Open Question: Im trying to start my own business...?

I would like to find some small businesses to offer my services for free... This is for me to practice some internet marketing skills that I wish to offer in the future... I would be able to make them more seen on a local level and also help develop a strategy for them to get positive reviews placed where people will read them and be more encouraged to visit their business. I have already done this for a few friends and so far it seems to be going good. I would also like the opportunity to ask a few questions about their current marketing strategies. Things Like... How long have you been in business at this location? How many locations do you have? What types of advertising do you do? Do you ask your customers where they found you? What % of customers are found online. What is your monthly marketing budget? What % of marketing is online? Can anyone else help me think of some questions I might need to consider? I would really like to find volunteers in different cities. I think this service would be great for restaurants, and independent agents like Realtors, insurance agents and travel agents. I don't want to lie to get people to let me try with their company and so far everyone has said no... Any suggestions? You misunderstood. I would ask those questions to learn the industrys and how they currently ARE marketing. i think to really offer them something I need to know what they are doing already wouldnt you agree? What I would do is make them more visible online. Thats it... and I would like to help me determine a fee using that information that they provided while answering those questions as not to charge something over the top and not to sell myself short.I know there are a lot of business that can benefit from this. It is not SEO. Its using the map on the front page of google searches. There can only be 7 companies on that front page map. so its kinda prime real estate. Problem is noone gives me the time of day. They just say not interested. Im not a salesman... more

Open Question: What ways can I advertise to sell my farm?

I want to retire and today I am age 62. All I have left is 64 acres and want to keep 4 to fix my home and sell it later. The 60 is bare land. I ran an ad in the newpaper $110 in Indianapolis Indiana for a week got no calls. Craigslist was gettign me 3 calls a day but no buyers just lookers with no money. I need CASH not a contract and I am below market price on the land for example 1/2 is wooded and I saw 60 acres worse than mine sell for $1700 per acre at land auction 4 miles away 3 weeks ago, I would survey off 30 acres of woods for $1500 per acre. If the places I run ads are not working and my price is fair and since people were calling me then there is an interest in my land I feel all I have to do is find the proper place to advertise the land so it sells. But the newspaper i used did not work and online has not worked just alot calls no buyers with money. I have considered drive around Indiana and hang up land for sale flyers? Or do mail outs? Both i tried but very limited and got 4 calls. 2 from flyers at an Amish auction near here held each Friday and 2 from flyers to hunting stores men wanted hunting land. My price is fair and my land is below market and nice location with nice neighbors and I have a fish business that will make the payments. I just want to move far away and have no interest in credit sales I need cash. Banks are not making loans now and the people who wanted my land cannot get money MY question is Where Can I advertise to find a real buyer with money? Realtors have not worked I gave 600 realtors an open listing and no buyers.THE QUESTION IS NOT where can I get a LOAN that for for the BUYER I am the SELLER the question is WHERE CAN I advertise to FIND NEW BUYERS. What is all this about LOANS ? Banks are only loaning on 10 acres or less so I need someone wh already HAS money. What places can i Advertise to find new buyers. ??? What WAYS ?i am 62 years old I do not want to wait until the country gets better I also do not want to lower my price I am way below market now, what i want is ways to find buyers because I am VERY confident a buyer is out there ready to buy and who has the money. I need ways to locate them. more

Resolved Question: teachers, have you ever used a video game as a teaching aid?

