Open Question: Im buying my first dslr camera... any suggestions?
I want a camera capable of taking archival quality photos as I'm looking at this as more of an investment in my career (marketing/advertising). I don't want to spend a ridiculous amount but I've done my research so I know what cost I'm looking at... just want some opinions on what's better and why.. moreOpen Question: Does Joe the Conservative enjoy the "safety" Liberals bring him?
Joe gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare his morning coffee. The water is clean and good because some tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards. With his first swallow of water, he takes his daily medication. His medications are safe to take because some stupid commie liberal fought to ensure their safety and that they work as advertised. All but $10 of his medications are paid for by his employer's medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance - now Joe gets it too. He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs. Joe's bacon is safe to eat because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry. In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is properly labeled with each ingredient and its amount in the total contents because some crybaby liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained. Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought for the laws to stop industries from polluting our air.He walks on the government-provided sidewalk to subway station for his government-subsidized ride to work. It saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees because some fancy-pants liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a conributor. Joe begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some lazy liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joe's employer pays these standards because Joe's employer doesn't want his employees to call the union. If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, he'll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some stupid liberal didn't think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune. It is noon time and Joe needs to make a bank deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe's deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some godless liberal wanted to protect Joe's money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the Great Depression. Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae-underwritten mortgage and his below-market federal student loan because some elitist liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his lifetime. Joe also forgets that his in addition to his federally subsidized student loans, he attended a state funded university. Joe is home from work. He plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive. His car is among the safest in the world because some America-hating liberal fought for car safety standards to go along with the tax-payer funded roads. He arrives at his boyhood home. His was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers' Home Administration because bankers didn't want to make rural loans. The house didn't have electricity until some big-government liberal stuck his nose where it didn't belong and demanded rural electrification. He is happy to see his father, who is now retired. His father lives on Social Security and a union pension because some wine-drinking, cheese-eating liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn't have to. Joe gets back in his car for the ride home, and turns on a radio talk show. The radio host keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. He doesn't mention that the beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day. Joe agrees: "We don't need those big-government liberals ruining our lives! After all, I'm a self-made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like. I have." moreOpen Question: Stupid untargeted marketing?
I'm a BT/Yahoo customer using Windows 7 and I am fed up with the pop-up that tells me to upgrade to IE8 which I already have. Very poor and a bloody nuisance as it will not go away. At first I though it might be a hacker attempt. I want Yahoo to stop this immediately unless some bright spark can give me a foolproof way of stopping it appearing. Community guidelines - don't make me laugh. Look at some of the Yahoo feedback on articles on the forums, where the advertising for IPods, dating, and other irrelevant stuff are beginning to exceed the comments. Very poor Yahoo. Are you making money from these blatant adverts? moreOpen Question: Is this a profitable company idea?
I would like to become very rich (10 million plus) someday. Currently, I have a few years of experience working at a management consulting firm, building websites, and Internet marketing. I have an idea for a company. I would start a company which buys small websites that are either under valued or need work. The company would then fix up the site by adding content, changing themes, marketing, etc. We would hold onto the site for a few months to build up value while at the same time, we would be making money from the site with the ads on the site. After a few months, the company would sell the site for profit. Do you think I could be super rich (10 million plus) with this company. Since I don't have to advertise the company itself (since we don't sell products or have a service), our startup costs would only be to build up our portfolio of websites. By the way, would our company be considered a private equity firm? What type of company is a company that buys and sells other companies, or in our case, websites? Do you think this company could be profitable? Should I do it? moreOpen Question: India to launch cow urine as soft drink - Times Online?
