Every now and then I'll ask a question unrelated to B&A. They're for fun, for easy points, and a break from the "I need help" questions. My question today deals with the "I need help"/ "What should I do" questions. Feel free to use personal experience, things that you have witnessed, or just your opinion on the matter. To the question. Have you ever been answering a question and you are sure you've done a good job offering up advice to the person asking (or saw an answer you thought was perfect for the question)? But the asker has either started a fight with the you/person via 'add detail' or out right told them not to answer if they weren't going to help (i.e.- answer saying what they wanted to hear)? (mainly pointing towards people that ask for help on their own stories.) It obvious that some of the young people here need to be taken down a notch; thinking their writing is flawless and when someone offers up a piece of advice that isn't "omg that was wonderful I want to read more" they get offended. This doesn't go for all the young writers, just some of them, I'm not making a generalized statement. Promise.It's a little wordy, sorry for that.D= I said I wasn't generalizing. A majority of the writers I've run into here have been around 14. I'm sorry if it still seems I am. It wasn't on purpose. :\ I guess maybe I should use my words more carefully.A few do. At the top they'll post lines like "I'm only 14, be nice" that seems to be the most common one I've seen...varying a little with the age. more

Open Question: Felons rights when applying for an apartment?

I was convicted of being a passenger in a stolen vehicle almost 5 years ago. I have rented three separate apartments within this 5 year period and have not had any trouble being approved. I have never been evicted and I also have very good credit. Adding something to the situation at hand, I moved out here to southern California to get sober about 4 years ago and have remained sober ever since. I have completely turned my life around and have not had ANY issues/ conflicts with the law since my conviction in 2005. I have worked at the same job for 3 years, I volunteer my free time to charities and I am very active in the 12-step program that I work. All of that being said, I recently applied for an apartment in Oceanside, CA in order to move in with my boyfriend. He rented the apartment almost 2 months ago and as my lease was/ is coming to an end, I then applied to be added to the lease. Like I said before, I have not had any trouble getting approved for apartments in the past and therefore saw no reason as to why I would be denied at this apartment complex. Sure enough, I get a phone call yesterday stating that I am denied only because of my criminal history. I politely asked the representative if there was anything I could do to prove the fact that I am now a law abiding, upstanding citizen and she informed me that she would email me the steps to go about appealing this decision. In the mean time, I obtained about 15 character reference letters, both personal and professional, to start building my appeal. I received her email last night and the only option it is providing is an option to have my application re-investigated. My boyfriend called the front office and she very rudely stated that unless I can prove that their background check is incorrect, there is no reason for me to try to appeal this decision. Does anyone have any knowledge as to whether this is discriminatory or if I have any rights as a renter to actually appeal this decision? Open Question: Would multivitamin tablet with iron, iodine & calcium hurt a person with slight thyroiditis?

