1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays. 2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc. 3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial, ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc. 4. Supremacy of the Military Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized. 5. Rampant Sexism The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Opposition to abortion is high, as is homophobia and anti-gay legislation and national policy. 6. Controlled Mass Media Sometimes the media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common. 7. Obsession with National Security Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses. 8. Religion and Government are Intertwined Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions. 9. Corporate Power is Protected The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite. 10. Labor Power is Suppressed Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed. 11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts is openly attacked, and governments often refuse to fund the arts. 12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations. 13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders. 14. Fraudulent Elections Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.14 out of 14 ? 10 out of 14 ? 7 out of 14 ? 3 out of 14 ? ------------ How many is too many anyway? How close to a full blown fascist regime are you comfortable with ?"downwithsocialists" Were you against Bush's policy when he used tax payer money to bail out the underwriters of the insurance companies who would have gone broke because they over extended themselves and could not cover the banks if they called their policies in due to the large amount of people who could not pay their morgage ? John McCain's staunch opposition to gay marriage was one of the key parts of his presidential campaign. But it has become clear this was not supported in his own household. His daughter, Meghan, is a vocal advocate of gay rights. Now his wife, Cindy, has appeared in a poster campaign against California's proposition 8 – a law banning same-sex marriage. The move has shocked and delighted gay rights campaigners and led to questions about the state of the McCains' own marriage. Cindy McCain appears in the poster with silver duct tape across her mouth and the campaign slogan, "NOH8", marked on her cheek. "Aligning yourself with the platform of gay marriage as a Republican still tends to be very stigmatic, but Cindy McCain wanted to participate in the campaign to show people that party doesn't matter." http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/blog/2010/jan/21/cindy-mccain-noh8-gay-marriage THAT WOMAN IS RUINING REPUBLICANS! The corporations have been handed rights as a human being. Which means that now corporations can buy government, through do influence. corporations can advertise, for their candidates, which gives the candidate unlimited funding from their corporate sponsors. Here is the scary thing. imagine corporation, owned by X country, wants to influence the U.S. government. X country can inject its influence via corporation Z, and effect the election results of the U.S. Government. If X countries favored candidate wins, through corporation Z, the candidate now will be indebted to corporation Z, that is a buffer for X country. In other words, the republicans have put the U.S. for sale to the highest bitter. And the world corporate giants, no matter who they are, or come from, now will influence who gets elected. Talk about republican patriotism.I wonder what the likes of China, Saudi Arabia, and others have in store for us.@Kush Do you think any corporation will invest on a candidate or party that doesn't fulfill the request demanded by prior investors. The candidate, to maintain sponsors, will fulfill those requests. I'm trying to not question people's charitable giving, but at the same time, I can't help but wonder… I, for some reason, doubt people would "care" as much as they do if Haitians were white. I was watching CSPAN and a member of the Congressional Black Caucus was discussing the disaster, and something was telling me that if the people of Haiti were predominately white, they probably wouldn't care as much about the suffering in that country. The election of Obama, the fact that he was an inexperienced, bumper-sticker candidate with no real ideas or solutions, just catchy slogans, demonstrates to me that one of the main reasons he was elected was because he was black. Seriously, if he had switched bodies with McCain, he wouldn't have won. In my opinion, a lot of people felt the need to show that they weren't racist, or that America is not a racist nation, so they voted for him. I think this is the same thing that is going on with Haiti. moreResolved Question: what was James k.Polk's campaign slogan in the 1844 election ?what did the slogan mean?

