Help. I dont know if i should continue my studies in philippines. I am currently in US right now and my mother wants me to join the military but I am having second thoughts because I really want to finish my studies first. going back to philippines and returning here in US is not a problem thus I am thinking of going back to philippines to finish my college first. I am taking multimedia arts and we study mostly about graphic design, film making, web design etc. Will it be easy for me to get a job that is related to my course? coz my mother is saying i wont find a job that has high salary with my course blah blah blahhhhhhh. My mother is saying i should just join the military and they will let me study for free. I know that but will I be able to take the course I like? and if so, why other people don't join the military if it's that good being in it. please help me. I dont wanna join the military coz i dont wanna be stuck with them for years. My mother is like, just go to military so we can save up money instead of paying it for your college. >.< And yes, I wanna go to college because the military will always be there. by the time i graduated, i will be 22 years old and i can still go to the military. but my sister said, if i will still go in the military then why did i finish my college if im not going to use it as my career. oh my goodness this is making me crazy. how do i make the military pay for my college. and how long should i serve them? should i be in active or reserve. i dont even know what their difference is. if i go to reserve will i get monthly salary? and if im going to military. i dont wanna be destined to work on battle fields, as much as possible i wanna do just office works or in the hospital. how do i do that. please help meeeeePLEASE READ MY WHOLE POST. I recently took on a few side jobs of designing logos, websites, etc. How do I do the tax? Do I charge my clients tax? Would it just be local tax? How do I file my taxes? So I just go to an accountant and say "I started doing some free lance work, and this is the money I made, how much do I owe?" I I really just don't understand any thing about taxes, even though that's something I should have looked into before getting myself into this mess.... My name is Mark. I am a creative practice BA Honours degree graduate of Newcastle college. Specialising in Graphic, Editorial and Web Design. Since completing my degree this May I have had some time out and have tried a couple of full time jobs in fields other than that my degree is in. In this time I have had some thinking time, and have decided to give an idea I had throughout my Degree a real shot. I have always wanted to one day run my own magazine. My intentions originally were to work for an existing magazine for some added experience and contacts, but have found since leaving University that there is no work outside London. I do not however want this setback to stop me from achieving my eventual goal. Therefor I intend to take on board every ounce of advice that is available to me. I have never done anything like this, and although i have the editing skills, The business and startup side of things I have no idea about. How many people is realistic to start up the magazine? 3. How is it funded from the start? 4. How do free magazines fund the staff wages and printing etc? 5. How do you sell advertising space in your magazine? 6. What is the going rate of advertising space in magazines? 7. Who would print and bind the magazine? 8. How do you fund mass batches? 9. Once you have a full magazine, its printed, its bound and its in boxes in your living room...... how do you get it on the shelves in the supermarkets, news agents and WH Smiths. 10. Resolved Question: What else can I do I was a victim of fraud being lured into a job under false pretense?

I worked for three weeks for a company called ooh la la in ft myers fl I was originally hired as aretail clerk for $9 an hour but than was asked if I could do a side project at the rate of $20 an hour. I was told I could work from home until the project wa completed and then I would work in the store. I basically went over thier whole marketing strategy, website, seo, e-mail marketing, blog , discussed article writing basically i advised them on my project plan in detail on how they could save thousands of dollars annually, they stole my designs and ideas and hired someone else behind my back without paying me a dime. I turned down other jobs because i was under the assumption I was an employee on the clock these were significantly higher paying jobs as well, they made promises to me that i would be thier permament head of marketing department and filled my head with a bunch of fantasies that they never were going to go through with. They misled me and both owners played me like a fiddle one would tell me one thing while the other would act like they didnt know what was going on. They pretened like they didnt know about design and the web, in fact thier actually pretty saavy, they played me so good. I am furious and craigs list is filled with nothing but cheap scam artist trying to put one over on you. I want to know what else I can legally do to these people as this is personal as they delibertly planned this out from day one and even after I had told them of my financial situation. I have a BA in information technology 11 years of web development experience a degree in graphic design and as a paralegal I was also trained on the job as a marketing professional, Seo expert and public relations. I am exstremely profecient in my field uo to date with all the latest trends. I have been out of work not because I am not good at my job but because so many business are outsourcing thier It Projects oversees. I was applying for the retail job because thier are no web positions open in Bonita where i live. I was decieved and raped for my skills and these people were preying upon desperate workers. Thats why thier add for hire read as this " need a retail clerk with fashion since knowledge of twitter and facebook a plus' why would a retail clerk need to know twitter or facebook? that was so they could narrow down job canidates to web professionals such as myself and exploit them for there services. If i have typos its because I dont care just reply with advice thanks. I beleive it is the same as hiring a plumber for retail and this getting him to divulge how he gets crap out of the toilet and this discard him without paying him an easy way for them to get free services without paying. I reported them to the IRS, BBB, Rip off report, labor and wage division and the attorney generals office as well as osha and consumer and business protection advocate group. I also sent them a bill and a disclosure of services that if they use my project plan any of my designs or ideas that I will take them to small claims court. If they dont pay me for the weeks of service in the sum of 5,000 im sending them to a collection agency.Yes however I was hired as a hourly employee at first and tricked into developing a website - i never agreed to work as a sub contractor I have never been in a situation where I was hired as an employee but than later converted into marketing driector slash web developer as a hired employee, Freelance I usually ask for all the money upfront because clients want the world but never want to pay. i was caught off guard because i was hired a retail clerk not as a web designer I was never paid for either postition. more

