Open Question: What would be the most effective way to market my dad's company to potential investors?

My dad is the president of Teuton Resources Corp., a mineral exploration company focused on the golden triangle of north-western British Columbia. Teuton has properties right next to major gold discoveries such as Seabridge Gold's KSM project and Silver Standard's Snowfield project. Teuton is the largest landholder in the prolific area. My dad wants me to start an adwords campaign to get his company out in the open. I've tried in the past but all of my keywords, which are relevant to http://www.teuton.com, come up with low scores, usually around 4/10. I need to figure this out but am not sure where to start. Using other advertising options such as Facebook are an option also. Any ideas? more

Open Question: Has anyone seen those Go Daddy commercials?

Voting Question: What are some controversies in advertising/marketing?

I'm doing my senior project on advertising. I plan to ask a local store (whose owners I know) if I can do an ad campaign for them (commercial, print ads, posters). But before we do the actual "product" we need to write a research paper. So I need a research topic, that includes my point of view and an opposing point of view. There are many controversies in advertisement this day in age, but what is one that is relevant to my project idea? more

Resolved Question: How do you know you are not brainwashed?

I can know, for certain, that I am not brainwashed; because, I do not follow or quote dogma of any kind in response to questions directed at me about me. I do not engage in any rituals that reinforce any irrational ideas or beliefs. I question and doubt everything, until it can be proved to me. I am a free thinker and evaluate everything in the context of reality and not what others would have me believe. So, how do you know you are not brainwashed? To help you answer, here is a definition of brainwashing from Answers.com (but reference any definition of brainwashing you like): 1.Intensive, forcible indoctrination, usually political or religious, aimed at destroying a person's basic convictions and attitudes and replacing them with an alternative set of fixed beliefs. 2.The application of a concentrated means of persuasion, such as an advertising campaign or repeated suggestion, in order to develop a specific belief or motivation.imrod, your opinion of me is irrelevant and does not address the question in any way, shape, or form. Resolved Question: Why won't the following work?

Most of us are concerned about corruption in campaign contributions. Seems like the candidate w/ the most money usually wins and they in turn end up in the pocket of the constituents which influences their political decisions. We devise a method for candidates to qualify w/ equal measures. Then, a percentage of all campaign contributions goes into a fund that is equally distributed for television political advertising. After 2 answers ... both TU. My concern is about campaign reform. Surely gov has measures at it's disposal to equal the playing field. My opinion is that it doesn't want to ... meaning politics as usual (something I'm not comfortable w/ and I'm surprised if a majority of folks do). more

Resolved Question: Working with older people - what to address them by?

So I work, and have worked since April, as the Press Liaison/public relations person on a State Rep campaign. I am on a first-name basis with my boss (the candidate) and the two other members of the core team, the field director and the campaign manager. I email and talk on the phone with reporters and advertising executives a lot as part of my position, and I also refer to them by their first names. I am 19 years old, going into my second year of college. Recently we recruited town captains to the campaign, and the captain from my town ("Jane Doe") is also the parent of a kid I did band with in high school, so I met her when I was 15/16, and used to address her as Mrs. Doe. I received an email from her and responded using her first name. Last night at a campaign meeting, when all the captains were introducing each other, she said to me, "Oh you know me, I'm Mrs. Doe, well I guess you can call me Jane now since you're out of the band." She seemed offended that I had previously called her Jane, but I assumed that since we are de facto coworkers now, it is acceptable to address her by her first name. Keeping in mind she is a good 20+ years older than me--but then, so is everyone else on the campaign. The whole point: can I call her by her first name, or should I refer to her still as Mrs. Doe? more

Resolved Question: Should I start an email marketing company?

I am looking to earn an additional income alongside my day job, with tasks to be completed in the evening. I have thought about offering my services of designing and sending emails for small companies in the local area to help promote and advertise their products and services. This would include looking at the analysis and advising the customer. Primarily I would take orders through a website, but may promote the idea with cold calling around local businesses I am a qualified marketing person which adds credence and I have a few years experience of managing these type of campaigns, so I feel it is a natural extension of what I am already doing Just wanted to know if anyone has any experience of doing anything similar or any thoughts on this idea? more

Resolved Question: have you ever dated someone who turned out to be a huge liar?

