Open Question: Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force, vs Master's Degree?

If you can make it through the novel and give me suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate it. I graduated from college, with a BS in Biology. I got accepted into MS programs, but unfortunately there wasn't enough funding for a TA position, so a Master's degree is not an option without funding. The jobs that I am qualified for pay around $1400/month. My student loans payments easily take up more than half of this pay, if not more, and I cannot afford much after the student loans. For example, health insurance, car insurance, etc and don't want to choose between necessities. (I live very frugally) Currently, I am examining whether to try and reapply for school in the following fall or look into the various armed forces? I would just like some outside input, before going to talk to recruiters, colleges, again. Option 1) Search for an entry level job and apply for graduate school in the fall of 2011. CONS: No guarantee that I would be able to get funded, again Student loans will be delayed 3 more years, adding interest Be around younger, immature college crowd for 3 more years. Many jobs in biology require a MS, so I will still be at "the bottom rung" when I get out. If I did get funding, I was told it is very little and most students take out loans for health care, etc. More debt. Option 2) AF/Navy/Coast guard. I am looking for a change in pace, purpose if you will. I don't mind traveling, love meeting new people, etc. I am disciplined, enjoy structure, and thrive in a team setting, enjoy physical activity, don't mind demanding hours, and can wake up at 5am :) I also don't want to take things for granted, and think the military would help with that. Also, no criminal background, etc. PROS I can earn tuition assistance, and pursue a MS, most likely online. It would be different experience than just getting a master's, and I would have real-life experience I couldn't get while in school. Also, the Navy pays for college loans if I go enlisted, although I am more interested in the right job as opposed to money. (Also, benefits such as health care which I couldn't afford other wise) Questions... How hard is it to pursue a higher degree (MS) while in each of these forces? It is improbable to think I could earn a degree while I am on active duty? I am interested in science/lab/research/conservation/protection etc. and was wondering the different opportunities offered? (I looked into oceanography in the Navy, MST in CG, and AF scientist) If I chose not to make a career out of Navy/CG/AF, how hard is transition back into the civilian world? Will my military experience help me in finding a job/career after I am out? (I have noticed during my job search, there is a lot of preference for veterans) Any various pros/cons in military life? How difficult is getting into the Coast Guard? How difficult is being an Officer in the Coast Guard? Is there a difference between being an E-3 in the CG as opposed to other branches? I know it is the military, so danger is inevitable, but how dangerous is it, on average? (I don't have any children, but I do have family and they worry.) Treatment of women in the military? Basically, I am trying to look 5 to 6 years into the future. If I go back to school, I will get out with more debt, and no job experience, just another degree. If I go to, say the CG, I can possibly get a degree and 4 years of experience or even come out debt free if I go into the Navy. I could also get experience that “corporate America” couldn't offer in each of the forces, but they are a very big commitment. Anyone in the same “boat”? more

Please have the president tell all the Mexican people to be extremely nice and never say critical things about me or my family, or about the strain we might place on their economy. 14. I want to receive free food stamps. 15. Naturally, I'll expect free rent subsidies. 16. I'll need Income tax credits so although I don't pay Mexican Taxes, I'll receive money from the government. 17. Please arrange it so that the Mexican Government pays $4,500 to help me buy a new car. 18. Oh yes, I almost forgot, please enroll me free into the Mexican Social Security program so that I'll get a monthly income in retirement. I know this is an easy request because you already do all these things for all his people who walk over to the U.S. from Mexico. Open Question: Thinking of swapping to an LS-Series engine, can it be done?

I got a job so I can finally start working on my car. First thing that came to mind (besides painting. we're getting that done for free) is the engine. My 78 Nova has the stock inline 6 & while I thought it'd be cool to build that up, I found out it has the integral intake, so it'll cost me more than I'm willing to pay right now. I was thinking about going with a 350sbc or a 383 stroker since there's not too much of a difference. But since the newer engines are pretty beastly power-wise and getting easier to come by, I was wondering if you could swap one in without all of the electronics. I know you can go from EFI to carbureted, but what about the ECU & everything? Thanks for any input. more

