Land: Scheduled Quran burning besmirches Christ Posted on Sep 8, 2010 | by Michael Foust NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)--A Florida pastor's plan to hold a large-scale burning of the Quran is "appalling" and does not represent the teachings of Christ, Southern Baptist ethicist Richard Land says. The president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission made the comments Sept. 7 in reference to a Florida pastor's plans to hold "International Burn a Koran Day" Sept. 11, the ninth anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks. The pastor, Terry Jones, leads Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Fla., a nondenominational church that reportedly runs approximately 30-50 people each Sunday. Jones said the event -- which has garnered worldwide attention and already led to at least one large overseas protest -- is an "act of warning radical Islam." "The behavior of this church is not Christian," Land said during an online chat on The Washington Post's website. "I cannot imagine Christ burning any religious texts. This behavior is unfortunately one of the prices we pay for living in a free society with freedom of speech and freedom of expression, even when it is odious and reprehensible. I believe it is incumbent upon Christians across the country to denounce this action by this local church and its pastor to make it as clear as possible that they do not speak for any sizable portion of the Christian faith community in any way, shape or form." Land previously said the church's planed actions are "appalling, disgusting and brainless" and that they "besmirch the reputation of our Savior, and that makes it blasphemy." The planned Quran burning has sparked a worldwide controversy, and hundreds of Muslims gathered in Kabul, Afghanistan, Sept. 6 to burn a cardboard image of Jones in effigy while chanting, "Long live Islam" and "Death to America," according to the Associated Press. Although most Americans may ignore the pastor, the rest of the world won't, warned Gen. David Petraus, the U.S. commander in Afghanistan. "It could endanger troops and it could endanger the overall effort in Afghanistan," Petraus said in a statement. Land agreed, saying there are "elements within Islam which will react violently." "This would feed a cycle of violence in which acts by Muslim extremists would become self-fulfilling prophecies," he said. Open Doors USA President Carl Moeller also condemned the planned event, saying it "violates the command of Jesus to love our neighbor" and "would likely cause Christians worldwide to be more vilified and persecuted." Open Doors supports the persecuted church worldwide. "The burning of Qurans will only confirm what many Muslims believe -- that Christians hate Muslims," Moeller said in a statement. "That is exactly the opposite message we as Christians want to send." Land and Moeller said they are praying Jones will change his mind and cancel the event. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton called the church's plan a "disrespectful, disgraceful act," and Attorney General Eric Holder called it "idiotic and dangerous." Land, though, said the government should stay out of the way. "The only thing more dangerous than what this pastor is doing would be to allow the government to interfere," he said. "This would set a terrible precedent and would diminish all our First Amendment rights. The best way to combat this is to exercise our free speech right to condemn what he is doing in the simplest way and most direct terms." Jones and his church are not strangers to controversy. He has written a book, "Islam is of the Devil," a phrase that is written on a series of signs on church property for passersby to see. The church's website also lists 15 reasons to "burn a Koran." Jones appeared on CBS' "The Early Show" Sept. 8 and agreed that Jesus said to "love your enemies." "I believe that this approach is not the normal approach," Jones said. "But I believe that this approach is at this particular time in history very necessary. We also see times in the Bible where Jesus also got very upset. Open Question: What video card Should/Can I get on my XPS Gen 5 Computer?

