Resolved Question: I need some ideas for advertising my business. Any suggestions?

Hi everyone, I run a few small internet businesses and, now I have 3 months from studying, would really love to make the most of my time and get some serious advertising done; something I haven't had time to do due to my studies. Only problem is I have no idea where to start, at the moment I am on social network websites and one of my business is about video tutorials so is on YouTube. I really need some more ways of advertising my businesses!! I can print flyers, leaflets, business cards but I would be interested in some 'free' or cheaper ways of advertising. I don't mind if it involves me giving up a whole day doing it. Thanks everyone!! Becky xx more

Resolved Question: Job offer through school email...too good to be true? or real?

I got this email, and a few others, in my school email address. I don't know whether it's real or not because things do exist like this...Like today in class we filled out a survey on an ad a company was going to run after researching how it affected people. (Although we did not get paid for that one, we just get extra credit for the class it was in) Also, my roomie has been getting some emails too. We are both in the Recording Industry program which is part of Mass Communications so advertising IS an area close to our area. Here's exactly what the email says... "Dear Kody, I would like to offer you a challenging and well-paid employment opportunity. An International Marketing Research Organization recruits self-motivated and reliable individuals, willing to take part in well-paying research studies conducted for leading US and international businesses. Your opinion as a consumer is important for the success and profitability of many business ventures. That is why they are ready to pay generously for what you think. You can earn from $300 to $550 a week for participating in online surveys, focus group discussions, and product/service evaluations. Become part of our Marketing Research Organization and earn: from $5 to $100 for participating in on-line surveys from $30 to $150 for participating in product/service evaluations from $50 to $250 for participating in virtual focus group discussions For your work, you will need just a computer with Internet connection and a valid e-mail address. You will decide when to work and which surveys to take while enjoying the comfort of your room. If you like the job, you can keep it as long as you want! If you want to become one of our survey takers, please write back and I will send you more information. Sincerely, Carla Baker " I looked to see if "Carla Baker" went to MTSU (the school I go to) and she isn't in the system...Not that that means a lot..but still lol. What's your opinion on it? Thanks for your answers!*UPDATE* I posted this question a few minutes after I read the last email (the one I posted) and I still have no reply. I guess I'll wait a few days and see if they ever reply. If not I guess it is a scam. Although, like one answer said...it does take time so they would be willing to pay a little at least. lol. So who knows, thanks for answering though!*UPDATE #2* Some girl was standing in the middle of a courtyard thing with a sign mentioning doing surveys, and was being recording. I think it was for the MTSU tv channel....But I still have not heard anything from the person who emailed me. more

Resolved Question: What Profession/Career path should I follow?

ok...im a high school senior going to college next year. Im an above avg student but don't really have any special talents like singing acting or that stuff. so im sitting at home right now taking these internet surveys to find out what I should study and I feel like im in some bad comedy. Each question I get about interests is a no. Im good at math, but hate it. My fallback career, if i don't find anything better, is gonna be engineer even though i don't give a damn about it. Im just naturally good at it and got summer scholarships for program...but like i said I don't care about it. I haven't been able to do any sports b/c ive got some unexplained chronic ankle pain so I don't really do much outside. This sorta made me have no real social life. The only thing I really love is advertising and coming up with the concepts. But for everyone of those positions there's about 500 people ready to do anything for it. I'd also like to do archeology or Indiana jonesy like things but that stuff cost more than it makes and id need at least a 2nd job. Well with this information can anyone give me any ideas what I could maybe do or what courses to take to "sample" the careers? Thanks Oh and anyone answering w/o reading this entire thing and giving me some bs answers will be reported....sorry im very desperate. more

Resolved Question: Best Digital Photographic Printer?

(please excuse my ignorance) I was wondering if anyone could offer any advice towards which photographic printer I should buy. I am studying photography at college and need a high quality printer for my final photographs. Due to internet reviews it seems the clear choice is between canon or epson but I am unsure. I was also wondering if anyone knows if you are able to print your photographs with a small white border, as all of the printers advertise printing up to the edge of the paper. Also can you print a4 on an a3+ printer? Sorry for the long question! Thanks in advance! more

Resolved Question: PLEASE! I need help finding the right California Community College for me!!!?

I am going to community college in California this fall, and I desperately need help to find out which is right for me. I lived in San Jose last year working for a nonprofit and then moved away to go to private college in Illinois. I have decided to go back to California to go to a community college for 2 years, and then transfer to a UC. I am a very good student--intelligent, motivated, and hard-working. I earned a 3.9 GPA at the college I attended last fall. Here are the criteria I have for the schools you might suggest: -Strong, solid programs in Social Work, Anthropology, Latino Studies, Education, English, Psychology, or Music (esp. Voice) Performance. -I am hoping to transfer to any of the following UC's: Berkeley, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz. -*PREFERABLY* this community college would be located in the Bay Area, EXCEPT San Jose. Near public transportation, such as the BART, would be ideal. I would not like to go to college anywhere south of Santa Barbara (but Santa Barbara would be fine, too.) -No larger than 20,000 students but no smaller than 2,500 students. If you have any particular knowledge of the community colleges in California, your help would be greatly appreciated. I have already done some research on the Internet through the schools' websites, but they're all advertising for their own schools, so it's tough to get unbiased information. I am hoping to register ASAP and no later than the end of April. It's currently March 28. THANK YOU! more

Resolved Question: What can do when I grow up?

My name is Alisa. I am 18 years old and I currently attend 6th form in London. I am an A level student and I am in the middle of doing my AS in Applied Business and Media Studies both of which I am doing well in. I have an AS in psychology (it was an E grade). I plan to keep Applied Business and Media Studies to A2 level. What I was thinking of doing when I grow up is something to do with advertising. I like the idea of working with a team of a big business to come up with ideas of what will make something sell. I'm usually up to date with the latest music and fashion and things that appeal to others and what kind of audience they attract. So working with a team to know what kind of advertising and what it should be to attract a target audience is what I think is suited to me. I also like researching, preferably by using the internet. Learning new things is something that I like to do as a small hobby so I usually have a little general knowledge about most things. This could help with advertising when I research my audience right? I know that the audience is always changing and I know that my research will always be changing in new directions but I believe it makes me more suited to it. So then, if you can, tell me, what kind of university courses can I take up? What are the requirements? What career am I most suited to? Tell me all the ups and downs of things because for every university prospectus and every course of the UCAS site, they tell you the best thing that you can end up becoming but I would like to be fully aware of all what can happen and where I can end up. Thank you. more

Resolved Question: Do you think that computers can learn?

Here is a dictionary definition of 'learning' : 1.knowledge acquired by systematic study in any field of scholarly application. 2.the act or process of acquiring knowledge or skill. 3. Psychology. the modification of behavior through practice, training, or experience. I would argue that computers can learn. For example, with predictive texting on mobile phones, words that you use more often will come up first. They seem to have learnt from your previous behaviour and adapted to it. This is also the same with searches on the internet, specific advertising ( I see alot of adverts on facebook, myspace etc for music products because it has picked up that I am a musician) and settings on your computer. What do you think? more

Resolved Question: Simpsons things for YOU!(note this is not a thing im asking)?

