Open Question: What is wrong with my query letter?

Note: I got some great advice last time I posted my query letter but It seemed as if the poster missed some important facts. Also, I disagreed with the "silliness" of some of the parts such as "religiously insane militants". This is a different time after all. Attn. Mr./Ms./Mrs. AGENT, Extinction is forever and forever is a long, long time. The year is 2058 and Damien Spikes simply wants what any man wants; Closure for the wild younger years. He settles down with his lovely wife Miranda and she becomes pregnant with his child. Everything seems to fall in place for a humble, if not typical, future. Then, Damien realizes she will be giving birth while he is on active duty. The best day of his life would have to be in the middle of a Brazilian jungle with a weapon in his hands and that knowledge in his head, eating away at his conviction. But drug cartels are the least of his, or anyone else’s worries. Something is waiting in the forest. It writhes in anticipation, yearning for the moment it can unleash its unstoppable torrent on the world. We always thought that the greatest threat to human survival was humanity itself; we were wrong. After cracking down on the religiously insane militants of the Middle East, Damien Spikes and the U.S. military infiltrate the concealing jungles of South America with orders to bring down the world’s final drug cartels in one glorious motion. Damien and his rag-tag squad of soldiers are expected to single-handedly topple several cartels in the region. The only problem is that something else is there. It is growing, spreading, evolving. The Swarm is unknowable, unrelenting, and seemingly unstoppable. They don’t just threaten the mission; they threaten all life on Earth. What mysteries does the Swarm conceal? What is their biological imperative? Because 2012 was never meant to be the end, it was the beginning of the end. AURORA NOVA is a science fiction novel with the dangerous ride of a thriller and the horrific revelations of a horror novel. Complete at 40,243 words, AURORA NOVA is the culmination of a deep passion for an epic science fiction universe with a distant, yet tangible kinship with the great science fiction novels Starship Troopers and Ender’s Game. AURORA NOVA also has three sequels in progress. The format for the future stories is presently in a video game script that will be nearly 800 pages in length. The video game industry is a massive one that is still growing exponentially. It has an enormous market looking for fast-paced and action oriented science fiction piece that reads like a video game plays. AURORA NOVA is one of those stories. I worked with the Salisbury University Literary Magazine. I write articles for the Baltimore Examiner. I am also a member of the Maryland Writer's Association (MWA). Should AURORA NOVA ever be published, 10-25% of my personal royalties will go to the World Wildlife Foundation. Thank you for your time and consideration. It would be my pleasure to send you the full manuscript should you request it. My e-mail is ********************* and my phone number is ***-***-****. Regards, METhanks for the reply, it seems like opinions vary though. Some people start with the hook, then do the bio and technical description of the writing later. I have seen examples of published works that do this, more so than the format you are mentioning. I am thinking of staying with this format for now. Thanks for the other reply. Like some of the advice. Working on the wordiness of it. I don't think religiously insane is "just plain bad writing" There is a point of personal interest. I have working with my novel in critique groups galore and people have told me this specific writing is refreshing for them in the scifi genre. Also, it's too bad that it doesn't catch your attention because it has caught (roughly) 99 percent of the people's attention who have read it. But I welcome your opinion, heck I even asked for it so I very much appreciate and am taking much to heart. The thing about writing is that people will tear you and your book apart simply because they personally don't like it, so I understand and welcome all criticism. Thanks ya'll!Thanks third poster. Great advice. more

Open Question: Are there "still" Obama faithful who believe he has an economic recovery plan after the "flagship" plan fail?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100820/ap_on_re_us/us_mortgage_aid;_ylt=AoMLf1yjylgyLuHaYXUW9rWWwvIE;_ylu=X3oDMTM0bjdpNnA5BGFzc2V0A2FwLzIwMTAwODIwL3VzX21vcnRnYWdlX2FpZARjY29kZQNtb3N0cG9wdWxhcgRjcG9zAzIEcG9zAzIEc2VjA3luX3RvcF9zdG9yaWVzBHNsawNuZWFybHk1MHBlcmM- quoting... Nearly half of the 1.3 million homeowners who enrolled in the Obama administration's flagship mortgage-relief program have fallen out. "The government program as currently structured is petering out. It is taking in fewer homeowners, more are dropping out and fewer people are ending up in permanent modifications," said Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody's Analytics. Besides forcing people from their homes, foreclosures and distressed home sales have pushed down on home values and crippled the broader housing industry. They have made it difficult for homebuilders to compete with the depressed prices and discouraged potential sellers from putting their homes on the market. Approximately 630,000 people who had tried to get their monthly mortgage payments lowered through the government program have been cut loose through July, according to the Treasury report. That's about 48 percent of the those who had enrolled since March 2009. And it is up from more than 40 percent through June. WHEN IS ENOUGH...ENOUGH???despite the rantings of the left, there is no assumption here...READ THE QUESTION!!!...im asking for YOUR opinion. more

