Resolved Question: what do you think World Cup brings Mexican flags back to streets of Los Angeles?
The Mexican flag is back on the streets of Los Angeles after several years of political exile. Four years ago, Miguel Haro was among half a million people who marched for immigrant rights in downtown L.A. At the urging of organizers and Spanish-language disc jockeys, he left his Mexican flag at home and waved an American flag instead. Concerned that the Mexican flag carried the wrong message, Mexican American political leaders and other activists launched a largely successful effort to have people at public events, particularly protest marches, wave the American flag, believing it to be a better symbol for their case. But with the World Cup in full swing, Haro proudly has affixed his Mexican flag to his Toyota RAV4 and cheered for the team of his parents. The American flag is fine for politics, he said, but this is soccer. My allegiance is to America, no doubt about it, and I'd think I wouldn't have to prove it," said Haro, a 25-year-old utility worker. "But when I wave the Mexican flag for soccer, it's strictly cultural. It's showing I'm proud of my Mexican background." After years of being downplayed at large political rallies that regularly punctuated the L.A. landscape, the World Cup has given the Mexican flag some of its big event presence back. The red, white and green banners hang from cars on the freeway, wave inside countless bars and eateries during games and are even held proudly by cyclists riding through downtown L.A. With the Mexican team having survived preliminary rounds and scheduled to play Sunday against Argentina in the Round of 16, fan loyalty — and flags — are likely to be at a highly visible peak. To some, it is a disconcerting image. In Southern California's huge immigrant communities, home-nation flags are ubiquitous. During the World Cup, sales have been brisk for South Korean flags as well as countries with big soccer followings such as Brazil, England and Spain. Displays of those banners are largely noncontroversial. But the Mexican flag is different. The American political debate over immigration — illegal immigration in particular — is largely a debate over Mexicans. And few symbols in that debate have carried as much political weight as the Mexican flag. The presence of Mexican flags at protests and marches over the last decade became flashpoints, with critics saying the displays suggested that immigrants felt loyalty to Mexico rather than the United States. "Anytime a flag gets caught up in national politics, it becomes a potent symbol," said Jaime Regalado, a political science professor at Cal State L.A. But the widespread display of the flag at soccer matches — and the relative lack of controversy surrounding it so far — suggest that the symbolism is less inflammatory when put in the context of sports, not politics. One indication of that changed reality is that some advertisers are now getting into the act. In a Volkswagen commercial, a parade of fans, including American and Mexican soccer fans, march loudly down separate streets while hoisting their nation's flags, only to meet in the middle, where they face off tensely. Then, after a moment, they happily exchange their national team jerseys. Reality may not be quite that cheerful, but David Carter, executive director of the USC Sports Institute, said sports fans "regardless of their background and ethnicity tend to compartmentalize sports and other, everyday activities." "Showing your heritage during a sports event," he added, "is very different than showing your heritage in a controversial way during a political demonstration." These days, the flag is also big business. i take media studies as one of my school subjects and we were discussing the worlds resources. They surveyed that by 2040 the demand for resources will be greater than the resources themself. What can we do about this? ride a bike to school to save petrol? flush the toilet once or twice a day to save water? What can we do... Advertisers dont care about the worlds resources. All they care about is making money no matter the cost (to nature). The latest oil slick is an example of this. I heard on the news that millions of dollars go into technology for getting the oil from under the ground more efficiently, yet the technology for protecting the marine life when something goes wrong has hardly changed in 30 years. Almost everything we use comes from oil such as plastic, chairs, vehicles, fuel, pens and the list goes on. People say that electric cars will come in and our oil reserves will be able to replenish over the years but it takes approximately 15 gallons of petrol to make a tyre and also most of our electricity comes from burning fossil fuels. What can we do to protect our resources. All the companies care about is making money and most governments dont care either. Another problem is people aged around mid 40s-50s+ dont really mind because its not going to affect them in their lifetime so world leaders have more important things to worry about. Is there anything we can do to convince these people? moreResolved Question: How much should a car cost? Really.?