Homer: D’oh. Ralph: Me fail English? That’s unpossible. Lionel Hutz: This is the greatest case of false advertising I’ve seen since I sued the movie “The Never Ending Story.” Sideshow Bob: No children have ever meddled with the Republican Party and lived to tell about it. Troy McClure: Don’t kid yourself, Jimmy. If a cow ever got the chance, he’d eat you and everyone you care about! Comic Book Guy: The Internet King? I wonder if he could provide faster nudity… Homer: Oh, so they have Internet on computers now! Ned Flanders: I’ve done everything the Bible says — even the stuff that contradicts the other stuff! Comic Book Guy: Your questions have become more redundant and annoying than the last three “Highlander” movies. Chief Wiggum: Uh, no, you got the wrong number. This is 9-1…2. Sideshow Bob: I’ll be back. You can’t keep the Democrats out of the White House forever, and when they get in, I’m back on the streets, with all my criminal buddies. Homer: When I held that gun in my hand, I felt a surge of power…like God must feel when he’s holding a gun. Nelson: Dad didn’t leave… When he comes back from the store, he’s going to wave those pop-tarts right in your face! Milhouse: Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl, Bart? *Why did I have the bowl?* Lionel Hutz: Well, he’s kind of had it in for me ever since I accidentally ran over his dog. Actually, replace “accidentally” with “repeatedly” and replace “dog” with “son.” Comic Book Guy: Last night’s “Itchy and Scratchy Show” was, without a doubt, the worst episode *ever.* Rest assured, I was on the Internet within minutes, registering my disgust throughout the world. Homer: I’m normally not a praying man, but if you’re up there, please save me, Superman. Homer: Save me, Jeebus. Mayor Quimby: I stand by my racial slur. Comic Book Guy: Oh, loneliness and cheeseburgers are a dangerous mix. Homer: You don’t like your job, you don’t strike. You go in every day and do it really half-assed. That’s the American way. Chief Wiggum: Fat Tony is a cancer on this fair city! He is the cancer and I am the…uh…what cures cancer? Homer: Bart, with $10,000 we’d be millionaires! We could buy all kinds of useful things like…love! Homer: Fame was like a drug. But what was even more like a drug were the drugs. Homer: Books are useless! I only ever read one book, “To Kill A Mockingbird,” and it gave me absolutely no insight on how to kill mockingbirds! Sure it taught me not to judge a man by the color of his skin…but what good does *that* do me? Chief Wiggum: Can’t you people take the law into your own hands? I mean, we can’t be policing the entire city! Homer: Weaseling out of things is important to learn. It’s what separates us from the animals…except the weasel. Reverend Lovejoy: Marge, just about everything’s a sin. [holds up a Bible] Y’ever sat down and read this thing? Technically we’re not supposed to go to the bathroom. Homer: You know, the one with all the well meaning rules that don’t work out in real life, uh, Christianity. Smithers: Uh, no, they’re saying “Boo-urns, Boo-urns.” Hans Moleman: I was saying “Boo-urns.” Homer: Kids, you tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is, never try. Homer: Here’s to alcohol, the cause of — and solution to — all life’s problems. Homer: When will I learn? The answers to life’s problems aren’t at the bottom of a bottle, they’re on TV! Chief Wiggum: I hope this has taught you kids a lesson: kids never learn. Homer: How is education supposed to make me feel smarter? Besides, every time I learn something new, it pushes some old stuff out of my brain. Remember when I took that home winemaking course, and I forgot how to drive? Homer: Homer no function beer well without. Duffman: Duffman can’t breathe! OH NO! Grandpa Simpson: Dear Mr. President, There are too many states nowadays. Please, eliminate three. P.S. I am not a crackpot. Homer: Old people don’t need companionship. They need to be isolated and studied so it can be determined what nutrients they have that might be extracted for our personal use. Troy McClure: Hi. I’m Troy McClure. You may remember me from such self-help tapes as “Smoke Yourself Thin” and “Get Some Confidence, Stupid!” Homer: A woman is a lot like a refrigerator. Six feet tall, 300 pounds…it makes ice. Homer: Son, a woman is like a beer. They smell good, they look good, you’d step over your own mother just to get one! But you can’t stop at one. You wanna drink another woman! Homer: Facts are meaningless. You could use facts to prove anything that’s even remotely true! Mr. Burns: I’ll keep it short and sweet — Family. Religion. Friendship. These are the three demons you must slay if you wish to succeed in business. Kent Brockman: …And the fluffy kitten played with that ball of string all through the night. Resolved Question: How to make lots of money, very quickly.?

I want to make lots of money very quickly. I am a personal trainer, a fitness consultant, and I teach study skills as well. I'm not looking for any particular job, but rather some creative ideas on how to rapidly increase profits. If you have some unconventional ideas on how to quickly accelerate income, I'm interested. Here are a few guidelines: - no jobs involving computers or internet (that means PLEASE don't advertise network marketing) - it has to be legal - I shouldn't have to spend a ton of money in order to make a ton of money - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not reply with "you have to work hard to make money" or "making lots of money takes time", I'm not interested in those kinds of responses. Only reply if you can DIRECTLY answer the question. Let the games begin. more

Resolved Question: what do yall think of this?

The Sexualization of Young Girls Media Influences Bratz Doll By Family Editorial Staff The report by the American Psychological Association: "Report of the Task Force on the Sexualization of Girls" focuses on the media culture and its impact on young American women over a long period of time. As a part of everyday life, for many the connection has not been made between the messages conveyed through media, and the self perception of a young person, in this case young girls. The report found:the APA Task Force on the of Girls Television * Youth-oriented programs are disproportionately male in focus * Have a tendency to objectify women. * Female characters are provocatively dressed and behaviors are coded with leering, ogling, staring, and catcalling at the bodies of female characters. * Of the 81 programs analyzed, 84% contained one of the following behaviors in order of the most to the least common: 1-Sexist comments (e.g., broad, bimbo, dumb ass chick, toots, fox, babe, blondie). 2-Verbal sexual objectification of women’s bodies. 3-Body language – involving sexual harassment i.e. jokes which characterized women as sexual objects. Music Videos * 44%–81% of music videos analyzed contain sexual imagery. * Women dress more provocatively than men * Are more likely to serve as decorative objects * Are least likely to play an instrument. * Women are displayed for sexual readiness. * Use sexual readiness to cross the threshold from teenager to adulthood, which conveys the message that sexual readiness is a sign of maturity Music Lyrics . * Researchers coded the content of 164 songs from 16 artists popular with teens. Overall, 15% of songs contained sexually degrading lyrics. Movies * "This gross under representation of women and girls in films with family-friendly content reflects a missed opportunity to present a broad spectrum of girls and women in roles that are non-sexualized". Cartoons and Animation * Are not free from the sexual objectification of young girls and women. * Female characters increasingly wear sexy costumes that don’t match the characters’, fewer clothes. Magazines * Girls and young women are repeatedly encouraged and given advices on how to look and dress for men, a phenomenon labeled “costuming for seduction." Sports Media * The 2008 Olympics provides a prime example of extensive coverage on sports women in minimal sportswear, which was not reflective of the female participants as a whole. Re Video/Computer Games * Games made for specialized systems and those made for personal computers contain highly sexualized content. Internet * "The wide popularity of sites like MySpace.com as well as blog centers has encouraged youth, including girls, to describe themselves on the Internet. Some girls have posed in provocative clothing and posted notices of their sexual availability". Report of the APA Task Force on the f Girls * A study found that 70% of teens 15–17 years of age had accidentally encountered pornography on the Internet, with 23% saying this happened somewhat or very often. Advertising * Women tend to be shown in a state of undress. * "When women are featured as “decorations” in ads (e.g., shown standing seductively next to a car to enhance the image of the car), their major purpose is to be looked at. They are treated as appendages to the product rather than as active consumers or users of the product". * Female models were placed in sexually exploitive positions "for others’ viewing pleasure". * Although advertisers are typically careful not to sexualize young girls directly, several advertising techniques do so indirectly: * "Some girl's/women's magazines includes sexual portrayals of adult women as young girls in advertising (schoolgirl clothing and licking lollipops or popsicles or wearing scaled-up versions of children’s clothing styles like baby doll dresses and tops, and knee socks, all marketed as adult women’s wear" Products Certain products can shape individual and societal expectations. * Dollsthat portray characters whose only interest are fashion, music, boys, and image. * Clothing– An increase in production of “sexy” clothing in child and teen sizes. * Cosmetics-The cosmetics industry targets younger and younger girls. Resolved Question: CAN SOMEONE PROOFREAD THIS!? It's a position essay. If i should add somethin to make it sound more position?

