Resolved Question: a question about double majoring?

i am going to be a high school senior in just two weeks.. ive decided i want to major in communications/rhetoric but i also want to major in marketing. is this possible? ive gotten both yes and no. but i could use a solid opinion. ive heard of "marketing communications" but the only college i know of that has that is Emerson. Do you know any colleges other than Emerson that offer marketing communications? Because I think that'd be perfect for me. What I am interested in doing is strategic marketing. Which is kinda what marketing communications is all about. I would love to go to Emerson but i feel like i'm not good enough. heres my grades in high school: Freshman year: Chinese: A+ Physical Science: A World History: B English Honors: C+ Geometry: B Graphic Arts: B+ Gym: F (i think it was because i didn't do swimming..) i can't remember the seventh credit class.. Sophmore year: English Pre-AP: B+ Algebra 2: C+ Biology: B+ US History Pre-AP: B Web Page Design: A Gym: A Foundation of Art: A Chinese 2: B Junior Year: Chinese 3: C+ English 11 AP: A US History 2 Pre-AP: B Chemistry Pre-AP: C+ Chemistry Lab Pre-AP: B+ Pre-Calculus: B+ Gym: A AP Research Lab: A Health: A My Senior schedule looks like this AP English 12 AP Statistics AP World History Sociology Journalism AP Research Lab Gym Ceramics On my SAT I only got a 1540 :( With math being my lowest and Writing my highest. On the essay I got an 8. I plan on retaking them along with taking the ACT and SAT Subject Test. Ill also write a kick ass essay for my application ;) I've been in my schools keyclub for three years and I also go on alot of cancer walk/heart walks. I played volleyball as a junior. I think instead of volleyball this year I might do tech for my school play. I started a prom committee in my school last year which I will be returning to this year. I will be joining NHS this year too as well as HHS (History Honor Society). I may do AHS (Art Honor Society) just so I can stack it on. I will also be class representative this year! I'm sure there are other things I have done that just aren't coming to mind. So do you think i've got a shot at this school? Answers are greatly appreciated. more

Resolved Question: Will the government privatise these part two (long and detailed)?

I asked a while ago about whether the government will privatise certain assets I mentioned, I have now expanded this list in response to the criticisms. Again, I offer no opinion as to whether I think it would be good. I am asking whether a) it would be good? and b) the likelyhood of any of this happening? Firstly, not everything listed can be privatised so I have offered other options: selling shares, reducing subsidies, commercialising the roles of, outsourcing the roles of and assets to be sold off. Privatisation: a state-owned corporation being sold into the private sector. Selling shares: The government does not control but has shares in. Commercialising the roles of: these are companies or agencies that can expand the services they offer into the private sector or offer abroad, they will not be able to make a profit and therefore should not be privatised but could bring in some money to ofset some of their running costs. Outsourcing the roles of: Services or utilities that could be privatised, but should NOT as they offer non-monetary benefits by being universal rather than for-profit. However, there are ways in which their services can be offered by companies but the state picks up the tab. Assets: Physical A # next to the item indicates that it may be politically volatile to do it so it will probably never happen. It's a long list, so if you can't be bothered to read it all just give your general opinion. Voting Question: can anyone help w/ fixing my grammar? im a international student...?

