Voting Question: Why doesn't Jonah Hex look good?

It has all the elements of a good movie! A bad-ass protagonist, a hot chic, guns, action, and so on... But it just doesn't look good, and I want so much to like it! But it just looks like it won't turn out good... I think it's because they started it's advertising campaign with "This film is not yet rated". Which could mean lots of things, gory fights, maybe a torture scene, and, hey, they're in the right era, why not a brothel? But then, near it's release, "PG-13". So if there's no chance, and guys are thinking this too, sorry ladies if you find me a pig, that Megan Fox is losing her top, she just shouldn't be in the film. Yeah, she's hot as hell, but she's a terrible actress. more

Resolved Question: whats your opinion on the possible choice, senate Alvin Green?

apparently, he came out of nowhere, living in his dads house, unemployed, although he until recently served in the air force, and army before that, receiving four medals on the way. he also apparently is waiting on a court decision where someone alleges that he showed pornography to a student at the University of South Carolina, which has not reached a verdict yet. he won the primary against the incumbent, who served four terms, after Alvin Green spent very little money campaigning, won with a 59% majority. people have apparently claimed that some reasons for his win (and candidacy) could be that (1), for voters unfamilar with either candidate, voted for greene because his name was on top. i sincerely hope this is not the reason, because it just proves how little effort voters put intp choosing a candidate, in most cases just looking at the political party; or (2), the surname "Greene" is popular among african americans, and voters wanting a black senator would've chosen this candidate. do I need to explain just why i hope this isnt the reason?; or (3), that some voters may have confused the name "Alvin Greene" with the soul singer "Al Green". i hope this isnt the case because choosing a candidate because they are a celebrity is just ridiculous. for one, they are usually dumb. two, its already shown just how much legal leeway they receive in court trials, with cases like michael jackson, the 1995 oj simpson trial, martha stewart, paris hilton, and probably at LEAST to some degree in politics with Ronald Reagan and Arnold Schwarzenegger; and my own reasoning, yet to be hypothesized by the media, (4) because of the recent anti-incumbent sentiment held, and because there hasn't been a black U.S. senator in the south since Reconstruction. however, i think that he would make an ok candidate. anyone who served as long as he did in the military should be a pretty good one, at least compared to the liars and cheaters we have in now. South carlina has recently been a hotbed of political scandals, and it was suggested that this could be another one, with some people saying that he is a republican plant, which personally doesnt make ANY sense to me, as he has had VERY little advertising, no website, and even no yard signs or bumper stickers. if he was a republican plant to beat out the incumbent, then it certainly was a bad execution of one at that. and there has been criticism to his form of speech, when he replies to yes or no questions, al he gives is a yes or a no, while politicians usually give a short, vague speech, using words that nearly every american is in favor of, e.g. "pro life", and "pro choice", every likes life, and everyone likes being able to choose, right? phrasing started by politicians. when you serve in the military, thats how you are trained to respond. you arent supposed to ask questions, or give lengthy elaborations, you are supposed to simply say "sir yes sir" or "sir no sir", without any questions. and after the probably ten years or so he served, you would expect that that would be how he speaks in nearly all situations.i dont want 2 be a cons- im saying i hope thats not the reason because i DONT want a politician elected by race. and this is not my reason, it was given by Senator Robert Ford in an interview on the topic, the only one of those reasons which was mine was reason number 4. the other 3 were taken entirely from another person, i just put them into my additional details, and i am not saying those are my views.and what makes you think that this has any RACIST motivation??? i am FOR his election!! (while i do agree that there are probably more blacks with the surname greene, its not racist. racist is against, attacking or degrading to blacks, this is just a fact, like how whites for some reason make up a lower percentage of prisoners. NOT racist. you idiot.) more

Voting Question: how can i reword this?

my daughter is driving while texting i have found these notes on the internet but i to make it so she understand im gonna have to reword this on i need help Texting on a cell phone is even more dangerous than talking. A study by Virginia Tech found that texting while driving on the highway increases the risk of having an accident twenty-three times. On average, a text message distracts a driver for about five seconds, which on a highway means about one-hundred yards. Off the highway, the University of Utah found that texting increases the risk eight times. 56% of teenagers admit to talking on their cell phones behind the wheel, while 13% admit to texting while driving. (Note: Because this information was given voluntarily by teens, actual cell phone use numbers may be much higher.) 48% of young Americans from 12-17 say they've been in a car while the driver was texting. 52% of 16- and 17-year-old teen drivers confess to making and answering cell phone calls on the road. 34% admit to text messaging while driving. In 2007, driver distractions, such as using a cell phone or text messaging, contributed to nearly 1,000 crashes involving 16- and 17-year-old drivers. Over 60% of American teens admit to risky driving, and nearly half of those that admit to risky driving also admit to text messaging behind the wheel. Each year, 21% of fatal car crashes involving teenagers between the ages of 16 and 19 were the result of cell phone usage. This result has been expected to grow as much as 4% every year. Almost 50% of all drivers between the ages of 18 and 24 are texting while driving. Over one-third of all young drivers, ages 24 and under, are texting on the road. Teens say that texting is their number one driver distraction. 'Texting' while driving is the act of composing, sending, or reading text messages, email, or making other similar use of the internet on a mobile device while operating a motor vehicle, such as an automobile, truck, or train. The practice has been viewed by many people and authorities as dangerous. It has also been ruled as the cause of some motor vehicle accidents, and in some places has been outlawed or restricted people have to stop. Texting while driving leads to increased distraction behind the wheel. In 2006, Liberty Mutual Insurance Group conducted a survey with more than 900 teens from over 26 high schools nationwide. The results showed that 37% of students found texting to be "very" or "extremely" distracting. A study by the AAA discovered that 46% of teens admitted to being distracted behind the wheel due to texting. One example of distraction behind the wheel is the 2008 Chatsworth train collision which killed 25 passengers. The subsequent investigation revealed that the engineer had sent 45 text messages while operating the train. A 2009 experiment with Car and Driver magazine editor Eddie Alterman that took place at a deserted air strip showed that texting while driving had a greater impact on safety than driving drunk. While legally drunk, Alterman's stopping distance from 70 mph increased by 4 feet; by contrast, reading an e-mail added 36 feet, and sending a text added 70 feet.[1] In the UK in 2009 Gwent Police worked with film maker Peter Watkins-Hughes and production company Zipline Creative to create the graphic short film "Cow", as part of a campaign to stop texting while driving.[2] The film earned honors in the Advertising Age's weekly Creativity Top 5 videos [3] and became an overnight worldwide internet hit after being shown on the American news program The Today Show.[4] On August 29, 2007, Danny Oates was killed by a young driver of a car, allegedly texting while driving. The defense had argued that driver Jeffrey Woods had possibly suffered a seizure during the time of the accident. [10] On January 3, 2008, Heather Leigh Hurd was killed by a truck driver who allegedly was texting while driving. Her father Russell Hurd has been actively supporting a law in various U.S. states called Heather's Law that would prohibit texting while driving. [11] The 2008 Chatsworth train collision, which killed 25 people, and which occurred on September 12, 2008, was blamed on the operator sending text messages while operating the train.[12] In 2009, a crash on the MBTA Green Line of the Boston area was blamed on a driver who was texting. This occurred nearly a year after the Newton, Massachusetts rail accident, which occurred on May 28, 2008, and was blamed on the operator using a cell phone while operating the train. A day after talk show queen Oprah Winfrey focused on the dangers of texting while driving, two members of the Georgia House of Representatives introduced bills that would ban the practice. “Don’t tempt fate,” said Rep. Amos Amerson (R-Dahlonega), quoting Winfrey. “That text or call can wait.” Amerson and Rep. Allen Peake (R-Bibb County) introduced similar bills that will likely me more

Voting Question: Please help! Is this a good narrative essay?

This is my first narrative essay. Please tell me what I can do to improve this. Anything is helpful. Sorry the grammar is not perfect, I did this in a rush. My first visit to Tokyo was a life changing experience. I did not want to go to Tokyo and I expected it to be a dull and boring trip, but I was provided with an experience of a lifetime and a new view on life. Walking out of the air conditioned train station with my mother, a blast of hot humid air surprised me and nearly pushing me backwards. As I walked out onto the sidewalk, I gazed up to the sky and saw many tall glass-plated skyscrapers. “Mom!”, I exclaimed, “what are these tall buildings for?” “Well Kurt”, she replied, “these are office buildings, where businessmen work.” “Will I ever work in one of these buildings?” I asked. “If you work hard in school and try your best you will one day” she explained. Walking down the street, I was surprised by the hustle and bustle of city life, the amount of people on the sidewalk and the amount of cars on the roads creating a never ending traffic jam. The sounds of hammering from constructions sites, the loud blasting music from stores and restaurants, the sound of cars honking, people talking and advertising campaigns was like music to my ears. These were the real sounds of a big city. Walking around Tokyo and taking in the sights and sounds, as sweat ran down my forehead, drenching my shirt, I was speechless. The city felt like a never ending maze with streets that led to streets upon streets. Walking past an alley, I noticed homeless people digging through dumpsters and sleeping in old, dirty stained clothing. “Mom, why are those people homeless?” I asked. “Because they do not have a job and do not have any money,” she explained. “I don’t want to end up like that when I am older,” I added. “Work hard, get a good paying job and make lots of money. Then, you will not have to worry about being homeless,” she stated. After walking around parts of Tokyo, my mother and I walked to the nearest train station, which was crowded with people as usual. Buying train tickets was very confusing. There were so many flashing lighted buttons the ticket machine looked like a Christmas tree. Finally, after purchasing the tickets, we made our way over to the train which was filled beyond its doors. Two men, wearing white gloves and police like uniforms, pushed people into the train as they tried to get everyone in. After the chaos of getting onto the train was done, I could only notice how full the train was. “Why are there so many people on the train,” I asked quietly. “Because most of these people are going to and from their jobs,” my mom explained. The train was like a giant sauna and there were so many people no one could move. Luckily, our stop was next and I did not have to bear the train ride any longer. The walk to Tokyo Tower was peaceful and refreshing. The route to the tower was through one of the few parks in Tokyo and it felt like I was in the middle of a forest, not in a city. I could hear the branches swaying in the wind, the birds singing and the bugs buzzing. As I approached the tower and looked up, I was impressed by how the tower stood out like a diamond in the rough. As the elevator went up, the city began to emerge before my eyes and I felt at ease to be out of all the chaos. I felt like I was on top of the world looking down at a never ending concrete jungle. Looking out at the view, I felt mesmerized by all the tall buildings. “What kind of people live at the top those tall buildings,” I asked, as I kept my eyes glued to the view. “People who have worked hard all their life,” answered my mom. “Why do they try so hard?,” I retorted. “Because you only live once and you should do everything you can to make the most out of life,” my mother stated, hoping that I will do as she says. Starring at the view, I was impressed and inspired. Just like the never ending view of the city, I realized that there is a never ending amount of opportunities and possibilities in life. In conclusion, my visit to Tokyo turned out to be more than a trip. The visit changed me as a person, taught me what was important in life and that I should work hard for what I want because things do not come easily. In addition, my visit to Tokyo showed me that we only have one life, therefore, we should work hard and make the most of it. more