Traveling down a busy highway, a number of well constructed billboards linger near every overpass and exit. Listening to the radio, a song is bluntly disrupted by an irrelevant announcement. Watching television, a popular show is left on a cliff hanger until the 7 minute commercial break is over. Surfing the internet, a banner crosses the monitor disrupting a video or game. There are a number of ways in which advertising may try to persuade the public to buy their products. Advertisers are reaching consumers through everyday conveniences. Most would say advertisement is a way to promote information about services and products, but in most cases, it involves deception and manipulation. It may even trigger severe aggravation and irritation. Advertisers are using the manipulative approach instead of the clear, basic informative approach. Good advertising needs to convey the basic information about the product or service, but often, it takes advantage of the consumer by not including, or disguising some piece of relevant information that might make the consumer think twice about the product. An Advertiser’s objective is to try to make the consumer take the first step towards a specific company. This might make the consumer call an 800 number, go to a showroom, or be convinced that one product is better than another, by using any number of manipulating strategies and tactics. As consumers, people should beware of the media blitz of the advertising warlords. By watching almost any TV commercial, some might notice some fine print at the bottom of the screen. If read quick enough, the print explains that basically what is being advertised is not what the consumer is receiving. It might cost more, be a different color, different size, or not even be available at all. Media (TV, Radio, Internet. Etc.) is found to be the most effective approach for advertisers to reach the consumers. Companies pay anywhere from $10,000 to over $50,000 for actors or celebrities to expose their products in music, movies, television and their everyday lives. This kind of exposure is called product placement. This form of advertising originated in the late 1800’s during a film called Défilé du 8e Battalion. It featured a wheelbarrow with a sunlight soap logo on the side of it. Thus, the business of product placement had begun. Product placement is effective because consumes are more likely to be engaged during a show or movie than during the commercial breaks. The opposite of product placement is said to be called “reverse product placement.” "Reverse product placement" takes "faux product placement" a step further, by making products in real life to match those seen in a movie or TV show. For example, in 2007, 7-Eleven remodeled eleven of its American stores as "Kwik-E-Marts", selling some real-life versions of products seen in episodes of the Simpsons such as Buzz Cola, Duff Beer and Krusty-O's cereal. Although most advertising is manipulative, people rely on it to expose them to new products and services being offered. Informative advertisements provide clear facts and data. A commercial for a dishwashing soap shows how effective one brand works compared to another brand. That’s important for a consumer to see when deciding which brand to purchase. Informative advertising is almost the complete opposite of manipulative advertising. They are relevant to consumers’ interests, they try not to interrupt, and they are informative with clear facts and data. Although informative advertising seems useful, Advertisers often take the manipulative approach to promote their informative product or service. Informative advertisements aren’t well known and tend to be ignored. Advertisements are ruining our society. According to Capital City Weekly, the average household receives over thirty four pounds of advertisements by mail each year. That’s a total of 4.5 million tons of advertisements mailed each year. Unfortunately, studies find that children are the biggest target of all advertising. Kids represent an important part of population to marketers because they have their own purchasing power. They influence their parents' buying decisions and they're the adult consumers of the future. A recent study conducted by the Center on Alcohol Marketing and Youth found that the top 15 programs in 2003 had alcohol in their ads. That is a wrong example to be setting for our next generation of voters, politicians, doctors, and the future generation of America. Subliminal messaging and hidden product placement among others, are abusing the informative format of advertising. Advertising that could improve our society is not exposed enough. Issues like gun control and drunk driving are significant and superior to issues like toys being sold at McDonalds and what shows to watch on primetime TV. Advertisements need to be limited. They are hurting the future generation, spending America's money, and overwhelming our free country. Nobody but the publ more

Resolved Question: Can someone possibly proofread this and make suggestions on a conclusion. It's a position essay. Feedback a +?

Traveling down a busy highway, a number of well constructed billboards linger near every overpass and exit. Listening to the radio, a song is bluntly disrupted by an irrelevant announcement. Watching television, a popular show is left on a cliff hanger until the 7 minute commercial break is over. Surfing the internet, a banner crosses the monitor disrupting a video or game. There are a number of ways in which advertising may try to persuade the public to buy their products. Advertisers are finding ways to promote their products by manipulation through everyday conveniences. Unfortunately, studies find that children are the biggest target of these tactics. Kids represent an important part of population to marketers because they have their own purchasing power. They influence their parents' buying decisions and they're the adult consumers of the future. Most would say advertisement is a way to promote information about services and products, but in most cases, it involves deception and manipulation. It may even trigger severe aggravation and irritation. Good advertising needs to convey the basic information about the product or service, but often, it takes advantage of the consumer by not including, or disguising some piece of relevant information that might make the consumer think twice about the product. Resolved Question: From the case study below, why there is a significant gap between what people say and what they do when it com?

Almost 90% of UK internet users are prepared to give away private data despite 84% of the same users claiming to be very guarded about online privacy. While conducting research about targeted behavioural advertising, online content and advertising company AOL found that most of the 1,000 online consumers it surveyed claimed to be very conscious about their privacy and claimed to guard carefully their personal details. It found that 84% of those people said that they would not give away income details online but then found that 89% of the those surveyed were willing to do exactly that. “Our research identified a significant gap between what people say and what they do when it comes to protecting sensitive information online,” said Jules Polonetsky, AOL’s chief privacy officer The survey asked participants a series of questions about their attitudes to privacy and, according to an AOL spokesman, also asked them to indicate which of a choice of income brackets they fitted into. It found that 87.3% of those who had said they guarded income details actually gave them away, the spokesman said. The survey discovered that the message that users should protect their privacy is getting through, though. While 34% of people expected to experience credit card fraud, just 11% had actually experienced it. AOL said that its research found that the more that people understood about the risks of online privacy violations, the less concerned they were about them. AOL commissioned the research from consultancy Promise as part of its campaign to raise awareness of the privacy implications of targeted behavioural advertising, the practice of monitoring a person's internet use and sending them adverts the company believes are relevant to them. Behavioural advertising has attracted adverse publicity in some cases from privacy activists and regulators worried about the monitoring of users' behaviour. Such monitoring is not illegal if it is done with the user's consent and permission. A company called Phorm ran into trouble earlier this year when internet service provider (ISP) customers reacted angrily to suggestions that their ISPs were about to install Phorm's traffic-monitoring system to better help websites to deliver adverts related to people's surfing. Polonetsky recognised that there were risks attached to behavioural advertising. "Personalising content and delivering relevant advertising online will only succeed for consumers and for advertisers if it is done in a trustworthy and transparent manner," he said. "In addition, business and government will need to offer approaches that recognise that at certain times personalisation and data use will be welcomed, and in other cases, users will demand limits on the use of their data.” AOL's research was presented at a seminar at the House of Commons last month, where the Information Commissioner Richard Thomas, the UK's privacy regulator, spoke. He said that companies had to make sure they followed simple, clear guildelines, or risked losing their customers. “By taking a practical, down-to-earth approach to data protection and privacy, we can simplify good practice for the majority of organisations who seek to handle personal information well," said Thomas. "If organisations fail to meet their data protection obligations they not only risk enforcement action by the ICO, they also risk losing the trust of their customers." AOL used to be an internet service provider but is now a content and advertising business. Like other online advertising companies it carries out behaviourally-targetted advertising by using cookies to see what sites a visitor has previously viewed and serving ads it believes are relevant to that person.  more

Resolved Question: Statistics, question please help.?

CASE: SHELL ATTEMPTS TO RETURN TO PREMIERE STATUS The Shell Oil Company, which began about 1912, had been for decades a household name as a quality oil company in the United States. However, by the late 1970s much of its prestige as a premiere company had disappeared. How could Shell regain its high status? In the 1990s, Shell undertook an extensive research effort to find out what it needed to do to improve its image. As a first step, Shell hired Responsive Research and the Opinion Research Corporation to conduct a series of focus groups and personal interviews among various segments of the population. Included in these were youths, legislators, academics, and present and past employees of Shell. The researchers learned that people believe that top companies are integral parts of the communities in which the companies are located rather than separate entities. These studies and others led to the development of materials that Shell used to explain their core values to the general public. Next, PERT Survey Research ran a large quantitative study to determine which values were best received by the target audience. Social issues emerged as the theme with the most support. During the next few months, the advertising agency of Ogilvy & Mather, hired by Shell, developed several campaigns with social themes. Two market research companies were hired to evaluate the receptiveness of the various campaigns. The result was the “Count on Shell” campaign, which featured safety messages with useful information about what to do in various dangerous situations. A public “Count on Shell” campaign was launched in February 1998 and met with considerable success: the ability to recall Shell advertising jumped from 20% to 32% among opinion influencer's; more than 1million copies of Shell’s free safety brochures were distributed and activity on Shell’s Internet “Count on Shell” site remains extremely strong. By promoting itself as a reliable company that cares, Shell seems to be regaining its premiere status. Today, Shell continues its efforts to be “community friendly.” United Way of America announced Shell Oil Company as one of its three Spirit of America Summit Award winners for 2002 and commended the company for its outstanding volunteer and corporate contributions programs. Several Shell employees were recognized by the Houston Minority Business Council for their continued efforts to provide windows of opportunity for minority business owners and strengthen Shell’s commitment to supplier diversity. Shell employees and retires give back to their communities through such Shell-sponsored activities as America’s WETLAND campaign, Shell’s Workforce Development Initiative, and other community/quality of life and environmental projects. Shell is also a strong supporter of the Points of Light Foundation, which strives to engage people more effectively in volunteer community service. Discussion: 1. Suppose you were asked to develop a sampling plan to determine what a “premiere company” is to the general public. What sampling plan would you use? What is the target population? What would you use for a frame? Which of the four types of random sampling discussed in this chapter would you use? Could you use a combination of two or more of the types (two-stage-sampling)? If so, how? 2. It appears that at least one of the research companies hired by Shell used some stratification in their sampling. What are some of the variables on which they are stratified? If you were truly interested in ascertaining opinions from a variety of segments of the population which regard to opinions on “premiere” companies or about Shell, what strata might make sense? Name at least five and justify why you would include them. more

Resolved Question: Advice to Young Men from an Old Man ? what would you take?