Please help... im a international student. Hewlett-Packard Company is known as world’s largest maker of personal computers and also one of the world's largest information technology companies operates in nearly every country. William R. Hewlett and David Packard found this company in 1939. HP’s Major product lines include personal computing devices, enterprise servers, related storage devices, as well as a diverse range of printers and other imaging products. They are targeting in variety of fields; households, small to medium sized businesses and as well as online distribution, consumer-electronics and office-supply retailers, software partners and major technology vendors. As a world’s largest information technology company, there are still few problems that company is facing. Few of the problems that HP is facing are drop in sales, decline in imaging and printing group avenue, and decline in software revenue. One of the major problem that HP is facing is that drop in sales. HP saw its sales dropped 19 percent to $8.19 billion: PCs, Printers, Servers, and Software. There are some possible reasons why the sale has declined due to possible economic crisis, quality of products, trend of new technologies, and other competitors in the market. By looking at an evidence of constant drops of HP’s sales, there are some possibilities that HP’s sales wouldn’t improve in anytime soon. At this point, serious action must be taken to solve this problem. There are many ways to solve the issues starting from switching the locations/territories, and plan a better advertisement/marketing strategy. But my recommendation to this solution is to improve products and sales by managing the relationship between development and sales team, and catch up with the new trend of the technologies and hit the market with the new product that has same benefit, much more convenient, and more affective compared to PC products. To support my thought of recommendation, besides looking at the formal graph of statistics, we can easily find the mobile phone that has same function as computer. According to Forrester Researcher Report, they have researched and has clearly announced with their back up evidence that PC sales will continue to decline, much as they have for the past several years. Just by planning or making a first step into this industry will have a huge impact of HP’s future. more

Resolved Question: Feminists, why does ze patriarchy conspire to pay women at the top in business more than their male equals?

or is it more likely your organisation is conspiring to mislead you about the nature of reality for their own ends. A Carnegie Mellon University study has concluded that women executives out-earn their male counterparts. The study, which examined 16,000 executives over 14 years, found that women at the top of the business world bring in a bit more than men and are promoted at the same rate, countering the popular notion that women earn less than men for the same work. "That common perception is not borne out by this study," said Robert A. Miller, professor of economics and strategy and one of the authors. "If you're looking for evidence of gender discrimination in executive promotion and compensation, it's not happening there." The study, "Are There Glass Ceilings for Female Executives?," was released last month by Carnegie Mellon's Tepper School of Business but hasn't been published yet. The largest empirical analysis of the top echelons of publicly traded companies determined that women earned about $100,000 more per year than men of the same age, educational background and experience. Unlike some studies that have relied on aggregate statistics to indicate a gender pay gap, this one took multiple variables into account. "Once you control for the position that they're in, that is, their rank, and you control for experience and control for their education, background and turnover, once you do that you find that they earn a little more," said Dr. Miller. The paper does not address why women make more and not the same as men, although one possibility is that women who rise to the top of corporations have some innate qualities that haven't been -- and maybe can't be -- quantified. Female executives on the whole still earn less than male executives, but that's because more women quit before they reach the top, the study says. "At any given level of the career hierarchy, women are paid slightly more than men with the same background, have slightly less income uncertainty and are promoted as quickly," it concludes. "We concluded that the gender pay gap and differences in job rank in this most lucrative occupation is explained by females leaving the market at higher rates than males." Why they quit is harder to explain. Younger women opt out of the work force to have babies, but the average age for executives in the study was 53, beyond the child-bearing years. Yet female executives still retire earlier than men and are more likely to switch careers. The CMU paper offers some possible reasons, including "more unpleasantries, indignities and tougher, unrewarding assignments" at work. The authors also suggest that women over time acquire "more nonmarket human capital" than men -- meaning connections outside the workplace -- that make retirement more attractive. "They're definitely leaving and we don't know why," said Dr. Miller. "That's the variable." He and the other researchers, George-Levi Gayle and Limor Golan, both assistant professors of economics, hope to address that issue in the future by controlling for the rate of retirement. "That is the piece that we want to write next," he said. The study didn't initially seek to analyze gender inequity but rather to look at the role of "human capital" -- skills and knowledge -- in determining promotions at corporations. "But this sort of jumped out and hit us in the face," said Dr. Miller. Some studies had indicated female executives were paid the same as men, but those didn't address the rate of promotion as this one does, he said. More recent studies reached similar conclusions. A report released last month by The Corporate Library, a research firm in Maine, said women corporate directors earn 15 percent more than male counterparts, although they are still outnumbered 8-1 by men on boards. The CMU study compiled data representing 60 different job titles at more than 1,800 companies between 1992 and 2006. In addition to examining promotion rates, the researchers also analyzed total compensation, including benefits, bonuses, retirement packages and stock options in addition to salary. Overall, the study concluded that job turnover and tenure are better indicators of compensation than gender. Resolved Question: why have I not heard from the employer after i sent transcripts? don't I have the right to know if they reject?

