I am 21 yr old female. end of may i had this flu like symptoms and i didnt go to doctor, instead i took tynelol and motrin randomly. Then i got better for approximately after 2 weeks i came back from work with 102 degree fever and this time i went to dr. and he prescribed me cough syrup and plus i took motrin and tynelol (not together). again after 1 or 2 weeks ( july 9th) i called out because i had diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, dizziness. On july 11th, i went to ER with dehydration and that time my symptoms were lightheadedness, dizziness, N/V. ER doctor diagnosed me with viral gastroenteritis. Also, i had blood work and urinalysis done and it was completely normal. Since I didnt felt better at all. I was on diet in which i cant eat anything spicy, too hot, caffeine, dairy products. After then i went to my regural doc.twice and he had me done blood test and urine test, Ct scan, stool test. and everything was normal. So, this time my doctor gave me flagyl and cipro. he said we can do endoscopy and colonoscopy but since i dont have insurance I cant even go to GI specialist or neither i can do anything about it. I am extremely worried and my college is starting soon and i am nursing student so they wont even allow me on clinicals. I feel so helpless. Someone who is in medical field plz help me out.I have no clue what should i do. Ok so my current symptoms are:- diarrhea/constipation sometimes i have abdominal pain and cramps, burning near epigastric area and stomach. rectal pain during defecation nausea all the time and rarely vomiting today and yesterday i woke up with my eyes swelling and i also think but i am not sure i see some white patches on my tongue ( its serious sideeffect of flagyl and cipro.) moreResolved Question: What are your thoughts on this?
Grand Isle, Louisiana Sitting on the Gulf of Mexico looking out into a vast coastline of small islands and thousands of acres of marshland gives you a great perspective as to just how difficult it will be to clean the incoming oil from plants, sand and animals of all types. The thick oil kills most everything it touches. In fact, we were instructed by Buggy Vegas’ employees at Bridge Side Marina to buy Dawn dish soap before leaving in our boat to tour the oil spill in case we touched the oil. “You have to get it off your skin immediately. It kills animals so just think what it will do to your skin,” one young captain told us. It’s clear that the marshes and fragile ecosystems are going to be destroyed when the oil hits them. But talking with local captains and fishing experts you begin to realize that the plants are not gone yet and we should be fighting to keep the oil from getting to shore. While there are plenty of new ideas, cutting-edge technology and thousands of interested volunteers, there is little access to the oil that is about to kill most everything in its path. While BP is responsible for the spill, the Obama dministration is responsible for denying access to those that want to help clean it up. Many American entrepreneurs and Midwest inventors are begging the Obama administration to allow them to get in the water and try out their ideas on how best to pick up crude oil from the salty ocean in and around Grand Isle, La. But the president and his administration says the oil spill is off limits to inventors and even the volunteers that want to help. And that means that some of the best ideas to pick up the oil, stop the oil or clean it up are not being used. The bureaucracy that has been created by BP and the federal government to hear ideas and inventions is like a reality show – with multiple rounds of tryouts and cuts and endless voting from secret judges. Most ideas are being tested in secret and under alternative conditions by the inventors themselves because access to the real oil spill is being denied. But local residents have listened to the out-of-towners and their big ideas more than the federal government has – and the locals want action. “If this was hitting the Florida beaches then Washington would be acting a lot faster,” said one frustrated resident. Dan Sinykin, from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, runs Monterey Mills and is one of the many inventors eager to help. Sinykin spent a considerable amount of his own money to travel to the Gulf with his team to showcase his industrial fabric that grabs the oil once it touches it. A Monterey Mills video showing its fabric went viral on the Internet, catching the attention of the U.S. Senator Russ Feingold (D-Wis.), singer/songwriter Sophie B. Hawkins and thousands of everyday Americans. To watch the video yourself, click here. In one day of touring, I spoke with six entrepreneurs from all over the country eager to prove that they could help. Every one of them had paid their own expenses to research and develop their product and personally invested in trips to multiple cities in and around the Gulf region to make their case. And none of them could actually get an official appointment with any decision maker. “I’ve had my application in with BP and the federal government for 60 days, I haven’t heard a thing,” said one frustrated inventor of a high tech oil skimmer. But what troubles the locals most is why people have to prove that they can help. Why not take assistance from wherever we can get it? And most importantly, why is the Obama administration deferring authority to BP? This oil spill is so massive that BP and the Obama administration should be asking -- moreover begging -- Americans for their ideas and time. Unfortunately, entrepreneurs and do-gooders are having to plead even for attention, much less to be able to help. We’ve been watching oil pour into the Gulf for 78 days now; isn’t it time President Obama got out of the way so American innovators can help solve the problem? moreResolved Question: which of the following statements about viruses is false?

