Open Question: what qualifications do you need to be a zoologist in Australia?
or does anyone know how to get into the industry? moreOpen Question: In light of the Global Financial Crisis in Australia, do you think Australia is really recovering from the GFC?
In light of the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) in Australia since 2008, do you think Australia is really recovering from the GFC and do you think the Australian government is doing enough to boost employment especially in the Financial Services Industry. Furthermore, do you think there are alot of employers out there in the Australian market that are downright racistsHahaha.....I totally agree with you here moreOpen Question: People in the Real Estate industry Australia?
I am looking for a trainee-ship in real estate. I have looked on all the job sites like careerone and find it is rare to find anything listed on there. Is it appropriate to drop off resumes and cover letters to agencies? Thank-you moreOpen Question: Which degree should I pursue?
I am a college student in the South East Asian country of Malaysia; also Singapore's neighbour. Currently I'm taking up Diploma in Mass Communication, and majoring in Broadcasting (the other options I could've taken were Journalism and Public Relations). This is already my 2nd year in college and my 3rd semester here, so one more of that and I will graduate with my diploma. But lately, I've gotten very much confused and lost. A semester before, the college I'm in provided us with the opportunity to carry out a two month long internship programme. So at that time I became an intern in a sports media company, and spent time there experiencing life at work. Now, before this I had no working experience before, so this internship is sort of my "first job" if you're willing to call it as that. Anyways, after having done my internship, instead of giving me a clearer picture on what I will be it made me more confused instead. As much as I hate to say this (and trying to not sound like a spoiled rich kid), life as an intern wasn't exactly something I'm hoping for in the future. Of course I'm not trying to avoid a lifetime of struggle and pain before reaching a certain level of my career, but it's just the way I'm achieving it is something that made me think twice. The people I've been working with, and how they went about their jobs, isn't exactly what I want to have in the future (no offense to these people). They basically do production shoots, then head back to the office for post-production tasks (editing, fact finding, etc). They do almost the same thing every single week, and it goes on and on until the end of what they are working on (which is, in this case, a sports gossip programme). It's not the problem on what they're working on, but how they do so. The weekly routine, just isn't exciting enough for me. I'm the type of person who tends to see and interpret things rather differently than most people would, and express creativity freely. I also tend to think things deeper than usual, and if I'm bored I would daydream instead and have countless thoughts race through my mind. This is starting to sound like a personal rant of mine, which I hope is not. What I'm trying to say, in all honesty, is that my internship experience showed me that I can't live the life of those I've worked with right there. I want something instead which allows me to be more "free", and expressive in terms of creativity. If I'm going to have a career, I'd like to know that it would allow me to possess those criterias. I like to do non-linear video editing, something which I already like to do so before I enrolled in college, as it was a hobby of mine before all this. But it seems that if I put this aspect in working life, it's going to be less "free" and more controlled (with you required to follow instructions step-by-step on how should the edited video come out as, and apparently this is very much true in film industries where the task of editing is separated into so many parts that it's just something I wouldn't want). And with all that I've laid out right here, it all comes down to one thing. Which degree should I be pursuing? I'm going to end my college life at the end of this year, and pretty soon I'll have to figure out what I want as a career. My parents are great people, and the least that they want from me (education-wise) is that I have an overseas degree (probably either Australia or UK, I think). Don't get me wrong, I want one to, but it's a matter of which degree. And I would never want a degree if it doesn't prepare me for the working world, one that I want to look forward to for the rest of my life. From an online quiz I took, they recommended me a PhD in Liberal Arts (like political science, literature, or philosophy) because of this: "You're a great thinker and a true philosopher. You'd make a talented professor or writer." I'm not exactly sure on how true is that, especially after what I've said right here. Anyways, that's all I have to say (for now). I apologise if this isn't a question anymore, but more of a way for me to rant my feelings of confusion. I hope that what I've laid out is enough to convey to you guys on what I'm trying to ask: which degree should I pursue? moreVoting Question: My partner and i want to move to australia preferably the gold coast.?

