moreVoting Question: Offshore banking and Web hosting for UK company - Intelligent contributions only please?
I run a few businesses in the UK, however one of my companies sources and wholesales 'grey market' designerware and footwear from manufacterers mainly in China and Italy to clients across Europe. I run and advertise this business completley online, even though the distribution of grey market products is legal under EU law. I still receive legal threats from brand companies even though the products were manufactered under licence, under my agreements with my suppliers I can not disclose the origin of the goods to brand companies to prove authenticity.
Any advice on making this a completely anonymous operation through using an offshore bank account and web hosting. I in no way plan on evading UK taxes however I do not wish to be harrassed by large companies even though I tell them to shove it anyway.
Intelligent advice only please, comments are greatly apreciated.
moreResolved Question: Looking for the Best UK web hosting?
Hi everyone.
I'm looking for a good web hosting service preferably that is paid monthly and is at a very good price, Im trying to have a website for my small business which is service based so it doesn't need to be for eccommerce purposes more a case of a small site to advertise my services, no bigger than 10 pages in size.
I keep coming to places to fasthost, 1&1, and justhost etc. but although they offer a lot of "special offers" they all seem to be misleading in that you either have to sign up to them for 24mths, but pay in full (although it usually states "just £4.99 per month") I realise that it may average out at that price per month but I cannot afford a large lump sum for hosting.
So I'm either after a good host at a cheap monthly rate, or a good host which is an annual rate but doesnt need me to pay for 3yrs in advance.
Any help will be appreciated.
Many thanks

moreResolved Question: Is this a good discription I've written?
I've designing a postcard to advertise my new web design agency. On the postcard I have space for a short 100 word description and I would like your opinion on the one I've written if that's okay.
Here it is:
Our Agency is the perfect choice for your web design needs. Whether it's a small personal photo gallery or a large fully featured ecommerce store you can be sure we will approach all aspects of your brief with an aim to exceeds your expectations. We're here to make sure the websites of Surrey are the best there is.
It's a little known fact that a well designed website goes a long way towards establishing a market authority status with your customers. We will help you to make this happen with a beautifully designed website that's sure to grab your customers attention.
Thanks for reading it. If you could give me your feedback that would be great. Also, if you think you could improve it or even do a better job, please could you write your version in your answer. Thank you.Thank you for answering so quickly ladies! In the final description I have the company name instead of 'our agency' at the begriming. I omitted it from my question because I didn't want to be seen as advertising on Y!A.
I've added an apostrophe to the 'customer's' like one of you said. Grammar and punctuation are my biggest faults, I never get anything 100% right. Thanks so much for the feedback, I really do appreciate it

moreResolved Question: Who is IR35 intended for?
Hi,
I am new to the UK and am trying to understand the IR35 laws. I am a telecommunications engineer and I was offered a 6 month contract/ job by a company to provide technical consultancy services to another company (client) . I am normally working either from home or from a hot desk in the clients building. I get paid for each day of consulting I provide. I normally use my own computer but have been provide a computer to log into the clients IT information system.
After advice from colleagues I have set up a limited company with I intend to operate as director. I am also seeking out other consulting opportunities with other clients at the same time and am planning on setting up a web site to advertise my consultancy business.
Can someone ( who knows) please advise whether the IR35 laws are relevant to my Case or not? and if so how they apply?
I am not considered an employee of the client by the client as they do not include me in for example meetings etc that relate to permanent employees.
I have sought advice from several so called accountants but have not been 100% satisfied with their response as I cant seem to get a black or white 100% clear answer as to what I legally need to do.
Can someone please shed some light on this?

With this package, if i top-up £10, i'll apparently get:
300 free texts worth
£30
Free Facebook access worth
£9*
2 for 1 cinema tickets every Wednesday worth
£8**
giving you a total value of £57
What do they mean by "giving you a total value of £57", i thought the top-up was £10 only? Surely if i was to attempt to go over my "£10 allowance", i'd be blocked to do so, so that i don't have to pay extra for web/text/calls usage outside my allowance, right?
Another thing, the dolphin payg deal advertises itself as "free internet", yet when i checked for more details it says "Free Facebook access worth £9*", can anybody confirm if the deal only offers free facebook or can i actually browse the entire web for free? What about sending emails, is that free aswell or will i have to pay a fee?
One more, what about calls, i didn't see any call "benefits" with the dolphin payg package, i think canary and racoon are probably best for that, but does anyone know how much minutes i'll get for calls? Or will i have to pay for that, per minute outside of this dolphin deal?
Just wondered if anyone on the orange dolphin payg deal can help? Thanks in advance!