1. Don’t pick on the weak. It’s immoral. Don’t antagonize the strong without cause, its stupid. 2. Don’t hate women. It’s a waste of time 3. Invest in yourself. Material things come to those that have self actualized. 4. Get in a fistfight, even if you are going to lose. 5. As a former Marine, take it from me. Don’t join the military, unless you want to risk getting your balls blown off to secure other people’s economic or political interests. 6. If something has a direct benefit to an individual or a class of people, and a theoretical, abstract, or amorphous benefit to everybody else, realize that the proponent’s intentions are to benefit the former, not the latter, no matter what bullshit they try to feed you. 7. Don’t be a Republican. They are self-dealing crooks with no sense of honor or patriotism to their fellow citizens. If you must be a Republican, don’t be a “conservative.” They are whining, bitching, complaining, simple-minded self-righteous idiots who think they’re perpetual victims. Listen to talk radio for a while, you’ll see what I mean. 8. Don’t take proffered advice without a critical analysis. 90% of all advice is intended to benefit the proponent, not the recipient. Actually, the number is probably closer to 97%, but I don’t want to come off as cynical. 9. You’ll spend your entire life listening to people tell you how much you owe them. You don’t owe the vast majority of people shit. 10. Don’t undermine your fellow young men. Mentor the young men that come after you. Society recognizes that you have the potential to be the most power force in society. It scares them. Society does not find young men sympathetic. They are afraid of you, both individually and collectively. Law enforcement’s primary purpose is to suppress you. 11. As a young man, you’re on your own. Society divides and conquers. Unlike women who have advocates looking out for them (NOW, Women’s Study Departments, government, non-profit organizations, political advocacy groups) almost no one is looking out for you. 12. Young men provide the genius and muscle by which our society thrives. Look at the Silicone Valley. By in large, it was not old men or women that created the revolution we live. Realize that society steals your contributions, secures it with our intellectual property laws, and then takes credit and the rewards where none is due. 13. Know that few people have your best interests at heart. Your mother does. Your father probably does (if he stuck around). Your siblings are on your side. Everybody else worries about themselves. 14. Don’t be afraid to tell people to “Fuck off” when need be. It is an important skill to acquire. As they say, speak your piece, even if your voice shakes. 15. Acquire empathy, good interpersonal skills, and confidence. Learn to read body language and non-verbal communication. Don’t just concentrate on your vocational or technical skills, or you’ll find your wife fucking somebody else. 16. Keep fit. 17. Don’t speak ill of your wife/girlfriend. Back her up against the world, even if she’s wrong. She should know that you have her back. When she needs your help, give it. She should know that you’ll take her part. 18. Don’t cheat on your wife/girlfriend. If you must cheat, don’t humiliate her. Don’t risk having your transgressions come back to her or her friends. Don’t do it where you live. Don’t do it with people in your social circle. Don’t shit in your own back yard. 19. If your girlfriend doesn’t make you feel good about yourself and bring joy to your life, fire her. That’s what girlfriends are for. 20. Don’t bother with “emotional affairs.” They are just a vehicle for women to flirt and have someone make them feel good about themselves. That’s the part of a relationship they want. For you it is a lot of work and investment in time. If they are having an emotional affair with you, they’re probably fucking someone else. 21. Becoming a woman’s friend and confidant is not going to get you into an intimate relationship. If you haven’t gotten the girl within a reasonably short period of time, chances are you won’t ever get her. She’ll end up confiding to you about the sexual adventures she’s having with someone else. 22. Have and nurture friendships with women. 23. Realize that love is a numbers game. Guys fall in love easily. You’re going to see some girl and feel like you’ll die if you don’t get her. If she rejects you, move on to the next one. It’s her loss. 24. Don’t be an internet troll. Got out and live life. There is not a cadre of beautiful women advertising on Craigslist to have NSA sex with you. Beautiful women don’t need to advertise. The websites that advertise with attractive women’s photos and claims of loneliness are baloney. All they want is your money and your personal information so that they can market to you. The posts on Craigslist by young “women” seeking NSA sex, and asking for a picture are just a bunch of gay troll pic collectors. This is especially true if the post uses common gay lexicon like “hole” as in “fuck my hole” or seeks “masculine” men, or uses the word cock (except in the context of “Don’t send a cock shot.”) There are women on Craigslist. They are easily recognizable by their 2-5 paragraph postings. Most are in their 30's or older. 25. When you become a man in full, know that people will get in your way. People who are attracted to you will somehow manage to step in your path. Gay guys will give you “the look.” Old people will somehow stumble in front of you at the worst time. Don’t get frustrated. Just step aside and go about your business. Know that these are passive aggressive methods to get you to acknowledge their existence. 26. Don’t gay bash. Don’t mentally or physically abuse people because of who they are, or how they present themselves. It’s none of your business to try to intimidate people into conformity. 27. If your gay, admit it to yourself, your parents, your friends and society at large. Be prepared to get harassed. See rule 14. If someone threatens you or assaults you, call the cops. Have them arrested. You have no obligation to self sacrifice because of who you are. As a gay person, you’ll have more social freedom than straight men. Use it to protect yourself. Be prepared to get out of Dodge if your orientation makes your life unbearable. Move to San Francisco, New York, Atlanta, or New Orleans. You’ll find a welcoming community there. 28. Don’t be a poser. Avoid being one of those dudes who puts a surfboard on top of their car, but never surfs, or a dude with a powder coated fixed gear bike and a messenger bag, but was never a messenger. Live the life. Earn your bona fides. 29. Don’t believe the crap about the patriarchy. More women are accepted and attend college. More degrees are awarded to women than men. Women outlive men. More men commit suicide. Men are twice as likely to be victims of violence, including murder. If you consider sexual assaults in prisons, twice as many men are raped as women (society thinks prison rape is funny). The streets are littered with homeless men, sprinkled with a few homeless women. Statically, women are happier than men. The myth that girls are being cheated by are educational system is belied by the fact that schools are bastions of femininity, mostly run by and taught by women. Girls outperform boys in school. It is the boys in school getting fucked over, and prescribed ritalin for being boys. Real wages for men are falling, while real wages for women are rising. Just because someone says something enough times, doesn’t make it true. You have nothing to feel guilty about. 30. Remember, 97% of all advice is worthless. Take what you can use, and trash the rest. vicioustwist san francisco 02-15-07 more

Resolved Question: Internet Debate Essay. What Do You Think ? Please Help ! ( Year 10 Coursework)?