If you have a good business model and website but want to get a partnership from a online giant to help you drive traffic on a revenue share basis is that possible? Whats the best way to get hold of the right people in organisations these days? In the real world (which is what I am used to) it seems so much easier to get someones attention for sales with physical products but I am fairly new to the online marketing arena and dont know the best way to get the growth I want without spending thousands on marketing. Sure, I understand viral teqniques, seo and other common methods but to get a real presence like the websites (facebook, google, youtube) that came about when not much else was available seem like they now own the web almost like they have saturated or standardised industries. moreResolved Question: Do you agree that SB1070 isn’t Just Racist It’s Unconstitutional and Counterproductive?
Do you think Arizona is getting more attention then they wanted by signing this ridiculous bill? The boycott is going viral, and now even violence towards hispanics has sparked on the streets of Phoenix. What do you think? http://qwstnevrythg.com/2010/04/arizonas-vicious-new-anti-im/ Arizona’s Vicious New Anti-Immigrant Law Isn’t Just Racist; It’s Unconstitutional and Counterproductive The conservative “states’ rights” mantra sweeping our country has led to one of the most egregious wrongs in recent U.S. history. New legislation in Arizona requires law enforcement officers to stop everyone whom they have “reasonable suspicion” to believe is an undocumented immigrant and arrest them if they fail to produce their papers. What constitutes “reasonable suspicion”? When asked what an undocumented person looks like, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, who signed SB 1070 into law last week, said, “I don’t know what an undocumented person looks like.” The bill does not prohibit police from relying on race or ethnicity in deciding who to stop. It is unlikely that officers will detain Irish or German immigrants to check their documents. This law unconstitutionally criminalizes “walking while brown” in Arizona. Former Arizona attorney general Grant Woods explained to Brewer that SB 1070 would vest too much discretion in the state police and lead to racial profiling and expensive legal fees for the state. By establishing a separate state crime for anyone who violates federal immigration law, the new Arizona law contravenes the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution, which grants the federal government exclusive power to regulate U.S. borders.**** The Arizona Association of Chiefs of Police also criticized the legislation, saying it will “negatively affect the ability of law enforcement agencies across the state to fulfill their many responsibilities in a timely manner;” the group believes the immigration issue is best addressed at the federal level. Ironically, expelling unauthorized immigrants from Arizona would be costly. The Perryman Group calculated that Arizona would lose $26.4 billion in economic activity, $11.7 billion in gross state product, and approximately 140,324 jobs if all undocumented people were removed from the state. “This bill does nothing to address human smuggling, the drug cartels, the arms smuggling,” according to Democratic Senator Rebecca Rios. SB 1070 is the latest, albeit one of the worst, racist attacks on undocumented immigrants. The federal program called 287(g) allows certain state and local law enforcement agencies to engage in federal immigration enforcement activities. “SB 1070 is tearing our state into two,” said Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, who called the bill “bitter, small-minded and full of hate.” moreResolved Question: Are our vaccines contaminated by Pig virus?
