Resolved Question: How can Dominos Pizza get away with their new advertising campaign?

I order pizza pretty often. Early on I learned that Dominos was pretty bad, so I stayed away from them. Their new Ad campaign basically has them admitting that their pizza has been crap since they opened their doors, and stating that they have revamped their whole recipe and improved upon every facet of their Pizza. They even show Chefs pouring their hearts out at the change. All of this made me want to try them again, so I ordered a special $5.55 each Medium Pizza, Bread Bowl and Sub. The whole meal was awful. The pizza crust was slopped in a greasy semi-sweet semi-garlic oil-slime, the sauce was so pasty it was like jello and the cheese and toppings were so sparse they cannot be commented on. The bread bowl was nothing short of disgusting and no one wanted more than 1 bite. It was slopped in the same sugary slime as the pizza, the pasta was and either uncooked or old; as it was dried out enough to be crunchy. The Chicken Habanero sandwich was not too bad, it had decent flavor but it was unbelievably skimpy. Compare it to a $5.00 sandwich from Subway or Wendys or to a Pizza Hut Pizzone and it comes up extremely short. The food was awful. The delivery guy was nice and he arrived on time but when he quoted the price it was $2 more than it was supposed to be. It turns out that Dominos charges $2 for delivery now, and it's apparently not something they mention when they accept the order, so that too was disappointing. Now all of that is certainly construable as opinion, but that was my experience as I perceived it. Obviously I was not happy. The Dominos commercial states EMPHATICALLY that you are guaranteed to love their new Pizza and that if you don't for any reason they are happy to give you your money back. The Head Chef then goes on to emphasize; "All of it, not half of it, ALL of it!" I called Dominos to tell them about my experience and I was offered a free Lava Bread the next time I placed an order. I explained that I wasn't going to be placing anymore orders and that I wanted my money back. The manager told me that Dominos did not do that. I mentioned the commercial and quoted the Chef and the manager responded by telling me that was just TV and that the best he could do was send me a new Pizza (not a bread bowl or a sub either JUST the same medium pizza) and that I would have to pay the $2.00 delivery charge for it. I told him that we hadn't eaten the first pizza and that I didn't want another one. I told him I wanted my money back a second time ....... and he hung up on me. I do not understand how a company can NATIONALLY ADVERTISE that they have a 100% money back guarantee that you will LOVE the product ( not just like or be satisfied with it but LOVE it is what they say in their ad ) and then utterly and totally break their word on it when someone asks about it and get away with it. I order pizza at least once a month and both Pizza Hut and Papa Johns always bring me my moneys worth. I wish I hadn't even tried Dominos again, they were always bad (and they have now admitted this) but......... HOW can they outright lie about a 100% money back guarantee and get away with it? With all the legal BS we have to go thru in this day and age is there no one who verifies claims made by nationwide franchises on national TV ? What can I do about this? I am pretty mad........... more

Resolved Question: Health-Magazine-Subscription Reform: Mandatory subscriptions WOULD BE CONSTITUTIONAL, right?

Constitutionally, the government has the power to "regulate interstate commerce", correct? Therefore, the government would have the right to force people to purchase health-magazine subscriptions [with content on improving diet, nutrition, health, exercise, fitness], correct? Here is the 10-point program that I propose: 1) These health-related magazine subscriptions [produced and distributed through private corporations -- thus we avoid the appearance of nationalized health care] would be made available in "public exchanges" online. 2) The magazines and their editorial policies would be thoroughly reviewed by federally-certified doctors to make sure they promote federally-approved drugs, therapies, and surgeries. 3) A primary aim of the program is to reach those people who currently lack health-magazine subscriptions. [The aim of this program is not to increase the profits of privately-owned health-magazine corporations and their corporate advertising clients.] 4) This program cannot really work efficiently unless all participate, that's why it must be a mandatory program. The price of health-magazine subscriptions has risen dramatically, because too many people are getting sick, and not enough healthy people are buying them. 5) This program would help slow the rising costs of health-magazine subscriptions, and who knows, could eventually even bring down the costs of health-magazine subscriptions. However, this program would require people to buy a scubscription at whatever the free-market prices are. [OK, perhaps technically that last bit should read be "enhanced free-market" prices.] 6) Forced buyers of low income would be federally-subsidized, and... 7) the best way to pay for this program would be to tax the people who have been the most successful. Since these people already have easy-access to health-magazine-subscriptions, they shouldn't mind helping to provide others with similar subscriptions. 8) This program would over time reduce the national deficit, because expert government accountants have done the projections, and that's what the projections show. 9) If people were forced to spend money as soon as the law were passed, they might not see the program in a balanced way -- so the forced-purchase part would only kick in about 4 years later (well beyond the next presidential election in 2012). 10) However, many of the taxes implemented by this program would kick in immediately. This reform would not be socialism or fascism, as long as constitutionally-elected and legally-lobbied representatives voted it into law. [Coming soon: Federally-mandated purchases of multiple-vitamins -- the vitamins would be produced by private corporations, under federal guidelines, of course] . more

Resolved Question: What is your opinion about Costa Mesa won't enforce anti-solicitation law?

COSTA MESA - The city of Costa Mesa has placed a moratorium on its anti-solicitation ordinance that civil rights groups say targets day laborers seeking employment on public streets. A month ago, the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California, along with the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund and the National Day Laborer Organizing Network, filed a lawsuit on behalf of day laborers challenging the ordinance. The lawsuit alleged that the 2005 ordinance violates the day laborers First Amendment rights and bans "active solicitation" by, of or from people in moving cars and in commercial parking areas that have signs prohibiting such actions. "They know they are going to lose," said Naui Huitzilopochtli, a member of Colectivo Tonantzin, a day laborer advocacy group. "The day laborers are happy that they settled for the moment." The city of Costa Mesa has agreed to halt enforcing the ordinance pending a decision by the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeal on a challenge to a similar anti-solicitation ordinance in the city of Redondo Beach, according to an ACLU release. Costa Mesa officials did not immediately respond to calls seeking comment. Click here for more immigration-related news. The solicitation ordinance is designed to address conduct that creates a public safety hazard and obstructs the entrances and exits to public streets and parking lots, according to the city. The city has for years tried to tackle issues related to day laborers. In 2005, the city shuttered a job center, which citizens argued attracted illegal immigrants and wasted taxpayers' money. The center – formerly on Placentia Avenue – opened in 1988 in response to complaints about loitering, traffic problems and unsafe conditions when laborers searched for work on streets and at parks. In September, police went to five hot spots throughout the city and arrested 12 day laborers for illegally soliciting work in three locations. The day laborers were later deported. Police Chief Christopher Shawkey said in a recent interview that police received 114 complaints from residents and business owners about day laborers intimidating customers and swarming vehicles prior to the September arrests. The day laborers were free to be in the locations if there were no violations of the ordinance, Shawkey added. He said the city has reached out to nonprofit and church groups to let them know about the guidelines of the ordinance. According to the ACLU, the ordinance also stops a wide range of other groups, including small businesses that use handheld advertising on public streets, homeless people who seek donations, people in fund-raising activities and students who try to get the attention of passing motorists for car washes. Besides asking city officials to halt the ordinance, the lawsuit asks that the city pay damages to Colectivo Tonanztin in an amount to be determined at trial. The suit also asks for reasonable attorneys' fees, costs, and expenses of the litigation. http://www.ocregister.com/news/day-237171-ordinance-laborers.html more

Resolved Question: Advertise online for free (yelp, Linkedin, kudzu, etc.)?

