Open Question: Can you use the word "depending" without saying "on" after?

My boss tends to act like she is smarter than the rest of us because she just finished her Master's program while the rest of us are still in school (I'm 19 and a sophomore in college). In conversation, she always says "depending," but never says "on" after, and I'm wondering if I'm crazy or if the "on" definitely belongs there. For example, she would say: "Depending how the weather is, I want to go to the beach" whereas I would say, "depending on how the weather is, I want to go to the beach." Any thoughts on this? Not trying to be a jerk or anything; I'm just curious. It's just like the whole drama over whether the 2009 movie "Law Abiding Citizen" was incorrectly advertised the way it was punctuated, and that it should be "Law-Abiding Citizen." Open Question: I cannot function in society, follow a schedule, or deal with authority?

I don't know how to follow a schedule. I don't know how to handle responsibility. I don't know how to manage time or make commitments (other than in relationships). But I wouldn't call myself lazy or unintelligent. For example, I missed over 100 days of high school and almost did not graduate, but when I skipped I would often times read. I love classic literature and I love to analyze things. Then, when I got a car, I'd go exploring and try to learn about different cultures within our city. It's the same way with work. I am always late. Sometimes I do not go. Honestly, it's not the work I mind. I feel like I am one of the hardest workers when I'm there. But I hate having to follow a schedule, and I hate having a boss (I don't just dislike it like a lot of people. I mean, I really cannot deal with it.). If I could come and go as I pleased and have the freedom to make changes when I was there, not only would my work excel, I know the business would excel because I have so many ideas I want to carry out. That is what wears me out most: my imagination. I don't normally enjoy bragging, but for the sake of this post, I would have to say I've met few people would were as creative as me. I feel like there is never enough paper to write my dreams on, never enough Google searches I can do, etc. Many people have told me that I'd make a great entrepreneur. I'm obviously highly independent, so the risk/freedom wouldn't scare me. Also, I may seem to have a lack of motivation in some areas of life, but when I do decide to do something, I DO IT. I am the most stubborn person, but it helps me accomplish my goals. My biggest passions are new experiences, innovation, and people. I would truly care about my customers and what they wanted/needed. Thing is, I know I need formal education, more finances, and more experience before I can make my dream come true. And I don't know how to do those things because to do them, you have to be able to function in society and I cannot. I actually love people. I'm very sensitive/inuitive and feel like I understand people very well in most situations. But I CANNOT work with them. Also, when I have managed to follow a schedule for A WHILE, I feel extremely confined, like I am literally locked in a cage, and become severely depressed. I don't know what to do! What is wrong with me?! Please help! By the way, I'm 18 and going away to college in the fall as a strategic communication (writing/design for advertising) major. more

Voting Question: which one of these sounds more like you?

when it comes to your taste buds are you the type of person who likes the same kinds of foods and drinks as most people or do you have more unusual taste buds? example: most people prefer flavors that have been around for a long time. their favorite soda is usually pepsi, coke, mountain dew, dr. pepper, 7up or root beer. while other people prefer stuff that's most likely not advertised on television and some people might not have even heard of. soda flavors like sunkist cherry limeade, peach nehi, tahitian treat, or baja blast mountain dew. which one of these sounds more like you? p.s. i don't know why but i just thought i'd use soda as an example. more

Resolved Question: REFERRALS? freebiejeebies?

