Open Question: I have a minivan I'm wanting to trade or get rid of so I can buy a small truck...?

after months of putting it on craigslist and local free advertising websites I have gotten nothing. Are there car dealerships that will take it as a trade in? I don't know how any of that works, I've always bought cars that people were selling. It's a 1993 Nissan Quest. more

Open Question: Dealers Straight Out Lying About Prices Online?

I'm going to be buying my first car very soon, and I've got a few cars in mind, Ford Focus, Toyota Matrixs, Mazda 3. I need a hatchback for the things I do. I started looking on autotrader for good prices for cars in my general area, and I found a Toyota Matrix with 98000km, off lease, no accidents, for $7998 a decent price, but nothing amazing. The dealer was close so I went to take a look. When I get there, the price on the window is $9998 and I said, I'm not paying that much for a car you're advertising as $7998 online. The guy kept demanding it wasn't listed for anything other than $9998 online. So I took out my phone, brought up the listing, and proved it to him. He than told me he couldn't sell it to me for that price, and told me to come into his office to work something out. I than left. I was ticked off, but I assumed that was a rare occasion, until on friday, I had the SAME thing happen again. The online price is far off from the actual price, and they deny everything. This is very shady to me, I guess they assume a lot of people check pricing online before going to their dealership, so they entice people in with totally BS prices. Than when they hook you on the car at the dealership make you pay a TOTALLY different price. Is this even legal? I know you can sell your product for what ever amount you wish to, but to advertise a car at a price you have NO intention of selling it for seems a little unlawful to me. Am I the only one whose experienced this? Or is this something thats common? more

Resolved Question: New car buying question?

When buying a new car is there a difference between the internet price they advertise online and the sticker price when you get to the dealership? The internet price also shows an MSRP. Is the MSRP going to be the sticker price when I get to the dealership? And if so why do dealers give two different prices? more

Resolved Question: Should I buy this car?

I've had my car for 2 and a half years, and I want to get something I actually like and want, not just something because I can afford it. Anyway, this car is right in my price range, and meets my requirements for everything I want. It's a 2003 VW Jetta Wolfsburg edition, silver, has the 16"BBS wheels, new tires, small spoiler (no ricer sh!t), a discreet red decal from the front to the back, 5 speed standard, 1.8T. It's at the dealership being advertised for $5985. The ONLY downside is that it has 151,000 miles. Clean car fax, and all maintanance records and everything is up to date (timing belt, water pump, oil changes, filters, blah blah blah the works. I know VWs last forever if properly maintained, but the cost to change parts is ridiculous and I don't want to spend $2000 for everything that might need to be replaced. more

Resolved Question: When you buy a car from a dealer, is there anything in the contract about advertising for the dealership?

When you get a new car, there always seems to be a dealership sticker in the back. Well, you are providing advertising for the dealership. Could this perhaps be a reason for them to reduce the price for the buyer? more

Resolved Question: Disability discrimination?

My husband was in a car accident in 2007 and suffered a terrible brain injury and still is having residual effects because he still hasn't fully recovered from his brain injury. After his accident, he filed for disability and was denied (I guess almost everybody gets denied the first try and the process was too much for him to go through again at that time). Consequently, he got a job working for a very large local car dealership detailing cars a year ago and is still there. He let them know ahead of time that he has a brain injury and what he struggles with. Now, his boss will yell at him and call him out in front of everybody that he is too slow and is constantly being criticized about his "work ethic" because he is slower than they would like. They advertise themselves to be an equal opportunity employer and that their employees are their "greatest asset" but something about how they treat him and what they are doing to be wrong. We plan on trying to file him for disability again, but is there something we can do in the meantime to stop the harassment and criticism from this company while he's still there? It's extremely heartbreaking to see him come home every day so frustrated with himself and his brain injury, I feel completely helpless. Thank you ahead of time for anybody that has any suggestions..*About 2 months ago he had more testing done through a neuropsychologist to monitor what he still has struggles with. To summarize it, the doctor said he is slower and his brain doesn't work fast and he has memory problems. more

Resolved Question: Do you think hybrids are a viable alternative?

