Open Question: I can't connect to internet through functioning secure wireless connection on school network?

I have set up a router for wireless on a school network (cable from wall to joint connection). I have made sure the router only works as a switch, thereby not giving out IP's itself, but only functioning as an access point, with the wall connection put in one the 4 LAN ports. This is shown in that I can't connect directly to the router anymore, and its not listed as the standard gateway - which is instead the central school server. My problem is that even though i have found the wireless connection on the router i get the "500 internal server error", and thereby no Internet connection. The cable access works fine, just plugging another Ethernet cable in one of the ports of the router. Any ideas as to what could cause this? By the way its a Linksys WRT54GL model. more

I have a new Dell Inspiron computer. I can not connect to the internet with my computer. Even though my computer picks up available networks and allows me to connect to my encrypted wireless network I can only get limited to co connectivity to the internet. I unplugged the modem/router and rebooted it to no avail. I also connected to the same network using 3 other computers including a Macintosh and was able to get full internet access. I uninstalled and reinstalled the internal wireless card for my computer but can get no connectivity still. Has anyone ever had a problem like this before? I run Windows 7 and am really frustrated. hi my current home setup: i have a bt home hub 2.0 ( http://www.shop.bt.com/products/bt-home-hub-2-0-56B4.html ) that my desktop (on the ground floor) is right next to and is connected via a ethernet cable. i have a laptop in my room on the second floor directly above where the router is connected wirelessly so my signal is fine. but when i move to other rooms it gets weaker and in the room on the far side of the house i have no signal, which is a pain. i have the old bt home hub 1.0 from before i got the 2.0. i was wondering whether it would be possible to connect the 2 hubs so i could have the 1.0 in my room and have perfect signal, this would also enable me to have my xbox 360 in my room and connect to the 1.0 router. the thing is i want to do this wirelessly so i don't have to run cables everywhere and still maintain internet access on the desktop and the laptop and connection to the wireless printer from both also, even if i did do this would the signal from the 1.0 router be prefect on the second floor when next to it and still accessible in the far room or will i still have the same signal strength from it and not get any in that room thanks in advance more

ok... my ps3 has been acting up for a while now and ill tell you some of my problems and you can help me out... firstly.. my wireless connection sucks... i have 10mb internet and a 300mbps router ( performing at 154mbps )... im on channel 2.. my NAT type is 2??? if that helps....? my signal strengh varies from 30% to 80% but usually its low..... secondly i have a problem with the PS network! ill be playing on mw2 with my friends and it will randomly sign me out and say there i an error?? then i have to sign back in.. sometimes it dosent let me.. and i end up getting kicked! and lastly... my ps3 is jut slow in general!.. 1st. when i press the ps button it takes a while for my friends to appear... 2nd when i open a message i cant reply till my friends avatar appears.. that can be a while... 3rd. when somebody adds me as a friend it will take liek 3 minutes for the frind request to appear.. and then when i accept it it is another 5 mimute wait for it to dissapear and for that person to come online..! my ps3 is 2 years old... its an 80gb... if you need any other info ask and ill add details! more

Open Question: Why are we experiencing a spotty internet connection with a Netgear router and Cisco modem from Comcast?

We have been having trouble with our internet connection. We have Comcast triple play, and everything seems to be working correctly. The modem (Cisco) and router (Netgear) are lit up as usual, and the service guy from Comcast confirmed they are set up correctly. We do have internet - but service is slow and spotty. All three computers (a PC tower, a mac laptop, and a pc laptop) confirm that the wireless signal is there, the strength is excellent, and the speed is 54 mbps, but we still have to wait forever for pages to load and the connection seems to peter out unexpectedly. None of the three computers ever report that the connection has been lost or that it is slow - they just don't connect to the internet. We are connected with WPA (personal) and TKIP settings, if that's any help. We would appreciate any advice - this is getting very frustrating! Thanks! =) more

Open Question: is it possible to save nike plus run files onto my computer?

i have 2 usb ports on my macbook, the two are right next to each other. I use a wireless broadband key that uses a usb port to connect to the internet. the broadband key is pretty big so i cant connect my ipod with the internet key in at the same time. So, i was thinking to connect my ipod, save the run data files to my mac, then connecting the internet and uploading the file from my mac without the ipod. I have a small company based out of Oregon. We are trying to create a very stable multiple-connection network. I understand lawenforent uses CB radios, and a wireless Internet connectiion. I have been doing some research and I'm trying to find information as to what frequencies or other connection types I might have over looked. We will have an oncall network alot like how patrol cars connect to your local DMV, I hope someone knows the interworkings of a patrol car enough to explain a bit more then what I have found so far. more

Hi Im going to start Uni this year so I need a Laptop. I want the Laptop to be powerful and at the same time have decent battery life. I want a computer that can play movies and music (HD would be great) and can play games (occasionally as Im not a serious gamer) and be great for school work and other everyday things (email, internet etc). Processor: Core i7 would be ideal OS: Windows 7 Hard drive: 500 - 1000GB Memory: 4GB + Disk Drive: Any but would like Blu-ray drive if possible Screen: 15' - 19' Back-lit Keyboard Bluetooth: Yes Wireless Cards: Yes Audio/ Sound cards: Really good ones lol eg. SOUND-BLASTER X-FI HI DEF AUDIO Video cards: um well good to watch movies and play games eg. INTEL HD GRAPHICS WITH TV TUNER Battery: Atleast 3 Hours of Battery life without playing games just doin school work or surfing the net Im doin Computer science and mathematcs as my degree so i will need a good performance laptop. hi i have just recently went through a network security class and was wondering how vurnable my WEP key is for my router and how easy would it for some one to get it... doing some research on the internet i came across a ISO called Backtrack.... however i was told i would need to have a compatible wireless adapter that is compatible to inject raw data?.... aka aircrack-ng .... so for any of you *Network savvy people out there* could you tell me if my wireless card... *Broadcom 4321AG 802.11a/b/g/draft-n Wi-Fi Adapter* is compatible? Open Question: Internet Connection Trouble?

