Open Question: America the Ignorant???

Check this out below about the levels of nonsense that Americans believe. A theme through the year is that it is not important what is true, it is important what people believe. If people believe something no matter how erroneous then to them it is true, and they will act according to that belief. Political operatives are well aware of this, which is why they twist things to such a grotesque level in political campaigns, especially in television advertising. Now the level of ability to skew public perceptions has been magnified due to the Internet. We will look at techniques like anonymous email forwards and viral video as a way of influencing public opinion. (The "Obama is a Kenyan Muslim" thing actually started as a bogus "email forward" somewhere in the Fall of 2007.) The positive side is that information that would not have ben reported now is quickly disseminated. The down side is that anyone with a dishonest intent and a laptop can convince millions of people to believe complete nonsense. Chances are that by now you've heard about the Aug. 19, 2010, Pew poll that found that nearly one fifth of Americans (mistakenly) believe that President Obama is a Muslim. Perhaps you think that a terrifying outlier; or perhaps you're a believer, and then you are in good company. Either way, you're wrong: in fact, remarkably high numbers of Americans believe the most unusual things. Although the portion of poll respondents who believe Obama is a Muslim has risen recently, some of these oddball opinions contain more consistent numbers of believers. more

Open Question: scammed by New Faces Development Centre in Hicksville...Plz help!!?

Hi! I was stopped at Roosevelt Field Mall by one of the scouts of New Faces Development...He said that this company provided exposure so that I could land into a job in acting or modelling. They gave me a call immediately and booked my interview appointment at New Faces immediately. When I went there it all looked so real....with several people waiting in line to be actors or models...There was music...A TV screen advertising IMTA and showing prominent successful prominent actors who had become successful in life. They asked me to fill out a form...Then this guy called Tim called me in for interview ....and he seemed like he was in a hurry and busy becoz his office was so full of people....He just asked me why I was there and told me that I could do this as a hobby and had a lot to offer in the entertainment industry....He showed me a folder filled with pictures of people that they had photographed at New faces and they had appeared in magazines and print ads....And he had so many of those fotoes...It all sounded so legit. Then he showed me his price list sheet which had all the prices of the fotoes listed....some of them were so costly like over 2100 etc...I told him that I was not working and did not have so much money to pay for them. There was a price for photographing 1 look listed for $750. Then he said "I will give you a discount....I will give you 3 looks for $750". I thought it was a good deal and gave him my credit card. He charged my credit card. Then he said ..."lets get started with the first look photoshoot today...and you come back day after tommorrow to shoot the next two looks with more clothes." He then showed me the make up room where their make up artist did my makeup and their photographer took my photoes.....Then as I walked out of there I felt a bit uneasy....becoz in that meeting he had asked me not to tell anyone about the money that I paid!!....So, I decided to check the internet and OMG...I found a whole bunch of articles stating that it is a scam!! and ripoff reports that they have been reported to BBB also...I printed out some of those ripoff reports and went back yesterday to the New faces center. I told him "I have found reports that you are a scam and want my money back. You have been reported to the BBB". Then he said " Macys, HomeDepot etc have scam reports too but do people stop going there? And now you see scam reports against us....I am not going to let that stop me from doing my business ...We have been in business for 16 years...I have my daughter working for me too....And look at all these people we have placed in the industry."....I said "I dont want to continue this any more and want my money back". He said "Well you took pictures already right?" I said "I have called my credit card people already and have asked them to stop the payment you charged me". He said "You cant just walk into a restaurant and pay there and then cancel the credit card transaction the next day...Thats illegal...YOU are scamming us."....He further said " And you took pictures with us....and look at our price list...We have 1 look for $750...and I was being nice to you by giving you the other two looks for FREE". I argued " But you didnt tell me that the other two looks are free...you just said that you were giving me a discount. So, you can divide the $750 by 3 and deduct $250 and give me back $500 at least". He then went back to his list and said "No!!....Our list says that 11 look was for $750...and I was giving you the other two looks for free. Dont change our words...You are scamming us by changing our words."..So basically he was not going to give me my money back. In the end I asked him to give me my CD of pics...and he said I will have to come back next week to get it plus I will have to pay $45 for the CD also (which was part of the agreement). So, I couldnt argue the fact that his price list had $750 for 1 look and he got me to pay it by telling me about this "discount" and photographing me the same day. So, when I got back I called my credit card people and asked them to let the $750 go through since I couldnt argue his price list. And now I have to go back to get my CD. But I feel scammed. I feel he shouldnt have gone back to his original price list of $750 per look after telling me that he was giving me a discount. And now he is telling me that I am scamming him !!...Plus he told me that "BBB was a Bunch of Bullshit...that gets complaints everyday..."...He said " You cant just listen to negative side of things...You have to listen to positive side of things too.."....Plus he looked at my copy of ripoff reports that I confronted him and told me that the complaints were 6 years old....and he was not believing them!! What should I do? Can something be done to stop these people from extracting money out of people by foolCan anyone out there PLEASE HELP ME?? PLEASE... THANKS. more

Virtual Texas DeputiesSM from around the country will monitor the streaming video from these cameras 24/7 and report any suspicious activities directly to the Border Sheriffs via email. All emails regarding suspicious activity will be submitted anonymously. The Public, acting as Virtual Texas DeputiesSM, is limited to reporting suspicious activities via email. Local county Sheriffs will respond to these reports, conduct all investigations, and take appropriate actions. This service will provide millions of dollars in benefits to local border Sheriffs, with the public acting as additional pairs of eyes for Deputies on the ground. This extra surveillance will allow the public to directly participate in reducing crime and improving their communities. It is a well-established fact that citizen involvement in community watch programs such as this one reduces crime. Another facet of this program is the ability of the public to connect their own cameras to www.BlueServo.net to create local Virtual Neighborhood WatchesSM in order to protect their own homes, neighborhoods, and families from criminal acts. These Virtual Neighborhood WatchesSM can, in turn, be connected to form additional Virtual Community WatchesSM. Membership on www.BlueServo.net site is free and open to anyone by signing up and obtaining a User Log-In. Resolved Question: could someone with good english please cheack this for me ?

Hi Aer Lingus Despite my earlier email,.and your failure to reply . I however passed on your banner headline to " Tell a friend " , to lots of friends who l were equally , dismayed at the fact the TOTAL PRICE suddenly changed at the end of the book in to be nothing like the original quote , ie , when booking for two adults and a child ( 50% ) off ofer , the Total price seemed to ignore the fact that there were 3 persons ,travilling , and also the fact the the childs fare was more than the adult fare . Your site is at least very misleading , at most Ryanairsh . As I had promised the quoted the price to friends , I stood my ground and took the loss , but but appericate an explenation , of what I find is underhanded advertising , via email type promotions .As you fly the flag of what was once an airline, I would have being proud to say, I was from the country of origin , I feel very dissapointed ,in the fact your quailty of sAttach files more easilyervice, has gone so down market , on what I see as the future of marketing , the Internet . As I said before I booked the flights anyway , but please reasure me that in future you may look into what I and friends find totally misleading in your " TOTAL PRCE " box ,on the you book cheap fares site . Resolved Question: Are you guys who think the Danielson release is a work joking or just that gullible to what others say?

