Open Question: Are there any universities in the UK which allow you to combine two courses that aren't usually combined?

...or that perhaps allow you to request to do two (completly different) courses? I'm really interested in majoring in Film production (or film studies) and Physiotherapy. I know they are completely different but I was wondering if a university would perhaps allow you to do both... I know they have fixed combined courses such as "Marketing and Film Studies", but are you allowed to request doing two very different courses? I hope I'm not sounding stupid, but I really can't imagine doing one without the other... I feel as though Film isn't a safe option, but Physiotherapy is somewhat safe, and fixed. I've also been considering doing Advertising and Film Studies but not many universities offer it. If it matters, I have pretty good marks (A's, B's, and rarely C's) Thanks more

Open Question: How can I sell my land?

I have gone down the same route as many people who want to invest money and bought land in Bulgaria. The plot was un-regulated when I bought it. It now has planning to build 5 up market villas on it. It is all above board and have all the legal paperwork which has been checked by laywers to prove its all good. Thing is I have now droppd the price of the plot 3 times and over 3 years there has been no interest. The plot is at the foot of the Balken mountains in a place called Kosharitsa 5 minute drive to Sunny Beach, Black Sea Coast. It is 1488m2 and is for sale for £75,888EUR (equivalent). 51 EUR sqm. It ticks all the right boxes but no one is viewing it. I have advertised it on numerous websites, forums and contacted development companies the world over. Its got to the point now where I don't care bout massive returns and I just want my money back as now I have a better idea of where to put the money. Can anyone help or advise me on what I can do next?!!!! Thanks. more

Voting Question: Classes for those with Special Needs?

I’m looking at starting a company offering classes for those with special needs throughout the UK and was wondering if anyone knew anyone who offers such classes, no matter what subject. I am doing some market research to see if they would be willing to pay £25-£40 a month for someone to book sessions, keep track of calendars, chase payments, answer telephone calls, respond to emails and postal duties. They would also get a page on the company website, business cards and advertising and marketing. It’s a long shot but I thought it would be worth a try. Thank youI know someone who does this full time and I wasn't very clear in my question sorry, it will mainly be aimed at schools, not parents, though parents would be welcome as well. more

Resolved Question: could someone with good english please cheack this for me ?

Hi Aer Lingus Despite my earlier email,.and your failure to reply . I however passed on your banner headline to " Tell a friend " , to lots of friends who l were equally , dismayed at the fact the TOTAL PRICE suddenly changed at the end of the book in to be nothing like the original quote , ie , when booking for two adults and a child ( 50% ) off ofer , the Total price seemed to ignore the fact that there were 3 persons ,travilling , and also the fact the the childs fare was more than the adult fare . Your site is at least very misleading , at most Ryanairsh . As I had promised the quoted the price to friends , I stood my ground and took the loss , but but appericate an explenation , of what I find is underhanded advertising , via email type promotions .As you fly the flag of what was once an airline, I would have being proud to say, I was from the country of origin , I feel very dissapointed ,in the fact your quailty of sAttach files more easilyervice, has gone so down market , on what I see as the future of marketing , the Internet . As I said before I booked the flights anyway , but please reasure me that in future you may look into what I and friends find totally misleading in your " TOTAL PRCE " box ,on the you book cheap fares site . Looking foward to a reply . Your Sincerly more

Resolved Question: Government investments in the UK?

Hi all, I have built a website for a new business model which I feel can be very successful, I used my savings to have the site developed and register the company. After spending money on development and corrections to the site to complete it I am almost down to zero to market and give this business the launch it really deserves. Its an extraordinary idea, I just completed a beta trial with real good results. I know the government advertise technology investment funds but how does this work, whats the likely hood of getting this and how long does it take? I have considered private investors but can't find many that will invest in a startup Many Thanks in advance, Eric more

Voting Question: CV advice! Need awesome people to help me please? Retail.?

Hey, I graduated last year with an excellent Film and Television with Professional and Creative Writing degree. Obviously the job market has been ultra poor, so i've done some temp admin jobs and youth work volunteering to keep me doing something constructive. I walked round town tonight and saw a few retail places advertising for sales assistants. I would be so happy to work anywhere right now and these jobs seem cool. MY PROBLEM is my CV. I have had at least three years of retail experience many years before uni and done temporary roles here and there throughout studying, but seriously how should I present my CV for a retail job? I don't want people to look at it and think that i'm not serious about the role, especially when they see my degree. I'm a really creative person that just wants a nice friendly job, my degree kind of helps with my hobby which is writing. Any advice would be most welcomed as I'm writing a new CV tonight. Oh yes and i'm 26 so fairly 'mature'ish :-D more

Resolved Question: Why? Brazil is like any country?

