Resolved Question: TV License in the UK NON BBC programs.?

This is what the BBC site says...... The BBC is not permitted to carry advertising or sponsorship on its public services. This keeps them independent of commercial interests and ensures that they can be run instead to serve the general public interest. If the BBC sold airtime either wholly or partially, advertisers and other commercial pressures would dictate its programme and schedule priorities. There would also be far less revenue for other broadcasters. The BBC is financed instead by a TV licence fee paid by households. This guarantees that a wide range of high-quality programmes can be made available, unrestricted, to everyone. The licence fee also helps support production skills, training, local or minority programmes and other services which might not otherwise be financed by the economics of pay-TV or advertising. The BBC runs additional commercial services around the world. These are not financed by the licence fee but are kept quite separate from the BBC's public services. Profits are used to help keep the licence fee low so that UK licence fee payers can benefit commercially from their investment in programmes. I dont have a freeview box or aerial connected to my tv. I dont record live tv, I dont use the internet to watch tv, i dont have tv on my phone, I dont have a radio. I dont have a tv license because I was told by the tv licence officers I do not need one, but If i tuned out all the BBC programs from a freeview box could I then watch live tv without a license? more

Resolved Question: Does anyone else think that Radio and Internet Advertising doesn't really work? TV is the best outlet?

With radio they really cant tell how many are listing its all just based on unrealistic surveys stating silly figures to boost the Station rate cards I think. The Nielsen rating system is not 100% fact ! ?, a guessing game in truth? more

Resolved Question: Do you agree with being forced to fund the BBC?

Independent economic research analysis and investigations by consumer protection organisations such as the National Consumers Council have consistently concluded, for many years, that the UK TV licence is a levy which is regressive in its financial impact on the poor. This gross iniquity is perpetuated in essence by the UK Government upon its most vulnerable citizens. This situation is even more outrageous in an age when the poor may receive only 5 terrestrial TV channels, for which the TV licence contributes to the cost of only BBC output, yet the more wealthy within the UK tend to enjoy dozens, or even hundreds of digital or satellite TV channels at comparatively little extra cost to them per channel. This petition accordingly urges the Government to abolish the UK TV licence and allow the BBC to make use of all lawful, reasonable, modern means of capital and revenue generation including share issues, property equity stakes and loans and advertising on BBC TV, radio and internet broadcasts. Do you agree with being forced to subsidise a selfish liberal/left minorities favourite TV station. Shouldn't you have the right to watch genuine Free To View stations without being forced to subsidise what a minority watches ? http://www.tvlicenceresistance.info/petition/ more

Resolved Question: Car Finance Help Wanted?

Hello all, I am just wonering if I could pick your brains for a minute!!. I am on the look out for a company who can offer me car finance. My circumstances are not great, as I do have some bad credit from before, to which is still on my credit file, but I do know there are companies out there that can help because of this. But to add to this, I was working full time up until last month, and have now turned self employed after I started my own internet radio station, to which is doing well, and a regular income is coming in each month for advertising and such like. Does anyone know of any car finance companies out there, who take on people with bad credit, and who have been self employed for short time. I am not after a top of the range car, just something between £1500-£3000 Thanks for looking more

Resolved Question: How should we reform the BBC?

I think the BBC has it's place, it has great impartial news and has made some of the best documenteries in the world over the years: E.g: The Blue Planet, Walking With Dinaours and the Human Series. But the TV licence is outdated and too expensive. How should the BBC be cut down to size? Why should we have to pay for the BBC World Service? We're not an Empire anymore? Do we need all these radio stations/ TV channels and internet site. Where could they save money or where would advertising be acceptable? N.B. To people outside the UK: The BBC is paid for by each and every UK citizen in the form of a TV licence (about 100pounds or 180 USD) which has to be paid annually. more