Independent Lab Using New Technology Found vaccine contamination by Pig Virus DNA in Rotarix. After the team double checked their findings, researchers notified GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) on February 9, 2010 and GSK notified the FDA on March 15, 2010, which prompted the FDA's action on March 22, 2010 to suspend use of Rotarix. The FDA says it "does not know how DNA from PCV1 came to be present in Rotarix" or whether "this means that intact virus is present. Additional studies are being conducted." In searching for ways to make seasonal influenza vaccines in a faster, easier and less expensive way than relying on chicken eggs for production, drug companies have experimented with using dog kidney cells and human fetal retinal cells. However, these cell lines have been documented to cause tumors in animals, especially dog kidney cells (MDCK). Rotarix is a genetically engineered vaccine that GSK created by isolating human rota-virus strain infecting a child in Cincinnati and using African Green monkey kidney cells to produce the original viral seed stock from which all Rotarix vaccine has been made. 7 In the FDA licensing process, Rotarix had to meet certain FDA standards, that included demonstrating the vaccine was not contaminated with, for example TSE (Transmittable Spongiform Encephalopathy or "mad cow" disease, a brain wasting disease) or with cow viruses because bovine (cow) serum was used to prepare the original viral seed stock. Porcine trypsin, an enzyme in the pancreatic juice of a pig, was also used to make the viral seed stock. RotaTeq is a genetically engineered vaccine containing five human-cow re-assortment strains of rota-virus that were created at the Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania (CHOP), where strains of rota-virus that give cows diarrhea were combined with strains of rota-virus that cause diarrhea in humans. The re-assortment viruses were transported to Merck, where master seeds were produced using African Green Monkey kidney cell cultures. Fetal bovine (cow) serum and porcine trypsin was used to make the "seed" stock. There are small amounts of bovine serum and cell culture media (monkey viral DNA) that remain in RotaTeq vaccine. At a November 19, 2009 meeting of the FDA Vaccines & Related Biological Products Advisory Committee, a vaccine manufacturer asked for permission to use insect (caterpillar) cells to make pandemic influenza shots. But insect cells can be contaminated with insect viruses that are hard to detect. The FDA Committee, on that day, voted “no.” http://www.nvic.org/NVIC-Vaccine-News/April-2010/Vaccine-Contamination-Pig-Virus-DNA-Found-in-Rota.aspxAnd what else is in those vaccines we don't know yet about? Please, concentrate on answering the question instead of childish rant you smart Alec. moreVoting Question: What is the cause of a rash over the site of a ~2-3 week old deep bruise? What can I do about it?
I got a bruise 2.5 weeks ago, typical healing cycle, and when it had almost disappeared, the exact area (and nowhere else) developed into an itchy poision ivy/oak like rash. I have seen dozens and dozens of similar reports on the internet with no real medical explanation about what causes it, which doesn't give me any confidence of how to treat it either and how long I can expect it to last. Hydrocortisone and the like treatment does not appear to work, but I have a hard time understanding how it could be fungal, bacterial or viral if the skin didn't break, and why ~2 weeks later? It is a little itchy, raised, warm, red, slightly bumpy, and you could draw a pencil line over the old bruise boundary to encompass this rash. If it is an allergic reaction, what am I allergic to? My own blood? The only product mentioned to possibly work is called ARNICA which I will try as soon as I can get to a health store tomorrow. This site shows the most answer's I've gotten, but fails to conclude with any medical expertise what it is. I have spoken with 2 different RN's on my health insurance's nurse hotline and they were puzzled at the description, but it seems to be a little bit common and freaky that no one knows what it is. Here's _Alot_ of backstory sorry. When I first moved to a college in my own city with many international student I contracted a really bad viral infection in my chest. I was bed ridden for weeks and missed alot of class. Due to my illness I slept most of the day and couldn't get much work done even if people brought it back for me. To combat this I started drinking lots and lots of coke, when that didn't quite work I started washing down NoDoz with cans of coke (yes, young, dumb freshman desperate to not fail, hindsight is 20/20). Anyway when the infection passed I was left with this lingering dry cough, that wasn't ALWAYS there, and certain things would aggravate it like smoke, aircon etc. I also maintained drinking alot of coke/caffeine related products. 