I wrote a persuasive essay for English a while back and I thought it'd be appropriate to post it somewhere on the Internet, so why not Y!A? :D Anyways, I can't find my 4 or 5 sources anywhere but will edit them in if I find them. Tell me what you guys think...once I get the sources up you can check my internal citations :P Hybrids Are Bad for the Environment Hybrids are all the craze nowadays and the car companies are selling them under the impression that they are the ultimate in green car technology. They have an advertised MPG, or miles per gallon, that is much, much higher than gasoline and diesel fueled cars. They emit fewer greenhouse gases while running which contributes to the slowing of global warming, the natural heating of the Earth which can be intensified due to higher than normal amounts of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Finally, they use less gasoline because of the MPG which will save the precious gasoline supplies in the world. But are they really that eco-friendly? Hybrids use Nickel-Cadmium or Lithium-ion batteries, Cadmium and Lithium being extremely rare in large quantities. The processing of the nickel in preparation for battery making releases copious amounts of sulfur dioxide into the air, which causes acid rain, which will destroy the ecosystem for miles around the nickel plants. Hybrids also advertise 19 MPG higher than what the realistic MPGs of hybrids are, and the precious gasoline that hybrids are using less of, will run out about the same time the precious minerals used in the hybrid batteries run out at current rates. There are also hybrids that plug into the wall, and of course that makes the emissions out of the car less, but the emissions from the coal being burned in 70% of the United States is much less clean than the gasoline and diesel fuels. Hybrids should not be developed further, as they are as destructive to the environment as gasoline cars are, as they use precious minerals in their batteries, cause acid rain around the nickel plants, destroying ecosystems, not saving them, and burn coal instead of gasoline for power. The best alternative for the most eco-friendly car is a clean diesel car with the PZEV, or Partial Zero Emission Vehicle, option available at many dealerships. The batteries used in hybrids destroy ecosystems around the mining and processing plants and the precious minerals used in hybrids will run out at about the same time as gasoline. Will this really solve the problem? The batteries in hybrids, in an example of the Prius batteries, made in Sudbury, Ontario, cause acid rain. According to Impact Lab, “[t]he acid rain around Sudbury was so bad it destroyed all the plants and the soil slid down off the hillside” (Prius), and with more and more companies creating hybrids, more and more battery processing plants will be made, causing more and more acid rain due to the copious amounts of sulfur dioxide emitted during battery processing. Not only do the batteries destroy the ecosystems around the plants, “after maybe 100,000 miles, the battery starts to lose its ability to charge. Tesla Motors performance figures even state that after 50,000 miles, the batteries will only perform at about 70% their optimal, factory level” (Why). What does that mean? That means that after 100,000 miles the battery will have to be replaced, and the used batteries cannot be recycled, and thus just go into landfills. And if you want optimal performance, you’d have to change the battery every 50,000 miles. The average gasoline car can be used until nearly 300,000 miles before ultimate failure with minor repairs, which is 4-7 batteries in a hybrid. And you have to remember that, according to Four-bits.com, “lithium… is pretty rare in large quantities. With projected increases in the use of lithium, the known mines would run out about the same time as oil” (Why). This makes hybrids just another quick fix that won’t fix the problem with the environment long term. Many hybrids are being converted into plug-in hybrids which plug directly into a household wall socket and charge via the coal-burning power plants that provide electricity to 70% of the United States, and coal emits many more greenhouse gases than gasoline does. This means that “coal-burning plants could be even worse for the environment than gasoline-burning engines…” (Hybrid). And even in the green-powered electricity states, such as California, Jim Motavalli of The Environmental Magazine quoted that the “ACEEE concluded that a plug-in version of the Toyota Prius could reduce CO2 emissions by a third over a conventional Prius hybrid, but only if its batteries were charged with California electricity — generated mainly from relatively clean sources. In the Midwest, dominated by coal-burning power plants, the report says the plug-in Prius would actually generate one percent more carbon dioxide” (Motavalli). California being the strictest state in emissions standard, this is a rare case of hybriThanks for your rebuttal :D I spent about 5 hours digging through all the pro hybrid stuff to get to this con hybrid stuff... I still dislike hybrids (I'm a fast car guy, not a fuel efficient one) but I was not aware that the sudbury (spelling?) was cleaned up... anyways, thanks for your rebuttal, I convinced my whole english class that hybrids were bad (including my hybrid-driving teacher) so now I have the actual facts. I'd still rather ride a bike to be fuel efficient. :P more

Resolved Question: Is this a good enough deal, or should I be more aggressive? (Used cars)?