Experts are warning for decades about the dwindling energy sources, increasing demands for energy from multiple sectors; but except for some frugal tapping from Wind energy and dreams of costly atomic generation plants, we dont seem to tap sources like bio diesel possibilities already ascertained as feasible for mass production, use of sea waves / solar / biogas from animal / human / plant wastes etc; About the increasing demands for water for agricultural / industrial / civic and the dwindling sources also our govts had responded with very lax attitudes. Neither the ambitious National Watersheds Programme, nor urban water harvesting are making any big headway, in spite of massive outlays.. There is much reports of misuse of funds also; Maintaining the capacity of existing dams, preventing the encroachments / diversion of catchment areas etc are not concentrated.. Educational and health specialties are growing randomly based on existing demands irrationally, thus ending up in over production of graduates in one specialty and shortage in others. No attention is paid for planned generation of jobs directed to local needs on priority followed by meeting outsourcing demands. Govt at the centre had given up the River Linking Projects talked for over several decades. The resources are wasted for writing off loans or giving protection to select sectors, rather than developing infra. Watershed progs have swallowed several 100s of crores across the country for over two decades.. The Jatropha spp has been programmed from 1990s and judge the progress..! Alternate energy devt figs cited by MS are like govt dept statements that does not give the full picture. The projected potential, demand pattern, allocations made and the achievements are so far apart. People should harvest water says MS as if it is the people who allot large chunks of catchment and foreshore lands for buildings. This is just an effort to sensitise people about the challenges, no politics.MS is still withdrawing with his conviction that everything moving in 'right direction' in spite of mountains of audit reports / outlays and performance figs / etc which made me call for apolitical view.. Maitree could have added to the strength of the well known perceptions on development mis carriages.. I don't know if she is otherwise busy.. Poornakumar seems to be flooded with ideas of sorts and many issues were left for our judgement - E.g., river link challenges.. We are either apathetic about public issues or get politically motivated rather than poised for dispassionate assessments.. OK. I think I gain more antagonists than able to educate people.. In my other interest, R&S also much emotions rule..! May be I can examine the option to stop the futile exercise to have any meaningful discussion in these sites and enter into Jokes and Home work sites to pass time.. No heartburns would afflict anyone..!!hello Bala sir, are you closing even the doors of Jokes for me? I just said that arguments get bitter or hostile rather than sharper and sensible, that is all. hello Saai, I am not discouraging any one to put their points. TEHRAN, Iran – Opposition Web sites and witnesses say Iranian security forces have opened fire on anti-government protesters in the capital, killing at least three people and injuring two others. Authorities had warned of a harsh crackdown should opposition supporters hold rallies coinciding with Sunday's religious observances marking the 7th Century death in battle of one of Shiite Islam's most beloved saints. Police helicopters circled overhead and clouds of smoke billowed into the sky. The pro-reform Web site Rah-e-Sabz said security forces fired on protesters, killing at least three. Witnesses say one of the victims was an elderly man who had a gunshot wound to the forehead. He was seen being carried by opposition supporters. THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below. TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iranian police fired warning shots in the air and beat opposition protesters in central Tehran Sunday, witnesses and opposition Web sites said. Authorities had warned of a harsh crackdown should opposition supporters hold rallies coinciding with Sunday's religious observances marking the 7th Century death in battle of one of Shiite Islam's most beloved saints. Police helicopters circled overhead and black clouds of smoke billowed into the sky over central Tehran. Witnesses said police opened fire with warning shots to try to disperse the crowds. The pro-reform Web site Rah-e-Sabz said security forces beat protesters as they chanted anti-government slogans. Police had blocked streets leading to the center of the capital to try to prevent thousands of people from joining the protest. Still, many opposition supporters managed to break the security wall. Ambulance sirens could be heard near Engelab Square, in central Tehran, where the unrest was taking place. Opposition activists have held a series of anti-government protests since the death of a dissident cleric last week. Last Sunday's death of the 87-year-old Grand Ayatollah Hossein Ali Montazeri, a sharp critic of Iran's leaders, has given a new push to opposition protests, which have endured despite a heavy security crackdown since June's disputed presidential election. What is the last consequence ? what will be de end of this ? can u guess? moreResolved Question: Does he like me? (10 points)?
