Resolved Question: How many Teenagers Date? 10 Points!?

I have an English essay (for tomorrow!) based on the argument, "Why should we keep Single-Sex schools?" One of my points is the distractions of dating, but I don't have any statistics to back up my argument. I don't mind if it's based on a certain County, or throughout the world, I just need some form of an answer. 10 Points for the Best one btw =] Thanks! xxx more

Open Question: Help, parents are LITERALLY ruining my life?

I know this sounds like I'm just some stupid teenager being completely dramatic, but my parents have ruined my life. If you disagree, please mention so. If its my fault, I want to take responsibility. I understand that sometimes people do wrong things without realizing it. I want to present the FACTS as accurately as possible. 1: Whenever my parents have an idea that they support, and I disagree, regardless of who knows more about the issue, they call me moronic and stupid for not thinking they are right. Today for example, my parents wanted me to take a practice AP exam for a class. This only encompasses the multiple section, a section in which about 95% of people pass, and I practice it daily. Essentially, to me its like taking a multiple choice test that asks questions like (2 x 2 = ?). I told them that I asked around and everyone who ACTUALLY TOOK THE TEST says that these practice tests are a waste of time and money (scams). My parents made a total list of reasons why I'm stupid, insulted me, and then told me that the test would do _____, in a way that shows they feel they know everything about the test, when one of them didn't even know there were AP exams, and the other came from a foreign country and has never even seen an exam. In school I've been instructed on every detail and format of the test, and have already taken practice exams. At the end, they just told me to say yes or no and then "shut the hell up" without offering a voice of my perspective. 2: Arrogance is part of my family. I even admit I can be arrogant very frequently, but my parents' arrogance is ruining my opportunities and education. My mother acts like she knows everything about school and makes up random statistics to make herself look right. When I give real facts, the only thing she ever says is, "bullshit". I am always wrong if what I say contradicts them. This is not some of the times, this is ALL the time. So much so that its ridiculous for me and others to hear. Can you imagine someone assuming they are right ALL the time? I can't believe they haven't noticed how ridiculous it is. My dad just said that UCSD is significantly superior to UCLA, though technically UCLA has more competition and a higher GPA expectation/SAT score average. He just said I was full of shit and that I didn't know what I was talking about. He said he did extensive research and I'm here ready to bet anyone $10,000 he has never been to the UCSD or UCLA websites. 3: Dominance is too much with my parents. If I play an instrument and my dad is watching his favorite show, I have to stop right there. If my parents are ever sleeping, instrument off. I was practicing scales on the saxophone (something you need to frequently practice from beginner to pro) and they were mad because I was being "repetitive", when scales are supposed to be practiced daily. Also, if I ever voice my opinion, its wrong if its not theirs, as mentioned before. I then support it with evidence and strong proof, and before 2 words come out of my mouth, I get a "shut the hell up, not one more word". If I defy this and actually prove them wrong I get a punch/slap in the face and my dad says "your mouth is writing checks your ass can't cash" 4. Simple enough, is it legal to hit your children in the head at all? What are the physical "discipline" laws in California? 5. At math SAT class we played a game of competition in math so that we would be motivated to work harder. I beat everyone by a significant amount of points and was so motivated to become a better student. Normally I don't do so well, but I was so happy that I was getting better. My mother asks me what we did that day and I simply tell her we were playing a competitive game. Her response: "You probably got last place cause you suck at math, huh? Rachel (her best friend's daughter) probably did way better because she's actually smart". I know, this has to be unreal. Seriously, what mother says that to her kid? I think this is the worst of all. I was just planning on doing well in school, going to a good college, and just never associating with my parents again, but with my mother/father continuously calling me stupid and worthless, I feel no motivation to work harder. I know its all up to me, but to have the people who raised you and gave birth to you tell you that you won't amount to anything really hurts. The only way my parents will be kind and loving to me is if I shutup, listen always, never give opinions, pretend like I agree and enjoy everything they say, and get the top of my classes for every subject. I've been struggling greatly in Calculus, and for the first time I got a 98% on a test (very hard to do because its a highly advanced class with a tough teacher). My mother's response when I come up to her excited about my score: "Why didn't you get 100%?" I'm not saying my parents are twin-Satans,but they are conceited, stubborn, and arrogant. Because I'm under 18, they feel that they can make their word la more

Resolved Question: Can someone revise my paper on anerexia?

I have to write a paper and i would like your feed back i need this paper to be perfect because its the only thing passing me! The representation of only one model of beauty on television has attributed to women forming unrealistic body image expectations and lead to an increase in anorexia among young girls. Anorexia Nervosa is a mental condition which affects one’s both physical and mental health. It is a condition that causes one to have a distorted self-image and forces themselves to starve even if their body weight is already dangerously low. They often restrict their food intake to the point where they are extremely thin. It seems today that eating disorders are on the rise. While this may be true, the numbers may appear to grow only because more cases are being brought out into the open. The purpose of this paper is to discuss eating disorders and prove that these diseases, specifically Anorexia Nervosa, continue to plague of women due to psychological and environmental factors along with pressure from the media. The term “Anorexia Nervosa” is misleading. It means “loss of appetite due to nerves.” But people with anorexia don’t actually lose their appetite until the late stages of their starvation. Until, they do feel hungry, but they just won’t eat. People affected by anorexia have an extreme fear of gaining weight. In addition to drastic dieting, they may resort to vomiting and the use of laxatives and diuretics to lose weight. Statistics show that many teens and young adults suffer from anorexia nervosa. Without treatment, anorexia nervosa can cause serious health problems--even death! The sooner treatment begins the better the chances for a full recovery. The person with anorexia is a model child. He/She is well behaved, eager to please, and a good student who gets along well with her peers. She rarely admits that anything is wrong or that anything is wrong or that she/he extra helps. Behind the mask is an insecure, self-critical perfectionist who feels unworthy of any praises she receives. A person who has anorexia is also very concerned about whether other people like her. And she is constantly feeling self cautious about herself which makes it even worse about who she is as a person. Anorexia nervosa is a life-threaten eating disorder defined by refusal to maintain body weight. Other essential features of this disorder include an intense fear of gaining weight, a distorted body image, and an absence of at least three consecutive menstrual cycles (amenorrhea) when otherwise expected to occur in women. Sometimes people starve and binge, depending on the extent of weight loss. This can be physically very dangerous. On TV we see people who are rich, beautiful, and above all are thin They see these people and think if they were thin they too would be rich, and beautiful, people would like them. Eating disorders are seen primarily in western and industrialized countries, where slimness is a model of attractiveness some experts feel that the causes of anorexia are relative to demands from society and family. For many anorexics, the destructive cycle begins with the pressure to be thin and attractive. A poor self-image compounds the problem. Often anorexia starts when a teenager or young woman goes on a diet to loose a little weight. Spurred on by the compliments they get, they may become obsessed with dieting. They may think to themselves. "If losing a little weight’s well, loosing a lot must be great." People with anorexia typically have low-self esteem and are easily that being thin would give them all the confidence in the world. Many anorexics accept anorexia as a way of life and this is how you become popular and loved. Many fashion models are anorexic due to pressure put on them to look thin. Then young teenagers see these stylish skinny models and fell this is acceptable to do what ever is necessary to look like these models on covers of magazines and on the cat walks. On the Internet, website are widely available which encourage anorexia. They show pictures of models, which have been altered. Their limbs have been made longer and shadows created underneath their ribs to make them look even thinner. Some people who have anorexia become obsessed with getting fit and continuously exercise but don't replace energy lost in the body, therefore the body uses the muscle and soon it deteriorates and the person becomes weak, just so they can be thin. Many famous people have been affected by anorexia. One in particular was Karen Carpenter who was one of the first public cases know. She felt pressured by her job as a singer to look thin and beautiful so she starved herself. Karen Carpenter died February 4, 1983 of heart failure caused by chronic anorexia nervosa. She was thirty-two years old. She battled with it from 1975-1983 (when she died). She went to New York at the end of 1981 for a year of treatment by a psychiatrist but the damage had apparently been done. Plu more

