Open Question: Please help. Loosing my job.?

Hello. I have been working 30 hours without benefits for the same group for about 14 months. In november I had to stop working because I had reached my maximum amount of hours in a year, and it was a big surprise for me. One day I went to work and they told me that I had to stay away for about a month before return to work with my paid position. This was a surprise for my boss as well (at least that is what I was told). They told me that they would fix the situation and that they will hire me full time with benefits when I "return" to work. But I never left, they was a lot of projects and they need my work, so I worked as volunteer for the month of december. They promised to hire me as full time and to compensate in some way for my work in december. It was hard. I was totally broke over Christmas. I started getting paid in january and they started the internal process to hire me full time. Something happened and I learned that the position was been advertised online. I requested to meet with my boss many many times, but it never happened. They have been interviewing people for the past two weeks and my immediate supervisor said that it is a fair game. The best candidate would get the job. I did apply for it as well. Now I was told that if they hire someone else, I would be able to keep my part time position. There is no physical space not need for two people working in what I work. I am hurt. I also don't want to train other people. Should I talk to HR? What to do? In the last couple of weeks my boss also sent email messages to me asking to fix problems in some of my work and the message was CCed to other people from the group that has nothing to do with my work. The funny thing is that the problems in my work are not real. I feel that they don't want me around and to prove their point of why they will hire someone else, they will say that my work is no good. Please help. more

Open Question: How do I protect myself with my PayPal account as somebody receiving funds?

So... I advertised that I was able to do some translating services for people online and somebody offered me quite a bit of money to translate an English computer file into something else for him/her. They offered to pay through PayPal. While I have had a PayPal account for a few years now, I only know about making payments. That said, since I'll be on the receiving side of things this time around, I wanted to know if the person could charge back the paid funds (for any reason, since I'm providing a service), and also, if they can, how would I go about protecting myself in case this person proves to be unethical? After all, it will take quite a bit of time to do this so anybody have any thoughts? Best answer, of course, wins 10 points. Thanks in advance! more

Resolved Question: opinions on people illegally sharing media online?

i honestly dont know how i feel about it cuz yeh i love to be able to download songs for free or watch films online but i know it is destroying the entertainment industry. what does everyone else think? also, are you guilty of watching and/or downloading stuff for free? also, ive been thinking that instead of trying to stop it, wouldnt it make sense to change it in a way that benefits all? for example, people uploading tv shows on youtube usually put a copyright disclaimer naming the tv company that made the show now in hopes of not getting in trouble but the videos still get deleted in the end and then just get re-uploaded by someone else. couldnt they just come up with some sort of deal though, like get the companies to allow the uploads in return for the right to advertise on any videos which name them in the disclaimer? obviously that wouldnt solve the whole problem but it would be an improvement at least.i agree they charge too much which is why i prefer the free internet versions lol however people make music or films or whatever, it takes them time and money so if theyre not earning any money back they cant produce new stuff! more

Resolved Question: Online horse sim games similar to the old Horseland?

I used to play Horseland alot, ever since 2005, and to me it was like the best game ever. I used it mainly for graphics, but now it has changed so much, into more of a virtual little kid's world (no offense), and it is definitely not the same. I really miss creating graphics and training horses on the old Horseland, I hope some of you here still remember the good old days... lol So I was wondering, does anyone know of a good site that is similar to the old Horseland, where you can own, sell, and breed horses, and also make graphics for them? NOT something like Howrse. And preferably a site that is relatively popular, so it makes it easier to interact with people. My favorite part of Horseland was advertising to make layouts and graphics, and now it is kinda hard to do that... :( Miss it so much! If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks! more

Open Question: Does anyone know anything about the Georgetown School of Continuing Studies (SCS)?

