Voting Question: what could be wrong here?

for the past month or so, i've been having the urge to urinate frequently (1-2 times an hour) and getting up at night to go. now theres a couple other things thrown in the mix. in the past few days I have developed a sore throat, a one sided pain in my lower back (left of the spine) which intensifies if I move just the right way, and a pain that comes and goes in my groin which sometimes radiates to just one leg. I work in the automotive collision repair industry and am exposed to alot of different solvents and chemicals. Any thoughts as to what this might be or if there is any cause for concern? more

Resolved Question: Fuel Consumption of Chevrolet Beat? The answer by Chevrolet Sales India-HEAD:?

This has reference to your email dated 18 June'2010 regarding the Chevrolet Beat. First of all, again, we would like to inform you fuel consumption of a vehicle is a subjective and variable phenomenon, which, apart from other factors, depends on factors such as vehicle size and segment, road condition, traffic condition, tyre pressure, acceleration pattern, fuel quality, driving habit, maintenance, use of air conditioner etc. Further, given such extremely large number of variables on which fuel consumption standards of a vehicle is dependant upon, quite a few of them being subjective, incapable of objective determination such as driving habits etc., again for obvious reasons, naturally and expectedly, there cannot be an agreement, or for that matter, a representation of a specific figure or numeral of fuel consumption standard irrespective of and without heed and regard to such extremely large number of variables, quite a few of them, as stated, being quite subjective, upon which the fuel consumption of an automobile vehicle is dependent upon. That it is to be further kept in mind that such a variable phenomenon is bound to be different in different circumstances. In city traffic conditions where the vehicle has to perform in stop and go and adversarial traffic conditions, the fuel consumption to be emanated, depicted and displayed by any vehicle is bound to be less in comparison to it being driven on a clear highway where fuel consumption is bound to show its superiority in a marked way. Further, we would also like to state that Chevrolet Sales India does not claim any mileage but only represent the tests conducted by independent bodies such as Automotive Research Association of India and other leading automobile magazines such as Autocar and Overdrive. Devender Vats Head - Customer Assistance Center Chevrolet Sales India, Gurgaon *e-mail - gmi.cac@gm.com I wish to understand the meaning of this reply. If the automotive industry cannot commit fuel consumption of its products, then why do they get it tested - just for cheating innocent Indian citizens. more

Voting Question: What do you guys think about female mechanics?

I know a couple of ladies (including myself) who have copped a lot for being mechanics. Being part of the automotive industry (a man's game) tends to make us the subject of a lot of sexism. Just wondering what the men out there thought?GRUMPY - At my workshop (RAC), we have to use gloves, which is a good thing. Saves time by not having to wash hands. Just chuck them on when working on the car and rip them off when done. That way, we don't get the customer's car dirty. more

Resolved Question: Do you like Obama and his administration?

I absolutely love him, I hope he screws up the country beyond all recognition so that life as we know is never the same!!!! In SHAMBLES!!! Complete disarray, United slums ghetto of America? That's the plan isn't it? To destroy the country from within? To leave the people so dependent on government that they can take care of themselves and have to rely on the establishment for everything?? Resolved Question: Do you believe marijuana should be legalized and why or why not?

-It does not kill brain cells, that is only due to the lack of oxygen, not that you have to hold the smoke in. -Will lower crime rate; less drug dealers and illegal importing. -Not physiologically addictive, but some users may become psychologically addicted, just like some alcohol users. -Not cancerous, in fact helps some cancer patients and other people with illnesses, like epilepsy for example. -Like other drugs, some minors will try and use daily, but this situation can be handled and controlled just as if a kid was shooting heroin. -Responsibility- make a legal age for smokers, and use responsibly like alcohol. -Will increase profit for the country, and possibly other industries such as paper and even automotive industries. *I am not a smoker myself, but have used very few times. I am not an idiot (at least I don't believe so). So if there is anything else that concerns you, I'll add more information in additional details. Based on all of this information, what was your view before you read this, and what was it after?*Good answers. My response for some is that, well yes, it should be severely regulated, like have a card that will register when and how much you bought. Only be used once every certain amount of days or weeks. And someone mentioned something about cars. There should be some "marijuana breathalyzer"- if someone is high, the car will not start . And also for others who just smoke all day, responsibility is big with this. They need to be able to have control and not let it take over. I realize some people lose control easily, but responsibility and other factors are heavily involved. more

Voting Question: Automotive section: Question about interview appearance!?

