Resolved Question: Do you think that women are becoming increasingly portrayed as sexual objects?
I watched a good article on the BBC London News last night about how a Conservative MP is speaking out against the portrayal of women in advertising. Huge billboards and unrelenting advertisements are depicting women as little more than sex objects.
Worse in my opinion, is the way women are shown in music videos - basically, nothing but eye candy, constantly 'enticing' the male of the piece for sex.
Now, I am not a prude, I am actually a male in my 20s. If I were female, I would be frustrated that the media portrays me in such a fashion.
Does it bother you or not? Also, why is this occurring now - it seems to be a step backwards in society... what has led to this happening (more so than before)?

Many of us point our fingers to Israel and blame them for poverty in the world. We can yell and scream and cry over palestine, but what about Africa, Asia etc.?
You know WHY we aren't aware of our damage? Because it's too hard, we don't want to know. Because media rarely advertises it. Just because it isn't popular, it doesn't mean it isn't happening
There are so many things that we may be doing that cause the poor to get poorer in other countries:
☞ Farmers in Africa are given poisonous pesticides which can give them cancer amongst other diseases. This is done for the "fresh" fruit and veg we buy from certain supermarkets
☞Women and children are raped in sweatshops. Is it worth it? Certain companies like nike have sweatshops in the poorest countries. The workers have no other choice. Check the lable of your clothes. "Made in India...Pakistan..." --do you seriously think that these people are given fair working conditions?
☞ Jewellery sourced from places like africa are mined by CHILDREN sometimes. Do you know how many diseases those kids could get? Imagine the treatment theyre facing...
☞ Our waste are sent to third world countries. There, women and children are picking and seperating our waste into different categories. This is their daily life. No school, no play...they have to pick out OUR rubbish...
☞ Oil companies have oil spills, gas flaring and pollution. These aren't things to be ignored. It happens. People get diseases and die. They have to get water from places that are sooo far away.
http://www.protectthehuman.com/shell (A short video about shell's oil effects)
These are just a few of the things that WE cause and contribute to.
And you may want to ignore it.
WE've become numb because this happens everyday...
But we can change....lets become more aware of where our products are going.

What about the bloke insulating his house, "Hes just one man trying to make a difference" does That " One man trying to make a difference" inspire you to insulate your house.
The Child Maintenance Ad, what a cracker "I just want to do whats right for the kids" no thats not true, it just inspires vindictive mothers to make a CSA claim""
The cracker must be the Direct Gov ad "It must be Gov" How much must they have spent on getting all those celebs, or did they just do it out of kindnes and not charge a fee!!

Following your close study on Bliss, comment on and compare advertisement features within the magazine that you feel are successful
The publishers of Bliss magazine obviously have a clear idea of their target audience. Not only do the bright, girly colours and photographs of current and popular celebrities suggest that it is aimed at teenage girls but also the name 'bliss'- meaning extreme happiness, suggests femininity and youth. The magazine is most likely aimed at females in there early adolescent years and possibly even preteens; perhaps with ages varied between twelve and fifteen. They also know that it is important to appeal to the target audience and so have used a wide range of presentational features to ensure this is achievable; some of these include the colour scheme, lay-out, fonts and images. All of the devices used are not only suitable for the Bliss readers, but also for the purpose of the magazine which is to entertain, give advice, advertise and ultimately sell. The content usually includes pages based on celebrity gossip, news, fashion tips, interviews and “problem pages” all of which have been designed for the purpose and target audience. Obviously, their main priority is to sell and so they approach the potential buyer bribing them with a “free gift”. They also design the front cover making sure the expensive price tag is the least eyecatching part and is over-powered by other feautures. Some would say that magazines such as Bliss can be quite misleading because they lure the shopper into buying it and are only interested in the money that they will be receiving. Another way that the company attempts to increase their profits is by advertising. In the December issue of Bliss Magazine that we have previously studied, two similar advertisements are displayed, both of which are trying to appeal to the same target audience as Bliss Magazine itself which is why they have chosen to advertise in this particular area of the media.
The first advertisement is for Avril Lavigne’s perfume “Black star”. Already, the name suggests a lot about the product. For example; you would imagine it to be gothic and dark because those are the connotations of the colour black. Despite the gothic style, pink is used in the colour scheme to make sure that it can appeal to more than just one group of people and produce more sales. Pink is also a typical feminine colour and so is suitable for the target audience.
The name “black star” contradicts itself because stars are never usually described as black, therefore creating a sense of uniqueness and individuality which is something many teenagers aspire to be. The wording “be your own star”, tells the reader that buying the perfume can help you to become everything you want to be, therefore making it very persuasive. They also do this by styling Avril Lavigne to look like her perfume bottle. She models a short pink dress with finishing touches including a studded belt, fish net tights and a shinny, silver bangle and is posed to look powerful which breaks the weak and innocent stereotype of a typical girl. Similarly, the bottle is pink and shaped like the dress with a black, star shaped lid which reflects the belt that she is wearing. By mirroring the perfume bottle in her clothes and accessories, it suggests to the target audience that by wearing the perfume, they too can be like Avril Lavigne.
The second of the two advertisements is about Coleen Rooney’s perfume. It has been styled carefully to look sophisticated and elegant. By using shades of purple rather than pink, it is still able to attract girls but looks more mature and grown up. The advertisement displays a photograph of Coleen, showing her slim, attractive outline and is airbrushed to make her look “perfect”. The contrast of Coleen against outlines of dancers in the background gives the impression of her “standing out”. Like Avril Lavignes perfume, the bottle is very similarly designed to mirror Coleen’s dress. Both Coleen and the bottle are plain black and very graceful. The positioning of the perfume on the advertisement feature stands slightly behind the photograph of Coleen and is larger than her. By doing this, it familiarises the audience with the product so they know what to look for when buying it. Written on the bottle is “Coleen x” in a handwriting style font and a “kiss” symbol to add a personal touch and a sense of trust and sharing.
The products that are being advertised are both quite similar, however; although the target audiences a