Resolved Question: Need some words of encouragement before giving up...Please ladies!?

According to a website I was told to take a pregnancy test today even though my period isn't supposed to start until March 4, 2010. I thought I did everything right. My last period was Feb 4, 2010 and my husband and I had sex on Feb 12, 14, 15, 17, and 2 times on the 18th. I laid with my hips elevated on a pillow for 30 minutes after each sexual encounter. On 6 and 7 dpo I had cramping in my abdomen. On 6 dpo I had 2 drops of blood after using the restroom. On 8 dpo I had a pulling feeling in the front of my abdomen. I have had several head aches which are uncommon for me. I have also felt sick without vomiting. There has also been a clear discharge since my ovulation date on Feb 18. My husband and I are very healthy and I have been taking pre-natal vitamins for over a month now. I know that the statistics say I have in between a 20-25% chance of becoming pregnant and that 85% of healthy couples don't get pregnant within the first year.I also know that implantation bleeding only occurs in 30% of women so I am not sure what the blood was from but I don't think it was implantation bleeding. I have had cramping on and off since 6 dpo. I took a test this morning like the website told me to but I got a BFN!!! I am a little upset and I have been very irritable lately. I don't get cramping or nausea before I start my period and I don't think it has anything to do with my period. Do you think I tested way too soon? Should I test again? I feel like this is never going to happen which I do realize is a selfish thing to say especially when other women have been trying for a lot longer. I could use some encouragement so I don't give up completely. My husband said," Maybe I should dig out my old varsity jacket and you could wear a cheer leading skirt and then we will get pregnant faster like the teenagers do" I thought this joke was insensitive considering that we are TTC. I also know that stressing out can be a major factor in not getting pregnant. Sorry this is so long but I needed to get it off of my chest. Encouraging words anyone? more

Resolved Question: Can someone help me with this thesis statement?

I'm writing a research paper on Teenage Suicide & I started my thesis... Can someone tell me if it's good SO FAR? &I need help wording a sentence or 2 for it Teenage suicide is a growing issue in today's society. Teenagers take their own life because of emotional illness, physical issues, and problems caused by the others that surround them... { need sentences for the statistics, but don't know how to word it correctly. } ... Even though so many teenagers are committing suicide, not many people know how to stop the growing number of deaths. There are, however, many ways to prevent these incidents from happening before they even occur. HELP!... PLEASE? more

Resolved Question: Having SAFE SEX young is NOT always a bad thing?

I am absolutely sick of seeing the same answer to young girls curious about having sex with their boyfriends; "DON'T DO IT. YOU'LL REGRET IT, IT'LL BE THE BIGGEST MISTAKE OF YOUR LIFE, YOU'RE TOO YOUNG, EMOTIONALLY, PHYSICALLY, IT'LL DAMAGE YOU" This sort of reply puts more of an unnessicary taboo on sex than there already is! All this irrational bullcrap that is totally untrue. Society underestimates the maturity of teenage girls, and of course there are some total dummies, but those that are bright enough to question sex and the impact of it should not be replied to in a way that implies they are children. It's frustrating to be treated like a child when you're having adult thoughts, adult impulses, and the adult maturity to speak up and ask questions. Here's my view. I'm nearly seventeen, I had sex at fourteen, with a wonderful guy that i trusted and still trust now. We aren't together anymore, but we're best friends, and i don't regret it at all, in fact i barely even think about it. Losing your virginity, is NOT a wonderful experience, it's a slightly painful, fumbly, event that almost inevitably includes somebody banging their head or falling off the bed. Get rid of the pre-misconceptions you have of this spectacular romantic event that media creates. Sex is sex, nothing more, nothing less, and it doesn't have to be this hyped up ridiculous issue that people make it out to be. Here's the deal, if you want to have sex, have sex, but make sure you're COMFORTABLE with the person, and you do it safely. Don't get pregnant. The facts are, britain and america have massively high teen sex and teen pregnancy statistics, and do you know why that is? It's because society as a whole put a tabboo on it, and by making it out to be a dangerous, damaging thing, it becomes appealing and rebellious to angst ridden teenagers wanting to do something out of the ordinary, people need to relax, answer questions, and stop trying to convince teenagers to not have sex. Just help them to do it safely. And there it is again, as long as people have the first two answers do, pregnancy statistics will continue to go up. Maybe you should be more intent on talking contraceptives and safe sex, instead of abstinence. The first person, i'm not a know it all, but i know all there is to know about safe sex, and there's 30 plus year old women out there that have sex more recklessly than i do, and more so than many other teenagers do. more

Resolved Question: does not fitting shocking statistics about teenagers make me a loser?

i know this is a wierd question... but hear me out! i am an 18 year old high schools senior. i have gone on dates and kissed girls and stuff... but never really had a steady girlfriend. i spend my time after school relaxing and studying and talking to friends on the internet. sometimes i might go to a friend's house. im outgoing... not really socially awkward. so when i read some statistics about teenagers, im shocked! -68% of 18 year olds have had sex -31% drink regularly -other predictable increases in drug use, drunk driving, and other risque behavior so i have to wonder... does not participating in this stuff make me some kind of a loser? i mean..... if 68% of my classmates are out getting laid and i have trouble getting a girlfriend, what does that mean? damn... this is kind joking and kinda serious. im going off to college soon anyway so being cool in high school doesnt really matter but damn.... >< more

Voting Question: Should I be a writer, Im 16 and not sure?