Yes this is a question about my appearance but I would really value the opinion of those employed or interested in the automotive industry. I have an interview for a position involving working on cars, including detailing and repairs, among other things. I want to know if you have any advice on any do's and don't you have regarding my appearance at this meeting. I want to present myself well and convey to my interviewer that I am the best choice for this job. I realize that appearance is only one aspect of an interview, but it's the area that I'm least certain on. I have already trimmed my nails short and removed nail polish. I'm planning on wearing knee length grey shorts with a white sleeveless top. Please give me any tips that you have, because this is a wonderful opportunity for me and I want to give it my very best effort. Thank you! more

Resolved Question: Please help with my career decision!?

I have a big career decision ahead of me. I work at a consulting firm - love it because it provides a lot of variety in work. However, I have reached a stage now where I need to specialize in 1 industry. I have a choice - the "industrial" space (automotive, manufacturing, energy, etc.) OR the tech/telecom space. The tech/telecom space is very interesting, can be sexy with the latest stuff, but I don't like the people in the client team and our consulting team - they are workaholics (won't think twice about scheduling 8am calls on *weekends*), very heirarchical, and the work will involve an endless quest to please a very picky client (like dating a bitchy girl). ON THE OTHER HAND, the industrial space is less sexy, but fairly innovative, and the people are not as crazy. Of course, industrial work also tends to be in the midwest, sometimes in totally barren places, unlike the tech/telecom work which will take me to big cities on the east and west coast. Prospects for moving up are probably easier with industrial because there's less competition and because they don't have this "assumed importance" like the tech/telecom guys. Which one would you pick? Please help me make a decision. BTW, I'm single in my mid-30s, so don't have a wife/family to think about yet (but working on finding the right girl soon hopefully :)). Thank you and I will really appreciate your help. more

Resolved Question: Do you think current crisis is a failure of old stale bureaucracies but not of capitalism?

Here's how I understand capitalism. A number of competing manufacturer, freedom of movement for people and businesses. Look around, half our stuff is made in China. It's like my slippers are from Spain, jacket from Australia and shorts from South Africa. Global banks and corporations coming up with fraudulent schemes to gain control of markets. Why would I get a 30 year mortgage if I could bring a bunch of workers from Zimbabwe who would build the house while being paid $200 per month. Am I the only person who feels that if it wasn't for organized crime including terrorism, freedom for anyone to live and work anywhere they want would produce an effective and progressive global economy where everyone would be better off as opposed to mafia kleptocracies? How is it possible that people who make money from the industry also regulate the industry - like banking, agriculture, automotive, oil.>>Everyone who has studied economics will know this. I'm sorry but this is demagogy. Purely from a rhetorical perspective. It's like saying Everyone who took engineering knows my bridges are the best :) Adam Smith would disagree, or Marx - they were economists as far I know. more

Resolved Question: Where can I find information on how to build a Bobber from a Honda or Yamaha doner?

Im really into the custom Bobber motorcycles and am interested in building one of my own. I currently have a CBR 900rr, and have had a few motorcycles in the past so I'm not new to riding. I've got a strong background in the automotive industry so I know my way around tools and engines and what not. I would just buy an old Honda and attempt the build but I prefer to plan things out before I begin. Are there any good resources that have almost even a step by step or something similar to where I would be able to get some guidance and to know what I need to do to achieve this Bobber look? What is the best bike to use as a doner as far as ease of access, parts availability, simplicity? I want my bobber to be very clean and streamlined so I want a doner that I'll be able to hide wires, break lines, ect so the bike will look as clean as possible. Any suggestions? more

Voting Question: Can the government force you to patronize an industry?