Resolved Question: Do you feel sorry for Tiger Woods now that Gatorade has dropped him?

Seems like a number of former sponsors have cut the cord as well. Gillette said they "don't need the distraction" of Tiger Woods in their advertising campaigns. Do you feel sorry for him or is he getting a dose of reality? Is the price he is paying for his personal transgressions way over the top or fair? more

Resolved Question: Why is Obama still trying to sell "his" health care plan?

After all ... he took the biggest step BACKWARD for real health care reform last June ... By himself (Bipartisan?) ... In a smoke-filled room (On CSPAN?) ... For cash (In the PUBLIC interest?) ... from: (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/09/health/policy/09lobby.html?_r=1) more at: (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/08/09/flashback-obama-promises_n_254833.html) "The drug industry has authorized its lobbyists to spend as much as $150 million on television commercials supporting President Obama’s health care overhaul ..." "...a deal that the White House struck with the industry in June to secure its support. The terms of the deal were not fully disclosed." "...the industry lobbyists pressed the Obama administration for public reassurances that it had agreed to cap the industry’s additional costs ..." "Many Democratic lawmakers have railed for years against what they consider the industry’s excessive profits and pointedly insisted in recent days that they do not feel bound by the White House’s commitments." "The drug makers stand to gain millions of new customers from the expansion of health care coverage." ---- for cash ----- "Some supporters of the overhaul have hired public affairs and advertising firms with close ties to the White House and Senate Democrats, including GMMB, which worked on the Obama campaign, and AKPD, which previously included David Axelrod, who is now the president’s top political adviser." [Critics of President Obama’s health-care overhaul are zeroing in on his senior adviser David Axelrod, whose former partners at a Chicago-based firm are the beneficiaries of huge ad buys — now at $24 million and counting — by White House allies in the reform fight. Resolved Question: Now that 80% of those polled OPPOSE the Supreme Court, what now?

See the link: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ynews/ynews_ts1137 Another friend and I independently posted questions just after the fact expressing shock and concern at the Supreme Court's decision to grant "Freedom of Speech" rights to US corporations so that they could contribute unlimited money to any election campaign up to the day of the polls. My own question expanded to include the opinion expressed by former Justice Sandra Day O'Connor who described the ruling as "a debacle". In both cases, most answers supported the Court, and gave various explanations from the vague to the specific, including one 'Top Contributor' in the "Law and Ethics" category where I posted who condescendingly pointed out that The Constitution's guarantee to free speech did mentions "individuals" in its actual wording at all. I found that explanation downright Orwellian, and said so. But it did seem to match the opinion of the Court, and the majority of those responding on Yahoo Answers to my dumbfounded confusion. Now, only two weeks later, the vast majority of public opinion and that of lawmakers seems to bear out my initial reaction of disbelief. So. What to do now, and what does the decision mean in terms of the future of US elections? Are we, the public, as immune to advertising as the answerers claimed? Am I just Chicken Lickin' running around saying "The sky has fallen in!" ? Now that it appears that an unprecedented majority see this decision the same way -- as a travesty and a hideously dangerous precedent: What to do, and who will do it through what means?Of course that should be "the Constitution...did NOT mention 'individuals'... Thumbs Up to you Mike from Scottsdale> Due to your intro, guess/hope the rest is ironic. As for Spock, I have heard extensive reporting about the decision, and the interpretation of the Supreme Court's ruling both by legal experts and lay commentators seems unanimous -- whatever the side. Only the question of right or wrong was brought. I guess you think Sandra Day O'Connor, whose opinion I heard first-hand, is under-informed about the Law and The Constitution? more

Resolved Question: Why does everyone ignore .....?

Why is it that Michigan gets ignored by all mainstream media despite the tremendous turmoil it has been facing? One of the top 3 states for unemployment, slacking tourism which was only boosted by a now fund-less advertising campaign and now about to lose the Great Lakes because no one is forcing Illinois to close their locks. Asian carp have made their way up the Mississippi river and the only thing that can stop the horde of invasive fish is to close the locks. Allowing the carp into the lakes en mass will destroy the ecosystem of the lakes beyond repair and act as a death blow to Michigan. Where is the mass media news coverage of this impending disaster? Where are the officials that can put a stop to this invasion? I have seen only little blurps of news in magazines and new papers, but nothing on the major TV networks. Has everyone really given up on Michigan? http://www.aolnews.com/science/article/hordes-of-ravenous-carp-move-toward-lake-michigan/19342007 http://www.triplepundit.com/2010/02/asian-carp-part-ii-another-unwanted-expensive-invader/ http://www.lfpress.com/news/london/2010/02/01/12691996.htmlI can see how many can over look this as a local issue. Perhaps you haven't taken into account that the 5 Great lakes are the largest source of fresh water in the US. Oh yeah and the Lakes are shared with Canada, so killing off the ecosystem will not only cripple Michigan possibly beyond saving, but it could also turn into an international dispute when the US is blamed for not stopping the problem. Doug B. - Wildfires in California are broadcast on the news every year, there is a big difference between a city's crime rates and an invasive species killing a major ecosystem and do you know how many jobs have been lost because the automotive industry is nearly non-existent in the "Motor City state"? Every state has it's issues, yeah, but this fish species is wreaking havoc in the Mississippi river and it's going to get into the Lakes before there is any chance of stopping it. more

Resolved Question: The Mayweather vs Pacquiao random drug test scam?

Could GBP and Top Rank be using this fiasco to furthur add suspense and drama behind the Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight. Let's be real, March is way too soon to hold the biggest fight in history. This fight will take a great deal of promotion worldwide plus a global fight tour advertise the biggest fight in history. A fight in March will not allow the necessary time to have a great promotional campaign. This entire random drug test scam is planned out to get the fans more anxious and rowdy. The fight will end up taking place in September or October and the it will be highly campaigned. These 2 promoters are doing an excellent job of keeping everyone's mind and focus on Pacquiao vs Mayweather. What's your take on all of this? more

Voting Question: Help with advertising high end spa!?

I am a student doing a project on advertising a spa located inside a high end resort that caters mostly to foreigners. My target market is for the class A locals who live within/around the area, and I need to get them to come in and try the spa. The spa is zen infused and pricey. Interviews with certain Class A have generated skepticism as to why they should spend for something expensive like a spa when they can do shopping or travel somewhere far off. Even if it is for the Class A market, I'm still having a hard time making advertising campaigns (print, tv and radio) that don't sound or look cliche'. I have to avoid the typical woman looking at peace, flowers and stones on top of each other bit. I also need to convince them that the drive to the spa and price for the spa's services will be worth their while. Help on brainstorming for something creative/witty please! This is the spa's website (outdated but to be improved on upon project completion, i hope) : http://plantationbay.com/ please click on the spa button at top right. thank you! more

Resolved Question: Groups urge better census count of African-Americans in 2010?

