Voting Question: Why do Conservative districts consume the most PORNOGRAPHY, could this explain why "Nailn Palin" is so popular?

Porn in the USA: Conservatives Are Biggest Consumers 8 of Top 10 Porn-Consuming States Voted Republican in 2008 Presidential Election By EWEN CALLAWAY Feb. 28, 2009 Americans may paint themselves in increasingly bright shades of red and blue, but new research finds one thing that varies little across the nation: the liking for online pornography. A new nationwide study (pdf) of anonymised credit-card receipts from a major online adult entertainment provider finds little variation in consumption between states. "When it comes to adult entertainment, it seems people are more the same than different," says Benjamin Edelman at Harvard Business School. However, there are some trends to be seen in the data. Those states that do consume the most porn tend to be more conservative and religious than states with lower levels of consumption, the study finds. "Some of the people who are most outraged turn out to be consumers of the very things they claimed to be outraged by," Edelman says. Political Divide Edelman spends part of his time helping companies such as Microsoft and AOL detect advertising fraud. Another consulting client runs dozens of adult websites, though he says he is not at liberty to identify the firm. That company did, however, provide Edelman with roughly two years of credit card data from 2006 to 2008 that included a purchase date and each customer's postal code After controlling for differences in broadband internet access between states – online porn tends to be a bandwidth hog – and adjusting for population, he found a relatively small difference between states with the most adult purchases and those with the fewest. The biggest consumer, Utah, averaged 5.47 adult content subscriptions per 1000 home broadband users; Montana bought the least with 1.92 per 1000. "The differences here are not so stark," Edelman says. Number 10 on the list was West Virginia at 2.94 subscriptions per 1000, while number 41, Michigan, averaged 2.32. Eight of the top 10 pornography consuming states gave their electoral votes to John McCain in last year's presidential election – Florida and Hawaii were the exceptions. While six out of the lowest 10 favoured Barack Obama. http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/Business/story?id=6977202&page=1 more

Resolved Question: Friesians for free? Definate Scam! How do you stop them?

Yes this is a definite scam. I have contacted oodle and equinenow about this obvious scam and they say there is nothing they can do. I am sincerely looking for a horse and have been looking at the friesians. I have contacted everyone from $0 up to $2000 and they have all been a hoax. They offer the shipping and without even knowing where to send the horse they pick a number off the top of their head for the shipping ranging anywhere from $500 to $1500. When I tell them I can come pick up the horse they give me a fictitious address and when I google the address there is no such place or it is a place of business ie: flooring company, newspaper bldg, an alley way or an empty lot. When I confront them with the wrong address issues they usually give me another false address. If there is anyone out there with one for a reasonable price (one that I could afford) they are going to be hard to find because of these scammers. I spent a whole day contacting well over 20 ads and every single one of them was fictitious. People need to be made aware that nothing on oodle should be trusted. They are all fraud and people should not advertise their horses or anything else on oodle. I actually had one respond and called me an idiot because I confronted him that he gave me a fictitious address. Does anyone know how they can be stopped? more

Voting Question: need help with my assingment...?

The following memo contains 30 intentional errors in sentence structure, spelling, and proofreading. Edit the memo and print it with a 1-inch top margin. Delete these instructions. MEMORANDUM DATE:[Use current date] TO:Maria S. Damen, Vice President, Marketing [Insert handwritten initials] FROM: Ryan Jenkins, Exhibit Manager SUBJECT:REDUCING A MAJOR EXPENSE AT TRADE SHOWS As you suggested, Matthew Chavez and myself have been searching for ways to reduce our trade show exhibition costs’. One of our companys major expenses at these shows is the visitors gift that we present. At last years show we gave away a nine-color, silk-screened T-shirt. Which was designed by a high-priced New York designer. Each shirt cost $15 to produce, however, I’ve located a Chinese supplier who can produce good-looking T-shirts. For the low cost of only $4 each. Look at the savings we can make: 2,000 silk-screened T-shirts @$15$30,000 2,000 cheaper T-shirts @$4 8,000 SAVINGS$22,000 This major saving was immediatley apparent to Matthew and I, as we studied the problem. Please examine the enclosed T-shirt sample. If you compare T-shirts, you might expect a cheaper shirt to be dis-similar; but as you can see, this shirt is quiet presentable. What’s more, it advertises our name just as well as the more expensive silk-screened T-shirts. If the decision were up to Matthew or I, we would be happy to wear the cheaper shirt. With increasing travel costs and de-creasing trade show budgets, us in marketing must look carefully at how we spent the companies limited funds for exhibitions. Over the last several years,’ we have de-creased the number of shows in which we participate, we have also taken fewer booth staffers then in the passed. This is a significant place to reduce expenses. For our next major trade show, please authorize the purchase of 2,000 T-shirts. Which can save us $22,000 in exhibition costs. With managements approval before December 1, we can be sure to receive supplys from our Chinese manufacturer for the spring Las Vegas trade show. Matthew and myself look forward to your quick response. If your worried about this suggestion or need more details, please call me at Ext. 480 so that we can talk about it. Enclosure more

Winner - No contest Mick Foley comes to the ring who says that he is retiring. Retiring unless someone can persuade him otherwise. and that someone is JB. JB comes out and says it is all a lie, but he does need a tag partner right now, to take on this team. First out is Kiyoshi, JB is nodding, Foley looks surprised, Next out is... what is this, A masked fan just escapedfrom the crowd, wait... that is Sharmell, and out next is... Booker T!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mATCH 3- JB and Mick Foley vs Kiyoshi and Mick Foley As soon as the match begins, Book turns around and kicks kiyoshi, then just superkicks JB, But misses, JB legs it after taggin in Mick, then eb turns it into a 1v1 match, Later... Foley is on the top rope, when Sharmell distracts, so he turns back round, then jumps on Sharmell. then gets back in the ring to an aAXE kick, 1...2... kick out! Book goes up top, but realises what is up with Sharmell, and checks on her she tells him to get back in the ring, he runs but trips up Winner by Countout- Mick Foley Out comes AJ Styles and then Samoa Joe's music hita, but he comes out holding a lady, he gets on the mic and says ifOut comes AJ Styles and then Samoa Joe's music hita, but he comes out holding a lady, he gets on the mic and says if he wants his lady, he need sto give him his world title belt, Ric Flair low blows him freom behind and the 2, whit 2 ladies wearing heels stomp down on him. Resolved Question: If deportation of all illegals crushes the Hispanic Market, do anti-immigration folks care?