Hi, I am a sophmore in Highschool, I have a real passion for Design and really like photography so i have a a few questions. Well first of all i have taken a introduction to graphics and design and will be taking more classes in graphic design, web design, and visual arts. My work so far is good but i would like to make it great(: now to the questions: since i am interested in photography can i start of using a digital camera? I use Opera Mini when accessing the internet from my cell phone. Right now, I'm looking for a nice, free MMO for it. Alright, so I would love to go to The Art Institute, but the fact of the matter is, 1) I am not made of money, 2) I am not sure exactly what I want to master in, and 3) I don't want to go into debt right out of college.. So, here is what I am planning on doing, maybe some of you who have already gone to an Art Institute can help me figure out exactly what I am trying to do and what would be best for me.. I would be talking to a college Rep right now, but it is the week-end and it is late, I would also like to hear it from the students point of view.. Right now, I am taking duel credit with my High School and Local College.. I am thinking about taking Multimedia Design, and Advanced Graphic Design... But, now that I look into the Art Institute, I am not sure if I want to pay for these when I would just be paying to learn them at a better college... With duel-credit I am only going for my prerequisites, so I can get my Associates degree by the time I get out of High School and obtain my Diploma. Here are my Questions. - Questions - When I look at the available courses.. I see a few different courses I like that have a few things in each that I want to do.. Can I pick and choose things I want to learn and setup a course for myself? Or would I have to pay thousands upon thousands of dollars to learn all of these courses. For example: I want to know Multimedia Design, Visual Effects & Design Artist, Web-Design, 3D Animation & Motion Design, Now, a lot of these are in specific courses and I know it would be crazy to go out and pay for 4+ courses when people normally specialize in one job... But, I would like to get specific skills to possibly make my own game or start my own company in the future.. 2) Are there ways of paying for this school, if you are in a situation where you have little money and cant afford it? But, have good grades in High School? I am at a 3.45 GPA right now. 3) With this economy, is it likely that I can still get a job right out of college? I am really worried about this specifically. 4) When it comes to graphics and technology these days... The future is always new and there is always something better... So, lets say I spent money and time going to school using the Adobe and Autodesk programs, what do I do if the company I go to uses company specific software, or changes to new platforms, does this mean I go out of a job because of technology updates? I know...I know... It's the ideal program for PROFESSIONAL photographers, web designers, and graphic designers, but still I'm not entirely sure if that's even a plausible reason as to why it cost so much -_- I mean, I've used GIMP before and that works pretty well for me, and I'm assuming that photoshop does a lot more crap than GIMP to make it cost so much? Another thing that grinds my gears big time...how are people getting this program for free...without getting viruses?! Hi, ever since high school I've had a great interest in web design and choose to look into a little more once I got out. I am now in my second year on a community college getting a degree over web and graphic design but it is rather starting to look lack luster to me. I'm starting to think that it just isn't my thing html coding and Visual Basic ( probably the worst thing for me right now ) aren't really what im looking for in a job. I do understand however that you take the good with the bad and learn html and stuff and get to experience all the nice things like flash and photoshop and get to put it all together but I'm curious to know if there is any fields that focus more on photoshop and image altering. I've also looked into how obtaining a web management career and how free lance it is really puts me off the career path all together (from what i read and researched it seems a lot of hunting and going from job to job and isn't very stable). So basically if anyone has any advice or know of any jobs that are more heavily focus on photoshop or just has experience or information in general about web management jobs I'd like to know. i want a stable career and want to live a comfortable life, help my family financially, maybe own a business some day... engineering seems to be a good choice for that ...i do have some interest in computer engineering or electrical engineering (mostly curiosity about how things work ) so i thought one of those too would be best for me BUT heres the thing ...on top of being just okay in math, i also have an interest in drawing and art ( i draw anything thats in a photograph) my family thinks i have talent and it would be a shame to let that go. id like to get better at it but i dont want to end up a starving artist, i thought about graphic design and advertising but theres just sooooo much competition. now just because i can draw doesnt mean ill do good in graphic design, in fact ive done some research and graphic design has very little to do with actual drawing (it has to do more with the creativity that the artist supposedly has) ...and the way things are going graphic designers are prbly going to end up being the new starving artist from what ive been told (feel free to correct me if im wrong) i dont want to give up my drawing abilities, but i want to earn a good living my plan is to major in comp eng. or elec. eng. then open an internet cafe and take care of all the repairs myself and as well as offer my professional services ... then i planned to take a course in web design to make some extra money on the side and once my business is stable enough to hire someone to manage it for me id try to work from home and take up drawing, painting, art as a hobby .....what do you think about it? does this seem realistic? will i still be able to enjoy drawing and art? i dont mind the hard work i have to put into majoring in engineering ...all good things in life require hard work and dedication... i just dont want to waste the skill i have for drawing ....so yeah please let me know what you think about my situation, any advice that you can offer, any corrections you may want to point out, any info you can give me would be greatly appreciated ...thankyou for your time more

