Who said this.... "Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not, nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not, unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not, the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan "Press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race."Calvin Coolidge... Obama loses the Left: suddenly, it's cool to bash Barack http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/barackobama/7805775/Obama-loses-the-Left-suddenly-its-cool-to-bash-Barack.html The ladies of The View, the liberal-dominated morning talk show moderated by Whoopi Goldberg, spent a lot of time last week sympathising with Mrs Obama about how difficult it must be to argue with a husband who never shows any fire or emotion. Even the liberal chattering classes are deserting Obama. Maureen Dowd of the New York Times jeered that his "Yes we can" slogan had been downgraded to "Will we ever?", while fellow colunnist Frank Rich blasted his "recurrent tardiness in defining exactly what he wants done". Perhaps Obama's toughest critic over the BP oil slick has been James "Rajin' Cajun" Carville, the mastermind of Bill Clinton's 1992 presidential campaign and one of those Democrats who represents the beating heart of the party. He blasted Obama's "political stupidity" and "hands off" attitude, concluding: "It seems the President is madder at his critics than he is at BP." His point was proved when Robert Gibbs, Obama's hyper-aggressive spokesman, responded: "I don't think James understands all of what we're doing. I don't think James understood the facts." Carville is a Louisiana native who had spent more time viewing the oil-soaked coastal wetlands than anyone in the White House. It is an irony of Obama's presidency - which came into being because he was the unBush - that it shares some of the worst traits of his predecessor's administration. Among these are insularity and a blinkered arrogance. moreResolved Question: Slogans for 2012 presidential election?

Republican "Drill Baby Drill" Democrat "Spill Baby Spill" moreResolved Question: How did they distance the Republicans from their "drill baby drill" slogan?
On October 2, 2008, at the Vice Presidential debate between Sarah Palin and Joe Biden, "drill, baby, drill" reached a new prominence. Joe Biden, referring to the energy crisis and McCain's 20 votes against funding solar and wind energy, stated that McCain thinks "the only answer is drill, drill, drill. Drill we must, but it will take 10 years for one drop of oil to come out of any of the wells that are going to be drilled." Palin responded by saying, "The chant is 'drill, baby, drill.' And that's what we hear all across this country in our rallies because people are so hungry for those domestic sources of energy to be tapped into." Republicans continued to use the slogan after the 2008 election. In 2010, however, the slogan received renewed attention because of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, a major oil spill at a BP offshore drilling rig in the Gulf of Mexico. The spill is causing extensive environmental damages and economic losses estimated in the billions of dollars. As a result, some proponents of "Drill, baby, drill" became embarrassed about their previous support. The slogan was parodied as "Spill, baby, spill". Two senior Republican Senators, Jon Kyl and Pat Roberts, made comments attempting to distance themselves and the Republican Party from the slogan. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drill,_baby,_drill moreResolved Question: I need some ideas for History??

During the rally, activists chanted the labor and civil rights slogan “Si Se Puede,” which Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign echoed with “Yes We Can.” President Obama addressed the crowds in a taped message displayed on large video screens flanking the main stage. He reaffirmed a commitment to fixing the “broken immigration system,” Was Obama pandering to the illegals? moreResolved Question: Has the anti-Christian bias in our society reached absurd proportions?