Are race horse people in your country cruel? How do you know this as fact? In follow up to the question: Are Americans obsessed ;-) http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100613075801AAqSziT If you don't think horse racing is cruel - Do you think anything else is? Like rodeos, eventing, dressage, games, barrels etc. Have you actually gone to an event, stables or barn to see how it really works for yourself? - What do you think is cruel and do you know the facts or do you rely on second hand information? - What is an example of cruelty you have seen? - What did you do about it? ** Disclaimer - Obviously every sport has good and bad people. Which is my main argument when people give blanket answers. However Horse Racing is regulated in Australia and in my 25 years being directly in the industry, I have not seen the cruelty that people talk about in America. Our horses had huge stables, big day yards and plenty of grass and exercise, which often included swimming. Thanks for your opinions ;-)@ Amber - I respect your opinion (and I love to agree to disagree ;-) it is what makes the world go around. But I implore you to go to the track and see for yourself what it is really like. Your friends are like a chain message, where people whisper a sentence in someone's ear, by the time it gets back to the first person the message is completely different. Things get mixed up and exaggerated, not through malice, but because that is what happens. Hopefully you are able to say from my answers to you, that I sound like a compassionate horse person, not all racing people are bad ;-)************** ADD - I am genuinely surprised at how different your racing industry is from Australia! People here take the opposite view, that it costs a lot of money to train them and you "can" win a lot of money, so treat those horses right!!! Because a happy horse is what will win you a group 1 race. Here people pay big money for TB's as eventers and show horses. You can get $3000 for a good confo, uneducated OTTB, for the show ring. A lot of our Olympic riders are riding TB's, a huge chunk of our TB's are sought after when they finish racing. Even our kids here are riding TB's at pony club!********** ADD - @ ilovehorses! - We know you guys are good, you keep stealing our Melbourne Cup!!! Thank you every one @ Julie - I am horribly dismayed at what I have been hearing about the racing industry over your way. Gallop had some very eye opening comments in a question recently. I know we have bad eggs here too, but I truly never saw anything as bad as what I'm hearing. moreVoting Question: How do I convince my parents to let me go to boarding school?
My whole life my family have moved around a lot. My dad is Australian but my mum is English. I consider myself to be Australian because I was born there, even though I haven't lived there since I was 7 (I'm 14 now). I live in Scotland now. The reason we move around so much is because of my dad's job. He's a senior manager and has something to do with the oil industry (I don't know the specifics). I remember being 7 and I remember loving it there. I've since been on holiday back to Perth and I loved it then as well. Although my dad's job has a lot to do with us moving around, the reason we left Australia was because my mum didn't like it there at all. She didn't have many friends and she was generally depressed. Anyway, for a few years now I've wanted to go back to Australia. I would literally give anything to go back. My dad was open to the idea but my mum definitely wasn't... After thinking for a while I decided that boarding school might be good. I've asked my parents about it but they don't seem to take the idea seriously. Apparently it 'wouldn't be practical' because it's so far away. My mum even asked me about going to boarding school in the UK, so being away isn't the problem. It's just going so far away is. In my honest opinion though, away is away and it doesn't really make a difference how far away it is. I really need your advice in convincing them to change their minds. Remember, this is the only thing I want. I don't want so stay in Scotland. It's not where I'm from and it's not where I want to be. Please, anyone, HELP!By the way, this is the school I want to go to: http://www.ccgs.wa.edu.au/ It's the school I would have gone too if We'd stayed there... moreVoting Question: The meat industry denounced this study as flawed?
U.S. researchers reported that people who eat the most red meat and the most processed meat have the highest overall risk of death from all causes, including heart disease and cancer. Rashmi Sinha and colleagues looked at the records of more than 500,000 people aged 50 to 71 who filled out questionnaires on their diet and other health habits. "Red and processed meat intakes were associated with modest increases in total mortality, cancer mortality, and cardiovascular disease mortality," Sinha and colleagues wrote in the Archives of Internal Medicine. They divided the volunteers into five groups, called quintiles. Between 1995 and 2005, 47,976 men and 23,276 women died. The quintile who ate the most red meat had a higher risk for overall death, death from heart disease and cancer than the men and women who ate the least red meat. Barry Popkin, an expert in nutrition and economics at the University of North Carolina, said the study was unusually thorough and careful. Sinha's team noted that meat contains several cancer-causing chemicals, as well as the unhealthiest forms of fat. The U.S. government now recommends a "plant-based diet" that stresses fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Cancer experts said the study fit in with what is known from other research. "This large study provides further evidence to support the recommendations by groups such as the World Cancer Research Fund in demonstrating an association between a high consumption of red and processed meats and a increase risk of death from cancer," said Ian Olver, Chief Executive Officer of Cancer Council Australia. Eating less meat has other benefits, he said, and governments should start promoting this. For instance, farming animals for meat causes greenhouse gas emissions that warm the atmosphere and uses fresh water in excess, he said. "I was pretty surprised when I checked back and went through the data on emissions from animal food and livestock," Popkin said in a telephone interview. "I didn't expect it to be more than cars." http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE52M6UR20090323 moreResolved Question: Protecting the Australian meat industry from imported meats?