And do they have a plan to cover those billions, maybe even trillions lost to the US economy? I ask about Hispanics/Hispanic Market because they seem to only focus on them. ================================== The Growing Hispanic Market in the United States Virtually every type of company and organization in the United States is being impacted by the growth of the Hispanic population. You see it in government, healthcare, manufacturing, food service, construction, education, finance, legal, and these are just a few examples. Marketing and selling to the U.S. Hispanics has become so important that universities are offering programs on the subject. Florida State University has recently created a center for Hispanic marketing communications offering graduate certificates and undergraduate minor programs. Following are some facts for consideration: U.S. Hispanic purchasing power has surged to nearly $700 billion and is projected to reach as much as $1 trillion by 2007, nearly three times the overall national rate over the past decade. (Source: HispanTelligence®.) The top areas where Hispanics spend more than non-Hispanics are: groceries, telephone services, furniture, men’s and boys apparel, children’s clothing and footwear. (Source: Selig Center.) The U.S. Hispanic market ranks as the third largest “Latin American economy” behind Brazil and Mexico. There are more Hispanics living in the United States, than the entire population of Canada, which is 32.5 million. (Source: U.S. Census.) We are like a country within a country. Hispanic advertising by U.S. companies grew 24 percent in 2003, compared with 8.6 percent for the general market. (Source: Media Economics Group, research firm that tracks Spanish-language marketing.) By mid-century, 25 percent or one out of every four people in the United States will be Hispanic. The African American population by mid-century will remain at the current rate of 13 percent of the total United States population. (Source: U.S. Census Bureau.) An IRS report predicts that 1 out of every 10 small businesses will be Hispanic by the year 2007. Today the proportion stands at 1 in 13 and rising. Voting Question: Is this commission set up for a real estate company fair?

I am going to be getting my real estate license. I had an interview/spoke with the top company im the NY capital district. They are the best however im wondering if their fees/commission percentages are fair. They want 28% to the real estate company and then 50/50(70/50 after 45,000$ sold) to the smaller sector of the company that I work for. They cover all advertising except personal and MLS, business cards, and E&O. I feel that 28% and then 50% on top of that is allot to ask for. I have not had a chance to check with any other agencies yet but I think with my motivation I do not need the best company to out a name out there for me, So im thinking more commission somewhere else might be a better deal for me. Any ideas or advice or knowledge would be great. Thank you! more

Resolved Question: what is the cause of low breastfeeding rates in the united states?

in Sweden, 98% of mothers initiate breastfeeding, with 53% breastfeeding at 12 months. In the US, only 47% initiate breastfeeding, with 20% still breastfeeding at 12 months. What explains this gap? I think part of it is the aggressive advertising tactics formula companies use in the United States. Another reason could be a lack of education. The US has one of the worst rated school systems in the developed world, and Sweden has one of the top rated school systems. Its much more likely that a well educated mother is going to breastfeed. Does anyone else have an idea as to what could be behind these statistics? more

Resolved Question: Melbourne Neon Signs re-illuminated?

Does anyone know whats happening with the Nylex, Slade Knitwear, MYER, Pelaco, Johnstons furniture, Capitol theatre, Newspaper house & The druids neon signs? Some of these signs (Nylex) have been switched of very recently and some for decades and I really think since there all heritage should be restored to there former glory. The Nylex sign sits above the old silos in Cremorne and when operational advertises the now defunct Nylex Plastics company and also displays the Temperature and Time. It was built in 1961 and was restored in mid 2004 and was switched off in February 2009 when the factory closed. I think its real sad to see such a usefull sign sit there and rot especially after people spent all that time in 2004 restoring it. The company that now owns it says it can not afford the electricity costs and that is why they won't switch it back on. Why not look at alternative solutions to powering it? Other than from the grid. The Slade Knitwear sign is located in Richmond and was built in 1970. It was recently saved from demolition. It is not known why this sign isn't presently operational. http://www.adonline.id.au/neon/slade.php The Myer lightbulb sign is located right above the entrance to the Myer flagship store's Lonsdale street entrance it was erected in 1929! I bet this sign could easily be re-illuminated using energy saving lightbulbs. It is not known why it is currently not operational. The Pelaco spectacular is one of the few large-scale signs remaining in Melbourne designed to be animated. It's monumental size makes it quite a landmark, and being positioned on a tall building on top of a hill, can be seen across many suburbs! It was erected in 1939, and fell into disrepair until it was restored and re-illuminated (minimally lit) in 1997. It is presently not illuminated. This is a very sad story. The Johnstons furniture sign. It has been left to rust and waste away. It has been out of use since 1985. The building that it is located in is occupied by a private gallery who most likely can't afford to turn it on. There were once a series of neon signs which adorned the Capitol Theatre at its construction in 1932. The most spectacular was a metal trough sign consisting of 2 metre tall letters spelling the word "CAPITOL". However, this sign was almost immediately overshadowed by the construction of the taller Manchester Unity Building next door. A number of signs existed on the front façade but have all been removed with the exception of this small neon sign on the side of the awning. Despite its appearance, the cast iron verandah which now conceals it is a recreation and the neon sign was once fully visible from the footpath. This sign is significant as a relic from this era. It is no longer functional. I bet this sign could be removed from its current location to a more prominent one, restored & repaired and illuminated to adorn the theatre once again. The Newspaper house sign dates from 1933 and is possibly the oldest surviving neon sign in Melbourne. It is no longer in working order but with some TLC i think it can be easily fixed. The 'Join the Druids' sign was installed in 1934 and sits seven storeys high on the south side of Druid House, the former offices of the Druids Friendly Society. The sign is no longer in working order. Does anyone have any information on the future of these signs? Im really hoping that they eventually get restored and re-illuminated. Im thinking of even writing to the owners of these establishments asing them to turn them on again or invest in getting them reapired. Neon signs are absolutely Beautiful and it brings tears to my eyes when I drive past them and see them lurking in the shadows when they should be bright, colorful and bring joy. more

Resolved Question: I'm thinking about setting up a t shirt business...Few Questions...?