Words of writer from Holand. All places have your positive points and negatives, but in outside they maximize the positive points. However in Brazil they maximize the negative points. Here in Holand, the results of election take far time, because don´t have nothing automated. Have only one telephony company and: if you call complaining about service , your telephone can be temporarily disconected. In United States and Europe, nobody have habit of rolling the sandwich in a napkin, or wash the hands before eat. In bakeries, fairs and butchers of Europe, the attendants receive the money and with same dirty hand give bread or meat. In London, there is a famous place that sell fried potato wrapped in newspaper-and have many people in door. In Europe, no-smoking are minority. If you ask for no-smoking table, the waiter laughs in your face, because not exists. They smoking until in elevator. In Paris, the waiters are know for your bad humor and grossness and any waiter of pub of Brazil can go there to give class of "How to conquer a costumer". You know how the great potencies make to destroy one people?Impose their beliefs and culture. If you stop to observe, in all movie of USA the national flag appears, and and usually the time when we are emotional... The brazilian people have a language, that despite not resemble the Portuguese language, is called of portuguese language, while the enterprises of software called it of brazilian portuguese, because they can not comunicate with your brazilians users across of Portuguese language. The data bellow are of Antropos Consuting: 1-Brazil is the country that has most success in AIDS combat and of another diseases sexually transmitted, and has been world example. 2- Brazil is the only country of south hemisphere that be participating of Genome Project. 3- In a search involving 50 cities several countries, the city of Rio de Janeiro has been considered the most solidary. 4- In elections of 2000, the system of Regional Electoral Court has been informatized in all regions of Brazil, with results in less of 24 hours after the begin of counting of votes. The model called the attention of one of biggest World potencies: the United States, where the counting of votes has that be redone many times, delaying the result and puting the credibility of process in doubt. 5- Same being a country in development, the brazilians users represent one slice of 40 percent of market in Latin America. 6-In Brazil, there are 14 plants of vehicles installed and others 4 being installing, while some neigbours countries don´t have. 7- Of the childrens between 7 and 14 years-old, 97,3% are studing. 8- The market of cellphones of Brazil is the second of the World, with 650.000 new habilitations each month. 9-In fixed telephony the country ranked fifth in number of lines installed. 10- Of the brazilian enterprises, 6890 have the quality certified ISO - 9000, most number among the countries in development. In Mexico, are just 300 enterprises and 265 in Argentina. 11-The Brazil is the second biggest market of jets and helicopters executives. Why you don´t say about : 1- The book market in Brazil is biggest that of the Italy, with most of 50.000 new titles each year? 2- That Brazil have the most modern bank system of the planet? 3-That your Advertising Agencies win the better World awards? 4- Why don´t say that the Brazil is the country most enterprising of the World and that most of 70% of the brazilians ,poor and rich, devote a considerable portion of their time in volunteer work? 5- Why you don´t say that Brazil is today the third biggest democracy of the World? 6- That despite all the corruption, the congress be punishing your own members, what rarely happen in another countries who claim "CIVILIZATED"? So, Stop say bad of my country, because all places have your positives and negatives points! This is like envyhahahaha! I doubt "Good Guy". Resolved Question: Where can I sell my handmade objects, paintings and also old things that I know no longer want?

I've tried Etsy for handmade goods but I got fed up with that for various reasons (fees, ease of use, too time consuming, market is too saturated etc), I've tried Ebay but I want, dare I say it, somewhere more 'sophisticated' to sell my delicate charms and paintings. Also, craigslist just seems like a large advertising site, so again, not somewhere as 'professional' as I would like. So, any ideas? Voting Question: Offshore banking and Web hosting for UK company - Intelligent contributions only please?

I run a few businesses in the UK, however one of my companies sources and wholesales 'grey market' designerware and footwear from manufacterers mainly in China and Italy to clients across Europe. I run and advertise this business completley online, even though the distribution of grey market products is legal under EU law. I still receive legal threats from brand companies even though the products were manufactered under licence, under my agreements with my suppliers I can not disclose the origin of the goods to brand companies to prove authenticity. Any advice on making this a completely anonymous operation through using an offshore bank account and web hosting. I in no way plan on evading UK taxes however I do not wish to be harrassed by large companies even though I tell them to shove it anyway. Intelligent advice only please, comments are greatly apreciated. more

Resolved Question: I want to trade currencies on the Forex market..what aremybest options for educating myself ?