Congratulations it's your 18'Th birthday you are a legal adult! Look at all of the things you can do; vote, get married, join the army, buy property, get a tattoo, adopt a child, make your own medical decision, and legally own a gun. Go out and have a drink with your best friends and celebrate! Wait... You can't legally drink alcohol, but you are mature enough to choose the government, decide who you want to spend the rest of your life with, defend your country by putting your life on the line, permanently alter the state of your body, take on the responsibility of another human life, decide what medications you do and don’t want to take, and legally own a weapon that can kill people. Wow that seems like you would need to be really mature, but you can’t go out and have a beer with your friends on a Saturday night, ridiculous… right? The United States is only one of four countries with the minimum drinking age of 21; there are approximately 20 states that have no drinking age at all. That’s 5 times the amount of states that have a legal drinking age of at least 21! One theory is that an 18 year olds body is not developed enough to handle alcohol. Yes, it is true that your body does change as it ages. When you are 18 it is different from when you are 21 but it is also different and more "developed" when you are 56, so since we are more mature at 56 than 21 should that be the legal drinking age? So it's your 21'st birthday and you can now legally drink, there is no magical change that happens in your body that makes it ready for alcohol. Let's face it most people have taken a drink before the age of 21; I know I have and I bet you had a drink before your 21'st birthday too. In fact, in 2005, about 10.8 million people in the United States ages 12-20 (28.2% of this age group) reported drinking alcohol in the past month. Nearly 7.2 million (18.8%) were binge drinkers, and 2.3 million (6.0%) were heavy drinkers. These numbers are probably shocking to adults, but to teenagers they are probably a little lower than what you expected right? I believe that the reason that alcohol is so tempting to teens is because it's forbidden. It's human nature to want what we can't have, just think back to the story of Adam and Eve from the bible, they weren't supposed to eat the fruit, it was forbidden, but that probably made that apple 10 times better to Adam when he ate it. If the drinking age was lowered to 18 by the time a teen would want to drink, let's say 15, they would most likely think; "Well, it's only 3 more years, I'd rather not be a criminal and just wait 3 years". But know a 15 year old thinks "Well, jeez 6 years, I need to at least try it; I can't possibly wait 6 years to drink, seriously". Okay so for arguments sake let’s just say that they think we are mature enough and that they just want to lower drunk driving deaths. There have been statistics thrown out there saying how the lower drinking age has saved “countless lives”, these numbers are not scientific and are just estimated. The truth is since the 80’s education has increased and people are more informed than ever. So there has been talk about a “drinking license” where if you were below 21 and wanted to drink you would have to take a class on responsible alcohol consumption, which sounds cool to me. Why not be informed on what you are putting in your body and be aware of how to do it responsibly. The reality of it is even though the legal drinking age is 21, that is not the average age that people take there first sip of alcohol. Three out of every four students (75%) have consumed alcohol (more than just a few sips) by the end of high school, about two fifths of students (41%) have consumed alcohol (more than just a few sips) by 8th grade, and More than half (58%) of 12th graders report having been drunk at least once in their life. One fifth (20%) of 8th graders report having been drunk at least once in their life. These numbers are not going to decrease; they’re just going to keep growing. The media glorifies alcohol and its effects. I my self was even told by a teacher that it was normal to drink in high school, that’s what the reality of our country is I truly believe that if at 18 you are responsible enough to go to war and risk your life you are more the mature enough to drink alcohol. So kids are not changing for the laws, so maybe we should change the laws for the kids. Judge it on the wrting. Do you think that I have any potential to be a writer? Thanks so much more

Resolved Question: Is this another example of big-daddy government making more rules that are not necessary?

I get tired of these senators, both state and federal, creating regulation after regulation when it's not needed. Some democrat in the Iowa Senate has decided that teenagers should be required to wear seatbelts in the back seat. The statistics are vague and unsubstantiated. Just another law on the books so some senator can place it on his resume for the next election. How long are we citizens going to allow the creation of these regulations that are not needed. I'm going to contact this legislator and let him know that our state has more pressing problems to deal with right now in the short time the legislature is in session. I think voters should watch what these people are doing at the state and federal level and drop all the legislators that cannot keep on task. http://www.radioiowa.com/2010/02/02/buckle-up-requirement-for-teens-in-backseat/I agree that it's smart to wear your seat belt even in the back seat, however, do we need the government to mandate this to us? Those who took from my quesiton that I don't care about the kids are just looking for an argument that isn't there. My point is simple, tell those elected to quit creating government intrusion on our everyday, common-sense decisions.Deb M - as a matter of fact, Iowa DOES NOT have a helmet law....is that just the biggest bunch of junk or what? Here sits a teen, all safe and sound buckled up in the back seat as a motorcycle flies by at 65 mph driven by a rider with no helmet. Are we showing our kids our stupidity or what?! I'm glad for your children that they are taught to wear their seat belts...my point is that you, as a parent, have taught your children that. GOOD! Leave big government out of it. Next year I will be taking Honors Physical Science, Honors Trig, AP Statistics, AP US History, Gym/Health, and Honors English 10. However my parents still insist on making me go to bed at 9:30 every night, even on weekends. Many nights on schooldays, I don't even get my homework done because they're so insistent on my bedtime, yet when I get a bad grade, they say that its because of my time management, however all of my teachers tell me that I am great at time management. They also insist on staying up until I go to bed and checking on me until I'm asleep. My parents say that even next year with my difficult classes, the bedtime rule will remain the same. The kids that I know in those classes are generally up until about midnight every night doing homework for their classes, and I explained that to my parents but they gave me the "My house, my rules. If you don't like it then wait until you're 18 thing." The problem is, when I graduate from high school, I will be 18 so it will be too late to change the past. Their logic is that if I stay up past 9:30 every night studying, then I will "fail all of my classes" because I will be "too exhausted to even concentrate". The other thing is, I am a teenager and am invited to a lot of parties, and I cannot go to any of them because of the bedtime rule. I need to extend my bedtime to at least 11 o'clock in order to save my academic and social career. I feel as if my parents are holding me back in both areas just because they are being overprotective. Is there any advice that you can offer? I have tried many times to talk politely and nicely to them, saying that if I do bad in my classes its my fault, and explaining that the amount of homework in my classes for next year is necessary to stay up late; however they continue on holding the same rules. Please help me! 3 days ago - 1 day left to answer. Additional Details I have also played piano and cello since I was 5 and my parents expect me to excel in both. Currently, my typical schedule is getting home at 3:30, 3:30-5:30 practicing piano and cello (my parents expect an hour on each daily), 5:30-5:45 eat, either piano lesson, cello lesson, or symphony rehearsal from 6:00-7:00, 6:00-6:45, or 6:00-8:00 respectively. As soon as I get home I get right to work on my schoolwork and studying, This school year I usually have about 1.5 to 2 hours of homework per night, but with the classes I am taking next year, kids in those classes and my school counselor said I should expect between 3 and 4 hours of homework per night. more

Resolved Question: Teenage Pregnancy Research?

