Open Question: What does that song fire flies mean? *10 points!*?

Okay this song makes no sense to me with the lyrics. Like " A fox trot above my head a sock hop beneath my bead a disco ball is just hanging by a thread." Or "Cuz I get get 1,000 hugs from 10,000 lightning bugs as they try to teach me how to dance." It's a good song don't get me wrong just the lyrics throw me off every time I listen to it. I can't ever figure out what the song means. So if you could tell me I would appreciate it.:*) Thanks:) HFM more

Open Question: recommend me your favorite upbeat song?

It's no secret of mine that I phased through the Simple Plan, MCR and so forth just like any other self-absorbed melodramatic kid, b!tching and moaning how miserable life is. But now I see things in a different light, and I think its time for me to listen to sort of music that wont push suicidal people over the edge. Im a diverse guy, all im asking is to post your favorite unaccented beat song, you know something upbeat or catch. The lyrics doesnt have to be positive, it can be bitingly sarcastic for all I care, I just want to listen to something that doesnt make you either choke the nearest guy sitting in front of you or choke yourself. Btw I'm no sexist but I have this tendency to sidestep from bands with female vocalists like Hush Sound, Flyleaf, Paramore... A few examples of things I dig: Hedley- 9 shades of red The Ataris- So Long Astoria Say Anything- Do Better Better Than Ezra- Hollow Panic at the Disco- New Perspective BB Mak- Always know Where You Are Mae- Mistakes We Knew Were Making The Cab- 70's songMarianas Trench- Celebrity Status Melee- You Make My Dreams Motion City Soundtrack- LG FUAD (I know this one is a little out there but its catchy as hell) Splender- Maybe Someday more

Open Question: What has happened to music in our society?

Now you see all of these 'artists' who put out this music that has no message or meaning. It is just electronic beats that people can mindlessly listen to. It seems that lyrics have been thrown away. But not just the lyrics, the quality of music has also decreased significantly. Rap is, well rap, but even it used to have some actual quality. Rock, now it is just Linkin Park clones. "Pop" (what we have today is not really pop) is just auto tuned idiots. Its really sad, think people used to be super enthusiastic about music, I mean don't get me wrong, people still are, but not to the same extent. Think about the Beatles, the crowd that they would perform for were ecstatic. Now its not. It seems that the dumber people get the dumber the media gets. Oh and fyi I'm not some grumpy old coot or even a 40 year old parent I'm 15 and I listen to a lot of music, but the stuff that I here now is hard to even tolerate. I like music that makes me think.Hey to anyone else reading this for some good bands that are new but still have meaning and good music check out Stereophonics and The Strokes. Both are rock music. more

Open Question: I need help remembering a song that has "until we meet again" or something similar in it repeated multiple?

This morning, I heard a song on the radio and all i remembered was that part of the lyrics because for the longest time I've just been remembering the lyrics and just typed it on Google and it worked, but not today. What I'm somewhat sure of, it's not Diana Ross' song, because this was the first entry that came out on Google, so i listened to it on youtube. Also, because i heard it twice on different stations, I'm assuming it's a more recent song that just made it onto a list somewhere, as in top ten, top five or something similar, anyway there was a girl singing, I'M SORRY FOR THE LACK OF INFORMATION I just couldn't find it on the net. more

Open Question: What's the name of the hip-hop song?

I remember listening to a song about 6-7 years ago but I don't remember the name, the artist or any of the lyrics. I only remember the video. It's in black and white, it's a rapper alone in a boxing ring wearing a sweatshirt with a hood. There's a microphone hanging which the rapper uses. It's an old-school rap song with a quick flow. If this poor description rings any bell, please tell me. Thanks more

Open Question: First dance song for a couple that clashes in the music department?

My fiance and I have been together for 4 years. During that time we have kept our music separate, because we like different genres. If we were to categorize it using the Charter television music stations I would be Adult Alternative, and he would be 70's rock. We are trying to find a song for our first dance. We have been pitching each other songs for about a month, and we haven't had any success. I'm looking for a song that has a story in the lyrics, and he is looking for something that is not "Lame." Neither of us listen to country. Any suggestions? I also need a father daughter dance song if your willing to toss in a suggestion for that as well. Note- I've been to the wedding websites, and their music lists are just too corny. more

Resolved Question: conmaps speech. how does it sound?

