Resolved Question: Is my major decrease in sugar level realistic and how much can I relax my diet ?

I used to eat a lot of fatty foods while I was traveling on business is last 12 months and also drank lots of soda. My routine blood test showed that my blood sugar was 132 mg/DL but I had consumed 3 tic tacs just before the test. My fasting sugar was 98 mg/DL one year ago and after all the unhealthy eating in last one year I had this high reading above. My doctor will be ordering a followup blood test within a week or two to check for sugar again since it was high. Now here is the question. I worked out for 30-40 minutes on treadmill every day for last 6 days and have been on a very strict diet with an exception of 2 cups of rice that I eat every day. My fasting blood sugar today morning is 97 mg/DL. I also have fever right now for last 2 days ...its a viral my whole family has right now. I do not know if fever and throat infection can lower glucose. So I am not sure what I should assume. But I will now on be very proactive and do exercise at least 5 days a week if not all. Is such a major change possible ? How can I still make sure if I truly have prediabetes or diabetes ? Would this diet work or should I continue of a strict diet. I find it very tough to continue on this strict diet. How much can I relax on a daily basis ? I am a vegetarian (eat eggs only) and do not consume alcohol. Here is what I ate in past: lots of fried food (I am a vegetarian, 2 regular COKEs during 4 days of the week, cooked food with 1 tablespoon of oil, rice (2-3 cups everyday while not traveling, thai-italian-indian-chinese food (while traveling, icecreams, sweets (as I have a sweet tooth), indian bread (with little ghee). Drank less that 1 liter water per day. Here is what I am eating for last 6 days: drinking 2 liters of water per day, no sodas or juices, 2-4 cups of fruits like watermelons/ strawberries/blackberries, some crackers (4-5 pieces), one cup tea with 2 teaspoon sugar, 2-3 cups of rice everyday, vegetable cooked in spices along with 1-2 teaspoon oils per serving, bread occasionally. One meal with fruits and other with rice. Can I relax my current diet a bit? I would like to stay on sugar level below 100 mg/DL for most of my life without any medications. I do not take any medications right now. Is the below diet reasonable to stay below 100 mg/DL for possible most of my life? Daily basis: Eat 2-4 cups of fruits, one cup of tea with 2 teaspoon sugar and some snacks like crackers, one meal (2 indian bread with no oil made of wheat flour, one cup vegetables cooked with 2 teaspoon oil per serving with indian spices, 1 cup lentil curry cooked in 1 teaspoon oil per serving), second meal (2-3 cups indian rice, 2 cups vegetables with spices and 2 teaspoon oil per serving ). I somehow cannot stand stand eating raw vegetables like salad, but some can add it once or twice a week if absolutely needed. I also eat egg based dishes (4 eggs per week) but these are lightly fried in 2-4 teaspoon canola oil. I am not sure how much of the below can I add to my current without risking my health much: (1) Fruit Juice (one cup per day or can I have more) (2) Wheat bread (one bread per day on break fast) (3) Add 1 teaspoon oil/ghee to two indian breads that I eat every day (4) Dessert (not fat free) once per week or two weeks (5) Can I eat 1-2 cups indian fried snack at home one a week or two weeks which is fried in Canola Oil? (6)Eat egg based dishes (2-3 eggs per week) but can be lightly fried in 2-4 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil. I will not consume Soda any more that I used to consume a lot in the past. Ok, I took my cat in for a wellness check and she did seem a little less active and had litterbox issue a couple times. Her temp was 104 so they did a blood test and said she had an abscess but they dont know where. They put her on Clinisol 2x daily. I take her back 4 days later temp still 104. Vet looks over that blood test and said it didnt seem to be an infection because her levels were pretty normal. HCT was in borderline normal/high range and phosphate low. I take her back yesterday temp is STILL 104 so they keep her for they monitoring her temp and it was going up and down but staying in the 102-104 range. They run a CBC and I get results today and