Voting Question: What was introduced in the 1920s that allowed average Americans to purchase new appliances and automobiles?
Was it buying on credit, the New Deal, Prohibition, or advertising agencies? moreVoting Question: how can i reword this?
my daughter is driving while texting i have found these notes on the internet but i to make it so she understand im gonna have to reword this on i need help Texting on a cell phone is even more dangerous than talking. A study by Virginia Tech found that texting while driving on the highway increases the risk of having an accident twenty-three times. On average, a text message distracts a driver for about five seconds, which on a highway means about one-hundred yards. Off the highway, the University of Utah found that texting increases the risk eight times. 56% of teenagers admit to talking on their cell phones behind the wheel, while 13% admit to texting while driving. (Note: Because this information was given voluntarily by teens, actual cell phone use numbers may be much higher.) 48% of young Americans from 12-17 say they've been in a car while the driver was texting. 52% of 16- and 17-year-old teen drivers confess to making and answering cell phone calls on the road. 34% admit to text messaging while driving. In 2007, driver distractions, such as using a cell phone or text messaging, contributed to nearly 1,000 crashes involving 16- and 17-year-old drivers. Over 60% of American teens admit to risky driving, and nearly half of those that admit to risky driving also admit to text messaging behind the wheel. Each year, 21% of fatal car crashes involving teenagers between the ages of 16 and 19 were the result of cell phone usage. This result has been expected to grow as much as 4% every year. Almost 50% of all drivers between the ages of 18 and 24 are texting while driving. Over one-third of all young drivers, ages 24 and under, are texting on the road. Teens say that texting is their number one driver distraction. 'Texting' while driving is the act of composing, sending, or reading text messages, email, or making other similar use of the internet on a mobile device while operating a motor vehicle, such as an automobile, truck, or train. The practice has been viewed by many people and authorities as dangerous. It has also been ruled as the cause of some motor vehicle accidents, and in some places has been outlawed or restricted people have to stop. Texting while driving leads to increased distraction behind the wheel. In 2006, Liberty Mutual Insurance Group conducted a survey with more than 900 teens from over 26 high schools nationwide. The results showed that 37% of students found texting to be "very" or "extremely" distracting. A study by the AAA discovered that 46% of teens admitted to being distracted behind the wheel due to texting. One example of distraction behind the wheel is the 2008 Chatsworth train collision which killed 25 passengers. The subsequent investigation revealed that the engineer had sent 45 text messages while operating the train. A 2009 experiment with Car and Driver magazine editor Eddie Alterman that took place at a deserted air strip showed that texting while driving had a greater impact on safety than driving drunk. While legally drunk, Alterman's stopping distance from 70 mph increased by 4 feet; by contrast, reading an e-mail added 36 feet, and sending a text added 70 feet.[1] In the UK in 2009 Gwent Police worked with film maker Peter Watkins-Hughes and production company Zipline Creative to create the graphic short film "Cow", as part of a campaign to stop texting while driving.[2] The film earned honors in the Advertising Age's weekly Creativity Top 5 videos [3] and became an overnight worldwide internet hit after being shown on the American news program The Today Show.[4] On August 29, 2007, Danny Oates was killed by a young driver of a car, allegedly texting while driving. The defense had argued that driver Jeffrey Woods had possibly suffered a seizure during the time of the accident. [10] On January 3, 2008, Heather Leigh Hurd was killed by a truck driver who allegedly was texting while driving. Her father Russell Hurd has been actively supporting a law in various U.S. states called Heather's Law that would prohibit texting while driving. [11] The 2008 Chatsworth train collision, which killed 25 people, and which occurred on September 12, 2008, was blamed on the operator sending text messages while operating the train.[12] In 2009, a crash on the MBTA Green Line of the Boston area was blamed on a driver who was texting. This occurred nearly a year after the Newton, Massachusetts rail accident, which occurred on May 28, 2008, and was blamed on the operator using a cell phone while operating the train. A day after talk show queen Oprah Winfrey focused on the dangers of texting while driving, two members of the Georgia House of Representatives introduced bills that would ban the practice. “Don’t tempt fate,” said Rep. Amos Amerson (R-Dahlonega), quoting Winfrey. “That text or call can wait.” Amerson and Rep. Allen Peake (R-Bibb County) introduced similar bills that will likely me moreResolved Question: @N This is how the question was asked EXACTLY.?