I have a small business. I would like to advertise myself online for free. Obviously I'm not at the national scale just yet so I would like to start with local advertisement. I'm in Atlanta, GA. So far my list is Yelp, Linkedin, Kudzu, Craigslist, Facebook/Myspace. Are there a few other really popular sites people use when looking for businesses online? Thanks more

Resolved Question: Question about the supreme court corporate free speech rule?

I have been confused a bit by this article which was sent to me by a “libertarian”: Napolitano says “Alito was right” http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2010/01/28/andrew-napolitano-obama-state-union-campaign-finance-alito-supreme-court/ I am having a bit of trouble sorting this out. As far as I can tell, the ruling means that any entity – corporation or labor union or group of whoever – can not directly contribute to a political campaign, but can set up a separate satellite ‘campaign’ that orbits outside the existing candidate and buys advertising to support that candidate. Am I reading this correctly? Furthermore, the Napolitano article states that “…the president attacked this decision by arguing that the ruling permits foreign nationals and foreign corporations to spend money on American campaigns. ” Which would technically be correct if the satellite campaign idea is correct. However the article goes on to say: ” The Supreme Court opinion, which is 183 pages in length, specifically excludes foreign nationals and foreign-owned corporations from its ruling.” And this would mean that foreigners and foreign-owned corporations can not participate in any satellite campaign organization. Is that correct? Finally, what constitutes a foreign-owned corporation? Does that mean 100% foreign owned? Or just partially foreign owned – like say News Corp. which is 5.7% owned by Prince Alwaleed bin Talal of Saudi Arabia? more

Voting Question: On the topic of controversial superbowl ads: ad for a gay dating site rejected by CBS?

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/01/29/national/main6154905.shtml (And then reported on by their own news network, no less) So the topic of the anti-abortion ad has been around this site recently, my basic stance as well as that of a few others being that even if you disagree with the message (which I, incidentally, do), the free speech is more important than the issue - it should be allowed to air. So here, we have an ad pulled for little reason other than that is shows two guys kissing. As the site's spokesperson said, not only are heterosexual makeout sessions ordinary for such TV, we see much more overtly sexual stuff being advertised in such slots regularly (condoms, erectile dysfunction treatments, herpes medications - stuff that goes a bit above kissing in terms of explaining it to the kids), but obviously the difference is that this is same-sex. Should CBS show the ad? more

Resolved Question: Has anyone tried to get the $2000 in free grocery vouchers they are advertising on the radio?

I have heard this ad a bunch of times in the last couple months. There's a consumer marketing company called Nelson Research Group that is offering $2000 in free grocery vouchers that they say you can use at any local or national grocery store. All they ask in return is that you tell them what products you purchased. It sounds too good to be true so I thought I'd see if anyone has tried it and had success or not. Thanks! more

Voting Question: Are Liberals or Conservatives more Pro-Freedom and Liberty?

I want to live in a country where I can say what I want, be what I want, , be free to practice any religion I want....I want to be able to marry anyone I want, I want to be able to adopt kids whether I'm gay or straight, I believe people should be free to wear whatever clothes they want People should be free to be anyone and anything they want I WANT FREEDOM! But in order for people to pursue their dreams their needs to be facilitations that enable for equal opportunity such as: 1) Quality education regardless of wealth status 2) Same with healthcare 3) Same with labor conditions and worker wages 4) Same with Environmental standards 5) Same with a national defense 6) A Justice system to establish justice 7) A Social Security Safety Net 8) A Security and Exchange Commission 9) A Federal Reserve 10) A State Department 11) A Nuclear Regulatory Commission 12) A Space Administration to advance us technologically 13) A National Science Foundation 14) A Department of the Treasury 15) A Department of Transportation to repair roads 16) A Food and Drug Administration so I can't die from an over-the-counter medicine and you see the list goes on and on. I want FREEDOM, but I want to live in a country where I can trust that what I see around me is indeed what is being advertised. I want to know if I engage in an entreprenuerial venture, that I will live through it because i won't be bankrupt if I get ill. I want a decent system of Government that can fascilitate all that freedom. It's because I want the freedom to last and last and last that I know Government performs a critical and necessary role and without Government, there wouldn't be a United States of America. Should I be a Liberal or a Conservative?Liberals have fascilitated Freedom to be experienced among a more diverse segment of America..... Conservatives leave it to individuals to find their freedom the long and hard way, which has greater reward, but since most do not find that risk/return, the Liberal course leads to greater levels of happiness. You don't believe me, look at the happiest cities on earth. They are not in the US. They are Amsterdam, Rio de Janeiro, Barcelona, Sydney. These countries are tad bit more socialistic (yes it's less potential per individual, more ACTUAL happy results. more

Resolved Question: TV bonanza for the BNP ?

Ofcom said broadcasters should consider making "additional allocations" of broadcasts and peak-time to minor parties "if evidence of their past and/or current electoral support at a particular election or in a relevant nation/electoral area means it would be appropriate to do so." This means the BNP will qualify for hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of free advertising at the next election. They will field enough candidates to guarantee them at least one party political broadcast on national tv and radio.AtS - i do advocate Democracy - i'm only asking the question, trying to guage the mood. Apparently QT did them more good than harm the other night - interesting isn't it?Ted - i seriously doubt you ever were a Tory voter, labour probably.Juls - it certainly has put the cat amongst the pigeons! Now, perhaps we really will start to see some sensible points coming through from the 'big 3' ? Holding my breath! The immigration debate has up until now almost been a no go area.Rich - having three offspring in their twenties i am very aware of how the BNP are making inroads into that age group. Thankfully ours have been guided by tolerance and acceptance as christians but quite frankly it wouldn't take a lot to ignite the blue paper even with them over islamic radicals and shari'ah law - some of their friends exhibit zero tolerance. more

Resolved Question: If we know these things about media, why do we let it pick our candidates for us?

