Ok I know this sounds quite stupid but a couple of days ago I was in the John Lewis on Oxford Street, and someone sprayed a really nice perfume on me but I didn't see what it was. He was standing near the Chanel counter and there were some big banners advertising it, which I think had a large rectangular bottle with slightly curved sides and definitely had a golden coloured perfume in. I've been on the Chanel website and I think it's either No.5 or Coco, but I'm not sure why they would be advertising those when they're not new, I guess No.5 is more likely because it's like the classic... Suddenly, these banners are showing up on my screen that say "interactive advertising"...they are usually in the sidebars of different sites and they're video and LOUD. Then, delete the cookies already present in your cache and restart (this may take a few tries, but it will eventually be deleted). It worked for me and now, my computer won't connect with the site to allow its banner ads to install cookies or play on my computer. Oh, happy day! more

I have a very cool little app I wrote in Windows Presentation Foundation, and I need to know the best way to make it profitable. The trick is its purpose and therefore its intended user base (audience). It's an app for finding, prioritizing, downloading, and opening .torrent files. Obviously, the majority of people who will use this application aren't usually willing to pay for things. That's why I thought advertising banners might be the way to go. However, that route gets complicated since Google Adsense doesn't allow ads to be placed in desktop apps. Is there an ad service that pays for advertising in desktop apps? Should I use advertising at all or a paid registration type model? Should I offer a trial period? Should I offer a "stripped" version that's free? For a couple of months I've had this weird sound come up at random times. Really random, and not very often. It simply is this male deep voice that says: " WARNING! " And that's it, no advertising or anything else, just the word WARNING. For months I thought it was coming from my browser, some pop up ad or banner ad inserted in the webpages. like the ones that say " congratulations, you've won" and stuff of the same nature. But about a week ago i realized it came up like 3 times in a period of 2 hours when I had no web browsers open. And I have been picking that up more and more, it does it when no web pages or web browsers are open. I even had it come up right after a reboot. There is no pattern, and there is no system process I can identify in at the windows task manager. I'm using windows 7 and have scanned it with antiviruses and anti spy/adware programs. nothing is found. Anybody out there know what it is ? or any procc name to check for ? more

After infecting a user’s system, it proceeds to scare its victim into buying the “product” by displaying fake security messages, stating that your computer is infected with spyware and only Antivirus Soft can help you to remove it after you download the trial version. As soon as the victim downloads Antivirus Soft trial version, it pretends to scan your computer and shows a grossly exaggerated amount of non-existent errors. Then, Antivirus Soft offers to buy the full version to fix these false errors. If the user agrees, Antivirus Soft does not only fix the errors, but it also takes the user’s money and may even install additional spyware into the victim’s computer. Some Rogue Anti-Spyware, such as Antivirus Soft, may offer users to buy it after the victim clicks on a banner or a pop-up while surfing the internet. Usually, a Trojan is installed to a victim’s computer after clicking on the advertisement. It then proceeds to download or even install Antivirus Soft, which is another way for Rogue Anti-Spyware to spread itself. Most of rogue Anti-Spyware, such as Antivirus Soft, is nearly impossible to remove manually. How to tell if your Computer is infected? Numerous undesirable and annoying pop-ups: A typical Rogue Anti-Spyware parasite keeps track of your internet browsing habits, sending your browsing history data to remote servers, owned by third party companies that use this information to advertise their products via numerous pop-ups, toolbars, hijacked homepages and spam letters. All these undesirable advertising methods are used on the victims of Rogue Anti-Spyware. Changed or new icons: Sometimes, Rogue Anti-Spyware installs unwanted software to a victim’s PC without user’s knowledge and consent. This may lead to slower PC performance and stability, as well as more unwanted programs you can't remove. more

I'm looking to increase my web sales, and am having trouble competing with the "big names" that send a paper catalog every 3 weeks.... I have a small business, specialty sport retail, with high-end, and mid-priced quality equipment and apparel. Great customer service (we've been told), 9 out of 10 employees actively compete in our sport, yet it's been tough to transfer the in-store success to our website (as far as profit). We get the hits and page views, and items in the cart, yet people won't "pull the trigger" and actually purchase! It's driving me nuts! Sure, we sent coupons to current clients, promo codes in advertising, do banner ads....and all that seems to "discount" us, and ends up losing $ in the long run.