Your turn ;) Rainbow Bridge by Ashlyn Valentino Charlie flew through the front door of the townhouse calling grammy’s name, he took a great picture with his digital camera of this blue bird attacking the neighbor’s cat on his digital camera. Bam! The front door slams against the wooden bumper on the wall as he cavorts down the front hallway. “GRAMMY!!!! Heeyyy Grammyyy!” he blares. Maybe she’s out back in the garden? Jogging through the kitchen Charlie notices the back door is open and squints outside as he skips through the doorway KABLAM…. The screen door, or what is left of it, buckles and pops out of the track as the screen rips out of the frame. “Ooh Charlliieee! Are you ok??” Grammy frantically projects from the back of the yard. Charlie’s straightens his cockeyed coke bottle glasses and rubs his head, but feels lucky he held onto the camera by the wrist cord. His eyesight hasn’t been what it used to be. In 6th grade Charlie was diagnosed with acute stigmatism and the doctors said he will probably be 80% blind by the time he graduated high school in about 4 years. The only real hope is if somehow gets eye transplants. But with grammy’s social security a sole source of income, and limited healthcare, he would have to make do with really thick glasses. For now he spent his summer months taking pictures and playing in the giant oak tree in the empty lot across the street. Which just so happened to be there even back when grandpa was growing up in this neighborhood. And just before he died, he build a treehouse for Charlie in that tree. It was so high up he could see out across the neighborhood over the rooftops! Especially if he climbed up on the roof of the treehouse and climbed out on this one branch that arched upward, grandpa used to say it was the arch of the rainbow. A rainbow bridge to the heavens. It’s been 2 years since grandpa passed away. Last summer Charlie built a special platform at the peak of the arch in honor of his grandpa. Charlie held his head in a stunned dramatic pose as grammy gave him the once over looking for blood. “Anything broken?” “Ouch, just my ego” “Well come on inside and show me your pictures while I make you some lunch” Mom was in a car accident and died a year before grandpa. Her and her boyfriend were killed New Years Day. I never knew my dad. Mom said he was a freebird and moved out to California. Or was that free … loader… I can’t remember. Either way, I don’t remember him. After lunch grammy told me to go up to the attic and get bring down the big fan since she heard that morning on the Today Show that there was going to be a heat wave hitting the Charlotte area near where they lived. So I wandered up to the second floor hallway and grabbed the rope hanging down from the ceiling. Down came the steps leading up to the attic. And up I went, clicked on the lightbulb cord and felt the heavy stuffy humid air suffocate my lungs. Found a crate, opened it up, oh there’s a cape, let’s try it on, pretty cool, must have been grandpa’s. Let’s try it on shall we? Charlie buttoned it around his neck and immediately felt like a super hero skipping down the stairs with the fan, into the kitchen, oh my gosh he noticed he can see! OK, where to go from here. Open Question: Injunction and Domestic Violence case, no proof of violence, what to do?

I live in Florida and recently filed an injunction against my ex fiance'. We were together 2 years, separated for a few months and then I ran back to him for another 2 years. He was abusive the entire relationship, between sexual, physical, and mental/emotional. I have been nice to him since I left him the last time (about 2 months ago). We have a child together and since we were never married he has no rights to our son. I have been letting him see the child twice a week, because I feel he at least deserves his father (Mine didn't care about me at all). He has been extremely verbally abusive and threatened me when I did meet him to exchange our son. I am terrified of him hurting me again, or doing something to my car, or hurting our child (he doesn't see him anymore except what the court ordered). The last time I met with him, he followed me around for 30 minutes and I got to the police station. He ran inside before me, because I had the baby, and accused me of following him! The police seemed to believe him, although if they looked at the actual facts, they would know he's lying. I also had my new boyfriends child with me who told the police what happened. Anyway, that day I got the injunction filed and was awarded a temporary injunction. We go to trial in a week to make it a permanent thing, or extend it, etc. I never filed anything against him for domestic violence because I had no phone, no car, and was not allowed to contact anyone the majority of the time. Then I just kept quiet when I was with him the second time until I finally got the strength to leave. I wish I hadn't been so stupid. Anyway, how do I prove to the court that I am afraid of him due to his violence? He is extremely manipulative, so I'm afraid he'll convince them I'm lying, like he did the police. The court also gave him every weekend with our son and one day during the week temporarily and I don't want my son with him this much. I am afraid for him also (he called him names, threw toys at him, laughed at him when he was in need, and yelled at him for crying or screaming). I want supervised visitation, and no overnights because he is breastfed. I have never gone to court for this sort of thing before, so I don't know what to do. I found free legal advice, but they just briefly told me what to say and how to act. My ex will try to make me look like a horrible person (I've left him many times because of abuse but kept going back because of low self esteem, guilt, fear, etc. and make it look like I left him for another guy (not true I started dating a few weeks after I left him). He's an air traffic controller so that makes him look good, but he manipulated the system to get through. Any advice for the trial would be VERY helpful!!! Thanks again... more

Open Question: shaking left front tire on ford taurus.?