Just from some light browsing on the internet, it seems like they (the advertisers/car manufacturers) want us to believe that $30k is a reasonable median cost for a new car in the U.S. The price goes up disporportionately if they can call it a 'crossover' or the holy grail: SUV!!! $$$$$$$$ Assuming a person makes around $50k a year gross/ $30k a year net (is that a reasonable assumption for the U.S.?), and assuming the car will be worth close to $0 in 5 years, a $30k car works out to be around 20% of his or her income, not including gas repairs insurance et cetera. Is this reasonable? Is it sustainable? Are we heading for a 'correction' in auto pricing? or is the plan that we all just use financing tricks to perpetuate these exhorbitant prices?Good answers Redneck & Mr(s) Z! I need my own business. I've been working at a factory for over a decade, and it's ruining my health. I'm unable to lift or carry much due to pain in my hands. Keep trying on the website? My heart tells me I probably should. Should I do other things alongside it? Al's Fried Chicken, Comedy Club and Oil Change? Who should make the decision about this issue?
Should advertisers be allowed to use exaggeration and puffery? For example, "if you take this diet pill you will experience a dramatic weight loss." "This is the best car on the market". "The coffee we sell is the best in the world." Explain your position. Who should make the decision about this issue? When is puffery acceptable? moreResolved Question: Celebrities in advertisements?
Here's the prompt: "Advertisers frequently use the testimony of a celebrity to support a claim: a football star touts a deodorant soap, an actress starts every day with Brand A coffee, a tennis pro gets stamina from Brand X cereal, a talk-show host drives a certain kind of car. The audience is expected to transfer approval of the celebrity of the product. This kind of marketing is misleading and insults the intelligence of the audience. Am I going to buy the newest SUV because an attractive talk-show host gets paid to pretend he drives one? I don't think so. We should boycott this kind of advertising and legislate rules and guidelines for advertisers." I do not agree with the narrator. The only reason i came up with so far was it is subconsciously done. It's supposed to be a feature article.. i think it sucks ...and i think my english teacher is going to despise it too. here it is:Stop Commercialism now How many times have you surfed on the internet and not found yourself to come across many ads that have popped up on the page you were on or are on? Many advertisers are profiting from what reels us in, which are these many ads you hear or see on the TV, radio, internet, etc. All in all, it’s a two-sided affair. Say you are just checking your email and you see a thousand emails. Possibly, half of those are spam from those penny-pinchers out to get you and your money. So what should you do about this? Well, you have one of two options being the check all and delete button or moving all that unnecessary junk to the spam folder where it belongs and needs to stay. Commercialism is vastly becoming a problem not a success as many assume it to be. Studies show that 67% of teens buy items online and 37% of children do. Commercialism attacks the adolescent ages because they figure we are susceptible to any commerce that they are willing to throw at us. Also, many individuals assume this to be a more convenient way of purchasing anything and it being a faster way. That may be, but how do you know you are actually getting what you paid for? You’re wasting your precious time behind a glass screen. Purchase the more effective way, by going out into stores and getting what you need. Many politicians use commerce for their campaigns. You know those TV ads that always contradict that you need to vote for so and so for president instead of the other guy because he did whatever? This is a way of a scam to get money out of your pockets and into their hands. These ads are the ones that are appealing to hear or see, just an easier way to pull you in. Commercialism also costs too much money. Most of which is probably our tax dollars. The price goes up for a product if realized that it makes a certain individual sustain a cool image by using it or buying it. Many of these can be misleading, so any time you are gullible to believe one you are giving away money that could be used for something more important. Advertising takes up a lot of one’s time. We only have one life to live right? The average American spends at least 60 minutes reading, hearing or even watching ads on the television, radio, in magazines, etc. By the time that person comes of old age, 4 years of their life will be basically deducted away from under their feet. Some say that we are immune, too smart, and too savvy to fall for such. If so were true, we wouldn’t know so much of certain brand names, dress a certain way, buy the foods we eat, and our lives wouldn’t mirror the ads around us. In addition to that, we wouldn’t need pop-up blockers, virus protection programs, and firewalls to save us from all this commerce. So ask yourself this, are we really immune to what we see on the TV, hear on the radio, etc? If we really were, we wouldn’t feel the vanity of using these things to get a better self-image to fit in with the way society portrays us to be, which is all the same. It’s kind of a win-win situation at its best, honestly and ironically enough. On the contrary, you are helping yourself out somewhat the same way you are helping out these phony ads. Sure ads can help us out by providing vital information to us consumers, but there is way too much that we are exposed to. Ads can hide the fact of caring for each other, the environment, and the community. Many ads give off a bad message to viewers. Such as smoking meaning you are different in a good way than everyone else, you’re only cool if you drive a pricey car, and also making us think that you have to be mature to drink. These messages can cause conflict in families because they could or can influence the way a person in that family thinks. This could cause friction because of the choices that family member made due to the advertisement. In that case, who’s to blame here? It all depends on the situation. To blame for 90% of it would be the advertisement because it provoked them to make such a decision and the other 10% being lack of poor judgment and self-esteem that was made better by the advertisement. So for all this in mind, why do we really need commercialism anywhere? To pay the bills, to help finances, to help make it an easier, better, more convenient way to make purchases? All it does is cause problems. What does it really help? You’re not really earning anything but helping the advertiser earn your trust and money. So next time you fall for one of these, think of all the consequences that won’t cushion your fall. Whenever you see a pop-up that pops up on your screen, click the x button at the top right, whenever you see any junk email click the delete all button, whenever you hear an ad on the TV, radio, or any electronic device turn it off and read a book not a magazine, instead. You can do many things to avo moreResolved Question: How much paid to vehicle adertisers?