I accept I must be able to cover accidents be it medical or automotive, but how can I be forced to condone a company I do not believe in allowing them to profit off me. If the government forces us to have car or medical insurance should there not be non-profit agencies available. I do not think insurance is ethical, profit off misfortune of others and want to exercise my consumer power, the only power granted to me, since voting does nothing against these insurance lobbyists. I know what the law is but why do we not make laws not favor a certain industry? I am not interested in giving these people profits, so why I am forced to?You can not seperate health from car from tornado insurance. They are all to protect us from accidents and prevent that cost from being passed to someone not involved. If we did not have car insurance that medical and property damage would be passed, like when states of emergency are declared and we help rebuild new orleans, rebuild from fires, floods, bad harests. Insurance companies would not be in the business if it were not profitable sooooo someone is not getting their monies and I know it is me. Can they force me to pay the cost of others in a method besides taxes by making companies profitable not because they are good, but because we must or get fined or jailed. more

Resolved Question: Why such heavy requirements for a college degree?

I am curious as to general opinion why most companies select position candidates based on a college degree as compared to years of practical experience? From a financial aspect, an experienced individual may command a higher entry salary, however, the practical experience should offset the cost by reducing the time of the learning curve as well as provide a source for historical information attained at other organizations. This situation happens quite often in the business and manufacturing worlds. For example, I have worked with a major automotive manufacturer for over ten years. This manufacturer will not hire anyone (low level to upper management) without a degree, period. However, they currently have people in positions that significantly affect the financial success of the company, simply because they have a degree. There are individuals that have degrees in Physical Education, Literature and Psychology performing duties in areas of quality and engineering. How does this make business sense? The degree got them in the door, however, their practical experience acquired has allowed them to skate by to this point. Does this not support the argument of practical experience over classroom experience? After all, anyone currently functioning in a given industry would conceivably be up-to-date with current technology in any regard. Some Thoughts Please................. more

Resolved Question: By Electing Obama, did we elect George W Bush once more after America pledged "Never again"?

Obama: Corporate fascist, because he supported the automotive industry with the people's money, in order to keep big business afloat to the benefit of no one Bush: kept banks open with stimulus money, and while I highly agree with this, the banks should've been nationalized, not kept into private hands (it is basically telling the private management of those banks "it's okay to screw up") Obama: no change in course in Iraq, escalation of Afghanistan Bush: started these two wars Obama: exact same position on NAFTA and illegal immigration as Bush the list goes on and on and on@Jimmy: no, I don't vote for either Political party. if I voted for Obama and called him a leftist, I'd be lying to myself. more

Resolved Question: If Obama's taking over the auto industry was Marxist, then when do I get my check from GM or Ford in the mail?

Truth is, there is nothing Marxist at all about Obama; in fact, since the bailout only benefited those working for GM and GM alone, at our expense, you can argue it's corporate kleptocracy--because if it was communism or socialist, there'd be a check with my name on it from GM coming in the mail. but there isn't. so was Obama's automotive industry bailout simply corporate fascism?@Hmmm: in state owned enterprises, this is what they do in theory; so far, the only communist country that actually does this is Vietnam under Doi Moi; every other communist country just bastardizes the ideology for their own personal gain. more

Okay, so my Social Studies class is having a debate. One side (the "boomers") wants to build more factories and do more business to help raise the economy. The other side, (the "doomers"), disagrees with the boomers and wants to be more eco-friendly, because doing more business could hurt the planet more. I'm put in the boomer side. We are trying to get ways to help the economy but also be eco-friendly. My topics are tourism (mostly for Michigan because that's the state we live in) and cars/ automotive industry (of course for michigan since we have gm and all that). And think about pollution and such that we could do something about but also do business. Got any ideas or arguments? more

Voting Question: Can you rephrase these few sentences below so that it would not be considered plagiarism?