Well, I'm writing a YA book about a teenage girl throughout her pregnancy and how she copes with it. The only thing I have on this is being a teenager myself, I've never been pregnant, nothing close to it. What I'm really asking is, what are the emotions young mothers-to-be go through? What do they class as their options and what do they do about telling other? I've already written the first draft of my novel but it seems to be lacking, I don't know, detail maybe about this situation because all I have to go on is statistics and tv shows, but they don't explore what I need to know. Can anyone help? Thank you in advance -Nicole more

Resolved Question: Rate this short essay?

Overall, is multitasking a benefit or a problem for the individual today? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In today’s day and age, both teenagers and adults take advantage of the progress and advancements this world has made. Technology has given us a world that is readily equipped with many different possibilities. This technology we have is controversial in many ways. Sure it provides countless hours of entertainment and convenience, but it also threatens our safety in many different situations. As I drive my car on a daily basis, I see more and more people paying less attention to the road. These interferences include things like changing the radio station, talking on a cell phone, or text messaging on a cell phone. These three things alone have resulted in numerous accidents in the past, yet people seem to ignore the statistics. It’s like today’s society acts bulletproof to the possible consequence they could face in the future. This is a major problem in today’s current population. I am a former victim in this particular multitasking problem that many American’s face today. My careless attitude changed drastically after I was involved in a situation where my multitasking had impacted my life in a big way. I once was driving home one late Saturday night when my multitasking resulted in me swerving off the road to miss a deer. This was caused by the fact that I was being distracted by a cellular telephone call. I then realized that that phone call was definitely not worth risking thousands of dollars in damages to my car, and possible injuries to my body. I am now very cautious on the road, and my phone now lies tucked away deep in my pocket. I understand that people like convenience. It adds pleasure and comfort to someone, which is what it’s meant to do. At the same time, just because something is convenient, doesn’t mean it has to be taken advantage of. These things we have to make our lives easier, should not be the same things that put our lives in danger. There is a time and place for everything, and I’m sorry, but taking your eyes off the road driving at 55-65 mph is pure ignorance. Society needs to be aware the dangers that some multitasking situations put us in. There are ways to multitask safely. I myself believe doing this while driving is not one of them. I also believe that multitasking is not for everyone. If you are even the slightest bit hesitant of your ability to function normally while doing this, then it should not be done at all. The human brain works in amazing ways, and for some people, multitasking can be worked into one’s daily life. For other’s, it may be difficult, and should be avoided if possible. You should know your limits and judge your ability to conquer multiple tasks at the same time before doing it. Multitasking can put pressure on the human brain, so always be sure to put forth limitations. Set boundaries for yourself, and make the right choices. The choices you make in this lifetime count, for you do not get a second chance. If you choose to multitask, be sure that it can be done efficiently and safely, while your kept out of harm‘s way. It only takes one time for you to slip up, and for you to find out, that your not bulletproof after all, and stress can sometimes overwhelm a person to the point of breaking. Be aware, and make smart decisions. more

Adolescent. Lazy. Easily manipulated. Naive. Irresponsible. Those are just a few of the names teenagers are known by. The media slander teenagers, every day in news papers, online forums, on the television. If teens have a bad name for themselves, does society really want them to have the vote? Or is it just the politicians? or Why should 16 year olds get the vote, when most can’t even make a simple decision as to what they want for tea? Does society really want to give 16 year olds the vote? [some sort of statistics]. in this essay I will discuss why the voting age should not be lowered to 16. Resolved Question: What do you think has changed between then and now?

I was just reading a question where an almost-17 year old said she was planning a baby with her fiance and asking for TTC tips. As you'd expect, she was bashed by just about everybody, and the only person who answered her question received something like 6 thumbs downs and no thumbs ups. When I hear of a 16/17 year old trying to get pregnant, even if it's with a fiance/husband, my instant reaction too is to think "They should wait", despite the fact that I know many people who had children (mostly accidental pregnancies) at that sort of age and I had my own son at 19 and we all managed okay. But I know of course having children as a teenager generally presents many hardships that would often not be present some years down the line when in a more financially stable situation. Anyway to get to my question, in the past (at least where I am from) it was very common and completely accepted, often even expected, for a couple to marry at 16 or 17 and have children pretty much right away. This was the case in my grandparents generation, certainly, and further back. So what has changed between then and now, do you think, that makes society so much less accepting of teenage couples who plan babies, even the couples in their early and mid twenties? I often see people being told to wait until their late 20s or early 30s to begin a family, and this couldn't be more different to how it used to be. Reasons I can think of I suppose are that divorce statistics were virtually non-existent in those days whereas they're of course very high now, particularly for couples who marry young. But then I wonder, if it's for that reason, do those people discriminate against single parents? Possibly another reason I can see for it is the culture we have today of 'welfare mums' who stereotypically get pregnant as teens and go on benefits for the rest of their lives, whereas in the past it was usually the case that a family were self sufficient (often with only the father's income) before they had children. But when somebody is personally addressing a young couple they know won't be part of the welfare culture, what is the reason then? Can you think of any other reasons why society has changed so dramatically? I'm not challenging it or saying I agree or disagree with these views, I just happen to find social change interesting, before anybody attacks me for anything.Great points everyone so far, thank you! more

Resolved Question: What do you think about juvenile crime in South Korea?

