Voting Question: Offshore banking and Web hosting for UK company - Intelligent contributions only please?
I run a few businesses in the UK, however one of my companies sources and wholesales 'grey market' designerware and footwear from manufacterers mainly in China and Italy to clients across Europe. I run and advertise this business completley online, even though the distribution of grey market products is legal under EU law. I still receive legal threats from brand companies even though the products were manufactered under licence, under my agreements with my suppliers I can not disclose the origin of the goods to brand companies to prove authenticity. Any advice on making this a completely anonymous operation through using an offshore bank account and web hosting. I in no way plan on evading UK taxes however I do not wish to be harrassed by large companies even though I tell them to shove it anyway. Intelligent advice only please, comments are greatly apreciated. moreResolved Question: I need help with my business coursework on my marketing campaign?
i have created an arcade business in alexandra palace and im a small business at the moment. it says i have to do these things Discuss the main ways in which a business can promote and advertise its products and services. Also discuss how legal constraints can affect how it does this. Use examples to illustrate your discussion. Select the sales and advertising promotion methods which you feel are most appropriate for your business. Explain how you plan to use them and why they are the most appropriate for your business. You can also use the findings from your target market and competitor research to justify your choice of promotions. Draft a couple of examples of the promotional materials you will use. For example, design a poster, newspaper advert or a business card promoting your business. Research the possible costs of promoting your business. For example, how much will it cost to place an advert on the side of a local bus, produce 5000 flyers, 200 business cards, or a radio advert? You should include some proof that you have carried out this research eg a table of costs or promotional information from a leaflet printing business. You can use www.trade-print.com to find information on the cost of printing leaflets. Create a budget table showing the cost of each of the individual forms promotion that you have chosen to use and the total cost of your marketing campaign. Evaluate the possible effects that the cost of your marketing campaign and its success would have upon the finances of your business. moreResolved Question: What is your understanding of the (digital) media, communications and marketing industry?

Hi, can you help... Is there still a market for this type of business? I'm moving to a busy seaside town in Ireland so good location. Very passionate about doing this, but just lack information and guidance. Any help would be appreciated! How do I put together a business plan? Who do I approach/speak to? How much money will I need upfront? If I didn't have enough, where is the best place to purchase a loan? How do I find the best suppliers? If you opened your own business, how did you go about it? I know that I'd have to check out competitors products/prices, but how did you do this? How do I know that I am getting a good price by buying in bulk from suppliers, and how much do I sell each item for? Is there rules and regulations on costings? I dont want to overcharge or undersell. I want to start small - perhaps a small counter with a few table and chairs. Do you think this is feasible? I dont want to open a cafe as such and serve hot food. I'm looking at tea, coffee, scones, sandwiches etc. What are your thoughts on this? I know there is a big market for coffee and that it has to be good. Where do I look for decent products? Is it best to buy or rent a shop? If renting, how much should I expect to pay for small premises? How long is the lease usually for? 3 years? As well as liability insurance, water rates, electricity etc what else should I be expected to pay and at roughly what cost? From what I have read, it is advisable to buy/rent a cafe and make improvements to it, to save you having to buy all the equipment. However, if the shop didn't come with all of this, can you advise what I would need and at what cost? For example, would you advise buying a machine that combines tea and coffee or one for each separately? If any one of you have opened a small successful tea/coffee shop, how did you go about setting it up and how much did it cost you? I would ideally be looking to work in the shop with one other person, so I know I would have to pay out a wage. Where is the best place to advertise for staff? What paperwork do I need to have to take on staff? I am keen to open at 8am to catch the workers and ideally close around 2:30pm. What are your thoughts on this? Would you advise to close on Sunday's only? I also considered providing sandwiches to companies during lunch. These wouldn't be made inhouse though. I would be looking to buy these from a supplier. Can you give me an idea of how much you would buy a sandwich for and sell it for? I know that I would have to source a good accountant. Is there anyone else that I should be seeking professional advice from? Last but not least is profit. As I have never opened my own business before, what sort of profit should I be aiming to make? I am good with figures but if you can explain in detail, that would be helpful. I appreciate any help that you can offer. I have so many questions but it would be good to hear your comments on all of the above first. Best wishes, Paddy'sgirl! moreResolved Question: Does anyone in Britain who is not in a Dr agree with a ban on alcohol advertising, similar to smoking?