It could be argued that the internet is the best technical development of our time. Since its creation in the late sixties, it has quickly become an important and beneficial piece of modern technology to millions of people all over the world. It is a global computer network, which provides a variety of facilities for communication, information and entertainment. With simple and immediate access to endless websites, available with just a click of a mouse, it may seem that surfing the net is the perfect cure for boredom. On the contrary, many people find themselves questioning this positive attitude towards the World Wide Web, when considering the risks and disadvantages that it brings, and the dangers that anyone may encounter whilst online. Amongst the most popular sites are social networks, such as ’Facebook’ and ‘Netlog’, where users have their own page within the network, and can communicate with each other no matter where in the world they are. People of any age, race or background can use these sites, which means you can talk to all sorts of people and learn about hundreds of different cultures and lifestyles. This is a great way to meet new friends or keep in touch with your old ones. ‘MySpace’ is a network where accounts and home pages are created by users, and pictures, music, blogs (online diaries) and videos can be uploaded. Bands, venues, individuals or even companies may have their own ‘MySpace’ and therefore you are sure to find something of interest amongst the thousands of accounts. ‘Msn Messenger’, the instant messaging service, is probably the most popular way for web users to stay in contact and have free, live conversations with any number of people. This means it is possible for many disabled internet users to talk amongst friends, without the trouble of leaving the house or the high expense of using the telephone. The disadvantage of this way of communicating is the lack of trust available between members, due to the fact that there is no sure way of knowing exactly whom you are talking to. People can lie about their identity, particularly their age, and paedophiles and stalkers may use the sites as easy access to their victims. Adults may lure children into thinking they are other children of a similar age and might convince them into meeting up with them in the outside world. This is called grooming and has been known to lead onto kidnappings, rape and violent attacks. Innocent youths may also fall victims to people of their own age, when accounts are hacked and abuse can be written through fake identities. It seems easier for teenagers to emotionally and mentally bully children of their own age whilst online, without the full contact of face-to-face conversation in real-life. Hateful messages can be sent through instant messaging, emails and even comment boxes on websites or someone’s personal page. This cyber bullying is a huge issue online and children can often feel unsafe within their own homes if they are suffering this abuse. Social networks may also have an addictive affect on users meaning they interact a lot less with friends and family. Users may even be left lacking the skills to have real conversations with people, without being able to hide behind a computer screen and keyboard. Then again, there is also the isolation that people who do not have internet access may face. They are unable to stay in touch with friends in the way that so may people take for granted. However, a final advantage of these social networking sites is that they are an advertisers dream. Businesses can easily advertise online, and popular sites such as these social networking ones are a huge opportunity to attract customers. Children, adults, parents and people of different professions and interests can be specifically targeted through certain websites, which are suited to them, in order to attract the most potential customers. A good example of this is through search engines, which make their money by displaying advertisements within the results of what the internet user has searched. Of course businesses can use the internet to their advantage in many other ways also. Records and databases can be held on the internet, and secured and accessed through passwords. The stock exchange can be viewed online and companies can check in on their competition by simply searching for them on the internet. They can research customer demand , or keep in touch with buyers, employees and other businesses via email or their own webpage .Finally, websites like ‘Monster’, which is an online directory where employees upload their CV’s, allow employers to find the most suitable staff, without having to hold hundreds of interviews. Another way in which the internet is highly useful is through its vast range of entertainment available. This entertainment can mean that it is no longer necessary to leave your seat in order to have fun, and therefore hundreds of people have a significant lack of exercise, which of course is a health risk. This has been linked to the increasing problem of obesity in both children and adults. On the other hand, the vast sources of entertainment are a major plus to millions of internet surfers. Video upload sites prove to be very popular with hundreds of thousands of viewers visiting Youtube everyday. Anyone can upload anything they like onto these sites from TV series, to homemade short films, music videos and any other creations. It is a great way to watch and create video blogs and learn about other people from across the world. It could even be said that the internet is better than a remote control. Online gaming is another aspect of the internet to enjoy. Hundreds of free games are available to download and play with genres to suit everyone. Puzzle, adventure, racing and even multiplayer games can be accessed quickly through many websites, the majority are free and simple to download or play though a flash player. Downloading is relied on by many people so that they can have the latest songs and films stored to their own computer and then sent to their phone or personal music and video players (Ipods or MP4s). ‘Limewire’ is a program that allows millions of files to be shared across the net and almost anything can be downloaded quickly and simply from this free source. This can mean that the artists and producers of songs are missing out on profits that they deserve. All this freedom of viewing on the net can be dangerous when there are no age restrictions. Youths may be badly influenced by violent images they see online, and unsuitable pornographic material is easily accessible to them at the click of a mouse. Most adults would agree that this needs to be more carefully regulated, but it is highly unlikely that age restrictions would ever prevent teenagers from intentionally viewing these sites, when they can simply type in a false age. This easy accessibility throughout the internet can be useful though when referring to educational purposes. Students have many websites available that are dedicated to encourage and enable studying, revision and coursework. BBC Bitesize in particular is a useful website which pupils of Key stage three and Key Stage four can use to assist them in learning. Teachers can also benefit from the online lesson plans on offer throughout the net and students can stay in touch with their tutors through email whenever necessary. The internet can also be considered as a brilliant learning aid because of its huge volumes of information covering endless varieties of subjects; it could be thought of as the biggest encyclopaedia in the world. Information that is usually unobtainable in local libraries is easily reached through search engines and students can read expert knowledge from specialists in the topic they need. Never the less there are still negative aspects to using the internet this way. It makes it possible for pupils to copy and cheat on tests and coursework using past essays and work that someone has uploaded onto the web previously. Some learners may become dependent on using the internet for help with their work and not able to perform as well under exam conditions in school. Some information gained from websites may be seriously outdated or inaccurate and therefore useless. There is also an unfair advantage on students that do no have internet access at home. Shopping online is another great way of taking advantage of the World Wide Web. You can purchase anything from a huge assortment of products from anywhere in the world; from clothes, gifts, memorabilia and anything else that you could possibly want. It’s the ultimate shopping experience, and shops you can find on the high street have their own online stores along with shops only available on the net. It is a much simpler way of browsing for whatever you may be looking for, without the bother of busy crowds. There are also often online discounts available, or some items sold on the internet are originally cheaper than on the high street anyway, and comparing prices online is easily done. Being able to shop online makes a big difference in peoples lives if they are disabled or seriously ill. Being housebound means that they do not get the chance to visit the supermarket or their local city centre on a regular basis, like so many people do, but that problem has been solved with home delivery. Anything they might buy off the internet can probably be delivered straight to their doorstep, whether it’s their weekly shop or something they’ve splashed out on. ‘Ebay’ is a massively successful online auction site where you can bid on items which other people are selling through the website. All you need is an online account and then you can start buying and selling pretty much what ever takes your fancy. You can make money by selling unwanted pieces in your home or save money by striking lucky in an auction, and having the winning bid on your requested item. However, things that you see on the internet may not always turn out to be what you expected when they arrive at your home. What you have bought may have been misrepresented online and you could be left disappointed with something you have no use of. It is also common to overspend without realising when buying online. Paying for goods via the internet is only possible by using a credit card and sometimes this means that you are not as aware of exactly how much money you are parting with, if you do not physically hand it over. Even more unfortunate is that your card details may not be secure and someone else could use your bank account without you knowing. Although using the internet is an essential aspect to many people’s lives, it does prove to have risks and consequences if used inappropriately or too often. Still, I have to disagree with the statement of “the internet is a monster out of control” because I find that the pros out weigh the cons by far. Without the internet certain aspects of life would prove difficult to me and millions of other people. The web is relied on everyday for purposes of work, school and play and as long as we approach it with more knowledge of the dangers, it can benefit us the many ways that it is intended to. more

Resolved Question: Teens Not Terrorists: Muslim Girls Get a Voice in Muslim Girl Magazine?

New glossy contemporary lifestyle magazine targets American Muslim girls. Chicago, IL (PRWeb) January 19, 2007 -- American teen Muslim girls are much like teen girls everywhere – so says a recent nationwide study of Muslim girls aged 14-18 years. The study was conducted on behalf of Muslim Girl Magazine , a new bi-monthly glossy magazine launched this month to give 400,000 American Muslim teen girls a lively and uniquely relevant perspective on contemporary living. “Our study showed that these girls go to public school, watch a little too much television, read teen magazines, surf the Internet, use Google, enjoy YouTube, play video games, shop a lot, talk on the telephone and spend time just hanging out,” says Faye Kennedy, VP at execuGo Media, the publisher that commissioned the study. “In short, they are pretty much like most other American teenagers.” The study also highlighted some likely differences: for example, they get news at Al Jazeera, socialize at IslamiCity and count among their top hobbies, Qur’an study. The research confirmed Kennedy’s hunch: teen Muslim girls in America would love a lifestyle magazine that does what no other teen girl magazine has done for them – give them a means of enjoying contemporary life within the values they love. Over 90% of the panel, when shown the initial concept, indicated that they liked it, thought it was what they need, would read it and would recommend it to their friends. Ausma Khan, PhD, writer, human rights lawyer and activist, liked the concept so much that she left a teaching position at Northwestern University to become Editor in Chief. “Most representations of Muslims in the media are negative,” she says. “Muslim Girl Magazine challenges those perceptions by telling the stories of Muslim teens who are proud to be American and who contribute to American society in so many positive ways. This is a chance for their voices to be heard. Our editorial mandate is to ‘enlighten, celebrate and inspire’ them.” Challenging stereotypes about Muslim girls in America, Muslim Girl Magazine re-defines the face of Muslim youth in America. Its innovative content showcases teen girls who are equally proud of their identity as Americans and Muslims, while not shying away from the conflict inherent in being both. It also shakes up the complacency of Muslims themselves by emphasizing the diversity of practice within American Muslim communities, typically a no-go area. The premiere issue of the magazine features girls who have joined the Peace Corps and volunteered in Indonesia. Advice columns tackle everything from boyfriends to divorced parents to anti-Muslim discrimination. Regular departments range from Qur’an Notes to Hot List reviews of TV shows like The CW Television Network’s ‘Gilmore Girls.’ And a special feature on the hit show ‘24’ directly confronts the biggest elephant in the room—the association of Muslims with terrorism. Khan says, “We’re showing hijab-wearing basketball players alongside contemporary fashion designers and artists. We want to dispel the notion that Muslim teens conform to one particular model. Veiled or unveiled, Muslim girls participate fearlessly in sports, the arts, international travel and their local mosques.” Muslim Girl Magazine launched with a planned circulation of 50,000 copies per issue in the first year and expects to grow to 100,000 within two years. Dianna Hightower, Publisher and Director of Business Development and Advertising, expects advertising to grow quickly. “Today the Muslim market is where the Hispanic market was five years ago — on the verge of a major breakout. Households of Muslim girls comprise a valuable commercial profile with higher than average scores on income, education, occupation and size. Having Fox Broadcasting and Oxford University Press advertise in our first issue is evidence that prestigious and smart advertisers see strong potential.” Muslim Girl Magazine is published by award-winning execuGo Media of Toronto, Canada and distributed worldwide by RCS of Los Angeles, California. The cover price is $4.95 US ($5.95 CDN). The annual subscription rate is $19.99 at www.muslimgirlmagazine.com. Resolved Question: Were anti-porn feminists right? Study shows porn hurts young women and girls?