i did last year. i did not notice at first as she was so charming and sweet but then cracks started appearing when she started saying stuff like she knows the parents of a little mixed race girl who asda uses in their george children's clothing advertising campaigns. at the time i thought to myself wow how cool is that! but later i started to think about it and think mmmmmm? 100's of people visit asda every day and what are the chances of even one of them knowing the parents or even the child being used in a advertising poster campaign? its very unlikely. then one day she suddenly told me that her brother had driven by in a unmarked car while we were walking to asda one morning and that he said we looked good together and that i looked like a nice guy. again it took me by surprise and i thought well thats nice but why didn't he beep his horn and stop to say hello to his sister and me? she told me he is a firearms officer and therefore has to be discreet(yeah right ; ) also when we went to notting hill one day she told me her brother had phoned her and said he was parked on the corner watching us. i thought to myself but what a co-incidence? how could he happen to be in a area that we went to together for the first time? she said he was watching us in a unmarked car. now i went up to notting hill last week and i think to myself what are the chances that he would be parked on the corner again? i think it is obvious she was lying and saying that for some strange unknown reason? then she told me she has a salon...but never told me the name of it so i could look it up online. then she said she is loaded and owns her own house...yet a picture she sent me shows walls without wallpaper and filthy curtains in the background. then she sent me pictures claiming it to be photos of her house, yet when i was chatting with her on cam last year she showed me the outside of her house and it looked nothing like the pics she sent me. then she claimed to be pregnant...came to my house did all the typical things like claiming to be suffering from morning sickness. and then later she sent me a pic and she did not have any big belly in front of her. yet she still insisted she was pregnant. then she sent me two scan pics claiming they were pics of the baby she was carrying in side her. they turned out to be fakes. then she said she was gonna have an abortion...lead me to believe it right up to the last minute then confessed it was a lie and that she could not go through with it and then said she was gonna go ahead and have it. then she used to phone me up and insist that i talk about the baby...when i refused she would get upset and start crying. when she came here last year she did the same thing and started crying when i said i did not want to talk about it. then a ex of mine pressured me into giving her my ex phone number to pretend she was a midwife to see if my ex would say she is pregnant or not? well she not only said she was not pregnant but also that she had no womb. then one day i found out another ex of mine had died last july and then a few days later i got a phone call telling me her friend had collapsed and died and that she was gonna buy some flowers for her at the weekend...come the weekend she suddnly said she is not going out at all. then one day we went out for a cuppa and later that night in bed she suddenly said that a man in the place had tried to chat her up and yet i was sitting in front and did not see him chat her up. i could go on with the amount of lies and strange things she told me but i think by now the impression you are getting is that she was to be frank not well. she even told me she was a top notch social worker and works for the police and gets flown to places like scotland to look for and bring back teenage runaways. then earlier this year she said she is not working anymore and is living with a new boyfriend and is gonna marry him and then she finally admitted there is no baby therefore the whole being pregnant thing was a line. it is a wonder i did not have a nervous breakdown because by that time i was almost at the edge of one after being lied to and promised that i was gonna be a dad and that she would move to london to be with me etc. all of that was lies again. and then she just turns around and walks away promising to come back and now a year has passed and i have not seen her since. she has to be the strangest woman i have ever dated and i hope it won't ever happen again. i am left feeling that she is mentally unwell and makes up things to give a false impression of being a big shot when in reality she is small fry. very sad experience. have you ever been through something like that before?hi lisa, thanks for responding and sharing your experience. i'm sorry you were mislead...sadly that kind of experience is very common...and i think the best way to prevent it happening is to simply say no until you find a man that will wait until he is your husband. a man with self control is more likely to treat a woman with respect than a man who is eager to get a woman in bed. and regarding my ex(we broke up in june this year) yes i agree i think she does need professional help. everyday i think about her wondering how she is? i feel sorry for her...i think what she did she may not be able to help if she really is mentally disturbed. i mean for example she told a gross about a good friend of mine who then stopped talking to me for nearly a year. when i found out it was not true what my ex had told me about her i was shocked and hurt and confused? why lie about someone you don't know? perhaps she saw her as a threat but still that does not justify slandering a women who was greiving more

Resolved Question: How many Democrats will try their hardest to keep distance from Obama in the Midterm elections?