i was just over in the video game section and somebody was asking if there was a video game about the economy, were you could sort of program your own and see what happened. and it got me thinking about all the Mass Multiplayer Online games i play that have their own economy, and how a lot of them could easily be used to explain economics to students. there is supply and demand, advertising, stock market like situations with people trying to sell before the price gets any lower or buy before the price gets any higher, all sorts of that stuff. its just one example i can think of. but it got me wondering, any teachers out there, have you ever used a video game as a teaching aid? if so, what game was it and what did you teach with it? if you are opposed to the idea, please state why. or, if you haven't and are not opposed, would you be willing to if given the ok by the school district?i also would like to point out i dont expect video games to become any sort of dominating force in the world of teaching. but i can honestly admit that had world of warcraft existed when i was in high school (came out the year after i graduated) and a teacher could show me how the economy of the real world was like that of WoW, it surely would have made things more interesting than just reading about it in a book. and i love readingdavid, i get where your coming from with the real world experiences thing. it wasnt online or anything, but a math teacher one year set up our class in pairs, and gave us monopoly money to "buy" stocks so we could learn about percentages and things. it was a lot of fun, we learned math an economics. and in freshman year at our high schools we KNEW we were going to play "the game" where we were put in pairs and assigned a country. throughout the year we did various reports and projects on that country, including the whole year where we had to chart and keep track of our countries "economy" based on trades and things we made with other countries. it just sort of makes sense to me now that if there were a video game to help teach stuff, and it were utilized properly, it could help a lot of kids learn. more

Resolved Question: How can I make money properly from affiliate marketing using free social media and clickbank?

I am on a modest budget and would like to laern how to make money using clickbank and social media properly without spending money on advertising such as Google Adwords. With so many so called systems out there I would rather a system that actually lives up to its claims if you have a step by step that you follow and DOES make a good residual income. I really want to get out the rat race and have at least a decent second income by the end of this year and then eventually be able to have a full time income online selling affilate products to begin with. more

Resolved Question: scammed looking for a place on craigslist?

I was looking for a place on craigslist and i emailed my inquiries to the email address provided and this email was sent back to me from karen@dallasgazette.net Hello, Thanks for taking the time to email me about the place. We thought we had the place rented last week to a young couple, but communication has dropped off. you are the first person to email about it since we put it back on the market . It would only be fair that we gave you the first shot at the property. Normally, we would prefer a year lease, but would also be open to shorter terms. I'm sure that you will want to see the property before making a final decision. I would simply give you the address and let you swing by, but my husband is against blindly advertising an empty home online. Rest assured the home has been up kept properly and had a good cleaning and fresh coat of paint. Basic utilities are currently on, but we expect that you would get them put into your name fairly quick. If you want to go ahead and schedule a time to see the property, go to the link below and print off the free copy of your report. Your score isn't necessarily important, we're just interested in seeing that there are no evictions / landlord related judgments. Here is the link: HERE I am very open as far as appointments go to show the property. Any morning after 10am is fine. Just let me know when you have everything printed and be sure to leave me a contact number to reach you at and any desired time. I will call you to confirm a time and choose a place to meet. Thanks for looking, So, I got a credit report my.creditreport.com and i was wondering if it was a legit site. then she told me to click on this link (http://forms.aweber.com/form/64/1434016664.htm ) and stupidly i did but it led me to a blank page. Then i found out it was a scam. Through all this will this person be able to access any of my information such as my social security number or my credit card number? if so what should i do next?i actually didn't email this person my SSN or my credit card number but i had to put it in that website (my.creditreport.com) and i was wondering if they would be able to somehow access my information from this webstie? more

Voting Question: Gianvi Birth Control?

Last night my pharmacist convinced me to switch from Yaz(which I've been on for about 2 years) to a generic version of yaz called, Gianvi, to save money. I decided to look up Gianvi and see if it is the same, and what I found was pretty scary. Apparently Bayer(maker of Yaz) is suing Teva and Barr(makers of Gianvi) for "false advertising and patent infringement in connection with Teva’s generic oral contraceptive Gianvi™ Gianvi™’s label falsely claims that its formula and product, now in the US market, contains the same product stabilizer as YAZ® (drospirenone & ethinyl estradiol) Bayer’s oral contraceptive / Suit filed in the Northern District of Illinois (Chicago)" My pharmacist swears up and down that Yaz and Gianvi are the exact same thing, but I've also found people online saying Gianvi is causing them major stomach pains, mood swings, fatigue, and weight gain. Basically my question is should I be taking Gianvi over Yaz? I'm really worried, but I never know what I can trust online. Sources in answers would be very much appreciated. Sorry for wall of text. more

Resolved Question: What are the living conditions like in Switzerland?