Hi all- I was wondering if someone out there could translate my English into spanish. I need this because I have a volunteer presentation in Mexico tomorrow! (I'm part of the Green Team of America we spread awareness to America and many other countries about the global environment) There I will explain my script witch is currently in english to a bunch of people who only speak spanish. This would help me out so much and I will give extra points! I have part done because my friend is a mexican native, but I didn't want her to do the entire thing. And remember renew, reuse, and recycle everything! Save the rain forest by shutting off lights and reducing the amount you drive each day =) THANKS- Danni. I know its alot sorry but I promise extra points! 1.)The home to many animals and plants the rain forest is getting cut down by man, population is growing in the world, and humans are wanting more resources that come from the forest. The rain forest is located in South America, Africa, Australia, and Asia. Approximately 6% of the entire planet is rain forest. And half the animals and plants in the entire world live here. This is a crisis but together and many volunteers we make a difference. Everyone in the world should be concerned because in approximately 20 years there will be no rainforest. 2.)Organizations such as save the rainforest, make a wish to the rainforest foundation, and hold hands planet green foundation. All organizations make good use of the money and prevent all of this from happening. 3.)The rainforest is overall picture that can go to global warming and climate change. The world is in crisis if we don’t prevent global warming. The more co2 made from everyday human life is trapped in the ozone layer. When the sun gives off its solar rays onto the earth, the solar rays become trapped in the earth. This makes climate here on earth more hotter. The causes and effects of this is polar caps in the artic melt leading to a dangerous rise in water height. CO2 build up in the air can causes no healthy breathing for humans and animals. 4.)Things we can do to help is turn off lights, don’t use air conditioner, and use less bottle sprays with co2 and other gases. Next we should try to pass laws to restrict industries and factories from preventing less amount of smog and pollution. And instead of driving use public transportation, walking, or ride bike. 5.)When we all work together and try to prevent a serious world crisis like this its possible to make a difference. Every decision we make including the small ones can all lead to completing the goal to end destroy of Rainforest and global warming. moreResolved Question: Do you think current crisis is a failure of old stale bureaucracies but not of capitalism?
Here's how I understand capitalism. A number of competing manufacturer, freedom of movement for people and businesses. Look around, half our stuff is made in China. It's like my slippers are from Spain, jacket from Australia and shorts from South Africa. Global banks and corporations coming up with fraudulent schemes to gain control of markets. Why would I get a 30 year mortgage if I could bring a bunch of workers from Zimbabwe who would build the house while being paid $200 per month. Am I the only person who feels that if it wasn't for organized crime including terrorism, freedom for anyone to live and work anywhere they want would produce an effective and progressive global economy where everyone would be better off as opposed to mafia kleptocracies? How is it possible that people who make money from the industry also regulate the industry - like banking, agriculture, automotive, oil.>>Everyone who has studied economics will know this. I'm sorry but this is demagogy. Purely from a rhetorical perspective. Before the general election I had never had a problem with a Scottish person but then again I don't exactly talk to many. Since the General Election i've had a number of Scottish people being very rude to me, I live on the welsh borders myself. I voted Conservative in the last election and am active on some Conservative pages, that doesn't give Scottish people anymore of a reason to me rude to me. I couldn't understand why the Scottish didn't vote Conservative anyway when they gained seats in England and Wales, some said as the Tories are just a bunch of English toffs, if thats so they why did the welsh vote for them? They made considerable gains in Wales. Plus Salmond of the SNP in the Scottish assembly gets up and critized Labour for not doing a deal with the Lib Dems, they would rather have colourful coalition made up of a number of parties than a stable government of which the Conservatives were offering. He then goes on to say that the Scottish are going to have to bear the Tory cuts, why should it just be the Welsh and English that pays for them? How is that fair? Don't the scottish people realise that they get treated better than the English and Welsh as it is, they get free health care for the elderly for one? Don't get that here, elderly people have to sell there homes to pay for there care. The government gives Scotland a lot of money, the SNP DEMANDED 180million pounds for the fossil fuel levy. SNP said that the oil industry in Scotland bings in 180million and its tied up in Westmisnster and the SNP want it in Scotland. 