Well, I really really really really don't want to go to UDC but I thought it was my only option... that is, until I stumbled across a full-page ad in the local paper advertising Georgetown SCS. It looks really good but to be honest I've heard nothing about it. According to (the almighty) Wikipedia, Georgetown SCS has been around for a long time and has graduated a lot of people... but is getting a degree there better than getting one at UDC? Or, is a Georgetown SCS degree the same as any other Community College? I did some searching online but I couldn't find any reviews from actual/former students...which, honestly, makes me nervous. If I went there, I would go for their Bachelors in Liberal Arts with concentration in Ethics...with the intention of getting my masters in Computer Science. Please, any help on this would be appreciated. more

Open Question: Ways to help the community ONLINE?

I know this probably sounds a little weird, but I love helping out my community, and do it as much as I can, but sometimes I don't have the time to go out and help. I appreciate it you guys.(: more

Open Question: OCD question, kinda long but please read do u think this was a sign?

I obsess over diseases. My full-on obsessions are usually triggered by something I hear on TV or the radio, something I hear in passing, and many times by things I see on signs and billboards. For instance, if there is a poster advertising something associated with a certain disease, I will frantically obsess over that disease, google it for hours and weeks, and no one or nothing can convince me I am not going to get it. There is a rational side of me, maybe like 40% of me knows I am being irrational, but the other 60% is so strong and completely disperses and overpowers the sane part of me. It's almost like outside forces are intruding into my brain and repeating things over and over..."you have this, you are probably going to get this, and the only way to not get it is to do x, y, and z" I am not conjuring these thoughts up on my own. Somehow I'm convinced that by repeating certain words in my head and tapping things a certain number of times and many other little rituals will cancel out the thought and prevent it from happening. It's even gotten to the point where if I don't tap something 5 or 7 times I fear something bad will happen to someone in my family. Also if I'm reading a book/magazine/something online, the last word I read cannot be something negative, like "bad," if it is I have to go back and make sure the last thing I read is something uplifting and happy. Also, I don't think I have pressed the back arrow button on my CD player in years. If i want to listen to something previous, I keep going forward until it starts again. And no way will I listen to numbers 6 or 13, so I always make sure I put bad songs in those places. I ride the subway a lot and when I have to hold the bar I'm convinced I caught i disease...basically any time I touch anything that hasn't been cleaned by a team of clean experts I must wash my hands vigorously. No way will I touch food or my mouth until I do so. Anyway it has become increasingly debilitating. I have been tested for certain diseases so many times that they know me by name and insinuate they don't want me back again. Somehow I can't stop worrying that something terrible would happen, and no amount of rationality can stop it. I won't even get into the specifics because I fear it makes it more real, and my biggest fear is any of these things materializing. My obsession of the week is a particular injury on a certain part of the body, and last night I was watching a TV show and they spoke of that injury...also when I woke up this morning someone was blasting the TV and the first thing I heard when I woke up was something on the news about a similiar injury...also there was a commercial for something else I was obsessing about...my question is, do you think this is a sign that this is going to happen????? I was so upset when I woke up and heard it on the TV, i started crying. I need someone objective to tell me what they think?? Any help would be appreciated so much!!!!!thanks to everyone who answered, i will try keeping a diary and going to counseling as suggested...i really appreciate you all taking the time to read this and respond with your insight...and to ladyluck best of luck to you more

Open Question: What is the age at which one becomes eligible to pay taxes?

I would like to advertise online for some products I make so I can sell some, but I'm not sure if I am exempt from taxes. Open Question: Ebonyskinshop.net has a price switch scam! But is it illegal?

When you google.Nutra Sonic on google shopping, an ad comes up on page one that says they'll sell it to you for 89.00. When you click on the link, and place the order though, they want to charge you 158.00. I called to ask how to get the 89.00 price, and the agent said they've never had it for that price. I asked about the ad, and she said someone else must have placed the ad, and linked to them. Right. Like someone else is advertising their product for them, and placing ads on google- It seems clear it's a classic bait-and-switch issue, `though I'm not sure who would buy from Ebonyskinshop.net after facing that! Resolved Question: Photography and schooling, want professional photographers opinions.?

