Resolved Question: Graphic of a black bug intermittently crawls around TV, even when changing video inputs, WHY?

My children noticed it first, while watching 'Monsters, Inc' via Netflix streaming to the Wii. Then it was on the screen on the episode selection screen. I actually walked all the way up to the Sony KP-51WS510 before I realized it was an image crawling around on the screen. I thought it was some kind of viral marketing campaign Netflix was taking part of. Then we saw it while watching 'Monsters vs. Aliens' on Fios on demand. Now I have no idea what is going on. It is about a third of an inch on the screen. It is black, with about 6 legs and antenna. It bends its upper torso to lead in the direction it turns. Sometimes it just crawls around the edges. Sometimes it takes a tour across the screen. Sometimes it just focuses on a corner. It seems to show up in several grouped periods of 60 to 90 seconds, often making a dozen appearances during a movie. A little annoying at first, now much more of a curiosity, and truly an enigma. Does my rather dated television have virus? Is this a Sony easter egg, designed to be released after years of use? Did some fiendishly brilliant programmer somehow hack my tv? Before you ask; Yes I am sure it is not a real insect, it is a black image on the screen. It is also definitely not a live insect somehow caught behind the glass; this is what google keeps returning to me. Changing video inputs has no effect on it, it will be in the same place on the next input or tv channel. Pausing the video has no effect, the little guy keeps on going. Any clue? anyone? more

Voting Question: Any Computer Science / Marketing / Psychology majors looking for graduate project?

I have a website idea that is very much in the seed stage. The site will put a number on how funny people are by having members both judge and submit captions to a daily cartoon. A Computer Science Major would have a great time perfecting the calculated number that I call humorq, integrating social media sites, and displaying the world's humor data with their innovative use of technology. I need someone with PHP / MySQL skills for this part. My marketing graduate student needs to make this idea viral, go ahead (laugh), I'm convinced in the hands of the right marketing person more than a million people will want to know how funny they are compared to everyone else that thinks they're funny. Once that many people know their humorq, a humorq score becomes a standard on dating web sites and resumes. I just need the graduate student that can pull that off. My psychology major gets to study the data behind the scores... the member demographics, the science behind what makes one caption funny and the other not, even the science behind what makes a member with a low humorq continue to participate and attempt to raise their score. Please check out the website and it's early workings at http://www.humorq.com . Obviously I'm seeking graduate students (or anyone else really just trying to build a resume) due to lack of startup funds. I can help you, while you help me. The website earns no revenue today, but I will entertain eventual profit sharing proposals. more

Resolved Question: What any of you buy a hamburger bed A fair price would probably be close to $2000?

The Origin Story You know that ol' dinner party question: If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be? My answer is always—hamburgers. mm mm mmm I wouldn't say that I'm obsessed... though I did celebrate hamburger roadtrip '03 (I ate hamburgers in 8 central US states) and have a buffet club code name of Patty Melt... I have a general devotion to food and movies... especially sweets. For awhile now I have been making sweet treats and then I saw an amazing video Hamburger: The Motion Picture (must own soon!) and their dorm room beds WERE hamburgers. I had to make the transition into making treats things! and I couldn't shake the idea of a Hamburger Bed! I bought a round mattress from the 70's and made everything else myself... (with the exception of pickle chip pillows I received from a wonderful friend). It is 8' in diameter (I love saying my bed has a diameter) It stands about 3' tall. It is the most comfortable bed I have ever owned... ever Frequently Asked Questions Who made the hamburger bed? Kayla Kromer of Austin, Texas. Is the bed for sale? If so how much does it cost? If not, are there any plans and how much do you think it would cost? It's not something people really want... they say they do. If someone did, they would find me for real. A fair price would probably be close to $2000... It took some time and stuff to put it together. I would much rather help someone make a new dream. I didn't make it to sell anything, or be a "viral marketing strategy" as it's been accused of. It is fun for pure fun's sake—that's why people love it. What do I need to make my own hamburger bed? •1 circular bed and "box" frame (mine is way bigger than it looks and took some stealthy moves to get it in my house) •2 tones of light brown fabric •dark brown king fitted sheet •memory foam •king sized yellow and green sheets •30 pillows •a couple of zippers •pantyhose (for the sesame seeds) sew together LOVE! Isn't this technically a cheeseburger bed? “All cheeseburgers are also hamburgers; not all hamburgers are cheeseburgers.” —David Roland Strong http://hamburgerbed.com/ more

Resolved Question: What is a good way to promote my website?