I want to trade currencies, and I want to go for tiny deals each time, and profit from the volatile nature of the Forex market, but reduce my risk by having a very tight risk management system that always protects my bank, I am looking to make tiny profits, on the fluctuations on a daily basis, but over and over again,I am looking for the best advice in terms of getting educated and started... I have ALREADY been dummy trading on bullbearings, this is not what I am looking for, nor do I want to join an expensive course which I could find advertised anywhere, and which I do not know if I can trust. Essentially I want to learn the necessary, to make the very small gains I am initially looking to make ,but on EACH trade, and from there I would like to ramp up. Your advice would be appreciated. also your experiences...Ithink it is possible to educate yourself to a level where one canmake small gains , with minimal risk, as long as the risk is understood and there is a risk management stratergy which protects your bank. I am not in a hurry, and I am not trying to get rich quick, but one day say in 5 to 10 years time I would like to be competent enough to trade with positive results. I do not believe this to be a dream which only a certain few people can ever hope to recognise. Education has enabled people to achieve far more spectacular feats than this in the past. I am looking for advice on education, not advice on if you think this is a good idea, the proof of the idea is already in the markets to be seen everyday. more

Resolved Question: UK: Should we buy goods from "celebrity" endorsed products.?

For some time now I have become very cynical of C I P. It seems we must buy whatever they are pushing just because a "Celebrity" is fronting the advertising./marketing. Then Id wondered if the Celebs actually used said endorsed products. It transpired not. il give you a few examples. Quite a few years ago a famous fast food company used a red and white clown to advertise its "meat products" yet he was allegedly a vegetarian. And I think, a British model once linked to the actor Richard Gere was said to use a face pack/moisturiser using honey and rock salt or something similar yet endorsed really expensive cosmetics, Then there is the footballers now wife advertising a "green" budget-supermarket - does she shop there with her millions ? what about the young cocky chef singing the praises of local butchers yet is now " the face of" A well known "orange" supermarket - which brings me on to a recent M&S "veteran model" caught shopping in the same "orange" supermarket - a rival. and finally a comedian with the initials AG once advertising "Identity theft" precautions warnings. Yet Journalists managed to rummage through his rubbish and find complete bank statements bills etc etc all un-shreded - completely at odds with the advert he was fronting. In this case why should we believe what Celebrities advertise. It sounds like they "take the shilling" but that's about it. Its all a farce. more

Resolved Question: Is this a good discription I've written?

I've designing a postcard to advertise my new web design agency. On the postcard I have space for a short 100 word description and I would like your opinion on the one I've written if that's okay. Here it is: Our Agency is the perfect choice for your web design needs. Whether it's a small personal photo gallery or a large fully featured ecommerce store you can be sure we will approach all aspects of your brief with an aim to exceeds your expectations. We're here to make sure the websites of Surrey are the best there is. It's a little known fact that a well designed website goes a long way towards establishing a market authority status with your customers. We will help you to make this happen with a beautifully designed website that's sure to grab your customers attention. Thanks for reading it. If you could give me your feedback that would be great. Also, if you think you could improve it or even do a better job, please could you write your version in your answer. Thank you.Thank you for answering so quickly ladies! In the final description I have the company name instead of 'our agency' at the begriming. I omitted it from my question because I didn't want to be seen as advertising on Y!A. I've added an apostrophe to the 'customer's' like one of you said. Grammar and punctuation are my biggest faults, I never get anything 100% right. Thanks so much for the feedback, I really do appreciate it more

Resolved Question: Living in the UK: How do I market myself to schools for teaching jobs if I'm not a EU/UK citizen?

I've been living in the UK for almost five years. There is a lot of restructuring going on at the school I've been teaching at. I will still have my teaching job but won't have my middle management role after August. I;ve been looking for other jobs but haven't had any bites. Being a NON-EU citizen is making it more difficult... I'm not kidding myself. So, please, no rude comments but helpful comments welcome please. How can I market myself so that schools will want to at least interview me. What can I do to make headteachers/employers interested in interviewing me and worth going through the the work permit paperwork, sponsorship hassles, and labour market test (advertising for additional four weeks, etc) for. Any tips would be appreciated. I'll be a permanent resident in about another year.I'm really unhappy at my current school as well as there is a lot of back biting and stitching up going on. Resolved Question: What different ways do you know of marketing a business?

