This assignment is really confusing me, please help me sort this out!! Thank you. Here's what I have: 1.1801—Jefferson approved the annual tribute payment to the Barbary States of North Africa (reluctantly) 2.February 1804—Lt. Resolved Question: Why does the OECD think that Finland's education system is so great?

When Finland has the second highest young male suicide rate in the world? The number of women going to university far exceed the number of men, and men are often pushed into trades before they are old enough to make an informed decision about their future. Young male suicide rates are in descending order, Iceland, Finland, New Zealand and Australia. In Australia, our Depyty PM Ms. Gillard, is trying to introduce the same system along with school ratings, the idea being taken from the UK. As usual, no one cares about young males and women in power just push to gain more rights for girls and women under the under the banner of "Equality". That is why one of the only ways that young males have to fight back, is to refuse to marry women and thus deny them of what most have as a major ambition: A loving husband and children. more

Resolved Question: Poll: Constitution Party? or Libertarian Party?

Which party would you rather affiliate with? Constitution Party: According to the editor of Ballot Access News, which periodically compiles and analyzes voter registration statistics as reported by state voter agencies, it ranks third nationally among all U.S. political parties in registered voters, with 384,722 registered members as of February 2008.[3] The Constitution Party now calls itself, "America's Fastest Growing Political Party." The Constitution Party advocates a platform which it says aims to reflect the principles of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States, the Bible, and the Bill of Rights. In 2006, Rick Jore of Montana became the first Constitution Party candidate elected to a state-level office,[4][5] although the Constitution Party of Montana had disaffiliated from the national party a short time before the election. On April 26, 2008, Chuck Baldwin was nominated as the Constitution Party candidate for President of the United States in the 2008 election. Libertarian Party: The Libertarian Party is a United States political party founded on December 11, 1971.[1]In the 30 states where voters can register by party there are over 200,000 voters registered with the Libertarian Party, making it one of the largest of America's alternative political parties.[2] Hundreds of Libertarian candidates have been elected or appointed to public office, and thousands have run for office under the Libertarian banner.[3] The political platform of the Libertarian Party reflects that group's particular brand of libertarianism, favoring minimally regulated, laissez-faire markets, strong civil liberties, minimally regulated migration across borders, and non-interventionism in foreign policy that respects freedom of trade and travel to all foreign countries.[4]Somebody who answers this question with 'neither' is bored. more

Resolved Question: Which oil companies is it okay to accept funding from?

In another question I linked to a site (www.co2science.org) which listed various studies on the Medieval Warm Period. I was criticised for this choice of site as it has accepted funding from Exxon (which i already knew, having checked Sourcewatch). From what I can gather, the criticism is that any organisation which accepts funding from a big oil company is, by that very fact, dubious. Now, I'm not sure that's particularly true (it may just be that the company feels that the organisation's efforts or research is likely to coincide with its own) but if that's the case, then what about the research from the Climate Research Unit and the Tyndall Centre who as we now know have approached Shell for funding, as the email below shows: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ""SHELL INTERNATIONAL Mick Kelly and Aeree Kim (CRU, ENV) met with Robert Kleiburg (Shell International’s climate change team) on July 4th primarily to discuss access to Shell information as part of Aeree’s PhD study (our initiative) and broader collaboration through postgrad. student project placements (their initiative), but Robert was also interested in plans for the Tyndall Centre (TC). What ensued was necessarily a rather speculative discussion with the following points emerging. Shell International would give serious consideration to what I referred to in the meeting as a ‘strategic partnership’ with the TC, broadly equivalent to a ‘flagship alliance’ in the TC proposal. A strategic partnership would involve not only the provision of funding but some (limited but genuine) role in setting the research agenda etc. Shell’s interest is not in basic science. Any work they support must have a clear and immediate relevance to ‘real-world’ activities. They are particularly interested in emissions trading and CDM. Robert seemed to be more interested in supporting overseas (developing world) than home/EU studentships, presumably because of the credit abroad and their involvement in CDM. (It is just possible this impression was partially due to the focus on Aeree’s work in the overall discussion but I doubt it.) It seems likely that any support for studentships would be on a case by case basis according to the particular project in question. Finally, we agreed that we would propose a topic to this year’s MSc intake as a placement with Shell and see if any student expressed interest. If this comes off we can run it under the TC banner if it would help. I would suggest that Robert and his boss are invited to the TC launch at the very least (assuming it will be an invite type affair). Question is how can we and who should take this a step further. Maybe a meeting at Shell with business liaison person, Mike H if time and myself if time? I’d like to/am happy to stay involved through the next stage but then will probably have to back off. We didn’t cover the new renewable energy foundation. Mick Kelly 11 September 2000"" uea-tyndall-shell-memo.doc ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What "role in setting the research agenda" did Shell get, and why is it not a problem that the Tyndall Centre accepts money from Shell, BP and other oil companies, and lets them shape the "research agenda" but when a website accepts a donation from an oil company, then any study it so much as refers to is suspect? Double standards? .EDIT - @ Don't Panic. You wrote: ""It's a question of the driving force behind the research. Who wants the research to be done and for what purpose. "" ~ So it's okay for the CRU to take money from those nice people at Shell because their intentions are pure? (Like justifying emissions trading, eh?) The driving force behind my question? I want to understand why some people feel its fine for big oil companies to have a role in shaping the research agenda (when it's clear that their only motivation is making money from emissions trading) when the research agrees with what they believe. But when the an oil company funds research or a site that says stuff they disagree with, all of sudden that connection means we can't believe any of it. .---------------------------------------------------- EDIT @ Dawei Good point. I should of included a link to a cached copy of the (now deleted) CRU History page at the University of East Anglia. http://66.102.9.132/search?q=cache:http://www.cru.uea.ac.uk/cru/about/history/ As you will see, Shell, BP - and Greenpeace - are listed amongst their sources of funding (scroll to bottom of page for list). . more

Resolved Question: history help war of 1812!!!?