viral was negative. I bring her in this afternoon and her temp is still 104 2nd reading was slightly less...103.8. They still dont know why but they put her on Predisone every other day. Here is thing though.....they tell me to keep her confined in a cage and give bath every other day so shes not too active and hopefully temp will go down. How do you keep a cat in a kennel for several days? Its not like a dog where you have more control over taking them on walks to do their business cats are used to going whenever they want in their litterboxes. Eating and drinking is also hard to do in a crate nto having full access to water wont help in hydration part. (she is not dehydrated yet even tho she supposedly had a 104 temp for over week) I plan on keeping her confined to a room or two. I recently got another kitten too before taking this cat to vet...the changes of new kitten prob not helping either. I am going to another vet this week to see what they say. OK - I have been a smoker since I was 12. I smoked until I was 19 and then quit for 2 years. Then, I started again at 21 and smoked for one year. I quit again 1 month ago, this time for good. I am a professional singer. My entire family is in the music business. I've been singing professionally since I was about five years old. Here is the problem: Friday, February 26th I started feeling like I was getting a cold. The next night, I went out to sing karaoke. My voice was in shambles, but I've sung through a cold before and tried, but my voice was SHOT. So after 3 songs and really hurting my throat, I was done. That night, I decided I was going to quit smoking again for good. I figured, the smoking is probably making my immune system weaker. Plus - I would never want to damage my voice. February 27th, my voice/throat were totally fine. Smoking has NEVER created a rasp or shortness of break or a cough for me. That's why I wanted to quit while I was ahead. Let me repeat - Smoking has NEVER caused a rasp, shortness of breath OR a cough for me. February 28th was the first day I did not smoke. I have not smoked since the night of February 27th. From February 28th until March 6th I had to stay out of work due to what I believe was either bronchitis or the flu. I had a fever the first few days of it and I had the WORST mucus, cough, wheezing, etc. The not smoking part wasn't so bad because I didn't feel well enough to move, let alone smoke. So I thought I did well by riding out the hard part. A week later once I had begun feeling better I tried to warm up vocally, but something was very different. Ever since the night after I quit smoking I have been dealing with increased mucus, a very noticeable rasp when singing different vowels certain ways AND in my upper register, my lower register is very breathy, I cannot do trills (runs, licks) with easy intricacies, my throat feels raw, it is difficult to switch between registers while singing ONE song, my throat and lungs are tired after 5-10 minutes of singing, singing in general is like a chore - it is physically difficult. WHAT IS THIS FROM? I have heard that when people quit smoking, the cilia (the hairs in the back of the nose and throat) are regrowing and trying to clear out the toxins and mucus from the lungs and body which can cause cold-like symptoms and stuff. How long is this supposed to last? It has already been OVER 4 weeks. Today is April 3rd. Secondly, do you think that maybe me being sick for over a week had something to do with this? I did not go to the doctor when I was sick because I figured even if it were bronchitis OR the flu, since they are viral, the doctor couldn't really give me antibiotics. They can only do that with bacterial infections. Therefore, I did the chicken soup an dover the counter medicines and bed rest for a week. I didn't go out at all and DID take care of myself. Third, could I maybe have allergies? Would allergies do this? I have never had seasonal allergies before, but I thought maybe it was that...? Also, I do have acid reflux. It comes and goes, but I've never had a problem singing because of it. I know that it isn't possible for one day my voice to be 100% fine and the next to have a problem OVERNIGHT from smoking. That is a gradual problem that gets worse over time. Resolved Question: Healthcare reform bill/mental health?