A local Toyota dealership was offering $5000 for any used car as a trade in. My trade in is a 1997 Ford Taurus I would consider to be in poor condition. (Accident free, but heating and air conditioning have both failed. Around 140,000 miles.) The vehicle I am after is a 2009 Toyota Prius with no accidents on record, but 38,000 miles. Kelly bluebook values this at $18,470. The salesman has asked for $19,000 on the vehicle, and despite their add will only offer $4,000 on the trade. I doubt my current car is worth $1,000, so even with this trade, I would be getting a vehicle valued at $18,470 for only $16,000 It seems good on paper, but I am wondering if I should really push for them to live up to their advertising claim. As the trade in deal ends tomorrow, I need to decide soon. more

Resolved Question: Will some motorcycle dealerships negotiate the price with you?

I've got the Kelly blue book value on some bikes I want to look at, which are less than what they are priced on the dealers online web page. I've seen some high markups mostly from Harley, since a brand new sportster is about 7k and they were charging 11k for a used one. The KBB value of a 2009 Yamaha 650 custom is $4,950 and the classic is $5,050, but are advertised still at $6,290 and $6,490. Do you think I can negotiate the price since I know the value of the motorcycle? (This includes advertising fee's, transportation, ect.)No, Debbie they're the very same. Used 2009 883 low for 7k, brand new 2009 883 low for 11k more

Resolved Question: how can i get more traffic to my dealership?

hey everyone...i have a small used car dealership and i have been doing okay through these tough times for the auto industry. recently however, it has been very very slow, and i need to sell some cars! i have some of the best prices in the market, and i advertise on craigslist almost everyday...which for the past year, has been where i have sold the majority of my vehicles. i have advertised everywhere from local magazines, newspaper, autotrader, and i even have my own website. its weird because all the money i spent on advertising, i hardly got my return. i feel like the magazines and newspapers called me just to make me feel like i was getting traffic, but no one ever showed up from one of those leads. i was wondering if anyone has any ideas as how to bring traffic onto my car lot. maybe certain places i can advertise, or a promotional event of some sort? i feel like ive tried everything. thanks so much for your help!! btw, im located in riverside, ca which is a relatively dense population, and i am in between two main streets.. more

Voting Question: How Can i get my money Back for a used car i financed that is unsafe and defective?

I have purchased a dark blue 2006 Dodge Magnum in December of 2009 from North Coast Auto in Bedford Ohio. The car was found online and myself and my boyfriend worked with a John to make this car mine. It was advertised to have a new engine, keyless entry, tinted windows, clean interior, ect. A used car in excellent condition, sold for the bb value of excellent condition. John also informed us that while he was holding the car for us he noticed a crack in the windshield so he had that replaced. We had gone to the dealership the middle of December and put $400.00 down then arranged to take $2600.00 later to pick up the car. We had taken the rest of the down payment the end of December and the car was still not ready they told us. Then after about two more attempts to go pick up the car at a time that was convenient for me and my work schedule, TaRodd and I made it up there, John said it would be ready that morning. I called him multiple times and he ignored the calls so I left a voice message stating that I would be there at noon because I had to be at work at 1:30pm. The last time we spoke he said it would be ready as he said in the morning. Once we got there he looked a little surprised and said it would be one more hr, that they were finishing the detailing. He had me sign the papers, I didn’t feel comfortable signing the paperwork without seeing the car other than online but he assured me that if anything was wrong with the car we would shred the paper work and refund the down payment. Tarodd and I then waited and at 1pm I had to call in to my job and use 2hours of my paid time off so that it would not affect me attendance because the car was still not ready. We kept waiting and then I had to leave for work and they said that Tarodd could stay and look at the car and bring it to me and if I find anything wrong I can take it back. Well Tarodd didn’t leave the dealership until 8:45pm after they had closed. They then gave him the keys and left. Driving Back To Akron TaRodd then noticed that the engine light had popped on, he called john’s cell, to tell him what happened an that it needed fixed but was only able to leave a message. Once I got off work we noticed that some of the nuts on the outside of the hubcaps were missing also that the hatch back door did not hold itself up. Then it snowed and we noticed that something else wasn’t right and moisture was inside and the defogger was not working. We had to snow scrap the inside of the windows while driving or I wouldn’t be able to see outside. Then the check engine light came on, and the control arms were wobbling and would cause the car to jerk around. While these things were happening Tarodd and me were calling Jon and leaving messages demanding he called me back and that the car was unsafe to drive. When he did answer he apologized and assured me that the car would be fixed completely and told me that he hadn’t called me back because he gave my number to Bronco from North East Auto who was the garage that fixed their vehicles, and that he was supposed to have called me, but didn’t. He said he would call Bronco again and he gave me his number as well so that I could call him if I did not hear from him by the next day. When I did have to call Bronco the next day because he did not call me all he said was to bring up the car and he would fix it, but when I asked how long it would take he would not answer and said just drop it off. I asked when to bring the car he kept telling me to drop it off before 7:30pm but I worked until 10pm every night. I explained that to him and so did Tarodd and he then said have Tarodd drop it off. Tarodd drove up there the first time and they kept it 1 week and didn’t do anything except reset the check engine light and told him to bring it back on the weekend so they could finish fixing everything. So then 1 day after he got it back, prior to taking it back on the weekend, the check engine light came on and the car was still emitting lots of black smoke when it would get on the high way and when I would increase speed on the high way. It was clear when it snowed that nothing was done the week they had it because the windshield was still leaking. Then on the weekend Tarodd again dropped the car off on his way to class and they had it 8hours and when it was picked up they told Tarodd that they had to order parts and that they would need it for another week. Well we got the car and told them this is ridiculous and that they need to get everything together because this is a bigger hassle than needed. We then left multiple messages on Broncos and Jon’s phone requesting a call back regarding when they had all the parts. No one ever called us back. Then it was time to get new plates and I hadn’t gotten an E-check because the check engine light was on and would not pass so Tarodd and I drove up and told them we were on our way. Once we got there Bronco asked us to make a list of things needed done so we quickly wrote done the major  more