Part II You are going to buy a car that will need to be financed. You will need to look at different options and decide which will be the best choice for your situation. You will need to find a car on the internet that you want to purchase. •Find an advertisement for a car that you would like to purchase. •You can look at any internet site, but you might consider: http://www.edmunds.com to learn how the advertised prices compare with market prices generally for cars of the same make, model and year. •Once you have found the automobile you want to purchase and determined how much you will be spending on the car, you need to calculate the monthly payments. Use the amortization calculator at http://www.bretwhissel.net/cgi-bin/amortize to calculate the monthly payments. •Calculate the monthly payment for your car for each option given below and complete the table. Loan |Interest Rate|Length in Years 1---------5%--------------------5 2--------7.5%-----------------3 3--------9.99%--------------4.5 4--------11.5%--------------2.5 5--------18%------------------4 So first I went to edmunds and found the car i wanted which cost $36, 050 then i went to her amortization calculator link, to find the monthly payments for my car using her information from the chart she provided. the calculator gave me the following which i added to the chart to complete it. Monthly Payment | Amortization Interest $ 1,359.22--------------------$ 416.68 $ 2,220.12--------------------$ 625.01 $ 1,779.69--------------------$ 832.51 $ 2,818.26--------------------$ 958.34 $ 2,426.94--------------------$ 1,500.01 then it asks: 1. Make a decision as to which Loan # is the best option. Explain your reasoning. 2. Think about what situations would make you decide NOT to take the Loan with the following criteria: •Lowest interest rate •Smallest monthly payment •Shortest time and this is EXACTLY what she asked and how i came about my previous question. please help i am SO frustrated and confused. moreResolved Question: can someone help me out with my us history?

I would really like to, just to make some cash on the side. I know i don't need a business license until I gross at least $1000 a month, and I don't think I would make more than $100! Now, I have been opening doors (car+house) for my friends who have misplaced keys, even impressioning new keys for friends that have lost their last key. I haven't come to a lock I could open somehow, apart from automobiles that require a microchip (many cars need one to turn on the car, but very few need one to open the door) between my lockpick, pick gun, bump keys, and this little electronic lockpick I made from a youtube instruct-able. I am not going to put an ad in the paper and try to compete with every smith in the area, but I would like to post around my town, as even here at my apartment complex they charge $40 to open a door for someone after hours, and $20 during hours, WHEN THEY HAVE SPARES, and employees ON the property. I would have no problem charging $10 for a lockout, undercutting that outrage and maybe helping someone out in the process. I am by no means an expert, and I would never charge someone if i couldn't open their lock. The other half of the question is do I need to ask/do to protect myself legally? If someone called and misrepresented themselves as the owner of a car/house/apartment and I opened it for them, I don't want to be called an accomplice! with a car I could just open the glovebox and check the registration, but what about homes?Second edit- Also, on your list, Im very happy with myself, I can do everything on that list apart from the key blank identification, unless thats the simple matter or looking for the key code, EG. sc1 is a a Schlage key, wr5 is weiser ect.Chris- Thank you! I have looked at the ALOA site myself, I didn't know they registered locksmiths. But, in my state, locksmith license is not required, at least according to http://www.aloa.org/legislation/Leg_Map/ALOA_Map.htm or is this referring to simply owning lockpicks? moreResolved Question: How can I locate an advertiser who is willing to pay to put a logo on my automobile?