Does your Pepsi lack pep? Is your Coke not the real thing? India's Hindu nationalist movement apparently has the answer: a new soft drink made from cow urine. The bovine brew is in the final stages of development by the Cow Protection Department of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), India's biggest and oldest Hindu nationalist group, according to the man who makes it. Om Prakash, the head of the department, said the drink – called "gau jal", or "cow water" – in Sanskrit was undergoing laboratory tests and would be launched "very soon, maybe by the end of this year". "Don't worry, it won't smell like urine and will be tasty too," he told The Times from his headquarters in Hardwar, one of four holy cities on the River Ganges. "Its USP will be that it's going to be very healthy. It won't be like carbonated drinks and would be devoid of any toxins." The drink is the latest attempt by the RSS – which was founded in 1925 and now claims eight million members – to cleanse India of foreign influence and promote its ideology of Hindutva, or Hindu-ness. Hindus revere cows and slaughtering them is illegal in most of India. Cow dung is traditionally used as a fuel and disinfectant in villages, while cow urine and dung are often consumed in rituals to "purify" those on the bottom rungs of the Hindu caste system. In 2001, the RSS and its offshoots – which include the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party – began promoting cow urine as a cure for ailments ranging from liver disease to obesity and even cancer. The movement has often been accused of using more violent methods, such as killing 67 Christians in the eastern state of Orissa last year, and assaulting women in a pub in Mangalore last month. It also has a history of targeting foreign business in India, as in 1994, when it organised a nationwide boycott of multinational consumer goods, including Pepsi and Coca Cola. The cola brands are popular in India, now one of their biggest markets, but have struggled in recent years to shake off allegations, which they deny, that they contain dangerous levels of pesticide. Mr Prakash said his drink, by contrast, was made mainly of cow urine, mixed with a few medicinal and ayurvedic herbs. He said it would be "cheap", but declined to give further details about its price or ingredients until it was officially launched. He insisted, however, that it would be able to compete with the American cola brands, even with their enormous advertising budgets. "We're going to give them good competition as our drink is good for mankind," he said. "We may also think of exporting it." http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/food_and_drink/article5707554.ece moreOpen Question: Help me with Oligopoly Model Please!!!!!?

I recently started a teen event planning business, and I'm not sure how to get it started. The website that is hosting my site offers ad credits, and I don't have enough money to buy more advertising space. I specialize in planning teen events (ages 13-18), and specifically Sweet Sixteens. I'm not sure how to market to the age group I would like to (Facebook? Myspace? Too expensive...). I was planning on offering my first 3 clients free services, and the 10 after that 50% off. How do I get this running? Do you know anyone who would like this? Help please! moreOpen Question: Kcal 9 Commercial ooh California?

I'm not sure if Adsense allow this but that doesn't matter, I'm more interested in the strategy itself so it could be any PPC advertising network. Basically, I would like to know if it's possible to make a profit by using Pay Per Click to market a Cost Per Action offer. Personally I think it could be profitable because if you pay for example 50p per click and 3 people out of every 100 (3%) take action with the CPA offer, it would cost you about £16.50 per lead and some CPA offers pay as much as £25 and more per action. This example above would mean a £25.50p profit for a 3% conversion on 100 clicks at 50p each. (Basically, turning £50.00 into £75.50 ...I THINK??? ) Correct me if I'm wrong but this sounds too good to be true, is this right and is it really possible? 5k spent on 50p CPC with a 3% conversion for a £25 CPA offer could equal: PPC = £5000 ==> £7550 CPA (- £5000 PPC) = Profit of £2550 WoW! Finally, is a 3% conversion rate fair for an action such as buying a product? and am I right to assume the lesser action of just getting someones email address for about £1 each would usually have a conversion rate of about 25-30% ? moreOpen Question: I need a serious music promotion company.?