5 Years later I still drink lots of coke, lots of high caffeine energy drinks and still have the cough. I have been to many different doctors who have diagnosed me with a myriad of different illness, prescribed medication, yet the cough is still here in 2010. I recently got the same viral infection, and while the antibiotics cleared that up in a week, the cough is back bigger, more painful and annoying than ever before. What's worse is that I now have Sinusitis as well, meaning I can't breathe through my nose (didn't mention that if I breathe through my mouth I have a massive coughing fit at the moment). So finally today I went back to my doctor and said this this this and this. and that Ive had it for 5 years and I want it gone! Or have it at least diagnosed correctly so that I can try and have it treated. After I left the doctor I went back to work and felt very lethargic (yet another symptom) so I grabbed an energy drink. Within 45 minutes I was feeling really bad and had to leave. As soon as I made it home I had to vomit from the constant coughing motion. Now Laying On my bed trying to pass out from exhaustion I came to the realization that I have been trying to avoid for years... is my love... my fuel.. the only way I can get through the day sometimes actually making me feel shit? I want to make another appointment with my doctor tomorrow and say.. Cancel those prescriptions you gave me yesterday... I'm sure this is the cause (2nd last time I went to him he said im probably allergic to something and gave me some mild anti histamines which probably didn't do much as there's a massive pile of coke & energy drink cans on my desk at home right now. But before I go to him and make a fool of myself. Can you be allergic to Caffeine, and could it possibly the cause of my symptoms? hi all~ there are 3 issues here; first the background - i'm the fiancee of a great guy and one of my best friends and her husband hired him in mid-2009 to work in their small biz shop. (My fiance also counted them as his friends; he has his own history with them. They've been friends with me 8 years, with some time off cause we were living in different states; a little less for him.) They spoke to us that my fiance could really be the guy for the long-term, they want to groom him, and well, my fiance was excited. The nature of what they sell is *very* specific and you might say a little controversial and I personally have literally not met anyone in my major metropolitan area who would a) have that specific knowledge or b) truly care as much as my fiance did about his work and my friends' business. My fiance created a product that went viral soon after it was placed for sale -- it received coverage in a major newspaper. My fiance's freaking smart. :-) well - first time they let my fiance go because their small biz was broke - they literally showed us the bank account statements - and they couldn't afford to pay him. Fine. A week or so later they apparently realized their mistake and hired him back. He had extreme loyalty to them, and they had hired him to replace TWO employees. Well, as weeks progressed and my friends the business owners still hadn't set systems in place for organization and work process, my fiance began to hear his boss tell him to work more quickly, multi-task more, take less time on quality. My fiance did the best he could and tried to be understanding. Long story short the male biz owner called my fiance on a Sunday night right after he had put in a half day of work on the weekend to say, sorry, too slow, things are still too backed up, we need someone in here who can do everything faster, you're out of a job. My fiance was BLINDSIDED. He was in *grief*. Actual literal grief. My heart ached for him, and I felt foolish for being so optimistic in the first place. My fiance, by all my observations ( i'm aware i have a bias ) was the very best and most *trustworthy* person they'll hope to find. I fully respect that a business owner can run his/her business as he sees fit. My thing is, I feel there was so much missing in terms of communication, smarts and basic respect from them while he was on the job... I saw sides of them I'd never seen before, and I was disappointed. issue A) - my own personal problems with my female friend the biz owner; I feel ignored and cast aside. One month before they fired him, my female friend had been very difficult to get responses from via phone or email, not responding to messages, if we would run into each other afterwards, I always heard the refrain of "sorry I've been busy". Usually I would have to place calls to her just to be social. One time when she and I were face to face at the shop I invited her to lunch, she said yeah, definitely, we'll do lunch next week. I said great... but no follow up from her, nothing. I understand busy-ness. I work full time and got lots going on and keep a busy schedule too. It was at this time my fiance got me my beautiful custom made engagement ring and we formally announced our engagement. Messages and calls poured in for best wishes and congrats -- again, I heard *nothing* from my female friend! She hadn't seen the ring and expressed no interest in seeing it. I was and continue to be ASTONISHED at this. ...But a week or so after her husband FIRED my fiance, she left a message to call her -- she wanted to know if we were coming to her Halloween party, apparently as her 'no hard feelings' gesture. I could only laugh. Here we were, newly engaged, planning a wedding, with one of us suddenly out of a job, money tight as hell, newly moved into a new apartment -- and she's concerned about if we will grace her goddamned party. Well suffice to say, she got nothing from us. My fiance had been curious if her husband would even call just as a follow-up, or to see if he found a couple cds of his - nothing from him. Meanwhile, I wanted to see what she would be motivated to do in