Consider: 1. During the 1988 election campaign, George Bush said that Christians should not be considered patriots or real American citizens. 2. Bill Clinton steadfastly refused to give any speeches at local churches. 3. Both major political parties are dominated by anti-Christians. The Republican party, for example, gave us such hard-core atheists as Pat Buchanan, Dan Quayle, Phyllis Schlafly and Ronald Reagan. And the Democrats have given us such personalities as the Rev. Martin Luther King and the Rev. Jesse Jackson-- both noted for their vicious attacks on all forms of Christianity. 4. Let's talk about the media. On Sunday mornings, nearly all major television channels broadcast pro-atheist shows; it is nearly impossible to find religious programming during that time period. Further, Madalyn Murray O'Hair has her own cable TV channel, while Pat Robertson has been unable to obtain one for himself. 5. Most major newspapers run a special weekly section devoted to atheism. There are no equivalent sections for religious news. 6. Anti-Christian shows such as the American Atheist Forum are broadcast by major national networks. Meanwhile, Billy Graham is only able to get on the air through public access TV, which is watched by few people. 7. On news programs and "reality" TV shows such as Rescue 911, nobody is ever shown giving thanks to God after surviving a disaster. 8. It is almost impossible to find a shopping mall with a Christian Armory book store, while Atheist Book Centers are featured prominently on every corner. 9. While atheists couples who marry rarely have any difficulty finding a place to do so, it is nearly impossible for Christian couples to find a church where they can marry. 10. For that matter, churches themselves are extremely rare, while atheist meeting centers can be found every few blocks. 11. Jurors must take an oath upon a copy of the Skeptical Inquirer before they can serve. There have even been court cases thrown out because one of the jury members was a Christian who insisted on swearing on a Bible. 12. Christians often find it nearly impossible to get time off work for religious holidays such as Christmas. 13. Even our language reflects the radical anti-Christian bias that pervades our society. For example, when somebody sneezes, most people say "Darwin bless you". Similarly, "Voltaire dammit!" is a common cussword. 14. All of our money has the atheistic slogan "We do not trust in God" printed on it. 15. In school, our children are made to recite the pledge, "One nation, anti-God, indivisible...." 16. One cannot rent a hotel room without finding a copy of Nietzsche's The Anti-Christ in the room. 17. Organizations such as the Boy Scouts deny membership to Christians. 18. In the military, it is nearly impossible to obtain Conscientious Objector status for religious reasons, even though those with philosophical reasons can obtain C.O. status relatively easily. 19. Christian churches are forced to pay exorbitant taxes. 20. You can't drive anywhere without seeing a Darwin fish or a "Jesus Was A Fraud" bumper sticker stuck to a car. 21. Georgia recently passed a new law requiring schools to have a "moment of noise" during which children are encouraged to degrade Christianity. 22. College campuses usually have dozens of atheist organizations, but few if any for Christians. 23. Many Christians are afraid to admit their Christianity to their parents and friends, for fear their kin will consider them immoral Christian scum and want nothing to do with them. 24. At presidential inauguration ceremonies, Madalyn Murray-O'Hair (that well-known friend of several presidents) gives a short pro-atheism speech. 25. For decades, high school and college commencement ceremonies have included brief speeches at the beginning and end of the ceremony in which atheism is praised and Christians deemed irrational. Christians who object to the practice, or who ask for an opening prayer instead, are regarded as cranks at best and subversives at worst. 26. "There are no Christians in foxholes" is a popular slogan in our society. 27. Communities set up atheist brainwashing facilities, and apply social pressure to citizens to report to these facilities every Sunday morning. Furthermore, attendees are expected to contribute money to support these facilities, and to build others through "outreach" programs. 28. At baseball games, you can often spot people carrying signs that read "Origin Of Species, page 34". 29. Businesses often refuse to admit that they are Christian owned and operated, for fear of being boycotted by their atheist customers. Meanwhile, atheist-owned businesses often feature Darwin-fish logos in their ads. 30. Atheists have often invented "deathbed deconversion" stories about famous Christians, claiming they became atheists just before they died.31. Insurance companies refer to natural disasters as "Acts of Darwin". 32. Forms for job applications, government aid and so forth often ask what type of atheist you are, with checkboxes for "atheist", "agnostic", "humanist" and so forth. If you are a Christian, the only thing you can do is check the "other" box-- if one is provided. 33. Sports teams often read from the Humanist Manifesto prior to the game, in the hopes that doing so will increase their chances of winning. 39. Most people assume everyone else is an Atheist and are unbelievers as they are. It makes for uncomfortable social situations for Christians and other religious types. moreResolved Question: If this "outrage" is not about the Healthcare Bill - what is it about?