I graduated with bachelor of science in mathematics in May 2008 and I applied for an entry level position in an information technology company which required BS in math or computer science. The job description emphasized that no work experience is necessary and that the applicant must have bachelor degree in math or CS to get any consideration. A recruiter from that company contacted me on phone and took a 30 minute interview. He seemed very interested and said that I should relocate for the job. I agreed to relocate. The recruiter said that my salary would be considered based on GPA and experience. I told the recruiter on phone interview that my GPA is not that high. He said the degree is main thing and that even if low GPA is there, its still not a direct disqualification from job. I told the recruiter I have 2.3 cumulative GPA, but that I had several A grades in various math courses like calculus, statistics, computer science, applied math, operations research, etc etc. The recruiter seemed please and it sounded I would get the position. He said a salary of $33,280 an year would be offered as start due to GPA and no professional work experience, if hired. He then said that he wants me to email him the transcript and that they will call me for second interview in the office. He assured me low GPA isn't direct disqualification and they will still strongly consider me for position. I emailed the transcripts to the recruiter but never heard back after that. . The recruiter specifically said low GPA is not disqualification and that initial salary will be $33,280 an year. I checked the market value of starting pay for BS in Math and it is $46,000 an year. Anyhow, why didn't I ever hear back? What to do now? At least common courtesy tells that an employer should respond with a letter saying, "we found better candidate". Where are those days gone? Voting Question: What are some statistics for website marketing?

I currently do sales for a high end web designer and I am looking for statistics on how having a high end custom website as well as a higher ranking (according to alexa) can improve someones business. The basic questions I need answered are: How does having a high end website affect a businesses marketing plan? What are some statistics of the increased traffic that businesses with high end websites generate vs. businesses with lower end template websites? What are some stats on increased leads and sales that are produced through websites and web marketing? What are some stats on how many businesses are upgrading to higher end custom websites and how it has affected their business? You can see where I'm going with these questions. What I'm most interested in is books and websites that outline online marketing statistics. I've been doing my own research, come across a couple of websites, but haven't found what I'm really looking for yet. Any help is greatly appreciated :) more

Resolved Question: United States of America v. Arizona, who will win?

