I have decided to go back to school but I seem to be confused about what major to go for . There are so many things I would love to be but dont think it will be worth pursuing . While in High school I took some business classes with the desire to pursue advertising and/or entrpeneurship . i liked it butThen i told myself unless you find a job with a big firm( advertising) I will be barely making it . So i said to myself maybe i should be an interior designer but I dont think i will be able to make decent money ( dont know if i am wrong ). So now I am going for a degree in finance but i hate it because I hate sitting at a desk all day with just numbers and statistic. I am also good with my hands , i love love working on people , making them look good, hair and beauty ,make up stuff. I am the one my friends call for help . most of them think i should be crazy for not pursuing that , but i myself dont see myself doing cosmetology for a career . I am a pretty creative person ,I love helping people . I hate working at a desk all day I was a loan processor for 2 years and hated it . I received a flyer for hair extensions in my mailbox that claimed that "95% of men prefer women with long beautiful hair" (it also pictured a scantily clad woman caressing herself with her hair covering her breasts) It didn't name a source for the statistic which I thought was interesting so I emailed the company to ask where they gained that information. She said they conducted a survey amongst 1000 people who were either clients or friends/family of clients & that is where they configured that statistic. I find this to be highly irresponsible as the flyer does not indicate any of this, it seems to represent the majority of the male population when only a small survey was conducted amongst a biased group of people. Do you think this is false advertising? I think they should have least disclosed the information of the survey on their flyer if they're going to use that information.I just thought it was misleading & aimed at people with low self esteem. Given that mankind were all builders and farmers...creators of things, it is of little wonder that when trying to make sense of "Creation", everyone truly believed that to create something, there must be a creator. When the early builders decided to build a town, the first thing they built, before a bakery, before a house, before all....was a church, a place to recognise what they saw as the best maker of stuff ever heard of, this is why churches are the oldest buildings in any given settlement. Most people these days, and for the last 3 generations really, have careers or jobs that produce.....nothing. How many people work in call centres, with no product at the end of their working days, except for the movement of money, from one place to another? How many in marketing and advertising, selling "Airtime" or "Space" with no tangible results, except the rise in sales of a given product, generally a product that is not essential to your life, because such products need no advertisment, and again, the shift in money. How many in banking....where money is quite literally created from nothing, and sold to our governments with attached debt, that our children's children will be paying off...with no tangible beneficial....solid product at the end? Advertising Encourages Youth to Embrace Negative Gender Stereotypes The media today displays many aspects of the human physique in negative ways. It is quite apparent that youth currently are being affected harmfully both mentally and physically due to the fact that advertisements are bombarding them with negative gender stereotypes. Encouraging students to embrace these negative qualities gives them the obsession to find that ideal body type to fit that advertisement description with any means possible. Secondly, this makes youth feel that embracing the negative stereotypes, even if it goes against their own morals, allows them a sense of fitting in with this society. For these reasons, advertising in today’s materialistic world promotes youth to embrace gender stereotypes and consequently gives them the obsession for the advertiser’s ideal body type and making it seem it is the only way to co-exist with the fad.