I have been doing lots of photography work for about 3 years now. Just now have I taken it to a professional level and started doing portrait photography for families, children, couples and more. Although I like to do nature photography, I feel like I specialize more in portrait photography. To me, I am rather good with what I do with what little schooling I have had with photography. College is not an option right now, and most likely won't be for a few years due to lack of money. I do, however, take a lot of free online 'classes' and read alot about it. I don't take the classes to learn how to take pictures, I can do that wonderfully with just my talent, I like to learn more about exposure, camera settings, lighting, and other tips and suggestions. My problem is that a lot of people think to be a photographer you have to have schooling and lots of it. I am also fairly young, almost 19. I have the professional equipment that my husband and I bought prior to advertising my work, and I have a lot of experience. I think the pictures and your professionalism should prove it self when I do a person or families shots, but the thing is, I get a lot of people who look past me because of my lack of schooling and age. My prices are extremely cheap, below $100, mostly below $75, and I am confident in my work. What tips would you give me to bring in more customers? I am in the process of learning GIMP and continue reading all about new things with photography. Is there any PROFESSIONAL photographers on here that have made it where they want with out schooling? I am not going to post any of my work, because I believe every one will have their own opinions and I am already confident with what I do. Thanks so much to you all!Alright, I will post some of my work if it is that important. I charge so cheap because I feel like with my age and lack of schooling I probably can not get what I think my work is worth quite yet. Here is a post to my blog with most of my work. http://shoryphotography.blogspot.com/By the way, what is this "it" you speak of that I am so full of?http://s802.photobucket.com/albums/yy305/shorylovephotography/ So you can enlarge the pictures. Voting Question: Was Manny Villar ever really poor?

Was Manny Villar really ever poor? AS I WRECK THIS CHAIR By William M. Esposo (The Philippine Star) Updated February 07, 2010 12:00 AM “Nakaligo ka na ba sa dagat ng basura? (Have you bathed in a sea of garbage?)” is the opening line of the jingle of Nacionalista Party presidential candidate Manny Villar which is featured in a television commercial that attempts to project him as having been one of the poorest of the poor. But was Manny Villar really one of the poorest of the poor as what his advertising has been projecting? A Chair Wrecker reader from Tondo who claimed to know the Villar family when they still resided there debunked that notion of Villar ever having been poor. This information was relayed to yours truly via our response email address. The former Villar family Tondo neighbor cited reference points to support his assertion that Manny Villar was never really poor — including the claim that Villar’s father used to have a “nikaladong (stainless steel clad)” private Jeep. During the 1950s, a nikaladong private Jeep is a status symbol in Tondo, definitely not the hallmark of a poor household. Considering how Manny Villar has been dodging the serious issues pertaining to his use of public office in order to add immense benefits and profits to his businesses, your Chair Wrecker decided to do some investigating. Guess what Manny Villar’s online bio revealed: “Manuel Villar Jr. was born on December 13, 1949 in Tondo, a densely populated district of Manila. He was the second of nine children of Manuel Villar Sr., a government employee, and Curita Bamba, a seafood dealer. As a young boy, he helped his mother sell fish, crabs, and shrimp in Divisoria to help earn money to pay for his education. Villar finished his education at Holy Child Catholic School in 1962, and finished his high school education at Mapua Institute of Technology in 1966. He attended the University of the Philippines-Diliman and earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1970. He returned to the same school to earn his master’s degree in business administration in 1973.” In the early 1950s, the rich lived in the big compounds in Ermita and Pasay and what was called New Manila in Quezon City. In Tondo, you found the middle class and the poor as well. Former president Joseph Estrada also claims roots in Tondo but his family was never poor. Based on his online bio, Villar cannot really justify calling himself poor. The Villar Tondo home, as shown on his 2009 TV commercials, was made of sturdy materials. It has lasted to this day. His father was employed while his mother operated a fish, crab and shrimp dealership in lucrative Divisoria Market. It may not be Class AB household income but it is definitely not Class E. Proof that the Villar children were never really wanting is the fact that Manny Villar studied in private schools. The indigent kids went to public school. Enrolling one’s child in a private school is a middle class value and option. The indigent kids who do manage to finish high school would tend to immediately learn a craft in order to be able to earn money right away. Aspiring for a business administration master’s degree is not the usual post high school move of indigent kids. Villar narrated on his 2009 TV commercial, with Boy Abunda interviewing him, that as a young kid he thought that corned beef was soupy because that was how they used to prepare it at home. This, he claimed, was their way to ensure that everybody had a share. But the fact is that there are really two ways to cook canned corned beef. One is the dry sautéed type while the other is the soupy type where you can add potatoes and cabbage. Both the rich and the middle class enjoy corned beef both ways. Also, poor folks, especially a family of eleven, CANNOT AFFORD to eat canned corned beef. For a family of 11 to be eating corned beef confirms that the Villar family is anything but poor. That was the case then and more so now when the poor go hungry or manage to eat only one meal a day. Up to the 1980s, people from the provinces consider it a status symbol to be eating corned beef. That is why canned foodstuffs, especially corned beef, are being displayed in the sala by many households in the provinces for these to be seen by visitors. For Manny Villar to don this facade of being “poor” once upon a time just to gain political advantage should make every Filipino voter ponder as to what else he would be willing to do just to attain his objective. Wisdom from a cherished honest man Tomorrow, our family will mark the death anniversaries of our Dad and Mom who both died on the same date, four years apart. Mom passed away on February 8, 1966 while Dad passed away on February 8, 1970. Our Dad was the most honest person we knew. During the era of President Elpidio Quirino, a close friend and former classmate of Dad, an opportunity was given to Dad to make a cool P200,000 — a fortune th more