My brother had been acting very weird lately. Before I used to always go to him and tell him my problems. He never spoke about his relationship problems with me because he is a very secretive person. I am not as secretive as him, I am very open minded and say the things I like saying. His girlfriend and I are cool, and she always nags about how she has problems with the relationship with him. I don't say anything and I always tell her that my relationship is fine. Sometimes when I have problems with my relationships I go to my brother because he listens. I think he got fed up with all my problems that I was having with my bf. I know it's better not to discuss relationship problems with siblings because someway or somehow they get fed up. My dad gave us the opportunity to run his publishing business. So far my brother had stayed home and I have been going to my Dad's office. I also included my boyfriend because he is great at getting ads from different companies and small businesses. He is so great that he should win a noble award for being the great advertiser. I know I sound corny but so far he hasn't met anyone who denied him an ad to our newspaper. My brother had claimed couple of times that how does my boyfriend gets ad from different places. My mom had taken my brother's side for letting my boyfriend take over the business. But, my boyfriend is not even taking any commission from my Dad, he is practically driving to different places spending his time, because he doesn't have a job, because he has a rich sibling who supports him here and there. Also, my bf has money saved up which he spends once in a while. He doesn't ask money from our family. And, all he has been doing is helping. He told me because he loves me he wants my dad's new business to succeed to the maximum. After six months of succeeding, he'll leave. My brother is so jealous that he doesn't want to talk to me, the person he always comes and talks to. I am a very social person and my brother is the complete opposite. My mom knows that my brother is not social. That is his problem, but what is his problem with me? What did I do? I just want my Dad's business to flourish and I have a great weapon which is my boyfriend. My bf got almost 30 ads already and that's in one and a half weeks. That's almost $5,000 worth of ads. If it wasn't for my boyfriend. My brother would be on the streets because my mom doesn't make as much money to support the house and two cars. I am only doing it for the family. My brother has a hard time understanding. What do you think? moreResolved Question: Violence against women, female teens, surges on TV?
