just need a quick suggestion, I am applying for a vacancy advertised by a multi-nat company. There is an option to submit the cover letter aswel with your resume. But who do I address my cover letter to? If you know what I mean! There has to be the name and address of the person you are intending to send the letter at the top and then in the body when you write "Dear...." followed by his/her name. if that info is not available, who do you normally address the letter to? I randomly got offered a new job within my company today. It comes with, most likely a very large raise, and a big step up in the company and probably any job I take in the future (this position will look great on a resume). I'm kind of torn about taking it. I work in a technical field, and I want to stay technical. The new position is somewhat technical but mixes the technical aspect with a marketing perspective. Essentially advertising a technical product to internal groups in the company. It would be a very big step up from the position I am currently in. I nervous, because I'm not sure if I'm qualified, though several people recommended me for the position. Also, I have become close friends with many of the people I work with everyday and I would hate to lose that. I'm trying to use the offer to leverage a promotion in my current position that I am overdue for, but I would still be in a customer facing technical support role which doesn't offer much growth. I'm nervous about this, I'm scared that I might not be able to fulfill the role and could lose my job if I don't perform up to their standards. At the same time, I am in the top of my group in my current position and am essentially guaranteed a promotion, though it will be to a higher level in the same group. The new position will look very good on a resume, but more so for a corporate employer and I am less and less attracted to the corporate environment that I have been acquired into. What would you do? Go for the new position and get deeper into the corporate world and potentially risk what is already a pretty good job or stay with the same job and get the promotion. If it makes a difference, my pay would probably increase by around $20,000 if I took the new job, and only about $5,000 if I go for the promotion in my current department. What would you do? more

Resolved Question: I have been a temporary worker for 3 years in the same job. What are my rights if any?

Due to the economic climate there has been a 'recruitment freeze' during the duration of my assignment here. I have a 100% attendance record and exceed all targets placed in front of me with a 0% error rate. I am paid 40% less than my colleagues who are doing the exactly the same job, albeit worse in my opinion as I am clearing up after them generally, with no entitlement to holiday pay and/or bonus. Surely this cannot be legal after this amont of time?? Now I know that new legislation has to come in to effect by October 2011 (Agency Workers Directive) in that legally you have to be paid the same as a permenant member of staff for doing the same job after 12 weeks of the assignment, but does this mean that companies will just get rid of you before this takes effect?? I have made my boss aware of my feeling of complete lack of appreciation/motivation in my current plight (I.e Not have a permenant job and/or being paid the same) but they just state oh our hands are tied and you cannot get a job because of the recruitment freeze. To top this whenever a position is advertised in my department we get somone from elsewhere in the company who I have to train and mentor. Any constructive thoughts would be much appreciated.... Things just seem to be getting worse for me at the moment, my baby is due in 2 and half weeks, and problems just seems to be coming from everywhere =[ . Basically my boyfriend Sam works as a self employed roofer, he has recently set up his own business and is advertising for work. I thought this was a great step in the right direction to start saving for our baby as he was struggling before. However he had a job 4 weeks ago which he said would be a weeks job,, but it ended up dragging over 3 weeks and he has still not been paid,, I asked Sam what is going on as he cant afford to buy anything we need for the baby,, but he told me that it is the site agent that is messing everything up and that he will be paid soon... so i believed him until today when his roofing labourer started telling me that sam is bodging everything and that is why he hasnt been paid, and that is why the company wont give him anymore work. To make matters a million times worse, my dad has his own very sucsessful building company the business has been running for over 40 years and is joint between my dad/uncle/and grandad... well my dad has given Sam some of his roofs to do on the houses he is building as he knows that sam is struggling for work,, and obviously my dad wants sam to have money to be able to support me and his grandaughter. Well i found out today that sam bodged the ridges on the top of one of my dads roofs and his roofing labourer said 'sam dont u think u should do it properly i mean it is for Dani's dad' and apparently sam replied saying 'oh well' . (btw- sams labourer is a close friend of mine and sams, which is why he is telling me this.) I feel so hurt that sam would not do one of the jobs properly for my dad,, my dads work is so good and has never had a bad word said about it... and now sam comes allong and it will be awful if the house has problems with the roof due to Sam not doing the work properly. whats worse is that his labourer told him he should do it properly cus it for my dad, but sam just didnt care! I cant say anything to my boyfriend, because hhis labourer is trusting me i wont say anything, as he needs his labouring job, and plus sam will just deny it like he does with everything,, and then a big argument will happen and nothing will be resolved. Apparently my boyfriend isnt as good at roofing as he should be, to be out on his own working on roofs. But what am i supposed to do,, if i tell him he isnt any good at his job, he will just go mental and again nothing will be resolved... the only way this is going to work is if he either suddenly becomes a good roofer,,, or if he decideds on his own that he needs a new line of work as he just isnt up to the roofing jobs. But i know what my boyfriend is like, and neither of those options is going to happen. I am just so stuck =[ ,,, i want to feel proud of the man i wanted to spend the rest of my life with and the father of my baby,, but how can i feel proud when he is not doing work properly-- especially for my own dad?!?!? more