In order for the United States government to bail out the automotive industry, they needed money that they did not have so they had to borrow the money from foreign countries. The United States had to borrow $130 billion from foreign countries that will eventually have to be repaid with interest. That means if even if the auto industry does recover, they will spent much of the money they get repaying their debt to foreign countries, so the money would be just going towards into other countries economy.let me change that too "may you" please I really need the help thanks guys more

Resolved Question: is America as we knew it gone?

American Capitalism Gone With (only) A Whimper (by Stanislav Mishin - April 2009) It must be said, that like the breaking of a great dam, the American descent into Marxism is happening with breath taking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless sheeple, excuse me dear reader, I meant people. True, the situation has been well prepared on and off for the past century, especially the past twenty years. The initial testing grounds was conducted upon our Holy Russia and a bloody test it was. But we Russians would not just roll over and give up our freedoms and our souls, no matter how much money Wall Street poured into the fists of the Marxists. Those lessons were taken and used to properly prepare the American populace for the surrender of their freedoms and souls, to the whims of their elites and betters. First, the population was dumbed down through a politicized and substandard education system based on pop culture, rather than the classics. Americans know more about their favorite TV dramas than the drama in DC that directly affects their lives. They care more for their "right" to choke down a McDonalds burger or a Burger King burger than for their constitutional rights. Then they turn around and lecture us about our rights and about our "democracy". Pride blind the foolish. Then their faith in God was destroyed, until their churches, all tens of thousands of different "branches and denominations" were for the most part little more than Sunday circuses and their televangelists and top protestant mega preachers were more than happy to sell out their souls and flocks to be on the "winning" side of one pseudo Marxist politician or another. Their flocks may complain, but when explained that they would be on the "winning" side, their flocks were ever so quick to reject Christ in hopes for earthly power. Even our Holy Orthodox churches are scandalously liberalized in America . The final collapse has come with the election of Barack Obama. His speed in the past three months has been truly impressive. His spending and money printing has been a record setting, not just in America 's short history but in the world. If this keeps up for more than another year, and there is no sign that it will not, America at best will resemble the Weimar Republic and at worst Zimbabwe . These past two weeks have been the most breath taking of all. First came the announcement of a planned redesign of the American Byzantine tax system, by the very thieves who used it to bankroll their thefts, losses, and swindles of hundreds of billions of dollars. These make our Russian oligarchs look little more than ordinary street thugs, in comparison. Yes, the Americans have beat our own thieves in the shear volumes. Should we congratulate them? These men, of course, are not an elected panel but made up of appointees picked from the very financial oligarchs and their henchmen who are now gorging themselves on trillions of American dollars, in one bailout after another. They are also usurping the rights, duties, and powers of the American congress (parliament). Again, congress has put up little more than a whimper to their masters. Then came Barack Obama's command that GM's (General Motors) president step down from leadership of his company. That is correct, dear reader, in the land of "pure" free markets, the American president now has the power, the self-given power, to fire CEOs and we can assume other employees of private companies, at will. Come hither, go dither, the centurion commands his minions. So it should be no surprise, that the American president has followed this up with a "bold" move of declaring that he and another group of unelected, chosen stooges will now redesign the entire automotive industry and will even be the guarantee of automobile policies. I am sure that if given the chance, they would happily try and redesign it for the whole of the world, too. Prime Minister Putin, less than two months ago, warned Obama and UK 's Blair, not to follow the path to Marxism, it only leads to disaster. Apparently, even though we suffered 70 years of this Western sponsored horror show, we know nothing, as foolish, drunken Russians, so let our "wise" Anglo-Saxon fools find out the folly of their own pride. Again, the American public has taken this with barely a whimper...but a "free man" whimper. So, should it be any surprise to discover that the Democratically controlled Congress of America is working on passing a new regulation that would give the American Treasury department the power to set "fair" maximum salaries, evaluate performance, and control how private companies give out pay raises and bonuses? Senator Barney Frank, a social pervert basking in his homosexuality (of course, amongst the modern, enlightened American societal norm, as well as that of the gener more

Resolved Question: supercavitation technology applied to cars?

