Resolved Question: What do you look for when shopping online?
I'm looking to increase my web sales, and am having trouble competing with the "big names" that send a paper catalog every 3 weeks.... I have a small business, specialty sport retail, with high-end, and mid-priced quality equipment and apparel. Great customer service (we've been told), 9 out of 10 employees actively compete in our sport, yet it's been tough to transfer the in-store success to our website (as far as profit). We get the hits and page views, and items in the cart, yet people won't "pull the trigger" and actually purchase! It's driving me nuts! Sure, we sent coupons to current clients, promo codes in advertising, do banner ads....and all that seems to "discount" us, and ends up losing $ in the long run. Any other small businesses see growth online?? moreResolved Question: How does a website earn through online advertising?

Ok, I need help/opinions. I am an ecommerce operations manager for a major retail apparel website. And our area of the company has grown enormously in the last year so there has been more focus and money thrown at us (since online businesses are growing at a rapid pace nowadays). So things have been restructured a bit and I just acquired a new boss. She told me flat out that what I get paid ($45,600) is way below industry standards….so she is going to work on getting me more money. Especially since new people below me will be brought in (since we are much larger part of the business now) at/around my current salary. But she wants me to do research to see what other people in my role are getting paid. I did plenty of research…looked on monster, salary.com, simply hired.com, but didn’t come up with anything informative. When I did searches for my title…it gave me a general salary…which was inbetween $65-80,000 a year. But none of them really came with descriptions. So when I presented this to my boss, she said that because they don’t have descriptions, this information isn’t exactly credible (since those positions might not be exactly what I do). So just reaching out -- asking if anyone can give me any information on what is accurate pay for an Ecommerce Operations Manager? If you are one, or know someone who is in this role…if you could give me any type of credible information that I could give to my supervisor, would be an enormous help! A little background, I’ve been working for this company for almost 5 years. I came fresh out of college starting out as product setup person (set up and pushed all new product to the site)…also did a lot of photoshop touch up work. But since then I’ve been promoted 4 times. But here is some of what I do: Responsible for on time execution and accuracy of all online content, art and site promotional programs. Manages the operations team to ensure all new site updates are implemented on schedule. (2 people report directly to me) Responsible for managing the process to push all products to the site, as well as all landing pages and banners. Creates, controls and updates all navigational changes. Creates collections of product for each trend or promotion being advertised on web or through email,. Build an online catalog for each mail piece The in-house expert for all ecom operations systems/tools. Trains all operations team members in tools, and production practices including QA processes. Works with merchant team to assure satisfactory representation of all products online. Proofs and approves all emails prior to scheduling. Review daily online analytics for visitor behavior online using Omniture and other reporting Responsible as the team lead in new feature or site development on an ongoing basis. Advanced in Photoshop, Scene7, Dreamweaver, HTML, and our ecom ops tools Again, any help or information would be great…really trying to get a salary bump! Thanks so much. moreVoting Question: WHY DO WEBSITES GET AWAY WITH FALSE ADS?

Those adverts and banners for Evony Online have popped up all over the internet (including on this site), and I myself am getting tired of them. As far as I'm concerned it is blatant false advertising, they are using images of models (usually of a provocative nature) to advertise a game which is, if anyone has actually had a look, a severely downgraded version of age of empires. I remember advertisements for some online game but i never got around to looking at it. It was apparently some sort of strategy game where combat had a sort of rock-paper-scissors strategy it looked like. If you clicked on the advertisement, it gave you a bit of a demo. The only unit i can recall from it was some knight wearing really bulky armor attacking with a gigantic lance (and somewhere doing so while holding a massive shield in the other). What game is that and is it any good?no it wasn't adventurequest or anything from battleon. it advertised itself as a 'tactical strategy' game. you moved the units around a grid that represented the battlefield, it was sort of like a wargame. if no one knows about it, then i guess it means it sucks. moreResolved Question: How do I make a banner with a link to show on my emails and forum posts?

