I think I can do kinda average on the SAT. I got a 151 on the PSAT, I will be taking it again because I took it at the beginning of sophomore year. I will also be taking most of the AP tests and I think I will do pretty well on them. I took the AP world history and I got a 2... I was really surprised & I know I can do better than that.
I exceeded on my writing, reading, & math AIMS exams (the standardized test for Arizona)
The school I really want to get into is UCLA and I currently live out of state. What are my chances of getting accepted and what should is do to make my chances better? Also of getting scholarships?
moreOpen Question: Given my stats, do I stand a chance at these schools? I know the schools at the top are the hardest.?
-GA resident, male
-Ethnicity:mixed Hispanic (Spanish) and Asian (Filipino). Would I count as a full URM even though I'm mixed?
-UW GPA: 3.94ish
-Weighted GPA: 4.14
-school doesn't rank, but I got an award for being the junior with the highest weighted GPA, meaning I'm a would-be valedictorian.
SAT I's (I'm retaking this October or November. I will aim for getting as close to perfect as possible.)
Math: 800
CR: 730
Writing:710
SAT II's (Would it be worth my time to take some more?)
Math II: 800
Chem: 720
U.S. History: 710
AP scores:
AP US Gov and Politics-5
APUSH: 5
AP Chem: 5
AP Eng. Lang: 5
Senior Load
1. AP Calculus BC
2. AP Statistics (is it true stats is not really math, but is more like reading?)
3. AP Biology
4. AP Physics C
5. AP Literature
6. Economics (I wish my school offered AP.)
-school doesn't offer honors classes, but mentions "due to the rigorous curriculum of the school, no classes are designated as honors" in school description.
My only B's have been graphic design freshman year, AP Gov last year(will a 5 on the exam atone for this), and a mandatory composition class at our school this summer? I got straight A's junior year.
-will mention Math, Economics, and Chemistry respectively as my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice majors. I want to be an investment banker or hedge fund manager when I grow up.
EC's:
Boy Scouts
-Eagle Scout (just did my board of review). My project was building benches, pressure-washing old ones, and putting sealant.
-Senior Patrol Leader during 10th grade, Patrol Leader during 9th
-broke a national record for hiking. I hiked the Bartram Trail (100 miles/5 days, has a lot of elevation): honored by Governor Sonny Purdue and national head of boy scouts for this feat
-LOTS of community service projects
-raised money for inner-city kids to buy scout uniforms
-Philmont Summer 2010
Tennis (all 4 years)
-private lesons
-varsity tennis
Academic Quiz Bowl team (10-12)
I founded and am president of our school's food critic club. We go to restaurants about once a month and write critiques about them, which are published in the school newspaper. I'm trying to see if we can get published in the Zagat Survey.
Trumpet
-private lessons
-Superior Rating (9,10,11) at Solo Ensemble Festival
-Community Jazz Band (9-12)
-GISA all-select band member (11th grade) (top band members of private schools in GA)
-played for church on Sundays
-invited to play at school's open house 10th grade
Piano
-lessons
-invited to play at several concerts
Young Republicans (should i say this? i know prestigious colleges are very liberal?)
-Vice President in club
-Raised money every year for troops in Iraq and Afghanistan (don't know exact amount, club's teacher sponsor can tell us).
-campaigned for McCain for president, and Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson for U.S. Senate
Duke TIP summer program (summers after 9th and 10th grade, I respectively studied macroecon. and robotics)
Academic Awards:
-Georgia Certificate of Merit
-Phi Beta Kappa Award (given to Junior with the highest weighted GPA in class)
Miscellaneous:
I also volunteer at the library during the summer.
-I'm almost certain my PSAT score will qualify me for semifinalist standing in the NMS search. I didn't fill out Hispanic in the ethnicity section, so I wont get National Hispanic Recognition Program Honors.
Recommendations: I know several teachers at my school who like me and will probably write well about me.
Essay: 1) talk about perseverance, about how I thought I could accomplish anything after my national record hike (would this sound too trite?)
2) talk about how certain adversity in a trumpet competition didn't kill my trumpet passions.
