Resolved Question: why do we love mars bars so much when its the cost as gone up and as been size down?

In 2002, the UK Mars bar was reformulated and repackaged.[4] The nougat was made lighter, the chocolate on top became noticeably thinner, and the overall weight of the bar was reduced slightly. This was met with outrage from Mars purists, as in a sales pitch to local media in Slough, the change in ingredients was to follow the trend of its sister the Milky Way bar, the Double Decker and 5 Star bars. Product designers at The Mars Candy Company in the US, put this down to nostalgia over the past hugely popular Starbar which also contained the same reinvented 'light whipped nougatine.' The packaging was also redesigned with a less-bold and a more cursive logo. The famous slogan "A Mars a day helps you work, rest and play" was written by William Dagnall as a competition tie breaker in 1966 but often erroneously attributed to Murray Walker[5] This was replaced with "Pleasure you can't measure", a re-branding intended to appeal to a more feminine, youthful market.[6] Various sizes are made: miniature bars called "Fun Size" (19.7g) and "Snack Time" (36.5g) (both sold in multiple packs); a larger multi-pack size of 54g; the regular sized single 58g bar and a "king-size" (also called Adam-sized) 84g bar which has since been replaced by "Mars Duo" (91g) - a pack that contains 2 smaller bars instead of 1 large one. The regular 58 gram single bar contains 259 calories. In the second half of 2008, Mars UK reduced the size of regular bars from 62.5g to the current 58g. Although the reduction in size was not publicised at the time, Mars claimed the change was designed to help tackle the obesity crisis in the UK. The company later confirmed that the real reason for the change was triggered by rising costs.[7] [8] In the UK, most Mars bars are still made at the Slough Trading Estate. more

Resolved Question: Do you ever wonder if people are going to start calling things like Twilight and Harry Potter punk?

I mean, look at today's teens. They've been calling Fall Out Boy, brokeNCYDE, 3oh!3, Paramore, and a bunch of other popular things punk. Even things like Linkin Park and Muse sometimes get included somehow. Do you think there's the posibility that the word "punk" is going to get so out-of-order sooner or later that the rest of society is going to include other random things as punk? Hot Topic too. Their web page used to be covered by Ramones, Rancid, Dead Kennedys, Misfits, Sex Pistols, Black Flag, TSOL, and stuff and it didn't have any things like Tokio Hotel, Avenged Sevenfold, brand names, and popular non-music related things. Their slogan still says "Everything About the Music", but their page is now covered with things like Hello Kitty, Tokio Hotel, 3oh!3, Twilight, Harry Potter, Converse, and other random things. What's happening to punk nowadays?@ Ash O: I'm fine with Avenged Sevenfold and I actually do listen to them once in a while, but they're just not punk. They're now calling colorful and decorated Converse punk now, which is the problem. It's just that things are getting out of order nowadays. more

Resolved Question: On mcDonald's cups, the slogan proudly states: 30 years of happiness, but they've been open longer, right?

Considering this: McDonald’s is one of the leading restaurant chains in the world, touching the lives of people everyday. The long journey of the burger brand started in 1940, when two brothers, Dick and Mac McDonald opened the first McDonald’s restaurant in San Bernardino, California. Initially, they owned a hotdog stand, but after establishing the restaurant they served around 25 items, which were mostly barbequed. It became a popular and profitable teen hangout. In 1948, the brothers closed and reopened the restaurant to sell only hamburgers, milkshakes and French fries. As per the information of the McDonald’s history, the major revenue came from hamburgers, which were sold at a nominal price of 15 cents. The restaurant gradually became famous and the McDonald brothers begin franchising their restaurant in the year 1953. The first franchise was taken by Neil Fox and under it; the second Mc Donald’s restaurant was opened in Fresno, California. It was the first to introduce the Golden Arch design. The third and fourth restaurants were opened in Saginaw, Michigan and Downey, California, respectively. So, considering it's been around more than 50 years, why only 30 years of happiness? more

Resolved Question: What are popular brands of sunblock in Australia?