5 years ago I had a small episode of hyperthyroid & it switched a bit to hypothyroid, I was on Methimazole & Metoprolol for heart palpitations & 2 balance my TSH levels for about 5 months time. Since I haven't been able to find a job in 5 years time, stress seems to be creating my thyroid to go out of whack and with NO HEALTH INSURANCE & me playing care taker for a relative with dementia has given me even more higher stress issues am wondering how to play this.. I am tired as of late and had my first time w/heartburn 3 weeks (doctor said was from stress) but he gave me loads of blood tests the usual cholesterol and sugar panels all came out normal and by accident all my thyroid panels were added including one panel called => **Thyroglobulin Autoantibodies** which should be at 40 but now its at 2,335. My TSH level is 1.4 which is consider normal range on the blood report 0.49 - 4.670 my T3 level is 114 which is consider normal range on the blood report 79 - 179 my Free t3 is 2.8 which is consider normal range on the blood report 2.3 - 4.2 my Free t4 is 1.12 which is considered normal range on the blood report 0.71 - 1.85 my T7 (FTI) is 2.70 which is considered normal range on the blood report 1.08 - 4.38 and my Thyroid Peroxidase AutoAntibodies is 29 which is considered normal range on the blood report from 0 - 35 my Thyroxine level Toatal T4 is 9.0 which is considered normal range on the blood report 5.1 - 11.1 my T-Uptake is 30 which is considered normal range on the blood report 24 - 35 my Vitamin D level came out to 32 which the range is at 30-100 so doctor told me that was very very low & prescibed I take Vitamin D twice a day 400 I. U. levels not sure what that means but started that 3 days ago.... my Calcium is 9.3 which is I was told in normal range on the blood report 8.5 - 10.5 my Iron level is 34 which is also within normal range on the blood report 25 - 133 Could a person w/slight thyroiditis be able 2 take a multivitamin tablet WITH iron, iodine & calcium? Not asking if I should be on hormone meds cause I'm not going one them and doctor told me to wait 6 months to allow this episode to cycle itself OUT. (mind you I don't eat any fried foods, I don't eat sugar & rarely use salt in or on any of my foods, no caffiene, barely touch red meat and seafood makes me wretch on just the sight and smell of it....veggies I pick and choose what I can digest and dairy is something I haven't had a problem with. this regular clinic doctor I saw a week ago went over my blood tests told me everything in my thryoid panels looks fine and the tiredness is from the **Thyroglobulin Autoantibodies** which should be at 40 but now its at 2,335. He told me to just sit tight for 6 months and NOT use any thyroid medications for now to balance anything in my thyroid area since there is nothing I can do for right now. And with no health insurance for me I'm reluctant on starting up any kind of thyroid medicine cause they make me itch even worse than not taking any. I want to wait the allotted 6 months and see if my **Thyroglobulin Autoantibodies** which should be at 40 but now its at 2,335 will correct by itself. I haven’t been on thyroid meds for 5 years, still not on any as of now either. So between the Vitamin D at 400 I.U that I take now at twice a day and plain multivitamin with calicium, iodine and iron in it the pharmacist told me was ok to take?? Will my energy levels come back to me AT ALL? Will I stop feeling so sluggish? Mind you I have never taken a vitamin in my entire life and I am attributing those blood lab numbers being so low because it was drawn during my menstrual cycle 2 and a half weeks ago. Not sure what multivitamin I could take to supplement my Vitamin D as well??? Can a person with slight thyroiditis be allowed to take a multivitamin I really don't know what to do? or should I look for a brand of multivitamin WITHOUT IRON & IODINE???? Or am I overloading on too many minerals, especially I was told by previous endos not to take iron with thyroid issues of mine for some unexplained reason I have yet to be told of as of why???? Also when my menstrual cycle comes by I get EVEN more tired? And was told stress can definitely cause my thyroid levels to just flare up? I am very confused & really don’t have the money, no health insurance let alone the time/patience to go find an endowhose going to listen to my concerns and not just haphazardly slap me with medication I am not comfortable taking at all in the first place….. are there any thyroiditis patients on here who have allowed the autoantibodies correct by itself without medication??? Please say yes, I trust my doctor but want this tired feeling to go away as well with the multivitamin if at all possible??? Many thanks for reading & answering question more

Open Question: Is it bad to train whilst listening to music?

I am training for the military (British T.A) and I like to listen to music and run to the beat etc when I am doing my workouts, however, is it bad to train with music because when you are doing your real fitness tests or what ever for the military you would be doing them without music, I run along to the beat etc so would that mean that I would run slower without my music? So basically my question is, is it bad to train (for the military) whilst listening to music? I just downloaded Cydia onto my iPod after a year of not being able to find a working download on the Internet. I got all the stuff I had except one: a tweak or widget or something that let you add a password to the apps of your choice. It was free and I would like to get it again but I can't find it on there. Anyone know what it's called? Another question: I also got a cydget that let's you add four apps to the lock screen, it starts with an L. With it came the cydget app. Now, the directions in the cydgets description said to change certain setting in the cydget setting in the settings app, But when I click on cydget It goes to the next screen and when I try to click on the button in that menu it doesn't do anything. Open Question: Corel WinDVD - Capture Stills on free trial?