I mean come on a good bit of you users on here still think the Danielson release is a work even though promotions that have no working relationship with WWE what so ever already have him booked at their upcoming shows. Take Chikara for instance: http://www.chikarapro.com/ they have him advertised for this friday yet you will ignore facts like that and still think its a work. Oh but then you say what about the 90 day no compete clause. Well look at Scotty Goldman aka Colt Cabana he was released on february 20th 2009 from WWE: http://www.wwe.com/inside/news/goldmanreleased But worked a show for PWG the next night: http://www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com/results/2009/show0098.html he wrestled against Chris hero and if you cant see the date look under the Pic for the DVD cover of that show. He wrestled the next day on February 21st 2009 That goes to show you that the 90 day no compete clause doesn't cover anything, it only does that for TV deals and PPVs. These wrestlers still need to find a way to make income within those 90 days sometimes so they can take bookings from other promotions just not with anything involving a TV deal. So even though Danielson is being advertised for other promotions with no real connections to WWE, and I shown facts that the 90 day no compete clause doesn't cover everything. Please if you still think this is release is a work please explain your ignorant to the facts thought process on how this is a work. Oh also to people who might say why they talked about him on RAW after his release well he was involved in a major angle visibly so they had to make some kind of explanation to why hes gone. And also the whole WWE asking if the release was wrong on twitter was them second guessing themselves. This isn't the first time WWE has might have had second thoughts on releasing someone they did re hire matt hardy back after a big movement from his fans to get him re signed. So this release is real and if Danielson is back it will be because WWE will re hire him not because he was never released in the first place. So just please either stop being ignorant to the facts and admit it was real or find some real facts to this release being a work instead of stupid internet rumor mill speculation and explain them to me.I can understand the speculation that it could of been a work last week when it first happened because there has been other instances where people got choked out on WWE post benoit incident and they didn't get fired, so it did seem like a very moronic reason. But now that other promotions have him booked its a true release. If they truly allowed third party booking why wasn't Rey mysterio allowed to go to AAA not long ago just to present a trophy to a tournament winner,(though this is rumor completely not actual fact so good chance its not true) But if this is true why would WWE be so stingy not to let Rey just appear but let Danielson actually wrestle. But really other than Carltio and Primo for WWC(a promotion that is run by his dad) and letting CM Punk and Danielson finish up their previous indy bookings before they came to WWE after they signed back in 2004 and last year, there hasn't been third party bookings for years. They are stingy that way plus WWE just went through a website overhaul that might explain why its not on corporate. To behold the king when you talk about how a person who has been released can't work anywhere due to the 90 day no compete clause yet its happened before that is being a "dumb@ss". But more facts point to legit way more than it does to ruse or work or whatever word you would like to use. And you know what if this is really a ruse then in turn and everyone else who thought it was legit will be a "dumb@ss". And I have no problem with that I just don't see how people can still think work with all this evidence and deny loopholes like the 90 day no compete clause. To RKO lady(you just got RKO and hearts I dont feel like copy and pasting so this is your nickname to me if thats okay) The reason why I have doubts about the corporate website is for the fact that it doesn't seem like it has been up dated since june the 7th days before danielon's release. Despite Danielson being released or not, im sure things other than the danielson release have happened with WWE financially at least to warrant an update but hasn't. Also thats the website, they send in actual reports to the security and exchange commission still so they don't have to put everything down there right away. So who knows like I said they could be second guessing the Danielson release and not want to put anything on the site at least until they make sure they don't want hire him back.To RKO lady I just checked all the news for 2010 and actually the only release they show when you go to the news tab up at the top for 2010 is carltio's I don't see a mention about Mickie, Shelton, Knox or anyone else has been released. So its not just Danielson. I think why carlito is there though is his release had something to deal with rehab and the wellness policy.Ive never saw the reason WWE gave out as a legitimate way to release that doesn't mean the release wasn't legit just the reasoning behind it. Mickie james was released because she showed up late to the bus or that was the supposed reasoning. Plus Danielson isn't the only one who has choked out someone on WWE TV post benoit incident. I think the reason the gave out for him being released was moronic and hypocritical of what they have shown in the past. But just like with mickie james being late for the bus or Danielson choking someone out the release is legit just WWE doesn't want to say why they did. Also another example Lance Cade was released in 2008 but WWE itself never gave a reason the only from JR's blog talking about an "incident" on a plane was the only speculation behind that and lots of people think it was a drug related problem but WWE never made mention other than Lance cade future endeavors. So if mickie or shelton isnt or cade isn't same can go with danielson. more

And shut down BP advertising? Asking forgiveness after the fact? And why does the "Ed Show" say that BP bought "oil spill" as a keyword on the Internet when the first thing I come up with on my search engine is an associated press site?John - Papatonio himself said that a court would likely judge after the fact that this violates the first amendment but the President should do it anyway.I do stand corrected on the BP site...it does come up first in Yahoo. more

Resolved Question: I want facebook baned , do you agree?

I want facebook band, do you agree? Facebook needs to be band. POLICE want Facebook to ban under-18s from setting up tribute websites after launching the first prosecution of its kind of a Brisbane man accused of posting pornography on online memorials to murdered children. Disability pensioner Bradley Paul Hampson, 29, faces up to 10 years' jail if convicted of offences relating to the defacement of Facebook memorials for Trinity Bates, 8, and Elliot Fletcher, 12, who died in separate incidents in Queensland earlier this year. The Australian Federal Police are now negotiating with the social networking giant to prevent future acts of cyber-vandalism by so-called internet "trolls", who post offensive material to provoke outrage. Detective Superintendent Peter Crawford, of the Child Safety and Sexual Crimes Group of Queensland police, said adults should be required to act as administrators of memorials so they could be held liable for monitoring content. The AFP has, in an effort to improve accountability, raised with Facebook the possibility of banning under-18s from setting up such sites. Start of sidebar. Skip to end of sidebar. .End of sidebar. Return to start of sidebar. Superintendent Crawford said website administrators - and not just Facebook - needed to act quickly to remove offensive material. "I think the trolling issue will continue to be a problem in the future," he said. "We are really keen to see people who administer those sites take responsibility to ensure that material posted is of an appropriate standard." Superintendent Crawford revealed that Queensland police had been forced to liaise with Facebook executives in San Francisco. While the organisation has a well-staffed advertising office in Australia, its local representatives insist they are not responsible for content. "We have to make inquiries overseas for all our Facebook inquiries," he said. Superintendent Crawford said the fact that children and teenagers sometimes set up tribute pages "presents some problems". "These are the issues we're endeavouring to discuss with Facebook," he said. "I would rather be using (police) resources to target actual sexual offences that are being committed today, than chasing down trolls." Mr Hampson, 29, of Tarragindi, was remanded in custody after appearing in Brisbane Magistrates Court yesterday on five charges relating to possessing and distributing child exploitation material. Magistrate Leanne O'Shea refused bail. The police prosecutor, Sergeant Fiona Pedersen, told the court that police had raided Mr Hampson's home early yesterday and found pornographic images on his computer. "He would appear to have some morbid fascination with deceased children and has expressed fantasies in those regards," she said. Mr Hampson's legal aid lawyer, Katia Vandenbroucke, told the court her client had been diagnosed with autism. Facebook said yesterday it had co-operated fully with the police. 5 minutes ago - 4 days left to answer. more

Voting Question: Seen UK top 5 broadband rip-offs? & how best to deal with 'em? What do you think is the best deal? How 2 beat?

I put this in Politics as Govt promise to roll out superfast broadband Is there a corrupt angle? UK's top broadband rip-offs, together with a few ideas on how you can combat them. 1) Super-fast broadband You might think super-fast broadband sounds amazing. Lightning-fast deals via next-generation fibre technology allow you to surf the net at more than 5 times the usual speed (50Mb). Unfortunately, however, super-fast broadband generally comes with a much higher price tag than packages with standard connection speeds. And I think, at £40 a month, providers are ripping us off - especially when you take into account a 8Mb package with a 10GB usage limit can cost less than £6 a month. The fact is, unless you need faster speeds for things like watching internet TV or downloading HD movies regularly, these packages probably have far greater capability than you really need. If you're not a heavy user, paying the higher monthly cost is a waste of money, frankly. 2) Restrictions on download limits Many broadband providers boast of unlimited download limits, only to accompany these bold statements with a little asterisk which, on closer inspection directs you to a fair use policy that restricts the amount you can actually download. Fair use policies are often a get out of jail free card for providers which advertise unlimited download limits, only to impose penalties or other restrictions if you exceed a certain threshold. And, to make things even more complicated, finding out about your own download habits can sometimes feel like trying to break into Fort Knox. For example, when I called my own provider to ask them about my usage, I was only told that I ‘need not worry'. This ambiguous phrasing may make little difference in my case, but in some circumstances you'll only realise you've exceeded your fair usage limit when you get a warning from your provider – or worse, when a hefty bill lands on your doormat. If you want to gauge your surfing habits, this data usage calculator from Virgin is a nifty tool which will give you an idea of your own monthly usage, which you can then use to get the best plan for you. Alternatively, providers Be and O2 offer super-fast broadband with truly unlimited download limits. 3) Broadband without a landline. If you move into a property without a BT landline in place, it will cost you £124.99 to connect yourself to the outside world, plus £10.50 a month in line rental, unless you commit to an 18-month contract. If you don't fancy forking out all this just to get connected, one alternative is Virgin media which, providing you live in a cabled area, will connect you without the need for a BT line (£30 connection fee applies). In addition, some providers such as Tiscali make use of local loop unbundling (LLU) to bypass BT and offer inclusive line rental. LLU enables ‘local loops' (or put simply, the cable through which you receive your broadband) to be freed up so other providers can design their own broadband packages to provide alternative, and often cheaper services. The third way you can get connected to the internet without the need for a BT landline is via a dongle . Dongles provide a convenient way of getting online, though from experience provide much slower download speeds than conventional broadband. Check out my latest article on dongles . 4) Tag on the line This is one of the sneakiest ways broadband providers can stop you from switching easily. They put what's known as a 'tag' on your line, which is difficult to remove. When you run into trouble, they often point the finger at your landline provider, who then points the finger back at the broadband provider, and so on. What many people don't realise is that you have to talk to the provider you want to switch to and ask them to remove it. Luckily, Broadband Choices offers a handy list of numbers on its website to contact with regards to having a tag on your line. 5) Long contract terms Last but not least, contract lengths for broadband, and indeed your mobile phone are slowly creeping up, and these days you'll often have to sign an 18 and sometimes a 24 month contract in order to secure the best deals. However, there is light at the end of the broadband tunnel, and if you don't want to be tied into a lengthy contract, you could always opt for a provider which doesn't impose one. For example, you can now get one-month only contracts from providers like Plusnet and Zen, which enable you to switch at any time. Obviously, your broadband service is unlikely to be 100% perfect, 100% of the time, but hopefully these small tips will help you on your way to a smoother surfing experience. Happy surfing!DJ I can't fib to ya, dude: it was simply the feature on Yahoo homepage as I came online earlier today As a conscientious ex-UK *1 sales rep, here is a simple google just done now:- http://www.google.com/#hl=en&source=hp&q=best+uk+broadband+deals&btnG=Google+Search&aq=0&aqi=g1&aql=&oq=best+uk+broadband+deal&gs_rfai=&fp=1df4639b9e375fe6 OG I nearly chose you now as best reply But instinct says that, as I'm very rarely in till much later on Sunday eves, I'd best link this Q to a few relevant others, asa test of Y/A volume of activity @ this time Anyone wanna do a Y/A search @:- Would it improve summer interest in Y/A to show number of views @ each question? Resolved Question: Is there any editing needed?