Right, this idea has been playing on me for a while, i'm a big photoshop user and come up with some great designs, i also have hand drawn images thrown my way to use every so often. My idea is to set up a T shirt printing business but selling my own stock of t shirts and hooded tops (zip up and pullover) and on the side line doing custom orders. Heat Transfer, Vinyl Printing and Screen Printing...Which one is best, for business? Also saying buy whole stock i buy a t shirt at £1.00 would selling them for £15.00 each be ok? and buying a hodded top for 3.50 and selling them for £18.00 is that a good price? I know i will need some capital to buy stock and printing equipment as well as setting up a website. I do have a long term plan which includes a lot of promoting incl' Car shows, fashion shows, word of mouth, leaflets also self advertising ( wearing a t shirt which company contact info ) as well as having my car carrying signs about the company. My ideal annual turnover is £248.725 with the wholesale costs, promoting costs, web hosting and printing costs deducted. How come tax would be taking off? I would be proposing this idea towards a family member who runs multiple businesses and might be interested in this venture. also more costs that i need to take into account please let me know :) more

Resolved Question: What does this dream mean? Christians please answer.?

One point to mention is this: I had concluded that on May 7th which is the 127th day in the Julian Calender, I would see him again... at an undisclosed and unknown location... so Julian could symbolize the Julian calender. So this is my dream: I dreamt that I was a photographer trying to cpature beautiful arrangements of color for my company and there were two girls that I was talking to. They were very beautiful and good to each other but when I talked to them they were rude and nasty to me and for the most part just ignored me and I wandered what's the point of being so beautiful when you have such a nasty personality? Why would anyone care how beautiful you are? But everyone cared greatly how beautiful they were, except me who couldn't figure it out. Then I dreamt that we were trying to advertise ourselves to outsiders. All the indians which I believe symbolize toughness, and perseverence that I went to highschool with had become royalty and most of them were kings. An avereage looking guy with an overly friendly face that all the girls liked had become king. His name was julian. To get attention and promote our group he gets all of his servants to lock him in a coffin and place him along a moving pipeline at the bottom of a man-made structure shaped loosely like a pyramid and as he does this, the contraption takes him along a path sometimes going right a little bit and sometimes going left a little bit until it reaches the top of the pyramid through the wheels that are pushing him under the man-made tunnel. ONce he reaches the top, the contraption lock becomes deactivated and he comes out of his coffin at the top of the moutain for all to see his brilliance and the greatness of his kingdom. But no matter how many times he does this, he cannot produce a miracle or testify that the contraption is not man made which is what will win over the people outside. Karen a really ugly girl that a virtuous man loved in university because of her intelligence and purity had also become powerful because she was the ex-girlfriend of the king. She accused the king of doing this show which he did 2.5 times to get her back and told all of his friends that this was why he was doing the show and was just making all kinds of false slanderous accusations against him. ON th last show before Karen appears in the picture an unknown king tries to the slow the process by blocking the coffin at points in the moving assembly where it is risky because the king needs to breathe after a certain amount of time in the pipelin and there are big expanses of empty space in the pipeline every few minutes or so that he can get a whift of fresh but Julian comes out safe and suffers no harm. During this time as Julian was doing all these miracles with the contraption, I was trying to figure out if God would not let me marry this man after I had gone 6 years without seeking His face, though I had been praying every day during this period of time and I concluded that this dream could not answer my question. I believe the whift of fresh air... that the king needs, means that the king's heart's heart is restless, not satisifed with the people he has chosen to associate, and that he cannot be tied down in a relationship that he not 100% satisifed with, because the restless spirit inside him will cause him to wander and stray away from the contriction in search of a new and better relationship... And that even though an unknown king had tried to slow the process, the unknown king allowed it to happen. Background information: There was a really religious guy that I used to love so deeply with a spiritual love, but some negative interferences that I allowed to happen destroyed my reputation and he was unwilling to risk being the only one to associate with me when all of his friends hated me. We used to kiss and make out... never went further than that but it was because he wanted affection and was suicidal and depressed, he never saw me or loved me like a girlfriend, he just wanted someone to sooth his negative feelings... and I didn't enjoy it at all because I knew he did not love me, and the way he was treating me I did not love him. Then I went back to thinking... if we had a spiritual, chrisitan relationship where we were both seeking God, and trying hard to serve him, we could have such a beautiful life together, because in spite of his flaws I know he has a very strong, unshakable faith in God... and the only thing I like about him is his religion, not his physical or intellectual attributes, not his money. more

Voting Question: Need some Freelancing Advice...?