We need Immigration Reform, not idiotic laws like SB1070 that does nothing for our border security. This law was either brought up just to get more Republican votes or its just plain discrimination and ignorance. There is no need for this law, they have been using nothing but lies and twisted statistics to shove that bill through. Backers of the bill maintain that crime is a key reason for the necessity of the tough immigration law. Yet, a look at statistics from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency and the FBI indicate that both the number of illegal crosses and violent crime in general have actually decreased in the past several years. According to FBI statistics, violent crimes reported in Arizona dropped by nearly 1,500 reported incidents between 2005 and 2008. Reported property crimes also fell, from about 287,000 reported incidents to 279,000 in the same period. These decreases are accentuated by the fact that Arizona's population grew by 600,000 between 2005 and 2008. Proponents of the bill overlook two salient points: Crime rates have already been falling in Arizona for years despite the presence of unauthorized immigrants, and a century's worth of research has demonstrated that immigrants are less likely to commit crimes or be behind bars than the native-born. And the truth is, illegals contribute significantly to the U.S. Economy. They claim that illegals cost more then they put in is totally false. Immigrants Pay More In Taxes Than They Use In Services Over Their Lifetimes: Depending on skills and level of education, each immigrant pays, on average, between $20,000 and $80,000 more in taxes than he or she consumes in public benefits. They pay BILLIONS in taxes, and many don't claim taxes. Those taxes help many things like Social Security, Medicare, local schools and even road maintenance. Their hard work and determination helps U.S. companies and farms stay competitive in today's fierce market. They work very hard and for low wages, and this help companies make record breaking profits, and that allows them to keep their prices low. U.S. farms will not operate without illegal immigrant workers, and that means more farms will shut down or move to Mexico where the workers are without immigration issues. They pump BILLIONS into our economy as consumers. Illegals are just like you and I, they buy houses, cars, cloths, food, electronics, music and the list goes on and on. Hispanic illegals are part of the Hispanic Purchasing Power in America that's expected to reach $1TRILLION by 2011. Illegal Immigrants have been found to be a GOOD mortgage risk. Even with these bad times, they are able to find a way to pay their monthly payment, but at the same time we are adding more of these homes to the foreclosure list by deporting them. THE USA WILL SUFFER WITHOUT ILLEGALS, BELIEVE OR NOT!THE COST OF DEPORTING ALL ILLEGALS IS HIGHER THEN ANYONE CAN IMAGINE, LETS BRING IN THE AMNESTY PEOPLE.THE TRUTH HURTS.http://www.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/04/29/arizona.immigration.crime/index.html?hpt=T2 http://www.aollatinoblog.com/2008/04/14/do-immigrants-pay-their-fair-share-of-taxes-you-bet-they-do/ http://www.azcentral.com/business/articles/2008/04/10/20080410biz-TaxingImmigrants-10.html http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/04/world/americas/04iht-export.4.7380436.html?_r=1&adxnnl=1&adxnnlx=1278514864-svORprT6WV4MeQLrAAYLYA http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/10/01/hispanics.economy/index.html?eref=ib_topstories http://www.oliverwillis.com/2007/10/11/illegal-immigrants-turn-out-to-be-good-mortgage-risks/ http://wildcat.arizona.edu/2.2255/dollars-and-sense-economy-native-workers-benefit-from-immigrant-work-1.172574 more

Resolved Question: Guyss, HELLPPP PLEASEE!!! I need to paraphrase this passage 4 my final project?? plz take a look?

please guys i need a paraphrase not a summery.... The Danish cartoon crisis was about a media publication and its development and consequences would be unthinkable without media coverage and mediated communication. Media communication was and is probably the most important aspect of the crisis: It all started with the Danish media debate about Islam-critical self-censorship and the publication of the cartoons in Jyllands-Posten. It continued with the reprint of the cartoons in other media and media reports about the protests against the cartoons. It continued further with mediated statements from many governments, organizations, and individuals issuing their stance on the cartoons or the protests. Both the boycott of Danish products in the Middle East and the ‘Buy Danish’-campaigns in Western countries relied heavily on mediated communication – both mass media reports and the use of digital media, such as sms, the internet and cell phones. (Roy Langer, paths to discourage analysis of a sensitive research topic: The case of the Danish cartoon crisis) This study looks at the extensive coverage of the Danish cartoon controversy on the web pages of the two leading Arabic satellite TV stations, al-Arabiya and al-Jazeera, to examine the reemerging thesis of "clash of civilizations" and rising anti Americanism on Arabic media. The analysis identifies "transgression" as an overarching frame, but finds less support for a dominant "clash of civilizations" frame in Arab media. The media coverage appears to "legitimize" Muslims’ reactions to the publication of Prophet Muhammad cartoons, without abetting the "clash" thesis as some have proposed. (Aziz Douai, Tales of Transgression of clashing paradigms: The Danish cartoon controversy and Arab Media, spring, 2007) Many of Australia’s 281,578 Muslims — 1.5 per cent of the total population (Australian Bureau of Statistics) — believe that as a result of media bias, they are vilified in society as “terrorists”, and discriminated in the workplace (Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission; Dreher 13; Kabir 266-277). The ABS figures support their claim of discrimination in the workplace; in 1996 the unemployment rate for Muslim Australians was 25 per cent, compared to 9 per cent for the national total. In 2001, it was reduced to 18.5 per cent, compared to 6.8 per cent for the national total, but the ratio of underprivileged positions in the labour market remained almost three times higher than for the wider community. Instead of reflecting on Muslims’ labour market issues or highlighting the social issues confronting Muslims since 9/11, some Australian media, in the name of “free speech”, reinforce negative perceptions of Muslims through images, cartoons and headlines. (No author, Depiction of Muslims in selected Australian Media (Free speech or taking sides) My dead line is tomorrow morning and it's already 3:00 am and i'm dying here, any help would be great.. i'll appreciate it. Resolved Question: Is Business a good major?