Schools I'm applying to:
MIT (#1 Choice, bar none)
Harvard
Yale
Princeton
Stanford
UPenn (Wharton)
Brown
Duke
WashUSTL
UChicago
Northwestern
UCLA
Vanderbilt
Rice
GA Tech (safety)What can I do to narrow down my list? Do people on College Confidential generally know what they're talking about? Is 15 schools too much?
moreResolved Question: Can I do to get into one of the top universities?
Okay so i really want to go to a good university (schools like upenn, nyu, cornell, etc) but I'm not sure if I can get in. I'm going into junior year. My current GPA is pretty high at 3.96 and the lowest its ever went to throughout my high school career was 3.75. But i know grades aren't the only thing. If I was to write a good essay would these things make me in the running for top schools like the ivy leagues?
Freshman- I took honors math, english, and us history but the only extracurricular I did was chorus at my school and gospel choir at church
Sophomore- I did Varsity Volleyball, FBLA, And about 4 hours a week at the boys and girls club for 5 months. I also did volunteer tutoring at my school two days a week for about 3 months. I took the subject tests and got 690 in us history and 670 in math. (i might take those over to try and get higher) I also got inducted into the National Honor Society and the National Society of High School Scholars this year (but i think that goes towards my junior year. not quite sure)
Junior- I plan to do volleyball again (varsity) and also FBLA. My teachers recommended me to the yearbook committee (since im good at photography and photo editing) and the school newspaper so i plan to do that. I take my first AP classes next year (only two: AP Lit. & Comp. and AP World History) and Honors Calculus.
Senior- If I keep my grades up (which i more than likely will) i'll get recommendations to AP Statistics, AP Bio, and AP Spanish Lang. and AP Gov and Politics. I plan to do the same activities as listed above but I will definitely do more volunteering since my schedule will be shorter and I'll have the SATs (which will take up a lot of my afternoons and weekend with studying) out of the way.
I know I didn't really do much my first two years because I am shy and was just warming up to being in high school but I'm hoping that since I'm doing more things junior and senior year that colleges won't think I'm only doing it just to fill my application with stuff.
Ohh and this summer I'm doing an internship with a film production company and they might try and keep it throughout the school year so i'm wondering if colleges look at your summer internships as well. So please, any recommendations for me? Do i need more things? Or am I fine? I would greatly appreciate it. :)
moreOpen Question: If the violent crime-illegal immigration link doesn't exist, then what were the real motives behind sb1070?
As Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer last spring signed her state's landmark bill cracking down on illegal immigration, she listed crime as her biggest reason.
Her signature, she said, aimed to solve a "crisis (of) border-related violence and crime due to illegal immigration."
If she'd gone to the one Arizona city that confronts Mexico most directly - Nogales, where the border separates the town into American and Mexican components - she'd have discovered the connection she claimed simply does not exist.
In 2000, Nogales experienced 23 rapes, robberies and murders. Last year, after 10 years of population growth mostly through illegal immigration, there were 19. Aggravated assaults dropped by one-third. There have been no murders for more than two years.
So much for the immigration-created crime wave.
Yes, there is crime aplenty in Mexico, especially drug-related crime in cities like Tijuana and Juarez on the border. But illegal immigrants have not brought that with them. Many, in fact, come to America to escape it.
Yes, there is the occasional violent crime along the border. A Cochise County rancher was killed in March, possibly by a drug smuggler. A sheriff's deputy in Pinal County was shot and wounded in April, allegedly by illegal immigrant drug runners. But every law-enforcement agency along the Arizona sector of the border says drug cartels normally don't target U.S. residents.
"This is a media-created event," Sheriff Clarence Dupnik of Pima County (Tucson) told the Arizona Republic newspaper. "I hear politicians on TV saying the border has gotten worse. Well, the fact of the matter is that the border has never been more secure."
That is one reason federal apprehensions of illegal immigrants are lower this year than they've been since the 1990s.
It's not merely politicians in Arizona who have tried to exploit a nonexistent link between violent crime and illegal immigration.
That alleged link became a major theme of the California Republican primary-election battle between Steve Poizner and Meg Whitman last spring. But there is no link, according to the latest research on the subject.