Resolved Question: On average, what % discount can be reduced from a new car price when you offer upfront cash?

I am looking at purchasing a car that has a MSRP of 28,980 by a Chicago dealership. The advertised price is $24,943. Assuming, I were to pay cash, what is the general rule for the percentage discount? For example, if I tell the dealer I will pay cash, would it be in the range if I were to tell him I would pay him $22,000 for the car (excluding taxes) or is that too low. When you pay up front cash what percentage can a buyer usually discount? more

Resolved Question: How many "Car Dealer Scams to Avoid" can you name?

I just read this article on the net, and I have one of my own, to add. The "Free Extras" scam. How many people have been lured to car lots, in recent years, thanks to a post card, or e-mail, which says "Come to our special event, on (date), and (time). Even if you do not choose to buy a car, you may be eligible to receive a Walkman, CD player, cell-phone, calculator, and so on" have found themselves facing very agressive sales-personnel, who get very annoyed if a visitor asks about the advertised offer, without buying an auto? Did anyone else know about the scam where a dealership will "hold" your keys, as "collateral", until you decide which car you will buy? I know that the rule of ANY purchase should be "Buyer Beware", but how many people go into the purchase experience, expecting to deal with cons, and scams? What ever happened to integrity, and dignity? more

Resolved Question: The scratch off ticket reveals I've won 10,000. Is this false advertisement?

We received a flyer with a Grand Prize Giveaway advertising that if the scratch numbers matched the winning number the card (included in the mailing) was a preloaded with $10,000. Exact wording: "Match the number you scratched off with the winning number to see if you have a $10,000 preloaded bank debit card" To my surprise the numbers matched! I screamed .... and re-read it to make sure I didn't miss something. Well then I call the dealership (who sent the mailer) and they told me that to actually win the grand prize the numbers have to match their winning number at the store which requires me to go in (at the time at which they will try to see if im interested in buying a car). I told him that it was very misleading and almost false advertising. He said that 30,000 mailers were sent out and roughly 3,000 mailers have scratch off numbers that match the winning number but again, to win the 10k the numbers must also match the ones they have at the store. Is this false advertisement? Can they get in trouble for this? Anyone with useful legal information would be appreciated./ more

Resolved Question: Help with resume - Describing and listing responsibilities/accomplishments?

I was the manager at a pre-owned dealership from Jan-Nov 09. I'm having some difficulty listing my job responsibilities and accomplishments--please have a look and offer some input... Filed and organized paperwork Verified client applications and information Determined eligibility of in house financing Processed payment information (down payments) and collected monthly car notes Advertised new cars and sales as well as general business - online and by flyer Attended auctions with owner to purchase new lot vehicles, helped appraise vehicles. (I wasn't terribly great at appraising) Give pay to mechanics Renegotiate with buyer after vehicle re-possession Notify buyers by telephone and mail of late car notes and possible re-possession. The lot was quite small, we would have a total of maybe 10-15 cars on site and we would sell about 8/10 per month. I personally sold a few by "accident" but listing that doesn't seem appropriate because it wasn't necessarily my job to be a salesgirl and I didn't use any special technique. So of those cars we had to repossess 1-2 every few months. Of those cars I was able to get the cars back to the buyer by settling on late payments and arranging a more suitable future payment (lot owner approved, of course). And for those cars that weren't repossessed but late on payments I always managed to get them to pay within 12-24hrs of speaking to them. I would say about 80% of the clients I determined in house financing for were good, on time, clients. How in the world do I list this properly? more

Resolved Question: Do i have the right to sue this dealership?