Open Question: Do you agree with Milton Friedman? Why do people put so much faith in big government?

"We have a system that increasingly taxes work and subsidizes nonwork." "The government solution to a problem is usually as bad as the problem." "Nothing is so permanent as a temporary government program." "Only government can take perfectly good paper, cover it with perfectly good ink and make the combination worthless." "If you put the federal government in charge of the Sahara Desert, in 5 years there'd be a shortage of sand." "Concentrated power is not rendered harmless by the good intentions of those who create it." “Many people want the government to protect the consumer. A much more urgent problem is to protect the consumer from the government.” "The greatest advances of civilization, whether in architecture or painting, in science and literature, in industry or agriculture, have never come from centralized government." "Governments never learn. Only people learn." "I am favor of cutting taxes under any circumstances and for any excuse, for any reason, whenever it's possible." "Most economic fallacies derive - from the tendency to assume that there is a fixed pie, that one party can gain only at the expense of another." "History suggests that capitalism is a necessary condition for political freedom." "What kind of society isn't structured on greed? The problem of social organization is how to set up an arrangement under which greed will do the least harm; capitalism is that kind of a system." "Nobody spends somebody else's money as carefully as he spends his own. Nobody uses somebody else's resources as carefully as he uses his own. So if you want efficiency and effectiveness, if you want knowledge to be properly utilized, you have to do it through the means of private property." "The most important single central fact about a free market is that no exchange takes place unless both parties benefit." "A major source of objection to a free economy is precisely that group thinks they ought to want. Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself." Milton Friedman is one of my favorite economists. My political compass falls nearly in line with his. Do you agree with his views? There are free markets all over the world and they are doing just fine all the unregulated corporations. If a corporation doesn't have the know how to compete than too bad for them. If you have a monopoly than that's where innovation comes in, find a cheaper and more efficient way to make a product and you break the monoply."Anyone who does not understand the concept of monopolies or the necessity to regulate against them does not get to call themselves an economist in my book." Monopolies have historically existed through the help of the federal government.""Evidently Mr. Friedman has never been fired. Perhaps someone should demonstrate to him that economic exchange, so that he might decide if it is to the benefit of both the employer and the employee." He refers to the exchange of goods and services."And we have a man who has never heard of the Internet, of the space race, of nuclear technology, or of particle physics. (Who put a man on the moon? I'll give you a hint: it wasn't Frito Lay). I think we're done here." Most of the work was done by private corporations funded by the government. more

Open Question: How big an industry do you suppose televangelism is in America?

I was watching this documentary about the whole industry of television marketing and the subject of televangelism was touched upon. The reporter was visiting a factory where they basically take care of donations for these people. These guys were simply hired to open enveloppes, cash cheques and put all the cash in neat, counted piles for a televangelist. He reports that this televangelist receives so much in cash donations, that they can't keep up with it at their office, so they hired the firm to do it for them (wouldn't you love to have that problem?). The firm director wouldn't give the name of the specific evangelist, but still... more

The plan is an acknowledgment by the administration that oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- which together have issued more than $1.5 trillion in outstanding debt -- is broken. A report by outside investigators in July concluded that Freddie Mac manipulated its accounting to mislead investors. Democrats BLOCKED all attempts in Subcommittee --Supporters of the companies (Fannie/Freddie) said efforts to regulate the lenders tightly under those agencies might diminish their ability to finance loans for lower-income families. -- ''These two entities -- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- are not facing any kind of financial crisis,'' said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. ''The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.'' Representative Melvin L. Watt, Democrat of North Carolina, agreed. ''I don't see much other than a shell game going on here, moving something from one agency to another and in the process weakening the bargaining power of poorer families and their ability to get affordable housing,'' Mr. Watt said. You have either NOT read the above facts, or have chosen to ignore them. However, you are proving my point to perfection. more

Resolved Question: What salary should I ask for? Recent MBA grad with 6 Months Relevant Work Experience.?