Guys, I need some suggestion about getting a new desktop. I need to do pretty heavy programing and graphics editing, including photoshop ( planing to get dual monitor, but one should be fine for now ). I need my computer to also be able to run some mid size games such as mmorpgs or fps that are free to play online (i dont play much, but i need it to run without lagging). Also the ability to play movie with at least 5.1 surround sound output. Surf webs, and pretty much everything else from media.(i guess if it can do graphic editing it should be fine with these) Please suggest if i should buy or build ( i want it to be upgrade-able later on ) ( please list parts) and the budget is about $400 to $500, just for the CPU only, i can get everything else on my own. One more thing, it's going to run win 7 - 64bit. But it would be nice to have 2 to 3 running(no lag). And the upgrade-able is for future development when i need to squeeze more juice. Resolved Question: Laptop intel centrind duo freezes up often while playing video and is running slower then normal?

Ok if any compter gen can help me solve this i will be pretty amazed . My computer has been freezing up with either contunuous long beep which occurs during itunes or a just flat freeze with 45 min to an hour of web search freezes more often with many programs running like itunes internet poker stars ext. It just started doing this after i successful cured a fake protection virus about 2 weeks after . Now i have defragmented my comp I have scaned for virus with mcafee i have uninstalled many programs freed up large amounts of space ext. also downloaded speed fans with temps coming in around 70 c on core one and 2 . I dont know how i feel with the accuracy of this program . I have switch the graphic card propertys to 16 bit from 32 just in case the graphic card is tripping it out . Rebooted in safe mood and have done a system restore pretty much everything i could think of i just dont know. Ever since i switched from norton to mcafee i have had problems though i can say that for certain. Any ideas guys comp geniuses? more

Are there any good "self-study" graphic design course or anything like that online? I want to improve my graphic design skills enough to get a job in the field, but college is pretty much out of the question (online might be an option though). I don't necessarily need a degree (at least not at this point), I just want to be skilled enough to put together a good portfolio, and know what I am doing. I would not mind paying to take an online graphic design course, if it is really worth the money. All I have been able to find however, are the basic, free, one page "guides," and the $10k+ online graphic design schools where you get an associates or bachelor's degree (way out of my price range). It seems there aren't any places that teach you what you need to know that are also competitively priced. Also, I hope to do web design and/or desktop publishing type stuff. ;-) more

Hi everybody, I'm looking to upgrade my computer (it's a dinosaur... 40gb IDE HDD, USB 1.0 and 384mb RAM... caused by combining 128 & 256) and it's just toooooo slow, especially whenever I try to run graphics based programs like artisteer wordpress theme creator and web graphics creator. I get 'virtual memory too low' messages on a daily basis because the computer is constantly stealing free memory to use as RAM. Anyway. I use the computer for business purposes and online marketing (an obviously creating wordpress themes). So I don't need something super flashy as an upgrade. In this current economy, I've been told no one gives a hoot about us artsy folks. I've also been told that this is the best time to get an education. I've taken this advice to the head. I'm hoping that once the economy picks up again (2-3 years??), I will be done with my education and ready for a full blown and busy career. So here is a breakdown: I already have AA in graphic Design Cost: 20k I will be getting a BA in Web Design Cost 30k (i think) Photography/Certificate of completion Cost 50k End product/goal: So while I rack up the student loans, I thought I'd work for a company, just to have a sure steady paycheck. Mind you, with that sort of education, I could market myself as a one person art department, right? Higher pay? This would be temporary, just until I can pay down my loans while at the same time gaining "real world" industry experience, even if that means starting at the bottom of the food chain and working up. What I really want is to have my own business. Event photography but also providing web and print design for my clients. Not sure how much free lancing I would be able to do if I got a company job. Photography is my main passion, close behind is web. (print design is my least favorite but I know its a necessary evil) I'm about to enroll at Hallmark Institute of Photography. They offer a course in which 2 years worth of education is crammed into 10 months. Yes, its only a Cert of Completion, which, that alone won't get me far, but do I really need 4yrs, and a BA to take a good picture?! No, I don't believe I do. The question is... I know an education is worth the price.... but 100+k in debt?!?! Is this normal? and sadly, i must ask, is it really worth it? Keep in mind interest accrued. Here is what I want to do on my web site: A visitor clicks on a graphic and a short WAV audio clip is played. A clip is chosen at random from the collection on the site. I don't want to show an audio player (maybe just show the filename somewhere, optional) or have the visitor taken to another page, just keep the graphic as it is and play the clip. Another click repeats the process.