i noticed on the way home from class that there was a thud sound in the left front tire. got worse through out the day. as soon as the car gets to a set speed or as soon as it hits 60mph or im not accelerating anymore theres just a vibration through out the car, obviously from the front left. similar to if i was running over those treads on the sides of a highway that warn you your nearly off the road. but not so intense. i noticed its louder when i was going slow through the drive-thru. and around 20mph. it squeaks on each tire rotation when going slow. like the squeak of styrofoam. and makes a clunk noise on each rotation as well. estimated cause of problem and cost of repairs? (in NY state. car is year 2000) other info: bearing was replaced around christmas. can there be a warranty? car was just recently inspected for its 200,000 mile check up and new tires were put on and rotated and all that. final summation was that the car could get another 200,000 on it before it croaks. its really in good shape. but we suspect its the bearing that was replaced around christmas. maybe they did a crap job or got a defect part? but not sure. im going for a free inspection tomorrow to get it checked as i dont need to be driving and then be missing a wheel suddenly. i hope for a few other opinions as i know next to nothing about cars and dont wanna get f**ked over. thanks! if you need anymore info for a complete answer just ask. i'll do my best. more

Resolved Question: Anybody who owns or has owned a Cadillac?

I would like your advise as to the value and quality of a used Cadillac and if these cars seem to be worth the money. #1 1996 Eldorado in Ex. condition with 130k miles black with black int. tint on the windows and a fresh air conditioning charge for $2800 or #2 2000 Cadillac Deville DTS 115k miles fully loaded NAV / touchscreen stereo and new tires for $3800 Both are rust free Arizona cars. I would just like to know if these cars are well built how much it is to maintain them, and things like that. would it be a good first car or a 2nd family car? more

Open Question: 2007 FORD FUSION problems: anti freeze a lil low. put some more in there. later chk engine light came on. took?

car to auto zone for free chk. said cold thermostat problem. told him bout antifreeze being low. he said that could be problem.have someone disconnect negative cable to reboot that light n make it go off. we did that. light went off . and hadnt moved or cranked the car at all. Later i crank the car to leave and the car turned (trying to crank) but didnt crank. The third try it crank but not sounding like it normally does, it idle smoothly while stationary, but when you hit the gas it doesnt rev up, the petal to the metal does nothing. when u put it in drive it creeps forward slower than a snail but put in reverse backs up just fine like it always does. (crazy) my car doesnt have an actual cable that connects to the gas pedal b/c the mechanic cant find one car maybe too new.(when i say mechanic i mean this ol guys that works on cars in the neighborhood not a true professional he is good with what he does BUT dont know much about newer cars) ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE more

when you buy a new car, does the dealership provide the new numberplates? or do you have to do this yourself? also, when you do buy a new car, what must you do by law as far as dvla are concerned? ive tried to search this online on direct.gov and its useless! also, if you already have insurance is it easy to transfer it to your new car and how long does it take? and finally, if a dealership insists that you take out this '3 day free cover' from their own dealership even though you have your own insurance, do you go with it or is this just them trying to get you onto their own insurance? thanks a million x more

Think of TVP as a multi-platform library where everybody can come in and checkout things, use them, and return them for free. Once people can have access to things 24/7, they don't need to hoard and own materials, which is a kind of burden. Otherwise, we'll end up with closets full of shits, which we'll lose interest someday and throw them out. We can have personal belongings such as foods, clothing, house, craftsmanship, artworks, etc that we can keep or give away as gifts. Just as having too much children is a kind of burden, hoarding possessions of properties is also a burden. Take the most common example: vehicles. Do you want to own a vehicle that needs to be purchased, clean, fix and serving regularly (like today)? Or do you want a city with built-in transportations (either train, car, elevator, or conveyor belt) that are fast (traffic jam free), safe (with auto-pilot, radar, and sensory device installed), maintenance free (drive back to repair centers automatically), and best of all, free? Why are we weighting ourselves down with possessions? Just to show how distorted and selfish we are? We can live in cities where people will share and have access to sports instruments, books, entertainments, foods, housings, and much more. This type of environment can be seen as new generation, multi-platform library. Many people will fought this new idea, just as they had on women’s right, minority’s right, and book library that most of us taken in granted. This is how backward we are. more

The reason it was been expired because I was jailed for 2 years for car accident because of blood money which the car insurance did not pay for it. Open Question: Car Subwoofer: Free-Air vs. Enclosed?

I have a Toyota Avalon 2003 and my factory woofer got blown. I got an after-market subwoofer (same size: 8") and I don't think its free-air. If I replace the factory subwoofer with the after-market without any enclosure, would the speaker still work? The factory speaker is 26 Watts. The after-market one is 400W. I don't plan to use an amplifier. Also, electrically, it shouldn't be a problem right? They both have similar impedance(3.7 Ohm for factory and 4 Ohm for after-market). I understand that I won't be able to run the new subwoofer over 26 Watts. more

Open Question: 15 Year old son took car for a joyride and almost killed someone!?