I am 22 years old. I guess to make a really complicated long story a little shorter, all hell broke loose in the last couple of years and a series of the most unfortunate events happened. Four of my relatives died, there were problems with family members being laid off in a family business, I had the misfortune of being in a major car accident. At the time I was going to college. Since then, I have lost alot of hope so to speak. At the time I was healthy and took my health insurance for granted. It expired, I really never had any major health issues, thought to save money and didnt immediately look into any plans. Of course one week later I got really sick, the sickest Ive ever been. It ended up resorting to the most incredibly hellish series of doctors visits. I saw five doctors. The only real diagnosis was in urgent care - "a viral infection", the antibiotics they gave me didnt help at all. This eventually led to ambulance trip to the emergency room where they did many tests, found nothing but a slightly abnormal blood cell count (which apparently wasnt anything to look into). Nothing life threatening. The doctor took account of my records, I was hospitalized for depression as a teen and have a anxiety issue. To get to the point - he diagnosed me with 'mental altered state', and since, the idea of seeing a doctor with whats on my medical records and with no insurance seems futile. (I paid the bills off with my money out of pocket). A year later I am experiencing even more dizziness, have developed swollen lymph nodes, sensation of shooting pains up the arm/shoulder area, jaw pain, am very tired, and still have a extremely aggravating worrisome pain in the gland/sinus area, sleep alot + some other symptoms. Its ruining my life. I want to go out, get an job, live life - but I havent been able to even take a walk for an hour without feeling dizzy or getting tired easily. I know that its because of my own idiocy that this happened and deserve it. But Ive gotten over the anger with myself, I am sorry I took my health for granted, and just want to figure out a real diagnosis. I want to know what Im dealing with and find a solution. I know that this reform bill doesnt allow insurance companies to discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions. hi all~ there are 3 issues here; first the background - i'm the fiancee of a great guy and one of my best friends and her husband hired him in mid-2009 to work in their small biz shop. (My fiance also counted them as his friends; he has his own history with them. They've been friends with me 8 years, with some time off cause we were living in different states; a little less for him.) They spoke to us that my fiance could really be the guy for the long-term, they want to groom him, and well, my fiance was excited. The nature of what they sell is *very* specific and you might say a little controversial and I personally have literally not met anyone in my major metropolitan area who would a) have that specific knowledge or b) truly care as much as my fiance did about his work and my friends' business. My fiance created a product that went viral soon after it was placed for sale -- it received coverage in a major newspaper. My fiance's freaking smart. :-) well - first time they let my fiance go because their small biz was broke - they literally showed us the bank account statements - and they couldn't afford to pay him. Fine. A week or so later they apparently realized their mistake and hired him back. He had extreme loyalty to them, and they had hired him to replace TWO employees. Well, as weeks progressed and my friends the business owners still hadn't set systems in place for organization and work process, my fiance began to hear his boss tell him to work more quickly, multi-task more, take less time on quality. My fiance did the best he could and tried to be understanding. Long story short the male biz owner called my fiance on a Sunday night right after he had put in a half day of work on the weekend to say, sorry, too slow, things are still too backed up, we need someone in here who can do everything faster, you're out of a job. My fiance was BLINDSIDED. He was in *grief*. Actual literal grief. My heart ached for him, and I felt foolish for being so optimistic in the first place. My fiance, by all my observations ( i'm aware i have a bias ) was the very best and most *trustworthy* person they'll hope to find. I fully respect that a business owner can run his/her business as he sees fit. My thing is, I feel there was so much missing in terms of communication, smarts and basic respect from them while he was on the job... I saw sides of them I'd never seen before, and I was disappointed. issue A) - my own personal problems with my female friend the biz owner; I feel ignored and cast aside. One month before they fired him, my female friend had been very difficult to get responses from via phone or email, not responding to messages, if we would run into each other afterwards, I always heard the refrain of "sorry I've been busy". Usually I would have to place calls to her just to be social. One time when she and I were face to face at the shop I invited her to lunch, she said yeah, definitely, we'll do lunch next week. I said great... but no follow up from her, nothing. I understand busy-ness. I work full time and got lots going on and keep a busy schedule too. It was at this time my fiance got me my beautiful custom made engagement ring and we formally announced our engagement. Messages and calls poured in for best wishes and congrats -- again, I heard *nothing* from my female friend! She hadn't seen the ring and expressed no interest in seeing it. I was and continue to be ASTONISHED at this. ...But a week or so after her husband FIRED my fiance, she left a message to call her -- she wanted to know if we were coming to her Halloween party, apparently as her 'no hard feelings' gesture. I could only laugh. Here we were, newly engaged, planning a wedding, with one of us suddenly out of a job, money tight as hell, newly moved into a new apartment -- and she's concerned about if we will grace her goddamned party. Well suffice to say, she got nothing from us. My fiance had been curious if her husband would even call just as a follow-up, or to see if he found a couple cds of his - nothing from him. Meanwhile, I wanted to see what she would be motivated to do in November. No follow up calls, no emails did I receive from her either. issue B) - is my fiance's grief/disappointment and lack of respect for our friend the male business owner. Last time we discussed it, my fiance did not want anything to do with them, and him especially. However, the other day my fiance did say that he did not want to hold a grudge against them. NOW... our WEDDING is coming up- and we have- issue C) - is I want to respect my fiance and create the best day for him, as he is for me. He has not yet suggested we be in talks with them or invite them to the wedding. I *could* feel good about inviting them, but in my opinion my female friend would have to get right with me first and stop being such a deadbeat friend (it's always "call me!"). Resolved Question: Very Strange Rat Behavior/sickness?

I have 3 boys. 2 are 8 months and the other is 7. They came from a breeder in the area and as of now I can not reach her (i think she left the business for health reasons). One of the 8 month old started wheezing and sounding like he has difficulties. Obviously i rushed him to the vet, vet did a (very expensive) mycoplasma test and its been a week an no word on it. Today he started doing this thing (going to tentatively call it a cough) and it sounds like a hiccup. He is perfectly fine though, clear eyes, no mucus, minimal porphyrin discharge, not lethargic at all, eating and drinking well (in fact he is over weight). The vet i went to seemed to not be too sure/knowledgeable because he listed everything that costs an arm and a leg and every type of test/disease and gave me metacam and benadryl which works for a bit after administration but it is short lived. I feel like a good vet would have given me the antibiotics straight away (since this type of problem is typically bacterial) but he says it sounds like something upper respiratory rather than lungs and that it could be viral, parasitic, or a tumor. My friend says her vet might be able to fit me in next Tuesday... but right now I'm tentative because I am a college student and so funds are limited and I'd like to know i am going to treat him rather than throw down $400 again for things that won't help. Trust me I love this boy more than anything. I will spend the money if it is for the antibiotics and vet visit (or if it is for a definite fix), but I don't like spending money on maybes especially when it comes down to me being able to pay rent and for my own health obviously! Does any one have any thoughts, experiences, or other things to try to make him more comfortable or what it could be? Since this "cough" started i separated him from cage mates. Also this sound only happens when he is exploring (trying to take in scents and being curious), stressing (ie getting meds or being taken out of cage), scratching, or cleaning himself. Over the last month I have been going thru a never ending nightmare with a very large jewelry chain on my engagement ring and wedding band. Voting Question: What's going on with my health?

A couple of months ago I sufffered from (what I'm guessing) was a bad respiratory, viral, and sinus infection. Like an idiot, I couldn't stand the weird sensation in my throat and started rubbing where it hurt. I don't know what happened, but all of a sudden my throat felt blocked and I had trouble breathing. I went to the GP, ER, an ENT...but none of them could diagnose me. I've guessed it could be anything from Gerd, to thyroid, to eustacian tube disorder, to a strained gland...but I'm getting tired of guessing. There was a problem in the family business + jobs and we are having trouble getting or even keeping health insurance and have to rely on savings. But I'm tired of paying out of pocket for no real answer. Whenever I excercise (more specifically run or jog) there's a sharp between my breasts ( a pain by the lower esophagael spinchter) sometimes leading into the stomach, and my throat swells up even more than usual and I cough up what feels like excessive mucous (I'm not sure, that's what the texture is like..but sometimes it tastes acidic and bitter). I have to stop and walk for a long time to prevent suffocating...but it's getting in the way of trying to live a healthier lifestyle. Does anyone have any advice for this? Or know what it is?I could choose to get pissed off at that answer, but I won't. I hope when you grow up you find God. Or when you are scared for your life, someone will have mercy on you. Uh, I'm a little nervous about asking this question. Here I go... I use the internet a lot. I have seen pictures of people who have been decapitated and ripped in half and not given a second thought. But, a while ago, I was browsing snopes.com. And, on one of their myths, they included a picture. All it was was a picture of a man in a chicken suit in a living room. I have no idea why, but it freaked me out! That night, I got no sleep because I kept thinking about the picture. I'm 13 years old and about six months ago started experiencing symptoms of hypothyroidism (my heart rate and body temperature went down, there's a large bump on my throat that causes me to have difficulty swallowing, and im waaaay more tired now, and after school will crash on the couch. also, i used to be a straight A+ student, but my grades have been dropping down to A's because i just have lost all my concentration to study) about 3 months ago, i heard about hypothyroidism and was like, omigosh, maybe this ISNT normal... recently, ive been getting nose bleeds like crazy and badly painful sinus infections, and my throat has been really sore. last night, i got into bed at 9 (when my really bad sore throat started)and