Resolved Question: Why do Conservative districts consume the most PORNOGRAPHY, could this explain why "Nailn Palin" is so popular?

Porn in the USA: Conservatives Are Biggest Consumers 8 of Top 10 Porn-Consuming States Voted Republican in 2008 Presidential Election By EWEN CALLAWAY Feb. 28, 2009 Americans may paint themselves in increasingly bright shades of red and blue, but new research finds one thing that varies little across the nation: the liking for online pornography. A new nationwide study (pdf) of anonymised credit-card receipts from a major online adult entertainment provider finds little variation in consumption between states. "When it comes to adult entertainment, it seems people are more the same than different," says Benjamin Edelman at Harvard Business School. However, there are some trends to be seen in the data. Those states that do consume the most porn tend to be more conservative and religious than states with lower levels of consumption, the study finds. "Some of the people who are most outraged turn out to be consumers of the very things they claimed to be outraged by," Edelman says. Political Divide Edelman spends part of his time helping companies such as Microsoft and AOL detect advertising fraud. Another consulting client runs dozens of adult websites, though he says he is not at liberty to identify the firm. That company did, however, provide Edelman with roughly two years of credit card data from 2006 to 2008 that included a purchase date and each customer's postal code After controlling for differences in broadband internet access between states – online porn tends to be a bandwidth hog – and adjusting for population, he found a relatively small difference between states with the most adult purchases and those with the fewest. The biggest consumer, Utah, averaged 5.47 adult content subscriptions per 1000 home broadband users; Montana bought the least with 1.92 per 1000. "The differences here are not so stark," Edelman says. Number 10 on the list was West Virginia at 2.94 subscriptions per 1000, while number 41, Michigan, averaged 2.32. Eight of the top 10 pornography consuming states gave their electoral votes to John McCain in last year's presidential election – Florida and Hawaii were the exceptions. While six out of the lowest 10 favoured Barack Obama. http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/Business/story?id=6977202&page=1 more

Voting Question: Aren’t you glad you’re not a famous rich actor/actress, going to the Oscars, because you’ve been nominated?