Hi! Id really appreciate it if anyone would help me to gain more referrals for freebiejeebies! Its an advertising site where once youve completed the three steps they send you a free item, such as an iphone or ipad! the item you choose will require you to get a certain number of referrals depending on the value of it. for example an ipod touch 8gb requires 8 referrals. to sign up please use the following link: http://apple.freebiejeebies.co.uk/299786 ive put some more information about it below from my experience and from the actual website: HOW IT WORKS: 1. All you need to do is sign up (you only give details of age, email, name and address - so product can be delivered to you). 2. And then you simply complete an offer from the list shown after signing in, the most popular is Lovefilm.com as you only need to do a free trial and you can cancel before it ends so you do not pay a penny. (You do not have to do an offer from the link given on freebiejeebies, you can open a new web page and it will still work.) 3. Once you have completed an offer, you then have to refer friends to do the same. Once your friends have also done the 3 same steps as you, you will be given your free gift. *** I have done the offer myself and got an Ipod shuffle - It definately works! I didnt trust it at first, but after looking around and hearing from others it works i decided to give it a go. You do NOT need to give them any credit card details as the gift is FREE and you do NOT recieve any spam. Freebiejeebies recieve their products brand new in original packaging. Support from the website: Is this real? It most certainly is. It's an advertising scheme to get more people looking at some of the offers which we are affiliated with. Basically, when a user completes one of the offers on our site (e.g. LOVEFiLM) we get paid by the advertiser. This way, we can cover the cost of your free gift and still make a small profit. A lot of TV programmes and magazines have featured this sort of advertising, including BBC and the Wired magazine - so you can feel confident that it is genuine. For more proof please visit eXceem, which is a forum dedicated to the UK's Freebie Scene - www.exceem.co.uk Proof it works: Why not visit eXceem. eXceem is an independent forum where people discuss all aspects of freebie sites, such as ours. You can still get a gift from any of the freebiejeebies sites. All you need to do is obtain 3 extra referrals in addition to the number required for your chosen gift. Resolved Question: Why are people against smoking Marijuana?

I myself have smoked before, however I have not touched weed in about 6 months give or take. When I smoked I would go from a week long binge to having a dry spell for a couple of weeks. I smoked for a total of about 2 years and I never had any issues with my responsibilities, like school for example. I actually kept a 3.6 GPA and I never tried any other drugs except drinking. So, personally I find no issues with marijuana unlike what many people will tell you (It makes you stupid. It leads to harder drugs. It takes over your life. It's addictive.). Now I will rant. Ok, so I know it's addictive. I'm not going to deny that. However, it's certainly less addictive than something like cocaine or even caffeine. And yes, caffeine will cause withdrawal symptoms not unlike nicotine withdrawal. While marijuana can cause psychological dependence, marijuana does NOT have any physical withdrawal symptoms. I had absolutely no issue when I quit, and I only wanted to smoke for about the first week. After the first week I have no longer felt any desire to smoke up, except for the fact that I occasionally just want to wind down and enjoy myself on a joint. Now, the government has a completely legalized industry for alcohol, which by the way messes you up MUCH more than marijuana. And I know that you people who have never tried marijuana often find this very difficult to believe, but just ask your self this. Have you ever seen somebody get so high that they were too dizzy to stand up and walk straight? Have you ever seen somebody smoke up and then puke their guts out all night from weed poisoning? No and no. marijuana will simply chill somebody out or get their heart racing. It depends on the strain, but in either case, nobody is overdosing or seeing double. That's saved for the completely legal alcoholic drinks that are advertised all over the television. Also, marijuana has never killed anyone. And I mean anyone. Of course, you can say that people will get into their cars and crash, but have you ever thought of how people get into their cars and crash all of the time, while they're completely sober? Besides, there are studies that have shown marijuana usually makes somebody a more cautious driver and getting high is equal to about a .05 BAC (.08 is the legal limit for alcohol). Now, I'm sure that some mom is going to come on here and talk about how because of weed their kid does heroin or whatever. I don't know how this myth got started, but I believe the number is something like only 1 out of every 30-40 people who have tried marijuana will go on to use any other illegal substance. And from my own experience, the only people who actually went on to use heroin or coke actually talked about that BEFORE they ever tried marijuana. No joke. Most people understand the consequences of hard drugs and see what it can do to a person's life, and so they stay away. It's that simple. I think that my favorite myth is that marijuana makes you stupid. Right. How about you go tell that to my formerly A.P. student friends (now off to college) which would get SAT scores up in the 2000s. Yea if that isn't proof enough right there, here's something else for you. Marijuana has not been proven to kill any brain cells. In fact, studies have shown that it actually STIMULATES brain cell growth. I **** you not. It only takes a quick Google search. Now when people say that marjuana will take over your life, I believe that they must be referring to the far and in between cases where people actually did let marijuana take over their life. What those same people don't realize though is that they probably know loads of people that smoke weed, or have smoked weed, but that never let it take over their life. The thing is though is that you will never hear about it because that's just not something you would talk about with a co-worker or a neighbor. Most functioning people can handle smoking a little bit of marijuana once in a while, the SAME WAY people can have a beer or a glass of wine every once in a while. Now, my final point, which is probably my most important is, what has a marijuana user ever done to you? Nothing, that's what. And it's because somebody who smokes weed is not going to need it like somebody who snorts coke. It's just not in any way addictive like that. Nobody is going to mug somebody else because they're killing for a nickle ($5 dollars worth of weed). However, you probably could get mugged by somebody because they need their fix of crack. In my eyes, people who reject marijuana users are just plain tools that they think they have a duty to protect a society that knows more than them. If you people want my advice, go educate yourself and stop letting yourself be influenced by all of that propaganda you thought was the truth. You really said health concerns? Really? Obviously completely ignored my post. And yea I'm sure it way to painful for you to try and read something about a plant that is in the process of getting LEGALIZED. Prick.Oh and I don't care if you don't feel like reading my super-post just so long as you don't say something as stupid as "health concerns?"to Kris, I don't know what that guy was smoking, but it wasn't weed, I can tell you that. Not even mushies would made you suddenly come down to find yourself surrounded by guns. Sounds more like he was smoking some wet, which is weed dipped in PCP. more