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Incidents of violence against women on mainstream U.S. television has increased by 120 percent in the past five years, with the depiction of teen girls as victims rising by some 400 percent, the Parents Television Council said in a report on Wednesday. The media watchdog said it was particularly disturbed by the use of violence against women in comedies and said it hoped TV networks and advertisers would stand up against the trend. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20091028/tv_nm/us_violence ************ I barely can muster the words. A coworker and myself somehow got onto the topic of commercials. He mentioned one about OJ Simpson hurdling things and racing around, or whatever, then he said I was probably too young to remember it. So, did I just get the advertiser wrong, or am I remembering a DIFFERENT commercial that was for Delta Airlines that featured an NFL running back avoiding obstacles and accomplishing whatever??? I have recently been following the recent FDA Electronic Cigarette issues. I decided to try one of them out, and this motivated my recent interest. I tried it out simply because of the cost of a pack of cigarettes being as high as it is, about $6.00- $7.00/pk in Maryland. I have been smoking for 23 years and am a US citizen by birth, and lived here all of my life. Anyway, enough with my background. I have been looking at the advertisers claims and they are LYING, STRETCHING THE TRUTH, and flooding these messages to the US public. I am not against the electronic cigarettes, actually I am in favor of them. I know based on the facts that the FDA has received that there are carcinogens contained in the vapor that is inhaled as well as ethyl glycol, or di-ethyl glycol (automobile anti-freeze compounds). I know that there are small quantities of this stuff in the heat ducts when I go outside because of the cars on the road, as well as inside of a bus from the heater running (take a guess what heats many heaters in cars and buses". The picture of the famous actress with a milk mustache doesn't say much about the nutritional value of milk the she is ''wearing'' in the advertisement. The basketball players outfitted in their Nike's while making spectacular shots don't talk about the quality-construction of their shoes. Despite the fact that the pictures of images have little to do with the items being promoted, these ads are very successful in persuading people to buy the products. People associate feelings and strong emotions with they images that they see. Consumers buy these products, not because of the impressive facts that they have learned about the products, but because of the emotional appeal of the advertisements. I mean I don't think it says anywhere in the bible that christianity should be built on a profitable organisation unless God's a capitalist. I mean is the vatican necessary? Are churches necessary? There's bound to be easier ways to maintain and spread the word of God than through the means of something dirty as money and profit, seems more like a satan type scenario, something like his followers would do. The pope along with every other religious mentor down the ladder of power seems to be living cushy lifestyles of the back of other peoples hard earned cash, people are kinda guilt ridden to fork over money at mass on sundays without looking like a cheap skate, does God love our money? Where in the bible does it say that this empire was necessary. It seems these religious advertisers aka priests the whole way up to the pope are living it pretty sweet without having to do any "real" work, why can't they go out and get jobs and bust their a$$es like rest of us. I'm not against charity or anything but c'mon, they're freeloading off us. I then received an email from Yahoo-Finance stating the selling price as well as a transaction id all I had to do was get a moneygram e-transfer and once the money was received they would contact the seller for the shipment to begin. I sometimes read ads in the Advertiser seeking babies. They say, "We can give your baby a good home," and give a phone number. I'm assuming they are going through a lawyer because all adoptions must do this since it's illegal to sell babies. But newspapers have ads for prostitutes, which is illegal (though this paper doesn't). How do you know if it's on the up and up? Where would you normally go if you wanted to adopt out your baby? I'm not preg but just curious. I've had scares b4 when I thought I was preg and considered adoption. I think the natural mother should at least get maternity clothes and food and such, though aren't parents only required to pay the medical costs? Maybe if someone would answer one of these ads, the adoptive parents might give more because they don't want to go through the normal channels? But wouldn't that be illegal? How does a nromal adoption work? Is it true the adoptive parents will hardly pay for anything? Wouldn't they want the mom to be comfy? I heard in some cases the mother even gets a car or school paid though this isn't legal?Dammit how many times do I have to ask this before I get answer?!! moreVoting Question: Does this mean he still likes me? So i havent ran into Jay since July 4th and occasionally i would see him here and there but most of the time its just from a distance lol.. so that doesnt really count. However, sometime last week I saw Jay with his car parked outside my house and he ran up to my house but did not ring the doorbell.. im not sure what would drive someone to park there car outside of someones house and just stand there staring at there house other then him seeing if someone was home. And im pretty sure he was trying to see through the front window if i was home.. like we do have blinds but u cant see through them from outside so i guess he realized that and 15 minutes later he gets back into his car and drives off. Now I would have went outside of my house to see what he was doing but i was still in my pj's and i looked horrible. So i was not in a state to go and talk to him.. I still like Jay .. Alot.. and he has been on my mind for a while so to just see him outside my house was shocking and a huge sign to me. The thing is though, i dont know if he was just curious to know what i was up to or he was doing that cause he liked me and wanted to see if i was home.. but still wouldnt he have rang the doorbell? but im not going to lie there have been times in the past where people would ring the doorbell and we would not answer the door, usually there advertisers but sometimes there actually neighbors who want to borrow something or come over.. and other times its just people we dont know ringing the doorbell.... so i dunno if he was one of those "people" at one point and now he wants to be on his safe guard by making sure someone is home. so what do you think? does he still like me? For example, almost every car commercial I see is targeted to the mid 20's audience, why is that? Wouldn't it make more sense to market to an older audience that theoretically have better credit and more money to spend? moreResolved Question: Why is destroying the definition of marriage the same as destroying marriage?