I bought a car from a dealership in Ohio. The price was $2300 and I just needed a car to give me kids to get to school. I bought the car as is, knowing only that I had to change the tires ( that's the only thing they told me that needed fixing) so I bought the car and took it back to my home in Michigan. The next day I took it to a mechanic and they told me the car had a blown transmission and it was missing a head on the gasket on top of regular servicing. They told me I was even lucky that the car didn't blow up on the way back home. But they told me it would cost 2000 extra to fix and i don't have the money to fix the car at all and i don't want to keep going out of my way to take my kids to school before work. Since the dealership falsely advertised the car, could i sue them and get my money back, or make them pay for the transition repairs? Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Selling my truck- can I say no to someone that wants to buy it for the advertised price?

I have received a lot of interest in my truck since listing it for sale yesterday on Craigslist but an auto dealership wants to buy it right now for the price I am asking. I do not want to sell it to a dealership. Do I have the right to say no or is that discrimination?I too agree that I must have set the price to low to have so much interest which is a bummer for me. When the dealer comes to see the truck in about an hour can I tell him I raised the price? It seems really shitty for me to do that but I really love this truck and am only selling it because it is not right for our family anymore. I know I can sell it to someone (not a dealer) and feel good about the person buying it not some money hungry dealer. ArghhUpdate- I increased the price to $14,000, ditched the dealer and have a few people coming over to see it today even at the new price :) more

Resolved Question: Was Manny Villar ever really poor?

Was Manny Villar really ever poor? AS I WRECK THIS CHAIR By William M. Esposo (The Philippine Star) Updated February 07, 2010 12:00 AM “Nakaligo ka na ba sa dagat ng basura? (Have you bathed in a sea of garbage?)” is the opening line of the jingle of Nacionalista Party presidential candidate Manny Villar which is featured in a television commercial that attempts to project him as having been one of the poorest of the poor. But was Manny Villar really one of the poorest of the poor as what his advertising has been projecting? A Chair Wrecker reader from Tondo who claimed to know the Villar family when they still resided there debunked that notion of Villar ever having been poor. This information was relayed to yours truly via our response email address. The former Villar family Tondo neighbor cited reference points to support his assertion that Manny Villar was never really poor — including the claim that Villar’s father used to have a “nikaladong (stainless steel clad)” private Jeep. During the 1950s, a nikaladong private Jeep is a status symbol in Tondo, definitely not the hallmark of a poor household. Considering how Manny Villar has been dodging the serious issues pertaining to his use of public office in order to add immense benefits and profits to his businesses, your Chair Wrecker decided to do some investigating. Guess what Manny Villar’s online bio revealed: “Manuel Villar Jr. was born on December 13, 1949 in Tondo, a densely populated district of Manila. He was the second of nine children of Manuel Villar Sr., a government employee, and Curita Bamba, a seafood dealer. As a young boy, he helped his mother sell fish, crabs, and shrimp in Divisoria to help earn money to pay for his education. Villar finished his education at Holy Child Catholic School in 1962, and finished his high school education at Mapua Institute of Technology in 1966. He attended the University of the Philippines-Diliman and earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1970. He returned to the same school to earn his master’s degree in business administration in 1973.” In the early 1950s, the rich lived in the big compounds in Ermita and Pasay and what was called New Manila in Quezon City. In Tondo, you found the middle class and the poor as well. Former president Joseph Estrada also claims roots in Tondo but his family was never poor. Based on his online bio, Villar cannot really justify calling himself poor. The Villar Tondo home, as shown on his 2009 TV commercials, was made of sturdy materials. It has lasted to this day. His father was employed while his mother operated a fish, crab and shrimp dealership in lucrative Divisoria Market. It may not be Class AB household income but it is definitely not Class E. Proof that the Villar children were never really wanting is the fact that Manny Villar studied in private schools. The indigent kids went to public school. Enrolling one’s child in a private school is a middle class value and option. The indigent kids who do manage to finish high school would tend to immediately learn a craft in order to be able to earn money right away. Aspiring for a business administration master’s degree is not the usual post high school move of indigent kids. Villar narrated on his 2009 TV commercial, with Boy Abunda interviewing him, that as a young kid he thought that corned beef was soupy because that was how they used to prepare it at home. This, he claimed, was their way to ensure that everybody had a share. But the fact is that there are really two ways to cook canned corned beef. One is the dry sautéed type while the other is the soupy type where you can add potatoes and cabbage. Both the rich and the middle class enjoy corned beef both ways. Also, poor folks, especially a family of eleven, CANNOT AFFORD to eat canned corned beef. For a family of 11 to be eating corned beef confirms that the Villar family is anything but poor. That was the case then and more so now when the poor go hungry or manage to eat only one meal a day. Up to the 1980s, people from the provinces consider it a status symbol to be eating corned beef. That is why canned foodstuffs, especially corned beef, are being displayed in the sala by many households in the provinces for these to be seen by visitors. For Manny Villar to don this facade of being “poor” once upon a time just to gain political advantage should make every Filipino voter ponder as to what else he would be willing to do just to attain his objective. Wisdom from a cherished honest man Tomorrow, our family will mark the death anniversaries of our Dad and Mom who both died on the same date, four years apart. Mom passed away on February 8, 1966 while Dad passed away on February 8, 1970. Our Dad was the most honest person we knew. Resolved Question: I bought a car and turn around and couldn't get it in my name because it has a lien on it. What can I do?

