Voting Question: Trojan Horse Problem?

I consider myself pretty internet computer savvy, so this one came as a shock to me. I was letting a brother use my laptop and go to a website that he's gone on for 6 months now. And today for whatever reason while he was on the site a warning popped up in the bottom left saying my computer found a handfull of Trojan Horse attacks. The program that popped it up though wasn't mine. So I clicked ignore or X (can't remember which) and I quickley started a scan on my laptop with my antivirus (I use AVG. It's just the free trial version right now though) and let it run and do it's scan. While it was doing this, my computer started having pop up after pop up come on about my computer being infected. Again though, these pop ups weren't from a program on my computer. At this point, I started to panic. My start menu began popping up without me clicking it. An icon with a shield, silver outline, and 4 colors popped up. And that's when I did freak out. (My parents had had something like this happen a year ago. A nasty virus called the Win32.) I could have sworn this was the same logo. So at this point I clicked start and shut-down my computer. I then restarted it, and after I did this I went to open up AVG again to scan my computer, but it wouldn't let me open it. It said it was corrupted. This is the point where I shut it down again and came up to a different computer to type this. If someone can help me out, i'd greately appreciate it. more

Hey, I've been working on a logo in photoshop and every image i use seems to be pixilated...but this only seems to happen when i put it in photoshop or the rest of the adobe suite, it looks fine otherwise. I figured if i used clip art from Microsoft's website it wouldn't pixilate, and sure enough it did! It prints out fine in word and publisher but as soon as i move it to photoshop, indesign, or illustrator it pixilates...any suggestions? p.s. Im a college student and I cant really afford to buy images, which is why i'm going to free route...but i guess you get what you pay for... more

I have been creating free websites and logos, fonts, etc. under a "business name" for about 7 years (here in the US, California). Suddenly today I received an email from someone claiming to be the CEO of [my "company" name], telling me to take down my website or threatening legal action. He claims to have a copyright on the name, and with a little research, it appears that he/his company are located in the UK. Any ideas on how I can make sure this is legitimate? Do I have any recourse for the fact that I have been using and known under this name for so long? If you do a Google search for the name, my website and dozens of websites linking to mine and font websites that have uploaded my fonts appear- his website is apparently not even present on the internet. Finally, does a UK copyright on a name (assuming it is legit), apply in the US? Thanks in advance. more

I am a creative professional. During a course of 8 months, as a volunteer for a start-up non-profit, I produced a large body of creative work - a logo, a slogan, a website, a printed brochure I designed utilizing graphics I created, and some written articles, all which has established an image highly beneficial to the organization and, I can demonstrate, contributed to their success. I spent approx 200 hrs of free time in this endeavor. It was not work for hire. I was not an employee. No contracts were drawn up. No documents regarding terms of use were drawn up. It was not given as a charitable donation. I can document I was the sole creator, and that the organization acknowledged me as such. Therefore, I assert that I am the sole copyright owner of this body of work. Parts of this body of work appear on printed materials, electronic media, social networking websites, and clothing and accessories. Relationships soured when new officers took over and I have been ill-treated and since ceased all affiliation with the group. Given my altruistic nature, there appears to be an assumption that I will simply hand over this body of work for their use. No officer has even approached me about negotiating fair use; I have been treated without respect despite my outstanding contributions as a volunteer, or even with common courtesy. I desire to sever all ties with them, including refuse them to use any part of this body of creative work. I do not wish to hurt them financially, nor due I wish to incur significant legal fees in proceeding with this matter. How do I proceed? Do I file for a motion for a court to order an injunction, or file for an injunction myself? This is a small matter, as I do not seek financial compensation, apart from filing fees, if I am entitled to reimbursement for these. I seek only to forbid them to use any part of this body of work. Can I seek to make them stop distributing the brochures? Can I seek to make them stop selling items with the logo on them? Thank you for your time.There is a legal definition for donation: it has to be explicitly granted in a written document. They did not contract with me for use. Therefore, it is solely their negligence that they did not do so.As I stated, it was not sold to them. It was not work for hire. I was not an employee. The only problem with this site is that it would cost me 40-50 thousand to create using a web design firm. I just dont have that kind of money to spend right now. So I got a new job as a Web Designer, and I E-Mail with my co-workers proofs and files for websites, most of which are under 5mb (our email servers limits) But If I need to email some files (like .eps logos [typcially 10-15mb]) They are too large. What is a good, FREE, SECURE (maybe password protected..? :) ) file sharing website, where I can upload files, and they can download them.Robin, you seem to miss the issue. The Design Director lives in Dallas, the IT guy is always at meetings, the Marketing Director is always out, and I am allowed to work from home. I've got a business logo that I want to change the color of the swirls to lime green or blue instead of red.