180million? How does Salmond know its that much if he doesnt see it? Also what about ... See Moregreen fuel? The oil is drilled from the North sea, just cos its brought to Aberdeen doesnt mean its owned by Aberdeen, the North sea also hits Norway, on Salmods basis, Norway should be entitled to some of that money too....? Why is it that everywhere in England and Wales Labour loses seats, except in Scotland not one seat changed hands, in fact Labour increased their percentage of the vote and don't Scottish people realise we are 843 Billion in debt? If we carried on under Labour we would have ended up like Greece, and when you do get bailout it's not for nothing, the country then becomes owned, so it's like as if Scotland would rather become owned by europe than face up to the state that the country is in and the state of the country that Labour as got us into. Someone said to me that all the good, hardworking scottish people left, went to Canada and Australia mostly, I think thats true. Plus Gordon Brown was scottish wasn't he, David Cameron is English so they vote for Gordon Brown on the basis that he's scottish even though he as indebted an entire generation. moreResolved Question: Should the U.S. and France (yes, you read that right) be spying on each others' governments?

Or did he manage to create a lifes time worth of industry for himself with his campaigning? (Did you know he flew first class to Australia for his latest rant about the plight of the aborigines? Surely an economy ticket and the remaining £5,000 going to feed the starving children of Africa would have been more prudent?) moreVoting Question: Does anyone know a u.s or canadian based entertainment industry called global one?

Why is the USA higher taxing, and less giving? In Europe, Canada, Australia, etc there may be more taxes, but the taxes are lowered for the people who earn less. They get more deductions, a higher standard deduction, and even better and less expensive drugs and health-care. Teeth-Bracers could be less expensive, but in the USA, the prices are kept artificially high since the schools admit a low number of dentists to become orthodontists. Insurance in America is a major for-profit industry. In other nations health-care is cheaper. If I had a choice of living in America or Canada, and I had to work in a job that pays $30,000, I would choose Canada. America taxes its people way too much then leaves them in the cold. Canada taxes its people but offers more ways to reduce taxable income, and their taxes go to a Pension Plan for when the person retirees (American Social Security won't be around or if it is it'll be rather hollow), and it goes toward National Health-care (unlike the USA's private insurance companies which are all about profit). Why does my country, the Imperial Capitalist States of America have to be so much worse? everything in America is just about profit. America thrives on consumer debt and extreme gluttonous profit. When oil prices in America were at their peak, so was record breaking profits for the oil industry. I think I made my point. Why does America have to be so cold-hearted and remain oblivious to the plight of its common citizens? moreVoting Question: good marketing/communication schools in southern california?(la/san diego area)?

No idea where to start?
4)The market demand curve in the nickel industry in Australia is given by Qd = 400 – 8P. The industry is dominated by a large firm with a constant marginal cost of $10 per unit. There also exists a competitive fringe of 100 firms, each of which has a marginal cost given by MC = 10 + 50q, where q is the output of a typical fringe firm. What is the profit-maximizing quantity of the dominant firm? What is the resulting market price? At this price, how much does the competitive fringe produce, and what is the fringe’s market share (i.e. the fringe quantity divided by total industry quantity)? What is the dominant firm’s market share? moreResolved Question: im a song Writer and need help?

I will anyway: As the Top Contributor with an Australian background of this section, on behalf of the residents and citizens of Australia I would like to make an international apology for an actor known as Russell Crowe. From throwing phones at hotel staff, to throwing tantrums in Britain's BBC recording station (because they said his most recent accent is more Irish than English), to being a general d*ck head. I hope that Australians will not be stereo typed in this fashion, love us for our good ones like Hugh Jackman, Cate Blanchet and Heath Ledger (truth be told he comes from New Zealand anyway). Not that his actions should stereo type the people of New Zealand in anyway shape or form as I find the people of New Zealand to be completely lovely people, hence why I'm engaged to one. If you are to boycott this remake of Prince of Theives, I hear his telling isn't that good anyway, because of this "flaming mongrel"'s actions Australia will completely respect your free will. After all it's not pirating that is really burning the future of the Australian film industry, it's d*ck head celebrities like this. Sincerely DraMuse Top Contributor, Australian representative of this section. Thanks guys for your answers, I'm going to leave the question open for a couple of more days. Cheers Doc :) Tinpanallycat ? What history book have you been reading ? moreResolved Question: Are there potentials of biotech industry in australia that can generate adequate jobs for graduates?
moreResolved Question: Question about moving to the USA.?
