I tried typing in the ip address from my computer into it but that didnt work. I have also tried forgetting the network and than reconnecting the network multiple times but that didnt work either. Open Question: Connecting desktop & laptop for file transfer, I need help!?

Okay, I am trying to wipe out my desktop so I can install Windows 7. I want to transfer all my music files and pictures to my Laptop which already has WIN7. I first go to Network and Sharing Center on my laptop and I go to "Set up a new connection or network". I then go down to "Set up a wireless ad hoc (cpu to cpu) network)". After I click next twice, I create my network name and security key. It says it is ready to use and waiting for users. I now go on my desktop pc refresh my wireless network connection and connect to my network I just made. It says I am connected. When I look at my laptop it says that it is identifying, after that it says unable to connect to wireless network then says that it is an unidentified network. I can't find shared files anywhere, I cant even find out where to go to get the files off my desktop. Is it because I am not connected to the internet? If so, how do I connect to my WNC and linksys? If it isn't any of that, what am I doing wrong? more

Open Question: I have recently updated my pc to windows 7 x64 and no matter which drivers I install?

I just can't detect my wireless card. The only indication that this card has on it is the following serial: nlwl-pci02 I have even used the driver cd which came with the card, no joy. Is there ANY way I can use this card to connect to my wireless internet? (other than reinstalling an older OS) I've even tried using a wired connection from my windows 7 pc to my laptop, which has a wireless connection, in the hopes of using my laptop as a glorified router (like an ad hoc network but two computers sharing one wireless connection) in an attempt to update my pc's version of windows 7 in the hopes that it will detect the wireless card. No joy, both computers show an 'unidentified network' but that's as far as I can get. I keep getting notified that the network adapter driver is missing too, could this contribute? I tried installing a new one but once again, no joy. My mobo is a gigabyte ga-p31-es3g. Sorry for the long question but I've been working on this for far too long already and I'm stumped and frustrated. If you can help me with ANY of these issues, please let me know! more

Open Question: Google Chrome is not working?

I know there are many questions and answers on here about Google Chrome not working, however I have searched for hours and cannot find a solution that works for me. I had gotten a particularly nasty virus on my computer a few months ago and Chrome has not worked since even though I have gotten rid of the virus. I am not getting any error messages, pages just are not loading. So far I have tried the following to resolve this issue: 1.Uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome many times 2.Uninstalled the Beta version and installed the secure version and vise versa 3.Scanned for viruses and other maloutious software using AVG free, Panda Cloud, Ad-Aware, Spybot, Spyware Blaster, Malwarebytes, Google's Spyware Doctor with anti-virus and took a look at things with Hijack This 4.Ran CCleaner 5.Tried steps one and two again 6.Disabled my firewall 7.Checked my proxy settings (which worked for another computer on the same network that had the same problem) I really don't want to just give up and use a different browser, I sort of have my heart set on this one so that is not an option in my mind at the moment. Any other suggestions that I may try? more

Open Question: I really need help of someone who has configured a server?

Hi, I am a first Line IT Technician and I am wanting to manage my home network using a server to manage, 2 Laptops and a ps3. I am wanting to do this to gain Server knowledge and to share resources like my printer and I have a separate 500gb HDD full of music, DVD's etc. Ok I have custom built PC dual booted with XP, SERVER 2003 ENTERPRISE R2, & WINDOWS 7 After installing server 2003 i did the following things: configured typical settings such as DNS, AD, DHCP ETC using the wizard that does all this for you. My LAN settings for the server are all dynamically configured (Not Static) . The laptop is connected using Ethernet cable to the LAN port on my router. (my server is connected to the router LAN port using Ethernet as well) I can ping the server with the IP and Host name & ping the laptop with both as well but I cannot join the laptop to the domain as it says: cannot contact the AD.... what should I do?? any additonal info needed I will post on here or if you can ask me any additional questions & advice on my email kamaljalil@hotmail.co.uk-- all help is appreciated! :):) more

(For the record, NO idea where to post this question lol) So, surfing youtube, 1 vid leads to another, long story short. I have to questions. Is Verbal abuse, illegal? I understand if it interferes with someone else's rights (i.e Im going to kill you!) that it in fact, is, however, if its in a 'civil' manner, i.e "i believe that you are incapable of (insert 'civil' insult here)" is it illegal? To what extent is it all illegal? i.e threats are, but is, say "You are a lesser being then me, i am better then you.", is that? or simple, "you are stupid". ect? Another, race things can be a hate crime, but say you make fun of someone for having red hair? fine? (fine as in $$) I ask these since i saw some anti bullying ads on youtube, and reminded me i was a "Civil" bully when i was in school. so ive been using windows xp forever, and my cousin gave me a computer with vista on it. How do i connect it directly to ethernet, when I go to network and sharing center, i click on set up a connection or network. I get 5 different options, connect to the internet which has two sub catagories, connect to a wireless network or dialup, the next option is set up a wireless router or access point. The next is manually connect to a wireless network, the next is set up a wireless ad hoc, and the last is set up a dial up connection. None of these when clicked on lead me to believe I can set up a direct ethernet hook up from the modem to the computer. Anyone know how to do this on vista?didn't work, tried both methods more

Just a quick intro then My name is Liz, I'm 18 and I have quite a bit of knowledge on the workings of Windows computers. I run a Windows 7. Last week we had a thunder storm and so I unplugged all the computers in the house, that includes the one to which the router (d-link) is connected. Since then only my computer has lost connection. My phone, the laptop, the router-computer, the Wii and the PS3 can still connect. Foolishly, after waiting for 3 days for a miracle to happen, I decided to fix the problem myself. You can see where it all went wrong here. I deleted the USB dongle in Hardware and tried to reconnect from scratch. Now the connection is probably set to the wrong area (wireless network connection?) and the type of connection I made is called ad-hoc in Dutch, I don't know how that translates to English computers. I wasn't sure where to post this xD more

Open Question: Google Secure Connection Failed?