http://7thspace.com/headlines/321193/large_majorities_see_media_attempts_to_influence_public_opinion_and_policies.html Why do you think, in light of the following poll results: 1. "In 2009, 86.6% (87.6% in 2007 and 70.3% in 2003) strongly and somewhat agreed that the news media have their own political and public policy positions and attempt to influence public opinion. And, 85.3% (86.0% in 2007 and 76.7% in 2003) strongly and somewhat agreed that the news media have their own political positions and attempt to influence public policies. " 2. "ON THE FAIRNESS DOCTRINE… While strong majorities of survey respondents (73.4%) believed the news media (newspapers, radio, TV and the internet) should provide equal time and space for multiple sides of issues, a similar percentage (70.9%) said the same media should be free from government involvement and allow the market to determine programming demand. "The results once again show that Americans are not getting what they expect from the major news outlets, yet they don't trust the government to fix the problem," says Dr. Castonguay. " 3. "Over half of all respondents, 56.7%, believed it's "bad for democracy" that six companies currently own almost all the major media outlets in the United States. Another 30.4% suggested it does not matter while 7.8% indicated it was good for democracy. Nearly two-thirds of Americans surveyed, 62.9%, suggested that these media ownership companies provide news that mostly generates ratings and advertising income over those (22.3%) who suggested these companies provide news that mostly informs the public about issues and policies. " 4. "Two-thirds, 64.1%, agreed that the health of our democracy is directly tied to the health of journalism. And, 67.9% agreed with a statement that read: "Old-style, traditionally objective and fair journalism is dead." Just one quarter, 26.5%, disagreed while 5.6% were unsure. " 5. "ON MEDIA BIAS… Poll results found 83.6% saw national news media organizations as very or somewhat biased while just 14.1% viewed them as somewhat unbiased or not at all biased. Some, 2.4%, were unsure. " Do you disagree with any of those conclusions? How do you react if media repeatedly refers to someone as a 'fringe candidate'?Levon, yeah I saw that. Those adults have a lot to answer for. more

Resolved Question: Would you support public financing for elections?

No business or private funding, whether it be from lobbyists or John Kerry's wife or Michael Bloomberg's billions.. This would be for any office. There would have to be a process to qualify candidates to get on a ballot that would not unfairly burden the less fortunate. At each level they could get free local, state or national airtime and a fund to use for advertising and campaign office costs. On the national level, presidential candidates would get progressive funding with marginal candidates still getting airtime but not money if they are seriously lagging. Any comments on pitfalls or benefits?Step out of the shadow and see the light. Our politicians are almost ALL bought and paid for. They are more interested in lining their own pockets and not in the welfare of their constituents. I think you're misguided if you can't see that. Your one valid criticism would be in how to administer an approval process. One flaw in that criticism is that there is currently a process to qualify you to run for office. Read this: http://online.wsj.com/public/article_print/SB121918996082755013.html Is that fair? I'm pretty sure we could come up with a system to qualify candidates that's 1/100th as complicated as the tax code. more

Resolved Question: Why are Hispanics trying to control free speech Latino leaders are displeased with what they see want Dobbs?

Why are Hispanics trying to control free speech Latino leaders are displeased with what they see want Dobbs fired ? Two national advocacy organizations have joined the campaign against CNN show host Lou Dobbs, saying that most Latino leaders are displeased with what they see as his inflamatory remarks on immigration and other issues and some are threatening to target advertisers that support his show. In doing so, advocacy groups Democracia Ahora and the League of United Latin American Citizens are joining a coalition of Latino groups targetting Dobbs in 25 U.S. cities -- including Latino Leadership and the Democracia Ahora chapter in Orlando. CNN's public relations office in Atlanta had not responded Friday to requests for comment. The Lou Dobbs Tonight show on CNN focuses on immigration as one of its top issues and often criticizes Hispanic advocacy organizations. Dobbs had to apologize earlier this year after accusing the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of condoning "Mexico's export of drugs and illegal aliens to the United States." Most recently, he has upset Hispanic leaders because of his focus on "illegal alien loopholes" in health care reform that many have denounced as false claims. Democracia Ahora said it will launch its own "Enough is Enough!" push to counter "the daily drum roll of misinformation and offensive commentary" on Dobbs' show. The organization had Bendixen and Associates conduct a survey of Hispanic leaders that showed most of them "are offended" by the show "as a result of his direct verbal attacks on the immigrant community and his misguided characterization of the Hispanic community as a whole." The Democracia group found that 90 out of 100 Hispanic leaders "ranging from members of Congress and heads of Latino advocacy groups, to CEOs of top American companies and the most prestigious Hispanic journalists and academics in the country" disapprove of Dobbs' show. “Latinos are contributing to the fabric of this great nation in immeasurable ways, from backbreaking work in the nation’s farm fields to active civic engagement and participation in the Democratic process," said Jorge Mursuli, President of Democracia Ahora. "It is truly unconscionable that a world class news network such as CNN continues to directly and indirectly attack our community." The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is complaining that Dobbs is attacking their organization specifically, having called it a “left wing socio-ethnocentric group.” “Over the years, Lou Dobbs has consistently used his CNN platform to spread hate and fear. We are asking his sponsors to stop advertising on his show,” said LULAC president Rosa Rosales. http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/news_hispanicaffairs/2009/09/drop-lou-dobbs-fight-escalates-as-hispanic-groups-target-advertisers.html Where are these same voices in the make Mexico a better country debate ? more

Resolved Question: If we nationalize health care, shouldn't we do the smae with food?

One of the great scandals of our age is the fact that America spends more on food than any other nation. Many political leaders are now calling for urgent reform to bring spending on food under control. Even worse, while the result of this uncontrolled spending includes the fact that many Americans are overweight, some Americans do not have enough to eat. Leading liberal candidates now point to what they see as the heart of the problem: corporate "greed" in the form of grocery stores and restaurants operating on a for-profit basis. They promise to replace all private grocery stores with a national system of government commissaries, which will allegedly operate far more efficiently without the administrative overhead required to make a profit. As it will take some time to organize the national network of commissaries, initially groceries will be available only at offices of the Department of Motor Vehicles and U.S. Postal Service. These offices apparently have a proven track record of operational efficiency and excellent customer service, and will be a model for the development of a government commissary system. Liberals would achieve further efficiencies, so they claim, by prohibiting all advertising of food and food products. This wasteful expense to provide consumers with unnecessary information has proven to be just a way for food stores and manufacturers to inflate prices and fatten business profits. Consumers will find shopping to be much easier if personal preference is eliminated in favor of whatever foods government makes available. To achieve savings by eliminating the profits of food manufacturers, the U.S. Department of Agriculture will assume ownership of all of these firms, purchase all crops from farmers (until such time as agriculture can be reorganized into government operations) and manufacture an appropriate amount of food. In spite of the efficiencies and cost reductions that government management will achieve, there is some concern that food might not be affordable for everyone. And food is surely a "right," as it is necessary for human survival. Therefore all groceries made available in government commissaries will be free of charge. This will be financed by an increase of 15 percent in income taxes, except for those making over $80,000 a year, whose taxes will be increased by 75 percent. Because the supply of food is not unlimited, a fixed amount of ration coupons will be distributed to insure that each consumer can obtain an equal amount of food. All private restaurants will be closed because of the need to equalize availability of food, and limited cafeterias will be operated in the government commissaries. Liberal political candidates point to the excellent example of school lunch programs as a model, and the proven results demonstrated by several generations of well-nourished, trim and fit students. So far, conservative leaders are at a loss after hearing these proposals. Some of the more courageous conservatives are responding with proposals for Mandatory Food Purchasing. All citizens, including those who go to bed hungry every night, will be required to purchase membership in new Food Management Organizations. Private grocery stores and restaurants would still be permitted but under strict price controls to insure that all consumers can afford their FMO memberships. To further control costs, the purchase of certain cuts of meat and imported gourmet foods could require the FMO's advance approval. Across the political spectrum, there is a developing consensus that the only appropriate response to the fact that some consumers cannot afford groceries is to impose a single, regimented, government-controlled food system on all citizens. Advocates point to public education as an example of how forcing all but the children of the most wealthy citizens into the gray, sterile desert of a poorly performing public education system is the only way to insure that poor children receive any education at all. Rumor has it that the clincher for those proposing socialized grocery plans was stated recently by one of the presidential candidates: "The ideal thing about these proposals is that if we can somehow get this to work for groceries, we can apply it to health care." more

Resolved Question: Why has no nation on Earth ever had a successful private, for-profit, universal health insurance system?