Alcohol and Propaganda is not a Match According to FAS, “alcohol is to be blamed for 100,000 deaths each year.” Alcohol has become a dependent source for teens and many adults. Drinking effects mind processes and the human body awfully. The use of these advertisements is a major source for the public to take alcohol as a positive consuming product. Alcohol should be banned from the internet, television, and print advertisements because these campaigns promote a substance that causes awful health issues and death, and financial issues. It is true, alcohol campaigns are being displayed throughout America and both adolescents and adults nationwide are being introduced to alcohol, a harmful substance when misused, through these advertisements. For everyone, the body has either very little or zero tolerance to alcohol. When alcohol is overused, the mind loses its ability to make good quality decisions and the organs of the human body get wounded. This can result in many bodily illnesses, diseased, and perhaps cancer that all can cause death and a miserable life. The inability to make good quality decisions can also cause many troubles ranging from the inability to maintain a relationship to being the cause of a car collision from driving under the influence. Furthermore, the use of these commercials is also advertising a substance that can cause a financial crisis. Alcohol becomes addictive to many people because it brings the mind to a relaxed state temporarily relieving stress, anxiety, and more. Overtime, as more alcohol is being consumed by the human body, the human body is building tolerance to the alcohol. When the body is building tolerance to the alcohol, the body is required to have more alcohol in order to enter the relaxed state that had been previously experience and in order to consume more alcohol, more money will need to be thrown away. This will result in a financial loss and can cause a financial crisis which can cause anything from having again, a difficulty time maintaining a relationship to having to get rid of any possessions one may have. In the final analysis, Alcohol should be banned from all advertisements because they promote a substance that can cause awful consequences including health problems, death, and financial issues. The fact that these advertisements have persuaded many to consume alcohol clearly shows that these advertisements have a part in the cause of many deaths, health issues, and financial issues. Should advertisement companies promoting detrimental products be allowed to advertise? Would one want to be in charge of choosing whether or not he can save millions of lives and choose not to? more

Voting Question: Totally and completely lost on what to do with my life. What to do?

I am at my wit's end. I'm 24, have a college degree, working two part-time jobs, and still living with my parents because my income is too low to afford to live anywhere. My degree was in Mass Communications, with an emphasis in Advertising, and a minor in Art. I was hoping to become a graphic designer but I found out the hard way that the only people who get hired in that field are the ones who actually majored in graphic design. I wanted to major in it but my parents told me that art majors don't get anywhere in life wind up flipping burgers, so I should major in something that will look good and go together with design. Well, being the naive idiot that I am, I listened to them...and two years later I'm still not a graphic designer, but a part-time retail associate and part-time administrative assistant. I think another thing that hurt me is the fact that I simply didn't work much before graduating college. I didn't get my first job until I was 19, and it was a two month temp job. Then I had an unpaid internship my last semester of college. In total I had five months of work experience when I graduated, which resulted in me being turned away from many employers despite all the work I put into getting my degree. Had I known this was going to be a major problem, I would have started working in high school. Now it's too late and I'm doing the part-time job thing that I should've done years ago instead of sitting on my ass playing video games. The fact that I have failed so much at life is eating away at me. I am angry at my parents for practically lying to me about how the world works and making me believe that my lack of experience didn't matter; that my degree showed that I worked hard and that I was "bright, pretty, and have a clever sense of humor". Too bad it was all bullshit. I know they didn't lie to me on purpose but I'm still pissed, mainly at myself for believing them and not doing my homework sooner and realizing there was more to life than school books. I have tried looking at other career options but to be honest NOTHING looks appealing. I've tried looking at stuff related to my degree but I've come to hate the mass media in recent years which has put me off from any job relating to that field. I believe it is full of back-stabbers, conspirators, and hypocrites. I've pretty much given up on graphic design because I've lost interest, as well as my creative touch, and there's simply no jobs in that field that I could easily get into. I've tried looking to other careers, but everything is either too stressful or too complicated, or there's no jobs in a certain field in my area. I know I'm gonna get plagued with "well, what do you like to do?" questions to help me find a career, but I can tell you right now there's no career for my interests. My interests/hobbies consist of surfing the internet, playing video games (which is rare now because of my job situation), listening to music (I've thought about sound engineering but that's hard to come by in this area, and music itself is complicated; I don't think I can ever remember the different notes on a scale and such), and sketching cartoon characters during slow periods at my admin. assistant job (which aren't very good I think, and I don't see the point in taking drawing classes to improve myself because there's no career in it). Even then, those interests have become less appealing to me. I can still do them but I feel no joy or satisfaction from them like I think I should. I want to hold on to them or find something that looks "normal" to other people out there, but I just can't. NOTHING appeals to me. I don't like going out to clubs, and I don't like socializing. I have no desire to, so don't even think of telling me to "get out there!" and join a club to find a new interest/make new friends or whatever. I just simply don't like to go out, and I'm fine with the friends I have. I'm not good at making conversation with strangers; to me it's just really awkward to randomly walk up to people and talk with them. It's just not my thing. There are days where just want to curl up and die some days because I honestly don't see any point of existing. I know I should be making the most of my life because "it's a wonderful gift", "you only live once", blah blah all that gay hippie bullshit, but I just don't see myself going anywhere. I get encouragement from people but the way they say stuff really just makes me want to choke them. I know they're trying to help but I can't stand being told some shit I heard in an after-school special or whatever. It's just...gay. But I don't want to be told something harsh like "quit bitching and move on" because it hurts my feelings. I kn(blah, Yahoo cut off my question even though the preview showed the whole thing. Liars...) I know my family and friends are trying to help but it makes me feel bad when I can't respond to their advice the way they want to. I feel like my life is going out of control. Everything seems to be going so fast and I'm stuck in slow motion. I don't know where to turn to or if I even have the time, money, or energy to get help because of my work schedule. I am scared for my life, my health, my career, and my relationships with my family and friends. Any advice would be appreciated. I want to do something make my life having meaning but it actually has to be something I can BELIEVE in and not just do to get by financially and be miserable, which is probably gonna be the case anyway. more

Resolved Question: What's the best way for the scientific community to reverse the current trend?