Small question: Just downloaded windvd free trial from corel, and although I can use the capture function in the program and the images and file names are added to the browser, it seems as if they are not actually saved on my hard drive. I followed the location the help guide said the captures would be saved at, and the "Captures" folder is not even present in that location. So my question is, is this feature disabled in the free trial? Or where can I find the saved captures? As I said, they are not in the documents/users/corel/windvd/capture location. more

Open Question: recovering a eating disorder. help get back metabolism?

ok well, first got anorexia when i was 11. lost alot of weight, went to the hospital and got back to a healthy weight. for the past 6 years its kinda been on and off (never as low as it was when sent to hospital though). BUT now i really want to get better. i don't want to think about it anymore. i have a reason to get better. i am planning to go to a language school in Japan in a month. so i need to get my metabolism back up so i can be more normal and not worry. and when in Japan i am NOT going to be counting calories anymore. but i also don't want to gain 20 or more pounds because im eating more alot more calories (yeah you gain weight be eating more calories but thats why im trying to boost my metabolism so it wont be so bad) so i have been adding 100 calories every 2 weeks for about 2 months now. my mom is helping me (she knows i want to gain weight slowly) and she is making it so if i gain weight we don't add calories that week. and if i lose/stay the same we add more. at first didn't gain anything. then there was a week where gained 8 pounds. and now for the past 4 weeks have checked my weight twice and both times gained 1 pound. i have also been doing 10 min of walking (i know not much) and weight lifting every other day. im hoping to gain most of the weight in muscle. so in these 2 months have gained 10 pounds (little fast for me but im taking it ok). so anyways my questions are...... will my metabolism ever speed up again? if so how can i get my metabolism back to higher rate? do you think that at least some of the weight i gained was muscle? (REALLY want some muscle again) since have heard it take a long time to gain muscle. will the gaining weight stop at some point? (yeah i know muscle weighs alot too. just wondering if will stop gaining weight thats not muscle) i have also heard you gain alot of weight and get kinda "fat" when you recover anorexia. but is there a way not to gain alot of weight? yes some. just not to end up "fat"? will my metabolism ever get up to around 1800 calories a day and not gain weight? what some good ways to get muscle other then dumbbells? and what are some places that would be good to build muscle? (like arms, legs so on) at the moment im eating 1400 calories a day. exercise a little every other day. eat something every 3 hours. drinking more water. (alot) eating healthier. lots of fruit, protein, fat free dairy, kinda meh on veggies, and not so great on whole grain (can't help what parents buy) but still eating bread and stuff. and am just under 5 foot, 90 pounds (yes still trying to gain some weight. aiming to be around 100), 17 year old, female. so any suggestions on how to boost metabolism and not bloat up like a balloon when in Japan is appreciated. thanks!! Hi i topped up on the 12th of august 2010 (last month) and today i saw my free texts had ran out on the o2 simplicity package im on. Im on the 500MB web and 300 texts for £10 a month. today i decided i wanted more texts so i topped up (had no credit either i used it on calls) and i thought that if i topped up, it would reset my web back to 500mb and give me my free texts. So I been driving around a crappy but awesome 2000 focus, and I have kept it running for a long time, but i decided to get a new car. On the focus I tried SRI, CAI, headers, exhaust, fiber hood, ect.... Most was free loaners or i got them dirt cheap from craigslist cause everyone was upgrading. Well now with a NEW 2010 fit, i want to spice it up a bit. I already know i will be getting a SRI, 4hp at 6000rpms is not bad. Put me at a whopping 121hp! Hahah Anyways, for the exhaust with my focus, it was just some cheap generic crap and i don't even know what it was. What are some suggestions or thoughts? I am NOT lookn for "LOUD LOUD LOUD!" I wouldn't mind a nice low RPM hum though ;) And i wouldn't mind it getting loud while 4000+ RPMS. What i DO NOT want it LOUD all the time. I would like it to add some HP from mid-high RPM range. Resolved Question: Ideas on breeds for us?