Resolved Question: internet trading law question?

long story short, my other half ordered a pair of shoes through a website. it was in £, website had UK in it. only when the order confirmation came did we see it was charged in $ and the company was from china. when the shoes arrived we found they sent us the wrong shoes and not what we ordered. after 3 weeks of back and forth with them, they said they won't refund the money and won't give us their address to return the shoes, even though they advertise a 14 day money back guarantee. on top of that, the shoes are fake and not what they say they are. so we got in touch with the billing company who eventually saw that this was pointless and the money was refunded by them. the seller then promptly contacted us with his address saying we need to send the shoes back. but shipping is £10 to china for this and we already have been charged 2 foreign currency fees by the credit card company, so we are already £6 out of pocket. the china people don't want to pay for the postage even though it was their mistake and are saying that we have 2 days to return the shoes or they will take other steps. now i have never been in this situation before which is why i am here, hoping someone will be able to advise me on what i can do here or if they can actually cause me any trouble with this? thanks in advance guys and girls. any help would be appreciated.and to those of you who say 'that is what you get when you order from china' should read the question again. the company was posing as a UK company. On top of that, they show how many people are in your household, their ages, your income, age, and marital status. I know its kind of a ridiculous question to ask, cause im sure someone will say, why did you get the tattoo in the first place if you want to remove it now. Im not going to go into why and my personal reason to removing it now. Yes this is a definite scam. I have contacted oodle and equinenow about this obvious scam and they say there is nothing they can do. I am sincerely looking for a horse and have been looking at the friesians. I have contacted everyone from $0 up to $2000 and they have all been a hoax. They offer the shipping and without even knowing where to send the horse they pick a number off the top of their head for the shipping ranging anywhere from $500 to $1500. When I tell them I can come pick up the horse they give me a fictitious address and when I google the address there is no such place or it is a place of business ie: flooring company, newspaper bldg, an alley way or an empty lot. When I confront them with the wrong address issues they usually give me another false address. If there is anyone out there with one for a reasonable price (one that I could afford) they are going to be hard to find because of these scammers. I spent a whole day contacting well over 20 ads and every single one of them was fictitious. People need to be made aware that nothing on oodle should be trusted. They are all fraud and people should not advertise their horses or anything else on oodle. Ed went to work an advertising company after school and on Saturdays, for his first assignment he hired himself to create a billboard. The billboard will be 20 ft high and will proclaim his love for candy ( the girl, not the sweets). Resolved Question: what is the cause of low breastfeeding rates in the united states?

in Sweden, 98% of mothers initiate breastfeeding, with 53% breastfeeding at 12 months. In the US, only 47% initiate breastfeeding, with 20% still breastfeeding at 12 months. What explains this gap? I think part of it is the aggressive advertising tactics formula companies use in the United States. Another reason could be a lack of education. The US has one of the worst rated school systems in the developed world, and Sweden has one of the top rated school systems. Its much more likely that a well educated mother is going to breastfeed. Does anyone else have an idea as to what could be behind these statistics? more

Resolved Question: Melbourne Neon Signs re-illuminated?