In campaigns across the country, many Democrats are doing just that. In Indiana, Rep. Joe Donnelly is running a television ad in which he details his generally conservative stance on immigration while images of Obama and Pelosi are shown on screen. "That may not be what the Washington crowd wants, but I don't work for them," Donnelly says in the ad. "I work for you." Rep. Travis Childers, who represents a district in northern Mississippi where Obama won just 38 percent of the vote in 2008, takes a similar approach in his TV advertising -- promoting the fact that he has "voted against every big budget" since winning a special election two years ago. (Photos: Ground Zero mosque controversy) Even some Democratic candidates who are being heavily touted by the White House appear determined to keep the president at arm's length. Shortly after Obama played a lead role in helping Sen. Michael Bennet defeat former state House speaker Andrew Romanoff in a Democratic primary fight last Tuesday, Bennet was asked whether he would want the president to campaign with him this fall. "We'll have to see," Bennet told ABC's George Stephanopoulos -- a response well short of a ringing endorsement of Obama's political standing. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/08/15/AR2010081502551.html more

Resolved Question: What was the name of the double decker bus I saw in the parking lot while I was on a greyhound in Illinois?

I was on a Greyhound, and we stopped at a gas station in rural Illinois. While I was there, I saw a double decker bus mostly filled to the top with passengers. So how come when I google "double decker bus in America", all I get is hundreds of results of misinformed people in forums blabbing about how "'we don't have' double decker buses in America" (even though we DO, obviously, or I wouldn't have seen one). It's like, every single search result is preceded by the three words "we don't have". It's driving me NUTS how hard it is to find information on the bus I saw in that parking lot, all because I forgot the brand name of the bus line that was painted on the side! I know that at the top of the bus, where they always have a sign saying where the bus is headed to, the sign said "Chicago" so that's where the bus was headed. It looked exactly like a "regular bus" for highway travel. Except for the fact that it had two floors. Whoever is making these double decker busses has a REALLY crappy advertising campaign, obviously, since, according to Google, everybody still thinks that "there are no" "double decker busses in America". I know MILLIONS of Americans who would LOVE to ride on a double decker bus, especially the upper floor, where you would get an excellent view. So why aren't these people making television commercials or newspaper advertisements? The only reason most Americans haven't ridden one is that they don't know that the double Decker buses exist in America yet because of their lack of an advertising campaign. All it would take is one commercial and tens of millions of us would be lining up. MILLIONS of Americans are BEGGING for access to double decker busses in America, not only does it provide an excellent view, but you can drive twice as many people with one driver and not that much more gas either. Their only problem is that nobody is telling them that there already ARE double decker busses in America so most people don't know these busses exist yet. I know of them because I saw one in a parking lot. Thanks to their lack of advertising, that's the only mention of one I've ever seen, is by seeing the bus itself. My only problem is I saw one and I didn't write down the brand name on the side of the bus in time, and when I Google "double decker busses in America" I STILL can't find any info on it (because of what I mentioned above about that search) more

Resolved Question: As a law-abiding citizen (i hope) would you be seriously offended by this ad?

Or would you be glad that there was something was being done to curb terrorism? London, Aug 11 (ANI): The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), Britain's advertising watchdog, has banned a police advertisement on radio encouraging people to report neighbours they suspect as being terrorists, saying it could cause "serious offence" to law-abiding citizens. "We considered that some listeners, who might identify with the behaviours referred to in the ad, could find the implication that their behaviour was suspicious, offensive. Some listeners might be offended by the suggestion that they report members of their community for acting in the way described," The BBC quoted ASA as saying. "We therefore concluded that the ad could cause serious offence," it added. The anti-terrorist hotline ad lists "suspicious" behaviour to look out for from quiet neighbours as paying by cash and keeping curtains drawn. "This may mean nothing but together it could all add up to you having suspicions. The man at the end of the street doesn't talk to his neighbours much, because he likes to keep himself to himself," the radio ad stated. He pays with cash because he doesn't have a bank card, and he keeps his curtains closed because his house is on a bus route. If you suspect it, report it," it suggested. About 18 listeners who heard the advert on Talksport, complained to the watchdog with ten of them saying it could be offensive to law-abiding citizens, while the rest said it could encourage people to harass or victimise their neighbours and was appealing to people's fear. The campaign by the Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo) was aimed at promoting the confidential anti-terrorist hotline. The Metropolitan Police, speaking on Acpo's behalf, said that the d addressed the issue of terrorists living within communities and sometimes what appeared to be an insignificant behaviour ould potentially be linked to terrorist activities". Resolved Question: Is my tenant's Virginia employer breaking the law?