Do you think this may be part of the reason we are in such a deep deficit? Any smart rational thinking republican or conservative knows that it is not entirely Obama's fault. Given the fact that this started during the term of the Bush administration. But I personally think that too many Americans cannot except the fact the we have a class system, and that we are always going to have the poor among us, and that some of us are not going to be able to live like others do, no matter how hard they try. And then there are those who do succeed by sucking the poor dry. There is a 19th century Philosopher that said this as well by the name of Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche. You have some poor out there that will go broke trying to pay off furniture and/or a automobile or brand name clothes like ambercrombie or even gucci; or people that will go out and buy $1000 set of rims or a bunch of hunting guns and ammo, but still live in trailer park in the outskirts or in a one room flat in a city. I blame some of this on constant advertising. Then you have the middle class that gambles with their savings as well. This nice cars that get changed every year just to impress their friends; or the two story house in the burbs with a white picket fence that they know they can't stay in forever because of rental or land costs. Oh and the constant splurging of money on things that may get used only once that then flood their garages full of junk. i believe that the middle class uses the most natural resources out of any other class in America. And then you have the rich who really don't care as long as they succeed and what the poor or middle class does doesn't effect them! So do you think Americans are a little too delusional in the way they go about spending money to suit their lifestyle? moreResolved Question: Has anyone sold a car on Porsche Club of America's website?

Strangely enough.... as poorly thought out and implemented as the Cash for Clunkers program is it actually is a very good concept for healthcare "reform". This program sets aside a pool of money. American citizens can choose to use this money or not. They can use this money to buy a car of their choice, as long as it meets certain standards. There is very little government interference in the choice of the consumer or the choice of the automobile dealer. The consumer can buy the car they want...the dealer is free to advertise its merchandise and to offer additional incentives. Apply this concept to healthcare, but rather than create a pool of money from other people's taxes the government can offer tax credits to individuals to pay for insurance. You can get the insurance that you want from the provider you want. The government will then offer up to "X" amount annually in tax credits to pay for it. This will modify your deductions on your W4 so you keep the money in each paycheck. It never goes to the government and thereby you do not need to apply for a refund to benefit from it. To be eligible you need to be enrolled all year...any partial year enrollments are credited on a pro rated basis. American citizens can choose their providers....companies are free to compete for new business and will likely see a rise in enrollments (driving down prices) as a result. Of course we will still need to take additional steps to reduce the actual COST of healthcare (tort reform, reduced regulatory costs) but isn't this is a great start?zaza - I voted for McCain albeit reluctantly. Of course we will still need to take additional steps to reduce the actual COST of healthcare (tort reform, reduced regulatory costs) but isn't this is a great start?Regrugg - Agreed. I was using the model as an example. In the healthcare implementation people would keep their OWN money to pay for their insurance. The principle is that the government allocate the money to be spent in the free market (as ironic as it is to allocate a person their own money)ej - It really didn't fail. It was just overwhelmed and may run out of money. This was a failure of planning and implementation (an Obama Administration trademark) The healthacre wouldn't run out of money because it just allows people to keep their own money to be spent on their own needs. on one of the pages it advertises "free wheeling Studebaker's contribution to motoring - the sensation of 1930! What is free wheeling? this is the question that thousands of motorists are asking. free wheeling is the second milestone in automobile development" it goes on to say "you shift from high to second, back and forth at 40-50 miles an hour, and never touch the clutch" "you need use the clutch only to start or back up" " the braking power of your engine is available as readily as in conventional cars" "for the first time in a motor car you can get the full benefit of momentum automatically. When your car has gone 10,000 miles your engine has only "worked" only 8,000 miles" "you save 12 per cent on gasoline, 20 percent on oil - even more in heavy traffic" could anybody help me figure out how much this is worth? moreResolved Question: Automobile manf. closing car dealerships?? why?
Dealerships are not owned by the manufactor. They have to buy everything including signs, inventory and provide the location. If they close the dealers it is political boondogle they are play on the administration. The problem with the companies is that they have no one in charge that know how to design, build and sell automobiles. You do not quit advertising and reducing selling points. Also if you do not have an intelligent rebuttal please feel free to grade the grammar.Sorry not one answer is informed. Although a dealer is franchised he buys EVERYTHING from the company and pay all the bills the company has no financial involvement. Reduce the dealers reduce the number of cars sold. I work for a GMC dealer and they have dropped medium duty trucks due to class 8 replacing that market. Pick-ups will continue to be a big seller in fly over country so they are not affected. moreResolved Question: A bunch of strange laws?