If you don't feel like reading all of this, skim through or read only a few paragraphs. I'd really appreciate it if you read the whole thing though. Okay, so this guy rides my school bus. I was running for student council and my slogan was really catchy, and I had made stickers that had my slogan on them. This girl (she doesn't have a crush on him and he doesn't have a crush on her her) taped one of my stickers on his backpack for fun. He ended up knowing my slogan and whenever I see him he yells it out. (even though the election was like 3 months ago) I have to see him every other day because his homeroom is where I have to go every other morning to put my instrument in. Whenever he sees me he yells out my slogan and even though i say he's annoying, I secretly really like it. One time I was on the bus, and I looked over at him and he was staring at me. I tried an experiment. When I saw him staring at me, instead of looking away i continued to stare into his eyes. After about 2 seconds i stopped because it was too terrifying. He just kept staring. He has a snobby girlfriend that I heard he regrets going out with, so I feel i have a chance with him. On the bus sometimes my friend and I bother/talk to him and his friend. Also on facebook a couple of times he typed in my slogan to me. He's really funny but is sometimes quiet like me. In case you guys were wondering, my friend said I was probably the 2nd (if not 2nd, 3rd) most popular girl on our team. (Our school split our grade into 3 teams, about 90 people per team. You can only have the same classes with people on your team, so usually you only interact with people on your team). Also my best friend said that a lot of guys like me. I'm single right now, and in a lot of cases (in my school) the guys who like the girls don't have the guts to ask the girl out. Does he like me? 10 points to most thorough answer :)i'm in junior high...our version of "dating" is saying you're going out, but not really going out. In my opinion the phrase "Political correctness gone mad" is one of the most lazy and frequently misused in all journalism. I can not count the number of times I have seen a journalist say "It's political correctness gone mad" when they are actually referring to health and safety (even in good broadsheets). An accurate definition of political correctness is sometime along the lines of: an often clumsy compromise in order to reach a mutually inclusive language. I know that sometimes it goes too far and can be quite cumbersome, but the intentions behind it are good. I have seen the difference it has made to the lives of so many. It used to be that people of ethnic minorities were routinely discriminated against in everyday conversation with derogatory and offensive terms (e.g ****er, paki, etc). In 1969 in the Birmingham bi election in the UK the conservative party used the slogan "If you want a ****er for a neighbour vote Liberal or Labour." Political correctness ended that endemic hatred and marginalisation, and if the only cost of that is one has to be a bit careful about using certain terms in the office, surely that is a small price to pay?jimmbbo: why are tolerance and social justice sucha bad thing? You can say it's a left Marxist conspiracy, but that doesn't change the fact it made life better for a huge number of people. Those who call it an infringment on free speech, what would you say if it was removed? Would you racially abuse someone, stereotpye a particular minority, insult a disableed person? What does political correctness stop you saying?Yes but free speech never included inciting racial hatred! That was made a crime a long time ago. I just wondered what is Pc stopping you saying? An actual example. moreResolved Question: Has political correctness gone mad?

I am one point from getting a B in English and my professor said if I write a satire then she will give me the point. Please tell me what you think. Thanks It was November 5, 2008, our knight in shining armor was elected president, Borack Obama. Everyone spoke of change and new beginnings for the nation. Obama listed hundreds of promises before and after the election. Thanks to his stimulus package, our nation is now better and stronger than ever. What is the best way to begin a presidency? How about free money for everyone! It is simple logic. The Federal Reserve prints the money and we just simply give it away. It’s like Monopoly money but in real life. There are no long term consequences and everyone is happy and has money. Look around, everyone is now driving BMW’s thank to the president’s 757 billion dollar stimulus package which, by the way, is the largest in history. We should keep up the good work by just printing out another 700 billion dollars of free money and distribute it equally among the United States citizens. This way, no one would ever have to worry about unemployment again. In light of the Christmas holidays, everyone wants to get their children the very best. Thanks to the stimulus package, we are all able to make this possible. I have already managed to spend $15,000 to make this the best Christmas ever! I hope that the Federal Reserve does not run out of paper because I am starting to run a little low. For those who have no family, the stimulus gift has been a great way to keep warm. The warmth that comes from a dollar, literally, is much better than traditional firewood. A ninety year old woman explains how the stimulus package has changed her life, “Growing up I had nothing. Here I was ninety years old still with nothing. Thanks to Obama, I have it all! I have started a business in which I make kitty litter out of hundred dollar bills. Without the stimulus money none of this would have been possible. By the way, I think that the cats like it too”. This is definitely a stronger nation than it was twenty years ago. We no longer have bums in the streets and crime has gone down significantly. In fact, if you walk through downtown Mobile you will see a few fifty dollar bills just blowing in the wind. Nobody cares anymore; money is just like a paper napkin. The only problem with free money is that not many people need or want to work anymore. So, trash is starting to line the streets and grocery stores are shutting down. In conclusion, President Obama has exceeded his expectations. His slogan during the elections was, “Change we can believe in”. He has kept his promises and changed a lot of things. I hope that he keeps up the excellent job being president. He has already managed to fulfill the promise of getting or troops back from the Middle East. In addition to free money and our troops coming home, everyone hopes for free health care soon. Then his approval rating would definitely be at one hundred percent. more
