Open Question: Has political correctness gone mad?
In my opinion the phrase "Political correctness gone mad" is one of the most lazy and frequently misused in all journalism. I can not count the number of times I have seen a journalist say "It's political correctness gone mad" when they are actually referring to health and safety (even in good broadsheets). An accurate definition of political correctness is sometime along the lines of: an often clumsy compromise in order to reach a mutually inclusive language. I know that sometimes it goes too far and can be quite cumbersome, but the intentions behind it are good. I have seen the difference it has made to the lives of so many. It used to be that people of ethnic minorities were routinely discriminated against in everyday conversation with derogatory and offensive terms (e.g nig*er, paki, etc). In 1969 in the Birmingham bi election in the UK the conservative party used the slogan "If you want a nig*er for a neighbour vote Liberal or Labour." Political correctness ended that endemic hatred and marginalisation, and if the only cost of that is one has to be a bit careful about using certain terms in the office, surely that is a small price to pay?I admitted it can be clumsy e.g with the kid's paper. But, I saw a whole generation of disabled and people of different races benefit. Children in schools used to be regularly racially abused; every single day. That ended! And if the only downside is one child gets an unfair detention that is a small price! moreOpen Question: Need a slogan for project!?
I am to complete a project in a loose form of a campaign poster having to do with the endocrine system. My challenge is to make my hormone sound like the most important and be voted "king of the body." I have GH, or growth hormone, which regulates growth (more specifically growth of the bones) and also has a key role in metabolism. I need a witty phrase or slogan full of guile!!! I know this is an odd task, so thanks in advance. 'Tis important to my grade. moreVoting Question: Campaign slogans for President Chester Arthur?

After all there is not much Conservative other than talk that comes from most Republicans these days. Family values or social conservatism is pretty hard to preach when you got Republicans like David Vitter, John Ensign and Mark Sanford representing the Republican leadership! As far as fiscal responsibility, that seems to be nothing more than a slogan for them, just look at the last year years, need you any more proof? There are many intelligent progressives out there who believe in many of the so called "conservative" values such as less Government or smarter more efficient Government, lower taxes and business friendly laws and regulations, also many are pro-gun rights and pro-life. There are many progressives who think that wise government spending that achieves sound and fiscal goals is worthwhile. Most of the Republicans who are currently preaching this practiced none of it when in power so why would any real Conservative vote for them again. Isn't the definition of foolish doing the same wrong thing again and again? While there are obvious problems on the Democratic party, does it pale to what the last eight years under Republican leadership gave us? moreResolved Question: If you are Conservative wouldn't voting Republican make you a hypocrite?

These people must be clearly insane or have short term memory. Labour's new slogan - Lies Lies Lies! I mean come on a Labour Manifesto Pledge means about as much as a David Cameron Cast Iron Guarantee. Pretty much worthless! Remember when Labour promised us a Referendum on the Lisbon Treaty? Remember when Labour took us in to an Illegal War? Gordon Brown was never elected, he didn't have the integrity to put his position to a democratic vote. 1. What was the greatest difference in the electorate of the late 1820s compared to the electorate at the beginning of the century? Voters in the 1820s were much better educated than those of the 1800s. More women, blacks, and Native Americans could vote in the 1820s. Many more people could vote because suffrage was almost universal for white men. There were fewer voters in the 1820s because of the property ownership requirements. 2. What were some problems that John Quincy Adams faced as president? (Points: 1) difficulty passing legislation, high tariffs, and resentment over the election Indian removal, foreign policy disputes, and a financial panic rising prices, rejection of his vice president, and his wife's death differences within his own party, increasing issues over slavery, and the loss of his father 3. Why was Andrew Jackson elected president in 1828? (Points: 1) John Quincy Adams ran an ineffective campaign. Jackson made a deal of his own with Henry Clay. People felt sorry for him because his wife died during the campaign. Jackson appealed to many voters who turned out in large numbers. 6. What issue influenced President Jackson to veto the Maysville Road Bill? (Points: 1) whether the executive branch was more powerful than the legislative branch whether internal improvements within states should be federally funded whether the will of the people would prevail whether state governments would provide financial support to the federal government 7. What word expresses the idea that a state could declare federal legislation unconstitutional and could disregard it? (Points: 1) nullification invalidation de-federalization divestiture 8. Why was it threatening to the United States that one or more of the states could declare that they would disregard federal legislation? (Points: 1) because it would make one state superior to another because it would give rich states more power than poor states because it would create the need for greater enforcement authority because such acts could dissolve the Union itself 9. What are some aspects of the modern American political party system that began during the Jackson era? (Points: 1) beginnings of political action committees and fundraising widespread campaigns for the popular vote, including fliers, slogans, and songs start of campaign tours and town hall meetings development of party platforms, joint tickets, and long speeches 10. (Points: 1) Through the efforts of Davy Crockett, they were successful in keeping their lands. They were forced to leave their lands and move westmany to Oklahoma. Six agencies withdrew, and the Houston Police Department decided not to participate. Instead, the city is considering a program called Secure Communities, also used by Harris County. It gives police access to ICE databases to help identify foreign-born criminals and work with ICE, but it does not give officers the authority to enforce immigration laws. The decision not to use 287(g) for patrol officers by both of Houston's biggest police departments stands in contrast to agencies using the program that have drawn the most attention, most notably Phoenix. There, Sheriff Arpaio has elicited protests and lawsuits for sweeps in Hispanic neighborhoods that resulted in immigration referrals for scores of people arrested on misdemeanor charges. His department has referred about 34,000 illegal-immigration cases to ICE in the past three years, a number comparable to the Harris County Jail's figure of 1,000 per month. Sheriff Garcia, who describes himself as the "proud product of an immigrant family," supports 287(g) but argues its application outside the jail would make Houston's sizable immigrant population fearful of police and reluctant to report crimes. "Immigration enforcement in the field would undermine the enforcement of Texas law," he said at the commissioners meeting. Before the hearing to extend the jail's agreement with ICE, a handful of demonstrators for and against the program shouted slogans across the street from the county offices. In the packed Commissioners Court room, 287(g) supporters noted the injuries and deaths of Houston police shot by illegal immigrants and the murder trials of four suspects, three of whom were in the country illegally, in the death of a prominent local doctor. Those testifying in opposition emphasized the potential for racial profiling and the hardship on immigrant families. Both groups cited their desire for national, comprehensive immigration reform, but it was supporters like computer consultant Larry Youngblood who seemed more in line with the commissioners, who quickly approved the agreement by a 4-1 vote. "Why would anyone complain the feds are not doing their job and then turn around and not give them the help they need?" Mr. Youngblood said. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/nov/12/team-of-8-deputies-quietly-rounds-up-illegals/?page=3 moreVoting Question: big delemaa. hellpp?!:)?