The current trend in the mass media and the general public appears to be one of increased denial and mistrust of scientists. It seems the sources like Fox News and internet blogs by amateurs are now the dominant source of information for many, and as we all know, these are far from representative of the scientific facts. So what, as scientists, can we do to counter this effect? We tend to be reserved in our findings, we publish our work and then leave it to the rest of the scientific community to read the material, analyse it and draw there conclusions. But is this enough for the main stream? After all, ten journal articles supporting AGW will be happily ignored by the media, who thrive on controversy. So what do we do? I try and advertise the science to people on sites like this. I also teach at a university in the scientific method, how we subjectively look at the evidence, plan experiments and draw conclusions. But my work is very much confined to the University and the scientific community. This is clearly not enough, so what would be?@ All Black You are confusing being a scientist and also having a social concience. I am a scientist (you can look up my credentials), but knowing the evidence i am also hugely concerned with the lack of action on behalf of the majority of the planet. I do not let any political affiliation influence my science. But that does not stop me wanting the public to be equally aware of the facts as we know them. I care about truth, and i despise the kind of lies and half truths carried out by others... many of whom frequesnt this site.@ Beren and secondbestkiller I certainly hope you are right. Don't get me wrong, its heartening to see the number of people who take the time to learn and understand the evidence. But it doesn't stop the reverse being equally frustrating! more

Resolved Question: Where can I get the flash 10.1 beta for android?

As much as I loath flash everyone and their dog cat and mom too lives off the teat of Adobe. So I find 10 billion web pages talking about the fact the new beta is out but everyone of these websites is a junk website filled with the smut of advertising(junk websites specifically designed to exploit search engines and offer nothing but trash adds and make money at the expense of others time and bandwidth) or those legitimate sites make no mention of a link or anything. Helloooo Internet a resource is useless if noone can find it. Any of you guys know where I can find it? As you can tell I am frustrated at the web runaround.Hmm a samsung moment(what I have) should do it. The Nexus One is only 20% faster. In fact the moment was the fastest android around for awhile not too long ago. I think it would run it, I could be wrong. But then again I have seen 233 mhz desktops run flash way back in the day. more

Resolved Question: Is it illegal to...........................?

Would it be illegal to advertise a item on the internet for sale and some one send money for it but me not send the item? or me send the item printed out on paper or something haha. I know this is wrong Ive already done it before I want real answers and real facts. as far as i know this is not illegal.ok apparently we have some idiots in here, false advertising? I said id send a picture of the item. EXAMPLE: I have a ad say on craigs list and im selling a computer, the guy sends me money for a computer and I send him a fake computer or a picture of a computer so as long as I don't go into to much detail about the item it would NOT be false advertising. more

Resolved Question: can you major in engineering, be an engineer and take on art on the side?

i want a stable career and want to live a comfortable life, help my family financially, maybe own a business some day... engineering seems to be a good choice for that ...i do have some interest in computer engineering or electrical engineering (mostly curiosity about how things work ) so i thought one of those too would be best for me BUT heres the thing ...on top of being just okay in math, i also have an interest in drawing and art ( i draw anything thats in a photograph) my family thinks i have talent and it would be a shame to let that go. id like to get better at it but i dont want to end up a starving artist, i thought about graphic design and advertising but theres just sooooo much competition. now just because i can draw doesnt mean ill do good in graphic design, in fact ive done some research and graphic design has very little to do with actual drawing (it has to do more with the creativity that the artist supposedly has) ...and the way things are going graphic designers are prbly going to end up being the new starving artist from what ive been told (feel free to correct me if im wrong) i dont want to give up my drawing abilities, but i want to earn a good living my plan is to major in comp eng. or elec. eng. then open an internet cafe and take care of all the repairs myself and as well as offer my professional services ... then i planned to take a course in web design to make some extra money on the side and once my business is stable enough to hire someone to manage it for me id try to work from home and take up drawing, painting, art as a hobby .....what do you think about it? does this seem realistic? will i still be able to enjoy drawing and art? i dont mind the hard work i have to put into majoring in engineering ...all good things in life require hard work and dedication... i just dont want to waste the skill i have for drawing ....so yeah please let me know what you think about my situation, any advice that you can offer, any corrections you may want to point out, any info you can give me would be greatly appreciated ...thankyou for your time more

Resolved Question: False Advertising! Do I have a Lawsuit?

A car company is sending out scratchoffs as a promotion. first prize a new car, second prize an atv, third prize 3 gold coins, fourth prize $1000 cash. When i won, I had to go in and the guy told me i won three gold coins. The guy gave me three 2008 presidential dollar coins that are made out of 0% gold and 88.5% copper. They could have come from the trainstation. Is this false advertising? I argued with the guy, he told me that anyone on the street will say its gold, but i knew it was made of copper. His coworker said it was 100% silver. I continue to argue that i wanted the three gold coins that i won. I asked them to tell me the compositie they wouldn't, they would not tell me the percentage of gold, they wouldn't look it up on the internet, they kept saying that it is gold and other winners were happy with their three gold coins. I made a scene. They asked me to leave when i asked to speak to the guy running the operation. Then the guy told me that he was the manager. I asked if I could see the flyer he said no. I did manage to steal the flyer and the coins as evidence. Do I have a lawsuit? third prize is 3 gold coins( which are actually copper), and They kept saying it was gold when it wasn't and started getting nasty when i asked them to prove it to me. I would be happy with three 1/20 oz gold coins which are under a hundred, its the fact that they are advertising copper as gold that pisses me off. I would also prefer the 4th prize! The fine print in the flyer states gold coins! Not gold colored coins! Which was one of our arguements more

Resolved Question: What scams, internet or other, have you fallen for?

When I was 19 I got my first credit card with credit for a whole $300. I was contacted by Ramada Plaza resorts and folded like a cheap chair for a "free" vacation. I almost included 3 of my best friends. After the fact, I checked it out and although it was legitimate, it was not free. Meals, airfare to Florida, taxes turned out to be $2000+ per person. Luckily they had only charged my card for the $300 but were demanding the balance. I fought it and won. I contacted 'Phone Busters' who advised me it was legitimate but what it really cost, and that I could probably book a vacation of my choice for much, much less. The ones I love are the companies who advertise diet supplements, make-up, etc. for a free one-month trial...all you pay is the shipping. Then the next month your credit card is billed for $79.95 and good luck getting a human on the line to cancel! How about you? (and I just about bought the Slap Chop...good thing I researched that one first!) more

Resolved Question: Career in Music - What Should I Do?

So, I'm 19 *soon to be 20*, graduated high school almost 2 years ago, and, I'm still torn about what to do with myself. When I graduated I had no direction, absolutely no direction lol. I tried my hands at all kinds of things, but ended up quitting. Not out of depression or "oh I suck at this blah blah blah", but just because I get bored. I'm the type of person that gets very bored and restless if I don't have something to do........except when I was working at my last job, and when I play my music. My last job was awesome, pretty much was with an internet marketing/consulting/advertising companies. 2 of them at once in fact (working with my direct boss, and then helping him out with his biggest account as pretty much the "assist consultant" or "secondary consultant"). It wasn't your typical white collar, desk-jockey, type job. That type of job, where I'm just pushin paper/pencil would kill me, I'm way to restless. But with this past job, I got to be creative, I got to use my ideas, I got to edit/make videos, websites, pictures, etc. And I got my training for free. BUT, unfortunately, due to the economy, the business has taken a hit. Boss said he can't afford to pay me right now, and didn't want to have me working for free lol, but that I'd most likely be able to come back in a couple months. So, more like laid-off than fired. Now on to my music. I play flamenco guitar. I play everyday and I can honestly say that it's the one and only thing that truly makes me happy. It's my release. I would absolutely LOVE to make a career out of it, but it's music, much easier said than done. And considering it's also flamenco, considering most people probably think about the bird (flamingo) when they see the word, it's not exactly all that main-stream. Lately I've been very lost, very very lost. I've tried my hand at a few things, and quit all of them. College........psh, yea right. I'm not lazy, not lazy at all, trust me, the responsibility of my last job was enormous. It's just, college isn't right for everybody, some people just aren't meant to go, and I happen to be one of those people. What can I say? I tried, only lasted a year then I decided that I couldn't keep doing it. And some more things here and there I don't want to elaborate on, and make this any longer than it already is. Anyway, on to my question (sorry for rambling), when it comes down to it, the only 2 things I haven't quit are: my job, and flamenco. The reason why I keep trying my hand at other things and not just sticking with music and the job that I have/had, is that it's free-lance. Times are good, times are bad. Music is artistic, and the web-job is free-lance. Basically, it's not something I'm guaranteed to always have (if that makes sense). And I'm a person that grew up with VERY little stability in my life, so the thought of living the rest of my life like that......just the thought of it stressed the hell outta me. But still, those are the only 2 things I haven't quit. So, finally, my question is: What just sticking with my gut and do music and the internet-marketing job (when I get it back, or even finding clients of my own), or should I keep searching for something else? Just trying to get some other people's (aside from family/friends) view, you know, people who don't really know me, kind of an objective point of view. Thanks and I appreciate your advice. SamTo CarolO - I've been paying my own bills lol. And I'm currently searching for a new job/clients and leads of my own (I don't think I can count how many places I've applied to this week, from odd-jobs to grocery stores to professional companies, I just some form of temporary income) So it's not like I'm sitting on my ass. I have been living with my father, but like I said, I help out with the bills and pull my own wait, I'm not a bum. And if you didn't notice how I said in my question "aside from friends/family", I've already asked them, they're the first people I asked. I'm here for an outsider's (objective) point of view/personal opinion. more

Resolved Question: Orange iPhone 3GS Pay as you Go -Dolphin- constantly draining my credit?