Does anyone know whats happening with the Nylex, Slade Knitwear, MYER, Pelaco, Johnstons furniture, Capitol theatre, Newspaper house & The druids neon signs? Some of these signs (Nylex) have been switched of very recently and some for decades and I really think since there all heritage should be restored to there former glory. The Nylex sign sits above the old silos in Cremorne and when operational advertises the now defunct Nylex Plastics company and also displays the Temperature and Time. It was built in 1961 and was restored in mid 2004 and was switched off in February 2009 when the factory closed. I think its real sad to see such a usefull sign sit there and rot especially after people spent all that time in 2004 restoring it. The company that now owns it says it can not afford the electricity costs and that is why they won't switch it back on. Why not look at alternative solutions to powering it? Other than from the grid. The Slade Knitwear sign is located in Richmond and was built in 1970. It was recently saved from demolition. It is not known why this sign isn't presently operational. http://www.adonline.id.au/neon/slade.php The Myer lightbulb sign is located right above the entrance to the Myer flagship store's Lonsdale street entrance it was erected in 1929! I bet this sign could easily be re-illuminated using energy saving lightbulbs. It is not known why it is currently not operational. The Pelaco spectacular is one of the few large-scale signs remaining in Melbourne designed to be animated. It's monumental size makes it quite a landmark, and being positioned on a tall building on top of a hill, can be seen across many suburbs! It was erected in 1939, and fell into disrepair until it was restored and re-illuminated (minimally lit) in 1997. It is presently not illuminated. This is a very sad story. The Johnstons furniture sign. It has been left to rust and waste away. It has been out of use since 1985. The building that it is located in is occupied by a private gallery who most likely can't afford to turn it on. There were once a series of neon signs which adorned the Capitol Theatre at its construction in 1932. The most spectacular was a metal trough sign consisting of 2 metre tall letters spelling the word "CAPITOL". However, this sign was almost immediately overshadowed by the construction of the taller Manchester Unity Building next door. A number of signs existed on the front façade but have all been removed with the exception of this small neon sign on the side of the awning. Despite its appearance, the cast iron verandah which now conceals it is a recreation and the neon sign was once fully visible from the footpath. This sign is significant as a relic from this era. It is no longer functional. I bet this sign could be removed from its current location to a more prominent one, restored & repaired and illuminated to adorn the theatre once again. The Newspaper house sign dates from 1933 and is possibly the oldest surviving neon sign in Melbourne. It is no longer in working order but with some TLC i think it can be easily fixed. The 'Join the Druids' sign was installed in 1934 and sits seven storeys high on the south side of Druid House, the former offices of the Druids Friendly Society. The sign is no longer in working order. Does anyone have any information on the future of these signs? Im really hoping that they eventually get restored and re-illuminated. Im thinking of even writing to the owners of these establishments asing them to turn them on again or invest in getting them reapired. Neon signs are absolutely Beautiful and it brings tears to my eyes when I drive past them and see them lurking in the shadows when they should be bright, colorful and bring joy. more

Resolved Question: I'm thinking about setting up a t shirt business...Few Questions...?

Right, this idea has been playing on me for a while, i'm a big photoshop user and come up with some great designs, i also have hand drawn images thrown my way to use every so often. My idea is to set up a T shirt printing business but selling my own stock of t shirts and hooded tops (zip up and pullover) and on the side line doing custom orders. Heat Transfer, Vinyl Printing and Screen Printing...Which one is best, for business? Also saying buy whole stock i buy a t shirt at £1.00 would selling them for £15.00 each be ok? and buying a hodded top for 3.50 and selling them for £18.00 is that a good price? I know i will need some capital to buy stock and printing equipment as well as setting up a website. I do have a long term plan which includes a lot of promoting incl' Car shows, fashion shows, word of mouth, leaflets also self advertising ( wearing a t shirt which company contact info ) as well as having my car carrying signs about the company. My ideal annual turnover is £248.725 with the wholesale costs, promoting costs, web hosting and printing costs deducted. How come tax would be taking off? I would be proposing this idea towards a family member who runs multiple businesses and might be interested in this venture. also more costs that i need to take into account please let me know :) more