I think it is about THIS: In fact, the current surge of anger — and the accompanying rise in right-wing extremism — predates the entire health care debate. The first signs were the shrieks of “traitor” and “off with his head” at Palin rallies as Obama’s election became more likely in October 2008. Those passions have spiraled ever since — from Gov. Rick Perry’s kowtowing to secessionists at a Tea Party rally in Texas to the gratuitous brandishing of assault weapons at Obama health care rallies last summer to “You lie!” piercing the president’s address to Congress last fall like an ominous shot. If Obama’s first legislative priority had been immigration or financial reform or climate change, we would have seen the same trajectory. The conjunction of a black president and a female speaker of the House — topped off by a wise Latina on the Supreme Court and a powerful gay Congressional committee chairman — would sow fears of disenfranchisement among a dwindling and threatened minority in the country no matter what policies were in play. It’s not happenstance that Frank, Lewis and Cleaver — none of them major Democratic players in the health care push — received a major share of last weekend’s abuse. When you hear demonstrators chant the slogan “Take our country back!,” these are the people they want to take the country back from. They can’t. Demographics are avatars of a change bigger than any bill contemplated by Obama or Congress. The week before the health care vote, The Times reported that births to Asian, black and Hispanic women accounted for 48 percent of all births in America in the 12 months ending in July 2008. By 2012, the next presidential election year, non-Hispanic white births will be in the minority. The Tea Party movement is virtually all white. The Republicans haven’t had a single African-American in the Senate or the House since 2003 and have had only three in total since 1935. Their anxieties about a rapidly changing America are well-grounded. If Congressional Republicans want to maintain a politburo-like homogeneity in opposition to the Democrats, that’s their right. If they want to replay the petulant Gingrich government shutdown of 1995 by boycotting hearings and, as John McCain has vowed, refusing to cooperate on any legislation, that’s their right too (and a political gift to the Democrats). But they can’t emulate the 1995 G.O.P. by remaining silent as mass hysteria, some of it encompassing armed militias, runs amok in their own precincts. We know the end of that story. And they can’t pretend that we’re talking about “isolated incidents” or a “fringe” utterly divorced from the G.O.P. A Quinnipiac poll last week found that 74 percent of Tea Party members identify themselves as Republicans or Republican-leaning independents, while only 16 percent are aligned with Democrats. After the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed, some responsible leaders in both parties spoke out to try to put a lid on the resistance and violence. The arch-segregationist Russell of Georgia, concerned about what might happen in his own backyard, declared flatly that the law is “now on the books.” Yet no Republican or conservative leader of stature has taken on Palin, Perry, Boehner or any of the others who have been stoking these fires for a good 17 months now. Last week McCain even endorsed Palin’s “reload” rhetoric. Are these politicians so frightened of offending anyone in the Tea Party-Glenn Beck base that they would rather fall silent than call out its extremist elements and their enablers? Seemingly so, and if G.O.P. leaders of all stripes, from Romney to Mitch McConnell to Olympia Snowe to Lindsey Graham, are afraid of these forces, that’s the strongest possible indicator that the rest of us have reason to fear them too. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/28/opinion/28rich.html?scp=2&sq=Frank%20Rich&st=cse What do you think? To Les: I want to post an excerpt from your response: "Right wing politicians who use sound judgment and compromise are considered too liberal and labeled as RINOs for working with their fellow politicians. Any form of pragmatism or compromise is considered an affront to the right wing ideology and is the subject for violent action." That thud I just heard was you hitting the nail on the head. John McCain's staunch opposition to gay marriage was one of the key parts of his presidential campaign. But it has become clear this was not supported in his own household. His daughter, Meghan, is a vocal advocate of gay rights. Now his wife, Cindy, has appeared in a poster campaign against California's proposition 8 – a law banning same-sex marriage. The move has shocked and delighted gay rights campaigners and led to questions about the state of the McCains' own marriage. Cindy McCain appears in the poster with silver duct tape across her mouth and the campaign slogan, "NOH8", marked on her cheek. "Aligning yourself with the platform of gay marriage as a Republican still tends to be very stigmatic, but Cindy McCain wanted to participate in the campaign to show people that party doesn't matter." http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/blog/2010/jan/21/cindy-mccain-noh8-gay-marriage THAT WOMAN IS RUINING REPUBLICANS! You don't f*cking know, and neither do I. You can't be an Atheist or a Christian because it's impossible to be 100% sure whether or not there's a guy in the sky. You don't know what's going to happen tomorrow, so stop calling yourself a weather forecaster. You don't know if the Mets are indeed better than the Yankees, so stop taking sides and giving the as*holes all your money that you worked your a*s off at Home Depot for. History teachers, there's no way you can tell if everything you're teaching is just something that is entirely fictional and never actually happened, maybe the French Revolution never happened after all and the first democratic French constitution is merely a figment of your imagination. Tyra Banks, how the f*ck do you know if red mascara instead of the blue is what's going to get the ladies noticed. How do Americans know that terrorists are fanatics instead of coming here to the Middle East and realizing that most of them are 20-something coke snorters who couldn't give two sh*ts about religion. If a presidential candidate's campaign slogan was "I don't know, but neither do you so shut up", then it would be my utmost pleasure to provide that most revolutionary man with the only vote I'm ever going to cast in my entire eccentric life. Admit you know nothing, like me, and get on with your life. moreResolved Question: Catchy Julius Caesar Slogan?