Obama is doing or has done for everyone and our country ?
I think in the end, we will all be very disappointed and find that the USA will be so seriously screwed-up in the next few years that will never vote for another black President. So far, and yes, give him some time, he just got in office, he's cleaning up George W's mess, blah, blah, blah, Obama has done nothing to help the people whatsover, tax breaks, incentives, helping businesses, job creation, etc. Obama had his chance to help all of us, instead he is doing the exact opposite and putting the screws to us and our country that things will never be the same ever again. There's nothing positive that Obama has contributed to his hope and change slogans he promised. We will all be very sorry someday. Whether you are Republican or Democrat, it doesn't matter because the ship is sinking and we are all going down together. Maybe, that's what our country needs is a wake up call... The truth of the matter is, "we've been had". People are struggling to get by, businesses are closing, and our country is on a downward spiral. We ain't seen nothing yet, wait until the inflation hits. moreResolved Question: EWA Locked In results + rate!?

Jamster did a quick low blow, Killer falls to the canvas. Jamster did the one and only shooting star prees, and took the pin. Since this idea "Anybody but Bush" led to the election of a Socialist with a superiority complex, and no actual accomplishments (except 3 different books he wrote about himself), is it possible that the phrase "Anybody But Bush" was the dumbest slogan ever? This was the standard used in electing Obama, so what does that say about the people that voted for him? moreResolved Question: WHATS a good picture or symbol.. for this slogan...?