I am a recent MBA graduate from San Jose State University in CA. I don't have much industry experience but I have an undergraduate degree in Architectural Engineering and also have an excellent academic record. I have been working with an e-commerce start up for 6 months. Recently I got an offer for an outbound sales position in an IT company and they are offering 23k +medical and after months if my performance is satisfactory it will go up to 45K. Do you think I should take this offer? I don't want to go into sales as my career. So would it be wise to just take the job to get the foot in the door or get some experience, though I don't know how the sales experience would help me with my future goals. I want to go into project Management or Market research/ Business Intelligence. What salary should I ask for ? Or should I even consider this job? more

Open Question: Does Joe the Conservative need Joe the Liberal around?

Joe gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare his morning coffee. The water is clean and good because some tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards. With his first swallow of water, he takes his daily medication. His medications are safe to take because some stupid commie liberal fought to ensure their safety and that they work as advertised. All but $10 of his medications are paid for by his employer's medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance - now Joe gets it too. He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs. Joe's bacon is safe to eat because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry. In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is properly labeled with each ingredient and its amount in the total contents because some crybaby liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained. Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought for the laws to stop industries from polluting our air.He walks on the government-provided sidewalk to subway station for his government-subsidized ride to work. It saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees because some fancy-pants liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a conributor. Joe begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some lazy liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joe's employer pays these standards because Joe's employer doesn't want his employees to call the union. If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, he'll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some stupid liberal didn't think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune. It is noon time and Joe needs to make a bank deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe's deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some godless liberal wanted to protect Joe's money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the Great Depression. Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae-underwritten mortgage and his below-market federal student loan because some elitist liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his lifetime. Joe also forgets that his in addition to his federally subsidized student loans, he attended a state funded university. Joe is home from work. He plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive. His car is among the safest in the world because some America-hating liberal fought for car safety standards to go along with the tax-payer funded roads. He arrives at his boyhood home. His was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers' Home Administration because bankers didn't want to make rural loans. The house didn't have electricity until some big-government liberal stuck his nose where it didn't belong and demanded rural electrification. He is happy to see his father, who is now retired. His father lives on Social Security and a union pension because some wine-drinking, cheese-eating liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn't have to. Joe gets back in his car for the ride home, and turns on a radio talk show. The radio host keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. He doesn't mention that the beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day. Joe agrees: "We don't need those big-government liberals ruining our lives! After all, I'm a self-made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like. I have." more

Resolved Question: How does the pharma industry standard compare with the AGW standards?

Recently Pegminer has told me that I should be embarrassed to be a part of pharma. This is the same pharma that has made AIDS no longer a death sentence. The same pharma that has cured some forms of cancer. The same pharma that requires not only two independent double-blind studies to allow a drug onto market, but also has a regulatory body which reviews the clinical trials for processes, data handling and all analysis done. The same pharma industry that requires analysis after the drug has gone to market. His argument is based upon occasionally having a pharma company try to game the system, being caught, fined and even sometimes serving prison terms. He claims one a year. While I am not sure he can support this claim, this is still less than 1% (132 new drug apps in 2009). How do the standards for the AGW industry compare?Randy, the question was deleted, couldn't answer it.Most drug recalls are due to long term safety effects that are not studied. It is nearly impossible to keep a patient in study for 5 years to test these effects, but are continual testing after drug hits market does. In any field that has a lot of money, you will see abuses. Even given all of the safe guards of the FDA and two independent trials, we have some issues. The difference is that ours are found and the offenders prosecuted. You think your research does not fall under the same problems? You cover them up, we tell the world.Pegminer, Read the article you provide!!! Why do you always provide an article that in no way proves your point, if you take the time to read the article. You think packaging problems shows analysis problems? Really?Jyush. Last time I heard, CO2 is not dangerous to man at these levels.Trevor, Do you think that the process to get published is nearly as strigent as to get a drug approved? If not, then it stands to reason that you would have more problems. Why do you think your are not widely known and our are? more

Open Question: Is there a better excuse for businesses?