Sorry if this is a stupid question and doesn't belong in the Australia section, but the skin care section was no help at all, and I know that Aussies have to pay special attention to sun protection and I'm wondering what are the popular sunblock brands in Australia? (I've heard your slogan, "Slip, slop, slap!") I'm a fanatic about not getting sun because I don't want wrinkles, but I've yet to find a product that doesn't sting my eyes. I'm wondering if AUS has stuff that's probably better than I have available here in the US. (I went for a bike ride today and used my Neutrogena Dry Touch SPF 55, and my eyes were stinging as I perspired, and my eyes teared up, which made the stinging worse! There must be a better product I can use!) Again, sorry if this is a stupid question, but as I said, I know that sun protection is a big concern in Australia. Thanks much!! P.S. I'm also on a quest to find a non-shiny, non-greasy product, too, for my face. And by the way, I phoned Neutrogena and complained and they are sending me a $10 coupon. Just not sure I want to try another Neutrogena sunblock product (their anti-wrinkle stuff is GREAT, but sunblock, I'm not so sure). Thanks again.P.S.S. Here in the US, the SPF rating can go up to SPF 85 or even higher. But as I said, I need something that won't burn my eyes. more

Resolved Question: What do you believe the ideology of the 1980's was?

Here is what my instructor said about the 1980's I am writing a paper and need a little more insight about the ideology, (I did grow up in the 80s but I was in a small town not exposed to any of the mentality that my proffessor has stated.) "To fully understand American Psycho, one has to appreciate the social, political and economic climate in which the events of the story unfold. The setting is the 1980s – a decade marked by social conservatism that was perhaps best typified by the anti-drug slogan “Just Say No!” Politicians preached marriage and traditional family values, not to mention the purchasing value of a dollar. In fact, the mighty dollar and the competitive business practices of Wall Street were widely celebrated. “Greed is good!” became a popular saying even if junk bonds, insider trading and other Wall Street crimes left people penniless. Designer labels became popular. Wearing the right brands and owning the best products were keys to conformity and “fitting in.” Amidst all of this, Patrick Bateman struggles to survive." more

Resolved Question: Do you like l ads shown during the superbowl?

I like them here's a sneak peak of some: Take a look at some of the commercials that might air during Sunday's game. Pepsi: PepsiCo. will be the second-biggest advertiser during the Super Bowl with seven ads for the company's soda and snacks. The cola will be spreading its new slogan, "Refresh Everything," which resembles the logo President Barack Obama used during his campaign. One of the ads will feature singer Will.i.am. The company will also go 3-dimensional in one of its commercials. In a 3-D ad for SoBe Lifewater, the drink's popular lizards will appear alongside NFL stars and characters from the movie "Monsters vs. Aliens." The ad will reportedly feature the characters performing an interpretation of the ballet Swan Lake. Coke: Coke might have wrapped up the luckiest Super Bowl ad. One of the cola company's ads coincidentally features Pittsburgh Steelers player Troy Polamalu in a commercial for Coke Zero. While Coke hasn't released details of the ad featuring Polamalu, it is expected to be related to the 1979 Coke ad featuring the Steelers' Mean Joe Greene. Coke will also air two other ads in the second half. One will show insects trying to steal a bottle of Coke from a man sleeping in a park, and the other shows people turning into computer avatars. Doritos: Doritos will once again be featuring amateurs in its Super Bowl ad. The Frito-Lay brand received 1,900 videos from film makers all hoping to have theirs aired during the Super Bowl. The company picked five finalists: "Power of the Crunch," "Too Delicious," "The Chase," "New Flavor Pitch" and "Free Doritos." The videos are posted on CrashTheSuperBowl.com, where viewers can vote for their favorite. The winning video will be played during the game. Hyundai: Hyundai bought two Super Bowl slots. The company reportedly has four ads and its is trying to decide which two to air during the game. Among the finalists are one commercial featuring race driver Rhys Millen and one with cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Bridgestone: Bridgestone, which is also sponsoring the Super Bowl half-time show featuring Bruce Springsteen, will try to connect with viewers who are choosing to fix up their current cars rather than buy new ones this year. One of Bridgestone's commercials is said to feature Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head. P.S-Go STEELERS!POLL:Spaghetti or Meatloaf more

Resolved Question: Can you help me about my homework?

Use context clues to guess the meaning of the boldfaced words* and phrases. Write a definition or synonym of the words and phrases. 1.) This is the challenge of advertising, to create slogans*, or short memorable phrases, that will remind us of a particular brand. 2.) Newspaper ads can cost thousands of dollars, magazine and Web ads can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, and television commercials can run into* the millions. 3.) "Reach out and touch someone," an AT&T slogan, showed the happiness that occurs when customers telephone family and friends. These ads created a feeling of close human interaction within a giant* telecommunications company. 4.) A popular ad campaign for Alka-Seltzer, a stomach indigestion medication, featured images of people overeating*; for example, one person had eaten an entire pizza, while another had just finished a huge dinner. 5.) Critics of advertising point out* that audiences are subjected to millions of ads pushing them to buy, buy, buy. more

Resolved Question: Are companies just using the Go Green-fad to their advantage?