I am a Graphic Design doing my first big freelance project for my parent’s campground. Working one on one with my mom on the project, and I realize that we should have discussed the positions we each would take and the amount of my payment before we started. However, at the time I believed that I would be doing 100% of what needed to be done for the two brochures. When it came time to contact other companies to ask about advertising in the brochure, my mom decided she would like to help with that part. So in the end she has called and contacted everyone that is advertising on her brochure. Brochure A) is the bigger of the two and the one with all the advertising on it. So the printing price would be paid with the money made from the advertisers. Brochure B) has no advertising on it, but includes most of the campgrounds info and prices. And the printing price came out of the campground advertising found. My mom wants to pay me by the hour for brochure B, which I’m okay with since we didn’t make any profit off of it with advertising. She would also like to pay me by the hour for brochure A, which I’m not exactly okay with. I feel like we should at least split the profit 60/40. I built and designed the brochure, had to redo the campground map for her. Had to build a map so that the customer can find the campground. Also, had to build most of the ads on the brochure. I contact the printer to get price for printing and to send the file in to get printed. And if anything is wrong with the file, I’m the one that has to fix it. I could split it in to 5 sections, to explain it to my mom a little better so that she sees how much work goes into building and designing the brochure. 1) 20% - The Design and Layout (me) 2) 20% - Two Maps (me) 3) 20% - Contacting companies for advertising. (Mom) 4) 20% - The ads on the brochure (me) 5) 20% - Contacting the printer, sending files, fixing file if needed. (Mom and me) And on top of it, I was working on both brochures at the same time… I don’t know…any advice??? ThanksI did have a set price when I started out...I was suposed to do all the work, therefore I would get 100% of the profit. And at the beginning I had told her that I would like to split it 60/40, but she's being stuburn... more

Resolved Question: Question about hotjobs.com. Which option below would you choose and why?

Now, join the decision team at hotjobs.com. Which option would you choose and why? *Option1: Focus on a few major cities or on employment in one industry. - Because the biggest job markets (and potential revenue) are in handful of U.S cities, Dimitri could spend precious advertising dollars selectively by remaining a specialist in technical jobs only or by focusing exclusively on the New York area. But, Hotjob's profits would be limited and vulnerable to local market conditions. Furthermore, online companies were attracting investors, so if Dimitri didn't position Hotjobs as a national player, he might miss his window of opportunity. Well-funded competitors would go national, then return to the local markets and crush Hotjobs. *Option 2: Act local, look national. - By focusing advertising on the country's top seven markets, Dimitri could concentrate his sales force in Hotjobs' regional territories (espacially New York where the national media is strong), hitting each with short blasts of a multimedia and telemarketing campaign. This option would include limited spending on national television advertising, giving Dimitri more bang for his advertising buck while establishing Hotjobs as a premium players. It would also allow messages to be customized to each city. However, a poorly planned and executed advertising message could make Hotjobs seem like a Low-budget, regional player-making larger companies and job seekers reluctant to sign up for a company they perceived as too small. *Option 3: Advertise aggressively to position Hotjobs as a national brand - By coming out fighting on a national level in this new industry, Hotjobs would get a head start by establishing itself as a leader in the business for years to come. But, Hotjobs' main competitor Monster.com was better funded and already had an established public image. With much less money to invest, Dimitri could end up with no brand image while exhausting his limited advertising dollars. Thank you for your time :) more

Resolved Question: How do cigarette Companies Attract New/Existing customers?

Hello! Our class was asked this question today about cigarettes. In USA and Europe Advertising and Promoting of any brand of cigarette is banned. You cannot Advertise on Television and through any print media or Electronic media in USA and Europe. Even the shopkeepers are not allowed to display the cigarette Brands or use any posters. So how does these companies promote or advertise their product in USA and Europe. For example, Marlboro cigarettes have the top cigarette business in the world. They used to advertise on Formula 1 cars and Moto races. But now it is banned too. So what strategy they use now? How does these brands Attract customers to smoke their cigarettes. How they attract new customers? My first Question on Yahoo! Answers. I am asking because i am not American or European and never visited them. So i have no idea how do they promote or advertise there. Please help me solve this. Thanks, AliLets say I am Dunhill brand and i also make Perfumes that are so popular. Smokers who like Dunhill perfume might also like my cigarettes. But what about Marlboro, L & M and those other brands competing in the market? they cannot invest this much for side projects except cigarettes. FYI the actors are banned to smoke in front of the screens and they have also banned Cartoons to advertise Cigarettes. There are so much Anti-Smoking campains in USA and our only hint was that the answer is related to Anti-Smoking Campaigns. I don't know how these companies Advertise or promote their Brands. more

Resolved Question: Will a social networking site giving up 70% of its ad revenue to its members be the next BIG thing?

This company has broken into the top 2000 most visited websites in the last 6 months on alexa.com, something that took Facebook, and Twitter over 7 years to do, plus offering a free way to make money to all its members. It's filed the papers to become publicly traded on the stock market this week, because of its very simple, and free business idea, as well as splitting 70% of its advertising revenue amongst all its members. Being that it's less than a year old I wonder will this be the next Google, or Facebook, or Twitter? http://www.internetstring.com more

Resolved Question: Does anyone feel Netbanner Ads are invading your privacy?

I've been doing some marketing for awhile now, and came across Netbannerads.com - Actually, they had e-mailed me and let me know that I may not have some keyword on my site, etc. After speaking with someone over there, I asked how Google!, Yahoo, and MSN would allow them to have a website appear on top of their listings. This is where things get tricky. They deal with outsourced non-affiliate, non-partnering 'active x attacking' companies. Those companies install 3rd party software on your computer (Kind of like those annoying pop-up windows you mindlessly click 'ok' to). Once the software is installed, and you utilize Google!, Yahoo, or MSN to search for something, the 3rd party software will display the person owning the 'keyword's website on TOP of the search listings. More in depth > If I search for "Toyota", in stead of getting Toyota's Advertisement First (Which I'm sure they paid good money for), I'll get Larry's Toyota Dealership in New Brunswick, NJ. appearing on top of everything, with my actual search listings far below this. I think there might even be some infringement here - not only on a user side, but on the policies governing advertising rights on these sites. If anyone can show a moral, or ethical stand point here that advises to use Netbannerads.com (absolving from the picture the marketing and money aspect of this) I'd be greatly appreciated. Also, in general, it's about $2000-$3000 a year to own a 'word' or 'phrase', which could be seen as many as 30,000 times a month, and clicked-free-of-charge. In comparison to Google!'s AdWords, which can cost up to $3 per click, and when you're looking to up #'s, and not to sell a product, Netbannerads.com seems VERY cost effective. more

Resolved Question: Economics (Nash Equlibrium) Game theory?