From koreantimes Juvenile Crime Increasing Juvenile crimes have been on the rise over the last few years while the average age of teenage criminals has been decreasing. Crimes committed by minors from 12- to 19-years-old jumped from 25,946 in 2006 to 41,754 last year, according to Rep. Joo Kwang-deok of the governing Grand National Party. According to research, the main reason crimes were committed was to make money to spend on entertainment. Crimes committed by accident and out of curiosity followed. By charges, larceny was the highest with 10,920 cases while violence and committing traffic violations as members of motorcycle gangs followed. The number of juveniles committing felonies, such as robbery and assault, also went up from last year. In 2001, 20 percent of juvenile offenders were 17-year-olds followed by 16- and 18-year-olds. Last year, 23 percent were 16 and 18 percent were 15. Joo said each judge of the Busan Family Court handled 4,913 juvenile cases last year. ``It is impossible for (the judges) to be in charge of every case and we need to establish a court for juvenile offences or assign more judges,'' he said. No more than five years ago, the term ``juvenile delinquent'' mainly referred to badly-behaved male students in secondary schools. But now it is quite difficult to identify the gender of offenders when individuals hear about a crime in which young students are involved. It is because the number of female teenagers causing serious crimes is poised to outnumber that by males. In December last year, a user created content (UCC) in which several female students in school uniform are assaulting another girl student was posted on a local UCC-only Web site. The offenders were punching, slapping and kicking the victim. They even attempted to strip off the victim's uniform. Fortunately, the police, who had tracked them down through a cyber investigation, charged them with mob violence. In May this year, ten female students from a primary school in Daejeon, North Chungcheong Province, were involved a group fight that left several casualties including one student suffering brain-damaged. The reason for the fight was trivial: one group of students provoked another, saying they did not want to see their colleagues studying English in a classroom. While types of female-led misconducts in the past were limited to something unpremeditated and minor, recent crimes break down the time-honored legacy. The following is a case showing how brutal and violent current female student-led crimes are. In November 2005, a 16-year-old girl was seized in Seoul on suspicion of running a buying-and selling-sex business. Reportedly, she conned several runaway girls with a proposition to make money and then forced them into prostitution. She even extorted what they earned. The money she had blackmailed for a month amounted to 1.3 million won ($1,500). Reportedly, she frequently assaulted those who refused to sell their bodies. Crimes by female juvenile on the rise The number of crimes committed by female attackers is increasing. Statistics compiled by the Foundation for Preventing Youth Violence (FPYV) show how steeply the number has grown. In 1999, female students accounted for only 2.2 percent of all offenders causing in-school crimes. But the number soared to 10 percent in 2006. According to a report released by the National Court Administration, a total of 25,946 juveniles were charged in 2006 with committing physical and psychological crimes such as physical violence, verbal abuse, bullying and extortion. The number has declined after hitting its highest of 30,706 in 2001. These figures indicate that the overall number of such crimes reported to local courts has gradually dropped. But the interesting thing is that the percentage of juveniles convicted is increasing. While, around 4,700 or 15 percent of those charged in 2001 were put behind bars, a fourth of those charged last year were imprisoned. Moderate punishment makes it worse As the figures above show, female students are no longer just victims of school violence. Many school authorities and the government are also stepping up their efforts to curb the upward tendency. But many experts say moderate punishment against school attackers is making the situation worse. A 13-year-old girl had her 11th police investigation in 2005. She was charged with breaking into a neighbor's home to steal valuables. What she did was serious enough to be jailed. But she was released following the investigation due to her age. Her first crime was actually not that serious. But her school had no countermeasures against school crimes. Teachers at the school, who had once scolded her for a series of wrongdoings, paid no attention to her as her misdeeds persisted. She became familiar with bad boys around the school and then started getting involved in crimes such as theft, assault and even hou more

Resolved Question: Can you find any logical fallacies in this short paper?

I'm writing a paper for my english class. We read a "letter to the editor" from a person in our town dissing teenagers and how they have bad manners and "tart-like clothing". We needed to write a response letter for our essay agreeing or disagreeing with her. And proving our point. We cannot have ANY Logical Fallacies (Begging the question, red herring, faulty cause and effect, etc.) or we fail the paper. Would you please read my paper and see if you can spot any? Any editing that needs to be done as well? Thanks SO much!! I feel the need to point out that the amount of well-behaved young citizens in our community is growing; because there appears to be an awful lot of put downs towards teenagers written as a majority. While it seems to be true that some teenagers nowadays are acting and dressing in a less-than-favorable manner, those who were raised to have manners and respect for all people are not being recognized. Instead, they are being stereotyped as “raised by wolves”. However, statistics show that the national graduation percentage is increasing in high schools. Families have a lot to do with this. For example, kids who enjoy family meals regularly are less likely to do drugs, smoke, or have an eating disorder. They are also more likely to have better grades and to delay sexual activity. TV Land’s “Family Table” commercials have increased the number of families who spend time doing this. “Sharing more than meals” appears to help parents raise well-mannered and healthy children. The teenagers we see running around town with little clothing on and bad table manners usually have little time spent talking with their families. However, thanks to TV Land, a lot more families are spending time together at the dinner table. This has led to an increase in children’s grades and respect for themselves. Respect for themselves leads to better clothing choices, hygiene habits, and attitudes. Spending time at the table with their parents leads to better manners, because their parents are there to reinforce them. If we continue to urge parents to spend time with their children, we should see even more of an increase in the appearance and attitudes of our teenagers. But let’s not forget we cannot possibly know the situation one family may be in, versus another. Maybe the family cannot afford clothes all the time. They could be hand-me-downs that don’t fit properly. A teen may also be having a bad day, and forget to use manners when passing you on a street. I urge you all to take into consideration that not all teenagers are the same, and many are growing into be fine young adults. A group of teenagers being rowdy on a street corner does not represent the entire population. These young adults are our future; let’s guide them into being the respectful adults they will hopefully someday be. more

Resolved Question: Some smoking statistics... True or False?

Are these stats true or false in Canada in the present day?? 1. Non-smokers have reason to complain: a cigarette smoker exhales six times as much smoke as he or she retains in his or her own lungs. 2. If all the cigarettes that Canadians smoked in one year were lined up end to end, they would stretch fourteen times the distance from the Earth to the Moon. 3. Cigarette smoking decreases the life expectancy of smokers; they stand a 2.5% greater risk of dying before age 65 than do non-smokers. 4. Nearly 27 000 Canadians die each year from the effects of smoking. Smoking is 5 times more lethal than traffic accidents. 5. When a pregnant woman smokes a cigarette, the fetal heart rate increases from 5 to 40 beats per minute for the next 20 minutes. 6. Whenever a person smokes a cigarette, his or her heart rate increases from 15 to 20 beats per minute and his or her blood pressure increases from 1.2 to 2.4 kPa. 7. It takes only 7 seconds from the time a smoker takes a puff on a cigarette for the nicotine to reach his or her brain. 8. Most teenagers do not smoke. Only 20% of all young Canadians smoke. 9. A third of all fires in Canada can be attributed to the negligence of smokers. more

Voting Question: They give us confusing advice?