Hello, everyone :) I've been doing research online about what life is like in Switzerland because I have been thinking about the possibility of moving there. If you have moved there, how would you compare it to where you lived before? And what is it like to those who have always lived there? As some background information on myself: I'm currently 18 years old, going to college in the fall, majoring in graphic design, plan to minor in advertising. I come from a middle class family. Basically, I'd like to know how good life would be there? Is there a good market for graphic design/advertising? How are taxes and living expenses? And I know that I will have to learn at least German before living there; is there a major difference between traditional German and Swiss German? Sorry for all the questions in this one lol more

Resolved Question: Is public Investment in Stock Market just a tool to fool people used by big businesses with the help of Govt.?

If you wanna invest definitely some one will show you the path of stock market. I feel it is just wastage of money and time and physical and mental energy.Ultimately one gets nothing but loses everything. You buy something over which you no control. If you buy a house you can modify it,decorate it,advertise it and get handsome return but here you have some entries only-online or offline and your job is finished ,now just sit and watch. You buy anything else it has some actual value, hence its rates don't generally fluctuate like lightening in the sky.If you buy stocks, their rates are just imaginary, they can go to hell or heaven anytime without any valid reason. Hence I conclude whatsoever calculations or studies are done by a layman stock market is a hell for him, which should be never touched . Stock Market is just a tool to fool public by big business people with the help of Govt. Please suggest. more

Resolved Question: California Real Estate Agent requirements?

Hello,.... I am seriously considering becoming a real estate agent. I have wanted to be a realtor and own a real estate investment company since I was 12. But I have a couple of basic questions I would love to have an answer too. You have to be 18 to get your license right? But can I start studying for it before then? (I am 17, 18 in March) How long does it take? Is it like a year long process or a couple months, weeks, what? Where is a good online place to take these courses? The BIG question is that I live in Iowa right now, but I really want to be in California doing real estate (and don't say "oh, you really should do it in Iowa, a place where you're familiar" because I will never stay in Iowa. haha) I know its hard to build a customer base but I don't have any other option. So back to the question at hand, can I live in Iowa and get my license and then move to California a little later on? (for example, get the license in the Spring and move late Summer early fall) or do I have to live in Cali for this whole process? Do you have any suggestions on what I should take for college courses? Right now for the fall semester I am taking Selling, Principals of Advertising, Principals or Marketing, and Digital Photography. I was just taking classes that I thought I would enjoy and that may be beneficial. Any other info you have please feel welcome to share! I know the market is not the best but LA is really where I want to be and Real Estate is what I love so I figured I should go for it, I really have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Thanks more

Resolved Question: Internet Advertising Marketing Question?

What could be expected as a "normal paid conversion percentage" using clickbank to sell a training program to make money online in the cellular phone industry, purchaser buys training program online for S 49.50 that teaches them how to market a free website that they are given with the training Program. Out of every 100 visitors from Quality online traffic, how many would convert with a solid offer that is backed wirh a 60 day money-back guarantee - that states if they do not earn at least $1000.00 in the first 60 days - by simply applying what they are taught in the training program they will receive a refund for training program. How much of a difference would it make regarding "paid conversion percentage" if the offer was $19.95 verses $ 49.50? . more

Resolved Question: Does anyone else think video games jumped the shark with the next gen consoles?