The Coca Cola Company (Coke) and Pepsico (Pepsi) must independently decide how much to spend on advertising this year (low, medium, or high advertising expenditures). Each firm's decision will affect its own profits, as well as profits of its competitor. The following payoff matrix shows the possible outcomes for this game between Coke and Pepsi. Here Coke is the row player and Pepsi the column player. Coke's available strategies are listed on the left (it can choose the rows labeled Low, Medium, or High). Similarly, Pepsi's available strategies are listed at the top (it can choose the columns labeled Low, Medium, or High). Interior cells show the profits (measured in millions of dollars) for each firm, with the profits for the row player (Coke) listed first, followed by profits for the column player (Pepsi). For example, if Coke chooses a low advertising budget while Pepsi opts for a medium budget, then profit will be $7 million for Coke and $10 million for Pepsi. ..............................Pepsi's Strategies ................................Low,Medium,High Coke's Strategies Low .....(9, 11) (7, 10) (5, 12) Medium................(8, 6 ) (8, 7) (8, 10) High.....................(10, 4) (9, 5) (6, 6) At the game's Nash equilibrium, what are the combined profits of Coke and Pepsi, measured in millions of dollars? more

Resolved Question: Is this a good way to launch a music career?

I'm 17 and I'm currently a law student in Australia. I've had a burning desire to be a famous entertainer (actress, musician) ever since I was 8. I'm a self-taught musician (self taught pianist, guitarist) I write and compose my own songs, I'm a dancer and an actress (I've been accepted at various theater companies ever since I was young). Okay, basically, I don't think I wanna go down the road of recording demos and sending them to several record labels, hoping to get a record deal. That's not guaranteed at all. What I'm planning to do is graduate as a lawyer, hopefully make good money and basically use that money to record an album and pay an advertising company for the promotions and all, and hopefully, I'll make my way to the top, without begging record labels to take me under their wing. Is that a workable idea? more

Resolved Question: Problem with Judgment in small claims court?

Can anyone help me? The background to my small claims action is as follows. I offered on a flat and this was accepted. Having paid for a survey and my solicitors costs I discovered that the property didnt legally exist and was advertised with the agency as a consequence of a fraud, a sub prime mortgage, a desk top survey (didnt see the property) and inadequate or negligent legal enquiries. I asked that the mortgage company repay the costs associated with this aborted purchase. They refused to pay. The property was still owned by the local council and had been bought under the right to buy scheme as a house and had been illegally converted into flats and sold off at £500,000 and as such no permission was sought or granted and would never be granted to convert the property into flats. I filed a small claims action and at the last minute the court changed the time of the hearing. I attended at the time given to me on the notice but the hearing was listed for later that day. I couldnt be there and was amazed that the Judge heard the case in my absence and found for the Defendant - striking out the case and asking me to pay (within 2 days) the extortionate costs of a large law firm in London. I have previously tried to buy properties but pulled out when, say, I found the lease was too short, my legal adviser had advised me to or there was something wrong on a survey. In these cases I understand 'caveat emptor' but in this case the property didnt legally exist, has never existed and would never exist and but for the legal negligence and lack of a survey being done I would never have gone to see it. Compounding this is the knowledge that it is companies like this and transactions like this have caused the massive bailouts that we are now paying for. It seems extremely unjust. I have asked the Judge to set aside this action on the grounds of procedural irregularity and hope to have my time in court. Does anyone know what I can do if the court decides not to relist this matter? What recourse would I have, if any? Any advise would be extremely welcome. ThanksMore details about this action: I was given a notice to attend at 10 am and when I arrived they said it was listed for 3pm. The court didnt know what time the Defendant had been told to attend and contacted them by phone (as they do not keep copies of notices) and they also said they had a notice to attend at 10 am. The court usher said that their legal adviser had however called on the friday before (the hearing was on the following Monday) and was 'told' to attend at 3pm. I am not accustomed to dealing with legal matters and the claim was made against the company who the agent told me was appropriate. However in the Defence they said they were agents for the mortgagees in possession and the incorrect Defendant but that if the Claim was against the mortgage company they defended that also. The Defence said they defended both the agent and the mortgage company and that caveat emptor applied in both cases. I couldnt return at 3pm but left note for judge saying this/outlined caseJust wanted to say thank you to the retired solicitor who responded - much appreciated! I didnt know about the option to appeal to a circuit judge - thanks. Is it the case that once it goes to that level the costs increase? Resolved Question: What am I feeling? What do I do?

I'm a girl who really thinks I have it all. I'm pretty and cute and well loved. I have a wonderful, loving, smart and sexy husband who's also my best friend, the only one I need in the world! A great family. A flexible and fun job and I make enough money. And I'm 26, enjoying womanhood. A few months back I entered into a contract with a corporate to provide advertising consultancy services. The top boss there was a great guy ( about 42) and within a month of realizing that I was overperforming, doubled my fee and took a special interest in working with me to meet the company's goals. I have a huge amount of respect for him and am very fond of him and quite fiercely loyal to him. However, recently, I've started fantasising about him sometimes...from just being great friends, to mildly sexual. When we interact, our conversations are very profound and though he's naturally fatherly, we have a mild chemistry, though with lines firmly drawn and restated at appropriate times. I've had crushes on men in positions of power before and it has fizzled out and I'm sure this will too. But I really think I want to be friends with this guy, especially once my contract with the company is over. How do I let him know. He gives me the same signals, very subtly. But at that senior level, can you trust anyone? I recently discovered on facebook that he is single...and sometimes I do feel that he tries hard to impress me. more

Resolved Question: WILL SOMEONE DO ME THE BIGGEST FAVOUR EVER?

