Open Question: Is my McAfee subscription expired, or not?
I got a free subscription to McAfee when I bought my laptop. It said it expired on 8/26/10. Even on my profile account on the McAfee website, it said my subscription expired. BUT when I click on the McAfee icon on my taskbar, it said my subscription is active. I can still scan and it said everything is active, like the virus and spyware protection, web and email protection, etc. I want to know for sure before I uninstall it and dl a free McAfee off my school's tech site. Which brings me to another question, do I HAVE to uninstall if I'm downloading McAfee again?

Okay, I have the Apple iTouch 2g, my problem is on my next screen, the next slide past the home slide, I have no apps there and apps are suppost to be there but instead I got like random invisiable bookmarks that like where a app icon would be there would be a lil invisable icon where if you press it, it brings you to a blank web browser. I don't kno if it's something to do with my theme or just something worng.
And I have another problem. When you jailbreak your iPod everyone knos you get this one app named Cydia. From Cydia I down loaded WinterBoard and it turned into a app that went to my home screen, but when I downloaded the thing where I get free apps I have to do a serch on my iPod to find the app. Why didn't that turn into a app on my one of my slides?

2) Not sure what OS was being used so that might help insy-bit....(only familiar with Windows)
3) far fetched, but vid tutorial i think was either on how to invert colors in photoshop images/ or how to *something* on bluetooth software...but might not be both though coz i tried the former & can't remember what software i was checking out (i'll update this Question if it hits me later on)
4)Can't remember what the cursor looked like but the desktop background was black, so likely it was not a dark coloured mouse cursor. The ripples where 3" diameter, not super realistic like water or anything but rings 4-5 animated green rings moving away from the mouse pointer as the user clicked an icon or link.

Over the past week or so i've noticed a problem, both my web browsers and msn crash frequently, it's odd because when they are working the internet speed is fast but suddenly the loading icon will appear on my mouse cursor and I won't be able to click anything.
My computer is fairly powerful as I bought it mainly for gaming and can run alot of new games on maximum settings, so it's not just a case of my computer being a dud.
I did a virus scan and I found one virus, removed it but the problem still persists, I even used CC cleaner and deleted a ton of unecessary files to clear up space on my computer (I still had over 560GB free).
It's really starting to annoy me, and make is making it difficult to contact my friend. Any recommendations?

My PSP's cfw is 5.50 Gen-D3. Lately, i have been experiencing problems, with my PSP.
1. The games Resistance Retribution, WWE Smackdown vs. Raw and Free Running won't play on my PSP. Whenever i play them my PSP freezes and shutsdown on its own.
2. Everytime i open the PSP's web browser, then click the address bar, it also freezes. And it is normal the PSP will reboot whenever we choose a .ctf theme. But when it comes to me, after my PSP reboots after i choose a ctf theme, it just shows the ctf theme's wallpaper, no icons, sounds.
3. Every time i close my PSP, then i open it, it just shows the xmb wave, not the entire xmb(icons). It will take like 5-10 min even 20 -30 min just for the xmb to appear. Even homebrew apps wont work, it also freezes. There are even times whenever i play, the question asked whenever you press the home button appears even if im not pressing it.
I believe that my PSP is bricked, if it is, what can i do to unbrick it??? If it's not bricked then what can i do to solve this problem??? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.

My laptop got infected with a spyware/malware that fooled my xpsecurity into thinking that it had a trojan/virus or whatever, i've had similar problems before and i fixed them. so i ignored the constant alerts that i shud do a scan and get a antivirus program. until my free edition of avg software alerted me that it detected a virus/malware and asked me if i wanted it removed, so naturally i had it removed as a "power threat" after that the pop ups and alert disappeared. but then when i tried to access the internet using the icon from the start menu it asks me wha program i want to open it with and to choose from a list or use the web. ironically the ineternet explorer is one of the programs i could choose to open it with. i tried that at first and it tells me to download the iexplorer.exe file. so i did and tried to run the file and it reverted it back to the "open with" option, so i was stuck on a loop.but i was able to get onto the internet through the use of a favorites bar. instead of clicking on the internet explorer icon i just click on a site thats on my favorites bar. the same thing happens to all my other applicaions such as microsoft word, vlc player, system restore, msconfig, etc... but if i clicked on a video that's already saved or a word document that's already saved it opens up he application anf itwrks just fine. so obvoiusly my applications are still there, its just that my computer wont run any applications from the application itself. has anyone ever encountered anything like this? thanks in advance