Attention, high school drop-outs! Free debating lessons here: ************************************************************************ Before answering the question above, please read my answer below. If you disagree with my facts and logic, please tell me why I am wrong. Then I will tell you why you are wrong. That is the way grownups do it. If you only want to type a sound bite, go away. *********************************************************************** Profit-making is incompatible with the prevention and cure of sickness. Healing sick people is not a service in the same sense that fixing a car is a service. The auto-repair industry serves its customers profitably in a free market for several reasons that do not apply to the health care industry: 1. The cost of an auto repair rarely exceeds 50% of the cost of acquiring an equivalent vehicle and is usually less than 5% of that cost. The patient cannot acquire another body. The cost of an illness may exceed the combined cost of a buying a home and raising a family of university graduates. 2. Garages stay in business by making good decisions and providing good service. Health care providers stay in business (retain their medical license) by conforming to industry standards. The health care industry (as opposed to the health care INSURANCE industry) does not want customers. They do not have to attract customers. There is no point in advertising for customers. The doctor regrets that the patient needs his help. The patient regrets being a patient. 3. Auto repair is based upon commodities: widely available parts, repair manuals, tools, and mechanics. Costs are well known and prices are regulated by competition Health care equipment is highly technical and very expensive. Doctors are mostly specialists, often researchers with few students. They sometimes build their own equipment. The customer’s life may depend upon finding the right doctor. If that doctor does not have a contract with the patient’s private insurance company, the claim will be denied. (http://www.creators.com/liberal/froma-harrop/free-market-death-panels.html) 4. All drivers can afford to drive – until they can’t. If too many drivers can’t afford to drive, some garages may suffer or fail. It’s tough on the ex-drivers and ex-garage owners, but that’s the free market. Patients must be served whether they can afford to pay or not. If they cannot pay, the cost must be shifted to others. In particular, children and students cannot afford to pay for their own care. But they must receive the finest possible health care (and education) regardless of the wealth or poverty of their parents. This requirement is enshrined in our Constitution’s Preamble which vows to “promote the general Welfare and to secure the Blessing of Liberty to ourselves and to our Posterity.” Posterity is our nation’s ONLY product. We MUST do it right. Spending large public funds on the postponement of death for a few very uncomfortable months is an irrational betrayal of our heritage and our national interest. For the above reasons, universal health care costs can only be met by payments of deductible claims made through an insurance system financed by premiums that are subsidized for the poor. Costs are paid from the insurance pool. For statistical and administrative reasons, the larger the pool, the lower will be the premiums. The risk is spread over a larger population. That is why single-payer policies are the least expensive: everybody is in the same pool. This is a mathematical CERTAINTY. Breaking the insurance pool into a hundred different pools adds important costs: financing, administrative, advertising, customer selection, claims denial, high executive salaries, and profits. These additional costs (over 25% of the total current cost and over 33% more than the single-payer costs) represent a “tax” paid to private insurance companies by all its customers with no benefit to the consumers. The usual objection to single-payer is government inefficiency. And reduction of Medicare and Medicaid costs are part of the legislation before Congress. But the Veterans Administration provides excellent care to millions of veterans suffering a wide range of problems at a very reasonable cost compared to private industry. Government rationing of health care is another objection. But, without exception, every private health care insurance company has a large building with an entire floor or two devoted to a department that does nothing else but ration health care. These claim deniers are answerable only to their highly paid management, not to Congress or to a State Legislature or to the voter. The only recourse to denial of a claim is to file a suit through the court system and pay the lawyer. There are now insurance solutions approximating single-payer before Congress. They need your support.General answers: Success means that, with relatively few exceptions, everyone is served as well as possible within the available resources regardless of previous history or ability to pay. Of course, some will be served better or worse than others. It's the intent that counts. We have two excellent VA hospitals in the Chicago area. I receive excellent service in my clinic. The brouhaha at Walter Reed was solved by firing a general. There are problems at all hospitals, VA or not. Most of the VA problems arise from PTSD cases. No civilian hospital has that problem. I can't believe how many high school drop-outs skipped reading my carefully thought out essay and just dropped a sound bite. That's rude. I begged you guys to go away. For those who got ripped off at a garage, welcome to the free market. If you were treated that badly in a hospital, you might want to hold off on tort reform.jwoody88: The USA has a private (not public), for profit, health insurance system. It is neither successful in economic terms nor universal. Many people, including me, have been very well served, whether private or public. I am on Medicare and have no complaints, nor have I ever heard a senior complain. The problem lies with those who are not served.Texas Tre. The US Army, Navy, and Air Force are models of efficiency. Expensive, yes, but efficient in the sense that they do their best and are held accountable. That is somewhat like the USSR, which could beat us into space but couldn't make bumaga (that's toilet paper). The civil service people in our government are excellent. The problem is the guys like Brownie, who did a hekkova job at Katrina. Bush tried to run Iraq with born-again Christians just out of Bob Jones college. He tried to replace federal attorneys from the same source, which is getting Karl Rove into trouble now. more

Resolved Question: im writing a research paper and i need commentary for my quotes please help!?

im writing a research paper for my english class and the rough draft is due tomorrow the topic is on animal experimentation i have quotes but i need to write commentary on them these are a few of the quotes i have: “In 1824, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) was established in England to lobby for the humane treatment of animals. The RSPCA remains Britain’s largest animal-rights group today, with 500,000 members. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) was founded in 1866. One of the largest U.S. animal-advocacy groups, it currently has 350,00 members.” (Animal Testing). “The first anti-vivisectionist society in the U.S. was formed in Philadelphia, Pa. in 1883 and sill exists today as the American Anti-vivisection Society” (Animal Testing). Vivisection is defined as the practice of performing operations on live animals for the purpose of experimentation or scientific research. “It was not until 1966 that similar legislation was passed by the U.S. Congress, in the form of the Animal Welfare Act. That law set minimum standards for the care of animals in laboratories and required government-run and private labs to submit to random inspections by the Agriculture Department (USDA). The law has been amended three times—in 1970, 1976 and 1985—and now applies to animals exhibited in zoos and circuses and those raised by commercial breeders for sale to pet stores and researchers” (Animal Testing). “PETA was founded in June 1980, and since then has become one of the most influential animal-rights groups in the U.S. PETA’s dedication […] has attracted 500,000 members to its cause. PETA has relied heavily on publicity and advertising campaigns that feature celebrities” (Animal Testing). “Even more militant animal-rights supporters emerged on the national scene in the mid-1980s. Since 1984, the underground international group Animal Liberation Front (ALF) has claimed responsibility for more than 70 attacks on research labs in the U.S. in which equipment has been destroyed and animals set free. A spate of lab raids in the 1980s led to the passage of the Animal Enterprise Protection Act in August 1992, which made attacks on animal labs or farms a federal crime punishable by fines and imprisonment” (Animal Testing). anything will help. pppllleasee and thank yoouuu <3 more

Resolved Question: what are some fields of science for this article below?