Please could someone summarise these paragraphs to make it shorter. I will make it a best answer and i will answer your questions back to the fullest of my ability?PLEASE!! But Staggs may have made his most important statement about the company without saying a word, observers say. He sold 75,000 Disney shares for $1.9 million, or about $25.38 per share on average. The insider sales were the first at the company since September, when Staggs sold $2.6 million in shares through a selling plan he had adopted. Staggs now holds about 200,000 shares, and options for about 1.8 million shares. Together these holdings represent less than 1% of Disney's outstanding shares. Staggs' sales have tended to encounter falls in Disney's stock price, according to Thomson Reuters. The last 12 times Staggs has sold, shares have fallen about 8% in the following six months. Thomson rates Disney a three out of 10 in regards to insider opinion (measured by buying and selling), with 10 being the most obstinate. Jason Raznick, vice president at StreetInsider.com, says Staggs' sale is bad news for the company's stock. "I would not want to be a buyer of Disney when the CFO is selling such a large percentage of his holdings," Raznick wrote in an e-mailed response to questions. "If investors have enjoyed the recent run in Disney, I'd join the CFO and take some of my position off." Disney stock increased 12% after the company released better-than-expected second-quarter earnings after the market closed. ESPN helped support the company despite a difficult environment for advertising. The company's cable programming accounted for 75% of operating income, despite accounting for only 27% of revenue, according to Wunderlich Securities analysts who upgraded the company to Hold from Sell after the announcement. But the company has suffered from poor showings at the box office and weak DVD sales. And it had to offer large discounts to entice tourists to its theme parks, though attendance at the parks was low, per-capita spending was down 6% from the year before. Staggs has worked his way up the ranks at Disney since joining as a manager of strategic planning in 1990. He worked on the company's gain of Pixar and ABC and has focused on cutting costs as the economy has soured. "A number of them represent temporary measures in response to the downturn, but many of them are structural and, therefore, more permanent changes to our cost base," he said. Staggs signed a new contract in 2008 that included an "inducement" of 250,000 restricted stock units that vest in 2013. He earned $9.2 million in total compensation for 2008, including a $4.1 million bonus. One company benefit offered to Staggs and two other top executives has upset some shareholders. Disney has a Family Income Assurance Plan that entitles family members of executives who die to three years' worth of the executive's salary (though the family would get 75% and 50%, respectively, in the second and third year). Detractors call the plan a "golden coffin" -- a representative of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees told shareholders at the company's annual meeting in March that "it's time to drive the nail into Disney's golden coffin." more

Resolved Question: With moslems trying to screw us, might this be another 0bama scam to distract us from the Sodomized Medicine?

CAIR Spent $160,000 to Silence Savage New book Reveals Memos Behind Campaign to Run Radio Star Off the Air Posted: October 14, 2009 9:00 am Eastern By Art Moore © 2009 WorldNetDaily (San Francisco Chronicle) Michael Savage An explosive new book based on a daring six-month undercover operation exposing the subversive agenda of the Council on American-Islamic Relations reveals the Muslim group spent $160,000 in an unsuccessful effort to run top-rated nationally syndicated radio host Michael Savage off the air. Internal CAIR documents uncovered in "Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld That's Conspiring to Islamize America" show that despite its high cost and the continued success of Savage's show, CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad believed the campaign was "worth every penny," because, he says, the radio star lost at least $1 million in advertising . Authors P. David Gaubatz and Paul Sperry recount how CAIR ran out of money before it could crack Savage's most loyal sponsors. As WND reported, Savage sued CAIR in December 2007, two months after the Muslim lobby group began urging "people of all faiths" to contact Savage's advertisers to protest "anti-Muslim bigotry" on the air. CAIR cited Savage calling the Quran "a throwback document" and "a book of hate" and demanding CAIR be thrown out of the country for promulgating it. Savage's copyright infringement and RICO lawsuit alleged CAIR illegally published singled-out quotes and audio excerpts from the show regarding Islam, misappropriated his words and used the clips for its own fundraising purposes, damaging the value of his copyrighted material. Judge Susan Illston of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California dismissed the case, determining CAIR had a legal right to use excerpts of a public broadcast for purposes of comment and criticism. But Illston ruled in Savage's favor when CAIR attempted to extract attorneys fees. Savage declared Illston's November 2008 decision a "huge victory for me, personally, but also for the rest of America who is afraid of this lawsuit-happy group of intimidators." In their new book, Gaubatz, a counter-terrorism investigator and former federal agent with vast experience in the Middle East, and Sperry, a veteran reporter on the war on terror and author of "Infiltration," document CAIR's role as a U.S. front for the Muslim Brotherhood's plan to transform America into an Islamic nation under the authority of the Quran. In a chapter titled "Blackmailing Corporate America," the authors show how CAIR tries to intimidate major corporations and media figures, such as Savage. An internal memo – one of thousands of pages extracted by Gaubatz's son Chris, who posed as a Muslim convert and became a CAIR intern for six months – showed CAIR considered broadening its campaign against Savage. The effort against the talk-radio star included formation of a nonprofit called Hate Hurts America, which published on its website lists of advertisers along with contact information. A CAIR staffer wrote in an internal memo that the "idea behind Hate Hurts America is great and has the potential to go far. However, I feel that if you want to continue with HHA and not lose momentum, the campaign needs to expand beyond Michael Savage to other bigoted talk show hosts." The report noted that it's much easier to get the attention of large corporations rather than small firms or franchises, because large corporations like AT&T have a reputation at stake and "don't want to be associated with anything that might seem controversial." The CAIR memo said, however, companies that are endorsed or directly promoted by Savage on the air, such as Life Lock or Swiss America, are "an absolute no" for targeting. "They are loyal to Savage and there is a chance they might sue," the memo said. False figure As WND reported, the British government apparently seized on campaigns against Savage by CAIR and others when it used his name to provide "balance" to a "least wanted list" dominated by Muslim extremists. Savage's ban from entry to the U.K. prompted an invitation from the Cambridge Union to debate political correctness via a video link, but the society canceled his appearance, scheduled for tomorrow, citing "legal issues" among other problems. The chapter in "Muslim Mafia" covering Savage's ordeal with CAIR also shows how the Islamic group has tried to intimidate Hollywood and companies such as Nike, Bank of America and US Airways by citing a false figure of 7 million American Muslims who are ready and willing to boycott their services. Despite widespread use of the figure in media, propagated by CAIR and others, the Pew Research Center recently estimated the American-Muslim population to be only about 2.35 million. The book also reveals CAIR recently has teamed up with the American Civil Liberties Union to consolidate resources onmc93433 is another coward that will not allow a direct response so here it is in the clear: mc93433 I'm SO grateful that you have such keen wit and great analytical skills to help straighten me out. Resolved Question: So what if most Americans don't seem to want the flu vaccine? So what?