Washington (CNN) -- Civil rights leaders Wednesday lobbied Commerce Secretary Gary Locke and top Census Bureau officials to press for a better count of African-Americans in the 2010 census. The U.S. government already plans a nearly $200 million advertising campaign aimed at getting people to respond to the census, which is used to set congressional and legislative districts and allocate federal funds. But National Urban League President Marc Morial said more needs to be done to make sure underrepresented communities are included. "My takeaway from the meeting is that the secretary listened intently and took our concerns very seriously," Morial told reporters after the meeting. But he added, "We still feel there are important, significant steps that need to be taken to ensure that there is a complete count in the 2010 census." Benjamin Jealous, president of the NAACP, said the 2000 census undercounted African-Americans by nearly 3 percent. He said the Census Bureau needs to hire more black managers and subcontractors so "the firms that know these communities best are calling the shots." African-Americans make up a large proportion of what census workers call "hard-to-count" groups, which also include other ethnic minorities and immigrants, children and poor people, said Corrine Yu, senior counsel and managing policy director for the Leadership Council on Civil Rights. In addition, many of those communities show a "general distrust of government" that has hindered participation, she said. Video: Calls for census changes RELATED TOPICS U.S. Census Bureau Studies conducted since the 1940s show those demographics "are all likely to respond to the census quest at lower rates," Yu said. Complicating things further this year are the lingering effects of Hurricane Katrina, which displaced hundreds of thousands of people in the Gulf Coast states of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Four years after the 2005 storm, the area still has large numbers of people in temporary housing and a high rate of vacant homes, according to an August report by the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights. The report found the Census Bureau plans to hand-deliver questionnaires in some of the hardest-hit parts of the Gulf Coast and launch an extensive ad campaign to get people in the stricken areas to take part in the count. The avalanche of foreclosures over the past two years also is likely to make hard-to-count populations more difficult to tally as well, because many people in those groups have been forced to move, Yu said. "We don't know exactly how this is going to work, because this is a unique circumstance," she said. "But that kind of displacement, whether it's natural disaster like Katrina or a man-made disaster like the foreclosure crisis, will be a new challenge for the 2010 census." The delegation that met with Locke also included Rep. Barbara Lee, D-California, the head of the Congressional Black Caucus; and two of the most visible U.S. civil rights activists, the Revs. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, both of whom have made Democratic presidential bids. Morial said the group also asked that prison inmates be included in counts of their hometowns, not where they are held. He said that with about 1.3 million African-Americans in prison out of a total black population of about 40 million, "What we have in the prison population issue is a built-in undercount." Jackson said the delegation did not receive any commitment from Locke on that issue, which he said might need to be addressed by the Justice Department or Congress. Yu said that issue was unlikely to be resolved in time for 2010, but was "an important issue for consideration for the 2020 census." more

Resolved Question: Question about hotjobs.com. Which option below would you choose and why?

Now, join the decision team at hotjobs.com. Which option would you choose and why? *Option1: Focus on a few major cities or on employment in one industry. - Because the biggest job markets (and potential revenue) are in handful of U.S cities, Dimitri could spend precious advertising dollars selectively by remaining a specialist in technical jobs only or by focusing exclusively on the New York area. But, Hotjob's profits would be limited and vulnerable to local market conditions. Furthermore, online companies were attracting investors, so if Dimitri didn't position Hotjobs as a national player, he might miss his window of opportunity. Well-funded competitors would go national, then return to the local markets and crush Hotjobs. *Option 2: Act local, look national. - By focusing advertising on the country's top seven markets, Dimitri could concentrate his sales force in Hotjobs' regional territories (espacially New York where the national media is strong), hitting each with short blasts of a multimedia and telemarketing campaign. This option would include limited spending on national television advertising, giving Dimitri more bang for his advertising buck while establishing Hotjobs as a premium players. It would also allow messages to be customized to each city. However, a poorly planned and executed advertising message could make Hotjobs seem like a Low-budget, regional player-making larger companies and job seekers reluctant to sign up for a company they perceived as too small. *Option 3: Advertise aggressively to position Hotjobs as a national brand - By coming out fighting on a national level in this new industry, Hotjobs would get a head start by establishing itself as a leader in the business for years to come. But, Hotjobs' main competitor Monster.com was better funded and already had an established public image. With much less money to invest, Dimitri could end up with no brand image while exhausting his limited advertising dollars. Thank you for your time :) more

Resolved Question: Will Obama administration and the media ( together) going to downplay today's electoral victories for the GOP?

They will, to the mainstream media, not be relevant to or any sign of a rebuke against Barack Obama and his far left agenda. In fact, the media is already beginning the narrative that we cannot see today as a referendum on Barack Obama. Consider these facts: New York 23 Barack Obama sent Joe Biden to visit. Obama's White House negotiated Dede Scozzafava's endorsement of the Democrat. Scozzafava and Owens both supported and campaigned on supporting the stimulus. New Jersey Obama sent his top pollster to take command of the race. Obama visited multiple times, including the day before the election. Obama is featured in most of Corzine's advertising. The Democratic Governors Association and DNC all pumped in a ton of money. Corzine ran on helping Obama at the state level. Virginia The Democratic Governors Association spent $4 million to get Creigh Deeds elected. The Democratic National Committee spent $6 millino to get Deeds elected. Obama campaigned for Deeds multiple times. Organizing for America sent a mail piece to 300,000 "surge voters", or voters who voted for the first time in 2008, urging them to vote for Deeds. Organizing for America set up phone banks for Creigh Deeds. It appears to me, that this is bigger to the Democrats than they have let on.... more

Resolved Question: With moslems trying to screw us, might this be another 0bama scam to distract us from the Sodomized Medicine?

CAIR Spent $160,000 to Silence Savage New book Reveals Memos Behind Campaign to Run Radio Star Off the Air Posted: October 14, 2009 9:00 am Eastern By Art Moore © 2009 WorldNetDaily (San Francisco Chronicle) Michael Savage An explosive new book based on a daring six-month undercover operation exposing the subversive agenda of the Council on American-Islamic Relations reveals the Muslim group spent $160,000 in an unsuccessful effort to run top-rated nationally syndicated radio host Michael Savage off the air. Internal CAIR documents uncovered in "Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld That's Conspiring to Islamize America" show that despite its high cost and the continued success of Savage's show, CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad believed the campaign was "worth every penny," because, he says, the radio star lost at least $1 million in advertising . Authors P. David Gaubatz and Paul Sperry recount how CAIR ran out of money before it could crack Savage's most loyal sponsors. As WND reported, Savage sued CAIR in December 2007, two months after the Muslim lobby group began urging "people of all faiths" to contact Savage's advertisers to protest "anti-Muslim bigotry" on the air. CAIR cited Savage calling the Quran "a throwback document" and "a book of hate" and demanding CAIR be thrown out of the country for promulgating it. Savage's copyright infringement and RICO lawsuit alleged CAIR illegally published singled-out quotes and audio excerpts from the show regarding Islam, misappropriated his words and used the clips for its own fundraising purposes, damaging the value of his copyrighted material. Judge Susan Illston of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California dismissed the case, determining CAIR had a legal right to use excerpts of a public broadcast for purposes of comment and criticism. But Illston ruled in Savage's favor when CAIR attempted to extract attorneys fees. Savage declared Illston's November 2008 decision a "huge victory for me, personally, but also for the rest of America who is afraid of this lawsuit-happy group of intimidators." In their new book, Gaubatz, a counter-terrorism investigator and former federal agent with vast experience in the Middle East, and Sperry, a veteran reporter on the war on terror and author of "Infiltration," document CAIR's role as a U.S. front for the Muslim Brotherhood's plan to transform America into an Islamic nation under the authority of the Quran. In a chapter titled "Blackmailing Corporate America," the authors show how CAIR tries to intimidate major corporations and media figures, such as Savage. An internal memo – one of thousands of pages extracted by Gaubatz's son Chris, who posed as a Muslim convert and became a CAIR intern for six months – showed CAIR considered broadening its campaign against Savage. The effort against the talk-radio star included formation of a nonprofit called Hate Hurts America, which published on its website lists of advertisers along with contact information. A CAIR staffer wrote in an internal memo that the "idea behind Hate Hurts America is great and has the potential to go far. However, I feel that if you want to continue with HHA and not lose momentum, the campaign needs to expand beyond Michael Savage to other bigoted talk show hosts." The report noted that it's much easier to get the attention of large corporations rather than small firms or franchises, because large corporations like AT&T have a reputation at stake and "don't want to be associated with anything that might seem controversial." The CAIR memo said, however, companies that are endorsed or directly promoted by Savage on the air, such as Life Lock or Swiss America, are "an absolute no" for targeting. "They are loyal to Savage and there is a chance they might sue," the memo said. False figure As WND reported, the British government apparently seized on campaigns against Savage by CAIR and others when it used his name to provide "balance" to a "least wanted list" dominated by Muslim extremists. Savage's ban from entry to the U.K. prompted an invitation from the Cambridge Union to debate political correctness via a video link, but the society canceled his appearance, scheduled for tomorrow, citing "legal issues" among other problems. The chapter in "Muslim Mafia" covering Savage's ordeal with CAIR also shows how the Islamic group has tried to intimidate Hollywood and companies such as Nike, Bank of America and US Airways by citing a false figure of 7 million American Muslims who are ready and willing to boycott their services. Despite widespread use of the figure in media, propagated by CAIR and others, the Pew Research Center recently estimated the American-Muslim population to be only about 2.35 million. The book also reveals CAIR recently has teamed up with the American Civil Liberties Union to consolidate resources onmc93433 is another coward that will not allow a direct response so here it is in the clear: mc93433 I'm SO grateful that you have such keen wit and great analytical skills to help straighten me out. Resolved Question: So what if most Americans don't seem to want the flu vaccine? So what?

