Resolved Question: Prom date problems...?

Well here's the story. Prom is next weekend (May 1st), and I had no intentions of going because of lack of money and I generally can find a dozen much better things to do with a date then to go to a dance. Call me weird, its just me. So I was heading to work and my phone got a text message from a girl I've known for awhile, not really close friends, but just peers. She asked me to prom. In a text. I'm not really attracted to the girl, but she's a nice girl (yeah believe it or not, I actually see people beyond more than looks). This isn't the first time either. If I remember right, shes asked me to every major dance (homecoming, MORP, and now prom) since my sophomore year and everytime I had a reason (and usually a valid and honest one at that) not to go with her. So I really didn't know what to say, and was running out of reasons not to go, so I stupidly replied "Sure I could go this time" with a slight feeling of regret after the Message Sent box popped up on my phone. Not only that, but there are motocross races in SLC that me and friend saw advertised last month and were dying to go to but since we couldn't afford it we decided to put the plans on the backburner. The races are the same night as prom. Well, turns out since I'm in Air Force DEP I get free tickets and I found this out an hour after I responded "Sure". So I'm totally stuck. Now I have a date to prom of all dances that I really not that attracted to (from which I mean its gonna be awkward as hell) and now me and my friend are gonna miss out on an opportunity to go to something we were dying to go to because of it. What should I do? Should I continue with the date and go or would it be alright to gently cancel? I think if she had came to me in person or did some cutesy or artsy to ask me out I wouldn't have a problem just because she had to courage, but she asked me over a text to the big dance of the year, which is kinda off putting. Resolved Question: I ask for no sympathy, this is a confession?

Before you read this, please understand that I'm at my wits end. I'm aware that what I did was completely unacceptable and I don't need reminding. What I would like is someone to explain to me what the hell I can do about this. I spent a year getting to know a girl before I eventually asked her out. I had fallen in love with her and within 5 Months she confessed her own love, despite my insecurity and cowardice regarding her friendly nature toward people in general. She then went on a 5 Month trip that she told me about before we started dating. During that time I fell into problems with her work colleagues. My love for her never diminished. I went to the doctors with complaints of mild depression, completely unrelated to her. Unfortunately, due to my mental problems, she bore the brunt of my issues and subsequently suffered the blunt end of of my aggression via our emails and occasional phone calls. In spite of my issues she and I still agreed that we wanted only each other and that when she got back we would work on her having our children. Despite this constant reminder, I repeatedly expressed my opinion that I couldn't trust her. I eventually lost my job due to my issues at work. I told her that it was her fault as it was her friends that were involved. In the end, I broke up with her. She accepted with reluctance and, 6 Months later at the very least, she has understandably moved on. This is probably because shortly after I broke up with her I sent a final email telling her that she was a whore; a tramp and that I was trying to kill myself because of her. I also told her that I hoped that she died slowly. Judge me as you will; I'm a broken person. Please feel free to read that part again. I meant none of it and I was drunk at the time, although that is no excuse as I knew then and know now. She recently bumped into an ex-housemate of mine (a coincidence as he's been here a week), which is the first time I've seen her since she left in June and is also incidentally how I know that she's over our 'relationship'. Her skirt was so short I was shocked I couldn't see her knickers underneath. Obviously, she's advertising her availability. I took the opportunity to apologise, nothing more. She gave me a sarcastic 'thanks' before walking away, which is more than I expected. Anyone blame her? Between her going away and this last meeting she has interrupted every nightmare and waking fantasy I've had. I had an interview with Premiere Productions Inc. for an Event and Wedding Planner position that they had advertised on Craigslist. I was interviewed by one person and she told me that I was perfect fit for the position and company which was odd to me because she hardly asked me any questions about my background and qualifications. The day after the interview I received an email and call from a man named Joshua Komer who told me that the position would require me to pay Premiere Productions Inc. $3500 to $11,000 for their training which they did not mention in their job listing or during the in person interview. Since when do you have to pay a company thousands and thousands of dollars for 12 weeks of training as a prerequisite for a job? I told him that I was looking for a legitimate job and career opportunity. I expressed my reservations and concerns about the costs associated with their training program. Joshua told me that they could assist me in taking out a loan and line of credit in my name to finance the training. He also made it a point to assure me that I wouldn't have a problem paying the loans off quickly because I would be making lots of money through various internships during the training program. If that's the case then why do I need to pay them so much money in advance and why can't they take it out of the earnings I'm going to make while I'm being trained. This fellow Joshua sounded like a used car salesman. I consulted a friend of mine who happens to be an attorney and he told me that this sounds very hokey and thinks that they're trying to convince me to take out a loan so that they get all the money up front and will be in the free and clear once I realize that Premiere Productions Inc. is a fraudulent scheme at