Me and my husband were going out for the night, and we were just going to do dinner and a movie. Well while we were halfway through eating, the kitchen restraunt caught fire, so we had to clear the building, we were so shocked by the fire we just decided to go home, and skip the movie. On our way home, about five miles from our house, i see my brand new $32,000 car on the side of the road, with an ambulance and cop car. We quickly turn the car around, and it was my son with his 2 friends he picked up. Turns out he was doing speeding and almost hit a kid on a bike, the kid was able to jump free, but my son still ran over the bike, so he almost killed someone. The child had to be transported to the hospital because he was in shock. And my car sustained $3500 worth of damages (it dosent even have the license plate yet its that new.) On top of that, the cop impounded the car for 30 DAYS!!!! He just turned 15 a few weeks ago, so no he dosent have his learners permit. And he left me and my husbands 2 1/2 YEAR OLD SON HOME ALONE LOCKED IN HIS ROOM! I want to ground him for the rest of the year, and home school him, he cant even go outside, watch tv nothing! I am so mad I dont know what to do! He's also living with his grandma until we can figure out a punishment, because i honestly think his life was in some sort of danger, with how mad my husband was, hes mad about the car im mad about my baby, because he could have started choking, or someone could have broken in, Based on the situation, how should i punish him? Open Question: How can I exercise with long commute & young kids?

I just went back to work after 7 months of unemployment. Jobs are scarce in my industry, and I had to take a job in the next town over. My schedule is now: 6:00 a.m. wake up, dress, breakfast, laundry (fold dryer items, move items from washer to dryer & start new load) 6:45 leave for work with carpool 8:00 start work 5:00-5:30 p.m. leave for home (when all in carpool are ready to go) 6:15-6:45 home for dinner with kids & husband 7:30 or so, dishes & kitchen clean-up with kids, play with kids, help with homework or whatever 8:30 Kids start getting ready for bed 8:50-9:00 Family prayers, bedtime story, lights out 9:20 or so, housework, time with husband, catch up on personal e-mail, laundry change over (like in a.m.) 11-11:30 Bedtime for 6.5 or 7 hours sleep I do not want to give up any time with my kids because they are young. I do not want to give up any time with my husband because I'd like to keep him around. I can't afford to give up any sleep, especially when it's my turn to drive the carpool. I thought about using hand weights in the car pool when I am not the driver but there really isn't enough room in the other vehicles. I brought exercise bands to keep in my desk, but I don't have any privacy to use them (all glass walls in our interiors here, except for executive offices. I sometimes have a half hour at lunch for free time, but I have no privacy to work out with hand weights. I can take a brisk walk around the office park when the weather is good, but that's only 30 minutes, and it's just walking. I can't really work up a sweat because I have no way to clean up afterward. On weekend mornings I can still get up before the kids (while my husband is still at home) and get in a walk/run with the dog, but it doesn't feel like enough. Any suggestions?My kids are 6.5, 8, and almost 11 -- way too big for strollers & I do dance with the 8 yr old, but it's never long enough to consider it a work-out. Open Question: My car shakes when started and when stopped and sometimes she does stall!?

I own a 1992 Nissan Sentra XE, automatic transmission, 1.6L 4 cylinder. I have had her for a little over three years now. She is shaking real bad when she is started and when I am stopped at lights or stop signs. She also has a hard time shifting it seems like and she has a hard time going after she has been stopped. Sometimes she stalls as soon as my foot touches the pedal. And I do not slam down on the pedal. If I had to guess I would say transmission but I am not sure. She has been doing this for at least 6 months and I have tried numerous things to see what it is. I will be honest, in the fact that I have not always been able to have the oil changed when I should have had it done but between that and paying rent, I need some where to live. I have had the spark plugs and wires changed, my tires checked and they are rotated and balanced on a regular bases (I get it done for free through Discount Tire), and a new fuel filter. I do not have an owners manual for my care but have looked online for any information that I could find. My grandmother thinks that it might be a motor mount. I agree that that could be a possibility but what about her stalling when I try to get going after stopping. And that doesn't have anything to do with her stalling. She also gets shaky around 45-50 mph and stops at about 60mph. Also if anyone knows when the mileage reader turnsover on a 92 Nissan Sentra that would be great. You see when I bought her she had 12K which I know isn't right so I am trying to estimate what her approximate mileage is. If the mileage gauge turns over at 100K, 200K, or etc.? Open Question: Fast cars under 15,000?