Which statement best describes the election of 1800? (Points: 1) The election of 1800 proved how unnecessary the Electoral College was in choosing the president. The election showed that it was finally Thomas Jefferson's chance to be president, so he won in a landslide. This election went to the House of Representatives and led to an amendment to the Constitution. John Adams would have won, but he and Aaron Burr got in a duel and he was killed, so Thomas Jefferson became president. 2. The United States in 1800 had grown in what ways? (Points: 1) Both farming and manufacturing had increased. Kentucky and Tennessee had become states. The population had grown significantly. All of the above 3. How did Thomas Jefferson change after he became president? (Points: 1) He wanted to restrict further trade with England because the cotton gin was helping America. He completed the Louisiana Purchase despite there being no provision for doing so in the Constitution. His stand on states' rights prevented him from adding to the territories belonging to the United States. He gave up all his slaves because he realized that slavery was wrong. 4. How did the Louisiana Purchase benefit the United States? (Points: 1) It doubled the size of the country and guaranteed U.S. control of the Mississippi River. It created a barrier between the states and the American Indian tribes to the west. It prevented the Spanish from capturing that part of the United States and taking over the Mississippi River. It generated income that freed the nation of significant debt incurred during the War of 1812. 5. Why was the Senate vote to declare the War of 1812 so close at 19 for and 13 against? (Points: 1) Because many in the Senate, especially Federalists, believed the war was a bad idea. Because some of the Senators had left Washington to return home for the summer recess, so they could not vote. Because even though the British had agreed to attack Canada, they did not provide enough soldiers to do so. Because the Secretary of War had irritated many of the senators by refusing to increase the size of the navy. 6. When the Treaty of Ghent was signed and the War of 1812 ended, what was the outcome? (Points: 1) The British got a large part of the Louisiana Purchase despite losing New Orleans. The United States got the rights to the Mississippi River and all of its tributaries. Neither side gained nor lost territory, and both sides reverted to their positions before the war. Both the British and the Americans lost territory, and the French gained territory while they were fighting. 7. Which of the following people was not involved in the War of 1812? (Points: 1) Andrew Jackson Henry Clay James Madison Thomas Jefferson 8. Which of the following events was not a part of the War of 1812? (Points: 1) "The Star Spangled Banner" was written. Washington, D.C. was burned. Louisiana became a state. The Battle of New Orleans was fought. 9. Look at the map and choose the answer that best describes what it shows. (Points: 1) The Louisiana Purchase The movement of troops during the War of 1812 The Lewis and Clark expedition The westward movement of Native Americans as their territory was encroached upon 10. What did the Treaty of Ghent, which ended the War of 1812, achieve? (Points: 1) It set up a peaceful process for settling future disputes. It reconciled the Native Americans with both the British and the Americans. It defined the use of the Mississippi River and its eastern tributaries. All of the above more

Resolved Question: Got the chance of a nice weekend away?

My hubby works for a trade union and his summer outing is tomorrow. he has been booked into a nice hotel in surbitan afterwards and on the saturday, he has been asked to drive down to ~Brighton for the Gay pride march, where a banner is needed for his colleagues who will be promoting their trade union in the march. He has preliminary arranged for me to make my way to the hotel tomorrow when I finish work and then I will be able to join him for the trip to Brighton. I love the Gay Pride march it is fantastic, so this would be a lovely way for us to spend our saturday. With us both working our weekends are precious to us. But also, we have just come back from holiday, so money is a bit tight until the next payday, next week. So I am inclined not to go. I wont drive I will go by train and basically for a night away and a trip to brighton it will only cost me the train fair. As the hotel has been paid for and my hubby claims petrol expenses for any business trips. Would you go if you were me?? more

Resolved Question: Is it true that the Rockets passed on Michael Jordan TWICE?

I know I aksed a similar question some time ago, but I've heard from Rockets fans that there was an opportunity to give MJ the chance to be a Rocket. One scenario was pitting MJ with Sampson, which would've been a sick combination at the time. But an even sicker scenario would've been MJ, the Dream, and Clyde the Glide on the same team. It would've sounded insane to trade Sampson, a promising young player in 1984, for Clyde the Glide and Portland's pick, but the combo of MJ, the Dream, and Clyde the Glide would've been insane itself. Had all those players had the careers they had, the Rockets would've owned the NBA. Luckily, the Rockets can be thankful that they've got two championship banners.Well So long...Rasheed, one of the scenaries would've meant Houston having Olajuwon AND Jordan, as well as Drexler, even if it meant trading Sampson. Trading Sampson would've sounded insane and the Rockets might've been the ones selecting Sam Bowie to complement Drexler and Olajuwon, but the trio of Jordan-Drexler-Olajuwon would've been every Rocket fan's dream. For the people answering this question: HOUSTON COULD'VE SELECTED THE DREAM AND MICHAEL AND ACQUIRED CLYDE THE GLIDE IF THEY TRADED AWAY SAMPSON. more

Resolved Question: Did I miss the "cigarette" thats getting passed around? How have the Flyers actually (practically) improved?