Okay, let me start with saying my tenant is mentally challenged, so A) the details about this are very hazy and B) he frequently gets taken advantage of by employers. He is an unlicensed massage therapist for a hair salon and spa. They offered massages before he started there, but he is currently their only therapist. The agreement is that he is paid 50% of every massage and keeps any tips received. When he went to pick up his paycheck, the salon owner said he "didn't have anything on the books" even though he had done 15 half-hour massages that week. The owner told him that those massages are part of an advertising campaign to "build up his business" and all of those clients used a coupon for a free massage. Therefore half of free is nothing, so the owner does not have to pay him (he has kept any tips he receives from these massages, but that is all). My tenant did not request this advertising campaign or have anything to do with it. He is not the owner of the massage therapy aspect of the business, so any advertising is for the salon, not for my tenant specifically. IMHO, the salon owes him for half of what each of those massages would have cost, regardless what kind of coupon the client used. I have to believe it is illegal to not pay him for his services. Does anyone know enough about Virginia employment law to shed some light on this situation? My internet searches are coming up short (and since he's coming up short on the rent, I definitely want to know the answer!). Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Could the government stimulate consumer demand through advertising?

Since the recovery has been so slow due to low consumer demand, could the government launch a massive advertising campaign (perhaps spending as much as both candidates in the last presidential election) to encourage the American people to spend and invest more (and put off savings) until unemployment has dropped? This campaign would appeal to the patriotism of the public and explain that just a modest increase in spending can bring the economy back (which is true). Could this work, and wouldn't it be worthwhile to try, considering how much the government has already spent on stimulus? (The last presidential election cost approximately 2.4 billion dollars.)SDD: The recession was caused by inadequate financial regulations leading to rampant speculation, not household and government debt. Obviously if everybody agreed to spend a little more (by putting off paying the credit cards down) aggregate demand would rise and unemployment would fall. We're in a paradox of thrift situation. more

Voting Question: Should the government pay for an advertising campaign to encourage consumer spending?

Resolved Question: Are Republicans being funded by entities that Americans will not approve of? Like the Taliban, China, the Mob?

http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/07/27/campaign.finance/?hpt=T2 Washington (CNN) -- Senate Republicans narrowly blocked Democratic campaign finance disclosure legislation in the Senate Tuesday after raising concerns the bill would curb freedom of speech and tilt campaign spending in favor of the Democrats. A 57-41 vote fell short of the 60 votes needed for the Senate to cut off debate on the measure. Republicans unanimously opposed the measure while Democrats solidly backed it. Democrats said the legislation -- known as the DISCLOSE Act -- would bring greater transparency to campaign contributions from corporations, labor unions, and other special interests, which were able to ramp up political spending in the wake of the Supreme Court's controversial ruling in Citizens United vs. Federal Election Commission earlier this year. The bill would require organizations paying for political advertising to disclose the names of their top donors in the ads, similar to what now is required of political candidates for federal office. more

Resolved Question: Why did the GOP block the campaign bill?