http://www.navytimes.com/news/2009/10/navy_slogan_update_100209w/ The Navy's new slogan is "A Global Force for Good." They say that they have adopted this slogan because they want to appeal to the 17-to-25 age group, who supposedly are some kind of crazy altruists who glorify the idea of "service." I'm personally no fan of the Navy or the armed forces in general (like Thomas Jefferson, I don't think we need a military; I think the 2nd Amendment would do a sufficient job of protecting this country, if it were enforced) and I laughed at the idea of the Navy as a "Global Force for Good" when I saw this. However, I think they are fundamentally misunderstanding my generation. I don't know anybody who is attracted by the idea of "service" to others. Most people in my age group care about self-interest. The reason why most of us voted for Obama is because we think (mistakenly, I believe) that Obama's policies will be good for our interests and because we don't like the idea of "family values" all that much either. The only reason why many of my generation engaged in "community service" back in high school was because many of us were coerced to do so by the high school (I don't know anybody who actually believes that BS about the virtues of working for free). Personally, I think this slogan will be a disaster for the Navy. However, I don't feel particularly sorry for them. I think the Navy would be wise to fire the moron who sold them such a ridiculously false portrait of my generation, but I don't have any problem if they keep him because I don't want the Navy to succeed in recruiting. moreResolved Question: Why doesn't Liberal "Compassion" extend beyond slogans and bumper stickers?
Arthur C. Brooks, a professor at Syracuse University, published "Who Really Cares: The Surprising Truth About Compassionate Conservatism." ---- Although liberal families' incomes average 6 percent higher than those of conservative families, conservative-headed households give, on average, 30 percent more to charity than the average liberal-headed household ($1,600 per year vs. $1,227). -- -- Conservatives also donate more time and give more blood. -- Residents of the states that voted for John Kerry in 2004 gave smaller percentages of their incomes to charity than did residents of states that voted for George Bush. -- Bush carried 24 of the 25 states where charitable giving was above average. -- In the 10 reddest states, in which Bush got more than 60 percent majorities, the average percentage of personal income donated to charity was 3.5. Residents of the bluest states, which gave Bush less than 40 percent, donated just 1.9 percent. -- People who reject the idea that "government has a responsibility to reduce income inequality" give an average of four times more than people who accept that proposition. The single biggest predictor of someone's altruism, Willett says, is religion. It increasingly correlates with conservative political affiliations because, as Brooks' book says, "the percentage of self-described Democrats who say they have 'no religion' has more than quadrupled since the early 1970s." America is largely divided between religious givers and secular nongivers, and the former are disproportionately conservative. One demonstration that religion is a strong determinant of charitable behavior is that the least charitable cohort is a relatively small one -- secular conservatives. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/03/conservatives_more_liberal_giv.html http://philanthropy.com/free/articles/v19/i04/04001101.htm moreVoting Question: Black Team Slogan?? Yes yes, I know we are a democratic nation and we get to vote our officials into office (well the electoral college does the real voting for the president), but does our mainstream media kind of limit our choice to the lesser of two evils? I mean honestly the last non major party (Dem Rep) president was millard fillmore in 1850, I don't really consider this a freedom of choice. I recently read "The Jungle" by Upton Synclair, and I think that it really shows how these two parties are very much the same. With these parties owning the country for over a century, they are really just playing us against each other. They made us hate Clinton so that we would elect bush just because he tainted the Dem party so much. Then comes Bush and after his eight years we get another choice between the lesser of two evils(kind of blurry on which one was the lesser). I for one am tired of this bs, our forefathers didn't fight a war for independence just so that we could become complacent with choosing from two different royal families. Honestly after Obama's term(doubtful he will get two with his approval rating) we will just be sick of the Dem's and vote a republican into office; i want off of this seesaw. When will politicians who aren't affiliated with only these two parties be seriously offered besides some whack jobs that make us scared to choose outside the box. Kind of a vent I know but I am really concerned for our country and I feel that our people are being played against each other by these two groups and was wondering if anyone else felt the same way. I mean honestly give me a politician who will work for the good of the people and shrink the size of our bloated Fed gov to what our constitution says and I will vote for them every year regardless of if they have lavish campaigns and fancy slogans. moreResolved Question: Help translating something into Latin?
I'm working on a project for English in which we have to create a campaign slogan for Julius Caesar, I would like to have it in Latin if at all possible. But I don't know how to read or write Latin... So if someone could translate something along the lines of "Vote for me, or else" or "Vote for Caesar, or else" into Latin you'll get 10 points. :)) moreResolved Question: Is this a good student council speech?
Hello to all of you! My name is _____________________, running for the office of president. Take a good look at me! (turns around, paper taped on back says "Vote for Me!") Don't I look like one of those guys on the dollar bills? But....before you say yes, here's a bit you should know about me: A like the color blue, I have 2 adorable parakeets name Cookie and Apple and a fish named Panda. All that good stuff. But the next 4 qualities are what really counts: neat, organized, responisble, and open minded. As President, I will take order in the student council meetings and make fun events for the school to enjoy. My goal is to also make more spirit days so we don't have the same spirit days over and OVER again. I will do my best as President if elected. So when you get the ballot, put the little check mark next to ______________ as the clear choice for president. And if you forget my name, I look like this! (poses) Thank you for listening to my speech. So long, farewell! Help on slogan and do you think I should include a rap? More ideas for posters too! yes or no. I personally will vote for the tandem Noynoy&Mar. I do not see any other candidate that could probably match the untainted reputation of Noynoy&Mar. You can speak of the negative things about Noy or Mar for that matter. This is a free opinion poll over the internet, Filipinos for one are negative thinkers. Before they try something new they first find the negative or the bad side of everything. Which for me is also good but we try to make bad to worst, I remembered the song of Sampaguita then called 'tao' which has a portion that say "isip ay nalilito pag nakakita ng bago..lahat ng bagay sa mundo ay isang malaking tukso", and we found a joke of that lyrics(isip ay nalilito pag nakakita ng g*a*g*o). I know the negative things about Noy like he is not a tried politician, what things did he done in the Senate or being a Congressman in the past. Unlike his father who done a lot compared to him. I guess comparing the son to his father is out of context. And Noy is just riding in the popularity of her late mother(Cory) and obviously with the fame of her sister Kris. What about Mister Palengke, he is also not spared with lots of criticism isn't it? I bet you have a negative rating about Mar too. So let it all out. This discussion will focus I bet on the negativity of these two person. The only thing that drive me to vote for them is one single slogan HINDI SILA MAGNANAKAW, for me this is enough to start with than those candidates who will promise the moon and the sky but will all be nailed in the ceiling. Well if this is not enough for you then I guess you have to find your own candidate and believe in him to delivered the goods in judgement day. Thank you for all your negative & positive opinion. moreVoting Question: Advice on posters. Any tips?