(I received an extremely rude answer the first time I asked this, almost confirming my suspicions that there are people posting here who have a vested interest in promoting the H1N1 vaccine. So I had to ask this again. If you're going to debate, and you need to be rude, please go to the politics category.) in ref to: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/10/09/AR2009100903216.html?hpid=moreheadlines According to this article, only about 40% of the people polled indicate they will get the flu vaccine, but this article suggests there's something wrong with this--as if the all important word isn't getting out that you "should" get the flu vaccine. The same article opens with Anne Schuchat, head of one branch of the CDC telling the public, "Vaccine against flu is the best way to protect yourself . . . and those around you," but this is no fact. It's the opinion of a so-called "expert" working for the government in a field that has plenty of unknowns. Much like the FDA, her opinion is also likely to be highly biased in support of the pharmaceutical industry. Heck, someone like Donald Rumsfeld is a major stock holder for the company that makes Tamiflu. So, it's suspect why listening to the advice from the government about who "should" get vaccinated is completely justified. Despite such a never before seen campaign to scare the public into getting a flu vaccine, there has yet to be shown convincing evidence that this year there's more reason to get the vaccine compared to any other year. H1N1 is no superflu, and now and then even the media has to admit most people infected get mild symptoms and recover in a matter of days. But they've started with the "rising deaths from H1N1" headlines, and the articles don't mention the numbers of deaths from other strains of the flu, so no meaningful comparisons can be made. Instead, there's the underlying message: You better get the vaccine now before you're too late. But the truth is it doesn't even matter in most cases whether you get the vaccine or not because your immune system can develop its own antibodies even to H1N1. That's how it's been done for years. Influenza is not polio. Your immune system can fight it unless you have a pre-existing disease that seriously weakens your immune sytem (e.g., asthma, cerebral palsy, AIDS, muscular dystrophy). So why then are they making such a big deal out of it if most Americans are saying they'd rather not pay $30 or so twice for two vaccines that contain both aluminum and the controversial mercury compound Thimerosal (mercury-free version is not always available) and that causes headaches, muscle aches, fatigue, and fever for up to several days? (Sounds like the flu, but proponents of the vaccine downplay it by calling it "side effects.") Resolved Question: Times Private Treaties providing small brands the ‘X’ Factor?

Times Private Treaties investments seem to have provided the small brands X Factor in terms of brand building, mainstream advertising and reputation management. One of the recent successes has been a small lesser known e-waste recycling company Eco Reco which claims that they have seen a substainatial growth in the number of new clients since April 2008, when their first ad on Planet Earth Day appeared. Currently, the company has more than 200 corporate clients across India, such as Siemens, Reliance, Infosys, HCL and HDFC and many more including several companies of Tata Group, Mahindra & Mahindra and Castrol. The company feels that this is due to the buzz and brand equity generated by their informational and brand campaign in partnership with Times Private Treaties. Similarly a B2B compnay Unitek Power, which fundamentally provides industrial power solutions, belives that the brand reputation earned through advertising via a Times Private Treaties client has enabled them to win large orders. Last year this Kerala-based electronics company had signed an exclusive tie-up with the Italian pioneer, Borri Industrial Power Solutions The Unitek-Borri Power Solutions got Rs 32 crore order from L & T for Cairns Energy. Another example is Royal Hygiene, a new entrant in the feminine hygiene products range which has attained a number three position in the market by registering a growth of 225% in sales last year. The company attributes this success largely to their brand building efforts undertaken since May 2008 post their alliance with Times Private Treaties. Says, Rakesh Kaul, CEO of Royal Hygiene, “Ever since the alliance with the Times Group, there has been a substantial increase in the top of the mind recall over the past one year.” Times Private Treaties model is based on providing brand building and advertising opportunities to smaller less known companies to help them create their brand and unlock value. This model enables companies to advertise in BCCL vehicles in return for equity in those companies. This also helps the company to bring in many first time otherwise media shy advertisers and increase BCCL’s advertiser base. more

Resolved Question: Why are Hispanics trying to control free speech Latino leaders are displeased with what they see want Dobbs?

Why are Hispanics trying to control free speech Latino leaders are displeased with what they see want Dobbs fired ? Two national advocacy organizations have joined the campaign against CNN show host Lou Dobbs, saying that most Latino leaders are displeased with what they see as his inflamatory remarks on immigration and other issues and some are threatening to target advertisers that support his show. In doing so, advocacy groups Democracia Ahora and the League of United Latin American Citizens are joining a coalition of Latino groups targetting Dobbs in 25 U.S. cities -- including Latino Leadership and the Democracia Ahora chapter in Orlando. CNN's public relations office in Atlanta had not responded Friday to requests for comment. The Lou Dobbs Tonight show on CNN focuses on immigration as one of its top issues and often criticizes Hispanic advocacy organizations. Dobbs had to apologize earlier this year after accusing the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of condoning "Mexico's export of drugs and illegal aliens to the United States." Most recently, he has upset Hispanic leaders because of his focus on "illegal alien loopholes" in health care reform that many have denounced as false claims. Democracia Ahora said it will launch its own "Enough is Enough!" push to counter "the daily drum roll of misinformation and offensive commentary" on Dobbs' show. The organization had Bendixen and Associates conduct a survey of Hispanic leaders that showed most of them "are offended" by the show "as a result of his direct verbal attacks on the immigrant community and his misguided characterization of the Hispanic community as a whole." The Democracia group found that 90 out of 100 Hispanic leaders "ranging from members of Congress and heads of Latino advocacy groups, to CEOs of top American companies and the most prestigious Hispanic journalists and academics in the country" disapprove of Dobbs' show. “Latinos are contributing to the fabric of this great nation in immeasurable ways, from backbreaking work in the nation’s farm fields to active civic engagement and participation in the Democratic process," said Jorge Mursuli, President of Democracia Ahora. "It is truly unconscionable that a world class news network such as CNN continues to directly and indirectly attack our community." The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is complaining that Dobbs is attacking their organization specifically, having called it a “left wing socio-ethnocentric group.” “Over the years, Lou Dobbs has consistently used his CNN platform to spread hate and fear. We are asking his sponsors to stop advertising on his show,” said LULAC president Rosa Rosales. http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/news_hispanicaffairs/2009/09/drop-lou-dobbs-fight-escalates-as-hispanic-groups-target-advertisers.html Where are these same voices in the make Mexico a better country debate ? more

Resolved Question: Anybody notice how healthcare "reform" will end up producing HUGE profits for Insurance/BIG PHARMA?

As the "reform" currently stands: 1)There would be no public option (no competition for insurance companies) 2)There will be a mandate to buy insurance or face a tax penalty (50 million new customers for the insurance industry) 3)Obama's BIG PHARMA deal means that importing cheaper prescription drugs from Canada is completely out of the question (50 million new insured will need drugs too:) What the hell is this accomplishing?? (Other than creating huge profits for BIG PHARMA and the insurance industry)?? OH YEAH, and it costs almost a trillion dollars. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090906/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_health_care_overhaul As Obama prepares for a Wednesday night speech to Congress in a risky bid to salvage his top domestic priority, political adviser David Axelrod said a public plan is not the core issue in the health care debate. White House spokesman Robert Gibbs danced around a question about whether Obama would veto a bill without the public option. The president "believes the public option is a good tool," said Axelrod, who joined with Gibbs in a one-two punch on the Sunday talk shows. "It shouldn't define the whole health care debate, however." Their appearances came ahead of Congress' return this week from a summer break that saw eroding public support for an overhaul and contentious town hall meetings in lawmakers' districts. Gibbs called the government plan a valuable tool. But asked if Obama would reject legislation that didn't include it, he responded: "We are not going to prejudge where the process will be." "I doubt we are going to get into heavy veto threats" in the president's speech, Gibbs added. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FhYzOni6tbw&feature=player_embedded Air America segment in which Obama is labeled "a charming liar" for selling out to BIG PHARMA by making backroom deals with lobbyists. (Which broke MULTIPLE campaign promises......lobbyists, transparency, corruption etc.) http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/08/13/internal-memo-confirms-bi_n_258285.html A memo obtained by the Huffington Post confirms that the White House and the pharmaceutical lobby secretly agreed to precisely the sort of wide-ranging deal that both parties have been denying over the past week. The memo, which according to a knowledgeable health care lobbyist was prepared by a person directly involved in the negotiations, lists exactly what the White House gave up, and what it got in return. http://campaignsilo.firedoglake.com/2009/08/19/the-baucus-caucus-phrma-insurance-hospitals-and-rahm/ " Sources familiar with the lobbyist meeting described it as collegial, but they said Baucus’ aides made clear that any public opposition to the proposed financing of a reform package would be at their clients’ peril. The staffers’ message to K Street was clear: Tell your clients to let the process work and don’t torpedo it with advertisements, press releases and Web sites. The goal of keeping stakeholders at the table was threefold: 1. Keep them from advertising against the White House plan 2. Keep them from torpedoing vulnerable Democrats in 2010 so there isn't a repeat of 1994 3. Keep their money out of GOP coffers You can see the fingerprints in the deals that they made: the $150 million PhRMA was spending on ads for health care reform, the $2.5 million they spent helping vulnerable freshmen, and the total fury that Boehner has unleashed on PhRMA and other stakeholders for making deals with the White House. People make a mistake when they think the battle for health care reform is about ideology, because it's not. It's about who controls K Street and the cash that flows from it, which could fund a 2010 GOP resurgenece -- or not. more

Resolved Question: Whats a good attention getter to write the letter below?

Assume the role of vice president of marketing for Krisbee Snax, a midsized snack food manufacturer in the Northeast. Your company is introducing a new snack food. The snack food industry is very competitive, and you believe your best chance to introduce the new product, Krisbee Korns, is to get grocery stores to feature the tasty, low-fat snacks on their end-of-aisle displays. Your company has a good reputation for quality snacks, and this new product promises to be a top seller. However, most grocery stores reserve the end-of-aisle display space for the bigger food companies in the industries. You are willing to offer a sizeable discount (50 percent) in the price you charge retailers for the new product in exchange for this prime location in their stores during the month of September. In addition to this promotional allowance, you also plan a big advertising campaign for this new product, which should increase their sales even more. Write a letter to Ms. Betty Eagleston, corporate buyer for Thriftway grocery store chain, persuading her to feature Krisbee Korns on the end-of-aisle displays in Thriftway stores during the month of September. Write to her at the corporate headquarters located at 4815 Crane Creek Road in Avondale, WV 24811. more

Resolved Question: What is the necessity for never-ending advertisements?

Do we really have to have commercials blaring at us constantly from day to day to day? They have almost completely taken over every facet of our senses. We see billboard after billboard, commercial after commercial. The incessant repetitiveness of these campaigns are useless. Sure...it's cool to announce a new product, or even an improved version. But why are companies worldwide spending millions of dollars on the bombardment. It already costs a lot of money to make the commercials and to get the broadcasters to air the promotions. I always enjoy seeing the Super Bowl commercials and i really think that is where the line needs to be drawn. On average a half-hour television program is only 20 minutes long. the remainder of the time is spread out from beginning to end for commercials(personally, i'd rather be watching the show that is on, than to watch some stupid commercial on erectile dysfunction and the little blue pill that can make it all better or the stupid accident lawyer commercials that really make me wanna get into an accident just so i'll have the chance to be killed or what about the condescending college commercials? there's another reason to commit suicide). That's ten frikkin minutes that could be added to the program itself! Commercials on our radio waves are just as bad. I find it really amusing how radio stations will get their Top DJs to promo their segment's sponsors. That itself is just a shortcut in advertising to curb but a meager fraction of the cost. Not to mention when i listen to the radio i want to hear a nice run of music. Not stupid commercials with a music break in between. i have this weird feeling that should advertising be brought down a couple of notches, the major companies would probably to be able to lower some of their prices on the merchandise they over-pay to advertise as it were. Advertising has us chasing things we don't need with money we don't have(which is where them payday and car title loans advertisements come in). Advertising is designed to convince Consumer America that they cannot live their life sustainably, or will never be considered successful, or will never be able to satisfy their wife without that particular product. The problem is that Consumer America believes them! How is it that we as a nation can be so gullible and naive? It's a never-ending, vicious cycle of deception.Perhaps i didn't explain myself correctly. I was basically asking what is the need for all this repetition in advertising. You see all these companies boast of their long-standing tenure in business. So, if we know they are here, why do they need to constantly announce their existance? I couldn't really care less whether or not this is a competition...and i really couldn't care less whether or not our advertising protocols are "tame", as some people tend to view this monstrosity. The fact of the matter, and coincidently my point, is repetitive advertising is useless and moot. Consumer America doesn't suffer from Alzheimer's (although i do believe Consumer America suffers from Down Syndrome) with our short-term memory out of synch. We can remember things...we don't need this bombardment. "Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy [stuff] we don't need." -- Tyler Durden more

Resolved Question: ex meat promoter says hes ashamed of himself (once he saw the farm)?

http://nz.news.yahoo.com/a/-/top-stories/5574673/investigation-pig-farm-ordered-tv-footage/ Agriculture Minister David Carter says animal investigators will inspect a pig farm after he was shown footage of conditions there, filmed by an animal rights group. TVNZ's Sunday programme aired footage by Open Rescue, who were accompanied by comedian Mike King during a break-in to a North Island intensive pig farm. King, who was the long-standing front man for a campaign advertising pork, said he was deeply ashamed of his role in promoting that type of farming. The pigs were unable to move and obviously in distress, chewing at the cage bars and frothing, King said. It was "callous, evil" treatment of pigs and the sound of "screaming" pigs he would never forget. "If I had known this was going on I would never have supported this. I firmly believe that anyone who sees this would say this has to stop." The footage was passed on to another rights group, Save Animals from Exploitation (SAFE), who contacted the Sunday show. Mr Carter today urged Safe to reveal the location of the property so it could be inspected by Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry animal welfare investigators. "The television images were disturbing. It is essential we find out if this intensive pig farming operation is in breach of the Animal Welfare Act. "If SAFE has the welfare of these animals at heart, it needs to provide details of the property today so the authorities can the take appropriate action. I have asked MAF to undertake an inspection as soon as we know the farm's location," Mr Carter said. SAFE campaign director Hans Kriek said the minister would be given the farm's location, most likely by tomorrow, but expressed concern Mr Carter was "playing games to a degree". He said Mr Carter was attempting to "dilute" the issue by making it out to be a rogue farm, not typical of those found around the country. "This is an average New Zealand farm," Mr Kriek said. Green Party animal welfare spokesperson Sue Kedgley criticised Mr Carter's apparent lack of knowledge regarding pig farms after being shown the footage on the Sunday programme. "Mr Carter looked shocked and said he had no idea sow stalls were widely used in New Zealand ," Ms Kedgley said. "I am incredulous that the minister, who has been chair of Parliament's agriculture select committee for three years, would not know sow crates are used widely by New Zealand pig industry.meat industry caught red handed alot of people were shocked to see this as if they werent even aware so I think alot of people went vegeterian after hearing about that more

Resolved Question: Murphy nails..............................?

Murphy has own nail making business, and he wants it to be the best in the world. So he goes to a top advertising agency to have them create a marketing strategy. The agency assures him they can create a memorable advertising campaign in a week. The following week Murphy goes back to the agency and is shown in to a small theatre to view the finished commercial. The lights go off and screen springs into life. On the screen is a sunset over a desert. The camera pans around to a hill and zooms in to the top of the hill. At the top of the hill is a wooden pole. The camera climbs up the pole to where a couple of feet are hanging. It then carries on up to a man's torso, up to his face, and there is Jesus' face. It then moves along an outstretched arm, to a hand pinned firmly to a stake by a gleaming nail. On the nail is proudly emblazoned: "Murphy's Nails" A caption appears on the screen "Murphy's nails - they'll never let you down" Murphy is outraged, "You'll get me shut down," he screams, "That's blasphemous! I'll give you a week to come up with a decent campaign or I'll go elsewhere. " A week later Murphy goes back to the advertising agency and is shown into the theatre. "This had better be an improvement" he warns. The lights dim and the screen leaps into life. On the screen is a Roman street with lots of people milling about. The camera then pans quickly to left to see Jesus running like hell being pursued by two Roman guards. The camera then zooms in on the two guards, to catch one saying to the other "This would never have happened if we'd used Murphy's nails. " more

Resolved Question: What is the best MMO (outside of WoW and GW)? (Plz click to find out what I'm looking for)?

Hi! I'm looking for another MMO to play. I've played WoW but it costs too much to maintain every month for my currently limited budget. So I've resorted to playing Guild Wars for the past year, but I think I need a break from it. Plus, it's frustrating waiting for Guild Wars 2. I've had some really bad experiences with other games, so I'm skeptical about trying other advertised games UNLESS I get a good review of them. The potential MMO must have the following: -- Missions and Quests (primary reason I play any RPG-- video or table top-- is for the quests) -- Campaign storyline (preferred -- I'm aware this is rare in MMOs) -- Henchmen! (Not required, but this would be a VERY BIG PLUS. I'm aware that this may not exist in other MMOs. But henchies in any RPG are good for cannon fodder esp. when you need to save yourself and other players. I tend to command my henchies to run into monsters and distract them while myself and the other players sneak by). -- Awesome special effects (esp. during battle) -- Decent graphics (Anime graphics perferred... for a change) -- Must have an incentive for monster grinding (REQUIRED -- going up levels and getting cool items isn't enough for me). In GW, my character gets reputation points, which leads to titles and special abilities that come in handy for my elementalist character. In WoW, I tended to go on dungeon crawls with online friends and the socializing kept me from getting bored with killing monsters. Plus, it was very easy for me to find friendly people while on the WoW trial. Games I've played so far: --Ragnarok Online: This game is nothing more than a glorified chat line. It also had too many botters and people who would use special bombs to clear out dungeons WHILE OTHER PLAYERS WERE DUNGEON CRAWLING. When I complained to the GMs, they did nothing about the problem. Plus, there were only quests to gets special hats for your character to wear. -- Maple Story: Cute game, but too many tweens who call other gamers N00B for no reason. Where I come from N00B is slang for baka, stupid, and idiot. Plus I've been booted from guilds for no reason and no explanation (even though I logged on once a day). Plus, there are only collection quests (like Ragnarok) and killing monsters without any incentive got really boring. -- Runescape: This is a poor man's Guild Wars POSER. Just pay the one time fee of $30 for GW Prophecies and get the real thing! Plus alot of Maplestory people often play this game. -- Dungeons and Dragons Online: Anything created by the Turbine company means you have to be a rich gamer and maintain a $3000 gaming comp with a gigantic hard drive space to play without tech problems. I know. I've played this. Plus, somebody please kill that stupid narrator! And the players are rude too! I need to point out that neither WoW nor GW has such crazy computer requirements and those 2 are standard in the MMO world! -- Lord of the Rings Online: Another game from Turbine. Requires expensive gaming comp to play. -- Silkroad Online: Great game with awesome graphics EXCEPT that the servers are constantly full so I can't log on. Plus, the quests are too bland and uninteresting. IMO, I think the programmers need to learn how to write more engaging fantasy stories. They really need to study the Star Wars Ep. 4's script to learn how to write a basic hero story structure. Once you learn the basics, then you can do your own variations. So that's about it. In your opinion, what MMO should I check out? If you need to know my computer specs please check out http://www.xfire.com/profile/sliderkta/ more

Resolved Question: December 21st, 2012: legitimately scary?

Ha! Caught you! The question swerves abruptly: Check out Sony Pictures' viral advertising campaign for the Roland Emerich-directed 2012. Woody Harrelson as a crazy person? Genius! But seriously, look at the Institute for Human Continuity web site they've created. Graphics look classy, science is obviously bogus and ridiculous, and of course Sony has to link from the bottom...but I think that plenty of the morons who regularly post here about this garbage might just fall for it. So my question is: is stoking "end of the world" fervor to promote a movie -- and a bad movie at that, courtesy of noted over-the-top-with-special effects (10,000 BC, The Day After Tomorrow) director Emerich -- ethical? Should Sony feel good about themselves doing this? more

Resolved Question: Should President Obama be sued for deceptive advertising? Do you want a refund?

President Obama advertised himself to me as someone who would keep his word and was firm on his incredible campaign promises. In less than 10 days of being President, he has already broken a major promise. He promised: "lobbyists won't find a job in my White House." Resolved Question: Would You Take this Dream Job?

Australia offers 'best job in world' on paradise island … SYDNEY (AFP) – An Australian state is offering internationally what it calls "the best job in the world" -- earning a top salary for lazing around a beautiful tropical island for six months. The job pays 150,000 Australian dollars (105,000 US dollars) and includes free airfares from the winner's home country to Hamilton Island on the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland's state government announced on Tuesday. In return, the "island caretaker" will be expected to stroll the white sands, snorkel the reef, take care of "a few minor tasks" -- and report to a global audience via weekly blogs, photo diaries and video updates. The successful applicant, who will stay rent-free in a three-bedroom beach home complete with plunge pool and golf buggy, must be a good swimmer, excellent communicator and be able to speak and write English. "They'll also have to talk to media from time to time about what they're doing so they can't be too shy and they'll have to love the sea, the sun, the outdoors," said acting state Premier Paul Lucas. "The fact that they will be paid to explore the islands of the Great Barrier Reef, swim, snorkel and generally live the Queensland lifestyle makes this undoubtedly the best job in the world." Lucas said the campaign was part of a drive to protect the state's 18 billion Australian dollar a year tourism industry during the tough economic climate caused by the global financial meltdown. "Traditional tourism advertising just doesn't cut it sometimes and we are thinking outside the box by launching this campaign." more

Resolved Question: ASPCA pitch ad for money with pics of sad puppies and "Arms of an Angel" song. Sappy enough? Sick of it yet?

I am an animal lover and I give generously to help the shelters. But the ASPCA has been playing this sad, sad commercial, showing video of rescued animals with their poor sad faces...and to lay it on even thicker, they play one of the slowest, saddest, and sappiest songs ever written -- i.e. "In the Arms of an Angel" by Sarah McLaughlin. I believe in giving sympathy and showing care for those in need. But when I am absolutely POUNDED over the head, again and again, with the sad sad pitch for more money, more money, more money...Well it gets to be a bit of a turn off, you know? How about you? Do you change the channel when that Sarah McLaughlin song comes on because you know the ASPCA is trying to tear your heart out with the saddest pictures they can find? The ASPCA is a good organization, mind you. But whoever is directing their advertising and promotion campaign in my opinion, has gone just a bit over the top such that I feel less for them now that I have been bombarded by these pictures for over a year. Can't they maybe come up with a new campaign that isn't so sticky and drippy? Brings me down every time I see that ad. How about you? more

Resolved Question: Has the Holy Spirit "called" fundies from the "Strip Church" to destroy the struggling Vegas economy?

Well, apparently the "spirit" has "called" a bunch of fundies from Grand Rapids Michigan to move to Vegas and destroy one of America's biggest economies. Not only do they have a million dollars in funding, but now they also have a ABC Nighline feature to give them a PR boost. According to their neat little religious meterics, Vegas is unclean and they want to clean it up, which of course, if successful, would mean the end of Vegas as a destination to escape religious wackos...or the end of Vegas. When it really comes down to it...thats all Vegas is...a place to escape the insanity of religion. But these wackos claim to be "called" to this neat little "ministry". If thats so, why has the spirit waited so long to send in his little squad? Maybe the spirit wanted to wait until all the neat internet technology and mega-church entertainment props were availble before launching a his little ad-campaign. If this doesnt work, I recommend that the Holy Spirit "call" on the top marketing exec's in the country, zombify them, and send them on a self righteous anti-vegas campaign with first rate advertising, instead of this shlocky undergrad stuff. http://stripchurch.com/  more

Resolved Question: What is your opinion on the political agenda behind mainstream media?

There is a big difference between the mainstream media and just the media. The mainstream media is controlled by a few large companies that own other companies like CNN, CBS, ABC, Fox, NBC, etc. These companies own a lot more than just that. They own the majority of newspapers, TV stations, radio stations, magazines, movies, they sponsor sports and now they control the google and yahoo search engines. They get their money from their business partners or “special interests”; companies like GM, GE and Boeing. GE pays let’s say CNN only if CNN’s news benefits them (just like how people say there are liberal stations (CNN, ABC, etc.) and then the “Republican” station (Fox)); if GE benefits greater from CNN’s “liberal” news, than GE will advertise on that channel. So, for CNN to make money, they have to make news that benefits their special interests (i.e. GE’s interest). Beneficial news also includes showcasing the candidates that benefits them the most. The candidates that benefit companies like GE the most are the candidates that agree to pass legislation, in return for campaign money. This becomes an almost unstoppable triage of power. Company = Money, Money = News, News = Candidate, Candidate = official, official = legislation, legislation = money for company, and back around again. GE gets billions of dollars in war contracts with our government that the officials push (for re-election money). That’s our tax money going into official’s campaigns (and pockets) that you don’t even vote for. So, for GE to get the contract the officials need to persuade the public to get them in the right mindset for things like war. How do they do that? Well they have CNN/the mainstream media report “good news” such as: “we need a presence in Iraq”, “Palestine is our enemy” and “terrorists are coming”, etc. That scares the heck out of the public. So, what do people do? They find someone that’s strong on foreign policy, right? “John McCain, strong on foreign policy; just what America needs!” They give Americans just what they want right when they need it. What happens then is the political web called politics. They try and stick you with one issue or another until you consent (vote) with them. If it’s not his “strong” foreign policies, then it’s his “pro-life” stance, if not it must be his “tax breaks for the middle class” or his strategy for “energy independence” or just his personality. Then McCain or whoever gets elected and WAM, more policies to help the companies that got him elected in the first place. Are you starting to understand the process? It’s a giant monopoly. All these companies that profit from war are doing it because they are guaranteed contracts, including companies like (Carlyle Group) that President Bush, Bush Sr., and the Binladen’s were in; Halliburton that Dick Cheney was CEO of and Chevron that Condoleezza Rice was in. When a CEO of a company sits on a top position in government, that should literally make them a conflict of interest and the company is supposed to be excluded from any ability to contract with the government. That’s not the case here. Time and time again conflicts of interest sit at the top positions of our government and their company gets the contract. The mainstream media assists them, their company gets the contract and again the people are left with nothing but a sign standing outside the white house protesting their corporate-war. The non-mainstream media is basically everything that wasn’t produced by these large companies or their subsidiaries. They are usually people that write for their own causes just like I’m writing this. There usually isn’t any money involved and definitely no conflicts of interest. The rest of the media usually covers stories that the mainstream won’t cover and that is the beauty of it. It’s important to hear both sides of the story and not just both sides of the mainstream view, as we already know is loaded with commercialized propaganda that supports the views of billion dollar corporations and truly the views of the people on the board of directors that steer that company (conflicts of interest). People write for all sorts of purposes whether it’s for humor, or to direct attention to an important cause that isn’t getting any support. This is the rest of the media, usually made by small independents that believe in something other than profit. So, to merge this with the rest of what I’m saying… The R’s and D’s. “They” have found a way to split Americans in half. They have actually found ways to split us in many ways. Why? Because the real conflict is between the company owners and workers; unions versus companies, or people versus bosses. Race, religion, ethnicity, nationality, political status, etc. have nothing to do with it, they are all distractions. The fight between R’s and D’s is just another division amongst PEOPLE to keep them divided and when people are divided they don‘t have the strength ththey once had. Also, now people are fighting each other instead of the big bosses that are running the show. There is no solution to the problems that the bosses have brought up. This is the distraction that keeps the real issues from being solved. The real issue is how much should I pay my workers versus how much profit should I, the CEO be allowed to keep? What is morally right when it comes to making profit? This is the trunk from the tree of issues. It splits off later but if we fix the base, the rest should heal properly. Let’s go over a few examples… Slavery… Was it a black/racist thing or was it for profit for the owners? The fight against communism… Why would we care how other sovereign countries are run? Well, communism is the opposite of capitalism. Communism never worked because we wouldn’t let it. In a capitalist country the companies own/run everything; in a communist country the government owns/runs everything. That means that if the world increasingly becomebecomes communist the capitalists are losing out in potential profit. That is where the CIA comes into play and over-throws their leadership and we plant our puppet governments to spread “democracy”. The war on terror… I already explained this on-going war. There is no end to it; the bombs we drop to stop it are also creating it, mean-while the rich business owners who happen to be the same people in our government that is propagating it make money. The war on drugs… What started the war on drugs? The workers in South America were being abused by their owners, i.e. cheap labor, no benefits, harsh working conditions, etc. Well, these people (workers) were the majority of South America. They got together (creating a union) and decided to nationalize their own countries lands. So, when the people took their land back, the corporations fought back. The company leaders went to the white house and told the president that the countries that they were doing business in were turning ccommunist. We then sent in the CIA to check things out, the CIA killed the union leaders, the unions and families became pissed and decided to attack oil pipelines, the US then sent our mainstream media to show the American population how violent these “communists” were, then we sent in bomber planes to kill these communists. Well, since these communists were regular people and not aliens, they lived in regular urban villages, and so normal cities were bombed flat. The people that lived through the bombings formed groups like the FARC to defend their homeland. Since their farms, their jobs and homes were blown to pieces they needed ways to make money. Drugs were legal to grow there so they grew drugs to make money. That is where the war on drugs came from. It’s not about the drugs. The drugs are the peoples money source and there is no better way to defeat someone than to stop them financially. So, the whole anti-drug stuff originated from the US attempting to put a stop to ththe unions in South America. It’s either slave away in these corporation sweat shops or fight back. Well, anyone who is patriotic enough and is against enemies will fight back. The problem now is how far should we go to destroy these lives? On one hand we could stop the bombings and save billions of tax payer dollars but people world wide will know that the machine can be stopped. That could encourage a world wide outbreak of unionizing and nationalization of natural resources. That would be bad for business. On the other hand we could keep fighting the S. Americans, make private company CEO’s billions of dollars from supplying the war but at the cost of human lives and American tax money. That would be great for the businessmen, bad for the regular American. It’s the same situation as the war on terror, actually it’s nearly the exact same war only a different name and in different locations. I can go on and on but I will leave it here. So, the mainstream media is the mediawhich is owned by a few large corporations; is edited to well suite their interests, is used to manipulate the public and to propagate anything for profit as well as entertainment. While plain old media is any form of media that isn’t owned by the main companies that own everything else. When using a video as reference, it is a pretty raw cut of action when there aren’t billion dollar companies editing the material. You will get a better real-life perspective using regular media and your opinion is completely up to you at that point and not slanted to fit a political agenda. more

Resolved Question: Obama-Farrakhan Ties Are Closer than obama says?

Why are we finding all this out way to late? This is very disturbing. What do you think? A former top deputy to Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan tells Newsmax that Barack Obama’s ties to the black nationalist movement in Chicago run deep, and that for many years the two men have had “an open line between them” to discuss policy and strategy, either directly or through intermediaries. “Remember that for years, if you were a politician in Chicago, you had to have some type of relationship with Louis Farrakhan. You had to. If you didn’t, you would be ostracized out of black Chicago,” said Dr. Vibert White Jr., who spent most of his adult life as a member and ultimately top officer of the Nation of Islam. White broke with the group in 1995 and is now a professor of African-American history at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. White said Obama was “part of the Chicago scene” where Farrakhan, Jesse Jackson, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. and radicals would go to each other’s events and support each other’s causes. “Even though Chicago is the third-largest city in the country, within the black community, the political and militant nationalist community is very small. So it wouldn’t be uncommon for [Obama and Farrakhan] to show up at events together, or at least be there and communicate with each other,” White told Newsmax. The Anti-Defamation League has denounced Farrakhan and his Nation of Islam as a “hate group.” Farrakhan has called Jews “bloodsuckers,” “satanic” and accused them of running the slave trade. He has labeled gays as “degenerates.” In a 2006 speech, the ADL again condemned Farrakhan when he said: “These false Jews promote the filth of Hollywood that is seeding the American people and the people of the world and bringing you down in moral strength. … It's the wicked Jews the false Jews that are promoting lesbianism, homosexuality. It's wicked Jews, false Jews that make it a crime for you to preach the word of God, then they call you homophobic!" Obama was careful to “denounce” Farrakhan’s comments – but not the man -- during the Democratic primary season earlier this year, but only after Hillary Clinton called him out for benefiting from Farrakhan’s support. Farrakhan endorsed Obama in a videotaped speech to his followers at Mosque Miryam in Chicago in February. “You are the instruments that God is gonna use to bring about universal change, and that is why Barack has captured the youth,” Farrakhan said. He told the crowd that Obama was the new “messiah.” See Video: Farrakhan Endorses Obama, Calls Him Messiah. Once the news media and the Clinton campaign got hold of those comments from Farrakhan, demands mounted from all sides that Obama “renounce” Farrakhan. But as he has done repeatedly throughout this campaign, Obama was careful to parse his words. “You know, I have been very clear in my denunciation of Minister Farrakhan's anti-Semitic comments,” he said during one appearance on “Meet the Press.” “I think that they are unacceptable and reprehensible.” Obama hastened to point out that Farrakhan had been praising him as “an African-American who seems to be bringing the country together. I obviously can't censor him, but it is not support that I sought. And we’re not doing anything, I assure you, formally or informally with Minister Farrakhan.” But Obama, once again, was less than candid. In 1995, according to a profile of Obama that appeared in the Chicago Reader newspaper, Obama “took time off from attending campaign coffees to attend October’s Million Man March in Washington, D.C.” At the time, Obama was running for the Illinois Senate from Chicago’s South Side, a seat he won after getting surrogates to challenge the signatures on nominating petitions for his chief rival, the incumbent Alice Palmer. The march, which fell far short of attracting the million men it advertised, was organized by Farrakhan and by Obama’s then-pastor, the anti-white black nationalist Wright. Obama spoke at length with the Chicago Reader upon his return from the Million Man March. “What I saw was a powerful demonstration of an impulse and need for African-American men to come together to recognize each other and affirm our rightful place in the society," he said. “These are mean, cruel times, exemplified by a ‘lock ’em up, take no prisoners’ mentality that dominates the Republican-led Congress,” Obama said. “Historically, African-Americans have turned inward and towards black nationalism whenever they have a sense, as we do now, that the mainstream has rebuffed us, and that white Americans couldn't care less about the profound problems African-Americans are facing." “Black nationalism” is a current of thought and political action in the African-American community that has been championed by the likes of Farrakhan, Wright, Malcolm X, the Black Panthers and Khalid al-Mansour. Obama discussed his attraction to black nationalism at length in more

Resolved Question: How come they have stopped all attacks on Gov. Palin all of the sudden?

I did see two different ladies that were high up supporters of Sen. Clinton and they stated that the attacks from media and "subtle" attacks from the campaign were the same as what happened to Hillary. Wonder if that did it. I mean it was like "open season" on her and then nothing. Trust me I have had a general foreman, foremans in nuclear and oil refinery construction, advertising, sells, you name it and they did a top notch job and women may not appreciate the way these ladies have been done. Let's face it they bring us into the world and raise us and many have to be the father and mother, run a household, while working two jobs sometimes and more. They have been honored around the world and leaders in the normal democratic countries around the world, so this backfired on them. The women are tough! Ha, ha, what answers. I saw one of the ladies on Cnn if not mistaken and on one of these sites debbieschlussel.com or atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com. Funny how she has been drug through the mill, but Sen. Obama has "sealed" everything. Wonder why they didn't just seal stuff. more

Resolved Question: Would you visit a site aimed to "control your media"?

Basically i am wondering if you would visit a site that aims to take back advertising as it is meant for us. It would basically be a way to voice your opinion and vote for your favorite ad campaigns and dismiss others. There would be a sort of top 10. This would be used to show advertisers the error of their ways and that they are epic failing, or that they are bang on. Let me know more

Resolved Question: Is Obama in your child textbooks too?

Obama Pushed on Our Kids in 8th Grade Textbook Over at RealDebateWisconsin [1] Fred Dooley was contacted by the mother of a Racine Unified School District 8th grade student in Wisconsin public schools about an outrageous thing she found in her son's school textbook. Apparently, in this textbook supposedly teaching about literature, one of the books being pushed as a perfect example of that subject is Barack Obama's memoir Dreams from my Father. That's right, a book by a current political candidate for president is being pushed on our children as "literature." It also seems probable from campaign donation records that a principle member of the publishing company is a large Obama donor. One would think that focusing on the ideology of a politician currently running for president would be a bit over-the-top even for our extreme left leaning system of education in this country. But there it is anyway. The book even presents a photo of the Senator at a campaign rally with signs advertising his campaign website address to help better indoctrinate the kids. Of course, the very first question that comes to mind is this: how wide spread would this story have become if it were a Republican featured in a kid's textbook? Would the left-o-sphere stand silent as John McCain appeared in school textbooks? Would the Old Media ignore such a story? Somehow, I doubt it. Who can doubt that the story would be such big news that the school district would have been shamed into taking such propaganda out of their school rooms apologizing for their lack of judgment as they do so. A book like this with McCain included would never even have made it out of the publishing house before stories would have been leaked to the press. Certainly it would be national news. But, in this case, the textbook is manufactured without opposition and is passed out to kids without a peep from the usual suspects. The mother and her child have asked to remain anonymous for fear of reprisal from the school. So, their names are withheld to protect the innocent family from any possible harm that might come to this boy or his grades in an apparently ideologically extreme school system. However, we have plenty of scans of the book to prove the case isn't just unsubstantiated claims. On one page, for instance, the kids are urged to discuss what makes them "proud" before they read Dreams from my Father. The message here is that an Obama candidacy is supposed to make everyone "proud" apparently. If you stand against Obama, I guess you stand against pride, huh? A few photos from Obama's childhood are also included, showing that a simple discussion of the literary worth of Obama's book is not all the textbook is interested in. The Wisconsin Mother wrote the following: My 8th grade son is in an advanced English class at a public middle school here in Racine, Wisconsin. I just found out that my son's new (copyright 2008) Wisconsin - McDougal Littell Literature book has 15 pages covering Barack Obama. I was shocked - No John McCain, no Hillary Clinton, no George Bush - Just Barack Obama. I'm wondering how it is that Obama's story gets put into an 8th grade literature book? It would be one thing, if it was just the tidbit about his boyhood days, but 15 pages, and they talk about his "Life of Service". Honestly, what has Obama really done to be included in this book? Not only that, but on page 847 there is a photo of Obama at the 2004 Democratic Convention with at least 8 Obama signs in the background! Front & center is an www.obama2004.com sign. Now I understand that many teachers are liberals, but does the school have the right to shove Obama down our kid's throats? All the kids grouped together and read the story. After that, they discussed it... I guess it appears that Obama is planning ahead. If he doesn't get his coveted Presidency, Obama is going to make sure, that the younger generations know all about him, and his "life of service". If you would like to see the 15 page story on Obama, it appears that you can order this book online. There is a note in the book that says, For more on Barack Obama, visit the Literature Center at www.ClassZone.com [2] The book is: Wisconsin - 8th grade - McDougal Littell Literature - copyright 2008. The Obama story starts on page 830. I hope you will take the time to look at this book. I'm really angry about this - In fact, I would love to rip the pages right out of this book. By the way, you might find this interesting: I did a little checking on McDougal Littell, and it appears that MCDOUGAL, ALFRED L CHICAGO , IL 60611 - N/A/RETIRED has been making contributions to Barack Obama's campaign! I found that information on this website. http://www.newsmeat.com/fec/bystate_detail.php?st=IL&last=MCDOUGAL&first=ALFRED [3] Now I'm not an expert at these things (just a PTA mom), but It looks to me like Alfred McDougal is connected to McDougal Littell the same company that publishes the 8th grade textbook that has 15 pag more

Resolved Question: Does $90 Million in ads versus $1.6 Million in advertising make the difference?

Obama will have spent $90 Million in advertising for his campaign and McCain/RNC $1.6 Million. Are voters basing their decision on TV ads alone? Or just top of mind? Or is that, if you tell a lie often enough ($90 Million Dollars in ads enough), people believe it? Barack Obama spent $3.3 million in TV advertising on Monday. At that rate the Democrat will spend more than $90 million on ads through Election Day -- more than all the money Republican rival John McCain has to spend on his entire fall campaign. McCain's ad spending Monday totaled about $900,000 and the Republican National Committee weighed in with about $700,000 worth. http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5glxLRJGYXl2qCzirOL_o5HIuXamAD93N9IS80  more

Resolved Question: How do you know when McCain or Palin are lying?

At the start of the general election campaign, it looks like John McCain gave the Straight Talk express a Dishonorable Discharge. Everywhere you look, people are talking about how the McCain campaign has spread massive quantities of lies on the campaign trail. Even ads that the McCain campaign has made that claim to be fact-checks turn out themselves to need fact checking. According to an article by Michael Cooper and Jim Rutenberg in today’s New York Times http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/13/us/politics/13mccain.html : A McCain advertisement called “Fact Check” was itself found to be “less than honest” by FactCheck.org, a nonpartisan group. The group complained that the McCain campaign had cited its work debunking various Internet rumors about Ms. Palin and implied in the advertisement that the rumors had originated with Mr. Obama [They didn’t]. In an interview Friday on the NY1 cable news channel, a McCain supporter, Senator Orrin G. Hatch of Utah, called “ridiculous” the implication that Mr. Obama’s “lipstick on a pig” comment was a reference to Ms. Palin, whom he also defended as coming under unfair attack. “The last month, for sure,” said Don Sipple, a Republican advertising strategist, “I think the predominance of liberty taken with truth and the facts has been more McCain than Obama.” Indeed, in recent days, Mr. McCain has been increasingly called out by news organizations, editorial boards and independent analysts like FactCheck.org. The group, which does not judge whether one candidate is more misleading than another, has cried foul on Mr. McCain more than twice as often since the start of the political conventions as it has on Mr. Obama. The article also points out how McCain was confronted by Joy Behar on the Barbara Walters ABC show called “The View” about two specific pieces the McCain campaign are putting out are complete lies. This latest article by the Times comes on the heels of Paul Krugman’s article of two days ago titled “Blizzard of Lies” http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/12/opinion/12krugman.html How do you know when McCain or Palin are lying? Their lips are moving. In the last 40 years, Presidential elections seem to come down to whether the public will allow the Republican candidate to lie themselves into the White House. We had lying about John Kerry’s service in 2004, lying about pretty much everything about Al Gore in 2000, the dishonest Willie Horton ad in 1988 gave George H. W. Bush the Presidency, etc. Here are some of the top campaign lies by McCain and evidence to the contrary: 1. McCain lie - Obama plans to give sex education to kindergarteners. Fact: Obama wants kindergarteners and other kids to know how to deal with attempts of inappropriate touching by sexual predators. 2. McCain lie – Obama plans to increase taxes on working families. Fact: The non partisan Tax Policy Center says that four fifths of the population, which is those of us making less than $200,000 per year, would get a bigger tax cut from Obama than McCain. 3. McCain lie – Obama is making nasty attacks on Palin.  more

Resolved Question: British athletes bare all for advertising campaign

Some of Britain's top athletes have decided to bare all ahead of the Beijing Olympics. Triple jumper Phillips Idowu, cyclist Rebecca Romero and swimmer Gregor Tait have all been photographed taking part in their individual sports stark naked as part of an advertising campaign for a sports drink. "Everyone is used to seeing athletes in competition or winning, but we wanted to give people the chance to see the real make-up of an athlete and their muscle and power," said Cathryn Sleight, marketing director for Coca-Cola Great Britain, which launched the Powerade campaign. Idowu said the photo shoot was "definitely one of the more unusual shoots I've taken part in, but also one of the most enjoyable." how strange!!! more

Resolved Question: Is it accurate to compare Sen. Obama to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton ?

According to CNN: (CNN) -- Britney Spears, Paris Hilton ... Sen. Barack Obama? A new campaign ad from Sen. John McCain -- which flashes shots of the two aforementioned megacelebrities -- calls Obama a megacelebrity, too, and questions his leadership ability. "Will people think of this as negative advertising? Look, it's the most entertaining thing I've seen on TV in a while. I wouldn't anticipate anything about this being negative," he said. Steve Schmidt, another top McCain adviser, also said it was accurate to compare Obama to the two celebrities who, as one reporter said on the call, are often portrayed as "frivolous and irresponsible." http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/07/30/mccain.ad/index.html?section=cnn_latestOne must admit there are striking similarities.... Britney's parenting skills have often been called into question. As for Obama, what kind of father takes his kids to a hate church? more

Resolved Question: Do you believe Obama really understands the details of the issues or is too vague?

I respectfully suggest that his campaign staff produces great TV, great photos, and upbeat cheers and music but when he talks, it damn near puts me to sleep. I only see a well funded and very slick advertising campaign. Will a big slick campaign succeed in putting him over the top? more

Resolved Question: Statistics, question please help.?

CASE: SHELL ATTEMPTS TO RETURN TO PREMIERE STATUS The Shell Oil Company, which began about 1912, had been for decades a household name as a quality oil company in the United States. However, by the late 1970s much of its prestige as a premiere company had disappeared. How could Shell regain its high status? In the 1990s, Shell undertook an extensive research effort to find out what it needed to do to improve its image. As a first step, Shell hired Responsive Research and the Opinion Research Corporation to conduct a series of focus groups and personal interviews among various segments of the population. Included in these were youths, legislators, academics, and present and past employees of Shell. The researchers learned that people believe that top companies are integral parts of the communities in which the companies are located rather than separate entities. These studies and others led to the development of materials that Shell used to explain their core values to the general public. Next, PERT Survey Research ran a large quantitative study to determine which values were best received by the target audience. Social issues emerged as the theme with the most support. During the next few months, the advertising agency of Ogilvy & Mather, hired by Shell, developed several campaigns with social themes. Two market research companies were hired to evaluate the receptiveness of the various campaigns. The result was the “Count on Shell” campaign, which featured safety messages with useful information about what to do in various dangerous situations. A public “Count on Shell” campaign was launched in February 1998 and met with considerable success: the ability to recall Shell advertising jumped from 20% to 32% among opinion influencer's; more than 1million copies of Shell’s free safety brochures were distributed and activity on Shell’s Internet “Count on Shell” site remains extremely strong. By promoting itself as a reliable company that cares, Shell seems to be regaining its premiere status. Today, Shell continues its efforts to be “community friendly.” United Way of America announced Shell Oil Company as one of its three Spirit of America Summit Award winners for 2002 and commended the company for its outstanding volunteer and corporate contributions programs. Several Shell employees were recognized by the Houston Minority Business Council for their continued efforts to provide windows of opportunity for minority business owners and strengthen Shell’s commitment to supplier diversity. Shell employees and retires give back to their communities through such Shell-sponsored activities as America’s WETLAND campaign, Shell’s Workforce Development Initiative, and other community/quality of life and environmental projects. Shell is also a strong supporter of the Points of Light Foundation, which strives to engage people more effectively in volunteer community service. Discussion: 1. Suppose you were asked to develop a sampling plan to determine what a “premiere company” is to the general public. What sampling plan would you use? What is the target population? What would you use for a frame? Which of the four types of random sampling discussed in this chapter would you use? Could you use a combination of two or more of the types (two-stage-sampling)? If so, how? 2. It appears that at least one of the research companies hired by Shell used some stratification in their sampling. What are some of the variables on which they are stratified? If you were truly interested in ascertaining opinions from a variety of segments of the population which regard to opinions on “premiere” companies or about Shell, what strata might make sense? Name at least five and justify why you would include them. more

Resolved Question: Where can I purchase a bottle of Grand Marnier 150?

At the top of the heap is the Grand Marnier 150, a blend of Grand Marnier made using the highest-quality 50-year-old Cognac. It costs in excess of 200 USD per bottle and is often very difficult to find – indeed, an advertising campaign for it used the line: "Hard to find, impossible to pronounce, and prohibitively expensive." http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-grand-marnier.htm ---------- I'm in Los Angeles. To Dan: Cuvee Du Centenaire is mixed with some cognac that's 25 years and Cuvee Du Cinquantenaire 50 years (not the whole bottle, and not 100 and 150 years)... more