Many businesses (not all) are deemed as somewhat immoral. I agree with this statement, but not quite in the extreme as I will describe it. Anyhow: Some businesses, such as those mentioned in Fast Food Nation, sold soda to toddlers, disregarding the vulnerability of a child's developing dental health or health in general. Other businesses, such as those "mass produce" types - apparel, soda, and electronics - abuse the "free market" enterprise and resort to "out-sourcing" (or such term): Using cheap labor overseas to make millions, without regarding the health conditions or "giving a @#$%" about the employees - who are often very destitute and are desperate. Additionally, in Fast Food Nation, the meatpacking industry especially takes special measures to prevent the government from interfering with their "business" - which is denying adequate health care or working environment to its employees. Without the Child Labor Laws and such, today, businesses would probably still be working 6-year old children (and younger) 15+ hours a day, paying them perhaps a dollar or two an hour - given the opportunity. (Exaggerated, but highly possible). Long story short: Businesses, if given the opportunity, will pay workers an incredibly low salary, salaries probably beyond inadequacy to support oneself, and deny proper or decent working conditions. Essentially, like slave labor, except with a little pay. Many people complain about this, but some argue that " a business is doing what it's suppose to do - make money." Similarly, "It's their business, let them be." In an extremist view: Businesses are immoral, greedy organizations bent only on making money. Not all businesses are like this, but most are. They (the immoral ones) will often behave to a point before illegal"ness" to maximize profit: in other words, go as far as they can go before getting in trouble, although some will break the rules. Their only excuse is: We're only out to make money, that's what we're made for - that's what businesses do. An example: Hitmen businesses or drug dealerships - killing people and selling things that destroy the body and "mentally cripple" somewhat innocent children, also abuse children as drug traffickers. But after all, they are just "doing what they're suppose to do: make money." Indeed, is this a reasonable excuse to do such things? -------------------------------------- Honestly, is there another "valid" excuse or reason to supply to this immoral act? If so, please state it.Quite long I know, but I wanted to add some "additional/background" information to spark insight amongst readers. more

Resolved Question: Any proof of the socialist agenda?

I roll my eyes every time a conservative uses the word "socialist" or "communist" to describe a liberal. And by socialist, I mean someone that wants to completely wipe out all corporate profits and completely redistribute all wealth. Someone that wants public control of ALL industry. That is the definition of a socialist, isn't it? That is NOT the same as supporting social programs that are meant to support people that can not get basic services due to limiting circumstances (old age or temporary unemployment for example). Are those programs abused by some people? Yes, but not any more than some people abuse the "free market" system. Back to the question...can anyone provide evidence that suggests schools, higher education, media, politicians, or anyone else have a definite socialist agenda? I ask this because I am seriously in doubt, and will honor thoughtful responses. If you spew crap though, I will call you out on it. Thanks.Bailouts Stimulus Healthcare Reform Financial Reform Last time I checked, those still aren't equal."Nationalized health care. " The government hasn't suggested socializing heath care. They wanted to reform so that all Americans could get health care insurance. Why? Because the richest country in the world can afford to offer basic health services to everyone. Debatable, yes. Socialism...not really.SDS, SEIU, Acorn, The Tides Foundation, The Apollo Alliance. I'll be honest, the only one I've heard of is Acorn, and only because they were tangled in the last election - not a sign of socialism. I'll look into them, but you haven't proved they are socialist or that they are mainstream in the liberal party.According to wikipedia, the Apollo Alliance's goals include establishing energy independence for the United States of America, as well as developing cleaner and more efficient energy alternatives. No socialism in that description.Andy, thanks to free market systems, Newsweeks main objective is to sell magazines - not push a liberal agenda. So when they say we are all socialists, they are trying to make money, not be objective.Shadespin....thank you for making sense!gws35, I run across your posts a lot. I admire that you put some brain power behind your answers. At the same time, I wish we had a better way to debate things. In any case, our control of GM was not a plot to take over the car industry. It was an attempt to keep a large company afloat in the middle of an already hard hit recession. I have a feeling ownership will go back private control within a few years. The government has no interest in operating a car company (in my opinion). Anyway, yes, that is an example of socialistic policy, however I hardly think that one or two isolated cases makes us a socialist country or that the people who made the decision were socialists. I think they were trying their best to keep the economy from spiraling out of control. You could argue that that kind of policy though will hurt us more in the long run, or be repeated, which would start get more suspicious. For that, I appreciate your response. more

Open Question: What do you think of my novel's query letter?