It is against the law to mispronounce the name of the State of Arkansas in that State. In Tennessee, it is against the law to drive a car while sleeping. In New York, it is against the law for a blind person to drive an automobile. In West Virginia, only babies can ride in a baby carriage. In Georgia, it is against the law to slap a man on the back or front. A barber is not to advertise prices in the State of Georgia. In Louisiana, a bill was introduced years ago in the State House of Representatives that fixed a ceiling on haircuts for bald men of 25 cents. In Oklahoma, no baseball team can hit the ball over the fence or out of a ballpark. In Utah, daylight must be visible between dancing couples. Seahunt is a corporation organized under the laws of Florida and engaged in various aspect of the scuba diving business. Part of its trade includes the sale of air compressors used to fill scuba diving tanks. Flipper is a corporation organized under the laws of Virginia. It operates a dive shop in Cancun, Mexico. Flipper learned about Seahunt from a nationally distributed magazine, Scuba Times. They telephoned Seahunt to see if they could provide a compressor that could fill 75-100 tanks an hour. Seahunt said that they could and sold Flipper a modified, super fast compressor. It didn’t work as well as advertised, it was much slower. It leaked and overheated. Seahunt could not fix the problem and would not pay Flipper back their money. At trial it was learned that Lloyd commingled Seahunt’s operating funds with his personal bank accounts. Seahunt operates out of a building owned by Lloyd and his wife and the business pays the mortgage as well as paying rent to the Bridges. Lloyd testified that some years the property is carried on Seahunt’s books as a corporate asset and in other years it is not. A similar arrangement exists with respect to an automobile owned by Lloyd. The corporation does not own the automobile, but it has been carried on Seahunt’s books as a fixed asset. Seahunt makes the car payments. Can Lloyd and his wife escape personal liability by asserting that the corporation is solely liable? State the reasons for your opinion. A battle weary American soldier boarded a crowded train in in London during the early days of post-WWII, only to discover he was unable to find a place to sit. As he walked the length of the train, he noticed a small white dog curled up on one of the seats. A large, well dressed woman sat in the seat next to the dog. The man hovered near the seat, hoping the woman would take the hint, but she pointedly ignored him. "Excuse me, Ma'am," the soldier finally spoke, "Is this your dog? Would you mind holding it on your lap so that I may sit down?" The woman raised her icy gaze to the young man and said in a haughty British accent, "oh! You Americans. You are so rude. Fluffy is in that seat, and i see no reason why she should give up her comfort for you." The exhausted soldier nodded, picked up the small dog ... leaned over ... opened the window of the moving train and tossed the dog out. The woman gaped and spluttered in horrified indignation, and the man sitting across from her lowered his newspaper. "You Americans", he said, "You drive on the wrong side of the road ... you eat with the wrong fork ... and you just threw the wrong bitch out the window." ......................................... well were doing a career profile in class, and since i want to go into business managment, i did mine on store managers, tell me what you think, and what ic an do to make it a little better. any help would be apprciated!! Store Manager Retail Store Managers usually manage stores such as supermarkets, grocery stores, electronic items, automobile parts, or household appliances. Here in Saint Louis stores such as Wal-Mart, Schnucks, and Circuit City all have a store manager who basically runs the place and makes sure everything is going good, and everyone is doing their job. Store Managers may plan advertising, and sales promotions, hire and train new staff, and control inventories. The manager of a large store is usually involved in setting policy that will be carried out by division heads. When managers aren’t to busy with their own work and its extremely busy in the store they may help out with simple jobs that have to be done, such as stock shelves or help bag for customers until it slows down a bit. In Larger stores they might direct other employees to get these jobs done. Most of the time these stores are kept clean. While places like jewelry stores have a quiet atmosphere, grocery stores and retail outlet stores are usually crowded and noisy. The working conditions for managers include a massive amount of walking and standing since the duties of managers may take them to every part of the store. Another important thing store managers do is analyze sales figures, and forecast future sales. Organizing special promotions, displays and events is something that is usually done by store managers. One thing a store manager should never do is ask someone to do something they wouldn’t do themselves. Anything they ask to be done, is something they do without a problem when its really busy or no one is available to do the job. Something that managers can do to show appreciation would be to take time out of their schedule to thank those who work overtime when its needed, or cover last minute schedules by writing them thank you cards, or something like that. A good way to make it a maintain a friendly atmosphere at the store would be by letting employees suggest ideas. It’s the managers job to motivate the employees around him in any way that can help increase sales. Most store managers work long hours, and have a lot of overtime, but it usually works out because they get bonuses, and job benefits such as health insurance. The average yearly salary for a store manager is around $60,000. However if you have experience and are managing a larger store you can make more than $100,000 with all the bonuses yearly. The business aspects of a store can be divided into four categories. Merchandising, which includes buying and selling, store operations which includes hiring personnel and receiving goods, accounting and bookkeeping, and advertising and promotion. There is a lot of responsibility on your shoulders, especially if you are a store manager of a very large store such as Wal-Mart. You have to make sure everything is done, and basically run the whole place. Its not an easy task, as managers are always running around the store looking for things that can be done and then assigning someone to get it done. Dealing with all kinds of customers is a daily thing when you are a manager of any store. moreResolved Question: Sold a Defective Automobile by Dealer?