Rabbi Yonason Goldson writes: * * * In his essay "The Principles of Newspeak," the appendix to his classic novel, 1984 (published 60 years ago this month), George Orwell describes how the leaders of his totalitarian future have contrived to assure their hold on power by replacing English with Newspeak, a language containing no vocabulary for concepts contrary to the platform of the state-run Party. By controlling language, the Party controls its people's very thoughts. Intuition suggests that language is a product of thought: if we think clearly, automatically we will speak clearly. Orwell demonstrates the opposite, that thought is a product of language. Because we formulate our thoughts in words and sentences, incompetent use of language guarantees muddled thinking. If there are no words for rebellion, uprising, or discontent people will find it difficult to formulate and articulate the concept of overthrowing even the most corrupt and oppressive government. Students of Orwell will shudder when applying this simple axiom to the corruption of modern language. Advertisers and politicians have known for years that the best way to manipulate public perception is by arranging words in unconventional combinations. Car dealers know that potential customers will feel better buying cars that are "pre-owned" rather than "used." A certain former president knew that the American people would not respond to the gravity of his presidential peccadilloes if distracted by pondering what the meaning of "is" is. But linguistic confusion became institutionalized with the rise of political correctness. By dodging frantically out of the rain of potentially offensive terms, we soak ourselves in a torrent of euphemisms for simple words the thought-police deem pejorative. When illegal aliens become "undocumented workers," we lose all sense of the danger posed by the porous condition of our borders. When terrorists become "insurgents," we more readily accommodate the moral equivalence that blurs the line between aggressors and defenders. When abortion becomes "reproductive freedom," the horror over the indiscriminate murder of innocents vanishes altogether. Similarly, when marriage is bereft by judicial fiat of the definition that has served for thousands of years, the foundations of the family structure erode like sand castles before the approaching tide. And as it becomes taboo to make any direct reference to race, class, ability or performance without fear of hurting one group's collective feelings or another group's collective self-esteem, the words that form our thoughts and understanding end up so fully shorn of their dictionary definitions that they cease to mean much of anything at all. In short, nothing makes sense. * * * Is the Rabbi correct? Is destroying the definition of marriage the same as destroying marriage? http://www.jewishworldreview.com/0609/goldson_language_of_confusion.php3 http://www.jewishworldreview.com /0609/goldson_language_of_confusion.php3A rose is a rose is a rose. The definition of the word Marriage NEVER had anything to do with race. Interracial marriage was banned by law in years past, but those laws did NOT redefine the word Marriage. (1) 1856 Bouvier Law Dictionary gives "MARRIAGE. A contract made in due form of law, by which a free man and a free woman reciprocally engage to live with each other during their joint lives, in the union which ought to exist between husband and wife." (2) 1913 Webster's gives "Mar´riage n.1.The act of marrying, or the state of being married; legal union of a man and a woman for life, as husband and wife; wedlock; matrimony. Marriage is honorable in all. - Heb. xiii. 4." moreResolved Question: Why have car ads become artsy-fartsy?
Way back when, an ad for a car consisted of the car in question driving around and a narrator announcing the model's many attributes. Today, car ads seem to focus less on the car and more on the advertiser's creativity. Take the new Prius ad for example: it's people dressed up to look like the world and the sun waving their arms around. Why would this change occur? After all, I would think that the first type of ad would work better because it's more to the point and probably less expensive to make as well. moreVoting Question: Does this guy like me?