I have a Dell XPS Gen 5. I got it around summer of 2005. It has an Intell 955X Express Chipset motherboard with 460 Watts Power Supply(Dell says this mother board can handle upgrade to 650 Watt supply tho). I have 4GB of Ram installed rite now (4 1GB Chips). And currently have a RADEON X850 XT Platinum Edition Video Card. I'm Running Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3, and a Pentium Processor thats running @ 3.20 GHz according to my "System Properties" Window. I believe its a Dual Core pro duo or something like that. I have several Questions but my main question will go first. 1) My comp can't play Star Craft 2, and I think the video Card is the problem. What HD video card should I get that's not to expensive but will allow me to play this game at full Image Quality with no lag. Do i need to get a card requiring the 650 WATT upgrade?? 2) Whats the best video Card I could get on this mother board? I don't no much about this. I assume the board caps out at some point where a better video card is no longer doing anything, so i just wanna know what the best I can get is so I can decide if I should just max out my comps capabilities now. Keep in mind I can upgrade to a 650Watt supply, but please let me know if I really need to. 3) Does this mother board max out on Ram at 4GB or 8GB. Up until just recently I thought it was 4, which is why I bought the 4 1 GB chips to fill all 4 slots and max it out. But i just read a review saying it maxed out at 8GB. Did I missread that or can it really go up to 8GB(4 2GB Chips) 4) Is my Mother board PCI able? Not sure what that means, just know i read PCI video cards are better then the other type. Can i get PCI video Card? 5) In my "Device Manager" under "Display Adapters" it says two things. RADEON X850 XT Platinum Edition RADEON X850 XT Platinum Edition Secondary Does that mean I am running two video cards? Because when I look inside I only see what seems to be one physical card, or is that somehow wired as two? If not, can I run dual video cards on my motherboard or not? So if u've noticed, the theme of this question is what are the specs / cap out points of my mother board. I plan on Maxing out the capabilities of this computer before buying a new one, and I feel like the mother board is the ultimate limiting factor. And I really want to be able to Play Starcraft II at its maximum visual ability (Max Quality and HD) No Lag, and online play is a definite. So What do I need to do for that, and what is the best I can do with the motherboard I've got. Keep in mind i dont know a lot, so if upgrading one thing requires the upgrade of another please let me know (Example: New Video Card requiring New power supply) Thanks a lot, and feel free to only answer portions of this, as I'd be impressed if any one person knows the answers to all of my questions. more

I am looking for a free or low cost live streaming website to do internet broadcasts. My current needs are highlighted below, and ranked in order: -Fluid streaming (assuming a good internet connection). None of that choppy webcam stuff -Easily supports a camera recognized in a USB port -Easily supports audio both USB and in the microphone jack -Adding prerecorded video clips, images, and audio -Multiple camera connectivity (two most likely, but as high as four would be nice) -Multiple audio source connectivity -Ability to bring up tags or labels (such as at the bottom of the screen) in real time (the labels being prerecorded, but using them with live feed) Any website links are very useful. Open Question: Picking a photo editor?

I can't take not having a decent photo editor on my computer anymore! What should I get? Right now I really need to resize some pictures (NOT CROP!) so I can get them printed as 4x 6 then cut them down to 3 x 4.5" once they arrive without losing any of my image. Do I just need to pick up a regular old box of photoshop from office depot or what? I used to be able to resize photos, but this junk I have on my computer now, like Paint, and the free online stuff is USELESS. I don't mind paying $50 or so, I just want to be able to just resize some pictures to get them printed from snapfish so I can put them in my 3x3" frames. I want to cry. Something so simply is so freaking difficult! I did this 10 years ago!cool. I'll try Gimp, if that doesn't work it is $80 for photoshop. I need to reduce the size so I can cut them down with scissors to 3x4.5". It is a project for our dad's but the frame only holds 3x3 pictures and snapfish only develops 4x6. more

Open Question: What are some good & fun "Desktop Toys (Windows)" software?

I remember looong ago, on my cousin's PC running Win98, he got this free program just called 'Desktop Toys'. I've searched everywhere but I simply can't find this particular game/gadget anywhere on the internet. Now, this was WAY before the addition of gadgets/widgets etc etc was considered by Microsoft, Yahoo n others. It basically ran a couple of small animations or Toys, out of a toy box, each one performing a different action upon the desktop image. The reason that I'm looking for this particular app, is that its the only one so far that looked really good. Well, obviously not as rich as the current line-up of gadgets that Windows provides (which I find r a little more on the serious side). Realistic guns and everything! It was much cooler than anything I've seen of the similar sort available online.I can't believe how I completely forgot to mention that I am now, definitely not running Win98 LOL! I have Windows 7 Ultimate :). BUT, I'm still looking for that software or perhaps others like it... once again I'm sorry for such a silly mistake! more

Open Question: Can I convert TIFF image to JPG without any software?

My husband recently did a photo shoot and the pics on the CD he was given are in TIFF format. I need to convert them to a JPG format so I can post them on facebook. Open Question: Should I punish my daughter for this?