The British Medical Association has called for a complete ban on alcohol advertising and marketing, from television advertising to the sponsorship of music festivals and football by drinks brands, as part of a nine-point plan to tackle problems including binge drinking by young people. I think this would be taking the nanny state too far. Local government, the police and education authorities should deal with the problem of binge drinking and central Government should not get involved other than to raise the tax on all drinks. moreResolved Question: Can anyone relate to this?
Every week we hear of some fantastic pill or chocolate tasting shake that will hold the key to all our quick-fix plans to shed those extra pounds. I for one have been on a diet since I can remember. Every year, after Christmas, I sign up to yet another weight loss programme; be it ‘Weight Watchers’ or ‘Slimming World’, you name it I have tried them all. I end up spending a fortune to stand on a set of scales and be told that I have put on weight again; and as I stand there and I swear that I have stuck to the diet rigidly when the Weight Watchers Leader is asking me what went wrong (not letting on that I have had a wonderful weekend of food debauchery); or occasionally I have lost weight: which is normally because I haven’t eaten or drunk anything since breakfast and almost faint with hunger as I leave the room. Now every so often there is something that is brought on to the market that will solve all our fat problems! Something that means you can have your cake and eat it quite literally - I for one, in the past, have been drawn into its advertising spell and have spent a fortune on some magic potion that is going to solve all my problems. I sit there and read, with glee, how this wonder pill is going to help me shed up to 6lbs a week. Great! I think to myself; I will only need to buy two weeks supply to lose a stone! There I go again handing over £50 for 2 weeks’ supply of ‘kid myself pills’ and trust that for the next few days that these pills are the answer to all my prayers. Needless to say all I do is sit on the toilet for most of the day after I have eaten and feel quite sick and angry that I have been drawn into another ‘rip off’ yet again! Why do we do this to ourselves? There are far too many ‘too good to be true’ potions on the market and not one of them work. They draw you in with pictures of gorgeous women who claim to have taken them and have ended up looking like a supermodel at the end of it. It just isn’t going to happen. We would all love to look like Keira Knightley or Cheryl Cole however, they can afford to have someone cook them low fat meals every time they eat or are able to hire a personal trainer to keep them fit and healthy; the only way us normal folk can to do it is to eat less food and do more exercise. These ‘too good to be true’ potions will only eat in to your £s and at a push help you with a bit of water retention. Take it from someone who has tried them all: they just don’t work. I’ll keep on with the ‘Weight Watchers’ which, if I’m serious, is a bit of a social event for me which I enjoy: and it keeps me on the straight and narrow (which is what I’ll be in a few months time!!) If it says that it is ‘too good to be true’ it usually is.I am happy with myself and the story is not about me being on WW... It is about 'Too Good To Be True' potions`!! moreResolved Question: does this sound ok?............?

Help most appreciated!?