If we consider all that Pronger has DONE, then they might as well cancel the season and hand the Flyers the Cup. For example: A) One man does not win the Cup. He had a real goalie, with a real team that didn't take stupid penalties. The GM was no idiot either. B) So the Flyers are "going goon" this year. Gee, what a surprise. And how many Cups has that idea yielded in 33 years? C) Lupul and Knuble are gone. How will their offense be made up for? I hear Giroux this, Giroux that. But among Richards, Carter, Briere, Gagne, and Giroux they are relying on 5 players to maintain or surpass the goal scoring that was spread among seven players from last year. D) How clever was it to move Lupul, not sign Knuble and to expect the aforementioned players to take up the slack when the team will most likely be penalty prone, thereby wearing out Richards for the playoffs like last season? E) And just when I thought that any goalie would be an improvement over Biron, they go and get Emery. And just to be sure to make everyone feel more confident, they step into the Wayback Machine and get Boucher off the bottom of the barrel. F) Did the Flyers forget what they learned from Joe Banner (not immune from my criticism either) and the Capology 101 classes? G) How many more coaches, GM's, past-their-prime players and traded promising young players will come through town to help Eddie sell tickets and merchandise before people wise up? H) How many players will get their names on the Stanley Cup after leaving the Flyers? Contrary to what I have seen written on this board, I'm not one of those who "come back" to a team. The Flyers are the first team I gave up on, and there is a clothing donation box in Woodlyn, Pennsylvania that has a bunch of Flyers fanwear in a bag that I used to wear. I have nothing left for them or any other NHL team. But I will be here to see their season blow up, then go down in flames. And when the Penguins, Red Wings, Blackhawks, Bruins, Capitals, or any other team is skating around with the Cup, I won't have to say that I told you so. DROP THE PUCK!Joe - I never counted myself among ANY Flyers fans. The proof is on this board somewhere. As for my departure, well, it was earned. The idea hatched when the Flyers (and the rest of the world) knew it was time to move Lindros. My bags were packed and next to the door when Eddie said the team doesn't know what rebuilding is. The Pronger trade sealed the deal. I don't care if 6 billion people love what the Flyers are doing. When any of you can tell me to stuff the Flyers 2009-10 Stanley Cup up my Avery, I'll admit that I'm wrong. What do you have to put up?Joe - How have they improved? Here's some numbers to chew on. Of all teams to have won the Stanley Cup, the Flyers at 34 years rank 4th among active teams which have gone the longest without winning the Cup. The Hawks are at #1 at 48 years, followed by the Leafs at 42 years, and Boston at 37.They get pushed down to sixth if you want to add the original Senators at 82 and the Maroons at 74. Then, when ranked against other Stranley Cup winning teams by the frequency at which they CONTINUE to win Stanley Cups, the Flyers rank 15th out of 19 teams. The Canadiens lead the pack with an average of one Stanley Cup championship every 4 years to the Flyers one in 21 years. But thats just averages.Joe - Like a lot of people are doing, you are basing your hopes on thiongs that have nothing to do with the team that is assembled as of now. The two traded draft picks aren't on the team now, the salary cap can't put a uniform on, Sbisa is gone. What we have is a team that will be penalty prone with questionable goaltending. Richards was too worn out by the penalty killing the already over-penalized team had incurred. I don't see how gooning it up is going to help their chances - especially now that they lost some scoring depth. Dumb move4s all around except for the fact that Pronger is a solid defenseman. That doesn't guarantee any improvement when all things are considered. If all you want to see is bodies being thrown around then you have your Stanley Cup. Me? I'm tired of their stupid nonsense. I'm walking away from the idealogy. I've never been the kind of fan that looks on the sunny side of things. I see it the way I see it and I put up with a lot more than you have junior.I will stop tossing numbers at you when I stop hearing about what Pronger has already done. Deal?If I'm such a deserter, then why am I still an Eagles fan? A team by the way that has a worse regular season and playoff record than the Flyers? Why do I support a team that left Philly over half a century ago? I never left the Phillies or Sixers only because I never got into them. The Flyers have shown me an inability and unwllingness to change. I don't put you or anyone else down for staying with them. My choice is mine based on hopelessly following a team longer than you have been around.LITY - I agree that they added a defenseman they needed in order to address their defensive needs, but they have ignored the loss of scoring. In adding Pronger, they are taking on a contract that hinders their ability to address the goals they'll lose in Lupul and Knuble. They aren' going to come from thin air - somebody has to score. Granted the top forwards will, but again, Lupul and Knuble need capable replacements to fill their skates. The goaltending is iffy. They will need to rely on iffy goaltending for all the penalties they will incur this year. Bad hips or not, Richards WAS worn out and the team admitted as much. An issue for the Flyers last season was their lack of discipline. They still have Hartnell to keep the Penalty Box bench warm and now they have brought a few more goons into the m Like I said, even if all the experts in the world agree the Flyers have improved, I disagree. They may have gotten Pronger, but they are a lesser team now than this time last year. more

Resolved Question: Obama Health Care? Intelligent responses please?