Speaking as a teenager, why are we constantly being warned how 'very very easy' it is pregnant? We're told you don't even need to have sex to get pregnant / that there's a very high possibility of it if you do ever have unprotected sex / how contraception nearly always fails sooner or later, etc. One look on this section throws it all out the window. Clearly getting pregnant ISN'T automatically a breeze. I can't understand why teenage girls are given one set of information... "If you have sex, you WILL get pregnant" "You have the same chance of getting pregnant wherever you are in your cycle" While grown women who are TTC are given another.... "It's normal to take a few months to a year to concieve" "You can only get pregnant if you have sex when you're ovulating" It's very confusing. We're all ovulating women aren't we? Since when did teenagers in particular become uber-fertile baby machines? Maybe they think if we're given the actual statistics about conceiving, we'll think it's no big deal and 'won't happen to us', therefore we NEED the scare tactics (for the record this isn't true). Good luck to anyone TTC at the moment.Sorry, first sentence should read "...how 'very very easy' it is to get pregnant". more

Resolved Question: What should I write my research paper on?

I want it to be something important-to prove a point that there is something wrong with the world today. I want to focus on an issue outside or inside the United States. I know there are a LOT of issues, from healthcare to the war to the educational system, etc, etc. I want one SPECIFIC topic to choose-it has to be narrow, not broad. I wanted to write something important to me, because I believe in waiting until marraige, I wanted to write about perhaps STDs with teenagers or the divorce rate or somthing, but since I have to present this in class-I dont want them to be scared off by me. I mean I DO want them to be scared by the statistics, I just don't wanna be the one telling it to them, like I'm some sort of know-it-all or something. I dont know...I may stick with my topic but I want an outside opinion. What do you think I should write about? Resolved Question: 4 years of friendship, He's my closest friend, but yeasterday it all changed....?

Heres the basics; -We've been friends for 4 years -Went to the same college -He told me 2 years ago he didn't like me and i told him the same -he's halfed his body weight and look 'good' -He's itellegent, consistant (i've been such a b*tch to him in the past..), a gentleman, funny and he understands me -He listens to me, when i talk about other guys that i like... -We spend all of our free time at college together.. So yeasterday, i was walking him to the station (we do it when ever we have free's) and having a laugh/chat about him and me and just random stuff as you do when your a teenager... We got to the station and he had managed to miss his train by 2 mins (my fault XD) and i jokingly said you can walk me to statistics then... he refused as you can imagion... so i said you walk on one side of the fence i'll walk on the other so we can chat... so we did... and he said "i feel like i'm in one of those old fashion romantic movies" Was that his clever hint at a chat up line? Should i make a move? i know he won't he's too shy.. i really don't want to scare him off, because we are just such good friends. And ifi do how would you suggest i went about it... I know he would treat me right What doooo i do?Kandy Lips? How do i sound like a *****? He's my best friend. i dont want to damage our relationship. You have funny sense of the world, if you think i'm like that more

Resolved Question: Teenage Drivers, Your Opinion?

I was just reading an article on ABC News, stating - "For teenagers, a car symbolizes freedom, adventure, instant cool and perhaps a hint of sex appeal." How do you feel about this statement? Do you feel the majority of teens, yourself included want to drive to become 'cool' or get 'sex appeal' I've never heard of someone wanting a car for sex appeal. Freedom, yes. With the statistics of teen accidents, I think it's fair to say teenagers have it rough and are immediately thought of as being irresponsible drivers. While I can understand some teens taking advantage of driving by not obliging with the laws or being under the influence, I do not find it fair to stereotype all teens in saying they are bad drivers who are reckless when it comes to driving. more

Voting Question: Letting hate get too far?

This is another post about homosexuality, if you are going to make rude comments then leave. Just recently I read an article regarding a teenager who was killed because of his sexual orientation. To those of you who hold strong religious values, does this seem right to you? Having people die because of a gender preference? Homosexual youths are two to three times more likely to commit suicide than than other youths. There has also been a study showing that 30% of gay youth will attempt suicide. (If you don't believe me i'd be happy to show you my proof) No matter what kind of religious faith you hold, this is WRONG. This is no different than racism or bigotry. Just because your god says that homosexuality is not ok, this does not mean that you kill people over it or push others to suicide by forcefully "curing" them. Any gay who has been "cured" was never gay to begin with. Who are you to say that it's curable? Would curing heterosexuality be possible? And if being gay is a choice as some of you say, why do you think the suicide rate in gay teens is much higher than the suicide rate of straight teens? Is it because they think, "oh, I chose to be gay, but they don't like it so instead of going back i'm gonna go kill myself". ... I am not asking for complete acceptance here, (although it would be nice. I am simply asking you to tolerate homosexuality and to worry about yourselves. Is this honestly so hard to do? I would hope that the majority of you are over 18. This means that by now you should have learned the difference between what is right, and what is wrong. You can beat me to death with your leviticus speeches all you want, there is not one piece of evidence that that book is the truth. You cannot prove it right and I cannot prove it wrong, so using this book as a valid argument is downright stupid. I am using statistics shown on many websites and not websites biased on my opinion. These are FACTS. If you are happy over these deaths, I think you are a complete waste of a human being. My rant is over now. =p(Say: a few weeks ago, a pro-life Christian was murdered. Did that bother you as much?) Yes actually it does. Why would I be happy someone is dead? And how are gays "morons"?"You aren't much better since the homosexual lifestyle robs them of 21 years of their lives and kills them at a young age. It is not men that did it, but their choice. It is still not right, but when they fight to stay in the lifestyle how can we help them? You just encouraged them to keep doing it. So who is the bad guy here? not us. I think it is you. praying for you" So every homosexual on the planet looses 21 years of their life? Oh and don't bother praying for me, waste your time on someone else. more

Resolved Question: What justice is there in making marijuana illegal?