I was a t Tilly's shopping for clothes a while back and saw a bowl of them, and I thought that they were an interesting form of marketing. I'm 25 and graduating with a Bachelor of Communication in Performing Arts in July 2011. My current study is 80% business communication & humanities, and 20% stagework (voice performance, acting, directing, and production design). After learning the nature of the creative profession, though, I've decided that I'm better off pursuing a career in my 80% rather than the 20%. I live in Jakarta, Indonesia, and am fundraising to do postgraduate studies in International Development in Toronto, Canada by September 2011. By completing my future postgraduate studies, I aim to come back to my country and conduct major community development projects through education, small business, culture preservation and the arts. I need to do a 3-month internship between September 2010 and February 2011 in order to graduate. This work placement will also serve as my final research paper and defense presentation. However, since my major is performing arts, my internship counselor has told me that participating in community theater as an actor or whatever could also count. And in such internships, of course office hours is not expected (although I will have to submit a diary log of my attendance in the "office" or whatever venue this organization conducts its "business".) I am not allowed to negotiate for a salary or wage for the internship, but am allowed to accept transport or meal allowances if offered. Until recently, I'd been planning to intern at a media consultancy to learn brand development via PR and advertising, because I've observed that many consultancies these days have a department that specifically deals with entertainment and event management (meaning that the stuff I learnt from Performing Arts Communication could be exercised there). However, since my plan to come to Canada was advanced to next year (instead of, say, 2012 or 2013), I think my financial needs have changed. And since I won't have any daytime classes for the next two semesters, I'm thinking that I'm probably better off working full time and "interning" evenings and weekends doing community theatre. Since planning all this in such short notice has been overwhelming, I've decided to make a list of companies to apply to, possible positions to apply in the company, and whether this application would be for a full time job or an unpaid internship. However, since I am such a good writer, I tend to present myself too idealistically and have trouble differentiating which positions suit me as a full time job and which ones only suit me as an intern. I've attended many job interviews throughout college but never been hired; in most cases the employers have been impressed with my verbal skills and confidence, but less than impressed with my credentials and what they perceive to be my lack of ability to prove commitment in past jobs. (At age 18-21 I had a difficult career abroad as a direct marketer, had it interrupted by my decision to come home and study, and spent sophomore year trying to start a joint venture with a local businesswoman but failed. Then I took another career break in junior year and am resuming applications now.) So here's a rough list of possible companies and positions to apply to. Please help me sort them out: which ones could I qualify for a full time job, which ones could I only qualify for an internship, which ones are likely to make more money, and if possible please suggest other companies or positions that I haven't listed here. Thanks! - Media consultancies (PR, Advertising, and Marketing): Account executive, Junior copywriter, Assistant PR Officer, Assistant Event Manager, Creative Team for Advertising Campaign or Multimedia Production - International NGO's (UNICEF, UNESCO, World Bank etc): Some entry level job that gets me working in community development projects having to do with education and the arts. - Newspapers and magazines: Account executive, Columnist/Reporter, Creative Team - TV stations: Junior Journalist, Creative Team - Embassies: (Assistant) Event Manager/Coordinator, PA to the Cultural Director - International Schools: Teacher for Drama and Literature (they pay expatriate teachers VERY WELL plus benefits... the thing is, I'm local, but could be just as good as an expat) - Community Theatre: Actor, Singer, Dancer, Media Relations & Promotion (They won't be able to pay me, so obviously this option won't be my full time job) Anything else? If you have handy tips on planning self-fincance for studying abroad, that would be appreciated as well :-) moreOpen Question: Advertising Manager or Marketing Manager?

I want to give away my daughter's crib, for free by posting an ad on Craig's List. The possible dilemma is this-It is a Simplicity 3-in-1 crib, the kind that's been recalled dozens of times. It's in perfect condition and was assembled correctly. In the ad I would of course mention that it has been recalled and removed from the market-But is it wrong to give it away knowing that it could potentially cause a problem for the family who takes it? Hi. After being made redundant from an IT job at aged 32, I am looking to retrain into something else due to lack to opportunities for the skills I currently have, broken promises of career advancement and witnessing IT outsourcing happen/hearing about work being off-shored a lot. With that in mind, I thought I would retrain into something I would enjoy doing and have an interest in, as I kind of just fell into IT due to circumstances & expectations. I have always had an interest in science and technology, so I thought a career in science may be the way forward or possibly engineering. I realise this would involve the time and expense of returning to college for a year (as no A levels so I would need to do a Higher Education Foundation Course in the first year), then university. I was completing distance learning courses in IT with The Open University while employed, accruing some 120 points and a Cert of Higher Ed in ICT, but was told that is no use for getting into University due to the UCAS points system now in place, plus having no background in science other than at GCSE level. Renewable energy is hot right now, so I was thinking of aiming towards a career in that sector. Additionally it would have the 'feel good' factor of working towards something which benefits mankind (sounds a bit far fetched but better feeling than an IT worker!). After researching, engineering and science seems the 2 main groups in that field. After reading the plight of engineers at present (apparently a skills shortage but lots of engineers unable to get work + outsourcing/off-shoring, manufacturing being screwed in the UK), it doesn't seem a wise choice. Plus, science appeals more - learning new things & thinking 'wow, that is how that it does that...I could use that for x' gives me a buzz. So, it seems science could be the choice, in particular, Biotechnology looks interesting. However, being that I am in the northeast of England (where I would prefer to stay rather than uproot) is there much call for it in this region? Another option is a pharmacy degree, which seems to have good career prospects and possibly that feel-good factor but I would need very, very good results from the HEFC plus probably some work experience and a good helping of luck. Chemistry is also another option. Just looking for a little advice really as to employment market for science related jobs in renewables within the northeast area, as knowing not all vacancies are advertised it can be hard to judge. Plus the vacancies I have seen advertised within science are only at a very exerienced/senior level. I would hate to waste the savings I do have, and time, training towards something which, at the end, has left me in the same position I am in now. I have asked this question of government careers advisers and the response was to go to train if I could afford to and keep an eye on the job market. Thanks in advance moreVoting Question: Paying your estate agent.?