MY wife found a car on the internet. We are in Florida (sucky consumer protection state). The dealer has an as is warranty policy. Before signing anything, my wife asked if there were mechanical problems, she was told there were none. The internet ad does not list any problems with the car. She took it for a test drive with no apparent problems. When she got home, it overheated, We looked and there was no fluid in the radiator. The battery died overnight which we replaced. Now the car refuses to start. The dealership refuses to speak with us. They worked on the car to make it look new, especially the engine. So, it appears there is more wrong with this car than advertised and what they represented. Maybe this is why they have an as is warranty policy. You sell a defective car and you are off the hook. Any advice on this? Do we have any rights under Florida Law?btw, my wife checked all fluids. Engine was detailed to make it brand new looking. She specifically asked for problems was assured there were none. Checked car on Carmax, said car was not in an accident. She wouldnt have bought car if there were problemsThanks all Just to add, my wife did what any normal prudent person would do when buying a car. moreResolved Question: math word problem help?

I don't know a lot about car engines and I know less about electric engines. I've heard the Prius type of hybrid will likely be the future for all cars. However, I wonder if that tiny 1.3 litre engine has enough guts for a mid-size or large-size automobile or a crossover XUV to punch it in order to merge onto the freeway? I'd like to hear a mechanic's take on the Prius type of hybrid as to acceleration for the larger vehicles, 0 to 60mph, for merging on the freeway. I’d also like to know a mechanic’s opinion whether or not the gasoline engine can take the wear of a lot of long distance highway driving say over five years. Lastly does the gasoline engine turn a generator or an alternator to make electricity for electric engine on the drive train. The advertising diagram says generation, but I believe the electric engine uses alternating current.Good answers. I asked because hybrid sales, are only about 5 percent of the total market. But it seems all the majors have announced they are making the changeover. From an economic perspective, the engine is a bargain. If the price of gas is a bubble and the bubble bursts then the hybrid is even a BETTER bargain, not a lesser one. You get the savings of the lower gas prices, PLUS added to that the savings from the far better mileage. What you spend on gas each month would seem next to nothing if you drove a V-6 or V-8 before. If the price of gas is not a bubble and the price of gas continues to go up, the hybrid allows you to still afford gas, furthermore, it protects your overall budget from being decimated by every increasing gas prices. Frankly I don't believe in global warming, but the economic advantages of the hybrid are sound. If the engine is as reliable and performs just as good as a V-6, you'd be unwise not to buy one, unless you like literally burning money.Good answers. I asked because hybrid sales, are only about 5 percent of the total market. But it seems all the majors have announced they are making the changeover. Chimpanzees are being used more and more in television advertising. They are especially effective in credit card advertising, because they represent a consumer who lost control over buying. They will not be used in automobile advertising however, because a trial run was made with a chimp driving a car and was snacking on a banana while driving. The chimp threw the banana peel onto the highway causing the car behind it to skid and run off the road into quicksand. The alert chimp saw this happen and made a quick u-turn to help the driver get out of the quicksand. Surprisingly, the distressed driver was another chimpanzee and was angered for losing his banana in the quicksand, not the car. So, should chimpanzees be used in auto advertising? Goofy and serious answers appreciated. Best one wins ten pointsHa, ha ha, funny answers here. Actually, this question is a parody. COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS OFFICE OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND BUSINESS REGULATION 10 Park Plaza - Suite 5170, Boston MA 02116 (617) 973-8700 FAX (617) 973-8799 TTY/TDD (617) 973-8790 