November. No follow up calls, no emails did I receive from her either. issue B) - is my fiance's grief/disappointment and lack of respect for our friend the male business owner. Last time we discussed it, my fiance did not want anything to do with them, and him especially. However, the other day my fiance did say that he did not want to hold a grudge against them. NOW... our WEDDING is coming up- and we have- issue C) - is I want to respect my fiance and create the best day for him, as he is for me. He has not yet suggested we be in talks with them or invite them to the wedding. I *could* feel good about inviting them, but in my opinion my female friend would have to get right with me first and stop being such a deadbeat friend (it's always "call me!"). I feel like I've made too many overtures that were spurned, and that s(continued) that she just plain didn't care about what was going on in my life. Yet we heard through the grapevine that they were worried and upset that we weren't at their party. This sucks. We're in a limbo, no one wants to make a move first, and I'm seriously thinking of enlisting the assistance of a third party -- a mutual friend to all four of us. As it stands right now, I'm going to be sad if they wouldn't be there at the wedding, and sad if they would be there at the wedding without a full airing out of the situation and grievances. Ideas, plans, admonishments, praise, criticism? Let me know! Thanks. ** p.s. - he and I met, by and large, through this couple. :-( :-) ** moreResolved Question: Religious people! In terms of God I think it's very interesting that creationism, (a consequence of the evolving ego) has produced a mental mechanism that can often forgive us for what ever we do, and also creates a solution to what we can't explain. I.E. We are always forgiving our selves or create some justification for doing so. The real problems occur when people out of sheer badness continuously justify to them self the horrendous deeds they carry out at the expense of others for their own personal gain regardless of how many victims they create. Well, I had my Equium Toshiba Laptop since te 18th March 2008. Since then it's been back to PC World Twice, the first they couldn't find anything wrong, the second time they forgot to fix something. The problems it's faced are: Blue Screen of Death Faulty DVD/CD Drive Overheating and Turning Off Unable to read discs 3 Trojan Horses (still currently on disc) The fan was supposed to be replaced back in February 2009, but PC World failed to replace it or fix it, and since then it reheats and shuts down. Recently today, it had shut off over twenty times in the spaces of 5-15 minutes. I tried product recovery in case Trojan Horses were making it worse, as the Trojans have eaten away at my 80GB hard drive, and its no 73GB. However, my computer is failing to start up Product Recovery, and my anti-viral systems are shut off, and can't be turned back on. The problem of overheating has been resolved, however, I still need to restore my laptop completely and fully (wiping everything off) so the trojans are killed and any other faults are cured. What I do: 1) Put the disc in and shut it off. 2) Turn laptop on and hold F12 3) Menu comes up with HHD, FFD, CD/DVD, LAN and USB 4) I was told to click on HHD, the hard drive 5) It restarts the computer normally and doesn't do what it's supposed to Am I doing something wrong? All life, either animate or inanimate is viral, bacterial and parasitic. We are ultimately on a production line of cultural perpetuation produced by mechanics with just as much good manifesting from what ever badness occurs in life. Centuries of taking inhibitive strengthening substances like hallucinogenics, alcohol and other substances have strengthened our otherwise primitively instinctive aggressive responses to conflict. This better evolved inhibitive strength has given us more time to think before the heat of the battle. (The one who keeps his cool normally wins) The trouble is that we have no choice other than to strive through trouble which gives us sense of purpose and a good reason to exist, it also gives us a sense of place which is how our ego evolves. (The ego needing to know why and where it is, giving it’s self a purpose) In the past and still today we have had to justify everything to our selves, because what we didn't know and don't know has killed us. For the 7th time in less than 2 years, this HP printer has been delivering unto my computer viruses and causing a mayhem of disturbances, which have been diagnosed by my computer company in being an inferior HP driver problem. The HP company has ignored all communication from me on the phone, and emails were not answered, or very vague in the problem. Now it seems that this HP printer has an issue of causing viruses to be entered into your system; blocking out your viral protection and all Microsoft updates. NOT GOOD! And this information is coming from professionals who focus and are experienced in this. Their recommendations were to contact HP (which I've tried from day one to resolve this issue upon their product, and have been denied communication unless I pay into a protection program of $59). Good grief! I contacted Best Buy from day one to report this, and was told that they can't accept this return and that I needed to contact HP on this. Way to Go Best Buy! No help anywhere. Is there not a real-life concerning person