Attn. Mr./Ms. (Agent), After cracking down on the religiously insane militants of the Middle East, Damien Spikes and the U.S. military infiltrate the concealing jungles of South America with orders to bring down the world’s final drug cartels in one glorious motion. But drug cartels are the least of his, or anyone else’s worries. Something is waiting in the forest. It writhes in anticipation, yearning for the moment it can unleash its unstoppable torrent on the world. In the twilight of humanity, would you accept your fate, or fight? Because extinction is forever and forever is a long, long time. It has an enormous market looking for fast-paced and action oriented science fiction that reads like a video game plays. AURORA NOVA is one of those stories and could have one of the largest markets available. I am also a member of the Maryland Writer's Association (MWA). Should AURORA NOVA ever be published, 10-25% of my royalties will go to the World Wildlife Foundation. Thank you for your time and consideration. The full manuscript is available at request. Voting Question: Why do fiscally conservative Republicans ignore Biblical teachings that promote social justice?

During every Presidential election, you see Republicans cater to the Evangelical crowd. I've noticed that Republicans paint themselves as the Christian party that is fighting secular progressivism. Many of those same Republicans create hard-line opposition against any new welfare programs proposed by the Democrats. Here is what I want to know: Why is it that those Republicans simultaneously claim to be Christian AND support free market capitalism? Many of America's "free market policies" result in exploitation of poorer Americans, in addition to the exploitation of foreigners who work in sweatshops producing goods for American consumption. Can someone please tell me why Republicans won't support one or the other? Also, can someone show me biblical passages where Christ says that it's ok to exploit people in the way that American industry exploits people in sweatshops? more

Voting Question: unfair business practices and defamation?

I work at the head office for a relatively recently established franchise based organisation. The business pakage we offer is genuinely much much better than any of our competitors, and our initial franchise fee to join the network is less than half the price of the market leader, AND, inspite of this, our monthly managment fees are cheaper than theirs, and the products supplied by us to our franchisees are significantly better than that of the market leader, despite being a third of the price. We have begun to take up a significant part of the market share as a result (though we are still a relatively small company, with only 50 franchises, to our competitors 300). However, over the course of the last year, we have been the victim oof an ongoing slander campaign. Our franchisees are consistently being contacted by a now ex franchisee, and being encouraged to refuse to pay their managment fees and cry misrepresentation. The ex franchisee in question has been arriving out open days to harrass and deter potential new franchisees, and published vast amounts of libelous information on the internet, claiming that 70% of our franchises fail (inspite of actually havin one of the best failre rates in the industry, at around 12%), as well as numerous other untrue and defamatory statements about the products and equipment we use. WE believe the ex-franchisee in question is being funded to do so by our competitors - he was seen speaking with the managment around a week after leaving our network, and has consistently devoted all of his time for almost a year and a half now, to harming our brandname - frequently travelling hundreds of miles to sabotage open days and spending hours on the phone each week harrassing our franchisees in the process, despite apparently having no income. The damage done to our business is epic, and we are now on the verge of bankruptcy and don't have the funding to pursue ex-fran in question. Surely there must be some legislation to protect us?????? more

i graduated in 2006, have been working in legal for 3 years until now, however i didnt study law, and not intend to do so in the future either, so the questions is, if i look for job in another industry, then i will be paid like a fresh graduate, start from 0, i may not even able to afford to live in this city, expenses now is a lot higher than 3 years ago. specially renting price. but if i stay where i am, feels it's wasting my time, i wanna do marketing, my current work isnt related to marketing but i can put it to GR(government relations), however if i wanna really apply for marketing job need to have a marketing degree. originally i was thinking to quite job, study for a few years, get marketing degree, but now looks like i have to find the money first, some other people say i can just get a entry-level job in marketing, start from 0, learn from job, no need to study. but i do feel like i need to be educated first. i am 25 already, dont have many years waste in wondering. applied for a postioin as marketing rep in a law firm, seems it's very strict not like other industries. and i am not a very strict person. more

Voting Question: can anyone help w/ fixing my grammar? im a international student...?

