Resolved Question: i need this shortened?

Bud Light takes advantage of their name and witty reputation to relate to society with incorporation of sex appeal and humor accordingly to make their wide demographic of men understand the pleasure in drinking their beer. All the rhetorical appeals are demonstrated in this short commercial and almost all the strategies of development are used to persuade the audience to drink Bud Light. Their commercials have always been renown for their sense of humor and millions look forward to them during the annual Super Bowl because of their infamous history. They preach that their beer is reliable but they show their advertisements are too, same as the beer, they never let you down. As you watch the Bud Light commercial you can see many different appeals being utilized and they are all supported by various rhetorical strategies. Pathos, Logos, and Ethos are all in this commercial to better persuade the audience. These rhetorical appeals are very helpful to the vendor. First, pathos dominates the ad, it relates to our emotion in a few different ways. It interrelates humor and sex appeal. In this case, humor is the main effect of pathos that is used. Budweiser is infamous for their smart marketing as most of their ads are hilarious. In a USA Today article discussing the supremacy of Anheuser-Busch’s Super Bowl ads, Kathleen Stobie, a Silver Spring, Md., resident who is a coordinator with her county government states, "Humor gets me over anything -- not stupid humor” relating to the funny Budweiser commercials (Horovitz 6B). Description adds to those affects. A description that makes an impact on persuading the audience was the tone in which the wife said she had Bud Light. It was complimenting the beer very well. It was a short phrase but told a lot about the product. It obviously is good because they way she said she has “cold Bud Light” was very seductive and emphasized the pleasure of the beer. This is an example of sex appeal and humor being used together. The sexy wife in lingerie using Bud Light as her bribe. Things such as candles, women wearing lingerie, and satin sheets are usually used for sex appeal in ads but in this case they contribute more to the humor than anything else. This is evident in the focal point when the husband slides across the sheets and out the window. Also, the analogy of the elephant sound playing as the man is running upstairs shows that he was acting wild and animalistic, this relates to our feelings of lust. Finally the compare and contrast strategy is brilliant. Sex vs. beer and the beer wins, this is a good strategy to use, especially since men are the main clients for beer companies, it helps relate to the demographic. Cultural resonance plays a big part in the pathos aspect. The well known symbols appear of Bud Light when it shows the infamous bottle cap. Also, in our society the male is usually willing to have sex at any opportunity he gets, when he doesn’t, especially in a common place such as a bedroom with an accepted person, his wife, our society thinks that is a bit odd and perhaps shocked that he chose something else over a very pleasurable act. This makes that something, in this case Bud Light, stand out a lot more and tells us that it is a remarkable product. Second, logos is used too. Referring back to cultural resonance, we are shocked at the man’s decision. This shock makes us think that logically there is no choice but to think that the product is astounding to beat sex. It uses logos to make the audience think more about the product and its luxuries that we might not have thought about before. It is common sense, anything that makes someone get up that instantaneously must be pretty darn good. The ad uses example and illustration to help demonstrate logos. It shows how the product impacts a person’s life. It uses the story to exemplify how amazing the beer tastes, it wins over sex, and that must be good for a guy to choose that over sex. The product makes an impact if just its name gets a guy to react that quickly to it. Cause and effect relates to this as well. If you drink Bud Light then you will have an amazing experience and you will have never tasted anything so excellent. Finally, ethos is used. Mainly because Bud Light in general is a very well known product. Anheuser-Busch, the speaker, is as reliable as their products. This past year it won for a record ninth-consecutive year with their funny crab commercial, USA Today’s exclusive Ad Meter real-time consumer focus group ranking of Super Bowl commercials (Horovitz 6B). Bud Light maintains great credibility with how popular they are and people keep coming back to buy it. Their descriptive, well known slogan was at the end of the commercial, “The great taste that won’t fill you up and never let you down, make it a Bud Light”. This alone is classification of their beer, it is obviously better than the rest. Although their other main form of ethos, the bull frogs, weren’t used in this ad, it was sthis is not an essay its suppose to only be 100-200 words but it ended up longeri need it to be shortened for me please more