The White House, Democrats and MoveOn liberals are spreading health care sob stories to sell a government takeover. But there's one health care policy nightmare you won't hear the Obamas hyping. It's a tale of poor minority patient-dumping in Chicago -- with first lady Michelle Obama's fingerprints all over it. Both Republican Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa and Democratic Rep. Bobby Rush of Illinois have raised red flags about the outsourcing program run by the University of Chicago Medical Center. The hospital has nonprofit status and receives lucrative tax breaks in exchange for providing charity care. Yet, in fiscal year 2007, when Mrs. Obama was employed there, it spent a measly $10 million on charity care for the poor -- 1.3 percent of its total hospital expenses, according to an analysis performed for The Washington Post by the nonpartisan Center for Tax and Budget Accountability. The figure is below the 2.1 percent average for nonprofit hospitals in surrounding Cook County. Rep. Rush called for a House investigation last week in response to months of patient-dumping complaints, noting: "Congress has a duty to expend its power to mitigate and prevent this despicable practice from continuing in centers that receive federal funds." Don't expect the president to support a probe. While a top executive at the hospital, Mrs. Obama helped engineer the plan to offload low-income patients with non-urgent health needs. Under the Orwellian banner of an "Urban Health Initiative," Mrs. Obama sold the scheme to outsource low-income care to other facilities as a way to "dramatically improve health care for thousands of South Side residents." In truth, it was old-fashioned cost-cutting and favor-trading repackaged as minority aid. Clearing out the poor freed up room for insured (i.e., more lucrative) patients. If a Republican had proposed the very same program and recruited black civic leaders to front it, Michelle Obama and her grievance-mongering friends would be screaming "RAAAAAAAAACISM!" at the top of their lungs. Joe Stephens of The Washington Post wrote, "To ensure community support, Michelle Obama and others in late 2006 recommended that the hospital hire the firm of David Axelrod, who a few months later became the chief strategist for Barack Obama's presidential campaign. Axelrod's firm (ASK Public Strategies) recommended an aggressive promotional effort modeled on a political campaign -- appoint a campaign manager, conduct focus groups, target messages to specific constituencies, then recruit religious leaders and other third-party 'validators.' They, in turn, would write and submit opinion pieces to Chicago publications." Some health care experts saw through Mrs. Obama and PR man Axelrod -- yes, the same Axelrod who is now President Obama's senior adviser. But the University of Chicago Medical Center hired ASK Public Strategies to promote Mrs. Obama's initiative. Axelrod had the blessing of Chicago political guru Valerie Jarrett -- now a White House senior adviser. Axelrod's great contribution: re-branding! His firm recommended renaming the initiative after "internal and external respondents expressed the opinion that the word 'urban' is code for 'black' or 'black and poor.' … Based on the research, consideration should be given to re-branding the initiative." Axelrod and the Obama campaign refused to disclose how much his firm received for its genius re-branding services. In February 2009, outrage in the Obamas' community exploded upon learning that a young boy covered by Medicaid had been turned away from the University of Chicago Medical Center. Dontae Adams' mother, Angela, had sought emergency treatment for him after a pit bull tore off his upper lip. Mrs. Obama's hospital gave the boy a tetanus shot, antibiotics and Tylenol, and shoved him out the door. The mother and son took an hour-long bus ride to another hospital for surgery. I'll guarantee you this: You'll never see the Adams family featured at an Obama policy summit or seated next to the first lady at a joint session of Congress to illustrate the failures of the health care system. Following the Adams incident, the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) blasted Mrs. Obama and Axelrod's grand plan. The group released a statement expressing "grave concerns that the University of Chicago's policy toward emergency patients is dangerously close to 'patient dumping,' a practice made illegal by the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA)" -- signed by President Reagan, by the way -- "and reflected an effort to 'cherry pick' wealthy patients over poor." Rewarding political cronies at the expense of the poor while posing as guardians of the downtrodden? Welcome to Obamacare. Resolved Question: 1. What have been the key success factors for Sony?