I'm a senior in High School. Current major: Biology. Considering a change, due to the fact... I find Biology boring and Chemistry which is necessary when choosing Bio as your major. I HATE Chemistry. I'm not into it all. I think continuing my Bio choice is a bad decision, because I won't be into it at all. My other two choices are Psychology and Business, however I decided Psy. isn't good for me. I was thinking Marketing with a minor in Psychology. Is that a good mix? Her's more about me. I LOVE to travel, I love to talk and during my free time.. I research a Company's statistics. I enjoy the "Microsoft vs Apple" stuff. I always look at their products and compare them. It's what I DO for fun. I think it would be AWESOME to have to get paid for something I love. I also enjoy wearing a suit :P Details on how to get into a top Business School like Wharton or Harvard will be appreciated as well. Thanks! more

Resolved Question: give me my chances to get into harvard?

Aite heres the thing. I'm tripping balls about harvard, and it comes out in 3 days. I just want to know what to expect. Heres my resume: - 3.5 GPA - this is ridiculously low compared to Harvard standards. I just went to a school which doesn't inflate GPA at ALL- teachers can only give a certain number of A's, etc. - 2260 SAT, 34 ACT - DECA competition, international winner in Internet marketing plan. Plus a bunch of trophies and medals and etc. - volunteering, just the standard stuff- nothing too special. - a lot of research projects which won at science fairs (sites.google.com/site/keshavsaharia/research) - interview went awesome possum - really good essays - I was at harvard over the summer for their 7 week summer program, and I got to know a really great professor. However, I didn't ask him for a recommendation, which I now realize was stupid. - I play two instruments, speak 3 languages, have eaten over 100 different types of cereal. any reassuring words? To put it in a sentence, my statistics (GPA/SAT) are way too low to be competitive at Harvard. But my extracurriculars and interview are really really good. But as the old adage from the Incredibles goes, "in a world where everyone is super, nobody is." Harvard applicants seem like super people, so I'm not really sure what gives me the ability to compete with that. Can anyone give their prediction on my chance of getting in? more

Voting Question: APA formatting? Please check this for me?