which time the only recourse I will have is to deal with both Premiere Productions Inc. and the bank to seek financial restitution. Then Joshua proceeded to tell me that he is currently an Event Producer at Premiere Productions Inc. and was in my shoes just a few shorts months ago, but took a leap of faith and paid for their training program. If Joshua is really an Event Producer, then why is he spending all this time trying to sell honest job seekers on the hopes and false promises of their paid training program when he should be planning events and weddings as he was allegedly trained to do. I asked to speak to his supervisor and I was told that I would be contacted by a lady named Maria Cook. When Maria contacted me over the phone, I pressed her for more details regarding the training and job. I could not get a straight answer out of her regarding how I was going to get paid while enrolled in the training program. Although that didn't prevent her from trying to coax me into trying to sign a contract to pay them $11,000. When I told Joshua and Maria that I would not be signing up for their training program they got very hostile and angry. In addition I kept receiving hostile and harassing emails from them for several days. Is it me or is their job posting for Event and Wedding Planners a good ole bait and switch tactic to get people to pay money to get training for placement into a non-existent job? I have used inumbr for months now. Recently, I was contacted by e-mail, via spamgourmet.com, by a salesman who related my phone number I provided was inactive. I went to inumbr and immediately noticed the website was different. 1st the manage my inumbr option was no longer available. I was prompted to sign up for new account. It would not accept my previous login account. You have to dial your actual number into the site, once this is accomplished you get a passcode from the site, which you provide to the phone call you will shortly recieve from inumbr. You are then prompted to create a new account. I observed that the website advertises the opportunity to TRY inumbr. Once you sign up, make sure you read the fine print. It now states you agree to pay for the service of inumbr and you must provide a credit card. I guess another great free service has went away. Is there another comparable site that provides similar service such as real time call forward, voicemail, do not call option, option to maintain number or let it expire to get another disposable number. It makes me angry that when I work a regular 9 to 5 job, have a college degree making well below what I should be getting, have no health care and can barely afford to pay my rent and buy food each month. Yet we have Americans who sit home and collect welfare checks, government assistance and live on section 8 and they do not pay nearly as much taxes as me or other working class Americans nor do they contribute anything to society. Someone who is blind or is truly disabled, no hands or legs or is mentally challenged, sure, I have no trouble supporting these people. It’s the ones who think menial work is beneath them. The lazy ones. The ones who didn’t finish school because they think are “too cool” for it. No one wants to work for $8/hour, when the minimum wage is about $6.50. But if you raise the minimum wage, how many employers can pay it? They cut your hours back -- and expect you to produce as much, but in less time. And if companies get tax breaks for not outsourcing and create jobs in America - To a company its all about the mighty dollar and It will probably still be cheaper for companies to pay someone in India $5/day vs. here $8/hour with or without a tax break. The household income data was released last week and according to the U.S. Census Bureau, “six of the 10 highest ranking large counties nationally surround the nation's capital” Meaning that the median household income for this area is one of the highest in the nation with the average person making the 6 figures. Someone who makes 6 figures a year is not really feeling the economy hurting like someone (like me) who has been laid off twice this year (its only August people). These 6 figures still go to work every morning with their fancy cars and SUV’s they still pay the $3.80/gal for gas and they are still able to make their mortgage payment of over $2k a month and still have money to go out to nice restaurants and buy new things. So where do I fit? I make less then 30k year, went to one of the top 50 schools in the nation and cannot get a job in my field to save my life (It should not be that hard to find a job in advertising). I am willing to work those mediocre jobs just to get by and to have a roof over my head. Yet no one will hire me for those mediocre jobs because I am “over qualified” or they found someone else that is a better “fit” for the company even though I know I am very qualified and am willing to work the “mediocre” job. Yet I see these people not working and still getting paid. These are questions most people do not have answers for, myself included. How do we compel people to support themselves? If government support wasn't easy to get, harder to prove worthiness, and they were hungry, I think a large percentage would work. But, who really knows? Has our society sunk so low that they would turn to violence and crime to eat? Maybe. That’s bad too. So, we reward violence and laziness? And if we got rid of government assistance and people were forced to look for jobs there would be no jobs out there. Why? because our economy is so far down the drain where companies can not afford to create jobs again for working class Americans. I have no answers. I do think there are no simple solutions. You see it with the section 8s, with the illegals and uninsured getting their primary care (for free) in the ER’s, living for free or next to nothing, not working, and not contributing to society. While I work a regular 9 to 5 without healthcare benefits, not making enough to pay for housing (which is a room for rent) not being able to afford to get milk and bread to eat for a week, waiting on my next pay check. After a while, you get angry about it. What happened to America being the land of opportunities?