My daughter and her best friend were caught with a joint skipping their gym class. The teacher noticed they were missing after they were there in the beginning of class, saw them smoking outside of the school, and sent them to the principals office. My daughter took full blame for the event, but they were separately drug tested and it showed that my daughter was clean though her friend was not. For background, the friend has always been a bit of a troublemaker. My husband and I have been friends with the family, and the girls have been close forever. My daughter is very intelligent, but of course that doesn't mean that she won't be enticed by drugs. The friend was very close to being suspended from school (which means her GPA average will be reduced by a point), and my daughter was simply trying to save her from being punished. It was a loyal act, but somewhat stupid. However, our town is fairly small and gossipy and, if my daughter was caught smoking weed at school, our family name would have a bit of stigma attached to it. And, obviously, she would suspended from school, and her GPA and permanent record would take a hit (which could affect her college admissions). I know this sounds shallow, but "public image" is important where we live. My husband's boss would hear about it and might fire him, or he simply would be passed over for promotions. I don't think she understands the importance of this. While I'm glad she wasn't actually smoking, I'm not sure if she should get away scot-free for this. Hi all. I work in the ad-seg/suicide watch unit at a women's correctional facility which for security reasons uses a strict clothing-restricted policy (aka strip status) for women in the unit. This basically means they are stark naked with no blankets for the first 2 weeks, and can earn back clothing after that with good behavior. While I generally approve of the policy (much greater security, contraband control and compliance incentive), getting inmates accustomed to living in a clothing-free environment is a big issue, even though the unit is self-contained with its own showers and intake and is off-limits to male COs. The cell temperatures are also kept high so warmth is not so much of an issue. Still, many inmates seem to be very self-conscious about their bodies. Anyways I was wondering if positive body image would help in this situation. Some women seem to have almost NO problem with clothing restriction at all, interacting normally with COs and others while in the nude (even while on the toilet) - maybe positive body image is a factor? One thing I noticed was that the women with more visible vulvas seemed to be more self-conscious about being naked. Since I have no control over the policy, I'm just trying to help these women be as comfortable as they can given the situation. Thanks for the help... more

Open Question: Am I slowly approaching a major breakthrough?

For years I have been socially anxious, with a negative self-image causing Body Dismorphic Disorder. I've been all but paralyzed socially for years. I barely get by with others and as such have few real friends. All I have for relationships are ancient relics from the past that I've been constantly resuscitating rather than just accepting that I should just pull the plug. I was very, very hard on myself for all of these failures and as such I've been living a life of quiet misery for years now. The guilt has been constant and awful. But over the past couple of years I have been fighting back and not accepting the critical, harmful, abusive critique of myself that has pinned me down in life. It has taken much time but now my (I'll call it my super-ego) has less control over me and causes me less grief. I've endured a lot of pain, and so my secret goal is to one day live a life free of pain. Things are getting less painful and my thinking is getting clearer, and my energy level is increasing and being used for more worthwhile things. I am working on a manga storyline and just want people opinion on whether it is good or not. The story follows the life of a teenage child solider who is trying to fit into normal society. But he secretly is a thrill seeker and yearns to return to the battlefield. Ironically, his adoptive parents are arms dealers that adopted him only because the arms dealers wife insisted. Due to his adoptive parents connections, he regularly works as a mercenary for anyone from criminals, PMC, secret services to foreign governments and armies, despite his parents scorns in many major and minor conflicts while his family and friends are oblivious to his actions. _Had a hard life as a child solider in Burma at the age of 6, his biological parents killed, forced to commit many atrocities and had the rule of survival of the fittest drilled into his head, but was eventually adopted by arms dealers who payed the corrupt officers a sum of money for his freedom. _He hates his adoptive father because he was the one that supplied arms to the very armies that killed his parents but is loyal and grateful to his adoptive mother because she is the only person besides his real parents that showed him kindness, his adoptive father sees him as another useful customer and gun for hire contributing to profits due to his profession. _He often brings the conflict home due to all the enemy's he makes _Has no idea how normal life works so he wont hesitate to do something destructive (he beat the school bully and puts him in a coma on his first day of school and roots out every school bully) _Story arcs will take place in conflicts of different countries such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Europe, Africa and South America. (major arcs will be about the war in Iraq, Afghanistan and even world war 3 while minor arcs will be about wars in Africa, South America etc) _The story will have a dark tone and show the reality of child soldiers rather than making a romantic image. _He has no value for human life what so ever but does have standards (don't kill defenseless people for they are not worth fighting, don't kill children, only attack when attacked and so on) _He will finally develops Post traumatic Stress and reflects on his actions after becoming a teenage father when he sees his baby son and finally understands the value of a human life.
