Open Question: Job application- speculative cover letter advice please?

I've found a company that I'd really really like to work for, with no vacancies advertised on the website, so I'm forced into having to send a speculative application... I don't usually like doing this as I know they have a low response rate and I imagine more often than not, they get deleted without a second look from the recipient, so I want to make it stand out! I'm happy with the main body of my email, in which I've stated why I'd like to work for them and have highlighted some of my best qualities that make me an attractive employee to consider, but I just need a really catchy opening sentence (something a bit different to 'I am writing to enquire if you have any project / account manager vacancies'....) If anyone has any ideas, or personal experience of this, or could tell me what would catch your eye in a speculative job application, I'd love to hear from you! I wish to start a small part-time business from my home in Ontario, Canada. I will be offering my creative services to the general public. I no longer feel passionate about my career as an Interior Designer. I'm very artistic, creative, clever, witty and intelligent and want to capitalize on that. Voting Question: Careers, majors, personality?!?

Well, I consider myself quiet and observant, kind, generous, creative...however, i can see myself doing well in different kinds of jobs. This is so hard to choose what you want to do and what you are called to do!! How do you figure it out? My fam says I'd make a good lawyer-because I argue very well/sharply...am a sharp person. Some say I'd make a good doctor-because I like "researching/investigating" and helping people, again sharp lol. I thought about being an investigator/agent/detective etc-because I like to investigate, observe, and yes, I am kinda inquisitive lol. Also being a veterinarian or other animal-related field-because I adore animals a lot. Advertising-I like quotes, metaphors, and slogans and the whole creativity thing! I used to do ballet, so yes, I like dancing. Right now I'm interested in performing arts. Many think I am a great performer. That's why acting is so great, you can be everything! I graduated in December with a Biology degree. I have no job experience other than an internship that I did overseas as a clinical assistant. I have applied for over 100 jobs since December and got only two calls and an interview. The only positions that I can apply to since unfortunately, you need a degree or certificate to work into a specific health position, are medical office assistant/receptionist/secretary, medical technician, or lab assistant. I have been working in film/television/commercial production for 10 years. I decided that I want to make a jump to creative and find a position with an ad agency. My artwork has been featured on three networks, I have also designed graphics for some other big name brands, and I have won a couple of big contests... including one for Adobe. I have a couple of questions and I hope that I can get some good answers: 1. Does anyone have or know of any good sample resume from creatives in Ad Agencies? 2. So confused now with applying for uni's, I want to be creatively and academically fulfilled. I love reading and writing stories, yet I love learning about society in terms of sociologically and psychologically. Languages are also appealing I have done spanish in high school and got B and try to learn other languages myself. I love making videos and taking pictures accepting things then question them. I'm selling a few collectible anime toys (stuff I've bought at previous comic cons) to pay for my move across state so every penny I make off this sale counts. I don't have a lot of merchandise and I have a very short time frame. Resolved Question: How to start off in Graphic Design?

I've put aside creativity for a few years now. I was a photography major and had work published in my college magazine and also on display in an art show. I was then accepted into a bigger photo school, but got nervous and backed out. So I went a few years trying to find something else to settle into. Currently I'm taking Nursing prereqs and it couldn't be more wrong for me. I'm not good at science, I put so many hours into it and am lucky if I get a B on a test. So I have been thinking a lot about going back to the arts. I'm interested in advertising and would like to someday be part of the team that comes up with the ideas for the ads. Where do you start off is my question? Should I start in Graphic Design, work my way up to Art Director and then maybe to Creative Director, if lucky? What is the best approach to attain a creative position in an advertising team? Also, what programs should I use on my mac and is taking classes at the local community college a good start, or do a lot of designers build a portfolio on their own? Hello everyone. I am a family man and am currently studying for my BBA in marketing. Right now I am working as a route courier which makes pretty good money, but the gas costs are killing my profits. I am looking for suggestions for jobs that I may be able to get while studying for my degree. Something around $18 an hour or so. Preferably something with on the job training since I am already in school for my career. I have a HS diploma and advanced computer skills, creative writing skills, musical composition skills, and creative conceptual skills (excellent at coming up with anything creative which is why I chose marketing/advertising). This will be long but bare with me please! Well first thing's first, I'm 15 years old, and i dropped out of school in 7th grade and haven't done anything since. Big mistake, in about 10 months when i turn 16 i will be going to a community college to study for my G.E.D. But before that, i've got to get my license, so i can get there. I then have to get a job to help with tuition and keep gas in the car, and to help my family, because right now were in bad shape. I then have to decide what i want to do with my life, so i can take classes and find colleges/schools to go to to major in my profession, while i get my G.E.D of course. Long story short, i have all of these things that i am told i am good at or could have a career in, all of which i love The one i favor in particular is singing. I love it, i know it's unrealistic, and is one of the hardest careers i have to choose from, to get involved in. So, i'm kind of ruling that out, even though i know that will always be what i'll love the most. I love art / drawing. It is a great outlet for me, and i know it isn't that hard to get into with the right tools and enough practice/skill. I could do advertising, be and art teacher, anything. And there are art schools everywhere. I love photography, everywhere i'm going i see a piece of an amazing photo somewhere. I would love to be a photographer, I'm not sure how good i am at taking pictures, i just love too. Which brings me to directing, i love making short videos and what not. I also love to write. Author wise, that is. I have creative ideas that i think most people can relate too. And fantasy of course. I love designing things, interior or fashion, i've done this for parties and am told it looked good. I also ADORE cosmetology. as in makeup hair and nails. That is the second hardest profession for me to get into, yet the second best thing i love to do. I would love to go to new york and what not, and do makeup for major movie stars and things like that. I love working with people, i can't sit still for long, i'm very energetic and creative, i'm also very shy, but i get over it quickly. And i want to be on the go everyday, in a big city, and have a job i would love doing. Something major or glamorous if you will. I know everyone does, but i think i could make this work with the right decisions. Thank you all so much!
