Hello ! I'm a student of English and after holiday I'm going to start writing my BA in Linguistics. I'd like to devote my thesis to the concept of FAME and its metaphorical connotations. Do you know any good examples of such metaphors in e.g: - song lyrics - autobiographies of famous people - interviews with celebrities ( and not only ) - literature - quotes / sayings? Resolved Question: Why do we say "pardon my french" when we swear, or "Going Dutch"?

Are the french famous for profanity or something? Do some of their everyday words sound like English Curse(swear, cuss) words? I know we use this expression here in America I'm just not sure why. Also why do we say "Going dutch" when splitting the cost of a bill evenly between everyone? Is that like dutch custom? I've heard it's to do with a negative stereotype of the dutch being cheap but I don't understand why as that isn't really cheap it's just splitting the bill evenly. Not coping out or anything. So my youth pastor at my church is turning 28 and we are having this surprise party for him on Sunday! (two days away!) When asked what he wants for his birthday he says "jesus". So we came up with this idea of making everything "jesus" like. For example my friend made this artwork for him. It says jesus in big block letters and then there is tiny drawings in each of the letters. It is so Pretty. Another friend is making Jesus out of cup cakes. He is taking a dozen cupcakes and creating jesus face out of them. It sounds really cool. Another took a rock and wrote some of Jesus' famous sayings on it. by Ash-Shaikh Abdul Azeez ibn Baaz (rahimahullah) Taken from the introduction of the Correct Islaamic Aqeedah and that which opposes it. The correct 'Aqeedah is the foundation of Islaam and the foundation stone of the Islaamic nation. It is known through evidences of the Sharee'ah from the Book and the Sunnah, that ones actions and statements can only be correct and acceptable to Allah when they arise from a correct 'Aqeedah. If, however, the 'Aqeedah is not correct then the actions and statements that arise due to it are invalid. Allah the Exalted says: Whoever rejects faith, then fruitless is his work and in the Hereafter he will be among the losers. (Soorah al-Maa'idah 5:5) And indeed it has been revealed to you [O Muhammad] as it was to those before you [saying]: 'If you join others in worship with Allah [then] surely [all] your deeds will be vain and you will certainly be amongst the losers.' (az-Zumar 39:65) There are many verses with this meaning. The evidences in the clear Book of Allah and in the Sunnah of His truthful Messenger sall Allahu'alaiyhi wa sallam show the correct Aqeedah in brief, to be: eemaan in Allah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, the Last Day, and Predestination - the good and the bad of it. These six matter are the fundamentals of the correct Aqeedah with which Allah the Almighty revealed His Book and sent His Messenger Muhammad (sall Allahu'alaiyhi wa sallam). All issues concerning the unseen and all that we have been informed of from Allah and His Messenger sall Allahu'alaiyhi wa sallam stem from the above principles and we are obliged to believe in them. The evidence for these six pillars [of Faith] are in the Qur'aan and the Sunnah and are many. These include the sayings of Allah, It is not righteousness that you turn your faces towards the East or the West [in prayers] but righteous is he who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the Angels, the Book and the Prophets. ( al-Baqarah 2:177) The Messenger believes in what has been sent down to him from His Lord, as do the faithful believers. Each one believes in Allah, His Angels, His Books and His Messengers. [They say:] We make no distinction between one and another of His Messengers. (al-Baqarah 2:285) O you who believe! Believe in Allah, His Messenger [Muhammad], the Book [the Qur'aan] which He has sent down to His Messenger, and the Scripture which He sent down to those before [him]. Whosoever disbelieves in Allah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, and the Last Day has strayed far away. (an-Nisaa' 4:136) Do you not know that Allah knows all that is in heavens and the earth? Verily it is [all] in a record. Verily, that is easy for Allah. (al-Hajj 22:70) There are also many authentic ahaadeeth proving these fundamentals. Amongst them is the famous authentic hadeeth narrated by Muslim in his Saheeh on the authority of the leader of the believers, 'Umar bin al-Khattab, radi Allahu' anhu, that [the Angel] Jibreel' alayhis salaam asked the Prophet sall Allahu 'alayhi sallam about eemaan. He replied to him, ''Eemaan is to believe in Allah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, the Last Day and to believe in Predestination - the good and bad of it.'' (Bukhaaree and Muslim) All the obligatory matters of belief relating to Allah, the Day of Judgement and other matters of the Unseen originate from these six principles. more