Pop Art It is a new artistic concept, is the essence of an extensive cultural movement of the sixties. It has a connection with the state of mind of a period that is the answer to the media slogans whose histories made history and whose models influence in the people. The popular culture and the way of life are associated with the sixties. This cultural demonstration was purely western: the USA was the center of this program. The pop art artistically analyzes the fact that the World has been growing by the capitalist and technological conditions of the industrial society. The beginnings of the Pop Art were in New York and in England. The political and economic stabilization in the postwar period led to a “reassessment” of something that in general is designed as popular. Psychologists studied the societal consumption and created a marketing system to take a commercial advantage of the customers’ wishes. Thus, getting closer to the consumers and buyers, creating products for costumer demand and media campaigns. This affected individual behaviors and in the interpersonal relationships. Everyone could adore collecting knickknacks, reading comics, eating hot-dogs, drinking Coca-Cola, etc. Pop Art is based on this. The themes of Pop Art are based in everyday life. Pop Art captures the realities of a period and the cultural change, the predisposition of a new generation, and this culture transforms into the style and the art. People felt free to express themselves in this Cultural Revolution. This led to new fads and forms of expression. It is almost ridiculous that artists, critics and educators allow themselves to be surrounded bye the trivial culture and crammed their houses with popular and nostalgic art, relics, and publicity symbols, playing with banality and enjoyed reading comics, science fiction literature, cheap novels and TV mania. The music and the lyrics of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones translated the state of mind, the euphoria, the nerve, the power and the realities of the young people of the sixties. That’s why artists like Peter Blake, Richard Hamilton and Andy Warhol designed disc jackets for musical groups like The Beatles and Velvet Underground of course using the Pop Art style. Pop Art is expressed through painting, sculpture, music, cinema, photography and literature. Pop Art paintings have many styles, for example some of them are based on comics, other are made of a combination of collage and painting. Some of them are made at different levels. Most of the sculptures are based in things that we normally see, like typewriters, cigarettes, clothing, toilets, or even tables. My conclusion is that Pop art is an every day item that is drawn in a brash and colorful way. It is inspired by comic strips, advertising, and popular entertainment. I like this kind of arte because I think that is an art that don’t follow all the rules and we can see the reality of our world. i am mexican so i am just learning english thank you more

Resolved Question: Do you like l ads shown during the superbowl?

I like them here's a sneak peak of some: Take a look at some of the commercials that might air during Sunday's game. Pepsi: PepsiCo. will be the second-biggest advertiser during the Super Bowl with seven ads for the company's soda and snacks. The cola will be spreading its new slogan, "Refresh Everything," which resembles the logo President Barack Obama used during his campaign. One of the ads will feature singer Will.i.am. The company will also go 3-dimensional in one of its commercials. In a 3-D ad for SoBe Lifewater, the drink's popular lizards will appear alongside NFL stars and characters from the movie "Monsters vs. Aliens." The ad will reportedly feature the characters performing an interpretation of the ballet Swan Lake. Coke: Coke might have wrapped up the luckiest Super Bowl ad. One of the cola company's ads coincidentally features Pittsburgh Steelers player Troy Polamalu in a commercial for Coke Zero. While Coke hasn't released details of the ad featuring Polamalu, it is expected to be related to the 1979 Coke ad featuring the Steelers' Mean Joe Greene. Coke will also air two other ads in the second half. One will show insects trying to steal a bottle of Coke from a man sleeping in a park, and the other shows people turning into computer avatars. Doritos: Doritos will once again be featuring amateurs in its Super Bowl ad. The Frito-Lay brand received 1,900 videos from film makers all hoping to have theirs aired during the Super Bowl. The company picked five finalists: "Power of the Crunch," "Too Delicious," "The Chase," "New Flavor Pitch" and "Free Doritos." The videos are posted on CrashTheSuperBowl.com, where viewers can vote for their favorite. The winning video will be played during the game. Hyundai: Hyundai bought two Super Bowl slots. The company reportedly has four ads and its is trying to decide which two to air during the game. Among the finalists are one commercial featuring race driver Rhys Millen and one with cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Bridgestone: Bridgestone, which is also sponsoring the Super Bowl half-time show featuring Bruce Springsteen, will try to connect with viewers who are choosing to fix up their current cars rather than buy new ones this year. One of Bridgestone's commercials is said to feature Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head. P.S-Go STEELERS!POLL:Spaghetti or Meatloaf more