Google Inc.'s YouTube said Thursday it is vastly expanding its library of full-length movies and TV shows it offers online, while also launching a new advertising service and adding about a dozen new content partners. The long-form videos will be housed on a unique page at http://www.youtube.com/shows and get a "Shows" tab on the main YouTube site. The offering, which went live late Thursday, marks a further departure from the fuzzy homemade clips that made the Web site popular and is the latest move in YouTube's attempt to boost sales and profits. Last week, YouTube announced it was teaming up with Universal Music Group to create an online music video venture. "It's a first step in a long commitment," said Shiva Rajaraman, a YouTube senior product manager, in a conference call with reporters. The company hopes to add to its movie and show content over time. The titles available at launch are mostly older fare that are already available elsewhere on the Web. It will offer for free hundreds of TV show titles including "Beverly Hillbillies" and "Married With Children," and hundreds of movies, including "Casino Royale" and "Cliffhanger." The service expands on YouTube's existing partnership with several studios, whose parents include Sony Corp., Lions Gate Entertainment Corp., CBS Corp., Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. and Liberty Media Corp. On Thursday it also announced new partnerships with 13 smaller companies such as Discovery Communications Inc., National Geographic and SnagFilms LLC. Advertising revenue will be shared with the content providers. The news came on the same day Mountain View-based Google said it earned $1.42 billion, or $4.49 per share, in the first quarter, up 9 percent from a year ago. Google bought YouTube for $1.76 billion in late 2006 but it hasn't emerged as a major marketing vehicle and the company does not disclose its revenue figures. Analysts have estimated its revenue in 2008 at around $200 million. On Thursday, YouTube spokesman Chris Dale simply said a recent analyst estimate that said the site lost $500 million a year was "factually incorrect" and said its performance was better. As a way to bolster its ad revenue, YouTube also announced it is launching Google TV Ads Online, which will help advertisers target viewers of online content with video ads. Single video ads are planned to be inserted in scheduled breaks in shows and movies, Rajaraman said. Sometimes the ads will be sold by Google and sometimes by the content providers. Certain content providers also provide their own video players, such as Sony's Crackle.com player, which will be embedded in the YouTube site. Crackle.com has 60 movies on its site, but will be offering only 15 at time through the partnership. For example, "Groundhog Day," initially will not be shared, as Sony managers intend to use YouTube's large audience to help drive traffic to Crackle.com. more

MY Ideal for socialized medical start program? Not only that but how its cheaper to start. and to get funding for it. Resolved Question: Los Angeles Chargers... coming soon?

It may sound a little wierd... but it's a definite possibility. In January the San Diego Chargers signed a deal with Wasserman Media Group, located in Los Angeles, to begin HEAVILY advertising the team in the Los Angeles and Orange County markets. To many people, the Chargers may be making the initial first stages in moving the team back to Los Angeles following the 2009 or 2010 season. Notice how I said, "moving the team back to" LA. A little known fact is that the Chargers initially were created and played their first season in Los Angeles in 1963. They were the Los Angeles Chargers and who was their owner at the time, you may ask...? Baron Hilton, Paris Hilton's grandfather. OK, OK so signing an advertising deal to market the team in L.A. doesnt mean they are definitely moving, but take a look at these facts: 1) The Chargers have been trying to have a new stadium built in SD since 2002, so far to no avail. 2) The Chargers were allowed to begin searching for stadium sites in SD County a couple years ago, after the city of San Diego refused to discuss any new stadium with the team. It came down to 3 cities; National City, Oceanside, and Chula Vista. Chula Vista was finally picked as the final chance for the Chargers to have any hope in staying in SD County. The only site deemed worthy by the Chargers for a football stadium is located by the Chula Vista bayfront, where a power plant currently stands. The state just ruled that plant cannot be torn down anytime before 2018. The Chargers already said that is the last and final spot in SD County. If that spot falls through then they will be forced to look outside SD County. 3) The Chargers are contractual bond to the city of San Diego till the year 2020, however, there is a loophole in their contract with the city. It states if the city has not built the team a new state of the art football stadium then the team is free to move after the 2008 season. 4)The City of Industry (Los Angeles County) has just approved an environmental report approving the construction of a state-of-the-art football-only stadium. The voters of the city have also already approved a new stadium for their city. The City of Industry is about 10 minutes east of downtown Los Angeles. The developers, who created the Staples Center in downtown L.A., have said all they need to do now is find a team who will commit to playing there and they will immediately begin construction. 5) At this point in time, the Chargers are the best positioned team in the NFL to relocate. Is all this a sign of things to come? Mark Fabiani, Chargers Special Counsel, recently said the Chargers are "committed to playing in San Diego for the 2009 season." OK, but what about the 2010 season or after? Kinda makes Charger fans nervous, dont ya think? Personally, I dont want the Chargers to leave SD but if they do decide to move then I rather have them head up Interstate 5 than across the country. What do you guys think? I would love to hear from Charger fans and L.A. County sports fans. Charger fans in SD, will you still support the team if it moves to L.A.? L.A. sports fans... will you support the Chargers if they make the big move north? more

Resolved Question: If Limbaugh and Beck shows weren't given away for free would they still be famous?

Here's how a barter deal works: To launch the show, Limbaugh's syndicator, Premiere Radio Networks -- the same folks who syndicate Glen Beck -- gave Limbaugh's three hours away -- that's right, no cash -- to local radio stations, mostly in medium and smaller markets, back in the early 1990's. So, a local talk station got Rush's show for zilch. In exchange, Premiere took for itself much of the local station's available advertising time (roughly 15 minutes an hour) and packed the show with national ads it had already pre-sold. Think Gold Bond Medicated Powder. It's a very sweet deal for local radio station owners, explained Bill Exline a respected radio broker (he helped people buy and sell local stations). "Not only does the local station get three hours of free programming," Exline explained, "but that's one less local talk-show host on staff they need. It makes small- and medium-market radio properties more profitable and attractive by cutting down staff expenses." If stations had to pay, would they? more

Resolved Question: Characteristics of the different martial arts?