I'm doing my senior project for school and I'm going to be making a web comic site similar to Natalie Dee and I'll be selling t-shirts and stuff with my designs on them. right now I'm trying to think how i can promote it. right now I'm thinking of paying some web sites to host my banners and link people to my site, but i have no idea how much that will cost. i also think i might do some viral marketing such as printing out a bunch of stickers and posters and having a street team place them places were people would see them such as public restrooms, bus stops, benches, and stuff like that. I'd have to come up with a pretty memorable name since most people may find it difficult to remember the URL. what do you think of joeygnome.com? I think it's pretty short and memorable. also how do you think sites like homestar runner and neopets got to be as well known as they are now? if you have any advice please tell me. more

Voting Question: sore throat...wth is wrong with me??? 10 PTSS?

About a month ago I developed a severe sore throat different from the sore throats I have had before. It felt like the worse sore throat someone could ever have. It was hard to swallow liquids/food. I went to a doctor 3 times in a 2 weeks period and I was put on an antibiotic although strep was negative. I felt better for a day or two after the antibiotic treatment was done but the sore throat came back more severely after two days. So I was given another antibiotic and I started feeling better again. It stopped last week for a good 4,5 days but from yesterday im having the very same sore throat. I was put on two different antibiotics, second one being one of the strongest antibiotics on market. The mono was negative. And yet I still am getting the sore throat again. What could this possibly be? I have no fever, no cold symptoms. Just a sore throat that doesn’t seem to be anything bacterial or viral and it goes and comes back again. I was thinking allergies but i’m not sure if allergy could cause such a severe sore throat that even swallowing would be difficult. I have 3 exams this week and this is really bothering me and making me worried. I also did a CBC blood count two weeks ago which was normal. Any ideas? more

I hired Effectur for $8,000 to an handle IRS debt. Once they were paid in full, all work stopped. I should have looked at www.RipOffReport before I hired them, as I now see that it contains an encyclopedia of fraudulent-line activity by the company and its sleaze-ball president, Kenneth Johnson, who reportedly got the idea for Effectur after he himself got caught defrauding the IRS by not paying federal withholding taxes (say "hello" to Ken at: http://assets.bizjournals.com/story_imag… ) I am seeking the full scope of potential legal, regulatory, media and viral marketing actions that can be taken to get a refund, protect myself with the IRS since Effectur has done no work for months, help others who have been ripped-off, and let the public know to stay away from these vermin who have taken the opportunity, in this bad economy, to make money off of other peoples' misery. Share your story here, if you have one, as well as the names of people you have dealt with there, as there is strength in numbers. Resolved Question: Ideas Please? Paperback book or Audio Book on CD? Which should I create?

Hello, A zillion points for best answer. Well, ok...as many as Yahoo will allow, then. I need to choose between releasing a paperback self-help book or the same on a CD Audio Book. I cannot do both at this time, and I do not need it to be reviewed in the papers, etc. Having said that, since I must self-publish which format shall I use? The arguments FOR audio book are as follows: *Professionalism: I am able to afford professionally-produced audio CD's in shrink wrap. *Free publicity via pirates: When people pirate the audiobook it is FREE viral publicity. I actually WANT that, at first. *Marketing knowledge: Self-help users by and large appreciate ease of an audiobook as it integrates easily into their perceived lifestyle. *Affordability: I can purchase 5 retail-ready audio books for every one print book. *Convenience: Nothing is easier for busy adults than popping in a CD. *Promotion:I can afford to give away more audio books than I could print books. *Return on Investment: We can keep the price point LOW while gaining a strong ROI. *Rapid Expansion: Faster to create new CD products than to write new books. *Utility of Product: Easier in narrative format to use the visualization exercises. MANY Thanks for your ideas and opinions! Shall I release it as "Paper" or "Plastic"??? more

Resolved Question: How can I spread the word about the abortifacient effects of the Pill? Some kind of viral marketing campaign?

I want to do some kind of DIY public-health campaign to let women know that hormonal contraceptives can (sometimes) cause very early term miscarriages by preventing a fertilized egg from implanting in the uterine lining. Usually the pill prevents conception, but sometimes it doesn't, and then it works by preventing implantation. It's not that this information is secret-- it's on WebMD and in the Physician's Desk Reference, and even on the insert that comes with the Pill, but so few women actually know about it...I really want to spread the word, even if only for the sake of informed consent. I figure this is something that goes beyond traditional pro-life/pro-choice; I think a lot of women who believe abortion should be legal would still choose a different method of contraception if they knew this fact... I have zero experience in marketing and/or activism, but I'm willing to learn. Any ideas, Hive Mind? more

Voting Question: Help Me Think Of Clever Ways To Advertise My Site?

My friend and I are making a new site. It's almost done. It's a news site, for positive news. (yes, I know it's been done before, but it's not like all other sites are unique). I'm trying to think of some clever ways to advertise it, and I'd love some input. It's called Not Negative News , perhaps there could be a play on that, or on NNN or something. I'm looking for slogans, places I could advertise (Real life and internet), banner ad ideas perhaps, clever ways to bring people in. I'm not looking for responses like "Google Adsense" - I'm looking for what to SAY in those sorts of ads that would get people to click. Or maybe some sort of viral marketing thing, or some sort of guerrilla thing...Thanks, but it's not a blog. more

Resolved Question: Making a Pixel Website with a difference?

Hi I'm thinking of setting up a pixel site thats different (quirky) for people to put their links on. I was perhaps going to make it theme based like (http://www.bigbenpixels.co.uk/) and in the shape of a car for car advertisers or the shape of a house for landlords and letting agencies. (this is just an idea)... or just make it similar to the million dollar page , I was also going to try to gain advertisers by saying a cash prize of say 50 to a 100 pounds will be won by one of them at the end of a year period.etc I just wondered if you think this is an ok idea or will people just give it a widebirth and think "hmmm we've seen this before etc" I was looking through these kinda site the other day and must admit I was nearly tempted to buy some pixels in hope of more exposure to my blogs and websites as they lack in traffic, the pixels were 5 to 10 dollars each witch I thought was a bit costly. Im trying to think of something new and quirky and other reasons for a site like this is getting linkbacks from people when they advertise and thus making it viral. just wondered from peoples experience in marketing and the internet if this is a kinda good idea and how to work on it and if it could bring me in any money, if not from the pixel site maybe even from click throughs to my other adsense / affiliate sites. I am just about to start a classified website and I will have a banner on there for my pixel site too, im thinking if I add banners on my pixel site to blogs and websites with content that has high paying keywords maybe I could get some revenue this way. Im sure you know lots more clever ideas as a marketer, I'm a web builder but new to adsense and affiliate marketing. I have just recently made sales through my affiliate blog for the first time which made me smile. the script I'm thinking of buying for this site is fairly cheap at 20 dollars and I can upload and maintain it myself thats no problem, its just the marketing that im not great at, I also have adsense accounts and was thinking of having a couple of large banners myself on their with links to my affiliate sites please could you give me any advice that you think may be helpful with this project or do you just think that it is not a great idea. I was even thinkin of calling it 50pads or adpix50p and charching 50p a pixel at the top and maybe have that running for a year then the webmasters re advertise so as to generate more revenue for me, then having pixels at the bottom where people can advertise for free but they link back to my site oh well, its an idea ive had for a while I look forward to hearing from you soon hopefully thanks alot for your time more

Resolved Question: How to get Herpes to go dormant?