Okay so i was walking home yesterday from school and low and behold on my driveway is this guy. I get closer and realize how hot he is and he asks me if the owners of the house are there becaus he wants to know if they are interested in free promotional stuff from GE electrical company. So i tell him that my parents are gone but they'll be home fri/sat. Then i ask him if he is korean and other questions and i find out that he is 19 along with other stuff. we chat for a bit and then i tell him that it was nice to meet him. Later that day and into the next day i think about him because i am infatuated by how smart and cute he seems to be. I didn't think i would ever see him again because he was just an advertiser so what are the possibilities that he would ever come to my street again, you know? my best friend and i are driving around and we need to stop by my house and so as we are driving down the street, we don't see anyone. we go inside and when we come back out later to go to the car, i am INCREDIBLY surprised that he is in front of my house again, near my mailbox. he asks me if my parents are home and i say no but i'll be here tomorrow and my parents will be here friday. we talk for a bit and then i get in the car and talk to my bestfriend and he walks down the street. it's wierd because it seems as if he deliberately walks in our way and so i tell my friend to honk at him and he turns around and smiles and looks at me. so now i don't know if i'll ever see him again though i don't know if i'm overanyzling it or wishful thinking but i find that it was awfully a coincidence that he shows up around the same time again the day right after he tried to give away free services from his company. i mean come on, how many advertising people who walk around do you see more than once? and the day RIGHT AFTER? it's also funny that my bestfriend and i didn't see him when we were driving but somehow when we went inside and then came outside he was RIGHT THERE huh... it's seems like it was a little too planed out to be a coincidence i plan on inviting him in next time if he comes, if he ever will. i don't want to get my hopes up but this is the first time i've like a guy this much in a LONG time. it's kinda like like at first sight, ya know? i really hopes he comse again. if he does, i'll know that he likes me. plus the first time he saw me, i had no makeup on so yea.. but today i looked pretty good so any thoughts would be appreciated. do you guys think that he just "happened" to show up or did he purposely want to see me? moreResolved Question: What Do Advertisers Pay for Car Wrap Advertising? The markets you are trying to reach are people with common characteristics that set them apart as a group. Target market is successful because it focuses on one market segment. An illustration of this is people who drive compact cars due to their fuel efficiency form a benefit segment. I found this on a search for activities and shared interests. I was looking at cars and carparts. They posted Arts and Literature site and a gardening site. The directions seem to be open to people with knowledge on a topic. The actual responses to topics that seem normal are instead children's responses and language. Many of the answers are wrong and do not have a link and keep going to a book called twilight. I plan on buying a foreign car, our unions are nothing but criminals and extortionists and I refuse to support them. They are destroying this country through socialism and bullying people through bills such as this new 'freedom of choice' which is everything but freedom. They keep wanting to get higher wages for non-skilled labor and now they are getting ready to collapse the american economy. Seeing how our unions fought so hard for a socialist dictator in the White House, they can find support their fellow union members who are now losing their jobs left and right. I plan on only spending what I have to. I'll buy it at Wal-Mart which is non-union. I cut down on all my satellite TV except for Fox News. I refuse to let MSNBC and CNN have a dime of my money. I don't plan on giving one penny to any charity. The Government is giving enough of my money away. I'll put it into savings for my children so that way when their generation has an economic crisis they have a backup plan. Seeing how our fine leaders already spent their future. I won't rent or see a single hollywood movie. All the loud mouth liberals in the movies want to back people like Obama and Hugo Chavez, they can find someone else to support them. I've blocked CBS and NBC. If there is something I really feel the need to watch, I'll make a list of their advertisers and email every one of them telling them I will no longer buy their product. Until we get this socialist dictator out of the office and replace people like Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi and Prince Harry, I couldn't give a rip what happens in Washington. If you liberals want to support bigger spending, bigger Government, and want the country to be the Socialist Welfare States of America, go right ahead. You can be dependent on the Government all you want, it just won't be with any more of my money other than what I'm required to pay in taxes by law.Don, I agree with you on Wal-Mart. I like them here's a sneak peak of some: Take a look at some of the commercials that might air during Sunday's game. Pepsi: PepsiCo. will be the second-biggest advertiser during the Super Bowl with seven ads for the company's soda and snacks. The cola will be spreading its new slogan, "Refresh Everything," which resembles the logo President Barack Obama used during his campaign. One of the ads will feature singer Will.i.am. The company will also