Right, now this is REALLY beginning to annoy me. I bought an iphone a couple of days ago, was great, then I discovered something not so great. Okay, so my phone is idle when all of a sudden I get a text from Orange saying that my credit has gone below £1, I thought this to be very strange since it was £3 earlier and I had only sent two texts that day. That made me keep an eye on it and to my horror I discovered that I was losing around 3p every 10-20 minutes when the iPhone was just idle on the menu. Now, I have wifi and I know for a fact that my iPhone is connected to this as it shows in the settings and has the wifi icon, so that shouldn't be costing me anything. I did some searching on the internet to discover that some applications use 3G, so I turned off my 3G in the settings and this still didn't help. Lastly, I changed my talk plan with Orange from Camel to Dolphin in the hope that the "Free Internet access" advertised on this talk plan would solve my mysterious credit draining issue. I was on Camel before because I often text abroad and it was cheaper on that plan. Now after I changed, I did a little browsing and then came and checked it again after 20 minutes to find out my credit had gone down yet again for no reason? So my question is, I have wifi access, I have atlleast 50MB a month free 3G access and ive not even used 1MB yet but I am still getting credit deducted from me when I am not even doing anything with my iPhone? I have tried turning off service locations and push notifications however this just seems to slow down the problem and not fix it, also why would they be charging me when I allegedly have free wifi and internet access via 3g? I am really frustrated as my iPhone has basically robbed £3 off me in one day due to this trickling money deduction, surprised to not find much help on google, really hope someone can help me here, would be VERY much appreciated before it steals any more money from me. Thanks, more

Resolved Question: Is Premiere Productions Inc. Training Program For Wedding Planners A Rip-Off and Scam?

I feel as though I was scammed by Premiere Productions Inc. and Maria Cook. I drove over 250 miles to interview with this company thinking it was a formal job interview for wedding planners. That was the first big red flag. Nor did they ask me a single question during the interview. Rather they used it as an opportunity to try to get me to pay for a training program. They were very secretive about the training packages. Their website and job ad on Craigslist makes no mention of paying to be part of the program or company. If fact it says the opposite, that you will get rewarded and paid lucratively while you are training to become a wedding planner under Premiere Productions Inc. This is clearly false advertising as the company makes money by trying to scam and ripoff unsuspecting and unemployed people out of their hard earned savings. When I got home from my interview, I looked them up on the internet and found out that the company and it's President/Owner Maria Cook are profiled on ripoffreport.com and Yelp. It sounds like she and her company are under investigation. Shame on them. What should I do to help protect others from falling victim to this scam? more

Resolved Question: any legal problems with this website idea?

For a school project I'm going to be creating a website that is the site for a fictional biotechnology and pharmaceuticals corporation. It will have a 'shop' for things like trial packets of sci-fi inspired drugs which don't actually exist, but the purchase button will lead to an error page that says the payment server is unavailable. I plan to make it very realistic without any disclaimers - the entire site will be completely in-character as the internet presence of a major international corporation. Before I begin the project, I am just trying to figure out if there would be any technically illegal aspects to this, like if false advertising rules apply to the (fictional) online store, if the fact that I call it a corporation without there being an actual corporation on file somewhere, etc, little things like that. I know its unlikely that anyone would actually do anything even if there are legal things wrong with it, but I'm just trying to make sure I'm totally safe from any idiot who decides to throw a fit. Thanks (this is all US-based, btw)@ the first poster: its for the sake of completeness. I want the site to give the impression of an actual corporation that could exist in 50 years (the products being "sold" will be slightly futuristic in that way, with things like implants being offered). more

Voting Question: Resume and Cover Letter Writing - Technical Terms Thank Can Be Mistaken For Typographical Errors?

Hi, I am a recent college graduate who after a year of post graduate internet enteprenuerhip am having to look elsewhere to for income due to a lack of sales and advertising revenue. My internet ventures were also my first job and I am now looking to include my year of web development and database design experience in my resume and cover letters. I have hit snag in adding some technical names referring to specific development tools. This is because some of these names when spelled correctly (ex: "OpenSocial") can appear to the untrained eye as a typographical error (ex: they think "OpenSocial" should by "Open Social"). This is not huge concern of mine if the reader is qualified to evaluate these technical aspects, but I fear it could be a disaster if sent to the human resources department of a large company. My fear comes from the typical skill set of people who work in human resources. Their resume's (ex: http://www.bestsampleresume.com/sample-human-resources-resume/sample-human-resources-resume-1.html) typically do not include the necessary technical experience to know what some terms even mean let alone if they are spelled correctly. Take a look at the following : - OpenSocial API - JavaScript - ObjectDataSource To the untrained eye this could look like four typographical errors occurred due to missing spaces when in fact it is an error free list of useful skills. The first being a way to promote products by creating embeddable devices using a standard format supported by most social networking sites, the second being a scripting language commonly used to improve user interfaces, and the third being a way to restrict access for different sections of a database to authorized people. How should I structure the technical names on my resume that consist of two or more words combined with capital letters in the middle? more

Wlinvestinc adverise on the internet that on an $80.00 investment they will give you a 200% profit return within 4 days !!! If this is indeed true, why do they need our money? They can generated their own investment capital. ( one cent multiplied by 200% over 4 months gives you more than one million rand). If I can get 200% profit on an investment like they advertise, who needs to work? Resolved Question: What exactly is the internet booster you "have to add" with a pay monthy contract Blackberry 8520?

Okay so it is advertised that the Blackberry curve 8520 is £15 per month in a certain store (I don't want this to be flagged as spam! anyway i don't think it is relevent) however in order to get the phone i'd have to pay an additional £5 per month for the 'blackberry email booster' thing, but what exactly is this and is it really necessary?? I first tried to get the phone in one store and this didn't even get mentioned. I got as far as credit check but because i have no credit i would have had to pay £100 which i didn't want to do...but I am SURE there was no mention of a booster in the deal that i was commited to buying in to... anyway i went to another store today and the credit wasn't a problem but now (this is the same company) and i was made aware of the booster....okay this is a different point to the question i am asking but was the fact it appeared that i could have got the phone for £15 per month plus £5 unlimited internet without paying for a booster just a fluke, or would it have just been a nasty suprise when it comes to paying the bill?? Anyway my main question is this. What exactly is the email booster i would be paying for?? what i basically want to know is could i pay the £15 month, plus £5 for unlimited internet without getting the booster and still use the internet i would be paying for?? I have been researching and for the blackberry (i think Bold) someone has said it can be done http://hubpages.com/hub/How-to-Connect-to-Internet-with-Your-BlackBerry-without-Paying-For-Data-Plan is this actually correct??? lol you can probably guess i am completely new to this, I still use the same phone i had when i was 13 and that was 5 years ago and phones have changed alot since then! This is a very specific question considering the phone but i hope someone can help me out :D Thanks GSTOKES more

Resolved Question: Montgomery Ward originated Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer for advertising purposes, who created Rudolph?

There is a story circulating about a man named Bob May whose wife dies and he created the story about Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer as a story for their 4 year old daughter, Barbara. Montgomery Ward picked up on the story and used Rudolph in their ad campaigns at Christmas time for many, many years. Gene Autrey sang the song and so on to Fame. What is the back story to Rudolph? I always thought it was just a cute ad campaign that was very successful. I've looked with little success for Bob May on the internet. Resolved Question: Enrolling in an MBA program: is my career (so far) an obstacle ?