Does anyone else think that being a gamer just isn't cool anymore? I know that for as long as I've been alive, society's look on video games has been that they are bad for you and make you lazy, (OR maybe it's just the dumb grand parents I had when I was younger) or in the worst case scenario, they are played by basement dwelling people with no lives. Anyone who grew up playing the NES, the SNES, etc. knows that that was never true, but it was a hard thing to convince people of other wise...Especially parents. But now, the people who never latched onto a brand in the console wars, the people who just like to plop down every once in awhile for a half hour here, an hour there, and play a good all around game seem like a fleeting percentage of the video gaming community. It seems like now you are either one of the hardcore PS3 or XBOX 360 fanboys, or an old person or little kid who likes the Wii. There isn't a lot there in between for the people who have other hobbies or lives outside of gaming. Also, all this Netflix, Facebook, and other stuff you can do with a console seem lame. It's for people who can't go turn on their computer and use it. I just want to play a game with my system! At this point, it seems that most of the video game companies are trying to snare us into not needing anything else but their system to meet all of our entertainment needs, and with the PS3 HOME and all the online socializing you can do that takes the place of real and more meaningful relationships you can have with people in real life, it seems a little bit too close for comfort for me. Lastly, I don't exactly now where this started, but it had to be some marketing people at clothing companies. There is a certain look that I see advertised for gamers. I guess it follows, society's hip hop trend and the slacker trend, where not being cool and acting emo is cool. But everyone I see on G4, from some of the guests on X-PLAY to the people walking around at the conventions usually have those trendy box framed emo glasses, flannel shirt, stripped sweater, or dresses like a rapper, or wear some t-shirt that looks like the designs or logos was splatterd on with paint. Then, I see these same types of styles out in real life, the mall, video game conventions, and I'm like, "Wait. I thought it was only one or two people I saw before dressed like that." Apparently, no body grows up and just wears paints and nice shirts... But for me, it just seems like there is too much that comes with being a gamer these days. Be it all the idiots you have to hear get belligerent about the console wars or when they lose online, the style of clothing, and the amount of time game developers expect you to drastically cut away from real life to beat a game, it just doesn't seem worth it or like something I'd ever be into. I was happy with PS3, XBOX, and Game Cube. Oh, well time to go fire up the NES and play "Nightmare on Elm Street" or "Bad Dudes..." which don't take 70-100 hours to complete. more

Resolved Question: What business idea should I choose?

I am 13. Over the summer, I want to start an online business. I am currently taking a Business Camp at my school. My ultimate goal is to make six or more figures a year, and become Financially Independent. I know it sounds crazy since I'm only 13, but it is my dream. I have 2 major online business ideas that could work, but I need help choosing the one that would make the most money. 1. My first idea is a website where free users can submit original songs and other users can listen, rate, comment, share, and chat with other users. I would also have an area where users can post info and another area where bands can find new band members. To make money from the site, I would sell ad space, sell an ecourse on songwriting, and maybe creating a pro membership if the site becomes big enough. I have a problem though. Since I have no coding experience, I would have to hire a web design firm to create the site. The problem is that it might cost a lot ($100,000) to create the site. If it does cost that much, should i hire a programmer from elance or something like that? Thats how the website Digg was created. If it still costs a lot, should I have my parents apply for a loan from SBA? Overview of #1: Target Market: Musicians, Bands, Independent Artists, Songwriters. Revenue: Ad space, Pro Membership Costs: Website, Marketing, Website Matinence Type of Business: Online Business, Online Company, Service Business Idea #2. This idea is a basic business idea. I would create a basic website (not a webs.com type of site, but not a huge firm site). I would join a well reputated wholesale company that sells and dropships musical instruments. I would list the products on my site using an eccommerce section, and allow customers to make orders. I would price the products to make profit. When I get an order, I send the order to the wholesale company, and they ship the products within 24 hours. They are most likely always in stock, and will notify me of any problems. Overview of Idea #2: Target Market: Musicians, Bands, Independent Artists, Dj's, bass players, guitarists, drummers, keyboard players, lighting people, record producers. Revenue: Profits from Products, Advertising on Website Costs: Dropshipping, Cost of Products, Website, Website Matinence, Marketing Type of Business: Online Business, Online Company, E-Tail Business, Retail Business, Ecommerce, Product Business. Which idea do you like the best? Which idea do you think is most profitable? If you think #1 is the best and most profitable.... Why do you think that? How should I build the website? Will the website cost a lot? Should a get a loan from SBA? Would people like this site? If you think #2 is the best and most profitable.... Why do you think that? Do you think it is a good idea? Please help me. Even if you don't think any of these are good ideas, if you had to choose one, which one would you choose? Thanks! Also, I just received a call from my grandpa saying he is willing to invest money into either one of my ventures. Another GREAT THING is that I just realized my cousin is finishing college and was in college for web design. Even if it is a not perfect site, it could be a prototype. Also, he wont charge to build the site. Let me know what you think! more

Let me know what you think! more

Resolved Question: I am a college grad - 3 jobs in 2 1/2 years how do I explain this in interview?