go 3-dimensional in one of its commercials. In a 3-D ad for SoBe Lifewater, the drink's popular lizards will appear alongside NFL stars and characters from the movie "Monsters vs. Aliens." The ad will reportedly feature the characters performing an interpretation of the ballet Swan Lake. Coke: Coke might have wrapped up the luckiest Super Bowl ad. One of the cola company's ads coincidentally features Pittsburgh Steelers player Troy Polamalu in a commercial for Coke Zero. While Coke hasn't released details of the ad featuring Polamalu, it is expected to be related to the 1979 Coke ad featuring the Steelers' Mean Joe Greene. Coke will also air two other ads in the second half. One will show insects trying to steal a bottle of Coke from a man sleeping in a park, and the other shows people turning into computer avatars. Doritos: Doritos will once again be featuring amateurs in its Super Bowl ad. The Frito-Lay brand received 1,900 videos from film makers all hoping to have theirs aired during the Super Bowl. The company picked five finalists: "Power of the Crunch," "Too Delicious," "The Chase," "New Flavor Pitch" and "Free Doritos." The videos are posted on CrashTheSuperBowl.com, where viewers can vote for their favorite. The winning video will be played during the game. Hyundai: Hyundai bought two Super Bowl slots. The company reportedly has four ads and its is trying to decide which two to air during the game. Among the finalists are one commercial featuring race driver Rhys Millen and one with cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Bridgestone: Bridgestone, which is also sponsoring the Super Bowl half-time show featuring Bruce Springsteen, will try to connect with viewers who are choosing to fix up their current cars rather than buy new ones this year. Hi I'm thinking of setting up a pixel site thats different (quirky) for people to put their links on. I was perhaps going to make it theme based like (http://www.bigbenpixels.co.uk/) and in the shape of a car for car advertisers or the shape of a house for landlords and letting agencies. (this is just an idea)... or just make it similar to the million dollar page , I was also going to try to gain advertisers by saying a cash prize of say 50 to a 100 pounds will be won by one of them at the end of a year period.etc I just wondered if you think this is an ok idea or will people just give it a widebirth and think "hmmm we've seen this before etc" I was looking through these kinda site the other day and must admit I was nearly tempted to buy some pixels in hope of more exposure to my blogs and websites as they lack in traffic, the pixels were 5 to 10 dollars each witch I thought was a bit costly. Im trying to think of something new and quirky and other reasons for a site like this is getting linkbacks from people when they advertise and thus making it viral. just wondered from peoples experience in marketing and the internet if this is a kinda good idea and how to work on it and if it could bring me in any money, if not from the pixel site maybe even from click throughs to my other adsense / affiliate sites. I am just about to start a classified website and I will have a banner on there for my pixel site too, im thinking if I add banners on my pixel site to blogs and websites with content that has high paying keywords maybe I could get some revenue this way. Im sure you know lots more clever ideas as a marketer, I'm a web builder but new to adsense and affiliate marketing. I have just recently made sales through my affiliate blog for the first time which made me smile. the script I'm thinking of buying for this site is fairly cheap at 20 dollars and I can upload and maintain it myself thats no problem, its just the marketing that im not great at, I also have adsense accounts and was thinking of having a couple of large banners myself on their with links to my affiliate sites please could you give me any advice that you think may be helpful with this project or do you just think that it is not a great idea. I was even thinkin of calling it 50pads or adpix50p and charching 50p a pixel at the top and maybe have that running for a year then the webmasters re advertise so as to generate more revenue for me, then having pixels at the bottom where people can advertise for free but they link back to my site oh well, its an idea ive had for a while I look forward to hearing from you soon hopefully thanks alot for your time moreResolved Question: what do yall think of this?
The Sexualization of Young Girls Media Influences Bratz Doll By Family Editorial Staff The report by the American Psychological Association: "Report of the Task Force on the Sexualization of Girls" focuses on the media culture and its impact on young American women over a long period of time. As a part of everyday life, for many the connection has not been made between the messages conveyed through media, and the self perception of a young person, in this case young girls. The report found:the APA Task Force on the of Girls Television * Youth-oriented programs are disproportionately male in focus * Have a tendency to objectify women. * Female characters are provocatively dressed and behaviors are coded with leering, ogling, staring, and catcalling at the bodies of female characters. * Of the 81 programs analyzed, 84% contained one of the following behaviors in order of the most to the least common: 1-Sexist comments (e.g., broad, bimbo, dumb ass chick, toots, fox, babe, blondie). 2-Verbal sexual objectification of women’s bodies. 