Sony Started as a radio repair shop, founded by Masuru Ikura and Akio Morita after Would War II. The company began its long history of producing compact consumer electronics in 1957, when it introduced the World’s first pocket-sized all-transistor radio. The company’s name, Sony, was taken from Sony, the Latin word for “sound” Sony went on to invest a series of transistor-based TVs and increasingly smaller audiocassette recorders. In 1979, the Sony Walkman introduced the World to a new, portable way of listening to music. Sony became a world leader in consumer electronics and was the first Japanese company to have its shares traded on the New York Stock Exchange. In the late 1980s, Sony began expanding into media, purchasing a U.S. record company (CSB records for $22 billion in 1988). And a major Hollywood studio (Columbia Pictures for $4.9 billion in 1989). The purchases made Sony a major force in the entertainment industry. The importance of marketing at Sony started with Akio Morita, who said that for a company to be successful, it must have three kinds of creativity: creativity to make inventions, creativity in planning and production, and creativity in marketing. Creativity in marketing at Sony means not just cleaver ads, but deep insight into its customers. For example, Sony knows its playstation customers like to find clues and to decode things. So Sony’s ads for playstation 2, like “Signs,” feature a young man walking the streets of a city where he encounters various signs foreshadowing the events. Mannequins appear in a store window, arms outstretched, and point enigmatically to something that’s about to happen. “The lead character is almost in the midst of his own role-playing game. He needs to follows clues to save the heroine”, said Andrew House, Sony’s executive vice president of marketing. In the ads, “we were essentially trying to tap into a range of emotions that we think we deliver in the games – intrigue, forebonding, excitement, panic, relief and achievement at the end”. Sony’s marketing also includes careful measurement of each campaign’s effectiveness. Foe example, Sony runs 30-second commercials for its Playstation as part of the previews in more than 1,800 theatres and on 8,000 movie screens. The ads appear before such films as “The Cat in the Hat”. Sony Computer Entertainment America has been running movie ads for six years.” Cinema advertising has been very effective for us”, said Amil Blaire, director of product marketing.” The reason why we have committed to cinema every year is the tremendous unaided recall shown by our own research and communicus – commissioned ad tracking”. Another example of measurement is Sony’s GenY youth marketing efforts. “The online program promoting the NetMD ATRAC CD Walkman and Cybershot U30 ran July 1 through September 30, 2003, and we found that more than 70 percent static banners”, said Serge Del Grosso, Director of Media and Internet Strategy, Sony Electronics”. In fact, Sony has even developed a direct-marketing solution which it sells to other companies who want to measure marketing effectiveness. The product, called eBridge[TM], allows marketers to use video, measure the effectiveness of the campaign, and gain insight into the target audience, all in one package. Sony expects that the next big breakthrough will not come from a single new electronic device.Rather, Sony President Kunitake Ando says that the future lies in making a whole range of devices more usefully linking them in a networked home-entertainment system. The company believes that its clout in consumer electronics, combined with its media content, will allow it to steer that convergence in a way that suits it. Whether the future of convergence resides in TV’s or PC’s or devices , $62-billion Sony makes every one of them- with a strong brand name that gives them an extra push off retail shelves around the world. 1. What have been the key success factors for Sony? 2. What recommendations would you make to senior marketing executives going forward? What should they he sure to do with its marketing? more

I have a photo I'd like to use in a unique logo for my site. Basically, I'm in a trench coat and have odd goggles on - very modern styles for say, an Industrial music show. I'm in severe crisis mode being unemployed and a single dad - no excuses, but I'd like to trade services or talents - I'm a computer expert and can fix your computer remotely or simply by giving you tips. (I highly doubt 90% of people have heard of my simple methods to speed up their computers)...I also do photography and if in my area, would love to help you look great on film. If I have to, I will try - but I know some of you are fantastic at this sort of thing. If willing, I also have a beautiful shot of my 6y old I'd LOVE in a cute banner/logo - again, I CAN do it, but I'd prefer to see someone with experience give it a go. Thank you for reading! more

Resolved Question: why didn't jesus say these things >?

If Christ was in fact God, he knew all the future. Before him like a panorama moved the history yet to be. He knew how his words would be interpreted. He knew what crimes, what horrors, what infamies, would be committed in his name. He knew that the hungry flames of persecution would climb around the limbs of countless martyrs. He knew that thousands and thousands of brave men and women. would languish in dungeons in darkness, filled with pain. He knew that the church would invent and use instruments of torture; that his followers would appeal to whip and *****, to chain and rack. He saw what creeds would spring like poisonous fungi from every text. He saw the ignorant sects waging war against each other. He saw thousands of men, under the orders of priests, building prisons for their fellow-men. He saw thousands of scaffolds dripping with the best and bravest blood. He saw his followers using the instruments of pain. He heard the groans -- saw the faces white with agony. He heard the shrieks and sobs and cries of all the moaning, martyred multitudes. He knew that commentaries would be written on his words with swords, to be read by the light of ******. He knew that the Inquisition would be born of the teachings attributed to him." "He saw the interpolations and falsehoods that hypocrisy would write and tell. He saw all wars that would be waged, and knew that above these fields of death, these dungeons, these rackings, these burnings, these executions, for a thousand years would float the dripping banner of the cross." "He knew that hypocrisy would be robed and crowned -- that cruelty and credulity would rule the world; knew that liberty would perish from the earth; knew that popes and kings in his name would enslave the souls and bodies of men; knew that they would persecute and destroy the discoverers, thinkers and inventors; knew that his church would extinguish reason's holy light and leave the world without a star." "He saw his disciples extinguishing the eyes of men, flaying them alive, cutting out their tongues, searching for all the nerves of pain." "He knew that in his name his followers would trade in human flesh; that cradles would be robbed and women's breasts unbabed for gold." "Why did he fail to speak? Why did he not. tell his disciples, and through them the world: 'You shall not burn, imprison and torture in my name. You shall not persecute your fellowmen.'" "Why did he not plainly say: I am the Son of God,' or, 'I am God?' Why did he not explain the Trinity? Why did he not tell the mode of baptism that was pleasing to him? Why did he not write a creed? Why did he not break the chains of slaves? Why did he not say that the Old Testament was or was not the inspired word of God? Why did he not write the New Testament himself? Why did he leave his words to ignorance, hypocrisy and chance? Why did he not say something positive, definite and satisfactory about another world? Why did he not, turn the tear-stained hope of heaven into the glad knowledge of another life? Why did he not tell us something of the rights of man, of the liberty of hand and brain?" more

Resolved Question: How can the Celtics rebuild [Part 3]?