I'm currently still in high school, with one more year till I graduate and I want to move to the USA when I finish, or as soon as I could after finishing. I know there are ways to study in the USA, however I know how expensive that would be and I do not have the money. International student loans are given very scarcely and you need a US citizen to sign for you, and I don't have anyone to do that. I want to work in the communication industry, a journalist or something of the sort eventually. However, if completeing education in Australia in that field, would it be too hard to find employment in that area in the US? I am considering doing something like nursing if that falls through, but only because I know America is in need of RN's. I could go over as a nanny for 12 months, but that isn't a permanent solution and may even slow the relocating process down in the long run. There is the greencard lottery of course, but I was wondering if anyone knew of a definite way? I am from Australia, if that makes any difference. Thanks. moreResolved Question: Is the male who does the voice over for the current Outback Steakhouse commercials an authentic Australian?
Outback Steakhouse has some pretty tempting TV commercials rotating in the USA with tantilizing images of sizzling steaks cut extra thick and succulent steaming seafood with hot lemon butter sauce. But the male talent doing the voice over speaks with such an accentuated Australian accent, it sounds overdone and contrived -- like an accent only the dumb tourists and people who have never been to Australia or around many Austraians, would believe. To my ear, he sounds like he is seriously faking Australian and almost making Australians sound hokey and mawkish...which begs the question, "Why couldn't Outback hire a real Aussie to do their voice overs?" There are plenty of talented Australians available in the entertainment and commercial advertising industries. Or does the ad agency for Outback have some research that shows what Americans THINK sounds like an Australian (post the Crocodile Dundee mania) and so they play to that limited perception with untrained ears versus giving American audiences the real thing. Are they pandering to their audience's lack of knowledge / familiarity in this area? If you are an Australian (or know what real Australians sound like), does this voice over insult your intelligence, if even just a little bit? moreResolved Question: Brits, are you proud that so many UK actors have conquered Hollywood movies industry?
Brits are seriously challenging Americans in the films, I noticed. For example: Pierce Brosnan (James Bond, Mamma Mia, Ghost Writer, etc) Robert Pattinson (Twilight) Sam Worthington (Terminator, Avatar, etc) Christian Blade (Batman, Terminator, etc) Idris Elba ( American Gangster, 28 weeks later, etc) Hugh Jackman ( Wolverine, Australia, etc) Gerald Butler (300, PS I love you, etc) Erwan MacGreggor ( Angels and Demons, Ghost Writer, etc) Orlando Bloom ( Pirates of Caribbean) Liam Neeson ( Taken, A-Team, Clash of Titans, Schindler's list, etc) Ralph Fiennes ( Clash of Titans, The Reader, etc) Chiwetel Ejiefor (American Gangster, 2012, etc) So what do you think, Brits? Are you proud?@Pierre, you're from UK? I always thought you were Haitian because of your french name lol moreResolved Question: Advice When Moving to London?

I am now 17, 18 in a few months and I have graduated highschool and started uni doing BA Journalism. However, I don't feel this is what I want in my career future and have a desire to establish my future within fashion whether in design, marketing, business or modelling. I just love the industry. I have small opportunities available to me where I am now and I have no local universities and few national ones that offer degrees within the fashion industry and the ones that do have limited choice. So because I have citizenship, which solves a lot of problems, because I can legally work and apply for student support. I wanted advice on what to do when deciding to move countries. This is not a permanent thing - I cannot put a time limit as it all depends on what happens. I know all the London uni's that offer fashion courses but I the ones I want to do I need to be 18+ and I also need to take into account I have to work to support myself. So advice on accommodation, finding work? paid internships in fashion industry (I am not talking about up there jobs, more like working in fashion retail or interning as a model booker) I'm not some stupid girl on a whim, I've been mulling this over for months and months and I am at the stage whether I stick to a degree I know I wont use or go to London and succeed in what I love, and I will, because thats what I strive for and work so so hard for.