As expected, Senate GOP blocks campaign bill By DAVID ESPO (AP) – 1 hour ago WASHINGTON — Senate Republicans blocked legislation imposing new restrictions on political activity by special interest groups Tuesday, likely dealing a fatal blow to a drive by the White House and congressional Democrats to rewrite campaign rules in the run-up to the midterm elections. The 57-41 vote was three short of the total needed to advance the measure, which calls for greater disclosure on campaign advertising funded independently by corporations, unions and other organizations, but included an exemption for the National Rifle Association and a small number of other groups. Less than 100 days before the elections, the debate was highly political — and the outcome widely anticipated. Anticipating defeat, Democrats swiftly unleashed a coordinated attack employing one of their emerging campaign themes. "After a year of defending big banks, big insurance, big oil and other special interests, Republicans might want to drown out the voices of Americans who don't have the financial resources of big corporations but want to have their say in this year's elections," the party's chairman, Tim Kaine, said in a statement. Republicans, anticipating big gains in the fall, folded the day's Senate events into their own election-year argument — that Democrats have been unsuccessful in easing double-digit unemployment. "Today was a rebuke to congressional Democrats who need to put aside their electoral self-interest and start addressing our struggling economy, which continues to be the primary concern among American voters," GOP Chairman Michael Steele said. Democrats drafted the bill in response to a Supreme Court ruling last winter that said corporations and unions were free to spend their own money on advertising, mass mailings and other forms of political activity. A companion measure cleared the House last month on a near party-line vote over vociferous Republican protests. Under both bills, nearly all organizations airing political ads independently of candidates or the political parties would be required to disclose their top donors and the amounts they paid. The group's CEO or other top official would be required to appear on screen taking responsibility for the commercial. Additionally, any business, union or other entity holding a government contract worth more than $10 million would be banned from a variety of political activity, as would firms in possession of federal bailout funds and corporations in which foreigners own more than a majority of voting shares. Corporations, labor unions and others engaging in certain types of independent political activity would be required to report donations, dues or other contributions from all donors who have given $600 or more. Whatever the partisanship involved, the legislation was a case study in the power of special interests. The NRA exemption originally was added in the House after Democrats concluded it was essential if moderate and conservative members of the rank and file were to vote for the legislation. The loophole was then broadened as the leadership sought to quell criticism that it was bowing to a group that had been instrumental in blocking gun control bills long sought by liberals. In the end, the NRA was officially neutral, angering Republicans who didn't want Democrats to have any political help in advancing the legislation. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and AFL-CIO both opposed the bill, a rare agreement of two arch-foes. Organized labor had been neutral when the bill passed the House, but switched its position after changes were made to tighten reporting requirements for transfers of dues money from local unions and their national headquarters. The American Civil Liberties Union also was against the bill, arguing it was a violation of First Amendment rights. The constitutional debate was overshadowed by the approach of elections, though. Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., the bill's chief sponsor, said it was intended to crack down on shadowy campaign groups that spend heavily on attack ads. Referring to Republicans, he said, "There are visions, visions in people's heads of Karl Rove spending $50 million funded by people we don't know to attack candidates for reasons we're not sure of and never putting their name to it." Republicans were unpersuaded. "This bill is a partisan effort, pure and simple, drafted behind closed doors by current and former Democrat campaign committee leaders," said Sen. Mitch McConnell, the GOP Senate leader. "And it's aimed at one thing and one thing only: this bill is about protecting incumbent Democrats from criticism ahead of November." Schumer was chairman of the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee, which is responsible for maximizing the party's chances in Senate races, before stepping asi more

Resolved Question: Will the Democrat media blitz be enough to save the Democrats from losing control of the House in 2010?

The Democrats’ strategy to preserve their House majority became clearer Thursday as the party made a $28 million investment in television advertising for the final weeks of the fall campaign, a plan meant to build a defensive firewall to protect freshmen and some vulnerable longtime incumbents. Several incumbent Democrats are bracing for something they have rarely faced: serious competition. Their predicament is the latest sign of distress for their party and underlines why Republicans are confident of making big gains in November and perhaps even winning back the House. Democrats are playing defense in every corner of the country, hoping to use their fund-raising advantages to preserve their 40-seat majority in the House. The $28 million in advertising commitments represents the bulk of the $34 million in cash that the party committee had available at the end of June. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/23/us/politics/23dems.html?_r=1&ref=todayspaper more

Resolved Question: Can Republicans trick Dems into voting for an idiot?

Alvin Greene won the SC Dem primary with no campaign and no advertising. Pres advisor Axelrod calls it suspicious when an unknown black man, with no experience, suspicious funding, no qualifications could win a primary....[who is BHO?]. Dems claim this is a Republican trick. The key to Greene's victory is that he got more votes. How do liberals imagine Republicans pulled that off? Mesmerize the Democrats into voting for an idiot? If they could do that, John McCain would be president. Greene won more cleanly than BHO, don't you think?Actually, Repubs have never done this, and so far there is no evidence they have done it in this case. Now the Dems have literally taken a low IQ person and set him up to run in a Repub primary. The senate seat was for 'country wide Dodd'. Google it. more

Resolved Question: How come Fox "fair & balanced" News not reported on the White Nationalist openly running on the GOP ticket?