Open Question: How can I get a finder's fee or commission from the seller of FSBO real estate?

My friend wants to sell their house (in Maine) as a "For Sale By Owner" (FSBO), rather than listing the house with a real estate broker. She wants me to help her find potential buyers, and would like to pay me a finder's fee or commission, in the event that I have introduced her to the person who ends up buying her house. I am not a licensed real estate broker or agent, and I do not want to run afoul of real estate broker/salesperson licensing laws. How can I legally do this? Some possible ideas that come to mind include: 1 - what if I am her employee - can I then receive a commission on the sale of the property? 2 - (how) can I set up a company, partnership, corporation or LLC which would receive a commission without having an officer or employee of the company being a licensed broker? 3 - (how) can I receive a commission on the sale of a property for performing other work, for example, by providing advertising, printing, web development, building rennovation/contracting or similar services, without being a licensed broker? 4 - apparently in the State of California it may be legal for the seller to pay a "finder's fee" commission to someone who helps locate the buyer - do other states allow this? What do you have to do to avoid crossing the line into territory that is reserved for licensed brokers and agents only? 5 - is there any other way that I can receive a commission from the seller of a FSBO (for sale by owner) property without being a licensed broker or real estate agent?More info: The answer below that stated, 1, only if she is a licensed broker and you are a licensed real estate agent. does not seem to be correct, because Maine statute Title 32, section 13002, "Exceptions" states that "real estate brokerage does not include the following: 1. Transactions by owner or lessor. Transactions conducted by any person who is the owner or lessor of the real estate, or to their regular employees with regard to the employer's real estate, provided that: A. The real estate transaction services rendered by the employee are performed as an incident to the usual duties performed for the employer; ... So that would seem to permit me to accept a commission for assisting in the sale of her real estate as long as I am her employee and primarily perform some non-real-estate related work for her. more

Resolved Question: Does anyone know a free website that makes songs using words from various famous songs?

We had an English assignment to make a board game and advertise it. My friend made Product Mania. She made an advert on the computer which had lots of random videos and a backing track. The backing track was a song which went "product mania is fun for the whole family, the best game in the world!" or something like that, using snippets of other songs - for example, the "world" was from "We Are The Champions" - all strung together. She wouldn't tell me the website, but gave me a clue - it was free and she typed in "something like 'words to song' on the internet". I tried this but it doesn't work. I wondered if anyone knew such a website? Thank you very much for your patience in this badly-worded question! more

Resolved Question: Who else thinks the Marie Stope advert should be banned?