Everyone at some time or another wants to achieve his or her lifelong dream. My lifelong dream is to become an actor. Becoming an actor is not easy to do. To begin pursuing the acting profession, three challenges need to be accomplished. The first of these challenges is to realize that it may take many years to become successful in this profession and not to become discouraged. The second challenge is to learn some acting skills before seeking representation from an agent. And, the third challenge is to prepare an effective resume and headshot package that will attract an agent and a future job. People interested in acting want to be selected for a great part right away. They want to be discovered and placed in a television show or a film. Being discovered does not happen often. Obtaining a job as an actor is very competitive, as many people want to become actors. Acting is a profession that people seem to crave. Actors have an opportunity to perform in all entertainment venues. They portray a variety of characters and even do research for roles that are complex (“Occupational Outlook”). People must realize that “actors endure long periods of unemployment, intense competition for roles, and frequent rejections in audition” (“Occupational Outlook”). After realizing that becoming an actor may take some time, people should become prepared to audition for casting directors so that they are as effective as possible when an audition comes up. To obtain an audition for a part, an actor needs agency representation. Most agents require that people have acting or educational experiences before representing them. The potential actor needs to realize that obtaining education is key to his or her success. The actor should consider completing a program at a conservatory or university, as formal training is helpful in preparing for an audition (“Occupational Outlook”). Learning how to evaluate potential education programs to insure that they best suit your interests is important. When deciding on an acting school, the actor should do research to be sure that the school has good statistics regarding its graduates (“The Ins and Outs” page 2). Jim Wilhelm, a New York agent, says that actors need conservatory training. Walker includes a quote from Wilhelm: “Why mall shop when you can boutique shop?” (6). Walker states that Wilhelm further says that the agent helps the actor obtain the audition, but the actor needs a good package to obtain the job (page7). Actors can pursue a variety of study programs. Examples of just a few programs are Acting for the Stage, Cold Reading, Audition Techniques, and Soap Opera Acting (“The Many Types” 7-12). Some actors might start in commercials. Specific training courses focus on how to audition for commercials. Kerr lists several courses offered in the Los Angeles area for learning how to audition for commercials (pages 240-241). The training and work experience that actors obtain will become part of their resume as will their headshot. Kerr includes a quote by Cathy Henderson, “ A good picture is your first priority. Good pictures are extraordinarily important” (page 274). Wolfe, a Casting Director/Consultant suggests interviewing and seeing the work of many headshot photographers before hiring one. He states, “If the agent does not like the photos, he will not send them out!” (Wolfe “How to Get” page 23). It is really important to find the best photographer for your acting goals. Wolfe also states that the resume is very important, as it shows your accomplishments (“How to Get” page 23). Once people have overcome the idea that it will take a while to find acting jobs, have obtained educational experiences, and have created a good resume and headshot package, it is time to find an agent. After obtaining representation, people are ready to find casting directors that are offering auditions. Wolfe suggests a “magical marketing tip” (“A Magical” 13). He provides a step-by-step process for writing a letter to a specific director, in hopes of getting an audition. The letter is very “you” oriented (to the director). “Be very specific about his work. Use the film you study and refer to a specific scene and the emotion he got out of the actors. By mentioning the name of the film he directed and the scene you liked most you have given him a compliment that proves that you saw his work. By mentioning the scene that moved you the most he knows that your compliment comes from your really seeing his work and remembering a special moment in the film. Hence you have found a director’s moment” (Wolfe, “A Magical” page 15). In obtaining a job, another tip that Wolfe suggests is to do some marketing on the internet. “After many months and hundreds of hours of research, I believe the Internet to be one of the most exciting new ways an actor can be seen by those who make the final decisions” (Wolfe, “Marketing Yourself” page 37). The internet provides a casual, efficient way of di more

Resolved Question: How should you market to non-traditional students?

The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) acknowledges there is no precise definition for non-traditional student, but suggests that part-time status and age are common elements in most definitions. In a 1996 study the NCES included anyone who satisfies at least one of the following as a non-traditional student[1]: Delays enrollment (does not enter postsecondary education in the same calendar year that he or she finished high school); Attends part time for at least part of the academic year; Works full time (35 hours or more per week) while enrolled; Is considered financially independent for purposes of determining eligibility for financial aid; Has dependents other than a spouse (usually children, but sometimes others); Is a single parent (either not married or married but separated and has dependents); or Does not have a high school diploma (completed high school with a GED or other high school completion certificate or did not finish high school). My question is: Based on the above information and perhaps your own knowledge, how do you suggest a typically tradtional 4-year University not known for adult students, go about marketing to non-traditional students? Any ideas? Thoughts? Websites? Research? Articles? All would be appreciated! more

Resolved Question: I want to work in a bank ... PLEASE help me?

My weakness: I don't have a statistics base and will never ever want to work more than 50 hours a week. Have to raise children too :) Please don't suggest CFA. Resolved Question: Are the government unemployment numbers for November correct?