out there that knows what the heck is going on here? I'm paying out repeatedly money to have my computer freed from viruses, as this printer's driver is inferior and is allowing all to enter. Take heed you all and be cautious! Even though some have HP and like it, and that is grand and swell and wonderful, but some like me are constantly having repairs and things happening. This "Service Hang Report" that is received, is all about the HP printer, causing a hang up in starting up and it can't be repaired. So what is next? This is what you will find. Latex Condoms, when used properly, are highly effective against pregnancy – although no contraceptive can guarantee 100% effectiveness. Any use of Latex Condoms, when used properly, may help reduce the risk of catching or spreading many Sexually Transmitted Diseases (“STDs”) such as syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia infections, genital herpes, and AIDS; however, they cannot eliminate the risk. For maximum benefits, it is important to follow the instructions for use printed on the inner side of the package. Failure to do so may result in the loss of the benefits of a condom. During intimate contact, lesions and various body fluids can transmit STDs. Therefore, a new condom should be applied each and every time before any such contact occurs. Another label actually says: See warnings and carefully follow instructions for use printed on inner side of carton. This product is intended to help prevent pregnancy. It does not protect against HIV infection (AIDS) and other Sexually Transmitted Diseases (“STDs”). Holes in Condoms... STDs are very tiny organisms, minuscule in size compared to sperm. These supersmall viruses can get through a hole in a condom much more easily than sperm can. For example, HIV (the AIDS-causing virus) is so small that two million of the disease-causing agents could crowd on the period at the end of a sentence. In 1993 the University of Texas analyzed the results of 11 different studies that had tracked the effectiveness of condoms to prevent transmission of the AIDS virus. The average condom failure rate in the 11 studies for preventing transmission of the AIDS virus was 31%. One reason condoms fail in preventing the transfer of AIDS is that latex condoms have tiny intrinsic holes called “voids.” Sperm is larger than the holes, but the AIDS virus is 50 times smaller than these tiny holes which makes it easy for the virus to pass through [Source: Dr. C. M. Roland, editor of Rubber Chemistry and Technology]. To give you an idea of how easy it would be for the virus to pass through these holes, just imagine a ping pong ball going through a basketball hoop. prolife.com Condom Warnings — Beware!!! Doctors speak out about condom failures! Many leading health experts have warned against depending on condoms for protection against AIDS and other STDs. Here’s a sampling of their comments: “You just can’t tell people it’s all right to do whatever you want as long as you wear a condom. It (AIDS) is just too dangerous a disease to say that.” Quote from: Dr. Harold Jaffee, chief of epidemiology, National Centers for Disease Control “Simply put, condoms fail. And condoms fail at a rate unacceptable for me as a physician to endorse them as a strategy to be promoted as meaningful AIDS protection.” Quote from: Dr. Robert Renfield, chief of retro-viral research, Walter Reed Army Institute “Relying on condoms for ‘protection’ can mean lifelong disease, suffering, and even death for you or for someone you love.” Quote from: Dr. Andre Lafrance, Canadian physician and researcher “Saying that the use of condoms is ‘safe sex’ is in fact playing Russian roulette. A lot of people will die in this dangerous game.” Quote from: Dr. Teresa Crenshaw, member of the U.S. Presidential AIDS Commission and past president of the American Association of Sex Educators prolife.comThe best protection is not to do it. I understand that we as a nation are having a huge problem with health care and the debate is really only started. But honestly when you look at it, the real problem is the cost these doctors, hospitals and drug companies are charging for their services and products. how can one justify a $600.00 bill for 3 blood tests? or a $12,000.00 bill for a small kidney removal with one night stay? or a $60.00 bill for 10 anti viral pills? This is out of control. I would understand if the people working the labs made $200.00/hour or if the hospital room was on the last floor of the Excelsior Hotel or if the pills were made from rare white rhino tusk. But that is not the case. We are getting ripped off everyday, your insurance will only pay a fraction of it and if you have no insurance you HAVE to pay the full bill. If people cannot afford the lowest most simple plan out there what makes Obama think they can afford his? and to top it all he wants to "force" us to take it or he will fine us? What is this? Super Bacteria I am a little bit concern about antibiotic resistant bacteria for me and my family. It could very well wipe out the human race if we ever create a super bug that can adapt to our medicines. But at the same time if we don’t treat the farm animals, what would become of them? Do we have other solutions as far as treating the animals? After reading the article I felt like if we don’t treat the animals, we have a higher chance of getting sick ourselves. But if we do treat the animals, eventually antibiotic resistant bacteria will get us. It feels like a lose lose situation. “While the drug may cure the E. coli bacteria in the poultry, another kind of bacteria—Campylobacter—may build up resistance to these drugs.”