Although I don't practice martial arts (mainly due to no options due to a rural area) I've developed a slight interest in them. However I've had some difficulties in getting an overall impression for some of them, some answers would be nice. Going to move to a city for studies in a few years, and I think I'll check out some martial arts then. The only offer in my town is kyotokushin karate or something similar, the one advertised as the strongest, but even though the teacher is supposedly a national champion, I've gotten the impression that it's not something very helping, an older sister of mine went there for two years and didn't really learn much of use, atleast that she recalls, and some of my peers learn there but don't really seem much stronger even after years. Anyhow... Feel free to correct any I have wrong or fill in the blanks. Jujutsu: I've gotten the impression that it's mostly about joint manipulation and throwing people, getting them on the ground, with few strikes or kicks, and it's more about using the opponents momentum against them. Judo is just a more sport-centered and less violent form of older jujutsu? Also, was jujutsu an original Japanese martial art, or was it inspired/derived from Chinese teaching like akido, and karate etc? Developed by actual warriors rather than weaponless farmers or almost-pasifist monks? Karate: Many different styles, but generally a rather hard MA, with mostly punches and kicks, requires a better physique than most soft MA's, mostly a defense focus and alot of moral/etique ideas surrounding it, based on Okinawan modification of Chinese kung fu (and therefore a kenpo?) Muay Thai: Sport-modified and less brutal version of Muay Boran, but still plenty brutal, focus on knees and elbows along with normal punches/kicks, less morals/spiritualism over it than most Eastern Martial arts? Kung Fu: Alot of very different styles (every Chinese MA?), but generally a focus on acrobatics, ironically unorthodox strikes with for example the corpus despite kung fu being one of the oldest MA's, more grappling/throws than most MA's except wrestling/jujutsu/sambo etc. Much focus on quicker strikes and specific spots to hit? Taekwondo: Pretty shaky origins since the Japanese in wars fucked up much of Korea's culture, much focus on kicks, acrobatics and more shouting/screaming than most MA's, supposedly not as practical as say Muay Thai/Kra Maga. Kra Maga: Very practical MA developed by some Jew in Germany just before/during WW2 and used to fight Nazi millitia there, then later exported to Israel and now used by it's military, and therefore pretty much proven viable. Pencak Silat: Havn't heard much except that theres a very large amount of (pencak?) silat styles, very curious. Savete: Relatively modern style developed by French sailors, less than honorable focus on kicking and quick, light strikes? Boxing: Derived from very old techniques used by Greeks/Persians before 0 AD, now long "sportified", only focus on different kinds of punches? I'd also like to know a little of Glima. Is it verified that it stretches all the way back to Norway/Skandinavia and the Viking Age, or is it a newer style only used on Iceland? Also, the basic preface seems like a very limited, amateur folk wrestling, but I've also heard that there are styles less limited and more brutal more suited for real fights? Sorry if anything I've said sounds/is ignorant. more

If that's the case, why is it they keep saying in the commercial that everything's' free? They NEVER mention even ONCE during the commerical that you have to pay for anything & if you do, I think that they're leading alot of people on & that IS actually a form of false advertising, isn't it? more

Resolved Question: When I see things like this it makes me sick - President Obama Thong?

Now do you know why we must protect our President? White House Lawyers Look to Limit Commercial Use of President Julianna Goldman – Fri Jan 30, 4:16 pm ET Featured Topics: Jan. 30 (Bloomberg) -- Barack Obama’s popularity makes him a marketer’s dream. Now, the honeymoon may be over for those trying to profit from his appeal. White House lawyers want to control the use of the president’s image, recognizing the worldwide fascination about Obama’s election, First Amendment free-speech rights and easy access to videos and photos on the Web. “Our lawyers are working on developing a policy that will protect the presidential image while being careful not to squelch the overwhelming enthusiasm that the public has for the president,” White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said. Obama’s calls for change and his “Yes We Can” campaign mantra are being evoked to sell assembly-required furniture in Ikea’s “Embrace Change” marketing campaign, bargain airfares during Southwest Airlines Inc.’s “Yes You Can” sale and “Yes Pecan” ice cream at Ben & Jerry’s Homemade Inc. shops. “I can’t remember this ever happening to an active politician before, as a spokesperson or as an image for a brand,” said Brad Adgate, director of research for Horizon Media Inc., a New York-based advertising agency. “He’s in the highest profile of any person in the world right now.” Riding the wave of Obama’s popularity may become a concern when advertisers use his likeness without permission to imply that Obama is endorsing a product or cause. The White House through the years has objected to commercial use of presidential faces, such as footage of President George H.W. Bush in a Cold War-themed 1989 television ad for cold medication. Presidential Speeches The National Education Association is running a TV ad with excerpts from a speech Obama gave on July 5, 2007, with the group’s logo behind him. The educators’ group has previously shown remarks by Obama in Web videos and is confident the president shares a “clear and longstanding” commitment to “real change and real reform in education,” said Steve Snider, NEA’s manager of advertising and broadcast services. The Web site for McKinstry Co., a Seattle-based mechanical contractor that Obama visited during last year’s presidential campaign, features a YouTube clip of Obama praising its work improving energy efficiency at schools and office buildings. “As president I’ll use companies like McKinstry as a model for the nation,” Obama says. McKinstry spokeswoman Genevieve Guinn said the company bought rights to the video and hasn’t gotten any White House complaints. Obama’s face is on a full-page newspaper advertisement by the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity, a lobbying group in Alexandria, Virginia. Burning Coal “We figured out how to put a man on the moon in 10 years,” the ad quotes Obama as saying last August. “You can’t tell me we can’t figure out how to burn coal that we mine right here in the United States of America and make it work.” The group also began running a TV ad in December that shows footage of Obama promoting clean-coal energy during a campaign event last September. The clean coal lobby group told Obama representatives about the ads before the inauguration and received no signals from them that there was any discomfort, As a record-setting crowd jammed Washington earlier this month for Obama’s inauguration, Obama’s face was featured on thousands of t-shirts, coffee mugs and calendars for sale at stores and street vendors across the capital. Obama’s official inaugural committee got into the act, too, setting up its own memorabilia store. Malia, Sasha Dolls Since the Obamas moved into the White House, Michelle Obama objected to the sale by Beanie Babies-maker Ty Inc. of dolls with the same names as her daughters. The company said the Sweet Sasha and Marvelous Malia dolls weren’t modeled after the first daughters. A search for Michelle Obama’s name on Google Inc.’s Web site brings up an online ad for J. Resolved Question: Do you agree with being forced to fund the BBC?

Independent economic research analysis and investigations by consumer protection organisations such as the National Consumers Council have consistently concluded, for many years, that the UK TV licence is a levy which is regressive in its financial impact on the poor. This gross iniquity is perpetuated in essence by the UK Government upon its most vulnerable citizens. This situation is even more outrageous in an age when the poor may receive only 5 terrestrial TV channels, for which the TV licence contributes to the cost of only BBC output, yet the more wealthy within the UK tend to enjoy dozens, or even hundreds of digital or satellite TV channels at comparatively little extra cost to them per channel. This petition accordingly urges the Government to abolish the UK TV licence and allow the BBC to make use of all lawful, reasonable, modern means of capital and revenue generation including share issues, property equity stakes and loans and advertising on BBC TV, radio and internet broadcasts. Do you agree with being forced to subsidise a selfish liberal/left minorities favourite TV station. Shouldn't you have the right to watch genuine Free To View stations without being forced to subsidise what a minority watches ? http://www.tvlicenceresistance.info/petition/ more

Resolved Question: Read this!! Want to be taxed for each mile you drive?