Especially women…they have to wear very tight and uncomfortable designer dresses in which they can barely walk, breathe or sit down. Add the high heels to that. I’d like to see how they handle peeing in public toilets in those. They usually don’t even own the dress, it was lent to them because they’re walking advertising but they have to name the designer in any interview. Any journalist on the red carpet will ask “what are you wearing?” It’s not like anybody care but it’s a requirement. The famous actress gets to wear the dress that she does not have to buy…but she has to say the designer’s name. The journalist will have to ask the question about the designer, so the actress can say the name of the designer, otherwise she would not answer any questions from the journalist and just waive and move on. You scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours. Then they have to wear those heavy, “this is the price of a house” cold stones around their neck and pulling down on their ear lobes. They don’t even own those jewels; it was lent to them because they’re walking advertising (then the jeweler has to go to court when celebrities’ personal assistant “forget” to return the borrowed jewels, ha-ha). They have to do all that while smiling a fake smile with fake white teeth, and looking a little too happy while wondering why oh why do I subject myself to this? Having money but wearing things I don’t even own…then, they remember…they got into this business for fame, fortune and adulation…none of those are easy. Then everybody will notice that they either lost too much weight or gained too much weight. Then whatever they look like, some people will criticize their fashion sense, in magazines, trash papers, online… Men will be judged by their arm candies. If she’s an unknown, sexy and half his age…then he’s a loser and she’s a gold digger. If she’s not sexy, even nice and classy, and she’s as old as him, because she’s his soul mate, then people will think “gosh, he could do better than that!” more

Voting Question: Will my work from home idea work?

Hi, I am a medical graduate from India. I worked in India as a doctor for like 6 months before moving to US.I am working my way (taking licensing tests) to enter into medical field in US. While I do that in a year or two, I am planning to make some money using my knowledge and the fact that I am studying hard for the medical tests to score high on tests. The idea on my mind is as follows: I create a website or just do some online advertising about myself. By doing either of these, I will say people to ask me medical questions about their medical problems which they are shy of asking their physicians, or they think its gonna be too much if they ask such questions to their physicians, or some thing of that scenario in which a person has a question but no access to its answer. On receiving the question I will do some research and let them know the answer (the best possible one). This will save time to the layman people and they will get an answer that will be more accurate than the one they had found out themselves. For this I will charge them a nominal fee of like a dollar or two. As I am not yet a licensed physician in US, I will say them to consult their physician before they heed on my advice (suppose if someone asks me I have this problem and what should I do rather than "What this disease it about?") What do you think? Will it work? Thanks...Basically I will help the people find the resources they need. Based on my research, I will be telling them what I found out, what different books and journals say, and the references to the resources if they need to check it out themselves. I won't be giving any real medical advice but just help people find out answers to their medical questions. I hope now I am pretty clear to all of you. Thanks.... more

Voting Question: Victim of Premiere Productions Inc. Training Scam and Ripoff. What should I do?