(Bren, Feb. 2001) There are a number of ways we can help slow down the process of antibiotic resistant bacteria. We have contributed to the growing crisis by not taking antibiotics properly and, in many cases, insisting that our doctors prescribe antibiotics for viral infections, such as the flu, ear infections, and the common cold, even though antibiotics work only against bacterial infections. We use antibacterial product daily such as soap, wipes, disinfectants, and other cleaners which does not help the cause. The combination of drug misuse and poor hygiene has brought the problem of antibiotic resistance to a crisis. “Why are our miracle drugs failing us? One reason -- well documented -- is that we have used them too often, to treat infections and conditions that more often than not could be defeated by the body's immune system without medical intervention.” (Laxminarayan & Plotkin, 2003)how about Generation X&Y Microorganisms? moreVoting Question: Computer Virus, please help.?

I'm a little lost about Purell hand sanitizer. It says that it "kills 99.99% of germs that make you sick" but then when I read the section about whether or not it kills viruses, it says this: "We appreciate your concern. The FDA does not allow anti-viral claims on these types of products therefore, we cannot make any claims as to PURELL's effectiveness against viruses, such as colds, flu, SARS, HIV or Hepatitis." So if they can't make any claims to it killing any of those things, then what DOES it kill? That's like everything I would use a hand sanitizer to kill anyway lol. And yes, I do understand that you can't really "kill" a virus because it's not alive in the first place. A virus can, however, be disabled or destroyed. Hello, A zillion points for best answer. Well, ok...as many as Yahoo will allow, then. I need to choose between releasing a paperback self-help book or the same on a CD Audio Book. I cannot do both at this time, and I do not need it to be reviewed in the papers, etc. Having said that, since I must self-publish which format shall I use? The arguments FOR audio book are as follows: *Professionalism: I am able to afford professionally-produced audio CD's in shrink wrap. *Free publicity via pirates: When people pirate the audiobook it is FREE viral publicity. I actually WANT that, at first. *Marketing knowledge: Self-help users by and large appreciate ease of an audiobook as it integrates easily into their perceived lifestyle. *Affordability: I can purchase 5 retail-ready audio books for every one print book. *Convenience: Nothing is easier for busy adults than popping in a CD. *Promotion:I can afford to give away more audio books than I could print books. *Return on Investment: We can keep the price point LOW while gaining a strong ROI. *Rapid Expansion: Faster to create new CD products than to write new books. *Utility of Product: Easier in narrative format to use the visualization exercises. Approx 4 days passed before I actually went to see an optometrist. She sent me to an eye specialist. He simply said it was a viral infection and sent me home with some drops which he assured me would clear the problem. T he drops which were FML drops have seemed to make it worse and the condition is now in both eyes. I have since been back to the eye specialists who thinks the condition has improved in the right eye but has progressed in the left eye. He said the condition in the left eye will get worse before it gets better. It feels like there is something "gritty" in the eye. Eyes constantly watering, vision has depreciated, constant cloudiness or blur in eye, very sensitive to light. May 1, 2009 In a press release yesterday, a cure for Swine Flu virus was announced, manufactured by a small, privately-held company in Arizona called GlycoMeds. The cure, marketed under the name "Cold Booster Plus" is a Glucosamine-based supplement, not a drug, and does not require a prescription, but is claimed to be more effective at treating Type A influenza than any of the other 4 licensed influenza drugs on the market: Amantadine ("Symmantrel"), Rimantadine ("Flumadine"), Oseltamivir ("Tamiflu"), and Zanamivir ("Relenza") See the press release here: http://www.emediawire.com/releases/2009/4/prweb2374054.htm In that this release was just yesterday, there may not have been sufficient time for the media to truly cover it such that we may be hearing more about it very quickly. The supplement "Cold Booster Plus" supposedly kills the Type A influenza virus in 12 hours or less, but does not directly treat the symptoms the way other traditional over-the-counter medications do (i.e. relieve your aching head, control your cough, etc.). But if it kills the virus, that's the main concern such that the body can automatically work on healing itself of the symptoms that originated from the viral infection. In light of how the media is all abuzz right now over the pontential "Swine Flu Pandemic", it would seem that a cure recently found would be getting major coverage. So is it just too soon right now? Or is this new treatment not the real "cure" that scientists are looking for? moreResolved Question: Did you hear that Swine flu has inspired a song....?