That research comes from University of Colorado sociology professor Tim Wadsworth, whose research on crime and immigration completely debunks the notion that more immigration necessarily equals more crime. Wadsworth, of course, would be the last to deny that some immigrants, illegal or not, are criminals and even violent criminals.
But here's what he reported in the April issue of Social Science Weekly:"Cities that experienced greater growth in immigrant or new-immigrant populations between 1990 and 2000 (Los Angeles, San Francisco, Fresno and San Diego were among those with the greatest rise in migrant populations) tended to demonstrate sharper decreases in homicide and robbery. The suggestion that high levels of immigration may have been partially responsible for the drop in crime during the 1990s seems plausible."
Wadsworth worked only with statistics from the 1990s, for which the numbers are complete. But the same cities that saw the most foreign immigration in that decade also were the leaders in the next 10 years, and in most of them, violent crime continued its downtrend.
Wadsworth didn't stop with just the big cities, though. He looked at 459 communities with populations of at least 50,000. He said distinguishing the effects of legal and illegal immigration is difficult, as the last two U.S. Census reports did not track those numbers. But he noted that immigrant citizens and noncitizens often congregate in the same areas for reasons of culture and language. He tracked robberies and homicides because they are harder to hide than other crimes.
Rather than causing crime waves, Wadsworth says, the numbers suggest "immigration may be partially responsible for the decrease in violent crime." His statistical analysis shows that growth in the new immigrant population led, on average among the 459 cities, to a 9.3 percent decline in the murder rate and a 22.2 percent decrease in robberies.
Wadsworth does not, however, expect his pioneering research to change political rhetoric. "The association between immigration and crime has been a center point of anti-immigrant discourse since the 1880s," he said. "Although there has been scant empirical research to support such claims, they have persisted with little debate."
Now there is some research. But politicians who exploit the supposed - and, it turns out - nonexistent link between increased crime and illegal immigration mostly likely won't change their tune. It's been too useful. Which means it will now be up to voters to see through the false rhetoric and act accordingly.
http://www.dailybreeze.com/ci_15517305kize you dont have any links to back up your claims and stats. you mostly spoke about education and this question is clearly about crime at the border.

moreVoting Question: Teen Dating Violence!!!?
WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON THE BEGINING OF MY ESSAY. I'M A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT TAKING COLLEGE CLASSES AT MY LOCAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE FOR EXTRA CREDITS AND I WANT TO KNOW IF YOU THINK IT'S GOOD. ( it won't let me indent sorry)
Raeanna was sitting quietly on her bedroom floor admiring the necklace her boyfriend just gave her. As she lifted it to the light and watched it glitter she also noticed the bruises in shape of fingers around her forearm. She gently placed the necklace back around her neck and reassured herself that he only grabbed her and simply didn’t realized his own strength. Teen dating violence is on the rise! If your boyfriend pushes you, but apologizes does it make it okay? If your girlfriend slaps you for looking at another girl, would you consider it abuse? Teen dating violence is across the board. It doesn’t discriminate against race, age, or gender. Both males and females fall victim, but are violent in many different ways. For instance, a female may yell, scream, slap or scratch her partner; a male may grab, shake, punch or push their mates. Teen dating violence is downplayed by society because it is viewed to be young love and not a serious crime. We can’t help but to want some answers from the youths. What makes teenagers stay in that kind of abuse? What are the warning signs from their partners? What are adolescents considering abuse or not? What can the parents do to help or notice this? Where and when do they draw the line and say “enough is enough”?
Raeanna pushed cautiously away from the cafeteria table and followed her boyfriend into the hallway. She was caught “looking at another boy” and he wanted to discuss this in private. She knew all too well what “discuss” meant. She would be making a trip to the store to buy yet another bottle of cover-up. One in three high school girls have been or are in an unhealthy relationship by the time they graduate. These statistics are dumbfounding but yet they are the stories pushed to the back of newspapers, overlooked, and ignored. The violence comes in many forms. The most common portrayed in media is physical. There are also emotional and verbal cases. One day he could just be complaining about the way she’s dressed. This to her could just mean he cares about her image and is trying to help. In actuality this is a warning sign. Thanks for the feedback. I now have 4 pages! I hope the teacher agrees

moreResolved Question: Paul Cameron: World's Biggest Idiot?