I personally disagree with abortions, however I do respect that it is the individual's decision. BUT I strongly disagree with these "Are you late?" adverts being aired-we all know abortion is there as a last resort, but shouldn't they advertise condoms and morning after pills more? If people didn't use the pull-out method, and kept an eye on what's er...happening..for example check the condom hasn't broken-if it has go get the morning after pill! Voting Question: Does anyone know who puts the advertising leaflets along with the monthly credit card statements we receive?

From time to time, in our monthly statement envelopes we receive from our credit cards or from mortgage companies, there is a small double sided advertising leaflet size: 6”3/4 and 3”1/2. For example, last month I received in my mortgage statement, a leaflet that was selling me labels that I could personalize for envelopes. I am working for a small non-profit organization and we would want to use the media to bring awareness about our non-profit organization. We have contacted several credit card companies and the people we got on the phone have no clue about who puts the leaflets in the envelopes that are sent out. It could be that there is an outside company that is outsourcing the entire mailing process and they would also be the ones who include the advertisement. If you would know how the process works or if you work with that kind of business, please let us know who to contact for sending out this kind of leaflets for the non profit organization. Resolved Question: Where is the line drawn with product placement in the UK?

To explain my question, in the UK there's rules to product placement in TV. For example a character in 'EastEnders' couldn't guzzle a can on Red Bull. In 'Coronation Street' nobody shops at Tesco (always the fictional supermarket). But, then again there's freedom for people to drive round an array of cars. I mean, if a brand new Mercedes-Benz in featured on TV, then that's product placement, isn't it? And in sports, there's brand logos around the side of the pitch (in the case of football) and logos behind players when doing interviews. Perhaps someone working in advertising would be able to tell me. So, if anyway understand how it works and cares to explain, please do! Thanks in advance! more

Resolved Question: UK: Should we buy goods from "celebrity" endorsed products.?

For some time now I have become very cynical of C I P. It seems we must buy whatever they are pushing just because a "Celebrity" is fronting the advertising./marketing. Then Id wondered if the Celebs actually used said endorsed products. It transpired not. il give you a few examples. Quite a few years ago a famous fast food company used a red and white clown to advertise its "meat products" yet he was allegedly a vegetarian. And I think, a British model once linked to the actor Richard Gere was said to use a face pack/moisturiser using honey and rock salt or something similar yet endorsed really expensive cosmetics, Then there is the footballers now wife advertising a "green" budget-supermarket - does she shop there with her millions ? what about the young cocky chef singing the praises of local butchers yet is now " the face of" A well known "orange" supermarket - which brings me on to a recent M&S "veteran model" caught shopping in the same "orange" supermarket - a rival. and finally a comedian with the initials AG once advertising "Identity theft" precautions warnings. Yet Journalists managed to rummage through his rubbish and find complete bank statements bills etc etc all un-shreded - completely at odds with the advert he was fronting. In this case why should we believe what Celebrities advertise. It sounds like they "take the shilling" but that's about it. Its all a farce. more

Resolved Question: Are retail store return policies legally binding, esp. in Canada?

Hello, I've recently got in a debate about store policies in respect to returning purchased merchandise. I can understand that a store would have to take back something that isn't as up to par as advertised (spoiled milk, for example), but the situation I'm wondering about is if a child/teenager used his parent's money/card to purchase something expensive (eg, $200.00 shoes), could the mother come back in a fit demanding that she got the money back? Even then, what if the child used money given to them as a gift, but the parent wants to set a good example that they can't blow their money on such a thing... could the mother come in and demand they give their kid back the money - despite the return policy saying that they don't do refunds? mind you, this is if the shoes are not tried on... still in the box. thanks :) more

Resolved Question: Do you think hybrids are a viable alternative?