Voting Question: Why is this article a TOS violation? ?

Around the world, atheists hit road to knock down God by Prashant Rao Prashant Rao – Mon Jan 19, 1:07 am ET AFP/File – An artists impression of a London bus with the slogan 'There's probably no God. Stop worrying … LONDON (AFP) – An atheist drive to persuade people that God doesn't exist is catching on in a surprising fashion -- on the sides of buses in a growing number of countries around the world. With the concise message "There's probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life," the campaign took to the road in Britain this month, while similar drives are underway or planned in Spain, Italy, Canada and Australia. The British campaign was originally floated by comedy writer Ariane Sherine in a newspaper column in June, and is hoping to reach the majority of the country's population in some fashion or another over the next three weeks. "We could never have imagined it would have gotten this big, and we would have raised quite this amount of cash," campaign co-founder Jon Worth, a political blogger and website designer, told AFP. "It's astounding." Sherine wrote her column after advertisements began appearing on central London buses directing passers-by to a website that told those who did not accept Christianity that they would suffer for eternity in hell. Soon after it was published, Worth contacted her asking if he could set up a pledgebank based on her idea, and shortly thereafter, the Atheist Bus Campaign began taking donations, initially hoping to raise 5,500 pounds (6,200 euros, 8,200 dollars). To date, it has raised upwards of 140,000 pounds, enough to pay for advertisements on 800 buses across Britain -- 200 in central London alone -- along with 1,000 posters in London's Underground trains and two video screens in a popular Tube station, all for a full month ending in early February. Unsurprisingly, the campaign has struck a nerve among God-fearing commuters, prompting around 200 complaints to Britain's Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), which regulates commercials here. By way of comparison, the most complaints the ASA has ever received over an advert was 1,600. The watchdog needs just one complaint to investigate an advertisement, which are judged on a variety of factors including harm, offence, taste and deceny as well as factual accuracy, but will wait until next week to decide whether or not to probe the Atheist Bus Campaign's ads. "A few religious people have complained to the ASA, which seems rather odd, as if they (the ASA) will be able to make a judgment about the evidence on that sort of issue," said Peter Cave, chair of the Humanist Philosopher's Group, which advises the British Humanist Association. Along with opposition in Britain, attempts to engineer a similar campaign in Australia have run into obstacles, with the country's biggest outdoor advertising agency APN Outdoor deciding to reject a bid by the Atheist Foundation of Australia for ad space. "Any company really has the right to refuse a service to a customer, but in this instance, you have to wonder," foundation president David Nicholls told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Atheists in Italy and Spain, however, have had more success with their attempts. Buses with a similar slogan to the Atheist Bus Campaign's message, translated into Catalan, began appearing on two routes in Barcelona on Monday, with plans to extend the campaign to the rest of the country. In Italy, meanwhile, buses with the slogan "The bad news is that God does not exist. The good news is that we do not need him" will begin traversing the northern Italian city of Genoa on February 4. Here in Britain, apart from opposition from religious groups, some atheists are unhappy with the inclusion of the word "probably", principally added so that it would adhere to British advertising rules. Cave, though not in agreeance with the word's inclusion, noted that the campaign is trying to make a broader point. "I can see no evidence for God just as I can see no evidence for pineapples floating around the moon," he said. "I don't say there probably aren't any pineapples floating around the moon, I just say I know there aren't any pineapples floating around the moon. But, it's a piece of marketing, and I think it's good because it makes people think." http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20090119/lf_afp/lifestylebritainreligiontransportatheism;_ylt=Aks_7U2DZt1hoo9IABQYcSU7Xs8F more

Resolved Question: Why so stupid?