The following is an article from newsobserver.com. If you don't want to read the whole thing, it basically says that they are playing with the idea of taxing everyone for each mile they drive because more and more people will be turning to fuel efficient cars and not buying as much gas and they will be loosing the gas tax money. What do you think of this? ================================== Bruce Siceloff, Staff Writer Comment on this story Two hundred Triangle drivers will be recruited this fall to road-test a satellite-technology system that might be used one day to collect highway taxes on every mile we drive -- replacing the gas tax on every gallon we buy. Computers mounted in volunteers' cars will use global positioning system tracking to count the miles -- even across state lines. Participants will receive make-believe state and federal tax bills for their miles. For their time and their opinions, they'll be paid $895 in real money. The $16.5 million Road User Charge Study will enlist drivers in six states to determine whether the technology works, and whether Americans would accept a new mileage tax. Volunteers will be asked how they feel about technology that collects information about their driving. The federal government and 15 states, including North Carolina, are paying for the study to find a fair, reliable revenue source that can keep pace with growing transportation needs. "The gas tax is not going to be a viable way of funding our highways in the future," Jon Kuhl, a University of Iowa professor who is directing the study, said in an interview. "The national Highway Trust Fund is already going broke, and the situation is going to get worse." Gas tax collections are slowing as cars get more miles on each gallon, and as $4 pump prices force Americans to reduce their driving. A few years from now, many Americans might be driving plug-in electric and fuel-cell cars that don't use gas at all. Michael Walden, an economist at N.C. State University, said the study will help Americans answer hard questions about how to pay for the nation's transportation infrastructure. He agreed with Kuhl that the nation needs to find a replacement for the gas tax. "Perhaps a better way in terms of assessing someone's use of the roads is not how many gallons they use but how many miles they actually drive," said Walden, who is not involved in the study. "A mileage tax could be adjusted over time, as the cost of road construction goes up." With the $895 bounty and an advertising campaign that will start next week, Kuhl and his team hope to enlist a diverse mix of car owners from the six-county Triangle area. Details are available by phone at 866-363-1975 (toll-free) or online at www.roaduserstudy.org. After the participants are chosen and trained, their cars will be outfitted with GPS computers -- the satellite technology that drives popular dashboard navigation gadgets. Over eight months, starting in December, the car's computer will record the number of miles driven in each state, then upload the information to a central billing system. Make-believe taxes Cars will have make-believe per-mile tax rates based on their EPA-estimated fuel economy. The tax rates are intended to generate about the same taxes on miles that the car pays in taxes on gallons of gas. The mileage tax would be higher for a heavy truck that burns a lot of gas, and lower for a fuel-thrifty hybrid. A typical car rated at 24 miles per gallon will have a make-believe federal tax rate of 0.8 cents per mile, plus 1.3 cents per mile for the North Carolina tax, Kuhl said. For 24 miles, that's 31.2 cents state and 19.2 cents federal tax -- about a penny more than the current taxes on a gallon. If the technology works, it could give federal, state and even local governments the option to set different tax rates for different vehicles. Volunteers also will test of public attitudes about a new type of tax -- and about technology that gathers information about where people drive. "Privacy is a hot-button issue," Kuhl said. "People rightly have a knee-jerk reaction about being tracked." The system will only count the number of miles driven each month in a given state, he said. "There's no way these units could be used to track people or determine they were in a particular place at a particular time," Kuhl said. Some drivers will worry about government snooping, Walden said, and that could make it even harder to sell the idea of a new tax. "I don't know if the mileage tax is going to be any better accepted than the gas tax, but I know we have a problem finding money for our roads," Walden said. bruce.siceloff@newsobserver.com or 919-829-4527 http://www.newsobserver.com/news/growth/traffic/story/1245637.html more

Resolved Question: Power of mind vs. Power of Commercials.?

I think if you made a commercial that sold korans as magic books that guaranteed to improve your jump shot and send you to heaven when you die, people would beleive it. Today, in Iraq I had picked up lunch for a local national that was doing work for us. He was a diabetic so I made his lunch special avoiding sugars, lots of breads, and giving him caffeine free diet soda. After his meal I saw him grab a Gatorade from the cooler to drink. That's when I got into an argument with the other American escourts about the power of American media vs. the true value of Gatorade. I argued that it was not good for him or us but we all think it is because of commercials. They disagreed beleiveing it hydrated you with electrolytes. Even after explaining why this was false they still thought it was good for the guy. Every living cell has a sodium potassium (electrolytes) ion exchange pump which regulates the water balance inside and outside cells. Water is attracted to particles (electrolytes) and sodium has a different charge than potassium, so as sodium and potassium will naturally balance out due to polarity water will follow and homeostasis occurs. (Hydration - given they have water.) Thus you do not need gatorade for electrolytes. In fact gatorade has too much "electrolytes" and has a higher osmolar pull thus reducing the amount of water that goes into your body. Not to mention the sugar in it - put in it only to make it sell better. Sugar is a diuretic. (It makes you pee thus making you less hydrated.) Plus, sweat is hypotonic. Contains less electrolytes than your blood has. Fluid loss is more of a problem usually than electroylte loss in hot days, especially for people who eat regular meals. The drink was used on Florida Gators and was attributed to their win, but that was a different formula. Once there became a demand for it they pumped it full of sugar and mass marketed it as a sports drink. Even after explaining all this, the other American soldiers still thought gatorade was good not only for them, but for the diabetic. So, back to my question. Being that gatorade, like the supposid health benifits of cigarettes of yore, is unhealthy but beleived to be so because of advertising - how able are our minds to resist what society says around us even despite rational clearly laid out arguments against the statements the t.v. (society) holds as true?  more

Resolved Question: Is it legal for a HOA to ban the flying of American Flags?

I live in an area with a HOA in Maryland. Recently I was told we are not allowed to fly any flags including American flags from our house. We are only allowed to put a couple of the tiny hand size ones in our gardens. I find this very unpatriotic. I like flying my flag for the 4th and other national holidays. Our HOA also does not allow us to post Security signs in our front yard..."because it's free advertising to the security company" I think that's just one of those dumb laws. more

Ive noticed on a few networks that it is possible to send a email to a mms enabled mobile phone by sending a normal email to the mms "email address" of the phone. Here in ireland, the network, Meteor, while they do not advertise the service, you can send a mms to the subscribers mobile device by sending it to 3538YXXXXXXX@mms.mymeteor.ie (where Y = the national mobile prefix (3,5,6,7,9) and X = the rest of the mobile number) Ive seen this feature as an advertised service of Spain's Telefonica Movistar network, similar situation where you send to a @mms.movistar.es address. I'm interested in exploiting this free service in a program im writing but i wonder if this is a general advertised or unadvertised feature of all MMS Service providers Can anyone in the know answer this? more

Resolved Question: American obtaining work permit in Ireland?