See Trim Tab's analysis before commenting "TrimTabs: The Real Job Loss Number Was 255,000" http://www.businessinsider.com/trimtabs-the-real-job-loss-number-was-255000-2009-12 Excerpts: "Just about every time the monthly jobs numbers comes out, economic research firm TrimTabs comes out and slams the government's methodology, usually honing in on the Birth/Death model of new businesses entering the market. This week is no exception." and "TrimTabs employment analysis, which uses real-time daily income tax deposits from all U.S. taxpayers to compute employment growth, estimated that the U.S. economy shed 255,000 jobs in November. This past month’s results were an improvement of only 10.2% from the 284,000 jobs lost in October. Meanwhile, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that the U.S. economy lost an astonishingly better than expected 11,000 jobs in November. In addition, the BLS revised their September and October results down a whopping 203,000 jobs, resulting in a 45% improvement over their preliminary results. Something is not right in Kansas! Either the BLS results are wrong, our results are in error, or the truth lies somewhere in the middle We believe the BLS is grossly underestimating current job losses due to their flawed survey methodology. Those flaws include rigid seasonal adjustments, a mysterious birth/death adjustment, and the fact that only 40% to 60% of the BLS survey is complete by the time of the first release and subject to revision. " If the numbers were fudged, then why? Was it a mistake or is there a deliberate attempt to pacify us?. or, worse, are the numbers skewed to give the Fed "justification" to raise interest rates? See this Bloomberg article out today discussing that possibility. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=asuTKrJrCCVA&pos=5 more

Resolved Question: Why not legalize ghb?

it's such an amazing drug. I've been researching it and it's like a miracle drug. Virtually no harmful side effects.. it's been used in a general anesthetic a treatment for insomnia (sleeplessness) and narcolepsy (a daytime sleeping disorder) an aid to childbirth (it enhances cervical dilation) a treatment for alcoholism and drug abuse (it eases the withdrawal syndrome) an anti-anxiety, anti-stress, and anti-depressant agent Unlike alcohol too, when you go to sleep from it, you get a great more restful sleep than normal. You sleep more deeply in stages 1,2,3, 4 and rem sleep. Which makes it better for staying healthy and it even gives an increased amount of muscle growth. Pretty much it is very similar to alcohol but doesn't damage organs or the brain. and doesn't leave you with a nasty hangover the next day. Fda argues that it's used as a "date rape drug" but in reality Centuries of experience have confirmed that the date-rape drug of choice is alcohol ("candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker."). Current statistics from the U.S. Justice Department confirm that 70% of "acquaintance rape" or "date rape" involves the use of alcohol. Although GHB has been available for decades, only recently have there been reports of its use in date rape. Regardless of GHB's status, consumer education about date rape is needed. It is unreasonable to assume that scheduling will eliminate GHB use by criminally inclined individuals any more than alcohol prohibition during the 1920s eliminated alcohol's use for such purposes. If they would just provide education on date rape they could market this drug as a better alternative to alcohol and tax it. Also, to make it harder to slip into an unsuspecting victims drink they could make a law so that all ghb must made with some type of distinct bitter taste and color so it would be very difficult to get away with.those saying that it's dangerous and you stated that your friend went into a coma... that's only because she must have combined it with alcohol which is something you should never do. And most everyone else's answers didn't make sense. If you're going to tell me I'm wrong... then at least research it and KNOW that I'm wrong. Instead of making up some scenario and try to show how it's "dangerous" more

Resolved Question: Why do I read so many people referring to a large sector of the voting population as one ...?

a monolithic group called "liberals"? Let's say that you are one of those people who is always accusing others of being a "liberal". Don't you think that you might be reducing the debate of what are fairly complicated issues down to oversimplifications and turning everything into a name calling contest? Stay with me here... Let's say that you really believe that the government only stifles growth in an otherwise efficient free market economy, though taxes and bad fiscal policy. Or, maybe that giving people things only teaches people how to take handouts and not to provide for themselves. Perhaps you believe that giving people a convenient way out of making bad choices (like abortion) only helps people make more bad choices. Why not debate these issues? Explain why you believe what you believe. Research the numbers and the facts. Why not do all of that stuff and leave the name calling at the door. Because when you throw out a label, the person you are trying to convince will probably dismiss your arguments since you appear to be using catch phrases, trite stereotypes, and generalization instead of statistics, studies and facts. Just a question.Alex C: I do see many use terms like conservative, Republican, right winger, etc. I just tend to see the word "liberal" thrown out there the most. more

Resolved Question: Do I qualify for a small business loan?