I don't want to make a negative out of a positive, but I work at a store where the environmental cause has become like a commercial slogan everywhere I look. Brands advertising that they're improving their product to be earth friendly, such as Poland Spring's gimmick of slimmer bottles to use less waste --Funny they don't advertise 2oz less water per bottle (or 48oz for a case.) Bottled-water companies also don't mention that their water is nearly equivalent to what you can get out of a tap and that your only wasting thousands of tons of plastic by buying it in the first place. Something third world countries would be enraged by such un-needed luxury. And I could go on with dozens of other products I witness abusing the title eco-friendly, --but I'd like your opinion on if companies really care for making changes or are they turning a cause into a fad by these popular movies and shows out like 11th Hour and An Inconvenient Truth (when 2 years ago they hadn't shown major concern)? more

Resolved Question: Obama's plagiarism of Deval Patricks Speech.. Your thoughts?? Beneficial or Harmful?

I saw the tapes of Obabma using parts of MA Govenor Patrick Devals speech verbatim TWICE. I live in MA and experienced Devals speeches. "Together we can" was his slogan. Together we can what? He hasn't accomplished one positive thing since he has been in office for over a year. The only thing he is popular for: 1.) After soliciting the Union support for his campaign, he had his innaguration ball at a hotel facility that doesnt employ union labor. 2.) He purchased a brand new Cadillac as his car instead of re-using one of the previous state owned vehicles 3.) Immediately after moving into his new office he purchased drapes for $11K. We heard the same exact things that Obama is promising us a little over a year ago - nothing has changed. Money has not been saved, taxes have not gone down, no new bills passed etc. My question is, how do you think Obama using Devals speech will impact the election? Will it hurt him in the long run, now that he has been found out?Ok, meanwhile... Some of you people think as soon as someone writes a question for conversation it is a smear. NEWSFLASH: I have no opinion on who I would like to have as a president - Democrat or Republican. Im not trying to smear anything - I am basically putting facts on YA for feedback and opinion. Wow, I figured maybe people could have a conversation based on THIS topic instead of turning it into an anger fueled political soap box. more

Resolved Question: Need help on essay for school!!?

The essay is about Home Depot and Lowe's Website which is what we have to write about... What I need is substantial content issues, please give me feedback and explain what the writer says or fails to say... What is your response to this essay? Best answer gets 10 points!!! Thanks guys.... The company websites I chose to go with were Home Depot and Lowe's. I chose them because they are very closely related, and big competition to each other. Home Depot and Lowe's are very similar stores. They are both stores for home improvement, and carry a lot of the same items. They carry some of the same brands, along with those who are store exclusive to each company. Home Depot's slogan on the website is “You can do it. We can help.”, while Lowe's slogan is “Let's build something together.” Home Depot has more of a slogan that is telling the consumer that they supply items for you to do the work yourself. Lowe's has just the combined, possibly telling the consumer that they can help you do what you need. Lowe's also includes “Improving Home Improvement” on the title of their website. The Home Depot website is categorized more by the actual item, whereas the Lowe's website is categorized more by location of the project and type of item. The Lowe's website has their categories with a few sub categories on the home page (possibly the most visited and/or most popular), and the Home Depot website just lists out the the product categories. The websites of both companies are shopping websites where you can actually buy products through the internet. Home Depot's front page starts off with the listed categories, discounts that are currently going on, in-store events and promotions and seasonal items. Lowe's front page starts off with home improvement ideas, how to guides, buying guides, design tips, and similar other things. They both take different approaches at sales. The Home Depot website is more about buying, and it seems like the assumption that you know what you need, or at least where you want to look. Although, the Home Depot website does offer various help tips and guides, it does not include as many, and does not seem to be a very big advertisement characteristic of their website. The Lowe's website seems like it wants to offer you help on your project. It offers you a lot on tips and help, which can be better for those who are not exactly sure what they want, or how to do. This actually kind of goes back with their slogans, with the one being more we have what you need for your project, and then the other saying that we can help you with your home improvement projects. They both offer a lot of visual images on their websites. The Lowe's website offers more pictures of the actual products in real situations, whereas the Home Depot website has more of just the product with no extra props or anything. Another thing, they both offer customer service of their websites. The Home Depot website seems to have more information about everything at the bottom of the pages. Lowe's has some, but not like Home Depot with shipping information, privacy, security information, etc. That is the information I have gathered for my essay so far. more