Dr. Paul Cameron, who is best known for his studies on homosexuality as well as being expelled from the APA, is probably the world's biggest idiot. His studies have reported such "facts" as:
-The average homosexual has 20-106 sexual partners ANNUALLY
-68% of mass murder victims were killed by homosexuals
-LITERALLY ALL homosexuals have oral sex (It's bad when one person disproves an entire statistic)
-90% of homosexuals regularly engage in anal sex
-92% regularly give their partner analingus
-70% regularly ingest feces
-41% regularly fist their partners
-Lesbians are 300 times more likely to die in a car crash than heterosexual women
-The average lifespan of a homosexual man is 43
You might wonder how his findings are so absurd. A few facts about Dr. Cameron
-Most of the above statistics were taken from a sample size of SIXTY-FIVE
-The rest were obtained by studying the obituaries of gay newspapers
-Cameron has been expelled from the APA citing an ethics violation
-Cameron has been disassociated by the NPA, CPA, and ASA, all citing misrepresentation and misinterpretation of data
-Cameron has publicly stated his intent is to prove homosexuals are (paraphrasing) unhealthy amoral bastards
-Cameron is head of the Family Research Institute, an organization which reeks so badly of socially conservative bias that you could smell it on the International Space Station
-If his samples are to be trusted, 88% of homosexual men have AIDS and there are 20 homosexual men to every lesbian
As such, any data he reports is tripe. Pure, unadulterated tripe. Does that stop people from using it? Hell no. This data was used in support of proposition 8, several socially conservative organizations believe it to be reliable, and I've seen this shit all over the internet.
QUESTIONS BELOW:
1) Is this data really as off as I think it is?
2) Why are humans stupid enough to trust this man?
3) Is Dr. Cameron or the choir he's preaching to more worrying?

My PSAT score was a 2000, so I assume it will be higher after studying for the real one.
I am in the Key Club, and I volunteer outside of that.
I will have taken the following courses:
Freshman: Honors English, Honors Social Studies, General Sciences, Geometry, P.E, Art 1, Spanish 1, Fundamentals of Technology, another computer class, and Life Issues (basically health)
Sophomore: Pre-AP Biology, Honors English, Spanish 2, Algebra 2, Health, Psychology, Newspaper
Junior: Honors Chemistry, AP Junior English, Pre-Calculus, Newspaper (as a section editor), Spanish 3, American Studies
Senior: AP Government, AP Literature, AP Statistics, AP Calculus, AP Chemistry, Newspaper (as a section editor)
I want to go into Forensic Chemistry, and hopefully at Penn State. Do I have a shot? Also any other good schools for Forensic Science, preferably with a chemistry emphasis?
Oh and I will have such a low GPA because during my freshman and sophomore year I missed way too much school due to illness.

moreVoting Question: Are sports scores and sports statistics "fair use"?
I'm considering starting a sports publishing business. In my publications, I will use, partly, previous scores and player statistics. Are player statistics and previous games scores copyrighted and I would have to pay a fee to Stats LLC to publish them? Or are they fair use?
What I would be doing would be equivalent to what the sports pages of newspapers offer.
Thanks!
moreResolved Question: Check out my schedule?
Okay, so I just graduated HS with a 3.94 GPA (with many honors and AP classes). I was dually enrolled at both the HS and at an extremely selective liberal arts college and took Early American Lit (EL 356) and New Testament (RE 202) there during my senior year, getting a B in both classes. I also took a speech class (SP 101) last summer at a less selective university and got an A.
Anyway, next year I am headed to college and am currently registered for a 19-credit load. My adviser said that it should be okay, that he doesn't necessarily recommend it, but that based on my history I should be able to handle it. My best friend, on the other hand, keeps telling me that I am not going to do very well academically. I think she's kidding, but it's freaking me out.
So, here's my schedule. Tell me what you think?
Women Writers (100 level) 3 credits
Writing II (200 level) 3 credits
Elementary Latin and Statistics (200 level) 3 credits
Writing for Mass Media (100 level) 3 credits
Freshman Seminar, 1 credit
Newspaper Staff, 1 credit
Latin I (100 level) 4 credits
Modern Dance, 1 credit
moreResolved Question: What are my chances of being accepted into these colleges?