This is obviously a CD, and it represents my love for music. I’m constantly listening to music whether it’d be on my iPod or the radio. I always turn up the volume of the radio in my car, which really annoys my parents. In fact, it acts as an environmental barrier because I am not able to hear my dad through the loud music. I don’t just listen to music when I’m bored and I have nothing better to do, instead I listen to music for inspiration and motivation. Lyrics to a song say things we can’t express ourselves. Some songs have true meanings, provide you with great advice, and you can really relate to the lyrics of a song. When I’m not looking for a meaning, I might just want to listen to music to clam myself or to lighten my mood. If I’m having a bad day, I just listen to a favorite song of mine, and suddenly, I feel all better. In my opinion, music is a source of relaxation, resolution, and happiness. This is a wooden spoon, and it represents my love for cooking. Ever since I was young, I always enjoyed cooking, baking, and doing almost anything in the kitchen. It was a fun way to be creative. Sometimes my parents would let me help them out in the kitchen when I was young. They would involve me in their cooking. But I think my grandparents were the ones who made me fall in love with cooking. Ever since I was little, I watched my grandma cook Indian food, and she used to teach me how to make certain types of Indian food. From then on, I loved to cook. Even today, if I feel like there is nothing to eat in the house; I rummage through my pantry, asking myself what I can craft out of these random food supplies. I just love the idea of making something new, so cooking allows me express myself freely. Maybe I’d like to be a chef one, and graduate a culinary arts school. But along with cooking comes great food. I love to not only cook but also eat. This is a box. Many people think I’m closed in like this box and they might get that assumption because I’m quiet or I look kind of shy. Probably because I don’t really talk that much with strangers, but once you actually get to know me, I’m a very open person. I can be very social and funny, but I’m only like that with people I know. At first, I might come off as shy or quiet, only because everything is new to me, so I like to get adjusted to new things before I actually start being myself. But in general, most people do think I’m too shy, but a lot of people are like that when they are around people they don’t know. This is my track T-shirt and one of my friends picked it out for me because she knows how much I love to run. I’ve been doing either cross country or track since 6th grade, and I’m currently in Plano Senior track. In 6th grade, my older cousin encouraged me to start running because he was convinced that I’d be a great sprinter. So I gave running a try, and it figures, I really liked it. Then, in 6th grade I realized that running is the sport for me and I’ll be doing it for quite a while. Running is a great stress reliever for me. Aside from taking all honors classes, I need some time to just relax and with running not only am I relaxing, but I am also getting in shape. I’m also very health conscious, and it makes me feel good when I know that I’m in shape. So this is me. And now that I have introduced myself to you guys, you might have found some similarities with me. Maybe you do track or cross country like me, or maybe you like to cook, or maybe you really like to listen to music. By doing this, we can learn more about each other. We can spread some love and stop with the burning hate. By introducing ourselves, not only do we discover new things but we also go beyond what we see and look for what is really important: personality. Twenty years from now, it wont matter how you’ve looked today, but it will matter how you’ve behaved today and what decisions you’ve made today and what people did you meet today. Life is too short to judge people by your own criteria. Go beyond the artificial appearance and actually get to know who’s behind that face. more

Open Question: On a scale of 1-10, what would you rate these lyrics?

I've been coming up with songs for as long as I can remember (I'm 16 now.), I just finished this one a few days ago, let me know what you think :) Everything feels fake. Is that smile even real? You won’t look people in the eye, How long does it take for old wounds to heal? Head down, feet forward, Just keep moving along… You try your best to stay invisible, So no one will miss you when your gone. The way you think is wrong, Try to keep reality in sight. Listen to your heart, Cause your mind isn’t always right. Aren’t you tired of running? Can’t even catch your breath. Want to pick up the pieces, But are there any left? You’re saying everything’s fine, Just to avoid the line of fire… But sometimes it’s the worst thing, To be the best liar. Lost in a downward spiral… Do you realize you’re slipping away? You’ve gone off track, afraid to act… It’s the same thing everyday. The way you think is wrong, Try to keep reality in sight. Listen to your heart, Cause your mind isn’t always right. Aren’t you tired of running? Can’t even catch your breath. Want to pick up the pieces, But are there any left? Laughing to hide, But you’re dying inside… You can’t take the chance. You’re losing your mind. The way you think is wrong, Try to keep reality in sight. Listen to your heart, Cause your mind isn’t always right. Aren’t you tired of running? Can’t even catch your breath. Open Question: Song reversal: does it really work?