Im thinking of buying a new car within the next few months and I want something that is decent on gas when driven conservatively but can still run with more expensive cars. Not that I want to beat a GTO or camaro off the line but I'm looking for something that can do 0-60 in under 7.5 seconds. My price range is 15 grand and so far I've looked at civic si and I liked that especially the gas mileage, I also test drove a neon srt-4 which was way quicker than I would have expected I was also looking at nissan 240 and volkswagen gti. I'm leaning towards the neon so far but can anyone who has owned these cars or knows about cars point me in the right direction and feel free to mention and models I didn't include that fit into my needs. Here is the break down -Cost of the 2010 Hyundai-$17,845.00 - Final Cost down to -$14,000 -Dealer paid one of my last two lease payment-(291.00) -Dealer fix my lease car to return for free( Estimate cost $450.00) -Got an APR @ 3.90% down from 4.90@ -Rebate $2,500 When i got to the Finance office, it was a different story, they told me since i got the car @ below market price that i HAD to buy other stuff: - Lojack for life-$807.00 -Maintenance and repair for life-$850.00 Final amount finance amout $15,402.00 @ 282 per month for 60months. I intend to pay about $331.00 per month to pay off faster and not give them anymore than i have to . Also when i do my taxes i am getting back about 80% for a new car purchase back. So there's this guy, I met him back in November..(Let's call him Jake). Me & Jake knew about eachother for 2 years, but never really said anything to eachother. Jake had a girlfriend when we met, but after the first time we met, he always kept asking me to constantly hang out and go out places with him and his friends, and it was kind of annoying. But, Jake's girlfriend (Let's call her Jess) absolutely HATED me because I was always with her boyfriend, and Jake was constantly ditching her for me. They eventually broke up around December, and Jake told me liked me (I wasn't surprised), and after hanging out some more, I started to like him. We had a thing going for about a month, until this one night (Late January/Early February), Jake's bestfriend told two of MY bestfriends that he was seeing his ex-girlfriend again WHILE me and him were seeing eachother, the next morning my friends told me and I texted Jake right away, and he never answered me, so I just said screw it and went on with my life. But then Jess added me on Facebook and MSN and we started talking about everything, and we became friends. But after about 4 weeks later, her and Jake went back out again, and I didn't really care. A few months later, in early May they broke up. But she found someone else new right away, so she didn't really care.. and I was dating someone else, too. But in mid-May me & him broke up. So after I logged on Facebook, and I saw that Jake messaged me on Facebook, and he asked what happend with me & my ex, and I just said things didn't work out. And Jake started to apologize for what happend and that he wanted to try to be friends again, and of course I said sure, and he suggested we go on a walk to talk things out. We talked on the walk, and we just had a lot of casual conversations. But then we got onto the topic of the past and he started apologizing. But when I got home later that day, he confessed that he still had feelings for me.. and I didn't know what to say, so I said "oh." then he asked me when the next time I was free. So the following week we hung out with a few friends, and me and him walked off and I guess we started to have a "thing" afterwards again. He told me he never meant to hurt me before, and that he promises he won't do what he did in the past to me again. We've been going strong ever since today. (I'm on vacation on the other side of the world at the moment, so we can only talk through MSN until I get back home in a few weeks, and we barely talk because of the time differences.) Jake hangs out with a girl I never liked (Let's call her Sarah). Sarah ALWAYS writes on his wall on Facebook with hearts and what not, and he never replies her. And this one time, Jake and his bestfriend were to pick me and my bestfriend up to go the fireworks downtown, but they were late because they were out at a restaraunt. And when they pulled up, we saw Sarah in the car. We ended up not going to the fireworks, we drove around for a bit and then dropped Sarah off at home. I was really upset, and Jake kept asking me what was wrong and I said nothing.. I confronted Jake about her several times, and he ALWAYS tells me that he could care less about her and that it's his bestfriend that is always asking her to hang out, and that he would even tell Sarah that he doesn't care about her IN FRONT of me. And I said okay. But today, Sarah messaged me on MSN, and she said "Hey, do you not like me or something?" and we went on from there, she told me that Jake's "liked" her for a few months now, and how they've kissed and what not, and she said whenever she asks Jake about me, he says that we aren't seeing eachother or anything remotely close to that. I haven't talked to Jake yet, but me and Sarah plan on meeting up with him together so we can ask him what the hell is going on. But, I need some serious opinions. I play this game in my head a lot when I am bored, alone, riding in a car or waiting or something which I call "Elimiation". How I play is.. Step One - I think about my life right now, the things I have, the people I have relationships with, things that have happened and the choices I have made. Step Two - I eliminate a componant in my life like an object, person, situation/incident or a decision I made. Step Three - I think about how my life would be different without that paticular object, person, incident/situation or choice. Step Four - I back track and start elimiating objects, people, incidents/situations and choices that I would have never had/met/happened/made. Usually I go back about 5 years maximum. Step Five - I fast forward with my new life and see where I would be right now at this very moment without that object, person, incident/situation or choice. What do you think of this? Do you/have you ever done this? Is it weird? BQ - Do you play any kind of thinking games in your head? Example of another mind game: A friend of mine has this kind of video game character in her mind that evolves and grows as she does. Voting Question: Can I sell my car if the loan hasn't been paid in full yet?