Hi, I'm going to be a senior in high school next year, so I have to begin seriously considering which colleges I should apply to.
Can you please tell me what you think my chances are of being accepted to MIT, Princeton, Harvard, and other schools of equal caliber?
These are some of my stats:
GPA (unweighted): 4.0
Class Rank: 4 of 367
Honors courses already taken:
Geometry, Algebra II, Precalculus
Biology, Chemistry
English 9, English 10
AP courses already taken:
Calculus BC, Statistics
Physics B
Language and Composition
European History, US History, Psychology
Other courses I have taken:
Latin I-III
Latin IV & V through the University of Minnesota
AP/Advanced courses I'll be taking as a senior (since I've had only A's and A+'s for my entire education, I'm confident that I will continue to earn these grades next year as well):
Calculus III, Linear Algebra (at a local college)
Physics C, Biology
Literature and Composition
US Government and Politics, Micro Economics, Macro Economics
AP exam scores:
I received 5's in both European History and Statistics last year. This year I took Calcus BC, Physics B, Language and Composition, US History, and Psychology, and I'm very confident that I received 5's on those as well.
Standardized test scores:
SAT Reasoning: Composite 2240 (Critical Reading 790, Math 770, Writing 680 -- will retake)
SAT Subject: Math II 800, US History 760
ACT: Composite 34 (English 35, Math 35, Reading 35, Science 30 -- will retake)
Major extracurriculars:
Key Club for 3 years (over 200 service hours so far)
JV Swimming for 2 years
School newspaper for 2 years (first as a reporter, now as a page editor)
{I have many other activities that I did not list here}
I'm just a little concerned about getting into my top colleges because I know how rigorous their admission processes are. Thank you very much for your input!

In the uk...it's fine to walk around at night in central london..loads of people around as well as police. You don't feel like you will be robbed at any given moment. Yes, london has many bad areas where it wouldn't be safe but still.
I have read many stories on the News Of The World newspaper & the Sun website regarding stabbings etc. people randomly get stabbed..I mean I read it ALL the time. what is going on? is this the norm?
I am looking to live there and im quite scared now..I thought london was bad..but Melbourne seems like a lot of people get robbed and stabbed!
I have been reading here on answers..and people say the crime is bad. I though Melbourne was safe..yeah people say for the size of the population and the number of incidents it is safe...but not if you are one of the statistics.
Do you know someone who has been attacked...accosted..beaten up?
I like the nightlife of cities..clubs and bars etc...but if I'm in any peril it will put me off! I don't want to have to look over my shoulder every time I have left a place and walking down the street.
I have also heard...blue, red and green are all gang colours. So if I'm wearing a blue jacket or a red jacket...is someone going to mistake me for a gang member?! I am young...so I am in their demographic..but am certainly no gang member, lol.
What do you think? Is it safe? should I be scared?

moreVoting Question: Choosing Senior Year Classes?
I'm currently a junior in high school and I'm shooting for either UCF or UF. I know UF's standards are very high, which is why I have UCF as a back-up.
Here is what I've chosen for my upcoming senior year:
AP Studio Art
AP Psychology
AP Language/Composition
AP Government
AP Comparative Politics
(the past three AP classes are all in one package, meaning they are considered to be one period at my school)
Newspaper III
Student Aide
French IV
and... dun dun dun: AP Statistics
Here is my main problem: I REALLY do not want to take AP statistics. Math is NOT my strongest subject. I do not plan on pursuing a major related to sciences or mathematics. My mind and heart are geared more towards history, psychology, literature, the arts. The only other option is trigonometry/pre-calc, which I'm not too hot about either. BUT, my guidance counselor and math teacher both tell me not to skip a whole year of math, b/c I'll probably forget everything for the math class I would have to take in college for general ed. What should I do? I mean I could always get tutoring in college if I forget the skills, right? Why should I add such a load on me with all my other AP classes. And what's the point- I know I will not pass that stats exam.
SO: should I take AP stats? And if I should, how will it look like if I don't pass it?
Thanks in advance!