I have a five year old PC that is currently running quite slowly. I am running XP, and the issues that I have are roughly:
Programs take ages to load, for example it takes about a minute from clicking the Firefox icon to it being loaded and able to browse the web. Once it has loaded, everything is fast and smooth (javascript/opening new tabs etc).
Switching windows- If I were to change windows from firefox to eclipse ide for example, it would take about 30 seconds till eclipse would respond to mouse or keyboard input.
Anything that is to do with explorer.exe is really slow- clicking on the start button will cause my computer to freeze for around 20 seconds until the menu is displayed, hovering over the All Programs button will cause the computer to freeze for longer. It takes ages to browse the file system, open a new explorer window, right click anywhere, show desktop.
My system has the following specs:
AMD Athlon 62 X2 3600+ (2.0GHz dual core 64-bit, 256mb L2 cache)
512 MB DDR2 PC2 5300 SDRAM (1/4 slots used)
Nvidia GeForce 6100 128MB GPU
250GB HDD
I have just purchased a 512mb stick to put in, as sometimes I get the "low virtual memory" warning. I may buy another 2 GB to bring the system up to 3GB of ram (the most win32 can address).
I am also a student, thus I have access to free copies of Windows 7 Professional (x86 and x64).
I was considering installing windows 7 (or maybe re-installing XP - but definitely not Vista) as I heard that it may run faster on older machines than XP does. I would probably upgrade to 3GB memory if I went for this option.
Is there anything else I can do to make the PC run faster? It's mostly the program loading/switching speed. Altho I had AVG free 9.0 & ran regular updates & scans.... I appear to have viruses!
I cant download anything in order to fix it as it comes up with a box asking me to choose what program i wish to open it in & i cant find one that is suitable. I mean what program do u use to get access to Internet Explorer? If I go into menu then click on IE then I can get acces to web... hence why im here now, but if i click on shortcuts or quick launch icons, it does the same thing. Anything, ie downloading new software, i get the same thing too.
The scan came up with all these problems that i couldnt fix... i thought i'd delete the program (AVG) & re install a new one... but cant. Ive tried system restore too but that hasnt helped.
I cant even remember how to get it back to factory settings (but i really dont want to do this!)

Hi All! I am trying to decide whether to format my notebook or not. This would be devastating since my PC is down for repair. As a web designer I NEED my access. Coincidentally, my PC went down over the last couple weeks and two hard drives failed on it despite having all the bells and whistles running and updating daily (Avast, Adaware, etc.) I believe a boot sector virus was the culprit. I do not share files with the notebook other than an occasional .png on a flash drive so it is really odd that both of my systems are having problems at the same time. The PC went down when I visited (stupidly) a Youtube advertiser for making mugshots into cartoons. The site seemed to have malware operating on it.
The notebook is just my backup and I rarely use it. So, here are the facts.
ISSUE: Most applications are resulting in "faile to initialize properly" errors
TIMEFRAME: This seemed to happen after installing the newest version of Firefox 3.6 (rev 1.9.2)
Maybe this system was already challenged. Please see the specs at the end of this description. The initialization errors occur on everything, even task manager, the control panel, looking at properties for My Computer, and such. It seems to be related to Firefox running. When I am working with my web host, which of course I must do online, Firefox locks up (about five tabs open) and then crashes. After the crash, the resources are released, then everything is okay. IF I open chrome, I get the "Aw Snap" error and the browser is unusable. Also, my word and notepad docs won't save with "out of disk space" errors despite having 4 gigs of hard drive free. I don't share files between my infected PC and the notebook so I am trying to rule out viruses. I think it might be the firefox upgrade. Oddly, I just clicked on the windows launch bar and almost all of the shortcuts were broken. Then, when I forcibly closed Firefox all the launch bar icons came back. When I closed Firefox I got the system resources error.
NOTEBOOK: Toshiba Lifebook E-Series
I can't look at the specs while Firefox is open, so I will come back and edit this question to add the specs.This notebook is used for web surfing only. It's specs are plenty sufficient for that purpose.