In the previous 2 articles of the same title [Parts 1 & 2], the responses were pretty much against breaking-up half of the current Celtic roster. This is totally understandable if you're a true Celtic fan because it is indeed a "panic mode" & that you don't break up a champiopnship team after one unsuccessful post-season, it will surely make the organization look bad & unclassy to panic suddenly. But being also a true Celtic fan, you only have to look back at what happened towards the end of Bird's era where the C's hanged-on to their aging Big 3 when they had the opportunity to trade 1 or 2 of them for younger blood in order to stay competetive. (Ainge for sure knows about this very well!) What happened next was 21 years of waste while the rival Lakers racked-up more championships getting ever so dangerously close to the Celts number of banners. Indeed, it is very hard to let go that even the late Red Auerbach defended the decision to hang-on to the aging unit ala "that's how you treat & reward your troops who has been so loyal to you throughout the years." Still, the outcome was 21 years of mediocrity while the Lakers kept getting close. You see, in life, one has to make painful, unpopular, dreadful, & NO CONSCIENCE decisions in order to stay afloat, some sacrifices has to be made. But being overtly sentimental will SLOWLY sink you which in the C's case, the aging unit kept being competetive, but were slowly exiting early in the playoffs as the late 80's to the early 90's progressed. But look at the Lakers organization, they have NO CONSCIENCE with unloading some of their most loyal players over the years (Norm Nixon, Jamaal Wilkes, Kurt Rambis, Shaq, to name a few.) But it's what ultimately kept them successful over the years! You see, there's always two ways to look at life. In this case, you can question the character of the organization - rewarding the troops loyalty [the Celts] versus unloading even your most loyal troops [L.A. style] but we also have to adress it the other way around which is what most people miss. Meaning, loyalty is not only a one-way street. In the Lakers case, it was their players who were truly loyal to the organization that they were willing to take the SACRIFICE of being let go for the eventual good of the organization, yet still came back & were ultimately rewarded for their sacrifice. In Derek Fisher's case, he came back after he wasn't given a contract extension at the end of 2004 but look where he & the Lakers are at now? Same with Rambis, he's now an assistant coach & part of the recent Lakers success. I bet Shaq will finish his career with L.A. after next season & most likely, on a winning note - win a championship with the young guns of L.A. (And so on & so forth.) You see, in life, people tends to get mad at the employers when we feel like they're not rewarding us with all our loyalty & hardwork over the years. But we also have to remember that it's really a 2-way street ala JFK's "don't ask what your country (your organization) can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country (your organization)." Now if you really enjoy success, then ask what you can do for your organization to keep that success going. (Hear me Ray Allen?) And indeed, it has to be Ray unfortunately [as stated in Part I] because no other organization will take Pierce or KG's huge contracts that still has some years left unlike Ray's expiring contract. (It is indeed unfortunate coz Ray's so likable being humble & nice with clutch outside shooting.) But Ray can always comeback [after next season] with a stronger, better Celtics & win more rings if he does gets traded this off-season which will enable the C's to get a player like Boozer in replacement, as stated in Part I & II. How will it work? Well, we have to remember that next year's free agency is loaded with talent! (Forget Kobe & LeBron, they will surely sign with their respective teams given the success they're having with now.) Of course, a lot of teams would like to get in the mix with the other free agent talents outside Kobe & LeBron (Wade & Bosh to name a few) & so, they would like to get an expiring contract yet still remain competetive next year. That's where Ray Allen fits in. Of course, you have to make the numbers work (aka the salaries match). And so, it has to be a 3 or 4 team deal whereby Utah for sure wouldn't want to loose Boozer for nothing & so, they sign & trade him to the C's, Allen goes say, to the Clips who would want to be in the mix for next year's free agency by unloading Baron Davis & Kris Kaman to Utah. (The numbers works with Utah getting something in return which is better than nothing.) Of course, this is just an example as Utah won't really need Baron & Kaman yet the Clips tried this with Dallas in order to free money for next year's free agency. (Dallas said no.) But that is just an example on how to move Allen via a 3-te more

Resolved Question: Do most people even know about The War of 1812?

30 years after the American Revolutionary War. I am 24 and don't remember anything about this war. I Graduated High School and have taken 2 semesters of American History in Junior College. The name of this war sounds familiar but I don't remember being taught much about it. I got an email about the Star Spangled Banner and now I did some research about it. I didn't know we had another war with the British. Weird. I just wonder if you asked people about this war, how many people would know about it and what it was about. Wikipedia says these are the reasons for the war: First, a series of trade restrictions introduced by Britain to impede American trade with France, a country with which Britain was at war (the U.S. contested these restrictions as illegal under international law)[4]; second, the impressment (forced recruitment) of U.S. citizens into the Royal Navy (though many of those impressed were British citizens whose change in citizenship was not recognized by Great Britain); third, the British military support for American Indians who were offering armed resistance to the expansion of the American frontier to the Northwest.[5] An unstated but powerful motivation for the Americans was the need to uphold national honour in the face of what they considered to be British insults (such as the Chesapeake affair). Also were there any other wars with the British after 1815?? more

Resolved Question: Where can I find a sponsor/investor for my site's advertising?

Well I've got my forum, which I did some advertising on my own budget the other day and got tremendous attention with only spending 100$ in advertising. I need some way to find an investor or sponsor that would be willing to sponsor my site, in trade for a permanent leaderboard banner in which they can use for their own business, or rent out to whomever they'd like at whatever price they'd like. Does anyone have any resources for finding someone like this? more

Resolved Question: Chad "Ocho Cinco" Johnson could be an Eagle?