After college (marketing degree) I am having a heck of a time holding a job, I am developing a distaste of corporate behavior and generally hate work. I have focused on sales jobs, thinking that I could make a lot of money with little work. What I have discovered is that I am a horrible sales person. Job 1- Selling advertising space for a huge job search company. I lasted about 7 months and quit a week before I was going to get fired. (90% of my training class was gone at that time) Job 2 - Selling online training to HR and IT professionals - lasted almost a year, me getting fired was again inevitable used up my vacation hours, came back and quit. Job 3 - 10 months woot! selling insurance this time, they saw potential but my progress was not fast enough, they fired me. I did learn from these experiences and have grown as a person, but just not too sure how to answer an employer when they ask me why I blew through so many jobs (with huge reputable companies) How should I respond? more

Voting Question: Offshore banking and Web hosting for UK company - Intelligent contributions only please?

I run a few businesses in the UK, however one of my companies sources and wholesales 'grey market' designerware and footwear from manufacterers mainly in China and Italy to clients across Europe. I run and advertise this business completley online, even though the distribution of grey market products is legal under EU law. I still receive legal threats from brand companies even though the products were manufactered under licence, under my agreements with my suppliers I can not disclose the origin of the goods to brand companies to prove authenticity. Any advice on making this a completely anonymous operation through using an offshore bank account and web hosting. I in no way plan on evading UK taxes however I do not wish to be harrassed by large companies even though I tell them to shove it anyway. Intelligent advice only please, comments are greatly apreciated. more

Voting Question: Cosmetic companies falsely advertising products due to legal control from pharmaceutical companies?

I was at a salon today and the lady was telling me about a sunscreen they sell at the store (I can't remember the name - starts with a "P") which is made by a company in Japan. She highly recommended it, saying it was SPF 50+ When she showed me the bottle, it was labelled SPF 15+ and so I asked about that. On the actual packet itself was a label saying SPF15 - which was covering a label underneath (you could see it a little) saying SPF50. She said: due to (some) legality, cosmetic companies aren't allowed to market their cosmetics above SPF15, so if they're actually SPF50 then they have to label is as SPF 15. This is because of pharmaceutical companies having control. Is this true? In which country/ies does this occur (I'm in Australia)? Why? Is there anywhere I can access this information online? more

I've been throwing my resume down the gaping holes of craigslist, careerbuilder, etc and talked to various employment agencies so I'm not just sitting around on my butt. I'm told that a portfolio helps but I'm still newer to graphic design. If anyone is in HR or is familiar with the hiring, interviewing process I would really appreciate a look over at the portfolio site. I'd love a job with marketing, advertising, writing...etc. just no sales!! Dont know if the portfolio reflects that. It still needs work with the scrolling and all that...but i'm more interested on the things i can change myself like the content and background. =) thank you so much! Resolved Question: One Stop Motors ????

Has anyone ever sold or bought a car from One Stop Motors? or even heard of them? I placed an add for my car on ebay and within 3 days One Stop Motors contacted me saying they could advertise and get my car sold for $499 non-refundable for more than what I was asking, that they would continue to advertise it until it was sold, and it would come up on the top 3 of any search engine. However, being skeptical I said sure if you could mail or email me a list of the services and advertisement sites you plan on using that you just described to me over the phone.... well that's when all hell broke loose.... and they had me check out their website and read their blanket agreement online and do everything but send me a contract or description of exactly where, how long, and how many websites / ads they planned on marketing my vehicle. The only way they would divulge that information was in an invoice that I would get only after I paid them my $499 non-refundable. They just seemed shady especially if they do not offer their to-be customers with a solid assurance of where their money is going to be used towards and it is non-refundable. Has anyone here ever sold or bought a car from One Stop Motors and if so how did it go? Has anyone here even heard of One Stop Motors. more

Voting Question: What are the laws regarding online pharmacies in Canada? (Ordering FROM Canada)?