A car dealership offered me about $3000 lower than what I owe, which means I'd have to come up with the remaining $3000 to pay if off. But apparently I can't sell until the loan is paid in full, right? Is that what's meant by a clear title? The title has to be free and clear in order to transfer it to someone new? I know this seems like a silly questions, but I've only owned a car for just over a year, and now that I'm unemployed I can't keep up with my payments. Voting Question: Engine ticking sound?

I have a 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis GS that has only 32,000 miles on it. It hasn't been used since 1999. Last year it was started back up and taken to get an oil change (after doing the oil change after about only a few miles the oil was pitch black and thick), however their was a weird noise coming around the engine. While idling every 5 or 6 seconds you hear a metallic ting coming from around the engine around the top, and sometimes the ting doesn't occur for a minute or over. However when the engine is revved the ting gets louder and sounds almost like a loud pop and I can feel the gas peddle vibrate a little but the interval at which the pop occurs doesn't get much faster.Also when the engine is running and I have my hand on it I can feel a small vibration every time I hear the ting. Its almost like theirs a tiny piece of metal inside the engine thats being rattled around or the sound of a broken belt that is flapping and hitting something.The noise only occurs when the engine is on regardless id the a/c is on or off and the noise seems to be coming directly from the engine or somewhere extremely close to it.I also notice when the engine warms up on idle the sound greatly decreases in volume and the interval between ticks greatly increase. Other than the sound the car seems to drive fine and the engine appears to run fine I took the car to a friend to look at and he said it sounds like a a problem with the rods and the engine most likely has to be rebuilt or replaced. Last year I thought maybe the noise could be coming from a valve or a lash adjuster or rocker? Now im wondering what you guys think or if the problem could be anything else? I have a lot of free time on my hands and wondering just how difficult something like this could be to repair without getting a new engine or if this would be at all feasible? What exactly would I be looking at doing if the problem was with the rods? I really wouldn't like to sell the car and get a new one. Also what oil weight and type would be best recommended? Everything you buy that has to do with microsoft from pc, xbox 360, zune etc. in just a few months it get messed up, and one has to come out there pocket. Or you have to add money in to it to use it. Voting Question: Why are there so many used Hondas exported from New York to Georgia?

I'm currently in the market for a used Honda Accord. I've came across quite a few on Auto Trader with free carfax reports that show the vehicle was driven in New York, sold at auction, and now it's for sale at a dealer in Georgia where I live. Is there anything unusual about vehicles that are bought at auction from New York and are brought all the way down to Georgia for sale? Maybe I'm just being paranoid about this, perhaps it's something as simple as a large demand for Honda's down in Georgia but it seems like an awfully long way to transport a car. If it were only a couple Honda Accord Carfax's I'd chalk it up to coincidence but I've came across what seems to me as an abnormally high number with the original owner in New York. more

Voting Question: Is a 1997 Ford Thunderbird going to be reliable for me?