If this is true I am going to freak out (in a good way). This is from CincyJungle.com UPDATE: I asked Jason, who heads up Bleeding Green Nation, what his thoughts were. "I honestly have no feeling as to whether they'd actually do this or not," Jason said. "But I will say that while he was on a local radio station a few weeks ago Eagles president Joe Banner said a reason they didn't go after a guy like TJ Houshmandzadeh is that they didn't want to make a move that would prevent them getting an elite WR should one come available. So, if we take him at his word it would seem that the Eagles probably would be interested in trading for Johnson." I hope so. CJ is not as bad as T.O. He doesn't scream at players on the sideline and he doesn't hate QBs. He has fun and enjoys the game. If the Eagles front office wants to get back some love from fans after the Dawkins thing then they should do this. It would be the first bold thing they've done since T.O. I've got my fingers crossed. more

Voting Question: Would anyone Trade a BitGamer Invite for Art Services?

I am a student of graphic arts, so naturally I know my way of creation for projects. I recently learned that BitGamer has privatized, needing invites to get in. I have no loyalties to any site so I cannot trade invites, but I do have some things I can trade. I can make just about anything you need graphic-wise. I've made animated website ads, banners, signatures for forums, wallpapers... I can even photoshop a photo of you to make you into a dolphin if you so wish. If you would like some samples of what I've done, email me or comment, I really need that invite lol.Darksabre782@yahoo.com is my email lol more

Resolved Question: What software does something like tradedoubler use?

I need software to be like the middle man between merchants and affiliates. Something like trade doubler use. Basically I need to be dealing with the merchant and the seller. I need to be like the person in between both the seller and affiliate. And deal with both ends. Eg if it were for a hotel company, I would contact as many hotels as I could, let them have banners on my site and then other sites would use my site to to get banners and promote the hotels. What im looking for is not a hotel program but just to give you an idea. more

Resolved Question: I am compiling a list of wrong-doings by the Bush Administration. What am I missing?

1. Ran dirty primary campaign, initiating phone calls in south carolina informing residents that McCain had a black child, inferring he had an illicit inter-racial affair when he in fact adopted a girl. 2. Resolved Question: How can I make my site look "cooler"?

I just built a new investing website, I've been getting positive feedback but not a ton of visitors. I am very new to website building, and I am currently using DreamWeaver CS4 to create my pages. Can you think of any ideas that would liven the site up and make it look a little bit more appealing/professional? Also, any tips on getting the word out? I've been uploading articles onto Digg, StumbleUpon, Google Finance Discussion Boards, and Facebook, but I have only received 2 user emails so far (you will see on the theme of the site that it aims to avoid having unfiltered/uncensored comments). I'm hoping to be able to start generating decent ad-revenue by getting people to visit the advertisers, but I don't want to make the site seem overcrowded with ad's or seem too cheesy. I think the ad-banner in the footer and random "suggestions" for people to visit should be good enough, but I'm new at this so I'm not sure what to do in terms of trading off "over-advertising" and trying to get a decent revenue stream. Let me know what you think! The website address is: www.spectheory.com more

Resolved Question: I created a club on Sheezyart.net called:Autistics for anime,manga & writing.Would you like to join up ?

Not too long ago I joined an online art gallery called Sheezyart.net. It's a place were you can submit your art there & join a wide range of clubs. You can also create your own club so I decided to create a few of my own. One of them is called: Autistics for anime, manga & writing.Being a person with Asperger Syndrome,(a "mild" form of autism which is putting it lightly),I felt that there should be more places for people with autism & all of it's spectrum's to have a place to express themselves in anyway they'd like. And my club is not only just for those with autism but for people who have friends & loved ones who might have autism or any other sort of condition & they could learn about what we go through & how we see the world. Again,if your autistic and have an interest in drawing, writing stories, poems, art trades you can do so at my club. I go by the same screen name as I do on here & hope that by advertising my little club that many people who wish to express themselves in a creative way will have a place to do so. Also if you want to you can tell your friends about this place & spread the word if you'd like. Just go to Shezzyart.net & look for the colorful banner that says: Autistics for anime, manga,& writing & join whenever you'd like. PS: Since Sheezyart is sort of going through some up dating it has been act a bit wonky but I don't believe that it will be too much of a problem. As a side note,I tired to post this topic last night but Yahoo answers sort of crapped out on me so I'm hoping I'll have better luck this time. more

Resolved Question: Would you go on vacation to Mexico right now, would you feel safe?