anyone think that its possible to utilize the supercavitation technology from torpedos in the automotive industry? surely it could at least lower the air density, reducing drag and fuel consumption, while travelling at speed. It could be used to keep motorcyclist dry and bug free, and increase the top speed of sports cars. what are the technical limitations?I dont a little research. I dont agree with you about the fact that supercavitiation cant happen in a gas. It my understanding that when gas flows particularly at high speeds it behaves as a liquid. certainly from a kinetic perspective that makes sense. the reason why I think that supercavitiation hasn't been utilized is that the atmosphere is too highly compressible and the speeds at which we travel aren't great enough. I imagine that we can push the air out of the way ahead of a moving vehicle but we cant get the vehicle into that space before the air particles return.that's 'I did a little research' more

Resolved Question: When oh when is the Obama administration going to save us money instead of costing us money and jobs?

EPA’s new fuel economy mandates—more job killing regulation http://www.instituteforenergyresearch.org/2010/04/01/epas-new-fuel-economy-mandatesmore-job-killing-regulation/ As if disregarding the will of the American people on the health care bill wasn’t enough, the Administration today announced that Americans don’t make the “proper” choices about the cars they drive. That might sound like an April Fool’s joke, but the Administration isn’t kidding. Instead of allowing the American people to choose the cars that best fit their safety, convenience, size, and fuel economy needs, the Obama Administration announced today that the federal government is better equipped to make those choices, and will require that new cars and light trucks get an average of 35.5 miles per gallon by 2016. As a result, each vehicle will cost over $1,100 more and more autoworkers will lose their jobs. The real joke? This policy will have zero impact on carbon emissions or climate change—its purported goal. Why Limit American’s Automobile Choices? For decades, Americans have had the option to purchase fuel efficient vehicles. Twenty-five years ago, Honda produced the Civic Coupe HF, which got 40 mpg in the city and 48 on the highway. But when it comes to making choices about vehicles, it turns out that fuel economy is just one of many factors Americans use to make their car purchase choices. Americans also want cars that are comfortable, safe, practical, and fun to drive. Over time, cars have become bigger, quicker, and more comfortable, while at the same time retaining decent fuel economy. Consider the following table[1] that compares today’s cars to the same version from 25 years ago. In every case, the fuel economy is similar even though the 2010 version of each car is larger, the engines are larger, the cars have more passenger volume, and provide more luggage volume. Interestingly, the 2010 versions generally get slightly worse city fuel economy and slightly better highway fuel economy. Moreover, when the government mandates fuel economy improvements, car makers are forced to make sacrifices in other areas, such as comfort, size, or power. What’s wrong with automakers building cars that the American people want? Should auto manufacturers really be forced to produce the cars the Obama Administration thinks we should have? This mandate will increase the cost per vehicle between $1,100 and $5,000 per vehicle It certainly is possible to build cars that meet the president’s mandate with similar features—but they will be more expensive. Automakers have the technology to build cars out of exotic materials that make them lighter and more fuel efficient, but those materials are very costly. In a best-case scenario, the Obama Administration says that its regulation will increase the price of a car by $1,100 per vehicle. [2] Other estimates are much higher—a study by Global Insight found that this kind of regulation would increase power-train costs by $1,000 for small cars and $5,000 for larger vehicles. [3] This mandate will likely destroy 50,000 jobs in the auto industry During the Bush Administration, the National Highway Transportation Administration estimated that imposing a mandate similar to Obama’s would destroy 50,000 jobs in the automotive industry.[4] The reason is simple—if cars are more expensive, people will hold on to the cars they already have longer. That means, overall, car companies will sell fewer new cars. This mandate will likely result in more deaths in traffic accidents In addition to killing American jobs, this mandate will come at a cost of American lives. A 2002 study from the National Research Council found that the federal government’s Corporate Average Fuel Economy mandate contributed to 2,000 deaths per year. This may sound shocking, but the fact is this: there is a tradeoff between fuel economy and safety. Smaller, lighter cars are generally more fuel efficient than larger, heavier cars. Cars have become safer, but today’s small, fuel efficient cars are still more dangerous than other cars in two-car frontal offset collisions, even against medium sized cars. http://www.instituteforenergyresearch.org/2010/04/01/epas-new-fuel-economy-mandatesmore-job-killing-regulation/"cut and paster i know your a foxbot but do try to think" Attack the messenger, but not the message. Resolved Question: Is this a good way to make the economy grow?