I bought my 2000 ford focus le wagon and went to get it in my name and found out that the title has a lien on it. I called the guy that sold it to me and he states that he didn't know it had a lien on it. He's a small car dealership owner. The guy that sold it to the dealership owner had the lien against him. I paid $2500 for it and found the advertisement where he had it advertised for $3500. That to me makes it sound like he knew. Anyways, I'm giving him to monday to find the lien holder release form that my dmv told me I would have to have to put it in my name. If I don't hear anything by then, I'm gonna call him and tell him either my money or we go to court. Is this the right decision or should I try something else? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Also surprisingly I was able to put insurance on it. more

Resolved Question: Can I back out of buying this car?

I put a $1500 deposit on a car. No financing papers have been signed because the car dealership doesnt have the title yet. I want to back out because the dealership said the sticker price was the lowest advertised and I found the car online on their site for $1000 less! Can I do this and get all of my money back? I live in MA.I guess Im wondering because I only put the deposit down 3 hours ago (unfortunately, they are now closed). Also, was it even legal for them to sell it to me if they dont have the title?NOTE: I have not left with the car. I still do not have the car. BBB.org also states this company gives refunds so lon as you have not accepted delivery of the vehicle. However, they have threatened to keep my "non-refundable" deposit. more

Resolved Question: Ford Focus 1999 2.0 hatchback ABS not working?

I have recently bought a 1999 Ford Focus Ghia hatchback 2.0 petrol which was advertised to have ABS and traction control among other features. I quickly noticed after purchasing the car that there was no traction control button and the car does spin if prompted which I wasn't to bothered about. Recently because of all the snow I have also realised that there was no ABS kicking in when i was sliding and this is serious. No ABS light or traction control lights turn on when I turn my car on but I have had a thorough look with a light and these symbols for the features are present in the dashboard lighting and so I can only assume that my car is supposed to have these features, every other car exactly the same as mine T reg also has these features (I have looked on autotrader). I am wondering where the fuse box is for these functions so I can rule off that possibility, I know of the fuse box in the bonnet but there is supposedly one near the centre console somewhere but I cannot find it. If this is the case, does anyone know what the problem may be? I could really use some help without having to go to a dealership as I am worried about giant unnecessary costs. Thanks to anyone helping me out. more

Resolved Question: What is the "real" profit a car dealership makes?

I'm in the market for a new car and have visited a few dealerships. Each dealership has told me that they can *not* sell a car a two or three hundred dollars above invoice cost. Instead, the dealerships want to charge me the full MSRP, which is about $900 above invoice. The dealerships say that the $900 does not include their advertising and marketing costs. If those costs are factored in, the dealership's profit is really only $500-$600. Is what the dealerships tell me true? Does a car manufacturer's MSRP include or not include a dealership's advertising and marketing costs? Thanks for the help. more

Resolved Question: Scammed by used car salesman?