In a survey of 703 randomly selected workers, 15.93% got their jobs through newspaper ads. Test the claim that less than 20% of them got their current employment using the newspaper. Use a 0.05 significance level and support your findings with a confidence interval.
Complete the following problems using the P-Value method only for credit. Partial credit is given. Make sure each answer has the following parts: 1. Hypothesis statement in words and in symbols with original claim marked. 2. Data gathered together. 3. Determine type of test and list criteria that determined which test to use. 4. Decision criteria 5. Make your decision and form your conclusion. 6. Calculate your confidence interval. (If none mentioned use 0.05 level of significance). 7. Answer the question asked at the conclusion of the claim.
moreResolved Question: What is causing Latino population in Atlanta area to move out?
There are communities in the suburbs of Atlanta that are seeing sudden declines in the number of Latinos who live there. The newspaper cited figures ranging from church attendance to business closings and arrest statistics to come to their conclusion.
BUT IT SEEMS that many people in that area want to focus in on one aspect of the issue and make that the primary reason.
Is it the tougher crackdown by local law enforcement, where some sheriff’s departments now screen inmates for immigration status upon their arrival at the county jail (with the non-citizens turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement)?
Or is it the fact that the tougher economic times mean there just aren’t any jobs worth having in that area?
I’d argue the latter. It’s not like there’s some natural reason for Latinos to be in Georgia. I would expect many of the families that moved into the area did so out of a belief that Atlanta and its surrounding area was a boom-town of sorts and would provide them with work.
IF WORK DISAPPEARS, we’re going elsewhere.
But there are those who will argue the former. They’d say that the word is getting out that Latinos are leaving voluntarily before they get caught for something, which they’d argue is a good thing because they want to believe that Latinos really don’t belong there.
It is true that since local sheriffs have started their own immigration status screening, the number of inmates in the county jails who are not U.S. citizens has declined significantly. One local sheriff told the Atlanta newspaper that such a result is “the proper outcome.” He thinks he’s bringing the immigration issue under control.
moreResolved Question: I HATE my Accounting major, a college senior...am I stuck?
I'm a 20 year old college senior, and I'm having a fifth-life crisis. :-(
I majored in Accounting (but minored in Economics) purely because it was a "safe" major, and I thought (note the past tense) that I'd be capable of undertaking a career in accounting. But the more I progressed in my accounting courses, the more I found that I disliked them. I easily aced classes like economics, statistics, Russian (and I'm not Russian), calculus, physics, philosophy, etc... but I barely passed any of my accounting courses. I'm taking Intermediate Accounting for the 2nd time because I failed the first time (NEVER happened to me in my life), and I'm still not doing well.
Every time I walk in my accounting classes, I feel like I'm walking into a dental office for a root canal. I literally feel like throwing up. I cannot follow all the details I have to memorize, I have zero interest in the subject, and my dyslexia probably doesn't help...This nausea phenomenon NEVER happens in any of my other classes - I'm excited to be there.
Creative writing is where my talent and passions lie. All my university professors, high school teachers, people at work, friends, etc keep insisting that I have a "rare talent" for creative writing. I've even had a lot of work published in humorous magazines and newspapers. Everyone who's read my work urged me to major in writing. (Don't judge my skill based on this question, I'm definitely not trying to entertain!)
I majored in accounting because I thought it was practical. Realistic. To me, even bothering to make a career out of writing is a waste of time, because it's like acting or modeling - so few can actually make a living out of it. I LOVE writing. I lose myself in it. But the idea of doing it for a living is a fairy tale. Am I right? Should I force myself to stay on the track to an accounting career?
I don't know what to do, I completely regret majoring in accounting. I should've majored in Economics. =/

moreResolved Question: how many AP tests should i take in order to apply for an ivy leage school?
Im currently a freshman, and I wonder how many AP courses and tests should I take if I'd like to apply for an ivy leage school? I know I should take as many as I can, but the problem is that my school offers 19 AP courses, and Im not gotta take 5 of them for sure (language and 2 useless courses according to my preference of major). Additionally, I came from china last year, so it would be super hard for me to earn an A in AP english. Im thinking about not to take AP eng. at all, but does it actually look better when I have an A for college prep english class instead of a B in AP eng.?