Sony Started as a radio repair shop, founded by Masuru Ikura and Akio Morita after Would War II. The company began its long history of producing compact consumer electronics in 1957, when it introduced the World’s first pocket-sized all-transistor radio. The company’s name, Sony, was taken from Sony, the Latin word for “sound” Sony went on to invest a series of transistor-based TVs and increasingly smaller audiocassette recorders. In 1979, the Sony Walkman introduced the World to a new, portable way of listening to music. Sony became a world leader in consumer electronics and was the first Japanese company to have its shares traded on the New York Stock Exchange. In the late 1980s, Sony began expanding into media, purchasing a U.S. record company (CSB records for $22 billion in 1988). And a major Hollywood studio (Columbia Pictures for $4.9 billion in 1989). The purchases made Sony a major force in the entertainment industry. The importance of marketing at Sony started with Akio Morita, who said that for a company to be successful, it must have three kinds of creativity: creativity to make inventions, creativity in planning and production, and creativity in marketing. Creativity in marketing at Sony means not just cleaver ads, but deep insight into its customers. For example, Sony knows its playstation customers like to find clues and to decode things. So Sony’s ads for playstation 2, like “Signs,” feature a young man walking the streets of a city where he encounters various signs foreshadowing the events. Mannequins appear in a store window, arms outstretched, and point enigmatically to something that’s about to happen. “The lead character is almost in the midst of his own role-playing game. He needs to follows clues to save the heroine”, said Andrew House, Sony’s executive vice president of marketing. In the ads, “we were essentially trying to tap into a range of emotions that we think we deliver in the games – intrigue, forebonding, excitement, panic, relief and achievement at the end”. Sony’s marketing also includes careful measurement of each campaign’s effectiveness. Foe example, Sony runs 30-second commercials for its Playstation as part of the previews in more than 1,800 theatres and on 8,000 movie screens. The ads appear before such films as “The Cat in the Hat”. Sony Computer Entertainment America has been running movie ads for six years.” Cinema advertising has been very effective for us”, said Amil Blaire, director of product marketing.” The reason why we have committed to cinema every year is the tremendous unaided recall shown by our own research and communicus – commissioned ad tracking”. Another example of measurement is Sony’s GenY youth marketing efforts. “The online program promoting the NetMD ATRAC CD Walkman and Cybershot U30 ran July 1 through September 30, 2003, and we found that more than 70 percent static banners”, said Serge Del Grosso, Director of Media and Internet Strategy, Sony Electronics”. In fact, Sony has even developed a direct-marketing solution which it sells to other companies who want to measure marketing effectiveness. The product, called eBridge[TM], allows marketers to use video, measure the effectiveness of the campaign, and gain insight into the target audience, all in one package. Sony expects that the next big breakthrough will not come from a single new electronic device.Rather, Sony President Kunitake Ando says that the future lies in making a whole range of devices more usefully linking them in a networked home-entertainment system. The company believes that its clout in consumer electronics, combined with its media content, will allow it to steer that convergence in a way that suits it. Whether the future of convergence resides in TV’s or PC’s or devices , $62-billion Sony makes every one of them- with a strong brand name that gives them an extra push off retail shelves around the world. 1. What have been the key success factors for Sony? 2. What recommendations would you make to senior marketing executives going forward? What should they he sure to do with its marketing? moreResolved Question: Tell your favorite joke?
This has to be my most favorite joke..... Im not that good at telling jokes so luckily i found it online and "copied and pasted" it here. A psychotherapist was having a roaring business since he started from scratch. So much so that he could now afford to have a proper shop banner advertising his wares. So he told a kid to paint the sign board for him & put it above his shop entrance. But, instead of his business building up, it began to slacken. My friend owns a shop which sells gifts for things like Christenings, Anniversaries, etc. He has now got a website to sell his stock. He has paid Google to advertise it. However, when I type in things like "Christening gifts" I can't even see his website on the first few pages! He has used the words (I forgot what you call them) to make the site come up to people searching in Google, but it hasn't helped. I said that I think the more a site is used, the more popular it becomes, and the higher up the Google page it gets. Is this true? Also, what do you think of advertising on Facebook? Is it worth it? Or perhaps a group set up to send round to people? What can he do to attract people to his website? Do banner swaps work? I've also tried daft things like putting his website address on the top of my MSN as I have quite a few contacts. This has attracted a couple of curious people, but no buyers. I also keep telling him that he need to sell birthday gifts as he sells stuff for other occasions, even graduations. I also think he needs more of a range as a lot of the stock is just photo frames. I also suggested creating an Ebay shop where he could link it to his website. What do you think? Help! Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks! :) Also, do you think I should get paid for all my help! lol just kidding! moreResolved Question: How to promote online (advanced and real please)?

I work as a graphic designer for a small company that produces a various array of products for its clients. Lately I've become vary concerned if what we are asked to do is sometimes legal. We don't advertise ourselves as graphic designers. Often people will come in and ask us to print an image they found online onto a banner or poster. Sometimes they will just give us a disk with the image on it, and ask us to print it. We don't even ask where it comes from. most of the time its some popular fad, like transformers or madagascar. We often get people wanting a football team logo for their window or a poster made, and we sometimes have to recreate it to a higher resolution. We're making money off of it, so I'm wondering if what we are doing is actually legal? Not too long ago I joined an online art gallery called Sheezyart.net. It's a place were you can submit your art there & join a wide range of clubs. You can also create your own club so I decided to create a few of my own. One of them is called: Autistics for anime, manga & writing.Being a person with Asperger Syndrome,(a "mild" form of autism which is putting it lightly),I felt that there should be more places for people with autism & all of it's spectrum's to have a place to express themselves in anyway they'd like. And my club is not only just for those with autism but for people who have friends & loved ones who might have autism or any other sort of condition & they could learn about what we go through & how we see the world. Again,if your autistic and have an interest in drawing, writing stories, poems, art trades you can do so at my club. I go by the same screen name as I do on here & hope that by advertising my little club that many people who wish to express themselves in a creative way will have a place to do so. Also if you want to you can tell your friends about this place & spread the word if you'd like. Just go to Shezzyart.net & look for the colorful banner that says: Autistics for anime, manga,& writing & join whenever you'd like. PS: Since Sheezyart is sort of going through some up dating it has been act a bit wonky but I don't believe that it will be too much of a problem.