Hi everyone, I've been working for almost seven years as an international finance controller in two major multinational French companies in Paris, one in outdoor advertising and one in pharmaceutical softwares and today I want to operate a major professional change with a double objective in mind: enter the entertainment industry and ideally come work in the US. I've looked around on the internet and I found some very good MBA specialized in entertainment ( more specifically UCLA, USC, NYU and Columbia). As every student applying for these kind of schools, I'm wondering what my chances are to be accepted in these programs ? One of my main concerns is the fact that I have NO experience at all in the entertainment industry so I was wondering if this was an obstacle to enter these types of MBA programs ? Thanks in advance for your answer, I really appreciate your help. Clément more

Resolved Question: What do you think of my persuasive argument writing piece?

It's supposed to be a feature article.. i think it sucks ...and i think my english teacher is going to despise it too. here it is:Stop Commercialism now How many times have you surfed on the internet and not found yourself to come across many ads that have popped up on the page you were on or are on? Many advertisers are profiting from what reels us in, which are these many ads you hear or see on the TV, radio, internet, etc. All in all, it’s a two-sided affair. Say you are just checking your email and you see a thousand emails. Possibly, half of those are spam from those penny-pinchers out to get you and your money. So what should you do about this? Well, you have one of two options being the check all and delete button or moving all that unnecessary junk to the spam folder where it belongs and needs to stay. Commercialism is vastly becoming a problem not a success as many assume it to be. Studies show that 67% of teens buy items online and 37% of children do. Commercialism attacks the adolescent ages because they figure we are susceptible to any commerce that they are willing to throw at us. Also, many individuals assume this to be a more convenient way of purchasing anything and it being a faster way. That may be, but how do you know you are actually getting what you paid for? You’re wasting your precious time behind a glass screen. Purchase the more effective way, by going out into stores and getting what you need. Many politicians use commerce for their campaigns. You know those TV ads that always contradict that you need to vote for so and so for president instead of the other guy because he did whatever? This is a way of a scam to get money out of your pockets and into their hands. These ads are the ones that are appealing to hear or see, just an easier way to pull you in. Commercialism also costs too much money. Most of which is probably our tax dollars. The price goes up for a product if realized that it makes a certain individual sustain a cool image by using it or buying it. Many of these can be misleading, so any time you are gullible to believe one you are giving away money that could be used for something more important. Advertising takes up a lot of one’s time. We only have one life to live right? The average American spends at least 60 minutes reading, hearing or even watching ads on the television, radio, in magazines, etc. By the time that person comes of old age, 4 years of their life will be basically deducted away from under their feet. Some say that we are immune, too smart, and too savvy to fall for such. If so were true, we wouldn’t know so much of certain brand names, dress a certain way, buy the foods we eat, and our lives wouldn’t mirror the ads around us. In addition to that, we wouldn’t need pop-up blockers, virus protection programs, and firewalls to save us from all this commerce. So ask yourself this, are we really immune to what we see on the TV, hear on the radio, etc? If we really were, we wouldn’t feel the vanity of using these things to get a better self-image to fit in with the way society portrays us to be, which is all the same. It’s kind of a win-win situation at its best, honestly and ironically enough. On the contrary, you are helping yourself out somewhat the same way you are helping out these phony ads. Sure ads can help us out by providing vital information to us consumers, but there is way too much that we are exposed to. Ads can hide the fact of caring for each other, the environment, and the community. Many ads give off a bad message to viewers. Such as smoking meaning you are different in a good way than everyone else, you’re only cool if you drive a pricey car, and also making us think that you have to be mature to drink. These messages can cause conflict in families because they could or can influence the way a person in that family thinks. This could cause friction because of the choices that family member made due to the advertisement. In that case, who’s to blame here? It all depends on the situation. To blame for 90% of it would be the advertisement because it provoked them to make such a decision and the other 10% being lack of poor judgment and self-esteem that was made better by the advertisement. So for all this in mind, why do we really need commercialism anywhere? To pay the bills, to help finances, to help make it an easier, better, more convenient way to make purchases? All it does is cause problems. What does it really help? You’re not really earning anything but helping the advertiser earn your trust and money. So next time you fall for one of these, think of all the consequences that won’t cushion your fall. Whenever you see a pop-up that pops up on your screen, click the x button at the top right, whenever you see any junk email click the delete all button, whenever you hear an ad on the TV, radio, or any electronic device turn it off and read a book not a magazine, instead. You can do many things to avo more

Resolved Question: What Do You Think BLACKbusterCritic On Youtube Fell For That Will Make Him Feel Like An Idiot?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NF-vtYbvCs He made a video about me. I can see some of his points about me, but however I gotta say I did not consider suicide, I was against it. I did not consider it BBC. I actually found your video entertaining. Even though I gotta say this I did not consider suicide, I was against it from the start. So your a bit off there. I do want a girlfriend, but its how I feel (I am eying three girls right now, well actually two because one has a boyfriend). However why am I being judged for only me wanting a girlfriend? Also about my voice, it usually is because of the camera, it makes my voice high pitched... its only when I am using a video camera that this does happen, actually I do not know why this is. Oh and if I am so much of a Sonic and Inuyasha fag, then why is it that I my favorite game series is The Legend of Zelda. Calling me suicidal is preposterous and not true. OH and you also have been taunting me with your insults which is not funny. When you finish the video I will let you know something that will make you feel kinda stupid. You thought that video would upset me but it didn't... I am not gonna leave the internet, cause your video did not effect me... in fact I am watching it right now... and it is kinda entertaining once again... I have always wanted to have a video dedicated to me. Once again. Im gonna say this now when you find out something that I will explain after your videos are done... you will feel like a moron. Because its so funny, you pretty much told me all your thoughts about me... oh and this will be good, I totally can not wait for your other videos, because when theyre done I will reveal how you are the biggest moron on the internet... you will say... I totally fell for it (no it does not have to do with advertising, oh I can not wait until you feel like the biggest idiot on the web. You outta post your videos tomorrow and Sunday... this is gonna be ridiculously funny... What did you fall for that makes you the biggest idiot on the web???I do have ADHD, when I made those videos every time I showed a sign I redid the video... Resolved Question: Is Cash Gifting illegal? If so, is there any instance where it can work legally?

I've looked all over the internet and there are tons of websites that say it is legal, and tons of them that say it is illegal. I know you can send someone cash as a gift(up to $12,000 a year per person), and the IRS doesn't care how you make money as long as they get their taxes from it. So if a cash gifting company has a 1-up or 2-up, I'm assuming it is illegal due to the fact that there is no product you are selling when marketing and trying to find people, or that you are trying to get people to sign-up to send you money? If you had a cash gifting site and you did NOT advertise or try to recruit people to send you cash, wouldn't it be considered legal? Or if you had a product or products that people would get when they sent a cash gift would that work? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would just like to know what you would have to do to make a cash gifting program 100% legal? Thanks in advance. more

Resolved Question: "Dollie Walsh". Who's "connected" with her on Yahoo?

Out of the blue, I received an email, apparently from a startlingly attractive woman, who I'd never met before even through others, who wanted to Connect with me on Yahoo. The email was from somebody called "Dollie Walsh" who completely out of the blue wanted to Connect and be my friend, The picture with the email showed an impossibly attractive woman, like Katie Price with more style and a sense of restraint, and I suppose the sensible thing to do would have been to delete the wretched thing without comment or reply. But no, I had to be clever, so I replied with "OK, excuse my cynicism here, but people who look like that generally don't need to make friends via the Internet. My AV is the best I can get and I have no fears of being hyped or scammed, so I look forward to the next move - who knows, Dollie might turn out to be a living breathing human (but one who has adopted a very flattering avatar, as I'm sure we all have done in one sense or another? ) in which case I welcome sombody who appears to appreciate my poor efforts on YahooAnswers!" Silly, as I'd just advertised the fact I had a live email address. So far nothing horrible's happened - I half-expect my email address to be bunged up with all sorts of $hit - but "Dollie" has replied to tell me how much she likes my avatar, my profile, my sense of humour, et c, and just coincidentally she'll be in "Manchester, England" this weekend if we want to meet... I sense one enormous scam here, esp. as her email contained links to a sex-dating site which I suspect might be a front for prostitution. So Muggins here turns up at the date, discovers the lady's clock has been running since six and I already owe her several hundred, I protest that was not part of the deal, then two large blokes loom up behind me to say "Oh yes it is!" ,and enforce payment... I also note "Dolly" has made 106 online friends, mainly male, so I wonder if anyone else's experience is the same as mine? Anyone willing to come out? BTW, I have Googled on the name "Dollie Walsh" and it appears, without exception, to belong to several ordinary ladies in their fifties and sixties living on the east coast USA, who live blameless, even exemplary, lives - as teachers, elderly care workers, social workers, et c - and I suspect it has been chosen/stolen because it projects that sort of "trust me" solidity and reliability. Nobody under seventy in Britain calls herself "Dolly", anyway. And both the genuine Dollty Walshes and the women on the prostitution site appear to be clustered in the North-Eastern USA, around Pensylvania and New England. How do I report this to Yahoo, as it stinks a mile high - something not right or proper is happening here. more