i have to do an english oral. and i have chosen to talk about how the media exploits women. no, i am not a feminist, but i thought this was something interesting to talk about. here is what i have so far:
Today, I am going to discuss why I hate women being exploited by the media. No, this is not a 'feminist issue', it is a genuine problem that our society faces. We are bombarded with obscene images morning, noon and night. And what is the reason for this? Sex sells. It is the biggest human desire, and advertisers and the media know this, which is why it is thrown in our faces. The media sets the trends within a society, it sets the moral values within a society and most importantly it controls what a society will aspire to. The fact of the matter is, the exploitation of women in the media has become so commonplace, particularly in advertising, that most people fail to get outraged or even notice it anymore. Not only are women exploited in advertising and pornography, but even in music videos. Think about it, would you honestly sit there infront of the television, watching a music video if it weren't for some stick insect prancing about? No, you wouldn't. Advertisers use female sexuality to sell their products. It seems that men are obsessed with viewing the female body as an object of their desire, but it also seems that women are too naiive to do or say anything to prevent it, because, let's face it; they didn't ask you to unbutton your blouse to see a better view of your heart! This world is male dominated, and females are seen as nothing more than a thing to entertain you.

Ok well I love both of those. In my class everyone is telling me to do film and TV because I’m like awesome at it and I’m getting very good grades.
The problem that I have with film and TV is that it’s a very competitive course and it’s a very big challenge to achieve it in the industry. BUT as I said I’m very passionate about it, and I love it.
On the other hand there is marketing and advertising course that I like is well. Well I love the fact that one poster/add can change thousands of people’s minds. Also I know that in marketing I will have a future as it’s not as much as competitive as film and TV. BUT my problem with marketing and advertising is that it’s on the business side and there aren’t that much creative side (no producing) so I don’t like that...
So what do I do??
Do I go for film and TV and risk all but follow my heart
Or Do I go for marketing and Advertising that has no creativity but has a good future?
?
?

moreVoting Question: What do you think of the government these are my views im open to opinion?
Rather than give us knowledge, direction they exercise and exploit the small section of the brain that release negative emotion. We stress on dilemmas that are meaningless compared to what they are doing. They as in the government. The bank funds the government and for the government to recoup what they owe we the public are their answer. They create schemes to get us into debt and so, we are constantly paying out money i.e national insurance, council tax, income tax, Corporation tax, stamp duty, this also ultimately DISTRACTS us from whats really going on i.e mass murder disguised as a war also known as destroying a country to claim and rebuild it as their own.Other distractions include the media- music, fashion, movies, and reality programmes that indoctrinate our mind into thinking we have to be, act and dress a certain way to fit in. They advertise products on tv and make you "think" you need them by using your favourite celebrities as the front face, but at the same time make you "worry" about where you'll be getting the money from. The reason for this way of thinking is due to the media influence but also due to our poor education system which has prepared us for a normal 9- 5 job or if your an individual that chooses not to take the education system seriously you wont even get that. Thinking outside the box i.e self employment, creating new ideas for the world we live in is the way out of getting caught up in this freak show. Every ones busy trying to be "perfect" and all these things we worry about are the things the government don't give a damn about those politicians you vote for can't make change the worlds run by the rich set up for the rich to stay powerful and our duty is to follow orders. Life is what you make it at the end of the day and god didn't make us so we could follow the majority and fit in. He blessed us with talents so we could stand out.