I am currently enrolled in the Events and Wedding Planning training program offered by Premiere Productions Inc. There are a lot of negative reviews and press about this company's business practices. I have been in the their training program for 9 weeks now and I feel that my experiences with Premiere Productions Inc. is very similar to the many unhappy students and clients who have preceded me. First of all, there is absolutely no personal and direct interaction with any formal instructors which was promised when I was sold on their 12 week training packages. Much to my surprise all of their so called training is done exclusively online through webinars that are conducted once a week. On multiple occasions, the instructor had to cancel the webinar at the very last minute without any advance notice. Very unprofessional. Furthermore, there are no opportunities to shadow or work with any experienced event and wedding planners which seems very suspect to me since Premiere Productions Inc. is supposed to be an event and wedding planning company. It turns out that a lot of vendors, brides, and couples will not work with Premiere Productions Inc. because of their bad track record and reputation in the industry. I have also been disappointed by the lack of training materials. There are no textbooks, workbooks, guides, manuals, etc... Overall the quality of the webinars have been terrible. In addition, the content of the instructor led webinars lack depth and educational value. I also get the impression that the instructor lacks formal knowledge and practical experience in Event and Wedding Planning. The training and webinars offered by Premiere Productions Inc. have been a big disappointment and waste of money. The instructor is always unprepared and doesn't seem to know what she's doing or talking about most of the time. I have completed about half of the training program with Premiere Productions Inc. and it is nothing like what they advertised. All of my emails to the instructor and Executive Director have gone unanswered. The one time that I track down Maria Cook the Executive Director, she told me that should would discuss my concerns with the corporate office. She did not seem very sincere about addressing my concerns. I followed with her several times, but she kept on giving me a lot of excuses and told me that they would make me happy. As it turns out I recently discovered that she is the President and owner of the company. I feel that I have fallen victim to their suspect and deceptive business practices. I would like to quit the training program and recover the money that I have already paid them. Now I understand why I forced to sign a non-refundable payment agreement at the time of payment. Everything about the training packages, program, and school were completely misrepresented. What do you recommend I do? Should I hire an attorney? Should I sue them for fraud since everything about the company was grossly misrepresented to me?The company's website is www.premiere-productionsinc.com more

Voting Question: I fear I may have been ripped off. What do you think?

I recently made an online purchase of something called a butt-brush. It was said to be "an innovative tool in the fight against crusty fecal matter and stray hairs in your anal region". Yet, when I tried it yesterday, all it did was scrape against my rectum until I bled. The brush has those wire or metal bristles, like a dog brush. It costs me $89.00, and I can't seem to get ahold o f the customer service department that was advertised in the ad. Also, my credit card company called and said there had been unusual activity on my account in the last twelve hours. Right now, i am having a hard time sitting, and going number two hurts really bad. Any advice? more

Resolved Question: Should I Create a Web Store that advertises the inventory of several local stores?

I live in a pretty small place.. the bahamas. I want to create a web store that advertises the inventory of local merchants (i want it to have a department store feel - eg amazon etc.). Not so much to buy online because bahamians are a bit skeptical about purchasing online, but just a place for the people to go to find out what the stores have, and act as a form of advertising for the merchants. I wanted to know if this sounds like a good idea and how much should i charge to do this and any other advice would be great. Thanks more

Resolved Question: Cheap motels near Anaheim/Orange area?

I'm going to be staying at least from April 22nd to April 26th, possibly longer, although there is a vague possibility of checking out a day or two early if I am offered a place to stay by a relative. I DO NOT CARE if there is a layer of filth on the floor, I'm cuddling rats, and playing whack-a-mole with cockroaches. I do not care if the staff is rude. I do not care if I have to do an Olympic-worthy run through a bevy of hookers and drug dealers to get to my room. I want a bathroom (preferably with a tub), electricity, and a bed. Don't even need a tv, though I'd imagine its pretty standard. I've had pretty dark times in my past, so rest assured that such an environment wouldn't ruin my vacation at all; I'm trying to avoid sleeping in my car, because I think that would. In the past, when I've gone places, I've done internet research on motels and hotels, and always found something cheaper advertised on a sign when I got there . . . I remember once stopping in Illinois and a front desk staff member assuring me I'd find nothing cheaper than his $55 a night. At the next interstate exit, I found one for $24. In my experience the cheapest rooms are unknown motels that don't show up online, so I'm sort of interested in those. It's just me staying and I am a smoker so a smoking room is ok, but I don't smoke inside at home so a nonsmoking room is fine as well. No pets. No need for amenities. Anything within about 15 miles is good; further is also ok if its cheap enough to make up for gas. I plan to go to Disneyland or other touristy places, but the primary function of the trip is meeting long-lost family. I've found a room that is listed as $35 for weekdays and $40 for the weekends; after taxes the four-night stay comes to about $168. I know that's not bad, but I've already taken too many "little luxuries" regarding this trip. I didn't do comparative rates on my rental car at all, so I'm trying to trim the fat. Thanks. more