I need a car to get to and from university next year, my grandfather has offered to give me his 1997 Ford Thunderbird, its the V8 one. It has 100,000 miles on it. My friends say to just finance a newer used car so I don't have to worry about it breaking down, and I would get better gas mileage. My thinking is, sure its an ugly car, old, and sucks gas, but for free, I should run it into the ground and if it breaks down I can always take the bus (although inconvenient) for a week until I can work out getting a new car. If you would like to leave some constructive criticism or leave a few suggestions, I would appreciate it. I have a prologue and 6 chapters already written, but I'm just going to share the first chapter for now. Ch.1 I jolt up from bed, eyes streaming with tears and body shivering with chills. I try to catch my breath as I heavily pant, noticing that the surrounding temperature is so cold that I can see my own breath. I finally calm down enough to look over at my alarm clock and see that the time is 6:27. Thirty-three minutes until first period starts. I collect my myself, brush my teeth, get dressed and run downstairs to see my mother at the dining table, reading the "Texas Times Newspaper" and sipping on her black coffee. "Addi?" she said "Addison, there are some waffles in the microwave and fresh milk in the fridge." "Oh, okay mom, but I'm really not that hungry right now and I'm going to be late." I said my mother looked up at me with worried eyes ans said "Addi, you really need to eat something. This is the second day in a row that you decided to skip breakfast and I'm beginning to worry about you" "Mom...I'm fine. i'm just not hungry right now. I'm not starving myself or purging my food or anything, so lay off! I'll just get a bagel at school or something." My mom massages her mocha colored temples and shakes her head at me. "Addison...just please eat something, especially since your field trip is today. The last thing we need is you collapsing in some strange place because you decided to skip breakfast." Sick of her whining, I grabbed a waffle and my car keys, shoved the waffle in my mouth in front of my annoying mother and said "happy now?" and left before she could answer me. I slid into my silver Neon Plymouth, turned the key in the ignition, and headed down the street toward my high school. As I was driving, I couldn't help but think about that reoccurring dream from last night that was all too familiar to me. I am seventeen now, but ever since I was twelve years old, I would dream about her. The beautiful, golden-haired woman in the red prairie dress. She was always running, always putting the iron box into the hollow of the tree, and always apologizing to her baby. My dream has always been the same.Always. But who is this woman? Who is that child? And why I dream about her? I was trying to make sense of the whole thing when Mrs. Del amour's golden retriever, Sandy, ran out into the street. "Oh my God!" I screamed. But there was nothing I could do. I closed my eyes, with my hands gripped tightly on the steering wheel, tingling like crazy.I have never experienced anything like this before. It felt like my hands were falling asleep and I was losing control of the wheel. The strange sensation was spreading throughout my whole body and there was nothing I could do about it. I kept my eyes closed, thinking the worst had happened. I waited to hear the crunching sound of Sandy's bones, but i heard nothing. I cautiously opened my eyes to see Sandy in my rear view mirror, perfectly fine. "I don't get it. She was right in front of me." I said aloud. And she was. Sandy was two feet in front of my car and I know that Sandy couldn't have made it out alive, with the speed my car was going at, yet I couldn't explain how she had survived. This was definitely all the weirdness I could take right now, so I dissmissed the dream and the car incident from my brain for the time being. But really, how did sandy survive? I'm sorry that it's super long. I just have a lot of detail that I can't leave out because everything happens for a reason.I said people didn't like it please don't leave HARSH comments, like "you suck". Constructive criticism is welcome, but rudeness is not. This story is about a 17 year old girl, named Addison Tanner. Every night she dreams about a woman in a red prarie dress and has no idea why She later finds out how she is connected to the woman and how that connection ties into her life. She goes on a class trip, discovers that she is different from everyone else and gets teased about it. the anger from the teasing triggers some genetic abilities within her that results in a tragic accident involving her classmates and herself, yet she survives. She has no idea why she survives, so she seeks answers from her "dead" father's ides of the family who happens to be fundalmentalist mormans (she is biracial-black and white) whom she has never met. She then learns secrets and the truth behind the woman in the red dress. That's what I have so far as far as a summary.Ahh..sorry I have a lot of mistakes in my summary...I'm rushing right now. But I meant that she finds her father's side of the family.Sara- I understand what you mean by the conversation about the waffle not being that important. The waffle really isn't important, but I'm trying to show how the main character and her mother can get into arguments about anything and how these arguments push her to explore the other side of her family and cutting straight to the chase in a story can be confusing to readers of they don't have any background at all. Trust me, the dream is probably one of the most important parts of the story and i undertsand that a reader might noe get that now, but remember, this is just one chapter out of the story. more

Resolved Question: Getting my diploma and license. Please help?