We still think they best person to vote for is the most popular one because no one does the research needed to really determine what a candidate is all about. Why do we think that clever campaign slogans and commercials are all we need to decide?Grump56, I'm with you.I have a really good friend who's into politics, but has two girls, a wife and is a mechanic, so all he had to go on to vote for Rick Perry (Governor of TX) were his commercials. Perry's commercials were pretty good, pretty good lies. Unfortunately, Perry leads an administration that's so smart it didn't take out an insurance policy on the governor's mansion, which was recently burned and the subject of an arson investigation. So I get that life can be too busy, but here's the thing, that's what they want. Our government doesn't want us to have enough time to think, that way we'll elect fratboy cheerleaders like Dubya into office and be none the wiser until it's too late. It's just sad to me that honesty concerning politics only comes from the likes of people in comedic contexts like Bill Maher, Stephen Colbert and Jon Daly. Thank goodness for cable, it seems less conglomurated than broadcast. To quit rambling and sum up a lot of my views, look up some more recent editions of George Carlin's work, too bad I couldn't have met him, he wouldn't think I'm crazy when I say the fat cats run things now and they don't care about us. more

Resolved Question: Are companies just using the Go Green-fad to their advantage?

I don't want to make a negative out of a positive, but I work at a store where the environmental cause has become like a commercial slogan everywhere I look. Brands advertising that they're improving their product to be earth friendly, such as Poland Spring's gimmick of slimmer bottles to use less waste --Funny they don't advertise 2oz less water per bottle (or 48oz for a case.) Bottled-water companies also don't mention that their water is nearly equivalent to what you can get out of a tap and that your only wasting thousands of tons of plastic by buying it in the first place. Something third world countries would be enraged by such un-needed luxury. And I could go on with dozens of other products I witness abusing the title eco-friendly, --but I'd like your opinion on if companies really care for making changes or are they turning a cause into a fad by these popular movies and shows out like 11th Hour and An Inconvenient Truth (when 2 years ago they hadn't shown major concern)? more

I seems the phrase "God Bless America" became a commercial slogan for politicians, especially the President, to win popular ratings rather than patriotic symbol. What do you think? more

Resolved Question: What would Jesus do? Interesting article..?