http://www3.signonsandiego.com/stories/2009/feb/08/lz1e8carpente22145-threat-our-security-border/?uniontrib A threat to our security at the border February 8, 2009 Even as U.S. attention remains focused on Iran, Afghanistan and other distant spots, violence in Mexico, mostly related to the trade in illegal drugs, has risen sharply in recent years and likely spiraling out of control. While the violence entails battles between drug traffickers and Mexican military and police forces, it also involves turf fights among the various drug-trafficking organizations as they seek to control access to the lucrative U.S. market. More than 5,300 people died in the fighting in 2008. With 18 people found shot dead in the northern Mexican state of Chihuahua, and another four in a neighboring state – on the property of the state-run oil company Pemex – in just one two-day period (Jan. 26-27), 2009 is off to an ugly start. The carnage is now so bad that the U.S. State Department has issued travel alerts for Americans going to Mexico. One such alert warned that the battles in portions of northern Mexico are “the equivalent of military small-unit combat and have included the use of machine guns and fragmentation grenades.” U.S. tourism to cities on Mexico's border with the United States, where the bloodshed has been the worst, has dropped sharply. Even the Marines at Camp Pendleton near San Diego are banned from spending leave time in Tijuana – because it is too dangerous. And Mexico's violence is spilling across the border into communities in the southwestern United States. Indeed, Mexican drug gangs now operate in numerous cities throughout the United States. Cartel enforcers have published lists of Americans, including police officers, who are targeted for assassination. U.S. officials, alarmed at the growing power of the Mexican drug cartels, continue to pressure the government of Felipe Calderón to wage a vigorous anti-drug campaign. Calderón has responded by giving the army the lead role in efforts to eliminate the drug traffickers instead of relying on federal and local police forces, which have been thoroughly corrupted by drug money. In return, Washington is rewarding his government with the so-called Merida Initiative, a multibillion-dollar measure to aid the anti-trafficking campaign. Despite occasional optimistic pronouncements coming out of both Washington and Mexico City, it is increasingly apparent that the drug gangs are winning the war. Los Zetas, the enforcement arm of the powerful and especially ruthless Gulf Cartel, openly sought recruits to their ranks, posting help-wanted signs and hanging a large banner across a major thoroughfare in Nuevo Laredo last spring. The banner read: “The Zetas want you, soldier or ex-soldier. We offer a good salary, food and benefits for your family.” Traffickers have thoroughly penetrated Mexico's government institutions – even the agencies that are supposed to be dedicated to battling the cartels. In recent weeks, prosecutors charged top officials in the Attorney General's Office with being informers for the drug organizations. They allegedly received payments of $150,000 to $450,000 per month for information regarding surveillance targets and potential raids. Those sums are more than even high-level law enforcement personnel can make in several years – and lower-level personnel can make in several decades. With such resources at their disposal, and with the U.S. and global demand for illegal drugs remaining robust, it is no wonder that the cartels are doing well. Given Mexico's increasingly precarious economic situation, the cartels' power is likely to grow. Mexico is suffering badly from the economic recession. For the first time ever, financial remittances sent home from Mexicans working in the United States declined in 2008. As the already meager job prospects in Mexico shrink further, the drug cartels will be one group of employers willing and able to pay for new hires. President Obama ought to put the drug violence in Mexico at the top of his list of national security priorities. While it is premature to describe Mexico as a full-blown failed state, as some experts have done, the situation is alarming. The campaign against drug trafficking in Mexico is the latest failed front in the international war on drugs. The brutal truth is that the illegality of the drug trade creates a multibillion-dollar black-market premium that attracts the greediest, most violence-prone elements. Neither the Merida Initiative nor any other program will change that fundamental economic reality. President Obama needs to order a comprehensive reassessment of America's drug strategy before the security environment along our southern border gets even worse. Carpenter, vice president for defense and foreign policy studies at the Cato Institute, is the author of eight books on international issues. He is also the author of a new Cato policy study, “I think Mexico is getting safer by the minute... "207 dead; army storms warehouse in Juárez" 02/05/2009 Before dawn Thursday, five men were shot execution-style in the community of El Millón, east of Juárez across the Rio Grande from Fabens, Chihuahua state police said. The men were lined up, their heads covered and their hands and feet bound with tape when they were shot in the backyard of a home, police said. The men, who had not been identified, were wearing pajama pants and underwear. The men belonged to the same family and were pulled out of a home while they slept. Last Saturday, three severed heads - the latest in a string of similar decapitations in the valley - were found in an ice chest in the main plaza in El Millón, along with an undisclosed threatening message, police said. More than 1,600 people were killed last year in Juárez. Almost all the slayings remain unsolved. http://www.elpasotimes.com/news/ci_11641299 ~*~*~*~*~*~ "3 BajHezbollah is now believed to be training Mexican drug cartel enforcers the art of bomb making. American Chronicle | Mexican Drug cartels and Hezbollah operating in Mexico and U.S. ~*~*~*~*~*~ U.S. law enforcement has established that there is increasing coordination between Mexican drug cartels, human smuggling networks and U.S.-based gangs. The cartels use street and prison gangs located in the United States as their distribution networks. In the United States, the gang members operate as surrogates and enforcers for the cartels. Members of Hezbollah (terrorist group) have already entered the United States across the Southwest border.HOUSE COMMITTEE ON HOMELAND SECURITY Page 4. http://www.house.gov/mccaul/pdf/Inve...der-Report.pdf ~*~*~*~*~*~ Another brutal means of torture and death is called “guisoe.” This practice involves putting a person into a 55 gallon drum, usually dead, but not always, and pouring various flammable liquids over the body and lighting it on fire. A variation on this method is to place a burning tire around the neck of an individual, burning the victim alive. The remains are dumped on roadsides as a message to others who would consider crossing the cartels. The ruthless methods employed by these cartels to torture and kill their competitors are no different than the techniques used by Al Qa'ida and other terrorist organizations. This level of brutality is particulary troubling as the cartels are executing these vicious murders a mere stones-throw from U.S. soil. HOUSE COMMITTEE ON HOMELAND SECURITY Page 12.