Some people have created a reversed version of Obama's theme song "Yes, we can". I just discovered it today. I must admit it is really creepy. Long story short it alludes that Obama is the anitchrist. However it tells the viewer what they are hearing. So I thought I would run a little experiment. Open Question: Punk music with more mature, adult lyrics?

Hey I'm 17 and I've always liked punk music, especially hardcore. Favorite bands are Dead Kennedys, Joy Division, The Clash, Germs, Siouxsie and the Banshees. But sometimes when listening to other punk I get the feeling I might grow out of some of these tunes, just because the issue in my life change and some of the stuff doesn't speak to me anymore. I wanna know what punk bands people still listen to even when they are older, what are your favorite punk bands that stuck even when you got out of high school? Basically, I DON'T want immature, strictly bratty stuff like Sex Pistols, NOFX, and Circle Jerks. I'd like to listen to something much more insightful. Thanks :)Stop recommending lame pop acts like Green Day and Good Charlotte please... Y'all obviously don't understand what true punk is. more

Open Question: Been listening a lot to the Police this week, a great band.?

But it made me think about some classic misheard lyrics. "A year has past since I broke my nose" "Sue Lawley, Sue Lawley" "walking in your foodstamps" What's your favourite misheard lyric? more

Open Question: How come in my teens I only wanted to listen to heavy music, but that I'm over 30 I only like music like?

Elliott Smith? He died rather young, and his lyrics scream out for help, and he sang as good as Anthony Kiedis in a way, but the two cannot be compared because it's a completely different musical style. And his simple acoustic guitar playing really makes every one of his words blend in really well. Am I the only person that finds that Elliott Smith was a musical genius? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4cJv6s_Yjw more

Open Question: Please answer! What do you think of these lyrics?

I've been coming up with songs for as long as I can remember (I'm 16 now.), I just finished this one a few days ago, and I'm trying to get some opinions on it... Let me know what you think? :) Everything feels fake. It's time to pick up the pieces, You can fix what's left... more

Resolved Question: Need help locating a song?

All I know are these few lyrics. I was listening to internet radio, so I do know if it was an unreleased artist or not. But I loved the song. What I remember goes like this " I'm not singing the good girl blues. I'm not crying cause I been abused cause I'll love stronger, but wiser" It had a definite laid back jazzy blues beat to it. I've googling that line to no avail. All I know is that the singer is female. I even forgot which station I put it on. Help. more

Open Question: Do you think that it is a good thing that this song reminds me of my great high school friend?

My cousin just recently bought this DVD at his local retail store and she uploaded it up to you tube to share with everyone, it is a special edition DVD music video. She uploaded this song singed by this Vietnamese Girl and because I'm Vietnamese I understand the lyrics. Suddenly this song reminds me of my beautiful friend who is a Chinese Girl back in my junior year of high school who i had a crush on, It reminded me on Valentine's Day of 2008 I bought her flowers and I burned her CDs of Chinese Songs translated To Vietnamese language and she recognized this song because it's Chinese. She even sang it in Chinese for me to listen and now when I listen to this song It reminds me of her especially this Valentine's Day. It reminds me of the good times we had because we used to hangout all the time at lunch together. She eventually moved away to another county so I have no contact with her, I didn't even had a chance to ask her out. Do you think it is a good thing I've remembered my good old friend ?? I'm 19 years old and It's only been 3 years since she moved away but it feels like a long time ago especially because I graduated and now in college. Do you think it's a good thing to remembered about her ?? Can anyone please tell me what do you think ??? Below is the link to the song that I'm talking about and you would definitely understand it if your Vietnamese. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_lzJyk-7ms more