The Winxp installation is also original. It has never been reinstalled.Turning off the anti-virus program helped significantly but has not fixed the problem with the browser "breaking up." I am however able to look at the task manager and such. Resource unavailability is definitely the issue.

Yesterday I was all of a sudden getting error messages when trying to open anything on my desktop (web browsers, media players, just about everything). It was something along the lines of "Windows does not know the specified device, path ...". I found out that this was due to my free version of AVG soft ware. I uninstalled AVG, and things were back to normal.
Today I installed some new antispyware programs. Now when I open things the "Choose the program you want to use to open this file" box comes up. I.e., that box comes up when I click on my Firefox icon, and I then have to browse to find Mozilla on my computer and open it manually.
Why is this happening and how do I fix the latter? Thanks in advance.EDIT: I should also add that the second problem is still occurring after uninstalling the new antipsyware programs.

for christmas i got a ASUS K60 laptop and i signed up for the free security thing. the next day i was online and all of a sudden it showed the my computer screen n the web browser and it was showing infected signs by the icons. then it said something about downloading a security system and i did. the security system is called security tool and it says i have to pay for it to get rid of the viruses (but it mentioned something about it trying to get my credit card). so now i can't run any program or if i do, it gets interrupted. i have norton and was going to install it, but would that cure this problem? what should i do?

ok, im guna try and make this as short as i can....
im on a mac osx ... version 10.4.10. its a macbookpro and probably a couple of years old now...
when i go to the dock, i click on the itunes icon and it bounces 3-4 times then stops... and itunes doesnt open.... i click again... it bounces once... stops... and still nothing....
i called apple about this, they instructed me how to fully uninstall itunes so that i could download it again.... when it finished downloading, i went through the installation package, accepted the licencing agreement and the following messege appeared.....
" You need about 229MB more free space on the destination volume. Deselect some packages or quit the installer to make more space available on the disk then start the installation again"
Now i have backed up my itunes library on an external hardrive... ive then deleted ALL of my music on my laptop, also all my pictures and movies (presuming that i needed more space on my macintosh HD) but everytime i go to install itunes again, i get the same messege.....
what is "destination volume"????
If there is anyone out on the world wide web that can solve this problem, then you evidentally have more intelligence then all 5 of the people i have spoken to at apple...

Oliei have removed all USB inputs, i dont think that was the problem... im not, at any point, asked about destination volume, when i first download itunes it displays the box which asked you how you would like to run itunes....
first option is:
Open With (and a scroll box appears next to this of how i would like to open it and with what programme)
the other option is:
Save File ( with no option of how, or where i would like to save it)
I'm so confused by this, and clearly so are apple...

The other day I was watching a movie online when out of nowhere my Internet Explorer stopped working and now I keep getting the Internet Explorer cannot display the web page message every time I try and open up IE. At first I thought it was just some glitch so I rebooted a few times, it wasn't til later in the evening that I saw the virus message pop ups it was also around that time I realized my task manager wasn't working either.
I did go into the control panel to try and restore my desktop picture but every time I go into display properties -->desktop-- its locked, I cant click on anything. I did notice one of the background icons reads critical warning. Oh and also Spy Doctor sends me a alert to let me know that a threat has been blocked, sounds like my problem is in there but the question is-- how do I fix it??
I've downloaded AVG, Spy Doctor, SUPERantispyware and malawarebytes.org (which didn't work). My computer is running a little quicker than it was yesterday which leads me to believe that the programs helped in some way; however IE and my task manager are my only issues-- oh and the message on my desktop that says my computer is infected with a virus-- it seems to be behind my icons!
Does anyone know what free program I can use to get these to work again?
Any guidance would be really appreciated!!