A New Hampshire man who has sparked controversy for spewing racist, white supremacist views has decided to use his divisive platform to campaign for a New Hampshire State House seat. Ryan J. Murdough, a 30 year-old who works with special needs children at a local youth center, is the "state chairman" of an organization called American Third Position, or A3P, a group that defines its mission as "represent[ing] the political interests of White Americans, because no one else will." (The site currently advertises a "moneybomb" for Murdough, with a fundraising goal of $2,500.) In a caustic letter titled "We must preserve our racial identity" published by the Concord Monitor at the beginning of the month, Murdough offers his beliefs on white supremacy and racial segregation: For far too long white Americans have been told that diversity is something beneficial to their existence. Statistics prove that the opposite is true. New Hampshire residents must seek to preserve their racial identity if we want future generations to have to possibility to live in such a great state. Affirmative action, illegal and legal non-white immigration, anti-white public school systems, and an anti-white media have done much damage to the United States of America and especially New Hampshire. It is time for white people in New Hampshire and across the country to take a stand. We are only 8 percent of the world's population and we need our own homeland, just like any other non-white group of people deserve their own homeland. It gets worse: "In celebration of Black History month, I am going to recognize what they do best, commit crime, get AIDS/STD's,blame whitey, cry racism." (sic), Murdough once wrote on his Twitter page, which has since been deleted (don't worry though, because according to Murdough: "I am a moderator at www.whitenews.com where I can write more lengthy posts if I choose). Murdough filed as a Republican candidate earlier this month, but the Ashland, New Hampshire man's extreme views have since led to a few state GOP members to publicly condemn him, but Murdough doesn't seem to care. "I don't really need any Republican help. I wasn't looking for it in the first place," Murdough said. "As a whole, I think they've sold white people out." more

The donkey was sent up into the sky last week by entrepreneurs hoping to attract people to their private beach. Witnesses near the beach on the Sea of Azov in the Krasnodar region said the animal had been screaming in fear. It landed in the water and was pulled onto the shore, said police. "The donkey screamed and children cried," regional police spokeswoman Larisa Tuchkova told the AFP news agency. "No-one had the brains to call police." Instead, bystanders took photos and phoned newspapers, she said. "It was put up so high into the sky that the children on the beach cried and asked their parents: 'Why did they tie a doggy to a parachute?'" Taman newspaper reported last week. "The donkey landed in an atrocious manner: it was dragged several metres along the water, after which the animal was pulled out half-alive onto the shore," the paper reported. Police began to investigate after the incident, which occurred at the coastal village of Golubitskaya, was aired on national news on Tuesday. The businessmen responsible may face criminal charges for animal cruelty, according to news agency RIA-Novosti. The stunt was condemned by the Brooke equine welfare charity, whose president is the Duchess of Cornwall. "The Brooke is appalled at the cruel and irresponsible behaviour of the people behind this 'advertising' campaign," said Kimberly Wells, an equine welfare advisor. "There was clearly no thought for this animal's welfare before they strapped it into a parachute, sending it catapulting into the sky. "This animal would have been extremely distressed, suffering immeasurable fear and pain. This should never have happened." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-10695037 more

Resolved Question: Why did Arizona Tell School Mural Artist to "lighten" Black and Latino students' faces?

A group of artists has been asked to lighten the faces of children depicted in a giant public mural at a Prescott school. The project's leader says he was ordered to lighten the skin tone after complaints about the children's ethnicity. But the school's principal says the request was only to fix shading and had nothing to do with political pressure. The "Go on Green" mural, which covers two walls outside Miller Valley Elementary School, was designed to advertise a campaign for environmentally friendly transportation. It features portraits of four children, with a Hispanic boy as the dominant figure. Principal Jeff Lane claims the change has nothing to do with race, saying "We asked them to fix the shading on the children's faces . . .We were looking at it from an artistic view." This is despite the fact that just last month, City Councilman Steve Blair publicly called for the mural to be removed, saying the most prominent figure in the painting is Black (although the student is actually Latino), reason being to create "racial controversy": "To depict the biggest picture on the building as a Black person, I would have to ask the question: Why? [...] Personally, I think it's pathetic. You have changed the ambience of that building to excite some kind of diversity power struggle that doesn't exist in Prescott, Arizona. And I'm ashamed of that." The only thing I see shameful and pathetic here is accusing a school's mural featuring actual students that go there of "race-baiting." And between Arizona's recent horror of an immigration law, the erasure of ethnic studies in AZ schools last month, and the slew of racial slurs the artists and students endured while making the mural, to be the asshat who denies racism exists here just makes his racism all the more obvious. Email Principal Jeff Lane and tell him he should be protecting his students, not abandoning them by bowing down to such hate. Steve Blair has an email too -- go to town on his ***. Why did they ask the Artist to do that? http://www.feministing.com/archives/0214…http://dailyradar.com/beltwayblips/story/arizona-school-demands-black-latino-students-faces-on/ http://blackpoliticalthought.blogspot.com/2010/06/prescott-elementary-school-principal.html http://rawstory.com/rs/2010/0604/arizona-artists-ordered-lighten-skin-tones-school-mural/ http://www.feministing.com/archives/021433.html SRRY for the broken links these should workhttp://news.yahoo.com/s/ynews/20100604/ts_ynews/ynews_ts2425 more