I keep getting desires to work in the following, but its seems to be lots of different careers in one... And I just wondered if anyone knew of a job role that might include all of the following things that I am interested in??? "I want to be the person that takes a product and visualizes its potential within a market, the person that plans a marketing strategy for that product, the person that builds a brand image, giving it personality, desirability and popularity. I want to be able to make a brand globally diverse, giving it freedom to attract target audiences from all over the world, from different cultures, industries, ages, sexes and classes. I then want to create a structured marketing plan for this product, working out the best possible way to reach that products message to all of its target audiences, each message unique to its neighbours. Then I want to be responsible for producing the messages that come from that product, especially the television advertising - advertising that will engage a consumers imagination, I want to work with graphic designers for print and I want to negotiate with sales reps for advertising space. I want to analyze the areas in which a specific market are attracted to, so the design a fully effective media plan for all advertising campaigns linked to the product." AUTOBIOGRAPHY: After accumulating three years experiences on sales representative, I tend to change my career to marketing. This is because that marketing practices not only a simple sale activity but including multiple operations with advertising campaigns, the routes of display and surveys etc. It will be more challenging and interesting. I am willing to face and learn it. Since my wife and I finished master degree dissertations in England last month, we came back to Taiwan for job hunting. My dissertation named “Consumer’s attitude toward greener cars – a study of green marketing application”. The reason of choicing this topic is that I believe green issue should be considered to each business activity, although it is a heavy pollution industry. I read many articles about this issue and found some limitations of executing green marketing. The solutions could be that: communicating with customers through media or cooperating with government and NGOs to educate customers or ally with business partners/rivals to increase customer’s green consciousness etc. My dissertation is being examined now. I am likely to get the certification of master degree in January 2009. My short plan is to learn marketing practices in foreign company in three years. Then, I will do my best to with the balance between work responsibility and family life. The long term goal is to be a capable person who can shoulder more responsibilities in the company which I serve in. In the same time, I will try to commit the societal responsibilities in this stage of life. Serving for a firm which has same value not only can increase stability of work but also decline the friction of execution inside the company. As a result, a global company likes Johnson is an ideal one which can enjoy the work and making progress. Thus, I am willing to face any challenge at work and create more growth to company with colleagues if I have an opportunity to serve to you. moreResolved Question: Would you fill in my questionaire?

Advice needed?
Hey everyone. I'm currently 16 and when i am older i want to run my own business. So recently i decided i might as well start now! Only a small thing though. Just to try and make some more money to put towards university or something i may need. I have Taken Media, ICT, Maths and Business studies. And i have the attitude needed to keep a business open. Although, because i am only young and still in school 4 days a week i was planning on starting small working on Ebay and Amazon. (All done with help of family members) Heres my idea. Due to the increase in size of people. Generally i mean. People need bigger clothes. And some people find it difficult to afford large clothes (XL+) As they are usually expensive. Which is where i see a gap in the market and would like to buy clothes (Males shirts XL up. Trousers 34" up) and then resale using online techniques. Like Ebay... So i need you, to give me links, names and just any company (Based in england) So that i can buy large clothes and sell. So someplace like a warehouse or holesaler. The whole idea of merchenting comes into to play here. This is simply to make a small business on Ebay (selling items) and my own website (As i can make the website myself and also advertise.) Which who knows. In the future my idea may become very successfull. You may find it hard to beleive i am 16 :) I currently have 1300pounds to work with. I been saving up. To summerise.... I need warehouses or holesalers who will sell clothes cheap, so i can resale them on the internet. So if you know of any then please. Do tell me. Any of the popular supliers who make clothe, if you just so happen to have the website for where i can buy large items of clothing for resale.. (E.g Denim jeans, Easy clothing. Ect Ect.) If anymore information is needed feel free to ask and i shall give you it in as much detail as i can. I'm mainly looking for advice. Where i can buy clothes. Where to start ect ect. Thanks for reading and no silly comments please. I am quite serious about my idea and i hope it will be a big success. As some of you may know I am starting an online e-commerce site selling a range of high quality paper cards and handmade cards. RRP £1.99 + 99 Pence Our site is currently being planned and will be put into development by December of this year. We will be using monstercommerce.com We aim to reach our target audience by using Google Adwords, Yahoo Search Marketing and msn Search Marketing. For you who are not familiar with this it means when you search for "Greeting Cards" on Google or other related terms on the right hand side ads are displayed. This is how we intend to reach our potential customers. In time with the use of newsletters and brand loyalty we hope we will not have to be so advertising intensive We aim to compete with moonpig.com, remind4 u somewhat and other large card companies We will differentiaite firstly because of our sites striking purple theme but also the handmade cards for some ranges Are there any flaws you can see or do you think we have agreat idea? moreResolved Question: Is the supposed release of PS3 this November a bluff?
The PS3 is supposed to be released in Europe November 16 2006. There is no publicity, no adverts, no nothing about games or anything advertised. I read that GTA4 on XBox 360 is released same day as PS3 being October 2007. All seems to point at the November 06 release being a marketing plan to slow the sales of 360. Does anyone know any facts? moreResolved Question: What is a Business Plan, What is its contents?