studied until 10 15...i couldnt fall asleep and when i finally looked over at the alarm clock next, it was like 12 midnight! i ran and got my mom to see what she could do to help me. she just said to lay down and try to relax and she came into my room with me. next thing i knew it was 2 am and i had gotten no sleep whatsoever. finally i told her my throat hurt really badly. she thought it might have been acid reflux because i said it felt like something (most likely mucus) was in the back of my throat and it was creating a lot of pressure and it would make me want to swallow, but everytime i would, it felt like there was a knot in my throat, and i was having difficulty breathing. today, all day, my throat killed and my voice is becoming raspy. this isnt usually what happens when i have a cold, and besides, i havent sneezed or coughed all day... could there be something back there, maybe that thing you get when you have hypothyroidism, or maybe something that has to do with your tonsils (mine are still in)??? please help because i cant stay up all night anymore (but this all night business has happened before and my mom thinks i have sleep insomnia), and this isnt normal for me...!!! could it just be something viral or something more serious?? more

My son is almost 9 months in a few days for the past 5 days he's been running a fever. I took him into the dr. tuesday they said he probably just had a viral cold and gave me baby motrin and said to give it to him around the clock with baby tylenol. He has no other symptoms of a cold; no runny nose although it has been sounding stuffy but when I suction it, but nothing budges even with the little nose drops, no cough, no diahrea, no rash. With the motrin and tylenol his fever averages around 103-102. I've taken him to the ER twice they send me home. I took him back to his dr's today they were going to send me home again and I had to beg for them to do a urine test which came back fine they said. Anytime I try and cool him down his body gets goose bumps his lips turn blue but his body feels as hot as a curling iron. I don't know what I can do for him?? I've been giving him lots of liquids he's refusing solids just wants, pedialite popsicles and water.I've seen a few drs the past few days and they all act as if this is normal but I know he's not himself, all he does is cry until he's lifeless and only sleeps for about a half hour at a time even through the night. I'm trying so hard to calm myself down inside but I feel like I'm about to go into panic mode because he's acting so weird and burning hot all the time. Also his mouth smells horrible!! Seriously, what would you do? What could you do to make the truth known to the public so that people could no longer be fleeced by these a-holes? I just can't get over the lies this vet tells people all to make a buck and usually to scare people into spending more loads of unecessary money.. They just told a friend of mine that it was unsafe, toxic and "bad" to use Polysporin on a cat. I just called another vet today and they said it's fine. I can find no evidence to back up their assertion that it would harm a cat to use polysporin on a small hotspot type wound. The persons cat had a sore on her neck the vet gave her a spray that didn't work it actually made it worse. They used Polysporin on it instead and it got better.. when she told the vet about it they practically cut her down over it saying how bad it was and blah, blah blah.. this isn't the first time I've caught them in a lie. They told me my cat would have to be on meds for the rest of his life because he had a URI when he was a kitten.. it's viral you only medicate when they have a flare up, which my cat hasn't had!! I suffered from thryotoxicosis last year I was hyperthyroid &I never ever had an itching problem. About 7 months I stopped those ridiculous hyperthyroid medicines and all of a sudden I started itching like no one's business. I just got hit with a viral cold infection and the weather in NY just went from humid to freezing cold. And last night the only thing medicine I tookto fight my infection was 2 regular Tylenol cover coated capsules....and since last night I have been itching non stop like crazyyyyyyyy. Other than nettle tea which does not work for me and Benadryl Extra Stength cream which hasn't done much to curb the painful itching what else can I take/use? My clothes I wash with woolite so I know it is not the laundry detergents, I use hypoallergenci dish detegent for washing my dishes, and I refuse to take an antihisthamine internallyfor fear of aggravating another case of thyrotoxicosis again...plus not one doctor (including dermatologist) has not been able to find why I get these hives, cause stress is not one of them and the food allergy specialist gave me thumbs up on most foods so its not food.