We have had our house on the market now, nearly 1 year. So as well as our EA we have decided to try and sell our property ourselves now, we are placing all these free ads on sites etc and set up a website for our house for sale. This is a hypothetical question, but here goes, If for the sake of argument we manage to sell our home ourselves, through ads we have placed ourselves or through our website, not through any form of advertising on the part of our EA, do we still have to pay our fees to them. They would not of sold our house, but we ourselves. They do have a SOLE AGENCY AGREEMENT with us, but just wondering. This made us think http://www.swarb.co.uk/lawb/cvrEASole.shtml Any advice, thanks. If for the sake of argument we wanted to cancel our agreement with them, end the contract, do we still have to pay some form of fee to them. moreResolved Question: Hi. I'm entering eighth grade. I have a lot of time until college, but I've been thinking about what I want to be when I grow up. I've been thinking: 1. An actress I know how hard it is to make it in acting, so if it doesn't work out I'm fine because there are other things I like to do. 2. A journalist/author/poet I love writing and grammar. I've been told I'm a great writer. I really enjoy writing poetry as well. 3. Something in advertising or marketing I have good ideas and I love taking on projects. 4. A politician Any other ideas? moreResolved Question: I am starting my own company doing computer repairs ..How do I market myself?

...or that perhaps allow you to request to do two (completly different) courses? I'm really interested in majoring in Film production (or film studies) and Physiotherapy. I know they are completely different but I was wondering if a university would perhaps allow you to do both... I know they have fixed combined courses such as "Marketing and Film Studies", but are you allowed to request doing two very different courses? I hope I'm not sounding stupid, but I really can't imagine doing one without the other... I feel as though Film isn't a safe option, but Physiotherapy is somewhat safe, and fixed. I've also been considering doing Advertising and Film Studies but not many universities offer it. If it matters, I have pretty good marks (A's, B's, and rarely C's) Thanks moreResolved Question: Why am I not getting interviews?
So, I've been applying to jobs for seven months now and I still haven't gotten an interview. First off, let me say that I'm not applying for jobs at Microsoft, Google, Yahoo, etc. I'm applying, for the most part, for standard office jobs. I've gotten desperate and started reaching for anything and have even applied to jobs that only require a GED...still, nothing. My internship is about to end and I just don't know what to do. I know the market is bad, I know my degree might not be that marketable, but like I said...I'm not looking for a six-figure salary job. I'm willing to start from the bottom. We have to pick our subjects soon and recently I decided that it would be a good idea to go into the advertising industry because I'm excelling in media studies, excelling in the marking side of business studies and I also am interested in physiology. I know that there is many parts to advertising, but I want to be the person that creates the ideas and directs the adverts. Not the person who does all the market research and ETC. So tell me what are good subjects to take to be able to get a degree in advertising!? moreVoting Question: A Career in Marketing/Advertising/PR?
I've been thinking a lot about careers and what I want to do when I get older, and one thing that I think I would really enjoy while still making a nice living, is something in Marketing/Advertising/PR. So for anybody who knows or works in this field: Is working in this field fun or exciting? How is the pay? How demanding is it? Is it difficult to find a job? What would you do on an average day or week for one of those positions? Would a good plan in college be double majoring in Marketing/Communications? Any other info would be appreciated as well, thanks! moreResolved Question: what is the relationship between marketing and advertising?
moreResolved Question: advertising in disguise: is most information found in news papers, magazine, etc....?