Please help... im a international student. Hewlett-Packard Company is known as world’s largest maker of personal computers and also one of the world's largest information technology companies operates in nearly every country. William R. Hewlett and David Packard found this company in 1939. HP’s Major product lines include personal computing devices, enterprise servers, related storage devices, as well as a diverse range of printers and other imaging products. They are targeting in variety of fields; households, small to medium sized businesses and as well as online distribution, consumer-electronics and office-supply retailers, software partners and major technology vendors. As a world’s largest information technology company, there are still few problems that company is facing. Few of the problems that HP is facing are drop in sales, decline in imaging and printing group avenue, and decline in software revenue. One of the major problem that HP is facing is that drop in sales. HP saw its sales dropped 19 percent to $8.19 billion: PCs, Printers, Servers, and Software. There are some possible reasons why the sale has declined due to possible economic crisis, quality of products, trend of new technologies, and other competitors in the market. By looking at an evidence of constant drops of HP’s sales, there are some possibilities that HP’s sales wouldn’t improve in anytime soon. At this point, serious action must be taken to solve this problem. There are many ways to solve the issues starting from switching the locations/territories, and plan a better advertisement/marketing strategy. But my recommendation to this solution is to improve products and sales by managing the relationship between development and sales team, and catch up with the new trend of the technologies and hit the market with the new product that has same benefit, much more convenient, and more affective compared to PC products. To support my thought of recommendation, besides looking at the formal graph of statistics, we can easily find the mobile phone that has same function as computer. According to Forrester Researcher Report, they have researched and has clearly announced with their back up evidence that PC sales will continue to decline, much as they have for the past several years. Just by planning or making a first step into this industry will have a huge impact of HP’s future. more

Resolved Question: Do the fading generations conservatives need the young world liberals?

Resolved Question: Why do we tolerate Trade Unions AT ALL?

These are entities, who are unabashed about their goals: to maintain and whenever possible raise the price of what their members are selling (their labor). Is not this precisely, what ANTI-TRUST laws are meant to fight? It is criminal for orange-sellers, for example, to agree to ask for higher-price for their fruits -- we want them all to compete. But carpenters colluding to demand a higher rate for their work is Ok?.. And their primary method? Make it impossible -- through bullying or legislation or both -- for the buyers (employers) to buy labor from anybody else, but union-members... In other words, unions strive (some -- rather successfully) to make themselves into MONOPOLIES. We have harsh anti-racketeering Federal laws (RICO) to fight mafia's attempt to bully business for "protection" money. A thug breaking a window may be punished far more severely, if it is proven, he did it as part of a racketeering scheme -- to compel the business-owner into paying for "protection". Why aren't we applying the same laws, when union's thugs slash employer's tires during strike -- as happened numerous times during the UPS-strike of 1997, for example? http://www.cnn.com/US/9708/13/ups.early/ If, for example, our Federal Government prevented Staples and Office Depot from merging -- for fear, that the resulting entity will have monopoly hold on the office-supplies market, why does it not only allow, but ENCOURAGES the far more vital industries like healthcare, fire- and crime-fighting, transportation, education, auto-making, mining to be dominated by these price-fixing monopolies? http://www.jacksonlewis.com/legalupdates/article.cfm?aid=1634Yes, firewoman, we are a free country, but not free enough to allow two companies -- like Staples and Office Depot to merge with each other. Because we learned, that market needs competition. So, why do we fight FOR competition in the office-supplies market, but fight AGAINST it in the market for health-care services (most nurses unionized), fire- and crime-fighting (fireman and police are almost all unionized), transportation (train- and airplane crews all belong to unions, as do road-builders), and other sectors?Pfo, left unchecked the gouging can be terrible. For example, salaries of $500K are perfectly reachable for mere stage-hands at Carnegie Hall... http://gothamist.com/2009/10/20/stagehands.php more

Resolved Question: So .. You think you know quite a bit about Obama and his band of thieves?