I'm a plumber and I've been set the task of coming up with 12 or more ways of marketing my business, one of which I'm going to try and then monitor every month for the next year. The idea is that if 8 fail I'm going to get pretty good at 4 ways of marketing! So far I've got: web page, referrals, advertising in magazines and newspapers (this really didn't work!) and even parking my sign written van outside the local supermarket for the full 2 hours they allow in the hope that someone will write my number down. I'd like to hear from you if you can come up with any other ideas or anything that has proved successful for you in the past. Many thanks! more

Resolved Question: Ant ideas on marketing a new charity Aid4Egypt?

I have just started this charity and will be going out to Egypt to begin outreach work with poor families later this year. We have a small budget for advertising that is my own money as 100% of all the money we receive goes to the poor. Any ideas how I can get the message accross with minimal cost? Any hints or tips on websites greatly appreciated. ThanksThe charity website is www.aid4egypt.co.uk The Founder and director is Timothy J ChisholmIf you check with the charity commission you will find out that unless your annual donations exceed £5,000 then you are not able to register. You can function quite happily as a not for profit charity organisation with volunteers. If you read the sebsite fully - you will see that 100% of the money that we receive from donations goes towards food parcels for the poor and a weekly grant to the family based on their child attending a free local school. So yes we do comply with the charities act. thank you for your concern. Being an ex-policeman Iam only too aware of my legal responsiblities. Kind regards Timothy Chisholm - Founder and Director. Ps. Resolved Question: acne help, please please read!?

I have moderate acne and I have tried nearly every product going on the market to help reduce them, or even make them go. However, none of these products claim to do what they do and seem to have no effect on my skin! I have been to the doctors and last year they prescribed me Panoxyl Aquagel 2.5 Benzoyl Peroxide. For the first 2 weeks it did have a small effect, and reduced some of the redness, however my acne still lingered. On about the 3rd week (approx) my acne had returned to how it normally is, and the gel had no effect! I've tried all the treatments advertised on the tv and in magazines etc, but they don't work! (e.g. Freederm Gel, clearasil, Acne Complex® Kit (Murad), etc Is there any thing that actually does work in the market or anything else the doctor can give me. (I don't really want any oral antibiotic as I'm only 12 and some pills have bad side effects, and I do not have severe acne. Thanks! 10 points for most useful answer more

Resolved Question: Are you in marketing? Can I pick your brains for a moment?

I recently took the sole import and distribution rights to a unique soft drinks brand. The product is sold in 41 other countries and is hugely successful. I asked for some advice on forums and was given some good tips. Although I have sales background myself, I simply cannot afford the time to take on this role. Given also that the product has a near 90% target audience, I need to have either a massive advertising budget, or I need the help of brokers, marketeers, manufactures representatives, etc etc etc. This product sells itself. Everyone who try's it adopts it. Personally, there has not been any other drink product in our home since I took the rights. My only problem is trying to get this product under the noses of 62 million people as soon as possible........Thank you in advance of any companies you can recommend or advice you can offer............... more

Resolved Question: Best Advertising Method?

Hi, I am looking for another way to advertise my business other than online. It is a computer repair business based in Ayrshire, Glasgow (Scotland) www.mobilecomputerclinic.com I generate 99% of my business via online from people googling for computer repairs in their area, I have pretty good rankings. But I am looking for other ways to advertise my business. I have done door 2 door posting of business cards, and got no response... i feel people see it as junk mail and just bin it, I have also been shop to shop and offered my services in person, I am a pretty good people person and I have generated some business this way but of course its not all consistent. The nature of my business is of course not consistent so I cant really establish a client basis, unless there computers were breaking down every 3 weeks, I wouldn't really be doing my job right then in the first place. I have advertised in online business directories, but again nothing. I don't feel the business is being marketed properly at all, what about these people who's computers break down and they don't have a second or a third to "google me" Any ideas on how to generate more clientele would be greatly appreciated...Koos! ... your kidding about the nike shoes right lol. John, I like the idea of putting local numbers on it like the police etc... suppose people may be more inclined to keep it that way. even if not to get there laptop repaired, suppose i'd be do going a good service. more

Resolved Question: Should I give them copyright?