How creative is this?! i wonder if was done truly to make sense of the unknown...or merely for the marketing value...either ways, its interesting & nice to hear... Swine flu may be inspiring fear worldwide, but for Stephan Zielinski of San Francisco, California, it inspired a song. The virus has the classification H1N1 because it includes two key viral proteins, hemagglutinin (H) and neuraminidase (N). Zielinski took the genetic sequence of a variant of hemagglutinin and created a computer algorithm to turn it into music. Zielinski, 41, is not a biochemist or a professional musician -- he's a writer, photographer, computer programmer, and blogger who creates music in his spare time. But he's fascinated that, even though biologists can map the genome of the virus and predict what the hemagglutinin protein looks like, the human body still cannot distinguish it as the "bad guy" -- at least, not until there's a vaccine. "Although the map is there and you can even make a song out of it, we can't explain it to these itty bitty little cells in body," he said. Using computer programs he created himself, as well as a commercial product, Zielinski composed his song by assigning instruments and musical notes to various properties of the protein. Zielinski took the various categories of amino acids, the building blocks of the protein, and assigned each a different instrument -- piano, organ, low synthesizer, percussion. The melody was created by assigning notes to specific amino acids. Each beat of the song also corresponds to one of numerous amino acids. The work was done entirely with a computer and took about six hours Tuesday, he said. He first learned of the sequence through an immunologist friend at the Mayo Clinic, he said. Zielinski saw it as a form of highly organized information that a human did not design. "The only way I could look at that and make sense of it, since I'm not a biochemist, was, well, I could try translating it into another very organized form of information that people do, and then see if I could hear anything. And the answer, of course, turned out to be no." But even if the mystery of the virus did not reveal itself in musical form, the result is a curiously melodic, innovative, somewhat soothing work. Dr. Jay Steinberg, infectious disease specialist at Emory University Hospital Midtown in Atlanta, Georgia, called it "nice ambient music" that's reminiscent of Brian Eno. moreVoting Question: Another way to get rid of phlegm/infection?
For those of you who don't know, phlegm is nasty gunky stuff between your throat and your chest and it makes you sick a lot. It also is part of a viral infection that could give you a headache, stomachache and make you very ill. I've had this infection since last summer and it STILL hasn't gone away. It's taking ages and I don't know what else to cure it. I can't sing very well because my throat feels clogged up and if I try to sing high I splutter and cough and that does no good. I've been to the doctor's and got a breathe meter, nasal spray, medicine tablets and they haven't helped all that much. The tables helped a bit. I reckon it's got something to do with my catar(if that's how you spell it) because my head feels tense. Are there any other useful products that will really sooth this infection because it's getting worse than ever. :( moreResolved Question: can someone help with my rash ?

For the past year and a half, since I had viral bronchitis during a high-stress period, I have been dealing with these problems: - constipation, especially after eating bread/bread products or beer - sharp abdominal pains in times of high stress - headaches - mood swings - digestive pain after eating bread and beer Do these symptoms sound like celiacs do you? I am currently a college student at an out-of-state school and will not meet with my primary care physician for a month and my gastroenterologist for two and a half months. If this does sound like celiacs, should I ask my primary care doctor to do the tests or wait until I see the GI specialist? How long does the diagnosis process normally take? Thanks in advance! more