3-Body language – involving sexual harassment i.e. jokes which characterized women as sexual objects. Music Videos * 44%–81% of music videos analyzed contain sexual imagery. * Women dress more provocatively than men * Are more likely to serve as decorative objects * Are least likely to play an instrument. * Women are displayed for sexual readiness. * Use sexual readiness to cross the threshold from teenager to adulthood, which conveys the message that sexual readiness is a sign of maturity Music Lyrics . * Researchers coded the content of 164 songs from 16 artists popular with teens. Overall, 15% of songs contained sexually degrading lyrics. Movies * "This gross under representation of women and girls in films with family-friendly content reflects a missed opportunity to present a broad spectrum of girls and women in roles that are non-sexualized". Cartoons and Animation * Are not free from the sexual objectification of young girls and women. * Female characters increasingly wear sexy costumes that don’t match the characters’, fewer clothes. Magazines * Girls and young women are repeatedly encouraged and given advices on how to look and dress for men, a phenomenon labeled “costuming for seduction." Sports Media * The 2008 Olympics provides a prime example of extensive coverage on sports women in minimal sportswear, which was not reflective of the female participants as a whole. Re Video/Computer Games * Games made for specialized systems and those made for personal computers contain highly sexualized content. Internet * "The wide popularity of sites like MySpace.com as well as blog centers has encouraged youth, including girls, to describe themselves on the Internet. Some girls have posed in provocative clothing and posted notices of their sexual availability". Report of the APA Task Force on the f Girls * A study found that 70% of teens 15–17 years of age had accidentally encountered pornography on the Internet, with 23% saying this happened somewhat or very often. Advertising * Women tend to be shown in a state of undress. * "When women are featured as “decorations” in ads (e.g., shown standing seductively next to a car to enhance the image of the car), their major purpose is to be looked at. They are treated as appendages to the product rather than as active consumers or users of the product". * Female models were placed in sexually exploitive positions "for others’ viewing pleasure". * Although advertisers are typically careful not to sexualize young girls directly, several advertising techniques do so indirectly: * "Some girl's/women's magazines includes sexual portrayals of adult women as young girls in advertising (schoolgirl clothing and licking lollipops or popsicles or wearing scaled-up versions of children’s clothing styles like baby doll dresses and tops, and knee socks, all marketed as adult women’s wear" Products Certain products can shape individual and societal expectations. * Dollsthat portray characters whose only interest are fashion, music, boys, and image. * Clothing– An increase in production of “sexy” clothing in child and teen sizes. * Cosmetics-The cosmetics industry targets younger and younger girls. "French perfumeries have introduced perfumes to the market specifically for little girls (e.g. “smellies”). In my car pool, we listen to Sean Hannity 2 of every 3 days and he keeps saying that Nancy Pelosi favors the return of the Fairness Doctrine to shut him and Neal Boortz and Rush Limbaugh down, but he doesn't say how that would be done. Isn't what he says protected by the First Amendment? His show is paid for by advertising and as long as advertisers pay for it to be aired, how can he be stopped. While I am nowhere as near far right as Hannity, I do identify with some of his position on things like taxes and illegal immigration. With liberals like Obama, Pelosi, and Reed in charge of the government, don't they have a voice? The way the doctrine is written would give Sean Hannity the right to give his side because the liberal side is being heard in the government. I don't want him or Alan Colmes or anyone silenced. Pelosi was the person who said that dialog on the Iraq war was crucial and her voice was heard. It would seem to me that if dialog is important, the an opposing view could be heard on the air waves as long as they pay the bills. moreResolved Question: why do people think its a good idea to let the big three go bankrupt?
No car company, ever, has returned from bankruptcy. I understand letting the strong survive, but the costs of letting them fail will be higher than trying to help them out. pensions will be government guaranteed (i.e. we will all pay for it), unemployment will sky rocket and we will lose close to 10% of our GDP. this affects more than just autoworkers, it will also be the industries tied to paychecks of the autoworkers, plus businesses related to the auto product (think of advertisers, transportation companies, uniform suppliers, and so on.) One more question....would you buy a car from a bankrupt automaker?...be truthful, I know I would not.I see your point, when does it stop, I'm not sure. But this a huge issue facing us, and something needs to be done. exactly what, I'm not sure, but siting by and doing nothing is the wrong solution.Mr. Taco, you hold a view of domestic cars that seems to be antiquated. when was the last time you test drove one of these pieces of "crap". But that is not the heart of the issue. Also I'm made no reference to the type of help offered, I'm not on board with an across the board bail-out ( even though they really want loans). Strict conditions do need to be placed if help is offered, they do need to change, but bankruptcy is to risky for all of us.exactduk, so you would want all foreign car companies? what do companies do in the absence of competition? They set the price they want. Plus they could never fill the void left by a B3 departure.