Ok i was downloading Adobe10 for my computer so that i could play a game, and my computer got infected with a virus..im pretty sure thats wat it is. It is calling its self a "secutiry tool" and is located at the bottom right corner of my screen with the clock. I went to my control panel and tried to delete all the things that I had downloaded and it told me i did not have the administration to do that (and i could not find the "security tool" in the control panel) I tried to do a system restore and it blocked it. I will click on it and it will pop up and disapear. My screen is black and all desktop icons are gone. I tried to run my system cds that came with my computer and it will not run them. I try to run my norton 360 and when the scan reaches a certain point it goes to a blue screen and says that a fatal error has occured and the computer will shut down. I cant even open microsoft word or itunes of my music file, of my windows media, and i can barely open a web page. At this moment every 5 min it is poping up saying that the yahoo page is sending my credit card info to an outter source. I DONT OWN A CREDIT CAR!!!! it says the same thing when i try to open any program at all. Please help me. I have all my pics and such backed up. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

moreVoting Question: Why did my icons and text become larger?
First of all I only know the basics of computers. I downloaded a free trial from Big Fish games. When game expired only half the icons on my desktop returned so I restarted my computer. All of a sudden the icons were large as was all other program text and video. I checked on the web and tried what they said. i.e. going to display and properties and changing settings then changing them back and checking nothing was clicked that shouldn't be. I have restarted a couple times and unplugged it to no avail. Is there something I can do or am I stuck? Thank you!

i checked in the add and remove page in control panel and the program wasnt there and i cant seem to delete it anywhere else its not in my start menu but there was a icon on the desktop and when i delete it the software still runs and it has these annoying popups every few minutes telling me about how i need to register and that requires you to buy it too... help me? ;[ thank you

Here is my problem. There is this stupid little shield icon on the bottom right hand corner of my screen! It is called PC Security System 2009. It won't let me surf the web without giving me messages to download it and I can't check personal files like my bank account or anything without it popping up.
I already went online and saw that others have received this virus. I know that it is a virus that pretends to be a spyware protector, but really, it just damages my files and sets up a fake windows security system.
I am getting really sick of it coming back on my computer and having to go into "program files" in my c-drive to download the "uninstaller" just so I can uninstall it! Not only that, but it comes back anyway everytime I shut my system off and turn it back on. Not only that, but today it won't let me download the uninstaller.
When I googled ways to remove it, I discover all sorts of helpful malware and spyware programs, but there is another problem. They all cost $$$$$$. They perform scans for free, but make me purchase a license to install their program to remove ONE damn virus!
How can I remove this virus for free? There has to be a way! Computer techs...HELP! Give me step-by-step instructions. I don't care if it takes 3 pages.

I have a D-Link DWL 614+ Wireless router.
The router was set up and used for around 2 years now with wired and wireless connections using them daily.
I have 2 laptops using the Wi Fi, 2 computers connected to the router through ethernet cable and a Wireless Xbox 360 adapter.
All have worked fine up untill now, one day i get up and suddenly every computer now has limited connectivity.
At first i thought it was a problem with our ISP, Virgin Media so i contacted them and they told us some people have been having problems in my area an the next day sent out a technician who replaced the Virgin media modem with a new one, however still the same problem.
I then tried bypassing the router and connected a single PC directly to the modem and it worked fine, therefore it must be a problem with the router.
Disconected the router, and a couple of days later connected it all up again to find that it was once again working and thought our problem was solved.
However once again each PC has Limited connectivity, Local access only yet we are now unable to access the router via the the usual 192.168.0.1 adress in the web browser, i have tried resetting the router via the reset button on the back, but no luck.
Also when i click repair internet connection by right clicking the icon at the bottom it tells me there may be a problem with the DNS server, but like always we are using the same DNS adress as before.
If anyone has any suggestions on what may be wrong feel free to try and help.
PS.
I have tried manualy setting all of the settings, IP adress, DNS adress etc but still no solution.