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iranian police fired warning shots in the air and beat opposition protesters in central Tehran Sunday, witnesses and opposition Web sites said. Authorities had warned of a harsh crackdown should opposition supporters hold rallies coinciding with Sunday's religious observances marking the 7th Century death in battle of one of Shiite Islam's most beloved saints. Police helicopters circled overhead and black clouds of smoke billowed into the sky over central Tehran. Witnesses said police opened fire with warning shots to try to disperse the crowds. The pro-reform Web site Rah-e-Sabz said security forces beat protesters as they chanted anti-government slogans. Police had blocked streets leading to the center of the capital to try to prevent thousands of people from joining the protest. Still, many opposition supporters managed to break the security wall. Ambulance sirens could be heard near Engelab Square, in central Tehran, where the unrest was taking place. Opposition activists have held a series of anti-government protests since the death of a dissident cleric last week. Last Sunday's death of the 87-year-old Grand Ayatollah Hossein Ali Montazeri, a sharp critic of Iran's leaders, has given a new push to opposition protests, which have endured despite a heavy security crackdown since June's disputed presidential election. Hitler/Obama Comparisons ~ "Everything must be different!" or "Alles muss anders sein!" was a slogan of the Nazi. + Obama's slogan is "Change" ~ Hitler, In fact he admired Islam more than Christianity, and he and his policies were highly respected by many of the Muslims of his day. + Obama, will side with the Muslims if it becomes necessary. ~ Hitler and his criminal gang hated the rich, the capitalists, the Jews, the Christian Churches, and "the System". + Obama hates the rich & white people. ~ The Swastika too was a socialist symbol. The two arms representing two entwined letters "S" (for "Socialist" & "Victory" (Sieg). So even Hitler's symbolism was Leftist. + Obama creates his own symbol on his plane & also put his picture on the presidential seal. ~ Hitler, Germany's Social Democratic party. + Obama, Democrat ~ The fact that so many young Germans (particular from the formerly Communist East) today still salute his name and perpetuate much of his politics is also an amazement and a deep concern to many and what can only be called the resurgence of Nazism among many young Germans at the close of the 20th century and onwards would seem to generate a continuing and pressing need to understand the Hitler phenomenon. + Young Americans admire Obama ~ Hitler, idea to take large-scale economic decision-making out of private hands and put it into those of government planning agencies. + Obama, Government Any others that you have noticed? ...or is just the Human way? I can't help but notice how dumbed-down the culture has become. Reading European news and even watching Tv shows and movies from outside the country is like night and day; it seems like so many Americans want things very simple: Who's the bad guy I should hate? Who's the good guy I should support? Don't use big words. It's like Idiocracy come to life! When an intellectual lightweight like Sarah Palin can be considered by many as a viable Presidential choice it's gotten really bad. I've talked to many Health Reform opponents and not one of them could tell me what the phrase actually meant, other than 'Death Panels' and communism, and yes I'm looking at YOU, Republicans, because they're definitely the dumber group *right now* (that could change tomorrow). Nobody wants to talk things through, just shout slogans, primarily because they don't actually know the issues and are content to let crooked politicians (on both sides) decide their future.