I wrote a persuasive essay for English a while back and I thought it'd be appropriate to post it somewhere on the Internet, so why not Y!A? :D Anyways, I can't find my 4 or 5 sources anywhere but will edit them in if I find them. Tell me what you guys think...once I get the sources up you can check my internal citations :P Hybrids Are Bad for the Environment Hybrids are all the craze nowadays and the car companies are selling them under the impression that they are the ultimate in green car technology. They have an advertised MPG, or miles per gallon, that is much, much higher than gasoline and diesel fueled cars. They emit fewer greenhouse gases while running which contributes to the slowing of global warming, the natural heating of the Earth which can be intensified due to higher than normal amounts of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Finally, they use less gasoline because of the MPG which will save the precious gasoline supplies in the world. But are they really that eco-friendly? Hybrids use Nickel-Cadmium or Lithium-ion batteries, Cadmium and Lithium being extremely rare in large quantities. The processing of the nickel in preparation for battery making releases copious amounts of sulfur dioxide into the air, which causes acid rain, which will destroy the ecosystem for miles around the nickel plants. Hybrids also advertise 19 MPG higher than what the realistic MPGs of hybrids are, and the precious gasoline that hybrids are using less of, will run out about the same time the precious minerals used in the hybrid batteries run out at current rates. There are also hybrids that plug into the wall, and of course that makes the emissions out of the car less, but the emissions from the coal being burned in 70% of the United States is much less clean than the gasoline and diesel fuels. Hybrids should not be developed further, as they are as destructive to the environment as gasoline cars are, as they use precious minerals in their batteries, cause acid rain around the nickel plants, destroying ecosystems, not saving them, and burn coal instead of gasoline for power. The best alternative for the most eco-friendly car is a clean diesel car with the PZEV, or Partial Zero Emission Vehicle, option available at many dealerships. The batteries used in hybrids destroy ecosystems around the mining and processing plants and the precious minerals used in hybrids will run out at about the same time as gasoline. Will this really solve the problem? The batteries in hybrids, in an example of the Prius batteries, made in Sudbury, Ontario, cause acid rain. According to Impact Lab, “[t]he acid rain around Sudbury was so bad it destroyed all the plants and the soil slid down off the hillside” (Prius), and with more and more companies creating hybrids, more and more battery processing plants will be made, causing more and more acid rain due to the copious amounts of sulfur dioxide emitted during battery processing. Not only do the batteries destroy the ecosystems around the plants, “after maybe 100,000 miles, the battery starts to lose its ability to charge. Tesla Motors performance figures even state that after 50,000 miles, the batteries will only perform at about 70% their optimal, factory level” (Why). What does that mean? That means that after 100,000 miles the battery will have to be replaced, and the used batteries cannot be recycled, and thus just go into landfills. And if you want optimal performance, you’d have to change the battery every 50,000 miles. The average gasoline car can be used until nearly 300,000 miles before ultimate failure with minor repairs, which is 4-7 batteries in a hybrid. And you have to remember that, according to Four-bits.com, “lithium… is pretty rare in large quantities. With projected increases in the use of lithium, the known mines would run out about the same time as oil” (Why). This makes hybrids just another quick fix that won’t fix the problem with the environment long term. Many hybrids are being converted into plug-in hybrids which plug directly into a household wall socket and charge via the coal-burning power plants that provide electricity to 70% of the United States, and coal emits many more greenhouse gases than gasoline does. This means that “coal-burning plants could be even worse for the environment than gasoline-burning engines…” (Hybrid). And even in the green-powered electricity states, such as California, Jim Motavalli of The Environmental Magazine quoted that the “ACEEE concluded that a plug-in version of the Toyota Prius could reduce CO2 emissions by a third over a conventional Prius hybrid, but only if its batteries were charged with California electricity — generated mainly from relatively clean sources. In the Midwest, dominated by coal-burning power plants, the report says the plug-in Prius would actually generate one percent more carbon dioxide” (Motavalli). California being the strictest state in emissions standard, this is a rare case of hybriThanks for your rebuttal :D I spent about 5 hours digging through all the pro hybrid stuff to get to this con hybrid stuff... I still dislike hybrids (I'm a fast car guy, not a fuel efficient one) but I was not aware that the sudbury (spelling?) was cleaned up... anyways, thanks for your rebuttal, I convinced my whole english class that hybrids were bad (including my hybrid-driving teacher) so now I have the actual facts. I'd still rather ride a bike to be fuel efficient. :P more

Voting Question: Can a company say the have the best product without any recognition for it?