So I did not get my diploma on time, (I won't go into the details), and I am working on getting it now. I just need to finish this class online, but it's a history class and it's so dry and so boring, it's just hard to get motivation when I could be doing something I enjoy. I've tried telling myself, "Okay, if I do this and get it done, I will be happier and feel a sense of achievement. This is so worth it. I can just move onto college after this." But it's like, I tell myself I'll get it done, and I never do! It's frustrating and I feel like I can't even trust myself sometimes... and that can be a real let down. Also, I got a car last summer and I got it for free - that says something, lol. It broke down, needless to say, and I couldn't get another one. My step mom would take me driving only because my dad made her, and she would always be rude if I made a mistake, this really cut down my confidence. She made me feel stupid. And my dad talked meanly to me as well. I mean, hello! A new driver isn't going to know everything. It doesn't COME second nature, it takes TIME! Anyways, my step mom told me I would have to pay car insurance even if I didn't have a car - which is such a lie. My dad was being a door mat as usual and never stood up for me. So, I never got my license. I'm at the point now where my permit just expired, and it's like I'm back at square one. It's pathetic. When some of my friends that are 16 are getting their license, I feel pretty sucky. I want to once and for all get my license and get my diploma. Also, even though my dad let my step mom kick me out (he wasn't even home when she started attacking me), he wants to be in control of MY own money that I've made from working. Also, how does he expect a kid to graduate when you kick them out two weeks BEFORE graduation? Everyone that heard about it has told me they think my dad isn't making ANY sense. Anyways, my dad put my money into gold after he took it out of my bank account - I allowed him to do this. But now, it's like, I can't even get my hair done without having to go through him and I think this is just ridiculous. I recently just got money back from a college I decided NOT to attend this next year - I am going to get back $4,000, I believe, which was ALL my money that I worked for over a few summers. Do you think it makes sense that my dad thinks he can let his wife kick me out, yet control me still? I'm 18, and when someone kicks their kid out, they shouldn't expect their kid to let them control ANY aspect of their life. I'm getting fed up with my dad, and I'm starting to wonder if I should separate myself from them. How can I take the steps to get my permit again and then my license? If my permit expired, like the ID I got for it, does that actually mean I have to take a permit test over again? What do I have to do to get this to happen? I just want to be an independent young woman. I've always wanted to be able to rely on myself - my mom always relied on a man because she never had a job and I always told myself growing up that I wanted to be the exact opposite. What can I do to help myself, get the motivation and strength, and empower myself? No stupid answers, please. more

Resolved Question: Why do people actually believe the Yankees buy championships?

Look at it this way when the Miami Heat for example go out and buy Lebron James, Chris Bosh, Mike Miller, and Zydrunas Illgauskus they are somehow not buying a championship but the Yankees are. If your going to make the argument that the Yankees buy championships then I will make the argument as to why the Heat buy championships. The salary cap in the NBA is completely irrelevant because it's all based on popularity which is the same thing as saying teams have a financial disadvantage over others. Teams like the New Jersey Nets and LA Clippers will never be able to sign brand name free agents because they are not as popular a team as the Heat and as a result it's the same thing as saying those teams are at a financial disadvantage despite there being a salary cap. I root for that NJ Team by the way. People saying the Yankees buy championships is like saying if a rich person goes out and buys their daughter or son a car well they did it to buy their happiness, but it's not fair to the poor bum that lives out on the street who wouldn't complain about it being not fair. The fact that people think a championship can be bought are talking out of their asss. As far as there being more parody in the NBA goes, well that's the commissioner of baseball's fault. He should make two more wild cards in the AL as well as the NL so if you want to blame someone for the parody then blame the commissioner. more

Resolved Question: I always need a co-signer or a hefty down payment. Why?

I'm 25 years old. I got my first car and by first car I mean, my parents co-signed, I paid for it. I now own it free and clear, it's literally a POS, been in a wreck, totaled/reconstructed title. I want a new, better reliable car. When I first started looking, about a year ago, I was still paying off said car. The dealership said that they couldn't really help me unless I had a co-signer or half down. I walked away. Now, I'm still driving the same car, just today I sent in an application to get financed and once again I was told I'd need a co-signer or half down. I work a full time job, making $9/hour and I live paycheck to paycheck, so saving money is hard to do. Even if I were saving $100 every month towards a down payment, I'd be saving forever! My parent's said they can't co-sign for me again because they've pretty much attached their name to everything my younger sister owns (Car, wave runner, their own vehicles.) I know a lot of has to do with your credit score, right? See, that's the thing. I don't have credit because I can't get it? So, I feel like it's this never ending cycle. So stressful. I do wanna say I DONT want her back just trying to UNDERSTAND what is her thinking reason why it happen like this. Resolved Question: disney sucks now. i miss the old disney?

Okay well Im a big Disney fan and Absolutely love Disney. But in the past few years I think it's gone down hill. I love the classic movies like ' A goofy Movie' And the princess ones and some more of the classics but not its seems liek I big mess. All the movies I think are really dumb. Disney Pixar is terrible in my opinion. They make stupid movies like cars, Up, walle and more. I think toy story and nemo are good pixar movies but the rest seem so blah! I think disney is losing their touch. they dont seem to have there magic like they used to with the singing, wonderful music and they just seemed to have the disney touch before pixar. The princess and the frog movies sounds really dumb. How they make her a waitress ( I mean come on! All the princess movies make them in the older timesish. this one doenst seem like its gonna be good. i think it will be a failure liek the recent ones. They have repunzel coming out which i think will be good. from what i know it sounds liek it will bring disney back to its good old ways. i also think with disney channel it makes disney even worse. they have stupid shows liek hannah montana suite like of zack and cody phineas and pherb and more.they have nothing to do with beloved mickey mouse!