(I received an extremely rude answer the first time I asked this, almost confirming my suspicions that there are people posting here who have a vested interest in promoting the H1N1 vaccine. So I had to ask this again. If you're going to debate, and you need to be rude, please go to the politics category.) in ref to: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/10/09/AR2009100903216.html?hpid=moreheadlines According to this article, only about 40% of the people polled indicate they will get the flu vaccine, but this article suggests there's something wrong with this--as if the all important word isn't getting out that you "should" get the flu vaccine. The same article opens with Anne Schuchat, head of one branch of the CDC telling the public, "Vaccine against flu is the best way to protect yourself . . . and those around you," but this is no fact. It's the opinion of a so-called "expert" working for the government in a field that has plenty of unknowns. Much like the FDA, her opinion is also likely to be highly biased in support of the pharmaceutical industry. They know there are 195 million vials on the market wih billions in profit at stake, and there's nothing stopping pharmaceutical companies from offering top officials incentives to help with advertising. Heck, someone like Donald Rumsfeld is a major stock holder for the company that makes Tamiflu. So, it's suspect why listening to the advice from the government about who "should" get vaccinated is completely justified. Despite such a never before seen campaign to scare the public into getting a flu vaccine, there has yet to be shown convincing evidence that this year there's more reason to get the vaccine compared to any other year. H1N1 is no superflu, and now and then even the media has to admit most people infected get mild symptoms and recover in a matter of days. But they've started with the "rising deaths from H1N1" headlines, and the articles don't mention the numbers of deaths from other strains of the flu, so no meaningful comparisons can be made. Instead, there's the underlying message: You better get the vaccine now before you're too late. But the truth is it doesn't even matter in most cases whether you get the vaccine or not because your immune system can develop its own antibodies even to H1N1. That's how it's been done for years. Influenza is not polio. Your immune system can fight it unless you have a pre-existing disease that seriously weakens your immune sytem (e.g., asthma, cerebral palsy, AIDS, muscular dystrophy). So why then are they making such a big deal out of it if most Americans are saying they'd rather not pay $30 or so twice for two vaccines that contain both aluminum and the controversial mercury compound Thimerosal (mercury-free version is not always available) and that causes headaches, muscle aches, fatigue, and fever for up to several days? (Sounds like the flu, but proponents of the vaccine downplay it by calling it "side effects.") Are we supposed to let the people who have a vested interest in promoting the pharmaceutical industry tell us what's the "best" way to protect yourself against the flu? Where's the real evidence that the natural way to let your immune system do its own thing is no longer good enough? The above link has been edited by the Washington Post and changed to: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/10/09/AR2009100903216.html more

Resolved Question: Why should there be any concern if most Americans don't seem to want the flu vaccine?

in ref to: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/10/09/AR2009100903216.html?hpid=moreheadlines According to this article, only about 40% of the people polled indicate they will get the flu vaccine, but this article suggests there's something wrong with this--as if the all important word isn't getting out that you "should" get the flu vaccine. Resolved Question: Times Private Treaties providing small brands the ‘X’ Factor?

Times Private Treaties investments seem to have provided the small brands X Factor in terms of brand building, mainstream advertising and reputation management. One of the recent successes has been a small lesser known e-waste recycling company Eco Reco which claims that they have seen a substainatial growth in the number of new clients since April 2008, when their first ad on Planet Earth Day appeared. Currently, the company has more than 200 corporate clients across India, such as Siemens, Reliance, Infosys, HCL and HDFC and many more including several companies of Tata Group, Mahindra & Mahindra and Castrol. The company feels that this is due to the buzz and brand equity generated by their informational and brand campaign in partnership with Times Private Treaties. Similarly a B2B compnay Unitek Power, which fundamentally provides industrial power solutions, belives that the brand reputation earned through advertising via a Times Private Treaties client has enabled them to win large orders. Last year this Kerala-based electronics company had signed an exclusive tie-up with the Italian pioneer, Borri Industrial Power Solutions The Unitek-Borri Power Solutions got Rs 32 crore order from L & T for Cairns Energy. Another example is Royal Hygiene, a new entrant in the feminine hygiene products range which has attained a number three position in the market by registering a growth of 225% in sales last year. The company attributes this success largely to their brand building efforts undertaken since May 2008 post their alliance with Times Private Treaties. Says, Rakesh Kaul, CEO of Royal Hygiene, “Ever since the alliance with the Times Group, there has been a substantial increase in the top of the mind recall over the past one year.” Times Private Treaties model is based on providing brand building and advertising opportunities to smaller less known companies to help them create their brand and unlock value. This model enables companies to advertise in BCCL vehicles in return for equity in those companies. This also helps the company to bring in many first time otherwise media shy advertisers and increase BCCL’s advertiser base. more

Resolved Question: How long is an "updated" roof on a house supposed to last in normal coniditions?

When I use the term "updated" I mean nailing new shingles on top of old shingles. Thee is a house I am interested in purchasing. The real estate listing advertises a "new roof." However, I know that the roofing company did not replace the shingles and the wood under the shingles. They just nailed new shingles on top of the old ones. Around here they call that a "new roof." LOL I call it an updated roof. Anyway, how long is an "updated" roof supposed to last under normal conditions, meaning no major hail storms, just the occasional thunder storm and average or above average snow fall? more

Resolved Question: could you correct this essay, please?