Why do you wear a WWJD bracelet? Is it because you really want to do what Jesus would do? If so, please keep in mind that doing what Jesus would do may not produce the results you expect. Instead of being looked upon with admiration as someone who is an outstanding example of righteousness, you will, with all certainty, become a pariah and an outcast in this world, especially among your religious friends. "If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you." John 15:19 The answer to what Jesus would do will not be found by looking at a wrist reminder, but will be found in the pages of scripture and through the influence of the Holy Spirit. From the scriptures, you should be able to discern these simple facts about living life as Jesus would live. First of all, Jesus would not participate in a marketing fad that reduces the severity of God to just another trinket. Like popular 'christian' t-shirts that mimic beer slogans - "This Blood's For You" - these bracelets are surely an offense to a Holy God. If you really want to do what Jesus would do, take your WWJD bracelet off immediately and repent of falling prey to such worldly foolishness. "(He).....was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin." Hebrews 4:15 If you really want to do what Jesus would do, live a sinless life....cancel your subscription to cable TV and the filthy magazines that come into your home. It's doubtful Jesus would take much pleasure in the offerings from Hollywood so stay out of the theater and the movie rental store. Spend long hours in fasting, prayer and tears for a lost and deceived generation. Pray especially for those who claim to be Christian and yet are self-deceived and are on the road to an eternal hell. "Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?" Matthew 23:33 Speak the truth, even though the world (especially the religious world) will hate you bitterly for it. Seminaries and churches today are apostate - they ordain women, teach ungodly doctrines like evolution, tolerate and encourage homosexuality and promote fellowship with such blasphemous systems as the Roman Catholic Church. Cry out against these evils. Condemn in the strongest language anyone who transgresses the pure word of God. Be prepared to face persecution and to die for your preaching. Be sure that religious people will be responsible for your death, though they will deny that they seek to kill you. "For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God." John 12:43 Be especially hard on preachers who are men-pleasers, more concerned about public opinion than preaching God's unvarnished truth. Do not fear men, even those who appear to be something by human standards, but rather fear God. "He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day." John 12:48 The Promise Keepers and similar ecumenical organizations would have Christians believe that fellowship is more important than doctrine. Warn those who participate in this type of wickedness that God demands strict obedience to "every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God," even if you're standing alone. In fact, you will be. Stand up for the gospel, not by wearing a bracelet, but by preaching on street corners and in public. Create controversy everywhere you go by warning men of the imminent judgment of God and the necessity of repentance. "Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not." Matthew 25:41-43 Renounce the passing pleasures of this world and give your life wholly for others. Condemn so-called Christian atheletes who claim to follow Jesus and yet blaspheme his name by spending their Lord's day earning wealth and glory for themselves. Also condemn Christians who can't wait to get home from the church house to spend the day wallowing in major league filth. Staring goggle-eyed at a program full of gutter talk, half-naked women and beer commercials is definitely not something Jesus would waste his Sundays on. "And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought...." Luke 19:46 Stand in front of the local Christian bookstore and cry out against them for claiming to be "a ministry" yet peddling everything from ungodly "christian rock" to books that teach you how to better pray to Mary. Warn those shopping there of being deceived by the philosophies and vain deceits of men. (Colossians 2:8) Remind everyone you know that the final generation on earth will be as the days of Noah, when only one family was saved. False prophets, false religion and false signs and wonders will be the hallmark of these days. Of course, no one you warn will believe that they are in danger of being deceived, which will only serve to confirm that these are the days he warned us about. Instead of the biblical warnings of apostasy, people today much prefer the human teaching that we are in the midst of a "last-days revival." The Bible also reminds us that these will be days of itching ears. Go where Jesus would go. It's doubtful Jesus would spend much time huddled in a Sunday School classroom with those who look, dress and act exactly like him. Instead, he'd probably be found among the poor and downcast - those overlooked by middle class churches in the suburbs. He wouldn't be very welcome, or even recognized, by most evangelical churches, because his teachings and methods would be so opposed to their own. Jesus would surely frequent nursing homes, homeless shelters, hospitals and jails. Rich people (America's middle class) are not a very receptive market for the message "take up your cross and follow me." In the gospels, the Savior went to those who most needed to hear the message of God's redemption and forgiveness of sins. The same would be true today. "Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets." Luke 6:26 Have the kind of friends Jesus would have. Not religious leaders, popular preachers or those who write Christian bestsellers, but those who love truth so much they'd forsake everything this world counts dear to be included in God's eternal kingdom. We could go further, but this should serve to illustrate the hypocrisy of those who would ask the question "What Would Jesus Do?" as if they were willing or able to provide a correct response. So many people today imagine Jesus as the greatest do-gooder of all time. They miss the point! Jesus was GOD, wholly unlike you and me. Few mortals, it seems, have any concept of the life Jesus lived, nor are they able to translate his deeds and actions to today. Jesus was an outcast among the religious elite. He was despised, hated and murdered by them. Why can't Christians understand that the intervening 2,000 years have not served to change the makeup of the religion of man. Were Jesus alive today, the spiritual offspring of the pharisees (the religious elite of Christianity) would hate and malign Jesus just as the Jews did 20 centuries ago. If you really want to live out the answer to the question, "What Would Jesus Do?", you will become as those who were closest to him... "we are made as the filth of the world, [and are] the offscouring of all things unto this day." 1 Cor. 4:13 Rather than asking the question "What Would Jesus Do?," a better question for most people to ask themselves would be: "What Would Jesus Have ME Do?" "Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent."