It won't be for a few more years yet but we want to add another four-legged member to the family when my baby gets to around 3-6 years old, depending on the money situation and if we can handle it. We already have a Chinese Crested hairless (Low energy, currently 8 months), a Border Collie (Low energy, 7 years) and a JRT x Pug x Beagle x Border Terrier (Medium energy, 1.3 years). We have a fairly big house, large garden and the dogs will be getting a walk in the morning (2 when I take the child to playschool, and all will get a run in between when the child isn't home and me going to work at about 10am. When I get back from work (4/5ish, sometimes earlier) the other two will get a walk to the childminder's or my mum/mother in law's (whoever has the child) to pick her up, unless it's too far, then I'll drive. They'll then get a run when my boyfriend's home (Either at 11am then he's home all day, 3pm then he's home all day, or he works 6pm til 10pm. Sometimes he works doubles, but I doubt he will when our child is born) on the field near our house. We're very energetic and they'll get taken out extra if I'm taking my little girl for a stroll, popping down the shop, etc.. They go most places with us. They're also left out in the garden with free run of the lounge and conservatory when we're out. I want another Crested, but my fiance refuses haha. He wants a Husky or Border Collie puppy, but they're so high energy and I've heard of Huskys killing babies because they thought they were squeaky toys? (Correct me if this is the media again) Also please don't suggest the American Pit Bull Terrier as we're in the UK and sadly they're banned. If the American Staffordshire is legal in the UK we'd certainly look into them. We also own birds and rats so a dog with a fairly low prey drive would be excellent. More unusual breeds would be appreciated - I've never seen the attraction in popular breeds such as Labs and Westies. My son will be 2 years old next week (September, 2010). He was diagnosed with autism spectrum around 3 weeks ago, or at least that's what the doctor concluded, based on his behavior. He doesn't have the severe symptoms like others. He actually loves to be around people, and very much wants to play with others, especially other kids. The only symptoms I notice are lack of verbal skills, and behaves violently at times (when he doesn't get his way). Oh, he also has diarrhea on a regular basis, and he has a habit of repeating offenses, such as pulling all the diapers from the box, closing the door, just doing and playing with things that he shouldn't be doing. Not really interested in his toys. I've read many articles about diets being responsible in autistic symptoms. I know that a casein-free and gluten-free diet are the most essential in helping these symptoms. However, my problem is I don't know which non-casein/non-dairy milk to give him. According to generationrescue.org, dairy milk, soy milk, and milk with gluten are bad. I heard that rice milk is fine but there's arsenic in it. Almond milk doesn't say gluten-free or casein free. The only milk I can think of to use is coconut milk from "So Delicious". Problem with that, it has an ingredient called carrageenan. Read some negative feedback on it. I need help finding some kind of milk that will work for my son. I was also thinking of adding some protein powder (something appropriate for a 2 year-old) to the non-dairy milks (since they don't supply much protein other than soy, which he cannot have, according to generationrescue.org, as one of the milks an autistic child shouldn't consume). more

Resolved Question: Last week of summer. Last week of love?

I'm starting school again in a week (yay... ._.) I've had a pretty good summer with my boyfriend of 10 months, but he's been working basically ALL summer with horrible hours, days, pay, and physical labour, and now he has football to add on top of that. I will never leave him. I realize I sound like a 'high school girl" who thinks she'll be with her boyfriend forever, but whatever, I'm not going into that. I will NEVER leave him. But it does pain me to remember how care-free and energetic and different he used to be, and I still love and adore him, it's just a little difficult to see pictures and video of him LAST summer (I facebook creep. Im a bad person :(. ) and he was his usual, peppy self. His ex and I are actually pretty good friends, and she said he was so much fun, etc. and it kinda bummed me out, cuz I've known him for 3 years now, adn we actually dated for 10 months before (he was my first bf, and I his first gf) I really want to just call him on night before school starts saying "You, me, a bottle of JD and the last few nights of summer all to ourselves." and say somthing about how I respect his responsibilities, but that this is the last week of his last summer, so we'd might as well make it count.