It’s important to follow fashion. Discuss. Fashion is a global phenomenon that influences most of us in a negative way. This is clearly reflected in the fact that, nowadays, the majority of people cannot wait to get the latest products in market so as to be not left behind. In my opinion, being “fashionable” implies waste of money and time because fashion changes constantly. In the firs place, from the economical point of view, modern changes in fashion embody many of the negative aspects of capitalism which encourages consumers to buy things unnecessarily. According to some economists, the telephonic companies decrease the quality in the production of the mobile phones to make them last just two or three year and force people to purchase a new phone. As a second view, canons of beauty established by the fashion world affect the image that adolescents can copy from them. The imposition of the canons can come from means of communication such as television and advertising. In these means of communication, some people appear with perfect bodies but in fact they are retouched by computer programmes. From the healthy standpoint, the extremely thinness that top models offer can cause nutritious disorders to those who want to be like them. This fact is very well reflected in the fact that nowadays most of the adolescents in the world suffers from bulimia or anorexia. A fifteen year old girl declares that she had suffered from anorexia because she saw extremely thin top models on television and she thought it was the “right image.” Moreover, she declares that her self-esteem had decreased due to the fact that she did not look as them. There are those who argue, on the other hand, that they enjoy the diversity that changing fashion can apparently provide. The constant change is a way to satisfy their desires and to experience “new and interesting things.” To conclude, it is my believe that fashion houses and their associated fashion designers as well as high-statues consumers, including celebrities, appear to have some role in determining the rates and directions of fashion change. For these reason, the image of fashion leads negative attitudes towards society. more

Resolved Question: Why are Hispanics trying to control free speech Latino leaders are displeased with what they see want Dobbs?

Why are Hispanics trying to control free speech Latino leaders are displeased with what they see want Dobbs fired ? Two national advocacy organizations have joined the campaign against CNN show host Lou Dobbs, saying that most Latino leaders are displeased with what they see as his inflamatory remarks on immigration and other issues and some are threatening to target advertisers that support his show. In doing so, advocacy groups Democracia Ahora and the League of United Latin American Citizens are joining a coalition of Latino groups targetting Dobbs in 25 U.S. cities -- including Latino Leadership and the Democracia Ahora chapter in Orlando. CNN's public relations office in Atlanta had not responded Friday to requests for comment. The Lou Dobbs Tonight show on CNN focuses on immigration as one of its top issues and often criticizes Hispanic advocacy organizations. Dobbs had to apologize earlier this year after accusing the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of condoning "Mexico's export of drugs and illegal aliens to the United States." Most recently, he has upset Hispanic leaders because of his focus on "illegal alien loopholes" in health care reform that many have denounced as false claims. Democracia Ahora said it will launch its own "Enough is Enough!" push to counter "the daily drum roll of misinformation and offensive commentary" on Dobbs' show. The organization had Bendixen and Associates conduct a survey of Hispanic leaders that showed most of them "are offended" by the show "as a result of his direct verbal attacks on the immigrant community and his misguided characterization of the Hispanic community as a whole." The Democracia group found that 90 out of 100 Hispanic leaders "ranging from members of Congress and heads of Latino advocacy groups, to CEOs of top American companies and the most prestigious Hispanic journalists and academics in the country" disapprove of Dobbs' show. “Latinos are contributing to the fabric of this great nation in immeasurable ways, from backbreaking work in the nation’s farm fields to active civic engagement and participation in the Democratic process," said Jorge Mursuli, President of Democracia Ahora. "It is truly unconscionable that a world class news network such as CNN continues to directly and indirectly attack our community." The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is complaining that Dobbs is attacking their organization specifically, having called it a “left wing socio-ethnocentric group.” “Over the years, Lou Dobbs has consistently used his CNN platform to spread hate and fear. We are asking his sponsors to stop advertising on his show,” said LULAC president Rosa Rosales. http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/news_hispanicaffairs/2009/09/drop-lou-dobbs-fight-escalates-as-hispanic-groups-target-advertisers.html Where are these same voices in the make Mexico a better country debate ? more

Voting Question: Business Sabatoge Advice?

I have a successful online business that a competitor is trying to sabotage by reporting my websites to search engine companies for fraudulent claims and other methods to lower my standing in the search results, so their online business can show in top search results. This person is jealous and does not respect the fact that it took hard work and advertising to get my online business in top ranking. What measures do I have to stop this? I've tried dealing with her (and yes it's a woman) but to no avail. Please don't spam me and post bogus, spammy links. I asked a legitimate question here. more

Resolved Question: What would be the best way to find a mentor in my industry? (Advertising / Marketing)?

I've been working in the advertising / marketing industry for a few years now (been on the client, website, and agency sides of the biz). I really want to put together a time line or "game plan" for my career. My father is a senior manager at a financial institution, and he recommends finding a mentor who is in a position that I aim to achieve. Most of my work has been in the digital (online) space. Right now the (abbreviated) plan is: to gain a strong grasp of all mediums, get an MBA from a top-30 business school, and eventually end up as a Product Manager or CMO for a fortune500 company. I was thinking of placing an ad on CraigsList or LinkedIn, but don't know how best to word something like this, or even if those places would be good to use -- where do successful marketing / advertising professionals frequent? :) more

Resolved Question: Stay at home mom - feeling unappreciated?

I don't know if this is common feeling for stay at home moms or what, but I feel unappreciated and not valued at times. My daughter is 1 yr old and I've always worked in the past. Currently I am collecting unemployment so it does bring money in (pretty much the same as if I was working minus childcare). I also run a small cleaning company where I bring around $500 per month, and help husbands business (write estimates, all online advertising - which is his only source of business, and he's doing very well). On top of that I take care of the house (cooking, cleaning, etc), and our daughter of course. I think that I have a lot on my plate, but feel like my husband doesn't think so. Is this a common feeling for stay at home moms? What can I do to help my husband see that I work hard too? more