I have noticed a lot of middle eastern countries right now are going through aggressive construction projects. I happen to run into this one in saudi arabia called "king abdullah economic city" I will post a quote about it ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overview With a total development area of 173 km² (66.8 sq mi), the city is located along the coast of the Red Sea, around 100 km north of Jeddah, the commercial hub of the kingdom, the city is also going to be approximately an hour away from the holy Islamic cities of Mecca and Medina by car. And as reportedly an hour away of all Middle Eastern capital cities by plane. The total cost of the city is $80 billion (around SR 300 billion), with the project being built by Emaar, The Economic City. A Tadawul-listed company created from Emaar Properties, a Dubai-based Public Joint Stock Company and one of the world’s largest real estate companies, and SAGIA (Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority) which is the main facilitator of the project. The city, along with other five economic cities, is a part of an ambitious "10×10" program to place Saudi Arabia among the world’s top ten competitive investment destinations by the year 2010, planned by SAGIA. The first stage of the city is planned to be completed in 2010, while the whole city is going to be fully completed by 2020. The city will help diversify the oil-based economy of the kingdom by bringing direct foreign and domestic investments. The city also will help create up to one million jobs for the youthful population of the country, where 40% of the population are under 15. City Components Industrial Zone The Industrial Zone is estimated to cover 63 million m². The 4,400 hectares of land will be dedicated to industrial and light manufacturing facilities - identified as key growth drivers for the Saudi economy - and can now host 2,700 industrial tenants. The jobs created estimated to be in industrial and light industries (330,000); research and development (150,000); business and office (200,000); services (115,000); hospitality (60,000) and education and community services (145,000). The "Plastics Valley" planned within the zone will use raw materials readily available in Saudi Arabia to produce high-end plastics used in automotive, biomedical, construction and food packaging industries. Sea Port The Sea Port is estimated to cover 13.8 million sq meters, it will be the largest in the region with a capacity of over 10 million*twenty-foot equivalent units*(TEU) of containers per year. The port will have facilities to handle cargo and dry bulk, and will be equipped to receive the world’s largest vessels. Another key component of the Port will be a custom-built Hajj Terminal with a capacity to handle up to 300,000 pilgrims on their way to Mecca and Medina, the holy Muslim cities. Residential Areas The residential area is planned to include 260,000 apartments and 56,000 villas. It will be divided into smaller residential, commercial, and recreational areas. Parks and green spaces will be used extensively throughout the residential area. The area is estimated to be home for around half a million residents, and another ten thousand tourists. Each district would feature its own public amenities, such as mosques, shops and recreational venues. Sea Resort The Resorts Area will be designed to feature services and amenities, hoping to draw both local and international tourists. Set to become a major destination on the map of Saudi Arabia and the map of the Middle East as a whole. It will include hotels, shopping centers and other recreational facilities. The number of hotel rooms and suites are proposed to be 25,000 hotel rooms in more than 120 hotels. Among the tourist draws at the resort is an 18-hole golf course, with training facilities and driving range. An equestrian club, yacht club and a range of water sports will also be constructed. Educational Zone The Educational Zone is a part of plan to bring the Saudis capabilities and aspirations in technology to globally competitive levels. The Educational Zone is planned to consist of multi-university campus flanked by two Research & Development parks. The multi-university campus is designed to accommodate 18,000 students, and a 7,500 faculty and staff members. Central Business District The Central Business District (CBD) is planned to offer 3.8 million m² of office space, hotels and mixed-use commercial space. The Financial Island, within the CBD, has now been doubled in area to cover 14 hectares of land, which will be the largest regional financial nerve center for the world’s leading banks, investment houses and insurance groups. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This project cost 80 billion dollars! That is a lot of money. Do you guys think this is a good way to make the economy grow more