We went to purchase a car (2004 Chrysler Sebring) after seeing it advertised online for $6700. Drove the car, loved it. Put $2500 down anticipating low monthly payment for about 3 years. I read the contract before signing which put the purchase price for $9175. They then tell me that the internet price was actually the price minus the down payment ie the amount financed. The actual price was over $9000. The said there was a disclaimer on the page. The disclaimer read something like the "internet price" represents the price when paid in cash in full. I said well I can pay in cash and we will not finance. They balked at that. I walked away. Has anyone every heard of tactic like that. Just curious. And this was a large dealership.... more

Resolved Question: apply for a loan credit score drops?

i have applied for a car loan over the internet. a used car dealership website advertises they can finance people with bad credit, bankrutcy or no credit. i dont know how they can do this or find a loaner. my understanding is IF you have a bankrutcy or BAD credit or NO credit its like very hard to get a loan for anything. i hadnt heard from them yet. i am wondering if they had been going through multiple lenders to get me financed. Question......If you apply for a loan they have to check your credit score ect. how many points to you lose from they check? more

Resolved Question: How do I sell my car?

I have a 2004 red Saturn Vue (don't remember how many miles) that I pay $300.00 a month for. Now the payments would be cheaper, but I don't have the best credit so that is why they are so high. I want to sell my car and get a cheaper one so I can hopefully pay most of it off and get a cheaper car so I can make much cheaper payments. So....do I just advertise my car in the paper...sell it to CarMax or whatever it's called? I can't accept payments or anything, they'd have to pay me everything up front but I know my car is worth over $10 grand so is that even possible? And then once I do sell it, do I let the dealership know I sold it? These may seem like obvious questions to a lot of ppl, but I have no idea how any of it works and I want to make sure I do everything right! more

Resolved Question: Audi A5....The Base Price on the Audi Website is Far From the Advertised Prices From the Dealerships?

There are several Audi dealers in my surrounding area, but they are either small dealerships, or large dealerships in expensive areas (DC,MD,VA). The base price for the Audi A5 (black ext) Automatic online was 37k, all of the dealers advertise for 41+. I am assuming this is because the carry the premium package cars. Is is possible that I get one for the same price on the website??? more

Voting Question: Auto Interest rates?...broad I know, I'm looking for a general idea of what to expect.?

I am buying a new car looking to finance about $11,000. I had my credit run at a dealership just to see if I would qualify...they denied my request saying that I have good credit but not enough history and that I would require a co-signer. My parents will co-sign, both have excellent credit. My question is what kind of rate should I expect? The average rate in my zip code for a 48 mo. new car loan is 6.78%. The lowest available advertised I've seen is about 4.75%. Should I expect something around the low (4.75) the middle (6.78) or the high (7+)? Am I in any kind of position to argue for a better rate if a high one is offered considering my co-signer vs my credit worthiness? more

Resolved Question: Does anyone feel Netbanner Ads are invading your privacy?

I've been doing some marketing for awhile now, and came across Netbannerads.com - Actually, they had e-mailed me and let me know that I may not have some keyword on my site, etc. After speaking with someone over there, I asked how Google!, Yahoo, and MSN would allow them to have a website appear on top of their listings. This is where things get tricky. They deal with outsourced non-affiliate, non-partnering 'active x attacking' companies. Those companies install 3rd party software on your computer (Kind of like those annoying pop-up windows you mindlessly click 'ok' to). Once the software is installed, and you utilize Google!, Yahoo, or MSN to search for something, the 3rd party software will display the person owning the 'keyword's website on TOP of the search listings. More in depth > If I search for "Toyota", in stead of getting Toyota's Advertisement First (Which I'm sure they paid good money for), I'll get Larry's Toyota Dealership in New Brunswick, NJ. appearing on top of everything, with my actual search listings far below this. I think there might even be some infringement here - not only on a user side, but on the policies governing advertising rights on these sites. If anyone can show a moral, or ethical stand point here that advises to use Netbannerads.com (absolving from the picture the marketing and money aspect of this) I'd be greatly appreciated. Also, in general, it's about $2000-$3000 a year to own a 'word' or 'phrase', which could be seen as many as 30,000 times a month, and clicked-free-of-charge. In comparison to Google!'s AdWords, which can cost up to $3 per click, and when you're looking to up #'s, and not to sell a product, Netbannerads.com seems VERY cost effective. more

Resolved Question: Question about those used car sale events?