There is a famous divine saying (Hadith Qudsi) which can probably be found in all books written about the goal of creation in Islam. According to this Hadith Qudsi, Allah (SWT) says: "I was a hidden treasure; I loved to be known. Hence I created the world so that I would be known." Allah (SWT) has created the world out of love. Thus, a question arises: why did Allah (SWT) love to be known? Certainly, Allah (SWT) has no desire for fame. The purpose behind His love to be known is understandable by considering the fact that Allah (SWT) who is the Wise, the Compassionate and the Merciful creates the universe and particularly human beings to give them the maximum grace and perfection that they have the capacity for receiving. Of course, the perfection of any kind of being is decided by the degree of its similarity or closeness to Allah (SWT), and the most important factors in this are love of Allah (SWT), and prior to that knowledge of Allah (SWT), since there can be no love without knowing the beloved. It is narrated in another Hadith Qudsi that when God loves someone, He becomes his ears, his eyes, his tongue, and his hands: "When I love him, then I shall be his ears with which he listens, his eyes with which he sees, his tongue with which he speaks, and his hands with which he holds; if he calls Me, I shall answer him, and if he asks Me, I shall give him." Similarly the way man has physical needs in life which he strives and struggles to fulfill, the soul too has needs that must be satisfied. These spiritual needs and urges have been placed by the hands of the creator in the depths of the creation's soul. Man has a natural inclination to find love and love in any form towards any object has no valid reality except when it is for the sake of Allah (SWT). All love directly or indirectly in some way, shape, or form is a man's hope to be in reach of the ultimate perfection, which can be nobody but Allah (SWT) - the Almighty. God's love for the world in general and human beings in particular is unanimously believed and emphasized by all Muslims. Indeed, one of the God's names is al-Wadud, He who loves. Some non Muslims allege that God in Islam is very strict and cruel God who demands to be obeyed fully. He is not loving and kind. Nothing can be farther from truth than this allegation. Resolved Question: Yogi Bear live action movie review?

It is insane to actually be reviewing a movie many months before it comes out, but in truth, I actually am reviewing this one. I'm reviewing Yogi Bear 8 months before the film's release, and even a few months before the trailers' release, based on information from the Internet and based on the badness of other cartoon to live action movies, and also based off predictions of what I think will be in the movie. Yogi Bear is pure torture. 3-D doesn't make it any better, it only made it worse. The movie itself is bad, too. When you voice a famous cartoon character, try to make yourself sound like the cartoon character, which is what I always do when voice acting. Here, all the actors are using their regular voices. Dan Akroyd stinks as Yogi Bear. You can sometimes sense his bad breath when he says the word "penis" in front of the camera. Why does Hollywood not like the idea of casting young elementary school children in a major motion picture instead of a teen heartthrob? That's just what they did with Justin Timberlake, who does no justice to the part of Boo-Boo. Whatever actress who plays the role of Yogi Bear's girlfriend is someone that doesn't deserve to act after this. As for Ranger Smith, all Will Ferrell does is be Will Ferrell. His performance isn't any different from his other performances. The characters themselves are atrocious. The bears look like roadkill, even in CGI. Also, they seem to have the eyes of a killer. Farting for a whole minute in the entire movie is distracting. Yogi Bear with crappy CGI dancing to Soulja Boy is something that makes me want to strangle small animals. The bears even sometimes cuss. Several uses of the word "shit" and two sayings of "kick some ass" is something I don't want coming out of Yogi Bear's mouth. Watching this movie with the 3D glasses will not only cause you some strain and heath problems, it could also suck your brains out and make you lose your decency as a true American man or woman. Jellystone Park seems to have been reduced in size from what was in the cartoon. It looks bad when something is downgraded from the original state. Yogi Bear is one of them. I have great ideas, Hollywood. I would like to take a shot at animation and show you what Adobe Photoshop animation is capable of. I give the movie 1/2 a star out of 5. 1/2 because there could be a bit of charm in there, like Alvin and the Chipmunks. more

Imam Hasan Al-Basri was one of the most renowned tabi`een (the generation after the death of the Prophet ) and prominent figures of his time. He was a jurist and a scholar. He was a pious and devout person. He was famous for his eloquence, inspiring speeches, wisdom, asceticism, and deep knowledge. Abu Qataadah Al-`Adawi said: "Follow this scholar, for I have never seen a man who had similar opinions to `Umar Ibn Al-Khattaab except him." Some of Al-Hasan's sayings Al-Hasan Al-Basri was a wise, eloquent man whose words were just like pearls. For example, he said: "Son of Adam, you are no more than a few days. Whenever a day passes, a part of you has gone." He also said: "Son of Adam, never please anybody if this entails the Wrath of Allaah. Never obey anybody if this entails disobedience to Allaah. Never thank anybody for something which Allaah granted you. Never blame anybody for something which Allaah did not grant you. Allaah created people and they steer the course pre-determined for them. Whoever thinks that extra care and interest will increase his provisions, let him try such extra care and interest in increasing his life span, changing his color, or increasing the size of his limbs and build!" Ok so i'm 18 and i'm like obsessed with Victoria's Secret so I want to see what other high school/college girls think. How old are you? What collections do you wear? (PINK, Sexy Little Things, Very Sexy, etc) What kind(s) of underwear do you wear? (thong, v-string, boyshort, bikini, etc) Even if you know nobdy is going to see them, why do you wear sexy underwear from collections like "Sexy Little Things" and "Very Sexy" If you wear underwear from the PINK line, what kind of prints/designs do you have on yours? I'll go first! I'm 18 I wear mostly PINK, but I also have a few pairs from VS Signature and Sexy Little Things! I mostly wear thongs, v-strings. and boyshorts, but I have a few string bikinis. The last one is my favorite question!