Washington, DC: Police arrested 847,864 persons for marijuana violations in 2008.Marijuana arrests now comprised one-half (49.8 percent) of all drug arrests reported in the United States. Of those charged with marijuana violations, approximately 89 percent, 754,224 Americans were charged with possession only. The remaining 93,640 individuals were charged with “sale/manufacture,” a category that includes all cultivation offenses, even those where the marijuana was being grown for personal or medical use. Commenting on the 2008 figures, NORML Director Allen St. Pierre said: “Federal statistics released just last week indicate that larger percentages of Americans are using cannabis at the same time that police are arresting a near-record number of Americans for pot-related offenses. Present enforcement policies are costing American taxpayers tens of billions of dollars, ruining the lives of hundreds of thousands of Americans, and having no impact on marijuana availability or marijuana use in this country. It is time to end this failed policy and replace prohibition with a policy of marijuana regulation, taxation, and education.” NORML Deputy Director Paul Armentano added, “According to a just-released Rasmussen poll, a majority of American adults believe, correctly, that marijuana is less harmful than booze. The public has it right; the law has it wrong.” Myth: Marijuana Can Cause Permanent Mental Illness. *Fact: There is no convincing scientific evidence that marijuana causes psychological damage or mental illness in either teenagers or adults. Some marijuana users experience psychological distress following marijuana ingestion, which may include feelings of panic, anxiety, and paranoia. Such experiences can be frightening, but the effects are temporary. With very large doses, marijuana can cause temporary toxic psychosis. This occurs rarely, and almost always when marijuana is eaten rather than smoked. Marijuana does not cause profound changes in people's behavior. Myth: Marijuana is Highly Addictive. *Fact: Most people who smoke marijuana smoke it only occasionally. A small minority of Americans - less than 1 percent - smoke marijuana on a daily basis. An even smaller minority develop a dependence on marijuana. Some people who smoke marijuana heavily and frequently stop without difficulty. Myth: Marijuana is More Damaging to the Lungs Than Tobacco. *Fact: Moderate smoking of marijuana appears to pose minimal danger to the lungs. Like tobacco smoke, marijuana smoke contains a number of irritants and carcinogens. But marijuana users typically smoke much less often than tobacco smokers, and over time, inhale much less smoke. As a result, the risk of serious lung damage should be lower in marijuana smokers. There have been no reports of lung cancer related solely to marijuana. Myth: Marijuana Has No Medicinal Value. *Fact: Marijuana has been shown to be effective in reducing the nausea induced by cancer chemotherapy, stimulating appetite in AIDS patients, and reducing intraocular pressure in people with glaucoma. There is also appreciable evidence that marijuana reduces muscle spasticity in patients with neurological disorders. Myth: Marijuana is a Gateway Drug. *Fact: Marijuana does not cause people to use hard drugs. What the gateway theory presents as a causal explanation is a statistic association between common and uncommon drugs, an association that changes over time as different drugs increase and decrease in prevalence. Marijuana is the most popular illegal drug in the United States today. Therefore, people who have used less popular drugs such as heroin, cocaine, and LSD, are likely to have also used marijuana. Most marijuana users never use any other illegal drug. Indeed, for the large majority of people, marijuana is a terminus rather than a gateway drug. Myth: Marijuana Kills Brain Cells. *Fact: None of the medical tests currently used to detect brain damage in humans have found harm from marijuana, even from long term high-dose use. An early study reported brain damage in rhesus monkeys after six months exposure to high concentrations of marijuana smoke. In a recent, more carefully conducted study, researchers found no evidence of brain abnormality in monkeys that were forced to inhale the equivalent of four to five marijuana cigarettes every day for a year. The claim that marijuana kills brain cells is based on a speculative report dating back a quarter of a century that has never been supported by any scientific study. Myth: Marijuana Use During Pregnancy Damages the Fetus. *Fact: Studies of newborns, infants, and children show no consistent physical, developmental, or cognitive deficits related to prenatal marijuana exposure. Marijuana had no reliable impact on birth size, length of gestation, neurological development, or the occurrence of physical abnormalities. Now tell me what justice is in making marijuana illegal. more

Resolved Question: What is the likelihood of a teenager getting pregnant with twins?

Well the title is basically it. I'm writing a story about a teenage girl (16) who finds out she is pregnant. I want it to seem plausible, you know? So I would appreciate if someone could give me statistics on what the likelihood of a 16 year old becoming pregnant with twins is. Also, I would like to know the survival rate of multiple births from a teenage mother is. And, finally, the chances of premature birth with a teenage mother. Please and thank you!! more

Resolved Question: Normal Distribution Probabilty Statistics help please?

I took stat 10 years ago can't remember how to do it, helping my little sis so please help if you remember how to do this. I remember the bell curve and the 50th percentile, but that is about it. 1) SAT verbal scores are normally distributed w/ a mean of 400 and a standard deviation of 90 a) What is the probability that a random person will lie between 400 and 490? (I got 34%, not sure though) b) What is the probability that a random person will score below 400? c) What is the probability that a random person will score above a 600? 2) An Airline knows from experience that the distribution of the number of suitcases that get lost in a week on a certain route is approx. normal w/ a mean of 15.5 and standard deviation of 3.6. a) What is the probability that during a given week the airline will lose less than 20 suitcases? b) same case with a mean of 11.5 and standard deviation of 3.6 What is the probability that during a given week the airline will lose between 8 and 12 suitcases? 3) The distribution of cholesterol levels in teenagers is approx. normal w/ a mean of 170 and a standard deviation of 30. Levels above 200 warrant attention. What percentage of teenagers have levels between 170 and 225?Thank you, but she probably needs a tutor. I forget this, or maybe I learned it differently. Resolved Question: What can music companies do about teenage music theft?

Voting Question: Facts of Statistics on how Family abuse affects the Teenager?

My friends and I have to do an advert. We decided that we would rather do an ad raising awareness of an issue that effects teens instead of a cleaning product or something. I would really like to understand more about this issue before we film. So if you guys could help me out with facts, statistics or info you have that would be much appreciated. more

Resolved Question: Why do you people believe all the propaganda?

For a while, I've browsed through forums (particularly for people involved in cannabis culture) and I've seen a whole lot of posts about people being very pissed off at ignorant parents and teenagers a like. All of that has motivated me to post here and ask the Yahoo community this: Why must you shelter your children from reality? Why must you put them in a psychological prison, then praise yourself as a good parent? And why do half of you dimwitted people BELIEVE any of this propaganda about Marijuana? Have you don't any research outside of these government funded propaganda pages that you get your "legit" information from? It's just really strange to see all of these people saying "Well, I'm not sure how many deaths it causes, but I know it's very harmful and causes (add ridiculously false information here)" when there's ample evidence that Marijuana is in no way harmful and is man's most reliable plant (you can use hemp for practically everything). So, do you think that Marijuana causes psychosis, brain damage, cancer, etc? Do yourself a favor and get some real information, and stop being apart of the millions of people world wide that are completely ignorant to such a harmless plant. To believe any of this false information, and to not do logical research of your own (just look at the statistics for each country where Marijuana use has increased, and compare that to the statistics of the amount of people suffering from mental illnesses or anything that Marijuana apparently causes), is to be ignorant. I had faith in the American population, but apparently, not even intelligent adults can even think for themselves anymore. Stop harming your children! I'm not trying to convince you to use Cannabis, I just want all of you to know the truth so you can be a little more open minded before you invade your child's privacy (for his "safety") and then terrorize him with crap. Anybody that pulls off all of this over protective bullshit that I've seen a lot recently are a bunch of sick, manipulative idiots. So answer me, for what logical reason do you have to believe any of this crap when there's ample evidence that Marijuana is harmless? Do yourself a favor, do some real research. For starters, watch The Union, and read up a little on sites like NORML.org more

Resolved Question: How would i finish this essay?