Sexualization of girls is linked to common mental health problems in girls and young women—eating disorders, low self-esteem, and depression; an APA Task Force Reports today. Psychologists call for replacing sexualized images of girls in the media and advertising with positive ones. What did the APA Task Force study? They studied published research on the content and effects of television, music videos, music lyrics, magazines, movies, video games and the Internet. They also examined recent advertising campaigns and merchandising of products aimed toward girls. What can be done? Schools, the APA says, should teach media literacy skills to all students and should include information on the negative effects of the sexualization of girls in media literacy and sex education programs. Were anti-porn feminists right? Porn really is bad for society? Here's the APA press release for the study: http://www.apa.org/releases/sexualization.htmlHere's an AP article about the APA study as well called "Web, Reality TV Help Make Porn Pervasive": http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/T/THE_PORN_EFFECT?SITE=VTBUR&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT The AP article points out the old double standard is still in play: Julie Albright, a sociologist at the University of Southern California, has found in her research that "men are 'players' if they have multiple partners, but as Michael Simon, a therapist and high school counselor says, girls "end up getting pegged as 'sl*ts.'" more

Resolved Question: Am doing unpaid preaching, which costs me money.Need to get credential for some paid preaching suggestions?

I am a retired college history teacher, Ph.D. from Auburn, who is a saved Christian currrently doing volunteer work for the Lord, preaching for a prison, nursing home, and small nondenominational church. Unfortunately small church is costing me money. Therefore, I need some income to continue this; not a lot. I attend a United Methodist church, and do some volunteer work in it. I wanted to talk to the pastor at the UM church I attend, but didn't know what to ask him. I am currently ordained by Universal Ministries. I have a lot of public speaking experience, and am studying the Bible, and want to continue this. A person cannot really advertise to preach. The openings from internet job sites are for full-time positions. My beliefs are basicallly Methodist, Baptist. I wondered if anyone knew a way to get some credentials from an association, so I could spread the Good News, and have enough funds to continue with the nondenominational church"Luke 17:6" said how difficult it was for a rich man to get in, not on a camel. It reminded me of Matthew 19:24 in which Jesus says "it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." Taken literally this would seem to be a harsh approach toward persons like Danny Thomas, who spent millions helping thousands of children in his Memphis hospital. After having a change of heart (God forgives) John D. Rockefeller established tremendously needed help for the poor, blacks, and others. The key to this passage is that the phrase camel going through the eye of a needle is Middle Eastern. All cities of any size during Jesus' day were protected by gates to keep them from being stormed by an enemy army on horses at night. The gates had a small box that an individual with a camel could squeeze through; a couple of guards would attend it.Mustard seed faith can produce income easier than getting inside a camel's bowels. more

Resolved Question: What do those of you who believe that the media are injustice, think of this?