You don't know anything yet. Read on all of this as it all comes together in the last part ... a must read! So. . . now we know, but now what does anyone do about it? This is an interesting story put together from various articles and TV shows by the British Times paper. It shows what Obama and his friends are really all about. It's not hope and change, it is money. I warn you, the first part is a little boring, but stick with it. The second part connects all the dots for you (it will open your eyes). The end explains how Obama and all his cronies will end up as multi-billionaires. (It's definitely worth the read. You will not be disappointed). A small bank in Chicago called SHOREBANK almost went bankrupt during the recession. The bank made a profit on its foreign micro-loans (see below) but had lost money in sub-prime mortgages in the US. It was facing likely closure by federal regulators. However, because the bank's executives were well connected with members of the Obama Administration, a private rescue bailout was arranged. The bank's employees had donated money to Obama's Senate campaign. In other words, ShoreBank was too politically connected to be allowed to go under. ShoreBank survived and invested in many "green" businesses such as solar panel manufacturing. In fact, the bank was mentioned in one of Obama's speeches during his election campaign because it subjected new business borrowers to eco-litmus tests. Prior to becoming President, Obama sat on the board of the JOYCE FOUNDATION, a liberal charity. This foundation was originally established by Joyce Kean's family which had accumulated millions of dollars in the lumber industry. It mostly gave funds to hospitals but after her death in 1972, the foundation was taken over by radical environmentalists and social justice extremists. This JOYCE FOUNDATION, which is rumored to have assets of 8 billion dollars, has now set up and funded, with a few partners, something called the CHICAGO CLIMATE EXCHANGE, known as CXX. It will be the exchange (like the Chicago Grain Futures Market for agriculture) where Environmental Carbon Credits are traded. Under Obama's new bill, businesses in the future will be assessed a tax on how much CO2 they produce (their Carbon Footprint) or in other words how much they add to global warming. If a company produces less CO2 than their allotted measured limit, they earn a Carbon Credit. This Carbon Credit can be traded on the CXX exchange. Another company, which has gone over their CO2 limit, can buy the Credit and "reduce" their footprint and tax liability. It will be like trading shares on Wall Street. Well, it was the same JOYCE FOUNDATION, along with some other private partners and Wall Street firms that funded the bailout of ShoreBank. The foundation is now one of the major shareholders. The bank has now been designated to be the "banking arm" of the CHICAGO CLIMATE EXCHANGE (CXX). In addition, Goldman Sachs has been contracted to run the investment trading floor of the exchange. So far so good; now the INTERESTING parts. One ShoreBank co-founder, named Jan Piercy, was a Wellesley College roommate of Hillary Clinton. Hillary and Bill Clinton have long supported the bank and are small investors. Another co-founder of Shorebank, named Mary Houghton, was a friend of Obama's late mother. Obama's mother worked on foreign MICRO-LOANS for the Ford Foundation. She worked for the foundation with a guy called Geithner. Yes, you guessed it. This man was the father of Tim Geithner, our present Treasury Secretary, who failed to pay all his taxes for two years. Another founder of ShoreBank was Ronald Grzywinski, a cohort and close friend of Jimmy Carter. The former ShoreBank Vice Chairman was a man called Bob Nash. He was the deputy campaign manager of Hillary Clinton's presidential bid. He also sat on the board of the Chicago Law School with Obama and Bill Ayers, the former terrorist. Nash was also a member of Obama's White House transition team. (To jog your memories, Bill Ayers is a Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He founded the Weather Underground, a radical revolutionary group that bombed buildings in the 60s and 70s. He had no remorse for those who were killed, escaped jail on a technicality, and is still an admitted Marxist). When Obama sat on the board of the JOYCE FOUNDATION, he "funneled" thousands of charity dollars to a guy named John Ayers, who runs a dubious education fund. Yes, you guessed it. The brother of Bill Ayers, the terrorist. Howard Stanback is a board member of Shorebank. He is a former board chairman of the Woods Foundation. Obama and Bill Ayers, the terrorist, also sat on the board of the Woods Foundation. Stanback was formerly employed by New Kenwood Inc. a real estate development company more