Recently my internet has had some trouble. I'll try and get on but it won't connect to the internet. All my computers at the house have the problem. So when I diagnose the problem it says it detects the wireless network but can't connect. So I reset the router and modem and then the internet works but then a little later it will stop connecting again. This may not have to do anything but there was some quartined file the virus checker found so I don't know if a virus could mess it up.Turning off the internet connection fixes it but it will lose connection again sometimes a few minutes afterwards more

Open Question: Wireless on laptop won't work!?

I have a hp dv6000 and my wireless function doesn't work. I cannot connect to the internet via WIFI. When i turn the switch to the on position it stays on the color red (meaning it's off). So far i've tried the following: A hard reset Reeinstalled wireless drivers from recovery manager Installed the latest broadcom wireless LAN driver I've removed the wireless module to reseat it I've done a system restore One thing I have noticed is the bluetooth drivers won't show up in the device manager eventhough i've installed them. I've been researching for a couple of days and have come up empty handed. more

Will upgrading to wireless n draft 2.0 (300mbps) from wireless g (54mbps) by buying a new router increase the transfer speed of files over my home network (the transfer speed of sending files wirelessly from one computer to another over my home network)? I have a broadband company who provides a only a small amount of bandwidth allocated for internet access. I am currently getting speeds of around 550kBps download and 50kBps upload with my wireless g router (both lan and wlan). Will upgrading to wireless n affect either of these? Or would a better option be to look for a better broadband provider?I have built a home server (running whs) that i plan on using to stream hd movies to my laptop, desktop, etc. Would upgrading help streaming speed at all? more

i bought an iphone off of my cousin, for 10$ (cracked screen) and i am trying to update it to version 3.1.3 and it is taking forever. it says it has 25 hours left! and my laptop is 1gig ram stick. and i have dsl and wireless internet. I cannot seem to figure out how to put a password on my wireless router. I have had the same router for about 3 or 4 years. Until now I haven't really felt the need to put a password on my internet, but I have decided to finally set one up. I am using a D-Link AirPlus Extreme G Wireless router. The model number is Dl-624. I have read the answers to many similar questions, but after following the advise given, I always end up running into problems. After entering "192.168.0.1" into the address bar, a dialogue pops up. Everything that I have read so far tells me that I should type "admin" for the username and leave the password blank, but when I do that it tells me that I have entered the wrong username and/or password. Where do I go from here? I am not certain if this would matter, but I'm using an Apple MacBook Pro. more

Open Question: Why did my wi-fi connection slow down?

So, some time today, my wi-fi connection slowed down for some reason. I use a netgear router, and it is proteced with WPA, so no one is using up my bandwith. I've run a lot of checks and it's not my internet, or a virus. I use a laptop to connect to my wi-fi, and the internet used to run fine just yesterday. Also, when I look at my wireless connection, there is some sort of sign that wasn't there before. It's a sign that is yellow and it has a black exclamation point in it (sorry I don't know how to explain it more). Hello A few days ago my internet connection would go in and out about every 30 seconds I reset my modem (comcast) and my router (dl-524(d link)) I have been accessing the internet more frequently after doing so with minor connection breaks until today I lost full internet access unless router is disconnected The router blinks normally except for the link that connects to my modem that blinks much faster as if it has a weak signal. Hi, I own a laptop with wireless capabilities and I have been free loading off of my parents internet for the last few monthes. However all of a sudden my connection has become "local only" and I can no longer connect to the internet. Ive tried the diagnose and repair thing and its only suggestion was to reset the wireless adapter. When I tried this it said it could not be done and that it tried to ping the host server but did not receive a response. I have about 1900 Download and 500 Upload and i'm ALWAYS in red/yellow connection on MW2 on xbox 360. My xbox is wired into my Wireless-N Broadband Router WRT160Nv3 which is going through a Pannaway Thompson modem, my NAT type is on open ( but I still can't play/join party with over half my friends). I do live in Ketchikan, Alaska, but I don't think that'd be the problem. We do have wireless internet but the only thing thats on it is mine and my mom's Iphones and they aren't doing anything on the internet. WHY AM I ALWAYS LAGGING?! Okay, this is going to be lengthy, so get ready to work. I'm typing this from my sisters computer. My computers internet has not worked for 2 weeks. Late one night I got a message, from a scare-ware program, saying my computer is infected blah blah, but that is gone. And ever since that night, I cannot access the internet despite it saying I'm connected.I had to get a replacement internet stick, I had a Linksys Compact Wireless-G USB Adapter. And we got a replacement refurbished Wireless-N USA Network Adapter with Dual-Band Model No. WUSB600N. And it still will not work. Only AIM will work. It says it is connected, and shows that I am connected. I have tried everything. I don't know what to do anymore. When I go to use IE8 it says 'Internet Explorer cannot display the page..etc.' I've tried various websites, nothing works. It's become quite irritated considering I spent $30 and this problem has not been resolved. If you know exactly what I should do, please describe in detail the process I have to take to make this work.