I think reading this in 5-10 minutes would be better than listening to the news for a lifteime.Plz don't think I'm a very old person.Just 18.A university student studying English who just cannot sit back and hope. This article has two parts: 1.Cultural and general info and music 2.political info.If you wanna get enlightened and shocked read it from top to bottom. Hi.I'm Iranian and I live in Iran. When I chat with people from other countries, I understand that they have totally wrong ideas about Iran.I just wrote this article to correct you. The first thing they accuse our government of, is that they don't let you be free.Actually, Iranians would be some of the most liberal people in the world (liberal meaning not obeying laws that they don't like).Thousands of millions of strict rules in other countries, don't even exist in Iran. Also, you should understand that what may seem so normal to you, may be a nightmare for us and vise versa. That's why you don't understand a few of Iran's laws.In Iran every single house has a sattelite. Sattelite channels had a serious influence on people, they wear very fashionable clothes.Maybe it's a kind of immitation, but still it's got an unique Iranian style. You'll see lots of beauty qeens on the streets that are just like models advertising fashionable clothes! Most part of their hair is out and they wear a lot of make up, also wearing scarves is a part of our culture.Iran is one of the super-consumers of cosmics (which is bad for our economy)! People do whatever they wish to and some of the things they do, don't fit our culture at all, however it's normal in Iran. You'll be surprised seeing the difference between what you imagined before and how the real Iran is! It's wonderful.Everything's so great if you don't take unemployment, inflation and air pollution into account which I guess are common problems in many other countries. Many things have changed so far.I can't even compare Iran with 5 years ago, let alone comparing it with 30 years ago!!!! After all, nearly 65-70% of Iran's population is considered the new generation (The youth) and they've transformed everything. Some people think women don't have any rights in Iran! Women are overtaking Iran. They're treated very well. They're the winners in most cases: They get into the best universities cos they're so clever. They get the best jobs cos they can do jobs much better than men. They've got rights that have made it difficult for men to marry them, because husbands buy them expensive things and treat them very well, otherwise women will have the right to ask them a great amount of money according to the law which most husbands cannot afford, so they'll be imprisoned. The only thing that women are not allowed to do in Iran is getting into public football stadiums and that's just because in Iran such places are usually full of cheeky guys who would cheek girls. They do anything from taking part in rallies to singing DJ / pop songs.Anything! I've put a sample here.I feel foolish for sitting here explaining ordinary things to you. Another funny thing: Your footage about stoning the women who have committed adultery.Have you ever asked yourselves they relate to how many years ago?Just for your information, those are from Afghanistan which was ruled by those freaks (Taliban). When you think of such things, try to think of the racism in your country too.I find it difficult to make you understand that Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan are SEPERATE COUNTRIES! and that 60% of Iranians are Persian and 30% are Turkish! I find it even more difficult to make you understand that Iran is a normal country like any other countries in the world. There's nothing mysterious about it!(The media are very good at making scary titles: BEHIND THE CLOSED DOORS!!! IRAN UNDERCOVER!!! This would be enough to scare people away! Iranians are much more educated, intelligent and open-minded than what you think!!! I'm sure you don't know that there are lots and lots of Iranian geniouses and scientists that are all under 25.You don't hear about their discoveries and inventions on TV. For instance this 17 year old boy has invented 72 amazing inventions and there are many many KIDS like that. You don't know that Iranian students and sportsmen win gold and silver medals in different compotitions in the world all the time such as robotics, biology, maths, physics, sports, anything! Why don't the media talk about them? They just can't summerise everything in one word "nuclear", although we're proud of it cos having nuclear energy means a country is developed.Did you know that the countries having the highest number of scientists in the world are in this order? 1-India 2-Korea 3-Iran A few months ago Iran uncovered the most effective anti-H.I.V medicine and it was signing treaties with other countries to export it.I digged the news on the internet, but there was no single sign of that. What did I find instead? "President Bush CLAIMS that bomb parts are imported from Iran into Iraq!"(The same old story!) The media are injustice. They put CLAIMS on the headlines, but they never talk about facts! Some interesting facts: Iran is the pionier in medicine and genetics and Iranian surgens have found lots of new methods for treating spinal defects and many other diseases (mainly the treatment for different types of cancer) and the best brain and heart surgens are Iranian surgens. The head of Mars Mission in NASA is Iranian. One of the best designers of sports cars working in Germany is Iranian. Some of the best 3D animators are Iranian.Iran is one of the best countries in counter-engineering.Holds the second place in building dams and holds records in loads of other things! It's one of the top countries in these fields: bio-technology and nono-technology.The 4th highest tower in the world (Milad tower) is in Tehran (which you can visit in the second link).51 top universities out of the 100 top universities in the Mid-East are in Iran and they're among some of the top universities of the world as well. The champion weight-lifter is Iranian. The woman, and a song by one of the pop singers who/which won the nobel peace prize are Iranians and lots of Iranians win nobel prizes specially in medicine field. And as you all know, Iranian girls are famous for being terrific.Persian rug and Persian literature, many Persian poets and scientists that are so famous.Persian culture is now westernised and only a little has survived! There are many other things. How many pages would you need to describe a country? And also, Iran is an independant country unlike its neighbouring countries. It has nearly all the developed industries and technologies and doesn't need other countries to survive! The list is endless. It's now 2007 and people still think we are uneducated people living in deserts, riding camels and carrying around guns!!!! See how the media are fooling people? None of the things you hear on the media about Iran are true. Let's clarify some political issues as well: Some of the Americans I chatted with, said in the U.S it's said that president Ahmadinejad hates the U.S and Israel and wants to nuke them!! The media are good at putting comments. It's easy to show a video or an image of our president or leader on the T.V screen or on the internet and say he says this, he says that.....I really don't get the point why our politicians defame themselves by talking about things that have got nothing to do with us.For example does verbal defence of Palestinians cause them to have a better life? The thing is that they occasionally make some statements that the media would misuse it agaisnt Iran. For example they pick up some specific phrases of a long speech (without reffering to the main points and reasons for that speech) and put so many bad comments on that.No sane person would take it for granted. First of all, Iranians don't hate anyone. If our government complains about some injustice going on in the world, it's not bad.Is it? (Although what we want them is to not to get us into trouble by talking about things that are none of our concern.) We hate neither Jews nor Americans.I love Americans otherwise why would I talk to them?! How would our guys dream of America, be like them as much as possible and hate it at the same time?! Although ordinary Iranians don't care much about world affairs, I've got to say that for us Israel is not equal with Jews! Israel is a govt.Jews are faithful people! A few of them live here in our neighbourhood and they live just like the rest of Iranians. No difference. And two of Iran's parliment members are Jews. Who says we want to force others to convert to Islam?Have you ever found a Muslem knocking at your door asking you to do so?It's so funny the way you imagine things and make yourselves believe in your own immaginations! Christians and Jews are both God believers and respectful to us.I wonder why the media like putting words in our mouth and raising hatred. In Iran, religion would be the least important thing. It means that where you come from and what your religion is, are not important to us at all.On the contrary, meeting different people would be so interesting for us! I love the Japanese who come here! I wonder Iran is a threat to whom. Which logical rule admits that it's logical to say a country is guilty because we THINK / PREDICT that she's going to do something wrong?!!!! And they repeat the same "nuclear" tosh over and over and brain wash people! News headlines: "We won't allow Iran to gain nuclear weapons"!!! Has Iran ever attacked any countries? No.Has it developed any nukes? No!That's what nuclear agency says.Only Iran's oppositions are pulling Iran's leg and what they say is of no credit. It's just based on political conflicts. What we're doing is legal. What they ask us to do (ignoring our international rights) is illegal and nonsense.Iran is a peaceful country. Why? It's the regional super-power and if she wanted, she could easily invade the countries in our neibourhood just like what Seddam did to our country, but as you see Iran has peaceful relationships with all of them.It could be a good example to some countries that just follow their interests. What is interesting is that the countries which accuse Iran of different things have been, and are still accused of the same things!!! This is a modern and innovative form of philosophy and logic! Some people say he said: Israel should be wiped off the map! But have they told you the rest of his speech and that why he's said this at all?You know that it's a passive sentence. He's never said that IRAN wants to wipe Israel off the map! He wasn't talking about destroying Israel. He was talking about relocating Israel, so that they could live seperate from Palestinians and they could both live in peace. They've only told you this phrase not the whole thing and it's mistranslated intentionally.Iran's always defended itself, but it's not an offensive country. Some say he's said: Holocaust is a myth! again this is a single phrase from among a long speech and there are totally logical reasons for saying so.If 6000000 Jews were killed, that's so terrible, but those 300000 Shiite Moslems killed by Saddam aren't important at all! Over 650000 Iraqi people are killed and it's not important! When Fox News simply says: America and Israel are capable of destroying and killing all Iran's 69000000 population within two weeks, it's OK and no one says they're threatening other countries to nuke them (I saw this with my own eyes on the Fox News website) Millions of people killed in Afghanistan, Hiroshima & Nakazaki and vietnam war are not considered human beings at all! Now I think you'd get the point why he's IRONICALLY said it's a mith. Moreover, don't you believe in freedom of speech/mind? Obviousely, some countries are using Iran as a victim to put the blame (their own faults) on Iran. And which country is better than Iran to be a victim? They've made the whole world believe that Iran isn't a peaceful country and represent false image of Iranians by making insulting movies like "300" . Anyone saying that it was not for political reasons is wrong. I know Americans don't like these either, but what can they do?They're not responsible for controlling what the media say.I hope someday the media would end all this instead of playing a negative role in the world. This part is just for Americans who would still argue over unimportant things: Those of you who say why Iran says "Death to America": 1.America means the U.S govt not the people 2.The new generation don't say such things and if some of them occasionally march in the streets that's because some of the stupid guys enjoy making noise and they mainly go out there to meet their girlfreids/boyfriends! Strange.Isn't it? 3.Such mottos are not just said in Iran and as you know whatever you hear is a response to the U.S govt's terrible actions which has made life for many people hell (You wouldn't deny that attacking countries is a mistake.right?) 5.The U.S gov't helped Seddam to attack Iran and I hope you know which country gave Iraq biological weapons which killed lots of Iranians 6.America hit an Iranian airplane over the Persian Gulf and killed 200 passengers for no reason 7.It's always botherng Iran by sanctions, displaying false image of Iran and Iranians, scares tourists away from Iran and is always harmful to our economy, development and credit 8.It's always despised the Iranians who travel to the U.S at their arrival (even ordinary ones, university students, sportsmen, scientists etc) To those who are upset with American hostages taken for 444 days: 1.Firstly, It's related to so many years ago and almost a part of history and don't forget that when there's a revolution, there'd be cheos and people may do things that they should not, moreover they're all alive and healthy.Aren't they? 2.The U.S has arrested Iranian diplomats in Iraq and keeps denying that they're diplomats. Now you decide who has the right to be upset with whom. It's exceeded the level of tit for tat. Isn't it better for both countries to forget about the past conflicts and to have peaceful relations? The two govts are like 10 year old children playing a game by harsh rhetoric. They don't care about hurting people's feeling. They just try to show that the people are enemies of each other to achieve their own goals. We as the people of these countries MUST NOT have any conflics. You know something? All govts are hateful.I just said the above things because it sounds unfair when some Americans talk about 444 hostage taking and I keep being silent.I hope you agree on this one! Now, what do you think?I can't wait to see both nations in peace. It'd be marvelous! Would this happen in less than 2 years? You know what I mean! Remember that: The sea is deeper. You don't always have to see the surface of it. Plz whenever you have time, find and read an article about "ethnocentrism".Knowing the meaning of this term is not enough. After reading about it, you'll feel a noticable positive change in your attitude towards different people! Guaranteed! Thanks for your time. more

Resolved Question: Is what I say enlightening, shocking and amazing?

Guaranteed! Thanks for your time.wow! someone said: "never try to light somewhere that will never be lit!" However, I'll wait untill an open-minded person answers this question.I'm still hopeful to find one. more

Resolved Question: Will you think differently about people and the world 10 minutes later, after reading this?

According to statistics Tehran is the cheapest capital city in the world for foriegners of course not for us! (Cos our rate is different: one Dollar =about 950 Tomans!) There are many other things. How many pages would you need to describe a country? And also, Iran is an independant country unlike its neighbouring countries. It has nearly all the developed industries and technologies and doesn't need other countries to survive! The list is endless. Some charactristics of Iranians would be: Proud, greedy, hard-working for themselve, lazy in doing their duty well!, intelligent, ambitious, not realistic, not so religious (sadly majority of the young generation is not), not punctual, impatient, well-dressed, formal, well-educated, warm and friendly and hospitable. Some people think, Iran's a desert! lol Iran is a modern country with breathtakingly beautiful nature and lots of historic places to visit. Please take a look at the following links to see if Iran looks like what you think or not! I guess not.All Iranian songs are current pop /Club-Dance/Trance/ DJ music.I send them to my American and Canadian chat friends and they all say they're some of the best songs they've ever heard. Here's a sample of the latest hits.(You didn't expect them to be so catchy.Right?) I believe in "Express yourself through music and that music is a universal language". Is it true? Is there any such knowledge to forecast someone's future? Please do advise me about this study; I am a bit confused. Thanks more

Resolved Question: Don't you think reading an informative long question is better than aswering to lots of ordinary questions?