I got genital Herpes from my husband about 19 years ago. Over the 19 years it's gotten worse and worse. The symptoms were so debilitating that I was bed-ridden for 2 days every time I had an outbreak. The virus has gotten around every anti-viral drug out there (currently three on the market I think - Zovirax, Valtrex and ...). I recently went on a gluten-free diet which helped to stop the outbreaks for about a month. Unfortunatly, they came back. The symptoms are much better - I'm not sick in bed for two days each time, but I'm having an outbreak a week right now. I'm wondering if anyone else out there has had a similar circumstance? Is there any way to help Herpes become dormant? I don't drink, smoke or do drugs (prescription or otherwise) and I eat healthy. L-lysine doesn't seem to help (although I only take it twice a day and not always on an empty stomach). I am also staying away from foods containing L-arginine. Any other ideas? Thanks for your help in advance everyone.  more

Resolved Question: What does this advert mean?

Every morning on ITV3 (about 6:15), I see this weird American news report from something called "LIFE". Does anyone have any ideas about what it is? This is driving me crazy. more

Voting Question: Viral Marketing advice?

In 2007 I founded a guidance organisation in my country. we done some work and got great exposure. by this i mean we were interviewed by radio stations and newspapers and were advertised on the front page of many newspapers. now we are launching a campaign to help the youth to build a successful future. included in this campaign we are selling guidepacks. in order for the campaign to be launched we will need to sell the initial 1000 guidepacks. so people/companies will have to sponsor the packs for the youth. sponsors will receive benefits one of them being their company logo in the guidepack telling the receiver that they sponsored it. how can we sell these packs to start the campaign using viral marketing tactics? everyday i read in our newspapers about crime and as my organisation did before, we will make a change. so please help with your idea or email me if you require more info at info@soulutionz.co.za. more

Resolved Question: make money using paypal - is this legal?

Has anyone seen these postings: How to Make Money using Paypal? EARN EXTRA MONEY IN PAYPAL AS SEEN ON OPRAH AND 20/20 I did some research and found that PayPal does not allow pyramid schemes or chain letters. However, they do allow merchants to sell products online and collect the money. The method is basically the same, only now you will be running an internet publishing clearing house and utilizing viral marketing. My question is, after review the business plan laid out in ths blog posting, is THIS Legal: http://money-wealth-investing.blogspot.comHow it works: 1) Buy each of the reports below. (This is the important step that makes this system 100% legal!) You will be automatically redirected to the reports upon payment. 2) Upload these reports to your web server. (A free host will work fine!) 3) Go into your paypal account, under merchant services, and follow the instructions to create a “buy it now” button. Make sure you choose not to encrypt the link and choose add other options. This will give you a “buy it now link” for e-mail. 4) Copy and edit this report. Nothing could have prepared her for the shock she got when she opened the bag and found that it was full of dollar bills -- $71,000 to be precise!! "My first thought was that he had robbed a bank", says the 41-year-old woman, "There was over $71,000 in that bag, that's more than my husband earns in a year".The woman immediately called her husband at the car-dealership where he worked to tell him what she had discovered. He came home right away and together they drove to the boys school and picked him up. Little did they suspect that where the bills were coming from was going to be a bigger surprise than actually finding them in the closet. As it turns out, the boy had been sending out, via E-mail, a type of "Report" to other E-mail addresses that he obtained off the Internet. Everyday after school for the past 2 months, he had been doing this on his computer in his bedroom."I just got an E-mail one day and I figured what the heck, I put my name on it like the instructions said and I started sending it out", says the 15-year-old. The E-mail letter he received had 5 names and addresses listed on it and contained instructions on how to send one $5 dollar bill to each person on the list. Then delete the name and address at the bottom of the list (Report # 5) and move the other 4 names and addresses down one step, finally adding your own name and address to the top of the list (Report # 1). The letter goes on to state that you would receive several thousand dollars in five-dollar bills within 2 weeks if you sent out the letter with your name and address at the top of the 5-address list. "I get junk E-mail all the time, and really did not think it was going to work", the boy continues.Within the first few days of sending out the E-mail, the Post Office Box that his parents had gotten him for his video-game magazine subscriptions began to fill up not with magazines, but envelopes containing $5 bills. "About a week later I rode my bike down to the post office and my Post Office Box had 1 magazine and about 300 envelopes stuffed in it." Over the next few weeks, the boy continued sending out the E-mail. "The five dollar bills just kept coming in and I just kept sorting them and stashing them in the closet, I barely had time for my homework". He had also been riding his bike to several of the banks in his area and exchanging the $5 bills for twenties, fifties and hundreds. "I didn't want the banks to get suspicious so I kept riding to different banks with like five thousand at a time in my backpack. I would usually tell the lady at the bank counter that my dad had sent me in to exchange the bills and he was outside waiting for me. One time t... Well, you get the idea. more