...nothing more than disguised advertiseIt seems that most news articles are driven towards influencing us rather than informing of us of something. This includes pretty much everything -- articles on politics, consumer products, financial markets, global warming, and so forth. If advertising (and hence money) is driving these articles, are these articles just nothing more than disguised advertising? moreResolved Question: New job opportunity, should I take it?
I randomly got offered a new job within my company today. It comes with, most likely a very large raise, and a big step up in the company and probably any job I take in the future (this position will look great on a resume). I'm kind of torn about taking it. I work in a technical field, and I want to stay technical. The new position is somewhat technical but mixes the technical aspect with a marketing perspective. Essentially advertising a technical product to internal groups in the company. It would be a very big step up from the position I am currently in. I nervous, because I'm not sure if I'm qualified, though several people recommended me for the position. Also, I have become close friends with many of the people I work with everyday and I would hate to lose that. I'm trying to use the offer to leverage a promotion in my current position that I am overdue for, but I would still be in a customer facing technical support role which doesn't offer much growth. I'm nervous about this, I'm scared that I might not be able to fulfill the role and could lose my job if I don't perform up to their standards. At the same time, I am in the top of my group in my current position and am essentially guaranteed a promotion, though it will be to a higher level in the same group. The new position will look very good on a resume, but more so for a corporate employer and I am less and less attracted to the corporate environment that I have been acquired into. What would you do? Go for the new position and get deeper into the corporate world and potentially risk what is already a pretty good job or stay with the same job and get the promotion. If it makes a difference, my pay would probably increase by around $20,000 if I took the new job, and only about $5,000 if I go for the promotion in my current department. What would you do? moreResolved Question: Is it racist to protect your Labour and Housing markets from foreigners?
When you enter the Maldvies or Fiji your passport will be stamped NOT ELIGIBLE FOR EMPLOYMENT, and they will advertise jobs only for domestic people in order to avoid unemployment among their own. Also if you want to buy a house in many countries you will need domestic benefactors to avoid the property being bought by wealthy foreigners and house prices becoming too expensive for the domestic people. In Europe this is considered racism. It is literally suffocating Europe. Is it admirable to protect your population or is it a crime? moreResolved Question: Why do you think most mothers choose formula over breast milk?
I was doing some research into breastfeeding and stumbled upon this: "In 1994, after years of stalling by Republican administrations that opposed it, the United States joined every other developed nation in the world as a signatory to the "WHO Code," an international agreement that, among other things, calls for an end to formula promotion and giveaways through the health-care system and includes a clause stating that "no financial or material inducements should be offered by [infant formula] manufacturers or distributors to health workers, or members of their families, nor should these be accepted." Despite the WHO Code, virtually all hospitals in the United States offering maternity services -- as well as the majority of individual obstetricians and pediatricians -- continue to provide massive free advertising from the huge pharmaceutical companies that produce and market formula in the United States. Such promotional material comes in the form of formula giveaways, patient "educational literature" produced by the formula companies and even free baby equipment such as diaper bags." The article went on to say: "American hospitals have largely shrugged off the idea that accepting free formula and large cash "donations" in return for a particular formula company's right to market directly to its patients represents an ethical problem. Around the world, thousands of hospitals have become certified by the World Health Organization as "Baby-Friendly" by agreeing to aggressively and accurately promote breast-feeding and to end the practice of allowing infant-formula companies to offer freebies to personnel or patients. In the United States, however, fewer than 20 hospitals and birthing centers have received the Baby-Friendly designation." Do you feel that the reason so many women opt to formula feed is because the formula companies have most hospitals and doctors in their pocket? http://www.salon.com/life/feature/1999/07/20/formula2 The article is a little old, but I just want some opinions on it.Another question: Did the hospital you delivered at offer to give you formula to go home with? What brand of formula did they offer?Rae's Momma: Don't be so defensive. I didn't say anything derogatory about formula feeding mommies. I have gone down the same route as many people who want to invest money and bought land in Bulgaria. The plot was un-regulated when I bought it. It now has planning to build 5 up market villas on it. Thing is I have now droppd the price of the plot 3 times and over 3 years there has been no interest. Those of you who majored in English did it take you long to find a job? I still have time to think about this since i don't graduate high school until 2012, but with the economy and the scarcity of jobs, i wanted to do some research. Thanks for helping me :) more