Driving Age to be Moved to Eighteen CRASH!!! Another dead sixteen year old dead behind the wheel of a car. If only he had not been so young and inexperienced. This is why I am advocating that the legal driving age should be moved to eighteen for the well-being of teenagers and peace of mind of patents. This is safe for all. First, many of today’s teenagers are very immature. For example, a lot of teenagers get into fights because someone looks at them wrong. If this transitions onto the road, adolescent teenagers will get looked at wrong, and wanting to settle the score, they will get into a street race. This puts the lives of everyone around them in danger. In addition, statistics show that there are more fatal car accidents with sixteen to seventeen year old drivers than with eighteen year old drivers. This may be a result of the inexperience and lack of concentration that younger people have. Imagine this, a rainy day on a slippery road, a sixteen year old doing forty-five in a thirty mile per hour zone. He arrives at a sharp turn and doesn’t step on the break, and as he is turning, the car goes into a barrel roll instantly killing the driver and other passengers. Finally, every parent deserves the peace of mind knowing that they are keeping their kids out of harm’s way. The last thing any parent wants to do is put the life of their beautiful child in danger. If the parents get a car as a gift for their child’s sixteenth birthday, the parents are potentially placing the teenager’s life in danger. Nobody wants to place anyone in harm’s way. Therefore, there are many reasons that the legal driving age should be moved to eighteen. Immaturity and every parent’s peace of mind are some reasons. --> now i have to finish it and i don't know what else to write. please help me. more

Resolved Question: Think of a title for my feature article?

ok its about teenage drug abuse for those who cant be bothered reading the whole thing, and i need a title which will sound good and stuff you know? yeh its due tomorrow son i only have tonight to think of one.. Are you a parent afraid your teenager may be at risk with drugs? Or do you already know your teen child has a problem with them? If yes, your not the only one in this situation, in a survey done in 2005, researchers found that almost one in five secondary students in Australia had tried marijuana at least once in their life, 7% had used it during the last month and these statistics are only about one of the many illegal drugs teens can be exposed to today. Teenagers today try doing drugs for many reasons, such as problems at home, stress at school, depression, peer pressure, or simply due to curiosity. However what many teens don’t know is how dangerous they really can be. What many teenagers don’t realise when they try an illicit drug is how badly they may be affected by it. Many can end up hospitalised, being mentally or physically damaged for the rest of their lives. While many teens go unharmed, a lot of teens end up with an addiction or being dependant on these drugs and keep taking them without knowing they are creating problems socially, physically and psychologically. Sarah, a 16 year old Perth girl is one teen who has been struggling with an addiction to the drug ‘ice’, otherwise known as Methamphetamine. Sarah began smoking the drug, when some other girls in her grade asked her if she wanted to come try it with them after school one day. She quickly developed an addiction for the drug, and her single mother Julie began noticing strange changes in her daughter such as random mood swings and strange sleeping patterns. Her group of friends had also changed and Sarah became very secretive as to where she would be going and who with. Julie finally realised about Sarah’s drug problem when she went into a coma due to the ice she had taken. Julie now has Sarah in therapy to help her get through her addiction. But Sarah’s problem is only one out of the many other Australian teens in similar situations. When teens use drugs, there are usually many signs in their behaviour and appearance that should be used as warnings. A common sign is a sudden change in personality and behaviour, work or school attendance may drop and the quality of work done in school may also go down. They may develop an unusual bad temper and have just an overall change in attitude. Another big warning sign is when a teen changes their group of friends suddenly. They may become very reluctant to speak about them and very secretive about what they are doing or where they are going with them. Their physical appearance may change, for example it may deteriorate. They might start wearing long sleeved shirts at strange times such as in summer when it is too hot for them. Another sign is when a teen borrows money at unusual times from their friends and family, they might also begin stealing small things from home or school. All these things should be warning sirens for revealing if a teen has been using illegal drugs. There are many ways teen these days can access drugs. A large number of teenage drug users use inhalants that are easy to access from simple everyday things such as spray paint, shoe polish or glue. Other teens will take prescription drugs when they are not needed and in large quantities. Teens have access to these drugs and many others such as marijuana, ecstasy, ice and mushrooms from other teenage kids, or even adults selling or giving them the drugs. There are many ways a teen can be prevented from abusing drugs. This requires a positive attitude from the teen, the parents and friends. Be sure to know all the affects of using these illegal substances and keep a good healthy and happy relationship between your family and talk about risks with each other. The teen should also keep themselves busy with activities such as sports or other hobbies to keep their mind active and open. Drug abuse is usually caused by stress at home or in school or by peer pressure, so by ensuring teens are well informed of the risks and are supported by their family and friends, they are at a much lower risk, but of course for some teens it is not as easy as all that. There is always help for teens who are thinking about using drugs or who already are, even if they may be in a stressful home due to relationships with their family. At schools there is always a way of getting help whether it is from a teacher, nurse or even a school psychiatrist or councillor. There are also free services for kids such as the kids helpline which has a phone number kids can call at anytime (1800 55 1800) and web counselling, in both of the teen will be able to talk to a real councillor who can help them. Teens should know they are never alone, and that there is always someone who cares and will help them. Being a teenager is arguably more

Resolved Question: Has anyone seen "England's Healthcare refuses liver transplant for 22 year old and dies?"?

http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=d12_1248118397 A man from east London who began binge-drinking at 13 has died after being denied a life-saving liver transplant. Gary Reinbach, 22, from Dagenham, was given only a few weeks to live after devel More..oping cirrhosis of the liver. He was admitted to University College Hospital London (UCL) with alcohol damage for the first time 10 weeks ago. But health chiefs ruled he should not be exempt from strict organ donation criteria which require an alcohol-free period of at least six months. Mr Reinbach, who died on Sunday, was too ill to be sent home after his admission to hospital. Teenage drinking A statement from NHS Blood and Transplant said: "This case highlights the dilemma doctors face because of the shortage of donated organs. "They have to make tough decisions about who is going to get the benefit and who is going to take best care of this precious gift." Campaign group Alcohol Concern called for more research into the way alcohol can affect young people's health. The group said it was worried that a rise in teenage drinking would lead to more people suffering alcohol-related illnesses at younger ages. Speaking about Mr Reinbach's case, a spokeswoman said: "This doesn't surprise us at all, sadly. "Statistics show that more people are getting liver disease in their 30s and, if more teenagers are drinking, people will become seriously ill at a younger age." more

Resolved Question: Does my african-american girlfriend have STDs?

I'm a white male and I've been dating this black female. Recently we've been having sexual conversations, which lead me to look up statistics on STD diagnosis' by gender/race/age etc.. This is what I got.. "African American teenagers are most severely affected; around 48% of young African American women have an STD" ...So does this mean that there's a 48% chance that she has an STD?? And she is on birth control so I'm afraid she'll be offended if I use a condom anyway. I'm very much in love with her and now I'm getting scared. more