Resolved Question: Is it a good idea to do ad campaign online and media for a new website the same day it is launch?

It seems to me that promoting a website via campaign ad the same day the website is launch is a great idea. Much like ad campaign for a new restaurant, company, etc. Some is also suggesting viral marketing is beneficial for website business. I think viral marketing would work later in the business. more

Resolved Question: Chris Jericho = Not The Answer?

Chris Jericho is not the savior. No offense to the Ayatollah of Rock ‘n Rolla, but he is not the answer. At the risk of alienating the millions (thousands?) of Jerichoholics, there is not enough long-term money or rating drawing power left in Chris Jericho. The viral marketing campaign that has marked the eagerly anticipated return of the former unified world champion has kindled memories of other saviors (or at least huge build ups) that, quite simply, did not pay off. Do not get the idea I am equating Chris Jericho’s ability, positively or negatively, with these workers - just compare the build up to the pay off. I found this article at Wrestlezone.com What is your opinion on this?http://www.wrestlezone.com/article.php?articleid=197529037 Theres The Link to The ArticleAll of you shut the hell up i'm DIDNT SAY THAT ABOUT JERICH SCOTT HUDSON DID I"M ASKING YOUR OPINION YOU DUMB ASSES more

Any one out their got ideas for me. I cant seem to think of anything not related to what my mates done. Any help would be great. Remember I dont need to make the Idea, only need to potray it as a message on paper, drawings, flow charts. Thanks in Advance Regards JassiWhat other options do I have rather then a game? more

Resolved Question: Serious answers only: how do I find someone to give financial backing to my product - folk like it; I'm broke?

I've been very seriously ill and in consequence don't have much money, but I do have a product that's had a certain amount of market-testing and could grow into a significant brand. All that I need to do is bring it to people's attention; after that it usually sells itself, but I need the capacity to do a viral marketing campaign in the UK and USA. I don't believe that I need a huge amount of money; the product is ready to go and is starting to build a following. However I need it to take off faster than it's going now and much of that is down to a simple lack of cash. My local BusinessLink is useless in terms of loans, grants, or advice. I can't approach my bank because all they see at the moment is the poor cashflow from the time that I was so ill. Any ideas on where/how I can find someone with a relatively small amount of cash to back a promising idea? Many thanks in advance. more

Resolved Question: I'm a darkhorse, independent candidate for Attorney General. How do I create a viral marketing program?

As an independent candidate for attorney general in one of the 37 states in which the AG is elected, I'm up against majority-party candidates financed by wealthy corporations and their controlling shareholders. The election is November 7, and I have only 68 days to create one or more VIRAL marketing programs to have my candidacy and ideas communicated to the voting public. I don't have the financing to pay for newspaper, radio, television, cable, outdoor, direct-mail or other advertising. I need to have voters in my State, out of their major self interest in having me elected, communicate with others about my candidacy, and get these others to do the same. Please THINK OUT OF THE BOX. I (and you, as a voter or resident) need some creative thinking in how to overcome the odds of the stacked political deck. I plan to decentralize the awsome power of the Attorney General and appoint a little AG in each town and village, to enforce the rights of residents & small business at gov't expense. more