Can a company say the have the best product without any recognition for it? For example, Budwiser is know as "the king of beers." But in 1950 they were actually awarded that title. hypothetically, if they were never given that title, would they be able to call them self "the king of beers?" Or is that just a matter of opinion by the company. Also Gray Goose vodka says they have "the worlds best tasting vodka? Is this false advertising is they were never given that title by award, or is it just a matter of opinion? more

Voting Question: I'm unwilling to annoy potential or existing customers, so what marketing perspective is best for me?

My reason for needing to own my own business is the need for integrity. Most of the companies I've worked for have perpetual integrity issues, including their marketing methods and perspectives. I do Geek Squad-like tech support, and I have a recipe for success, other than a somewhat 'beatnik' attitude towards marketing. My current marketing plan includes: -Business networking meetings -Being prepared to describe the benefits of using my services -A concise Website with free training and well-considered SEO -Pens, pads of paper and other useful items with my logo for existing and potential customers -A Facebook page for my business -Submitting to typical advertising venues like Google and Superpages I'm planning on putting some money into advertising, but I'm concerned that my complete unwillingness to 'bother' customers could make for a very slow start. Examples of what I consider bothersome (but seemingly necessary) practices include: -Nagging customers (on the phone, specifically) to allow me to finish projects/do needed maintenance -Forcing promotion of my business into casual conversation Any tips, books, or Websites you're aware of in this regard would be greatly appreciated. Most of the existing materials out there aren't geared towards people like myself. more

Voting Question: Seen UK top 5 broadband rip-offs? & how best to deal with 'em? What do you think is the best deal? How 2 beat?

I put this in Politics as Govt promise to roll out superfast broadband Is there a corrupt angle? UK's top broadband rip-offs, together with a few ideas on how you can combat them. 1) Super-fast broadband You might think super-fast broadband sounds amazing. Lightning-fast deals via next-generation fibre technology allow you to surf the net at more than 5 times the usual speed (50Mb). Unfortunately, however, super-fast broadband generally comes with a much higher price tag than packages with standard connection speeds. And I think, at £40 a month, providers are ripping us off - especially when you take into account a 8Mb package with a 10GB usage limit can cost less than £6 a month. The fact is, unless you need faster speeds for things like watching internet TV or downloading HD movies regularly, these packages probably have far greater capability than you really need. If you're not a heavy user, paying the higher monthly cost is a waste of money, frankly. 2) Restrictions on download limits Many broadband providers boast of unlimited download limits, only to accompany these bold statements with a little asterisk which, on closer inspection directs you to a fair use policy that restricts the amount you can actually download. Fair use policies are often a get out of jail free card for providers which advertise unlimited download limits, only to impose penalties or other restrictions if you exceed a certain threshold. And, to make things even more complicated, finding out about your own download habits can sometimes feel like trying to break into Fort Knox. For example, when I called my own provider to ask them about my usage, I was only told that I ‘need not worry'. This ambiguous phrasing may make little difference in my case, but in some circumstances you'll only realise you've exceeded your fair usage limit when you get a warning from your provider – or worse, when a hefty bill lands on your doormat. If you want to gauge your surfing habits, this data usage calculator from Virgin is a nifty tool which will give you an idea of your own monthly usage, which you can then use to get the best plan for you. Alternatively, providers Be and O2 offer super-fast broadband with truly unlimited download limits. 3) Broadband without a landline. If you move into a property without a BT landline in place, it will cost you £124.99 to connect yourself to the outside world, plus £10.50 a month in line rental, unless you commit to an 18-month contract. If you don't fancy forking out all this just to get connected, one alternative is Virgin media which, providing you live in a cabled area, will connect you without the need for a BT line (£30 connection fee applies). In addition, some providers such as Tiscali make use of local loop unbundling (LLU) to bypass BT and offer inclusive line rental. LLU enables ‘local loops' (or put simply, the cable through which you receive your broadband) to be freed up so other providers can design their own broadband packages to provide alternative, and often cheaper services. The third way you can get connected to the internet without the need for a BT landline is via a dongle . Dongles provide a convenient way of getting online, though from experience provide much slower download speeds than conventional broadband. Check out my latest article on dongles . 4) Tag on the line This is one of the sneakiest ways broadband providers can stop you from switching easily. They put what's known as a 'tag' on your line, which is difficult to remove. When you run into trouble, they often point the finger at your landline provider, who then points the finger back at the broadband provider, and so on. What many people don't realise is that you have to talk to the provider you want to switch to and ask them to remove it. Luckily, Broadband Choices offers a handy list of numbers on its website to contact with regards to having a tag on your line. 5) Long contract terms Last but not least, contract lengths for broadband, and indeed your mobile phone are slowly creeping up, and these days you'll often have to sign an 18 and sometimes a 24 month contract in order to secure the best deals. However, there is light at the end of the broadband tunnel, and if you don't want to be tied into a lengthy contract, you could always opt for a provider which doesn't impose one. For example, you can now get one-month only contracts from providers like Plusnet and Zen, which enable you to switch at any time. Obviously, your broadband service is unlikely to be 100% perfect, 100% of the time, but hopefully these small tips will help you on your way to a smoother surfing experience. Voting Question: I can never find a book that interests me?