Anyway here's my plan for next 3 yrs:
10th grade: AP biology & AP computer science (already the maximum amt)
11th grade: AP calculus AB, AP USH, AP physics B or C
12th grade: AP statistics, AP comparative govt & politics in 1st semester & AP U.S. govt & politics in 2nd, AP chemistry, AP japanese, AP art history (if i dont make yearbook or my school newspaper or anything like that)
So the total would be 10 or 11 out of 15 (not including the language classes that i wont be able to take), I'm not sure if it's enough since my school has 19 AP courses. Im interested in economics and phychology, so Im planning to take AP test for macroeconomics & microeconomics next year, and psychology in junior year. Would you suggest me to study by myself or find a tutor or sign up for the class somewhere? Do you think that it's the best way to make my app stronger? I wanna do this simply bacause I wont have credit for AP english.
Besides, if you have any suggestion for my choice of world language, I would seriously think abt it. Im gotta take SAT for Chinese this year to fulfill my high school's language requirement, and I'll do Japanese probably (or spanish). Does it matter that I didnt take any language class in 1st yr? I heard that ivy leage school ask you for the credit of language for 4 yrs. I hope that a high score for SAT Chinese would be useful.
Thanks for your help. I wrote a lot because I have no idea abt those stuff. Thank you for reading it again.

Read the 3 essays and would they be at least a grade of a C? What would you grade them. There all different even the first two.
Photojournalism is a career I am aiming to pursue. I would like to work at either a famous magazine company or do freelance and travel to different locations all over the world. My interest in photojournalism began in 7th grade when I discovered that I really enjoyed writing.. Later, I started to ponder journalism. Eventually, I became more interested in photography when my cousin let me borrow an old film camera,, and I began to use my family's Nikon. At that moment I decided that I would merge both my interests into one career, photojournalism. Being a photojournalist would require creativity, open-mindedness, and honesty. I decided that I could merge both into one, photojournalism.
To pursue a career as a photojournalist, requires having an artistic vision and the ability to communicate effectively with others. It also requires creativity, open-mindedness, and honesty. “Photojournalists may be self-trained or attend college for proper training,” from the (National Press Photographers Association). An associates, bachelors or master degree in digital photography, journalism, mass communication and visual communication are very helpful and would make me more marketable when applying for a position. I plan to obtain a bachelors degree and also apply for internships while in college to gain hands on experience.
Because of the increasing departure of newspapers and magazines, finding a decent job can be difficult. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that “there are many more Photojournalists than jobs available”. To prepare myself for this career, I should create an impressive portfolio of my best work while in college.
In conclusion, I decided on a career in photojournalism because of my interest in photography and journalism. I’m determined to work hard and meet the educational requirements to be successful whether I’m working for a magazine company or doing freelance. If I could become a great photojournalist, some of the places I would love to travel to include Italy, Canada, New Zealand, and Japan.

Photojournalists provide pictures for stories or news articles that are clear and truthful images corresponding with a topic. Photojournalism is a career for students willing to work hard and demonstrate a strong passion and creativity for their work. In this essay there will be a discussion on preparing for a career in photojournalism, job opportunities, and required qualifications.
Students pursuing a career in phojournalism should meet experts in the field.. Recently, I discovered a man named David Burnett. His work gave me a deeper interest in the profession. Burnett travels the world and takes superb photographs of Presidents, wars, and people from different countries at various locations. Meeting an expert in this profession may help students pursuing this career and also in understanding it much better and learning more.. Or at least focus on one and study their work very closely. Students should understand that it is very helpful to have a portfolio of their best work and have “excellent communication skills” (Marovich), Discovering someone who is passionate about photojournalism will help and inspire students in their career path.
Students can explore the world as a photojournalist and have others look at their extraordinary work. Photojournalists have many choices of jobs. Some work alone, others at magazines or newspapers, war areas, self-employment, natural disasters, weddings or even something like TMZ; who follow famous people and write about it.. The wages of a photojournalist varies depending on the type of job chosen. In some cases, the individual is underpaid but sometimes the wares are very high Most magazines pay well for photos that embellish a story and newspapers.