I was discussing my new photography hobby to my sales and marketing director and showed him a few pictures I had taken. He really liked them. Personally I think they're nothing special and I need a lot of improvement, but I like the practice. He has asked me if I could take shots of our hotel and my city to use on our website. It gives me the opportunity to go out and get happy snapping and if they're good then I will feel quite proud that my pictures would be used on a professional website rather than just flickr. Who knows maybe even used as posters in our next advertising campaign. He discussed this with our general manager today and she said it was a good idea, but she wants to draw up contracts giving the hotel copyright of these pictures. Should I give my company the copyright or just permission to use them? more

I started a new job 2 months ago, which was advertised as 'up to £23k per annum'. I told the recruitment consultant I wanted £23k, and was told this would be passed on to the company. However, when I was offered the job, i was told the maximum salary was only £21k. As the job market is so bad, i said i would take the job anyway. Another employee who started the same job as me at the same time also had the same problem. They have since left, and the job is being advertised again with 3 different agencies as 'up to £23k per annum'. I feel this is unfair, but don't want to cause problems with my new employer. We advertised like mad. But nothing. We did some marketing beforehand (obviously) and the people couldn't wait for us to open. Well,...After 5 months we can not go on with the lease. We still have 6 months left. We are already one month in arrears and can not pay anymore. We really hoped for more business, but nothing. We used up all our savings. History: We signed a contract with Mr X and he told us that all reparations that has to be done, we will be obliged to pay for but he will subtract it from our monthly rental. However, Mr X sold the premises to another company during this time without our knowledge. We just got a call one day and she said we must pay into their account. They are the new owners. We asked for some rental relief, but No. We also put in the toilets, sewerage pipes, doors, basins, etc to be able to get our business license. These new owners did not want to reimburse us. The contract is in my husband name and we are in real need for someone to help us with the wording of a letter to explain and hopefully the landlord will cancel the lease. I just need some help. I know that we are in the wrong legally, but hope they just have a heart. more

Resolved Question: Which is best option?

Hi I am venturing into the world of marketing as an affiliate product owner (clickbank) and would like some advice please. I have considered blogging as a means to advertise my products. But, I am aware that blog.com and blogger.com etc may consider this a form of spamming. I do not have the skills to set up my own website as a blog type site. Neither can I afford, at this stage, to hire a web designer. I am considering buying a domain name, hosting space etc but need advice on what would be best for my needs? I do need the following: - A package that has some form of easy build facility so I can simply build the site myself. - A web site that has many pages for me to blog, upload pictures etc in fact has the same stuff blogger.com provides for its bloggers. - A package with no restrictions so I can blog away whilst advertising my products as and when I deem appropriate. I would appreciate any advice Thanks more

Resolved Question: did i loose my job unfairly?

I am housekeeper with over 20 years experience in the hotel industry. I have worked at 5 star luxury hotels and have left with glowing references. Most of my employers have commented on the high standard of my work and my references all state that i am highly recommended. After 3 years of working at a 4 star hotel I sadly was paid off as the company went into liquidation. I was unemployed for 6 weeks and applied for a job in a 3 star hotel. The hotel was of a much lower standard than i was use to and was much smaller. I was interviewed and offered the job. I didnt sign a contract, silly but at the time i didnt think as i was desperate for work. I worked there for 14 weeks and in this time i was constantly told that my work was excellent. I was asked to cover other peoples shifts and also given a second job covering breakfast shifts which i gladly accepted. After 14 weeks, i turned up to work and was informed that I was being let go as the hotel wasnt busy and there was no work. I was devestated but didnt see what I could do. I was assured that it had nothing to do with my work and my boss stated that he would give me a glowing reference. This happened on 29th january this year. I have since been searching for work and came across an posting on a well known website advertising for a housekeeping position in my area. I applied right away and sent my c.v via email as the ad requested. When i looked at the advert again I was shocked to discover that the position i applied for was in fact MY job! Im horrified as i know my work was of a high standard and i was paid off due to there being no work. While i was working there i was a little taken aback with the number of staff who were employed and sacked within a matter of weeks. Also, when i got my first wage slip I noticed that national insurance contributions had been taken from my wages but tax hadnt. After enquiring about this I had to contact the tax office and found out that I had been declared as self employed. I arranged to pay my tax and thought nothing more of it. I dont want to confront my ex-employer as i am still owed wages and I want paid before I rock the boat. Is there anything I can do about this situation after i get what im owed? Im really angry as the job market is not busy at the moment and jobs are few and far between. can anyone advise? more

Resolved Question: Should corporations be allowed to buy elections?

"US President Barack Obama tore into Supreme Court justices at the weekend after a new ruling lifted restrictions on election campaign spending by wealthy corporations." http://www.morningstaronline.co.uk/index.php/news/content/view/full/86008 "The close 5-4 decision overturns campaign finance laws that restricted political advertising paid for by corporations in the 30 days before a presidential primary election and in the 60 days before general elections." After all, the free market is good for us. Right? more