Take the crappy books that are "Best-sellers", for example. They are full of overly contrived plots, biographies of people I don't give a shit about, EXTREME left-wing agendas, and just overall WOMAN stories. It seems like this is what 99.9% of books are. The only ones that partially interest me are the Sci-Fi/Fantasy genre, but considering I've read most, if not all, of the actually GOOD ones out there (Martin, Asimov, Wolfe, etc) I don't have any left to read. Seriously, plots like this DO NOT interest me: "Complications ensue when a wealthy Wisconsin widower in 1907 advertises for a spouse." "Twin brothers, conjoined and then separated, grow up amid the political turmoil of Ethiopia" "An insightful Lab-terrier mix helps his owner, a struggling race car driver." "A man whose daughter was abducted is invited to an isolated shack, apparently by God." more

Resolved Question: What would you do an original commercial about?

For a public speaking class, I'm supposed to write a commercial about an original product (or an already invented product with an original brand name). For example, a friend of mine is doing hers about a DVR-like program for the radio. Does anyone have any suggestions for a product I could advertise? (to a group of 10 high school girls) more

Resolved Question: Do you think it is possible to find two dat sets?

A) Do you think it is possible to find two data sets such that the first data set has a smaller range but a larger standard deviation than the second set? If so, give an example of two such data sets. If it is not possible, explain why not. B) A company advertises an average of 42,000 miles for one of its new tires. In the manufacturing process there is some variation around that average. Would the company want a process that provides a large or a small variance? Justify your answer. more

Resolved Question: If you had the chance, would you do this?

My family and I are leaving for Bermuda in the morning, and one attraction we've been mulling over is going horse back riding along the shore. I'm not so sure I want to do it though... There are so many cons. -For one, I won't be able to see my horses for five days after I get back if I make contact with one there. -There's always the huge possibility that it won't be anything like what's advertised. The horses could be malnourished, for example. -It's not stated on the website if it is absolutely mandatory that you're led around...obviously I don't want to be led. Haha. The pros: -Once in a lifetime experience. -Amazing scenery -Family outing doing something we all enjoy. In my eyes, the cons outweigh the pros; but if you had the chance, would you take it? Have you already done it? If so, did you enjoy it? Thanks! What I mean by my first con is that when I go through customs at the airport coming home, they ask what animals you have been in contact with while in the other country, and whatever animal you were in contact with, you cannot have contact with for five days in Canada. It really sucks. :( more

Resolved Question: Does anyone know how much companies spend advertising a good deed versus the amount they actually give?