Students should get a degree in digital photography, journalism, mass communications, and visual communications, and remember to get excellent grades. “That’s where you learn to be a professional, not an amateur with a point-and-shoot or a cell phone.” (Zibluk) If anyone wants to do well in photojournalism, it is recommended he or she obtain an internship and meet their educational requirements.
Photojournalism is a career that is challenging but well worth pursuing if you have a passion for it. In this career, students should love what they’re doing and never give up. Enrolling in college courses and pursuing internships are excellent ways to gain hands on experience and develop the necessary skillset to be successful in this career.

moreResolved Question: how to write a conclusion for my essay? HELP!?
what barriers and inequalities exist that may hinder opportunities for students to achieve their full potential in schools?
In this essay I will be exploring some of the various aspects that effect a pupil’s education. From the obstacles pupils maybe faced with during their school years that may hinder how they well they achieve their ultimate goal and succeed later on in life. There are numerous barriers and inequalities that can hold some children back.
Although many teachers work hard to ensure against favouritism, this is not always possible, partly because of the stigma attached to social class. Some teachers may give exclusive opportunities to certain groups. Teachers may also wrongly anticipate the knowledge or potential of specific classes of children. For example, children from high-class families are sometimes viewed as being more intelligent than those from lower social classes. Recent statistics from different sources show that higher numbers of children from wealthier backgrounds achieve higher, academically compared to children from much poorer backgrounds, for example private school verses state schools. In the table below lists the percentages of pupils in the northwest gaining five or more grade A*- C at GCSE, there is one example from a private school and two from state schools.
Tuesday 8th April 2008 GCSE Results.
(table)
•T.C: Tower College is a local private school.
•W.D: Wade Deacon is a local state school.
•F.H: Fairfield High school is a local state school.
From information in the table above (Times online newspaper:2010), you would get the impression that upper-class children are more intelligent but In fact, studies have shown, lower-class children do not have lower IQ scores than upper-class children as previously suspected. This means there must be a weakness in the system somewhere because a greater number of more high social class children are going on to college and getting jobs with advanced potential while lower-class children are in positions without hope of advancement. The lack of money in lower social classes may contribute to the problem, but the presence of social class in the educational system may also contribute as well. Thus it is vital to study how the effects of social class are entering into classrooms and helping to determine the future of children. The teacher student relationship is very important for children. With “positive reinforcement” pupils often exceed their expected ability but when a relationship is between the pupil and teacher is negative a pupil may become dis-engaged, become disruptive, which then may cause them to under-achieve. A crucial factor in this argument is a child can also be “Labelled” as a result of this. Unfortunately, because many teachers rely on previous evaluations from other teachers as a way to evaluate incoming students (Harris, 1991), these labels inevitably follow the student throughout their academic career, making it difficult, if not impossible, for those labelled as poor to ever reach their true, academic potential.
Disabilities are a factor in schools; about four per cent of the population have severe dyslexia, while a further six per cent experience mild to moderate problems. In school a children with “Dyslexia” have problems with reading and spelling, putting letters and figures the wrong way round, are slower at writing and have low concentration levels. These problems persevere throughout school which can erode their self-esteem. Dyslexia often goes undetected in schools. Poverty level is a factor in determining if a child has dyslexia. Often the schools do not have the resources to tell if a child is dyslexic and the child usually is grouped as someone with a general learning disorder. Regrettably, Children are not routinely screened for dyslexia due the cost. By screening all children, who are having problems reading for dyslexia would detect these often-undiagnosed children. The signs of dyslexia are not always as telltale as one might think. Those children that the teacher thinks are just not bright maybe brilliant but with no way to show it.
In the study “The Home and the School” J.W.B Douglas (2001:832) emphasised the degree of parental interest in a Childs education is an important factor, in general, middle-class parents expressed greater interest, as indicated by frequent visits to the school to check on the their child’s progress and where more likely to encourage their children to go into higher education. Douglas also emphasised the impact to the Childs early years since, in many cases, performance during the first years of schooling is reflected throughout the secondary school. Douglas concluded, “We attribute many of the major differences in performance to environmental influences acting in pre-school years.”
Parental support and enthusiasm without a doubt benefits the child’s education. Home life plays a huge part in a child’s learning. Children from low-income families have a