www.mass.gov/consumer DEVAL L. PATRICK GOVERNOR TIMOTHY P. MURRAY LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR DANIEL C. CRANE DIRECTOR FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 19, 2007 CONTACT: Kimberly Haberlin (617) 973-8767 (617) 947-8942 Consumer Affairs Issues Consumer Alert on Advance-Fee Loan Scam And Pay Day Loans BOSTON - The Office of Consumer Affairs and the Division of Banks today issued a consumer alert warning consumers about a potential advance-fee loan scam and an illegal pay day loan operation recently advertised in the Boston Metro. ADVANCE-FEE LOAN SCAM Advance-fee loan scams generally involve the promise of easy credit regardless of credit history. Upon completion of a loan application, the entity requires a consumer to wire a percentage of the loan amount, various fees, or payment of insurance in order to secure the loan. Upon collection of the fee, the loan is never delivered. Amcorp Capital is operating a website at www.amcorpcapital.com. The only contact information provided on the web site is a toll free telephone number and an email address. The web site also lists a business address of One Boston Place, Boston, Massachusetts. Amcorp Capital claims to offer mortgage loans, education loans, personal loans, and automobile loans. This entity is not licensed by the Division of Banks and calls to the company have not been returned. An investigation by the Division of Banks has determined that no such business is located at the One Boston Place address. Moreover, the Amcorp Capital’s web site was apparently created on April 11, 2007. Similar to other advance-fee loan scams, the website promotes the availability of easy credit regardless of credit history. Based upon discussions with consumers, Amcorp apparently requires, upon completion of a loan application, that a percentage of the loan be paid up front directly via wire transfer. The Office of Consumer Affairs and Division of Banks strongly urges consumers not to do business with this entity. “This has all the earmarks of an advance-fee loan scam,” noted Director of Consumer Affairs Daniel C. Crane. “Consumers should know that no legitimate lender would require an upfront payment to secure a loan. Consumers should also be extremely cautious when dealing with companies that you do not know. All efforts should be made to safeguard your personal information such as bank account, credit card, or social security numbers. For more information on advance loan scams please see information from the Federal Trade Commission available at http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/tmarkg/loans.shtm. ILLEGAL PAY DAY LENDER Director Crane also announced that Commissioner of Banks Steven L. Antonakes had sent a letter to the Boston Metro requesting that the publication cease accepting print advertisements from pay day lenders. Commissioner Antonakes sent a similar letter to the Boston Metro in February 2005 and the newspaper, until recently, had not run advertisements for pay day lenders. “Pay day loans carry exorbitant interest rates and can quickly lead consumers into escalating debt,” said Director Crane. “There is also a high risk of identity theft as this company’s advertisement provides virtually no identifying information.” Commissioner Antonakes added, “There are no payday lenders licensed or based in Massachusetts. Under the state’s small loan law, annual interest rates on these loans are capped at 23% and fees are limited to $20. Pay day lenders typically charge annual percentage rates averaging 300 percent and fees averaging $30.” Pay day loans are short term, small sum, high rate, unsecured personal loans that use consumer checking accounts (either post-dated checks or electronic access) to secure repayment of the amount borrowed. Repayment of the full amount and lender fees are typically due within 14 days or with the borrower's next paycheck. Partial payments are rarely allowed so if a borrower can't repay the full amount within the required timeframe, the loan is usually rolled over for additional periods of time and additional fees. If you believe you have been a victim of this advance-fee loan scam or pay day loan operation, call the Division of Banks’ Consumer Assistance Unit at 1-800-495-BANK (2265).DON'T FALL FOR THIS COMPANY!!! moreResolved Question: Buying a BMW 1993 with 130k miles, a good Idea?