Resolved Question: what is your oppinion on lip-syncing celebrities?

britney spears recently arriving in Australia for her "Circue tour" has sparked allot of contreversy about lip-syncing. It is a very questionable act, and among all, an ethical. people have paid allot of money to see their hero in the flesh, and they deserve a live show. I for one, bought 2 tickets for this concert, and paid well over $400 aswell as a "pre-internet booking fee". Aside from the fact that i am still excited to see the concert, i feel very ripped off... it was advertised as a LIVE SHOW. what should organisers such as ticketek be doing to avoid the outrage from the general public? should they demand only live performances (NO LIP SYNCERS!), should they advertise that these shows are NOT performed live, or, what rules/ regulations should be put in place to stop things like this happening in the future? more

Resolved Question: Are there any true FREE registry cleaner programs?

I am so sick and tired of seeing FREE registry programs. You download the program, it scans the computer and comes up with this outrageous number of alleged errors and then you have to pay to have them fixed. Some actually fix maybe 20 errors, but nothing like they advertise. In fact, I dont know how they can advertise a free program that fixes registry errors, when it truly does not. False advertisements. So, does anyone know of any TRULY FREE registry programs on the internet. more

Resolved Question: What alternatives are there to ZoneAlarm's program-filtering firewall?

I've been putting up with ZoneAlarm's nonsense for far too long. Upon starting my computer I am greeted with a large advertisement with two buttons, one of which opens up Firefox (to further lag my loading time) and the other of which usually doesn't respond for a minute or so. Furthermore, ZoneAlarm has this bad habit of blocking port 80 (HTTP, i.e. the internet as through web browsers) when web traffic gets too high or certain sites are visited (thorough searches from every adware, spyware, virus, etc. program I can get my hands on show nothing's wrong). This makes it so that when attempting to visit a website, the browser will continue "waiting" for it to respond until the cows come home. I have to restart to fix the problem. Even worse, if I do not restart immediately or I attempt to close and reopen Firefox (it says that firefox.exe is still running and I can't end the process) it freezes my computer and any attempt at a reboot fails - I have to hard reset using the power button. Fortunately, other ports are not blocked - IM clients, games, and whatnot continue to function. My IM buddies can attest to the fact that I constantly have to reboot my computer. This occurs at least on a daily basis and, frankly, I am tired of it. However, in other aspects, ZoneAlarm has served me well. For example, I have caught a few programs trying to sneak internet access at random times. Internet Explorer is one of them - even though I have never run IE on this computer, it regularly requests access about once every 5 seconds, which can cause problems when doing anything full screen. I ended up permanently blocking it for this reason and have pledged to myself never to use IE again. (I use Portable Firefox on other computers.) Adobe products of all sorts have the same problem - upon starting, they all demand access to the internet, even though none of them have any reason for doing so. Now, the program filtering is a necessary evil for me, but the advertising and the random port 80 blocking is too much. So, are there any (preferably free, but I won't be too hopeful) alternatives to this feature? I have searched all sorts of places but cannot seem to find anything. more

Resolved Question: How can I get money from the internet?

I tried many ways to get money, by filling out surveys, linking pages, visiting sites, etc. But the fact is that most of them are scams and they never give u any money. So is there a reliable place from where I can get money from internet (such as filling out surveys, visiting certain sites, etc) and put it in my PayPal account. I don't have my own site so i cant advertise anything. Also I cant sell items on eBay, etc. Please don't give any sites which wont work or on which you want to add me as a referral. Resolved Question: Is this why government run healthcare will never be less expensive?

From wheelchairs and walkers to orthopedic shoes and needles, Medicare buys tens of thousands of products every day for elderly Americans. And as the single largest buyer of medical products, you'd think it would at leastget a volume discount. But it doesn't. In fact, Medicare doesn't even get the best price. According to their own auditors, Medicare knowingly overpays for almost everything it buys. Examples include: -- $7,215 to rent an oxygen concentrator, when the purchase price is $600. -- $4,018 for a standard wheelchair, while the private sector pays $1,048. -- $1,825 for a hospital bed, compared to an Internet price of $1,071. -- $3,335 for a respiratory pump, versus an advertised price of $1,987. -- $82 for a diabetic supply kit, instead of a $47 price on the Web. Last year, the Health and Human Services Department tried to replace its archaic fixed-price fee schedule for 10 commonly purchased products with a competitive bidding program in 10 cities. The department said the program could save Medicare $125 million in a single year, or $1 billion if adopted nationwide. But Congress stepped in to stop it. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/10/05/tracking-taxes-medicare-waste/"There were products that we had as much as 75 percent savings. The average was 29 percent," said Mike Leavitt, the former HHS secretary who oversaw the program. "It would have saved billions if we could've actually implemented it, but Congress deferred it. In Washington speak, that means we put it off forever," he said. Leavitt blames Congressmen Pete Stark (D-Calif.) and Dave Camp (R-Mich.) for introducing legislation that terminated the contracts and postponed the program for 18 months. Leavitt says the congressional intervention helps explain why many are suspicious of claims that Washington can cut enough waste to actually pay for health care reform, as President Obama told a joint session of Congress last month. "Reducing the waste and inefficiency in Medicare and Medicaid will pay for most of this plan," Leavitt said. "The problem here is one man's waste is another man's living, and whenever there is an effort put forward to actually make an efficiency, someone goes more

Resolved Question: Booked caravan paid deposit, but not recieved confirmation?

I found a caravan to rent on a rental site and contacted the owner to book our holiday for next August. We sent a £100 deposit cheque which the owner cashed on 20th August. I contacted her at the beginning of September to ask when she would send confirmation of our booking and she said she doesn't send confirmation, she emails it so she asked my email address and said she would do it. Last week I contacted her to ask why she hadnt emailed confirmation and she apologised and said her internet was down at the moment and she would send it soon. The site she advertised on is legit with pictures of the caravan etc but I'm getting a bit worried as we have no proof other than the fact we sent a cheque. Am I right to be worried? Does anyone know the legal view on deposits for holidays? Help! Thanks in advance. :) more

Resolved Question: MySpace picture - legal issue?

My fiance's sister is a nutcase. She's crazy, involved in a bunch of crap that I don't let my 10 month old son around. Her friends are all either drug addicts or dealers, her ex is in jail again this time I don't know why, he was in for murder (involuntary manslaughter I believe) and drug dealing, and he's back in but don't know why. Anyway, these are just some of the reasons I steer clear from her, so does my fiance. She's a welfare project, too. I'm not knocking welfare, there for who needs it, but she doesn't! She gets her electric, rent, food, ALL for free. Her TV and internet are free off of her mother's lines, she lives next door. Her husband works under the table. So, she's already told me how she gets it illegally. Anyway -- she has pictures of me and my son on her MySpace page, advertised as her "adorable nephew" .. we don't allow her to see him, because of the trouble that follows her, and the fact that she's insane. She won't take them down. I know once a picture is on MySpace it's the property of MySpace and MySpace can do what they want, but this is pictures of my minor son and me on HER page without our permission. I have asked repeatedly to no avail. Can she get in trouble? Could the police force her to take them down? Just curious. Thanks!UGH .. but how can she put pictures of ME and my son who is a minor w/o my consent on her page for all the dangerous drug dealers and addicts to see? She didn't get the pictures from me or any other profile, she got them from her mother's camera. She got them off of her mother's camera.Excuse me? Only technically is he her nephew. She does not see him, isn't allowed to see him. She is dangerous and has dangerous friends and we protect our son. I don't want her crazy drug addicted friends knowing who he is or how to find him. You can't predict lowlifes like that. more

Resolved Question: double check my essay?:)?

plz:) i need you to correct my essay (grammatically mostly) subject=> Do You Think Advertising Is Important?if Yes,In What Ways? Advertising is believed to be utterly pointless,as well as annoying.Nevertheless, many people advocate that advertising is so extremely important an industry, providing jobs for a great amount of people all around the world. It is difficult to establish which side is right, however,I would say it is vital advertising exist. First of all, countless industries are depended on advertising, such as TV.In the wake of 70s,advertising was not considered to be essential,by television spectators. However, there's no doubt that under no circumstances are programs on TV to exist without ads. Thus, the greatest portion of television's cost is taken care of by numerous multinational sponsors. Were advertising not to exist,TV programs could not be broad casted. It is imperative that sponsors keep supporting TV,otherwise its quality will be quickly deteriorated. Other than television, advertising is a way to maintain other services ,such as Print Media.Newspapers and magazines is a real need for some people since they give us the opportunity to reflect on facts.Had advertisements not to exist, the cover price of a magazine would have been substially higher. In other words,it's thanks to revenues having been collected from advertising ,that we can enjoy so many things that would have been otherwise impossible, like Public transportation and the Internet. On the whole, seeing that only if sponsors keep supporting industries, can we enjoy a variety of services, we should all agree that it is vital that ads offset most of the production costs.Notwithstanding many people's disagreement we all know that commercials do us a world of good. THE END :) im very good at writing essays but that time i was sooo sleepy and i made it in 14mins :/ should i do it again from the beginning or just correct it? does it look very bad?:/ what mark would u give me (excellent = 100%) could you correct my mistakes? plz Thank You more

Resolved Question: Help with online insurance companies?