I need a relatively small business loan, (40K) to cover intial operating expenses for my seed-stage business. Here's what I do have: Over 10 years hands-on experience in my field, extensive business / marketing "knowledge", intelligence, passion and enthusiasm, a solid business plan and statistics / research for the past 2 years proving how and why my business will be successful. However, I lack formal education, management experience and experience running my own business. In addition, I have a horrible credit rating, about 15K in personal debt and no collaterral. We've all heard that investments are made to the people, not the business. On paper, I as a person look like a big risk, but my business is a million dollar idea. (I know that's what everyone says, but my pro-forma income projections have me generating roughly 5 million dollars profit annually in just 3 years...and those are very feasible estimations) I have done extensive reading and learning about effective business operation and how to be successful, but don't have a piece of paper from a University or College. (I've never let my education interfere with my schooling as Twain said) I'm quite confident that a bank would laugh me right out of their office, but would a private investor or other organizations be able to "see the forest through the trees" so to speak or would the focus be on my credit, lack of formal education etc.? The only thing I'm not interested in is any venture capital firms. Sure they would help me now, but in three years they'd be helping themselves to my profits...but any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am located in Canada, so anyone with a Canadian perspective or resource would be beneficial, but will take input from anyone in the world that can provide some insight. more

Resolved Question: Question about a career in marketing?

Hi, I know a lot of people say that marketing is a pointless major and how many people have a hard time finding a job, so I was wondering, if I combine it with something like finance, econ, or accounting, as well as taking some upper level probability/statistics classes to show quantitative competancy, is it still a bad career/degree to pursue? I'm mostly interested in consulting, brand management, or market research, but I also want to be successful monetarily, which marketing isn't known for. So how are these fields in terms of salary, demand, etc? Secondly, which would be a better double major for marketing: finance, accounting, or economics? The way I see it, finance is just good to have as a backup degree (since I don't exactly go to Wharton, Haas, etc.), accounting helps you understand business as a whole/cashflows, and economics I think would be really helpful for marketing. Game Theory, understanding supply/demand curves/consumer needs, the statistics involved in econometrics could all be useful. However, I hear that economics majors also have problems finding jobs at the undergraduate level unless it's from an elite school. So I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions on this front as well thanks more

Resolved Question: Why do I feel this way?

Maybe it's all psychological... I'm an 18-year-old high school student and i'm struggling to graduate because of this. Ever since I got my acceptance letter to university i've changed. I stopped doing everything. I feel as if everything i've ever worked for up until this point was for that letter, but I know that that's not how it works. I need to keep trying so I can safeguard my acceptance. I always feel tired no matter what. Even if I get a full night's sleep I feel as if i'm going to pass out in the hallway. One time I kind of did. My vision turned blotchy and white and I stumbled into a trashcan. When i'm not tired I feel queasy. As if somebody is ripping through my intestines with a bayonette (sorry for the description... that's just how I imagine it). Then I have to excuse myself from class. When neither of these things are happening, I simply don't do anything. I actually plan ahead by bringing Sudoku puzzles or anything to keep my mind off my school work. Then I fall behind and get anxious about graduation. I'm currently failing my AP statistics class which I simply don't care about since it's not required for me to graduate. Other than that, I didn't turn in my English IV research paper, or my Government project, or my stock market project for Economics. When I go home I do nothing but play videogames and waste more time. My parents don't even notice my recent change. I didn't used to be like this. I was a great student. I competed nationally in JROTC, studied very hard, and kept a tidy bedroom. I guess the number one presumption will be "senioritus", but if it is then I have the worst case in history. I have gone as far as to skip my classes just so I can get in-school-suspension where i'll be so bored that i'll WANT to do my work. Isn't that pathetic? I have no energy and have stopped caring about how I look. When my friends are feeling down I no longer want to be their pillar. When in the face of drama or hardship I do nothing but avoid. more