Resolved Question: what do you think of this plan to open a Star Trek Experience themed business?? Sorry for being so long?

Since our beloved Star Trek Experience has been bound up in red tape and politics for what seems to be a life time. I was doing some very hard thinking about the past and how our forefathers and mothers dealt with such issues as we have here with our predicament. Back in the days of the original series a serious letter writing campaign helped change the minds and hearts of the huge producers and well... the rest is history as they say. But in these precarious times we have seen letter writing campaigns not work, neither does petitions or vocal oppositions. I have seen this countless times in government and in the public sectors where the ones in “control” don't care or respect what us people in the “under class” thinks or wishes it is only about the money that they can squeeze from us! So how do we make a difference? WE the people have to step up and MAKE the difference. Here is my idea , all of us (us being every Star Trekker /Trekkie or any name we go by) chip in and WE build the Experience ourselves. Hear me out before you shoot me down with cat calls and laughter. . In these days when all the news is bad and depressing we would be a ray of sunshine, a place to go for hope for the future. Of course have fun all the way! And if done right make some money along the way. Here is my ideas 1.Every fan chips in $1000.00 Think about it if we get 1000 people to contribute $1000.00 that is 1 million dollars! A million that can buy a large building that can hold a lot of people, displays, rides etc. Of course we will not be in prominent places like the strip in Vegas but more like an empty strip mall or ware house with access to transit and car traffic. Basicly we would rebuild the Experience! But with one big difference WE would be in control of OUR future. I know this is a lot of cash for a lot of us, me included, but those who contribute will then be held as presidents meaning they will be helping make the choices in the beginning, until we set up elections and promotions then everyone is elected into office of Presidents, Admirals, Captains. Each rank responsible for different areas of the Experience. Like accounting, engineering, promotions, etc. More money contributed the higher the rank till elections occur. After set up then we disband and the elections happen with ALL ranks voting so that way everyone has a chance to be anything they want to be and not a place for the rich to buy their way in. Other words you have to work hard to get to the top and not buy your way into the position. Now if one can not afford to contribute there is lots for you to do, you can do sweat equity into the Experience, think about it this way, everyone out there is doing things for a living right? You are all electricians, plumbers, accountants, cooks, etc. So there is our construction crew, and book keeping and different labour sectors. After a set number of hours of volunteering you get your rank into the Experience depending on the number of hours, you put in, the higher the rank. So everyone can move up higher in rank the harder they work until officer rank then you have to be elected. Everyone including the ones that contributed money has to work in the Experience a set amount of hours per month every year to keep their rank active and keep there shares. And this is the beauty of the thing everyone can do something from grunt work to office work to even blogging. There is work for everyone with every physical ability. You can work anywhere in the world, all you have to do is something for the Experience to grow and prosper, for instance you can set up advertising for us on the internet and on local TV, as well as spread the word of us by word of mouth, maintain a web page for us etc etc. The first few years we would need a steady flow of cadets coming into the Experience to make this work, and at this stage of human evolution money as well. We will need to constantly have fund raising actives. As well as contributions from all our new and old members. All money will be transparent and everyone from Presidents to the lowest crew-member can see the books and help dictate where the money goes. As well as what the Experience will look like and where we will go in the future. By way of monthly meetings and online votes and polls. And every crew member that is active will have a share in the Experience depending on rank and years into the project. 2. Now here is the hardest part of all !! Getting Paramount to give us the right to use the images and insignia of Star Trek and all its parts. Basicly getting a licence to use the name!! This will be the hardest part of all, they will be hesitant and unwilling to share. As was the case in Vegas, they just kept bickering till nothing had a ghost of a chance to work. There must be lawyers that is willing to help us with the legal matters that are fans too? There must be loop holes and tricks of the trade to make more