I would like to move from the U.S. to Dublin, Ireland and find a job. I have a bachelor's degree from the University of California and 5 years of profesional sales experience but not anything high skilled or of high demand. Am I going to have trouble finding an employer to sponser me for a work permit? Work Permits: If you do not qualify under the Green Card scheme, you may be able to apply for a work permit if you meet certain conditions. It should be noted that the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment is issuing work permits in very limited circumstances as it is expected that employers will fill their vacancies through the expanded EU. However, if you do wish to seek employment in Ireland on a work permit, you are free to do so. If you find an employer who is willing to offer you a job, then you or the employer can apply for a work permit for that job. The salary for the job must be more than 30,000 euro per year. In certain very limited cases, a permit might be issued for jobs where the salary is under 30,000 euro per year. The employer will also need to satisfy a Labour Market needs test which means they need toshow that they have made efforts to fill their vacancies from within the EU andthat they have advertised the position in the local or national newspapers. more

Resolved Question: If it was YOUR FREE SPEECH Obama was coming to shut down, would you feel differently about him stifling others?

http://abcnews.go.com/images/Politics/Obama%20for%20America%20Letter%20re%20NRA%20Ad3.pdf Letter sent to ABC Obama is an old-fashioned Stalinist. In this letter, sent to TV stations from Obama campaign general counsel Bob Bauer, the Obama campaign, once again, attempts to intimidate television station managers from airing a TV ad by the National Rifle Association. http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/09/nra-firing-away.html Bauer argues, "Unlike federal candidates, independent political organizations do not have a 'right to command the use of broadcast facilities.' Moreover, you have a duty 'to protect the public from false, misleading or deceptive advertising.' We request that you immediately cease airing this advertising." The Obama campaign takes issue with an ad called "Hunter," pointing out that claims in the ad were called "false" by Factcheck.org, and were given three Pinocchios by the Washington Post's "Factchecker." In response, Cleta Mitchell, Counsel to the NRA, fired back in a letter to station managers that the fact checkers in this case are wrong. "We respectfully request that your station disregard the shamefully false assertions from the Obama campaign and its attorneys," Mitchell writes. You can read more of Mitchell's letter at the blog of Ben Smith of Politico, who reprinted it in full. Political speech is absolute. This is another attempt by Obama's NKVD to deny Americans their 1st Amendment "free expression" rights. As you read down the page you will see other instances of intimidation by Obama's NKVD. This is obviously a formal tactic of his campaign. Just imagine what these people would do with the full force of the Department of Justice behind them. Obama's assault on free speech reminds me of how Islam deals with speech it does not like: "Behead Those Who Insult The Prophet." As an aside, the "lawyer letter" is on Obama Campaign stationary. Obama's name in the letterhead is quite large. One can hardly read Biden's name. http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0908/Obama_seeks_to_take_down_NRA_ad.html?showall ----------------- Gov. Matt Blunt today issued the following statement on news reports that have exposed plans by U.S. Senator Barack Obama to use Missouri law enforcement to threaten and intimidate his critics. "St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer, and Obama and the leader of his Missouri campaign Senator Claire McCaskill have attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign." "What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous beyond words, the party that claims to be the party of Thomas Jefferson is abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment. "This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of Jefferson. I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights. The only conceivable purpose of Messrs. McCulloch, Obama and the others is to frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti-civil rights, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism on television, radio, the Internet, blogs, e-mail and daily conversation about the election. "Barack Obama needs to grow up. Leftist blogs and others in the press constantly say false things about me and my family. Usually, we ignore false and scurrilous accusations because the purveyors have no credibility. When necessary, we refute them. Enlisting Missouri law enforcement to intimidate people and kill free debate is reminiscent of the Sedition Acts -- not a free society." http://governor.mo.gov/cgi-bin/coranto/viewnews.cgi?id=EkkkVFulkpOzXqGMaj&style=Default+News+Style&tmpl=newsitemMcCain has only called for Obama to show honesty in registrations, due to ACORN and America Vote! and all the fraudulent registrations. Resolved Question: what's the most successful public relations campaign at the moment?

I think it’s the one that sells us security=McCain. As if this man, whose only solution to every challenge is force, force and more force, is actually capable of bringing any security and stability to anyone. This advertising campaign seems to be a real success at the moment. Isn’t it obvious that his aggressive policies will bring nothing but more insecurity to this country and the world in general, while at the same time depriving us of all the resources that we desperately need for education, health, jobs and to handle the horrible economic situation brought about by the previous wars? This very successful public relations campaign has programmed us to respond automatically when we hear the words security and protection to think of McCain. And most of us seem to swallow it without second thought. And the other candidates seem too afraid to speak in a way that is different from this horrible mindset. Did anyone ever stop to ask what is real security? How does it come about and why have come to the state that we are living in fear and insecurity and willing to give everything to the man who promises to protect us? Do you live in security by using the most powerful and sophisticated tools of death to scare the hell out anyone that doesn’t think like you. Does security mean terrorizing others, occupying them, killing and stripping them of their most basic rights as humans and so creating great security for yourself? Does real security means threatening others? Please think about it for a while. Is that real security, scaring others into submission? That is his plan, do you understand that, people of America? He believes that killing, bombing, torturing and mutilating others is the only way and that will bring security to Americans? That is such an insane and twisted mindset that I don't know if to laugh or cry. Of course you won’t hear those words in the current well-crafted advertising campaign around him, but if you look at what this man is saying through the years, you’ll see that that is what he believes in. If you’re trying to achieve your particular personal (or national) security by oppressing others, torturing, killing and scaring them into submission you are only inviting insecurity for yourself and for the rest of the world because the result of your actions and this force will inevitably be directed against you sooner or later. The fear and animosity that you generate in others will inevitably turn into hate and actions against you. This seems so obvious, isn’t it? Yet most people still believe this man when he says “I know how to handle them Iranians, ladies and gentleman…” and wants to bomb the life out of them as if that will bring us security. What is real security? Please think about it for a minute. isn't it living in a world where people don't hate each other and want to hurt each other, don’t suppress and occupy other people, don’t hold people at gunpoint at their bedroom because they happen to be born at the wrong place? Doesn’t real security mean a world were people are not afraid and are free to pursue what really interests them in life without fear and suppression. Please don't immediately jump and say that this is not the real world. Of course it isn’t. The real world is what we create. We have created this mess that we live in with our own ignorant and vicious actions, and we are the only ones that can start fixing it. You don't bring real security by bombing the life out of everything that isn't American. You must have real care for other human beings and for the planet as a whole. This guy will turn this whole planet into a huge graveyard in pursuit of his security. He thinks that using force (not himself personally, of course, he will draft you to do the fighting) is the only solution. Isn’t it obvious that such an approach will only bring more insecurity, misery and pain to a world that is already in deep suffering. Do you really want to give him power to do that? is that really what you wish for the world? I beg you to consider this before making such an important decision. Resolved Question: How to get people to my website?

I just launched my website this month and am FINALLY in the final stages of completing it. It is a website that lists events all over the country (with an eye for "off-the-beaten-path" types of events). I now have a couple of questions. 1) How do I get the word out about my site? 2) How do I contact event promoters in order for me to publish their event? As of now, I am "crawling" the internet for events to post but I am eager to have my own client list of event promoters. I have already e-mailed the tourism board for each state but I am getting a lot of responses to the effect that they already have their OWN method of promoting events. I want to invest in car magnets for the "moving billboard" effect but I was national exposure. Any ideas? By the way, I'm not looking for free advertising. Like the saying goes, you have to spend money to make money...but now, after working on my site for countless hours & days, I want to start making some money!! :) P.S. My website is www.stateofevents.com more