All I can find is information about laws regarding importing from Canada to the US... I live in Canada, and am suffering from EXTREME insomnia, and have only recently found out that all of the good sleep aids that are advertised, and sold in the US are not available in Canada. All we have is Temazapam and this stuff that makes you slightly tired, and makes everything taste like metal... Ambien and Sonata are approved for sale in Canada, it's just not sold... Sonata (or Starnoc, as it was here) was taken off the market in 2006 because Canada wasn't a big enough market for the company... Anyways... My doctor has wrote me four different prescriptions in the past few weeks for things I can't even pronounce, so getting a prescription shouldn't be a problem... I figure if it's approved in Canada, and there are distributors selling it online (only), why would there be any legal problems? --- Oh, and would my insurance cover it the same way they would if I just went to a regular pharmacy? How would that work?If Americans can buy prescriptions from Canada, I see no reason why it would be illegal for Canadians to buy them from Canada? more

Resolved Question: I am going to be a DAD! I need to make $10,000 in 2 months from my new business. Help me with ideas! (Please)?

This post is not some sort of cheap attempt to get a measly few more views on my site from this community. I genuinely want your ideas on my situation. My situation (A new beginning): I just started an IT business a few months ago on the Gold Coast (IT Support, Web design, Computer repair, Computer sales etc). I went all out and QUIT MY JOB to make this happen. Most of my available funds and time have gone in to equipment, general setup (server, web site, some starter clients). I have a couple of refered clients (from friends and family) but not nearly enough to cover my old wage as an Network Administrator. Dilemma (The news): Soon after Quitting my job to start this business I found out I AM GOING TO BE A DAD! Great news...! I am ecstatic! but fearful at the same time because of my situation. My wife will soon be unable to work and I will need to support the family myself. Doing the sums, I figure that unless my business makes an extra 10k in the next 2 months (to cover some financing etc) I will have to give up on the Business and look for work. That would not be a good option as it is hard to find a good salary in IT on the Gold Coast to cover living expenses for Me, My wife, My Mother in-law (living with us) and a new born due in in a few months. So you see, my business MUST WORK! I have no other option. About 5 - 10 new steady clients would do it, but how?! Done so far: Here are some of the things I have done so far (Please be honest with your criticism on these, I need to know what to change): *Registered a business name "DO IT Solutions" (Direct & Online IT Solutions) *Purchased a 1300 number 1300 DO IT 4U / 1300 36 48 48 (cheesy I know) *Created a dot com dot au website (I hope I am allowed to put this:) doitsolutions.com.au *Created a "DOITSolutions" facebook page with a custom welcome page using FBML facebook.com/doitsolutions *Created a twitter account twitter.com/doitsolutions *Linked the special offers on my web site to an RSS feed which updates Facebook and Twitter *Offered a discount for facebook fans (to help raise the amount of fans that will in tern receive my specials via facebook as listed, there are 47 at the moment I think, just friends of mine) *Added links from the front page of my web site to become a facebook fan or follow on twitter *Listed with online advertising on Truelocal (com au site) for $300 / month, considering cancelling it as only getting about 1 view per day and no calls :( *Listed with many other free online advertising sites and some cheaper paid ones (Clickfind, dlook etc) So far I just haven't managed to penetrate the market enough. Please help me think of ideas: Example idea: 1) Brochure, local handout: I am thinking of creating a brochure. One side with an IT Support special and the other side with a Web design special. Maybe a cheap monthly payment plan for a new website (eg. $70 - 80 / month, maybe including domain registration and web hosting or similar) instead of reducing my upfront amount web site amount. And then delivering it to my local businesses. I would hate being one of those annoying people that drop and to give you a brochure unannounced, but I am that determined to make this work. Please, any ideas will help. Share a story about a a similar experience, or a possible idea for a plan. Any input would be much appreciated! :) Michael A. more