I think reading this in 5-7 minutes would be better than listening to the news in a lifteime.Plz don't think I'm a very old person.Just 18.A university student studying English who just cannot sit back and hope. My question is: what percentage of what I say is acceptable to you? This article has three parts: 1.Cultural and general info 2.music and 3.political, so plz read it from the top to the bottom. Most part of their hair is out and they put on to much make up, also wearing scarves is a part of our culture.Iran is one of the super-consumers of cosmics (which is bad for our economy)! People do whatever they wish to and some of the things they do, don't fit our culture at all, however it's normal in Iran. You'll be surprised seeing the difference between what you imagined before and how the real Iran is! It's wonderful.Everything's so great if you don't take unemployment and air pollution into account. They've got rights that have made it difficult for men to marry them, because husbands buy them expensive things and treat them very well, otherwise women will have the right to ask them a great amount of money which most husbands cannot afford, so they'll be imprisoned. The only thing that women are not allowed to do in Iran is getting into public football stadiums and that's just because IN IRAN, such places are usually full of cheeky guys who would cheek girls.I don't think girls would go there, even if they're allowed to do so. Another funny thing: Your footage about stoning the women who have committed adultery.Have you ever asked yourself they relate to how many years ago?Just for your information, those are from Afghanistan which was once ruled by those freaks (Taliban).I find it difficult to make you understand that Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan are SEPERATE COUNTRIES! and that we're Persian and some Turkish not Arab! And I find it even more difficult to make you understand that Iran is a normal country like any other countries in the world. There's nothing mysterious about it!(The media is very good at making scary titles: BEHIND THE CLOSED DOORS!!! A small example is this 17 year old boy who's invented 72 amazing inventions. You don't know that Iranian students and sportsmen are winning gold and silver medals in different compotitions in the world all the time such as robotics, biology, maths, physics, sports, anything! Why don't the media talk about them?Did you know that the countries having the highest number of scientists in the world are in this order? 1-India 2-Korea 3-Iran A few weeks ago Iran uncovered the most effective anti-H.I.V medicine and now it's signing treaties with other countries to export it.I digged the news on the internet, but there was no single sign of that. What I found instead? "President Bush CLAIMS that bomb parts are imported from Iran into Iraq!" The media are injustice. They'd put CLAIMS on the headlines, but they would never talk about facts! Some interesting facts: Iran is the pionier in medicine and genetics and Iranian surgens have found lots of new methods for treating spinal defects and many other diseases (mainly the treatment for different types of cancer) and the the best brain and heart surgens are Iranian surgens. The head of Mars Mission in NASA is Iranian. One of the best designer of sports cars working in Germany is Iranian. Some of the best 3D animators are Iranian.Iran is one of the best countries in counter-engineering.Holds the second place in building dams. The 4th highest tower (Milad tower) in the world is in Tehran (which you can visit in the second link). The champion weight-lifter is Iranian. The woman, and a song by one of the pop singers who/which won the nobel peace prize are Iranians. And as you all know, Iranian girls are famous for being terrific.Persian rug and Persian literature, many Persian poets and scientists that are so famous.Persian culture is now westernised and only a little has survived! According to statistics Tehran is the cheapest capital city in the world for foriegners with Dollars of course not for us! (Cos our rate is different: one Dollar=about 950 Tomans!) Who do you think is building Dubi?Arabs? No my friends, Iranian architectures, engineers and traders funding them, cos they don't think building the same things in Iran would be beneficial for them, Since the media scare tourists away from Iran. There are many other things. And also, Iran is a very independant country. It has nearly all the developed industries and technologies and doesn't need other countries to survive! That's why the unfair U.N sanctions don't bother us! The list is endless. Some charactristics of Iranians would be: Proud, greedy, hard-working, intelligent, ambitious, not realistic, not so religious, not so generous, not punctual, impatient, well-dressed, formal, well-educated, warm and friendly and hospitable. Some people think, Iran's a desert! Iran's a modern country with very beautiful nature and lots of historical places to visit. Please take a look at the following links and see if Iran looks like what you think or not! See how the media are fooling people? None of the things you hear on the media about Iran are true.If you think I've been admiring Iran too much, that's because you'd do the same thing if you were looked down nearly everyday for some false reasons. I think it's better to clarify some political issues as well: Some of the Americans I chatted with, said in the U.S it's said that president Ahmadinejad hates the U.S and Israel and wants to nuke them!! The thing is that they occasionally make some statements that the media would misuse it agaisnt Iran. like picking up some specific sensitive phrases from among a long speech (without reffering to the main points and reasons for that speech) and putting so many bad comments on that.No sane person would take it serious. First of all, Iranians don't hate anyone. If our government complains about some injustice going on in the world, it's not bad.Is it? We hate neither Jews nor Americans. They're both nice people. If their media are fooling them, it's not their fault. If I were in their shoes, I would hate Iran too regarding all the terrible lies they keep hearing about it nearly everyday.Although ordinary Iranians don't care about world affairs, I've got to say that for us Israel is not equal to Jews! Israel is a govt.Jews are faithful people! A few of them live here in our neighbourhood and they live just like the rest of Iranians. No difference. And two of Iran's parliment members are Jews. Who says we want to force the others to convert to Islam?Have you ever found a Muslem knocking at your door asking you to do so?That's so funny. Christians and Jews are both God believers and respectful to us.I wonder why the media like putting words in our mouth and raising hatred. In Iran, religion would be the least important thing. It means that where you come from and what your religion is, are not important to us at all.And I wonder why some Muslem countries think there's a problem between Shiites and Sunnies. It doesn't make sense in Iran. I wonder Iran is a threat to whom? Which logical rule admits that it's logical to say a country is guilty because we THINK / PREDICT that she's going to do something wrong?!!!! Has Iran ever attacked any countries? There's no proof on that. That's even what nuclear agency says.Only Iran's oppositions are pulling Iran's leg. What we're doing is legal. What they ask us to do (ignoring our international rights) is illegal and nonsense.Iran is a peaceful country. Why? It's the regional super-power and if she wanted, she could invade the countries in our neibourhood just as what Seddam did to our country, but as you see Iran has peaceful relationships with all of them.It could be a good example to some countries that just follow their interests. What is interesting is that the countries which accuse Iran of different things have been, and are still accused of the same things!!! This could be a modern and innovative form of philosophy and logic! Some say he said: Israel should be wiped off the map! But have they told you the rest of his speech and that why he's said this at all? If you know a little literature, you know that it's a passive sentence. He's never said that IRAN wants to wipe Israel off the map! And he wasn't talking about destroying Israel. He was talking about relocating Israel, so that they could live seperate from Palestinians and they both could live in peace. They've only told you this phrase not the rest of it and it's mistranslated deliberitely.Iran's always defended itself, but it's not an offensive country. While some countries which have nukes are clearly threatening Iran to nuke her! Good, isn't it? I know Americans don't like these either, but what can they do?They can't control what the media says.I hope someday the media would end all this instead of playing a negative role in the world. The thing is that they occasionally make some statements that the media would misuse it agaisnt Iran. like picking up some specific sensitive phrases from among a long speech (without reffering to the main points and reasons for that speech) and putting so many bad comments on that.No sane person would take it serious. I know Americans don't like these either, but what can they do?They can't control what the media says.I hope someday the media would end all this instead of playing a negative role in the world. 3.Such mottos are not just said in Iran and as you know whatever you hear is a response to the U.S govt's terrible actions which has made life for many people hell (You wouldn't deny that attacking countries is a mistake.right?) 5.The U.S govt helped Seddam to attack Iran and I hope you know which country gave Iraq biological weapons which killed lots of Iranians 6.America hit an Iranian airplane over the Persian Gulf and killed 200 passengers for no reason 7.It's always botherng Iran by sanctions, displaying false image of Iran and Iranians, scares tourists away from Iran and is always harmful to our economy, development and credit 8.It's always despised the Iranians who travel to the U.S at their arrival (even ordinary ones, university students, sportsmen, scientists etc) To those who are upset with American hostages taken for 444 days: 1.It's related to so many years ago and don't forget that when there's a revolution, there'd be cheos and people may do things that they should not, moreover they're all alive and healthy.Aren't they? 2.The U.S has arrested Iranian diplomats in Iraq and keeps denying that they're diplomats. Now you decide who has the right to be upset with whom. It's exceeded the level of tit for tat. It's better for both countries to forget about the past conflicts and to have peaceful relations. The two govts are like 10 year old children jumping at each other verbally, but we as the people of these countries MUST NOT have any conflics. You know something? All govts are hateful.I just said the above things because it sounds unfair when some Americans talk about 444 hostage taking and I keep being silent. So sorry for that.I hope you agree on this one! Now, what do you think?I can't wait to see both nations in peace. It'd be marvelous! Thanks. more