moreResolved Question: calling all you techo savy computer geeks! laptop, destop, mac or windows.?
here is the dilemma, about to start my final year at uni in media production where we use pretty much all adobe's software.
My budget is around £1000 area, baring in mind i get %16 discount on macs. i like the idea of a mac, however im aware that i could get more for my money, but im unsure of what.
I either want a laptop which can handle adobe very well with the possibility of some gaming (counter-strike being the founder of this passion). but are laptops capable of such things? surly keyboard and mouse ftw.
or a top of the range desktop which is sufficient enough that i will not miss the portability of a laptop.
another area which interests me is the ability that mac have of duel booting, having os and windows on one machine would be great, that's of course if i even need it, maybe macs can handle gaming after all!
I realise this is an awkward dilemma, as i want it for video-editing and gaming but also portability would be great, does such machine out there exist? or am i going to have to sacrifice an element?
Also my path in which i wish to take is advertising! do they use specific computers???
would be very helpful if you could jot down ur views, experience and any advice you have. thx

I just graduated with bachelors degree in Advertising and now I want to go to Grad School and get a degree in New Media. The problem is that I have to write a statement of purpose detailing my professional goals. The truth is, the only reason I chose New Media is because I have heard that it is in high demand but I don't even know what I would do with it. Does anyone have any good suggestions that would sound great in an admissions essay?
moreVoting Question: Can anyone recommend the best free dating site other than Gumtree for a specific type of unusual request ?
I'm a 37 year old male in Grimsby, Lincolnshire. Two weeks ago I went to a swinging club, Chameleons in Darlaston ( search for it on Google if you want to know more), down in the Midlands just outside Birmingham, as a purely one off with a married female friend. I wasn't an active participant this first time, but found it fascinating ( believe me, if you've never been then go, just for the surreal experience of it all !). I don't want to go on the nights when they allow single males in and would like to hook up with a female to go along again on the Saturday couples-only nights, maybe every five or six weeks. With a view to this, I was intending to perhaps advertise online accordingly. I tried Gumtree, but have found it full to the brim of complete timewasters and can't seem to get beyond idiots wanting to have me call premium rate phone numbers or buy dodgy videos. Any thoughts ? Is there a good inexpensive medium for advertising in this way that basically screens out the timewasters before adverts are placed and replies sent, leaving me with a core of sensible people who are actually for real ? I'd be very grateful for your input.

moreResolved Question: When it comes to advertising or tv/radio programmes etc being controversial?
why do the minority have 'control'? What I mean is that every time I see an article about an advert (be it billboard or tv) or a tv programme or some other such media being banned due to complaints, the number of complaints is incredibly low relative to the amount of people that must have seen/heard the offending media. It seems that it only takes a handful of modern day Mary Whitehouses to cause a tremendous fuss. Why is this? Whatever happened to majority rules?

i want to do a questionnaire and ask their opinion on the "ideal body image", and ask if they strive to look like any celebs? do they buy any products celebs have advertised, if yes why?

moreResolved Question: My first and only 2012 question! Is SONY entertainment acting legally with the IHC website?
www.instituteforhumancontinuity.org/
^ I'm sure the cronies at Sony entertainment will have looked seriously into the legality of this issue, but is there any possibility that someone could sue Sony for false advertising or even inciting fear/mass panic/public disturbance?
There are a number of outrageous lies. Notably:
'The Institute for Human Continuity is dedicated to scientific progress and public preparedness. After more than two decades of rigorous research from the world's top astronomers, mathematicians, geologists, physicists, anthropologists, engineers, futurists...we know in 2012 a series of cataclysmic forces will wreak havoc on our planet.'
All this under the pretense of a .org website, when it is in fact a business. Is that legal to wrongly portray a business as an organization, even if it is only as a marketing tool?
Surely 'we know' - in the paragraph above - is false advertising?
---
Why should this matter? Because children can be easily influenced and duped. They aren't stupid, but when they see a site like this that looks authentic, and have grown up in the internet age, they might well take it as truth.
We hear of a child committing suicide in India over media lies about the Large Hadron Collider. The 2012 myth has generated a lot more press than the LHC, and I'm concerned that SONY might have some blood on their hands with this latest monstrosity before long.
Maybe you think this is over the top. Your thoughts are appreciated.Lets hope so, Michael. I honestly think there might be a number of suicides related to the 2012 myth though.
The website offends me with its mere existence. The film - not so much. But you can see how people might be lured into the trap with this website when it is not at all clear that it is related to the film or Sony, and presented in this official-looking way.Michael: heh heh, thank you. If there is any small chance that they're acting illegally, then I'd like to take some action, somehow.UPDATE:
I've just asking this question in the legal section:
