Ministry of Attorney General
MISCELLANEOUS STATUTES AMENDMENT ACT INTRODUCED
BILL 13.... Municipalities Enabling and Validating Act – Amendments will provide the municipalities of Vancouver, Richmond and Whistler with temporary enforcement powers to enable them to swiftly remove illegal signs and graffiti during the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The legislation does not change the existing scope of authority to regulate signs and graffiti. Rather, it provides, on a temporary basis, a faster way of removing signs and graffiti that violate municipal bylaws during the short period the Games are underway.

Nobody wants some embarrassing incident during the 2010 Winter Games that will give Vancouver a black-eye in the global community. Afterall, we’re spending billions of dollars to put on a Winter Games aimed at boosting Canadian pride and celebrating the skills of our athletes.
But the politicians have got it wrong if they think that they’re not embarrassing us by giving police, security forces or any designated municipal employee in Vancouver, Richmond and Whistler the extraordinary power to enter people’s homes and take down any “advertising-matter”— albeit with 24 hours’ notice.
What’s particularly offensive about this draconian power is that no one is willing to define exactly what “advertising-matter” is. Does it include Tibetan flags? Does it only mean Pepsi posters since Coke is an Olympic top sponsor? Does it mean Olympic rings coupled with anti-Games slogans?
Instead Vancouver’s bylaw (which I wrote about in the summer) and the bill currently before the B.C. legislature leaves the defining to the discretion of whoever might be designated to enforce this.
The municipalities and the province are also poised to increase the penalty for sign offenders to $10,000 from $2,000 and up to six months in jail.
As Robert Holmes, president of the B.C. Civil Liberties Association points out, six months in jail is usually reserved for criminals, who have a record of several conviction for breaking and entering.
And isn’t this rich? When I went searching for a copy of the province’s Bill 13, I found the government’s contest for middle and secondary students to produce a video to celebrate the International Day of Democracy. The contest ends Nov. 15 and the grand prize is. . . a trip to Victoria and a tour of the legislature.
Here’s part of what the contest promotion says: “Democracy is dependent on the expression of ideas and a culture of tolerance. Political tolerance implies freedom of expression, open dialogue and a diversity of views. It is the role of democractic [sic] institutions, such as parliament, to mediate tensions between diverging opinions and to accommodate the participation of all sectors of society.”
I’m betting that any student tackling the issue of free expression during the Olympics won’t be winning that exciting trip to see our provincial politicians in action.

moreResolved Question: Good advertising ideas?
Heey, I've been asked to come up with posters advertising a new Nike fitness website, aimed at students and business men/women.
I have an idea for both and was wondering if i could get some feedback - what you think, would you would change etc. Thanks :]
For the students - Three students at school on computers, two end ones are wearing uniforms and the middle is in a Nike sports kit. They have their backs facing us so the audience doesn't see what they are doing on the computers, but assume the middle is using the Nike site.
I hope i haven't explained it too badly, i just liked the symmetrical layout and thought it could be simple yet effective.
Business men/women - A male behind a desk in an office, top half he's wearing a suit jacket, shirt and tie. his feet are on the desk and is wearing football boots, socks and shorts. the computer is open in front of him. Slogan reads "Bringing fitness to you" (Or something similar)
Ok thanks :]
By the way it's only for college, i'm not a professional lolWow i love the 2nd idea, although i'm meant to be doing posters not an advert, although if i were i'd definitly use that! :]
moreResolved Question: I need help on choosing a career to do my project on?
It sort of has to be something we're interested in. I'm just asking for suggestions of careers I should do my project on. It has to be sort of a broad topic so it's easy to find information on it. It can't be anything dealing with professional sports or entertainment (such as actors, singers, etc. )
I was thinking of what I was interested in. I'm somewhat interested in advertising, like the whole concept of coming up with ideas and slogans to promote something but copywriters work with art directors and I can't decide which to choose from... I was also looking into producing, like for a television show or movies. I honestly wanted to do something being a writer for a comedy show or something but my teacher said that's a bit too narrow. I can't just say I want to be a writer because there are so many different types of writers to find sufficient information on it. So please help me...just a career that may include these sort of aspects I'm trying to have included in my project. I'm more of the creative type and every job just seemed not to be enough such as Art directors. I liked that they looked over the whole artistic creativity side of the object that is being promoted but being a copy writer is interesting too since copy writer and art directors usually work together. I can come up with slogans and such but i'd like to be part of the art aspect to it. And so I was wondering about producers, some producers act in what they're in, they work on the creative script and sets everything up and visualizes the whole movie/show. I need help lol. any ideas what so ever? I was also looking into like journalism but i don't know, it's just such a broad topic. i don't want to go narrow but then not have anything to work on about it. suggestions would be great, thank you.

TOPIC: HOW MANY TYPES OF ADVERTISING ARE THERE? PRESENT THE FEATURES AND EXAMPLES OF EACH TYPE. ANALYZE THE APPROPRIATENESS OF THEM.
Nowadays, almost companies can’t lack advertising to introduce their products or services to market. There are many types of advertising. Each type has different role and appropriateness. So, this essay will focus on three types in three paragraphs. Introducing about print advertising in the first paragraph; and then, introducing mass media advertising in the second paragraph; and finally, introducing outdoor advertising in the third paragraph.
Today, advertising products via print media is a common practice. The print media include all newspapers, newsletters, magazines, booklets, pamphlets, and other printed publications. The role of print advertising is to offers basic information about the company, their products or services to the selected audiences. Most print media are local. Magazines, on the other hand, have always been national, although there is a trend today toward localization and specialization. There are a huge amount newspapers and magazines are published everyday. But only some types tend to a particular group people. For examples, sporty newspapers are written for men, teenage magazines for teenagers, etc. Therefore, select the right type of newspapers or magazines is important decision of the company, which may reach larger selected audiences. According to a statistic, in Vietnam, at present, there are about 600 newspapers and magazines. Almost companies, which are operating in Vietnam, are advertising via print media; for examples, Vinamilk, FPT, Honda, etc.
Mass media advertising is popular most and impact in people’s awareness of the companies and their products. This type includes TV, radio and internet. Mass media advertising is more than simply persuasive messages. Through text and through images, the ad conveys values and beliefs, and these have meanings for those who read, listen or watch them. In this type, cost is the main obstacle for companies which want to advertise on TV. Moreover, just as print ad, mass media ad also has many channels tend to many different objects. Consequently, if the company advertises with reasonable duration and right channel, the company will not waste more money and their advertising still effective. Due to the great role of mass media in the life, nowadays, there are many companies use mass media for their main publicity. For instance, Unilever present their products as OMO and Comfort, P&G with Tide and Downy, etc.
Outdoor advertising, one of the oldest and most enduring forms of advertising, is advertising on signs that are located outdoors in public places. This form includes billboards, trade fairs, sporting evens, etc. Outdoor advertising captures the viewer's attention 24 hours a day. True, it has limited coverage. But a well-planned outdoor campaign can effectively cover most major markets. The main features of this type are brevity of the message and cannot target customer. So, the message usually is slogan of the company, such as Canon Corporation with the slogan is “Delighting you always” or Toyota with sentence “Moving forward”, etc.
In short, using which types and using on which time is important decision of the company. In my opinion, with carefully choosing, the company can get what they need from all the variable advertisements
moreResolved Question: (Multiple Q's) Can you help me with a name and slogan for my taxi service?
I live in Sulphur, Oklahoma, a small town, and we don't have a taxi service. We have a (singular) little bus, but it only runs weekdays from 8 AM to 4 PM. They stop picking up people at 2:30. Most of the time, they will say they will come and pick you up, and then show up 2 hours later and you have walked there and back already. Because of this, I'm starting a taxi service with my bicycle (after reading this- http://www.instructables.com/id/Homemade-Sport-Utility-Bike-SUB/?ALLSTEPS ) I actually got the idea from one of the commentors who made one that said taxi on it. With a fare of $2 USD an hour, how would I go about starting/advertising this? I'm in a small town, so I don't have to get permits and licenses, as the cops have better things to do, like break up fights at our neighbors house at least twice a month, usually more depending on drug and alcohol consumption. So what should I do? I don't know how the bus would take to my presence, however, and I don't know if the pay is enough to feed me to compensate for the energy burned by hauling people around. I need to know how to get lots of passengers, but not to much as I am only one person, and can't carry 8 hundred people at once.
Summary-
1. How can I advertise?
2. How can I get passengers?
3. What should I call it?Radio, TV is not an option. We have no local TV stations, and only two radio stations, and almost nobody around here listens to the radio, unless they are in a car.Sorry, I meant $2 a mile, not $2 an hour.
moreResolved Question: Is my wife as beautiful as first thought?
Many moons ago, I had the unfortunate experience of socialising at one of those impugnable public houses, you know, the sort of place where plebeians gather to drink cheap ale, wear tatty tracksuits with names such as Nicky sports emblazoned across their person. While we're on the subject, what are those unhealthy looking paintings drawn on their body and do they get paid any money for advertising these slogans?
Anyway, where was I, Oh yes, Surprisingly I had a wonderful evening, drinking an abhorrent amount of gin and a Belgian brew named Stemma or something or other, then at a twinkle of an eye my current wife walked in, her hair was like silk glistening at every turn, her eyes shone across the room, with a beautiful smile, and seemed to have a fantastically pummeled torso. However, the following morning, and ever since really, I now don't see her quite in the same light, she now looks bedraggled, has terribly grotty teeth, overweight to say the least and has grey hair. Truth be told, don't know what I seen in the wench to begin with. Anyone else had a similar experience and does it have a name?
This really is the dizzy heights !