Hi
I am venturing into the world of marketing as an affiliate product owner (clickbank) and would like some advice please.
I have considered blogging as a means to advertise my products. But, I am aware that blog.com and blogger.com etc may consider this a form of spamming.
I do not have the skills to set up my own website as a blog type site. Neither can I afford, at this stage, to hire a web designer. I am considering buying a domain name, hosting space etc but need advice on what would be best for my needs?
I do need the following:
- A package that has some form of easy build facility so I can simply build the site myself.
- A web site that has many pages for me to blog, upload pictures etc in fact has the same stuff blogger.com provides for its bloggers.
- A package with no restrictions so I can blog away whilst advertising my products as and when I deem appropriate.
I would appreciate any advice
Thanks

moreResolved Question: Rent Agreement (No Contract)?
Hi,
A friend of mine has fallen into a rent scam and she's been asking advice which I couldn't really help out with.
I feel really sorry for her and want to do my best to help out and thought of turning to everyone here for advice and guidance.
6 months ago my friend moved into this house which was advertised privately on the web.
The rent conditions were 6 months council tax exempt (landlord to pay) and utilities included which she thought was a bargain although the monthly rent was slightly high compared to the condition of the house.
No contract was provided and her landlord emphasised 'trust' rather then legally binding each other.
I agree this was a stupid mistake and she took things for granted.
6 months has passed now and the landlord is surprisingly demanding she pays the outstanding (!?) council tax and utilities and verbally abuses and threatens her at least 2 times a day!
She has argued plenty of times of the terms and conditions of the agreement but the landlord is in complete denial.
Out of desperation she contacted the website where the ad was placed however the company said they were unable to retrieve deleted ads.
Can someone please help?
My friend has a very gentle soul and right now she's traumatised from the experience she's going through..
I send my sincere appreciations for reading this.

moreVoting Question: Will yell.com advertising be worthwhile?
Hi
I am a self employed web designer based in South Essex and I have a little money to invest in promoting my business.
I have spoken to the people at yell.com and they will offer me a 'middleweight' advert for my yellow pages book area for around £590 for he year - this ad has photos, logo, bullets point, weblink etc.
In all honesty I probably need to get say 2 normal/average jobs from this to get my money back.
Do we think this is the best use of £600 for advertising? I have tried Google ad before but it seems to be company's offering their services to me (in India etc) and people looking for work who consequently get in contact, from this route.
Have other people used Yell.com for similar businesses and found it fruitful? or are there any other avenues that you might suggest. I am not looking for free advertising ideas, I'm pretty sure I have exhausted all these.
Any help/advice would be great.
Thanks
Ashley
moreResolved Question: I'm thinking about setting up a t shirt business...Few Questions...?
Right, this idea has been playing on me for a while, i'm a big photoshop user and come up with some great designs, i also have hand drawn images thrown my way to use every so often. My idea is to set up a T shirt printing business but selling my own stock of t shirts and hooded tops (zip up and pullover) and on the side line doing custom orders.
Heat Transfer, Vinyl Printing and Screen Printing...Which one is best, for business?
Also saying buy whole stock i buy a t shirt at £1.00 would selling them for £15.00 each be ok? and buying a hodded top for 3.50 and selling them for £18.00 is that a good price?
I know i will need some capital to buy stock and printing equipment as well as setting up a website. I do have a long term plan which includes a lot of promoting incl' Car shows, fashion shows, word of mouth, leaflets also self advertising ( wearing a t shirt which company contact info ) as well as having my car carrying signs about the company.
My ideal annual turnover is £248.725 with the wholesale costs, promoting costs, web hosting and printing costs deducted.
How come tax would be taking off?
I would be proposing this idea towards a family member who runs multiple businesses and might be interested in this venture.
also more costs that i need to take into account please let me know :)

i have been working all my life ever since before I got married for 14 years with no gaps of unemployment in Asia as a graphic/digital artist in major advertising agencies and global publishing firm until I joined my wife in the UK after her 1 year working here in the UK, I joined her in November 2004 as Dependent's Visa holder.
My employment was like on and off and most of them are only part-time or freelance assignments. I only had an over a year of full-time job from 2005-2009 may be because it was really tough also to work here as a couple with 2 small kids with no relatives, so when I was employed full-time I gave up to take care of the kids.
We were supposed to be applying for ILR in Nov. 2008 (she has 5yrs) but she messed around with another guy and that was the cause of our separation and I think there's no more chance of going back to her.
Right now, I am still working part-time or freelance as a web/graphic designer. Still tough because of the recent recession and very difficult now to get a full-time job.
Now my question is this, what's going to happen with my Visa which is currently a Resident's Permit until 2013? Can I apply for ILR without her? I haven't been exit the country since I came here straight for 5 years now.
I hope I could find the answer here and thank you in advance.