Alright so I think something I must have gotten some sort of virus because every time I've gone to Google over the last few days the site hasn't been loading and I just get a blank page. The same is true for every other Google site (I tried just going to www.google.com/imghp to see if I could bypass the problem but that did nothing). I'm using Windows 7 on a Macintosh boot camp partition, and when I try to go to Google on the Mac partition, or on any other computer on my network, Google is working just fine. Also, this is not a browser issue, as I've had this issue on four different browsers (one of them being the Steam in-game browser). After days of getting a blank page (and no help from this site on another question I asked), I finally came across something. I logged out of YouTube intentionally to see what would happen when I would try to log back in (which redirected me to a Google page) and I finally received some kind of error message. The message reads: Secure Connection Failed An error occurred during a connection to www.google.com. (Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long) The page you are trying to view can not be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified. Please contact the web site owners to inform them of this problem. Alternatively, use the command found in the help menu to report this broken site. I did a little research but couldn't come up with anything that I was able to understand to solve this problem. This problem is starting to get out of hand, as I now cannot use Google (I've been using some search engine that's "Powered by Google" but comes up with a ton of ads), cannot access my Gmail, and I am unable to log back onto YouTube. I hope that someone on here will be able to help, and in case I forgot to mention it earlier, I finally encountered the error message while using FireFox.Alright well I've found one solution. I went to google.co.uk (the UK version of Google) and it's working just fine. So the problem of Google itself is partially solved (although I'd still like to know a full solution so I can stop whatever is wrong with my computer before it does anything else), but YouTube still won't let me log on, keeps linking me to google.com, i tried changing the URL to .co.uk but no luckI figured it out!!! I had to do some stuff with the DNS, went to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc, then turned off read-only for the hosts file and enabled my user account full access for editing the file, opened the sucker in notepad, and deleted the last line which had conveniently been placed at the bottom: 127.0.0.1 www.google.com (this line was preventing me from accessing google with any browser). I also found a few other sites in that file that were blocked similarly. I hope that this page can stay up to help any people who have had this problem as well! more

We have an old domain controller (windows 2003 server) for a network of about 50 users and we just bought new server hardware. So, I will be migrating the old domain controller to the new server. I have a server with windows 2008 server R2 installed on it and also AD DS role associated with DNS role installed. I have registered a domain name with no-ip.com, let`s say example.com (which points to the ip at my server). The active directory name is building1 so that makes the full directory name building1.example.com. The thing i would like to do is to have access from the internet to the machines in the network, for example if i want to connect using remote desktop connection to pc1 i would write pc1.building1.example.com or for pc2 pc2.building1.example.com or for the server server.building...... How can i make this work? I tried using A records in the DNS server to point to the pcs ip in the network addresses but it does not work Can anyone help me pls? more

I'm 28, have a bachelor's in writing, with an associate's in accounting and currently I'm working on getting that 2nd bachelor's in accounting. Problem is I'm one of the 10% that got laid off. I'm on month 5 of the process of trying to find a new job, but there doesn't seem to be anything out there in either customer service (something I did for 5+ years) or entry level accounting. I haven't networked a whole bunch however, because it seems that I can't get in touch with anyone who could actually hire me at any company. I'm going then through staffing agencies for temp work and applying to at least 1 ad a day on sites like monster or indeed. Now, my situation then since I seem to be unable to find any work is this: My father died in 2007 leaving me with a little bit of money, but not enough to sit on my butt until I graduate for the 2nd time from school. I haven't tried places that pay slightly better than minimum wage because those places would actually cause me to eat at my savings slowly. But it's fast approaching August/September that time of the year when places like Wal-Mart are hiring for the upcoming season. With congress voting no to an unemployment extension I will most likely lose my unemployment around Christmas of this year which would still leave me with not enough money to make it till the end of college. I don't see how the economy will get better for finding low level accounting work by Christmas and so I'm faced with a dilemma. Either take whatever I can get at some place like Wal-Mart and go slowly broke, just sit around and wait and see if the economy makes a massive rebound in the next 6-8 months, or join the military and have all my financial problems vanish, but then a whole new ball of wax comes into play. I already know about the military and what I'll have to expect, but I can't hardly see how having them pay my college loans off, getting free health care through the VA, and having more money than I need month to month while I'm in is a bad thing. Except unless as I've heard if I got killed. I must say that the idea of going through obstacle courses with live machine guns over your head and all the other things that come with basic training aren't very appealing to me in that I am a bit of a scaredy cat, but with all the financial benefits that come with being in the military I think I could handle the 12 weeks or so of basic. It would be for me 4 years of my live gaining new experiences and getting my college debt out of the way instead of trying to hack it in the civilian world and probably taking 12 years to pay off my college debt. Now I think I would be able to get in as an accountant and maybe even as an officer with my past degree, but I'm unsure of whether this would be a good idea. The only hitch I could see on my being able to get in is I tried the Air Force 3 years ago and they disqualified me on my vision. Apparently I have depth perception issues. more

I have a Comcast router hard wired to a Netgear WPN824 wireless router and 1 out of my 8 computers is hard wired to the router.