Have you seen those ads about used auto car events? You know they advertise that they will be in a mall parking lot, or inside your local event center? They are usually aired on TV. Well in my local town we usually have these events by the same auto dealerships in our local expo center. What they claim is that $99 will be your down payment and $99 will be your monthly payment etc. Do you think they can work with people with little or not credit? Because I need a new car and I really am not picky about the age or anything. I am 19 and I barely started working again last month, and I have two good paying jobs. So what are my chances on getting in on these special financing deals they talk about? You know $99 down and $99 per month. I have some money for a cheap car but I suppose I should try my luck there and build my credit since I only have internet and cell phone in my name. Any advice or warnings? Thank you. more

Resolved Question: If a dealership lists a car at a wrong price on autotrader, do they have to honor it?

Resolved Question: How do I protect and idea I have for car dealerships?

I have an idea for car dealerships to possibly advertise and sell more efficiently and faster. But I am not sure how to go about it without them steeling my idea and not giving me credit for it? How do I do this? Do I patent an idea? How do I do this and who do I contact? Do I just go in with a legal witness? How could I get a legal witness since police are not willing to help with something like this? Can I get them to sign something stating they heard the idea BEFORE i tell them the idea? What if they refuse to sign? How would I professionally even contact them to set up an interview? I am a college student and wouldn't find it difficult to believe they would refuse the meeting simply because I am young and not in the business with history of success. But the idea is quite clever and has a lot of potential. My future depends on this help! more

Resolved Question: Shady car dealer or not?

One week ago I purchased a car from an auto dealer 3 hours away from me. I drove to the dealership to drive the car and have it inspected. The dealership and I agreed on a price. I am paying in cash and needed to move some money around, so they took $500 from me to hold the car and asked me to write a check for the remainder of what I owe on it, and then as soon as I receive the money that's getting moved around I will call them to drop the check and the deal will be done and I will then pick up the car. Here's the thing that's bugging me.....I found the car on the internet. I found it on a popular car website and it was also on the dealership's website. Even though I have supposedly purchased this car and signed all the paperwork, why are they still advertising it? I had a friend of mine email the dealership under her name and ask if the car was still available, and they told her it was. They even offered to let her test drive it. And this is all after I have supposedly bought it. Now I understand that they do not actually have the money in their hands yet; they only have $500 down from me. But the sales guy told me that would take it off the market. I actually understand their point of view if they want to wait to have all the money in their hands; what I DO NOT like is being bulls***ed and told that the car is off the market when they are still marketing it. Is this shady,or is this something all auto dealers do? I did extensive research on this dealership, and they are pretty reputable. This is not some bad neighborhood, buy here-pay here type of place.LOL! Just read first response. Didn't know that; this is the reason I posted on Yahoo Answers. Okay, good. Sounds reassuring. P.S. Haven't smoked weed in 15 years. It's age and bad experiences that make me paranoid, not drugs! LOL :) more

Resolved Question: Dealer sold me a Certified preowned civic, 150 point inspection. clear car fax.?

We bought a certified 150 point inspection civic from a honda dealer. Though they did not disclose prior front end frame damage. I purchased the care in January and was trying to sell it to qualify for a home loan. Though I came to find out that everybody who appraised it immediately told me the car had been in an accident and was repaired. The last place I took it was back to dealership where I bought it and had it appraised. First thing he says "oh that car has been in an accident" they wanted to give me less than any other place. So I asked him if was normal policy to sell cars that had been repaired and not disclose that information. So the guy back peddled and told me "oh it wouldn't make a huge difference, it's not that big of a deal. Maybe it just had been scratched and repainted" What are my rights? They advertise up and down how they are a respected dealership and have won awards. But this seems like shady business to me.To the guy who mentioned contacting the head of the pre-owned certification dept. That is a great idea. And thank you To the sly guy in the "auto" business. You are correct. I did not get it inspected. It's not so much me trying to burden others with my financial situation, but more of an ethics issue, a moral issue. An issue of running an honest business. When you buy an apple. Do you pay to have that apple professionally inspected for poison or razor blades? no. I'm going to take a wild guess and assume that you probably trust your local grocery store to sell you apples free of poison and razor blades. And if by chance you did bite into a razor blade filled apple and cut your lip off, I would be courteous enough to not say to you"what so your lip fell off? maybe you should have had it inspected. Or are you trying to blame your health problems on others?" chew on that. thank you and goodnight more

Resolved Question: What's a good price of a 93 BMW?

I wish to remove the dealer advertising from the back of my fully owned car but I do not wish to damage the paint. As used car dealerships change these all the time, I know there must be a solvent or something, but am unsure what to use or how.