I’m looking to purchase a car in the near future, in fact I’m going to look at some this weekend. Background info, I live in Massachusetts, this is my first car I’m buying, but I’ve had a license for eight years, and a clean record. In my state (as I believe in all others, though I cannot say for sure), I cannot drive a car if it is uninsured, and I cannot register a car I would buy until it’s insured. I believe the following to be true, and if it’s not, please let me know. In my state, after purchasing a car from a dealer, I will get a filled application from the dealer for registration and title. After getting this application, I need to insure the car, and bring it to a state licensed insurance agent, so that they can stamp and sign said application. Then I can go to the registry and get the car registered/title transferred, and get the plates, so that I can return to the car, change the plates, and drive said car away. I will of course need the previous owner’s title, or a certificate of origin to finish the transaction to transfer the title, and register the car. After which I’ll need to pass inspection. Then I’ll be in the clear. Now my question is, if I try one of the various online companies that advertise on the internet, such as Esurance, Progressive, Allstate, Geico, etc, how could they come and stamp/sign the application? Does an agent come to my house, do I go to a local branch or office, or would I be better off getting this done with a local insurance company, and just switching over to a different insurance company after I get the car? Priority is of course getting the car registered so that I can drive it, and thus, insured so it can be registered and the title transferred. My ability to keep my job is at stake right now, as my previous ride is no longer an option. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance. more

Resolved Question: My first and only 2012 question! Is SONY entertainment acting legally with the IHC website?

www.instituteforhumancontinuity.org/ ^ I'm sure the cronies at Sony entertainment will have looked seriously into the legality of this issue, but is there any possibility that someone could sue Sony for false advertising or even inciting fear/mass panic/public disturbance? There are a number of outrageous lies. Notably: 'The Institute for Human Continuity is dedicated to scientific progress and public preparedness. After more than two decades of rigorous research from the world's top astronomers, mathematicians, geologists, physicists, anthropologists, engineers, futurists...we know in 2012 a series of cataclysmic forces will wreak havoc on our planet.' All this under the pretense of a .org website, when it is in fact a business. Is that legal to wrongly portray a business as an organization, even if it is only as a marketing tool? Surely 'we know' - in the paragraph above - is false advertising? --- Why should this matter? Because children can be easily influenced and duped. They aren't stupid, but when they see a site like this that looks authentic, and have grown up in the internet age, they might well take it as truth. We hear of a child committing suicide in India over media lies about the Large Hadron Collider. The 2012 myth has generated a lot more press than the LHC, and I'm concerned that SONY might have some blood on their hands with this latest monstrosity before long. Maybe you think this is over the top. Your thoughts are appreciated.Lets hope so, Michael. I honestly think there might be a number of suicides related to the 2012 myth though. The website offends me with its mere existence. The film - not so much. But you can see how people might be lured into the trap with this website when it is not at all clear that it is related to the film or Sony, and presented in this official-looking way.Michael: heh heh, thank you. If there is any small chance that they're acting illegally, then I'd like to take some action, somehow.UPDATE: I've just asking this question in the legal section: http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AgmFKyrE46gi0ZcIUe4sb2cgBgx.;_ylv=3?qid=20090828154055AABBYmA more

Voting Question: How do I get rid of virus win32/Cryptor? please help!?

My family recently got Verizon DSL and the first thing I did was install AVG free antimalware program I got from cnet.com Internet worked well for me except for the fact that a pop-up from my windows toolbar kept saying that my firewall was not on, but when I checked my control panel, it was on. I tried to click on the pop-up but nothing would happen. Finally I came to my senses and scanned for anything on my computer using the AVG program. Something called win32/Cryptor kept coming up but AVG couldn't remove it. I tried to look up win32/Cryptor on Google and unfortunately the first thing I clicked linked me directly to this bogus website that was faking itself as a Windows program and telling me that I was infected and needed to install its antivirus software. I knew it was fake and tried closing it down but it wouldn't let me. The "website" was called stop-spyware.biz/index..................... Now it is constantly popping up from time to time. AVG would detect it and a AVG security pop-up would come up saying something like this: File name: stop-spyware.biz/index.php?PHPSESSID=f70eb31b7e1d1d1dc22e8f663c47e9 Threat name: Exploit Rogue spyware scanner (type 800) Process name: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe Process ID: 2072 Also, while searching on Google, other links I click on also take me to advertising/spam/bogus websites. I don't know what win32/cryptor is or how I got it, but can someone tell me what it is, how I got it, and how I can get rid of it?! more

Resolved Question: I am probably going to get reamed a new one for this but.....?

Met a guy on a singles dating site that I advertise on. We have not met in person yet, and I am realistic that no matter how well things go over email and phone, you never know for sure how things are until you meet in person. Here is the thing though. He is only 22. He emailed me and when I found out his age my initial reaction was to run, and I told him we could never be more than friends as I was a decade and a half older than him. He expressed his interest in me despite his age or mine and said he understood but I could tell he wished I would at least be open minded to not ruling him out for his age. I ruled him out anyway, but went along with the friendship premise. The more we have gotten to know each other the more we like each other. So far he absolutely blows me away. We are on the same page in so many realms. We are attracted to each other, sure, but this clicking, this gravitational pull we seem to have, is not about sex. We have both been single for several years and even though he is so much more (even obscenely so) younger than me, he is smarter, wiser, more evolved, than any man I have ever talked to in my life. He is so mature for his age, that the fact that I am older and more mature really appeals to him, even though he was not looking for an older woman. That same maturity was also what made me end up totally and completely falling for him, as much as one can fall for someone they have never met because compared to men I have dated, even in their late 30's does not even come close to having it as together as this guy. I know we still have to meet, but I am still in shock to like someone so muich that is so young that we do not even belong to the same generation. Am I horrid? Is this disgusting? Is age just a number or is that something people just say to make themselves feel better when something they are involved in is so wrong according to society but feels so damn right? Is it better if I stick with someone my own age who is less mature, kind, intelligent, romantic, amazing? Is it okay to say screw it, I am going to do what makes me happy for a change and not my parents or my peers? I would really appreciate your feedback and thoughts on this matter, even if you have something to say that I will probably not like. This is new territory for me. And I really would like your insight. Even if it is negative, i am still for once in my life going to go with my gut and my heart and soul. And not what is politically or socially correct. But even if the feedback is to call me a nasty pedaphile ho, better to prepare myself with what strangers will think, so I know better to expect what my family and friends reaction will be, if him and i meet and we feel the same way in person as we do on email, chat, and phone Additional Details: Actually, he has been single for 2 years, but his last relationship lasted for 4. I have been single for 6 years but my longest relationship was my ex husband and I met, married, and divorced him in less than 3. He is a semester away from his associates degree. And guess what? I only started going back to school in 2007, part time, after a 16 year absence. I will am 3 semesters away from my associates degree. He is more independent than most guys i have dated. I have met guys older than me who lives with their parents. He is 22 and does not. I have met guys my age who are jobless or work for minimum wage and he is a research assistant. As far as online dating goes, I work at home, go to school at home, and am a single mom. This is the 21st century. Unless I run into someone at the local wal-mart, my only hope is to meet someone thru internet dating. I know 3 happily married couples that are married that met online. One just celebrated 16 yrs! more
